Homemade Lanzhou noodle.(Only available from Thursday to Sunday)
The food never disappoints—always so delicious! However, it would be nice if water glasses were refilled without needing to ask. The tables around us were also asking for water, while one of the waitstaff spent quite a while chatting with a friend who seemed to be a customer instead of taking care of the tables. None of them seemed to notice or think about refilling empty water glasses for the guests. When we left, I saw multiple tables with empty water glasses. Don’t get me wrong—the staff is super friendly, but they don’t pick up the order paper even when we place it on the side of the table with our menus, and they won’t refill the water unless you specifically ask.
Place not clean and the food was moldy. Service was meh they didn’t ask us how’s the food and they didn’t refill our water. Update: My boyfriend tried the meat and after 2-3 hours he vomited twice🙂↕️ also the green area is literally the beef itself, IT’S SO SHINY TOO i guess that’s what made it fresh🤓 very good!🫶🏼
Sophie Noodle House offers a quick and efficient dining experience. I tried the pork fried dumplings and vegetable noodles, both of which were tasty and satisfying. The dumplings had a crispy exterior and a flavorful filling, while the noodles were well-seasoned and packed with fresh vegetables. The service was speedy, making it a great spot for a quick meal, though the atmosphere leans more towards an in-and-out experience rather than a leisurely sit-down. Overall, a solid option for a fast and tasty bite.
the broth was light and had great flavour and the noodles were fresh and had a satisfying texture
The hand pulled noodles have amazing texture, definitely worth a try. They have a variety of sizes and types as well. I forgot what I got but it was good and had lots of toppings. I'm not the biggest of Szechuan spice so I wouldn't get it again next time. But the other dishes we or ordered as well as the fries boa appetizer was nice.
This place is great! A great spot for lunch or dinner, especially if you are on a budget. Hand pulled noodles are fresh and tasty, and the broth for the noodle soup is clean and unctuous. Exactly what you want at a place like this! The pork bao are exceptional. Melt in your mouth, with amazing texture and flavour. For $8 you can’t go wrong!
Went two days in a row after being blown away by the first meal. The Lanzhou noodle soup was so fragrant and refined and won me over even though I don’t usually gravitate towards noodle soups. Easily the highlight of my two meals, though, was the cabbage (pictured). I couldn’t stop eating it. One of the most memorable dishes I’ve had in recent memory.
The noodles are AMAZING! We ordered a stir fried noodle dish, the Lanzhou beef noodle soup, pan fried dumplings, and the popcorn chicken. It was all delicious. The dumplings were crispy yet chewy with a juicy pork filling. The popcorn chicken was crispy and addictive, and those noodles were sooo good both in the soup and the stir fry. Service was quick and friendly.
The barbecued pork was unevenly thick and still cold inside.
Always amazing service. I love their noodle soup but the fried noodles are amazing as well. Great portions for a very good price considering the quality. Easily one of my favorite places to eat on Kingston
Was passing by and seen this beautiful neon sign I just had to send it in to you guys! #splashofphotographykingston
I always get here to get the best noodles in town, love them so much it has become one of my favourite spots.
Great noodle place. Small and cozy.
Tasty food, good service with reasonable price
The taste is really good! No.1 in Ontario
The food is so flavourful. Nice presentation and excellent customer service. My only suggestion would be for the owners to give more attention to the cleanliness/ maintenance of the bathroom facilities. Garbage bin was full; paper product dispensers were broken; door lock was not working properly; some touch up paint is required.
Food was horrible. Order sweet and sour chicken that tasted sub par. Manchu wok or Panda Express is better. Braised beef noodle was not appetizing at all it came with just a few chunks of beef and the noodles, not even any veggies. The popcorn chicken and calamari was small and wasn t good. I don t know how this place got a 4.2 star but it s my first time and last. From an Asian perspective the food was garbage. How people say this place is cheap it was not, same as all restaurants around 15.99-18.99 per order.
Great food and value per plate!!!! Was thoroughly impressed with my meal!!! Highly recommended!!!
This restaurant is amazing for many reasons. Absolutely delicious noodes, hand made and you choose the thickness of the noodes you want. We had a noodle soup and a noodle stir dru. Omg, we have travelled to many countries and have lived in Tokyo, Toronto and these are some of the best noodles any of is have ever had!! Another reason this place is amazing, they dealt with a homeless person who came and it seemed likely he couldnt pay. They were respectful and treated him like everyone else in the restaurant. Sadly he did dine and dash. They were amazing with him. I was so impressed with this family business, i decided to pay his bill. Delicious food, kind and thoughtful staff, we had a fantastic time!! We hope to go tomorrow for lunch too!
Ok. I have been to plenty of Asian Food restaurants. This was one of the best! Great job people!
Really a great place to go when you go to Kingston
Genuinely the most delicious food, my favourite restaurant in Kingston!! The pan fried bao is heaven sent ;)
Our family of three stopped by for quick dinner on our weekend trip at Kingston. The BBQ duck itself is great. We ordered the roasted beef noodle and duck noodle, but we found both the soup base was way too salty, had to drink lots of water afterwards.
Great food. Huge portions, very reasonable prices. Fantastic service too. The young gentleman serving tonight was so sweet.
First time here and will go back soon. Excellent Orange Chicken with rice. Just wish there was a bit more of the delicious sauce. Ill ask next time.
Superb and delicious mapo tofu on rice! Made without pork on request (vegetarian) and the taste was awesome!
Best Lanzhou noodles in Kingston
Very nice place. Great Food, amazing ambience and super friendly staff and owner. Would definitley recommend!
Nothing special about this place. I was disappointed with their qualify of food--bland and lifeless. The food served is far from authentic, considering its made by a Chinese cook.
We really enjoyed our time here.
The incompetence on display at this restaurant has risen to new heights. A friend and I were forced to wait for hours for our food. We saw people come and go, without any apology or explanation why we hadn t been served.
Order 102 - Braised beef Lanzhou hand pulled noodles - 10/10 Absolutely divine, delectable, delicious, and good for the soul. Me and my boyfriend love going here for the prices and tasty soup. We leave feeling full and happy everytime we eat there. I recommend getting the soups here, specifically 102. Only downside is in the winter when customers hold the door open and that cold breeze hits you.
I crave this place every day. Price is very good for the insane quality of their food. The taste is amazing and I always want to try something different. But I usually stick with the same thing because its so good. Im a big fan of their Lanzhou soup with the 6pc pan fried Bao. Pricing is good for the apps so me and my friends usually try a bunch of different ones never had a bad meal here. Highly reccomend. Parking: Two parking garages behind the building. Both paid. If ones full the other is usually decently full or close for lunch times. Both have a single parking ticket machine, or though HONK. Paid street parking out front
The noodles were good, the flavor was mild and light. The ingredients in the soup were tasty but could have tasted more fresh. The soup could be elevated with more veggies in the soup. Overall it was filling and tasty.
Authentic noodle soups freshly made to order. Service was quick, and the prices are reasonable. I am looking forward to lunch here again soon!
Recently visited Sophie s noodle house and was really disappointed with the food this time, seems like they just pump out too many take out orders to not put enough care into the food. The real reason I m writing this review is the service. First and fore most the isn t any staff to help you. They have two (at the time we were there which was a Saturday at dinner time) people running the front of the house and one cook. They focused more on the take out meals then the actual restaurant. We got in got seated and had to flag down a server just to get them to remember to give us drinks and cutlery. You also had to write down what you wanted on a sticky note and they forgot one of our meals even tho it was their system! When we told them about that the cook just stared us down like we were the problem. Either hire more staff, switch to take out only, or remove tables because you guys cannot keep up. Our total wait time was an hour and half Clearly a business that only cares about money. There are so many other options for food in kingston don t bother with this place.
Food was good, warm, and the portions are big - had to take the rest of my meal home. I got a rice noodle soup and it was supposed to be spicy but it wasnt but its okay. It still tasted pretty good and I just added some chili. The crispy pork was delicious, we also got pan fried dumplings which was good. The boiled dumplings in chili oil tasted bland. My friends got the creme brulée for dessert and they said it was good. Location is good when you are downtown especially since its close to bus stops. Ambience was cozy, the store itself isnt super huge and sometimes theres no seating because its packed :)
Excellent place to grab a soup or small dish for Asian style food. I ordered the Wonton Soup with a side of rice for takeout. The only negative part was the size of the soup, in a very small container, seemed like it should be double the size for a takeout dish. Total cost was $14 plus tax and rice. Was disappointed when I got to work only to see such a small plastic container and I thought it came with shrimp but it did not have that either. Parking down there is a pain as usual for Downtown Kingston.
Food was surprisingly good although receiving my bbq duck wrapped up seemed kind of strange. Service was somewhat slow the noodle soup often comes quicker than any other dishes (including appetizers). For atmosphere I must say the design is really nice and adds great atmosphere.
Nice meal. Id go back.
Good soup
I ordered the duck pulled noodles and they were delicious! I ordered the smaller portion and it was still such a large serving. I left full and have lots of leftovers :) Great service too!
Paid $9 for pork buns. These are not pork buns.
Creme brulee
We had a reservation for 6:30pm on Saturday, January 20th. The restaurant was busy but calmed down within 10-15 min. We sat for 30 min until they took our order we had to ask them for drinks of water and our utensils!! We had to wait for 50 min until we got our food, which was delivered staggered and not delivered at the same time. They ended up forgetting one of our dishes the food was mediocre at best with minimal flavour. Probably will not be back.
The Chinese noodles here have the most authentic taste in Kingston.
Food and service were awful. I had the vegetable noodle soup and tofu with spiced salt as a side. The server refused to help in choosing a vegetarian dish, the vegetables in the soup were off or frozen and recently thawed, the tofu was stingy and poorly cooked/tasted reheated. My wife had roast duck with rice. The duck was near inedible. Extremely small portion and for $20, left us feeling ripped off. My mother in laws food was overly salty (shredded pork stir fry) with miserly portions for the price ($19). Awful service, the waitress didn t do anything other than throw menus on the table and fetch us water. Never asked about food, didn t offer to help with items. I ve never left 0 tip before but needed to do so today to make a point. I wanted to talk to the server about it but she seemed so disinterested, there was probably no point. Too bad. We were really looking forward to some nice Chinese noodle soup dishes in Kingston but this ain t it.
Poor service, low quality, small portion food. I can t recommend to anyone, very disappointed.
Delicious (and cheap!) food with surprising depth of flavor and big portions. Noodles have a wonderful texture, while the pan-fried dumplings were more delicate and subtly flavoured than many other restaurants. Ambiance is pleasant and simple, and service is fast.
I will be going back for more. Excellent place to go for great food.
Really lovely dumplings in chilli oil and the deep fried shrimp was phenomenal. The braised pork special was nice, but a bit dry. Still would come back just for the shrimp!
Great lunch day tripping or anytime! Delicious!
Very good! Crispy chicken spring rolls were tasty, as was the Cantonese fried rice and soup broth! Would come back for sure.
Noodles are not hand-pulled as advertised! I placed an order for hand-pulled beef noodles but was disappointed to taste mushy, machine-made noodles that are quite like the packaged ones you get from the frozen aisle at Chinese supermarkets. The sliced meat also tasted not fresh a strange musty flavor. Definitely not a good representation of Chinese beef noodles.
Delicious soup! Quick to come out and so lovely I had the braised beef noodle soup and was not disappointed For anyone who loves Asian cuisine and especially noodles this is a must stop!
It was a nice little place, will probably be returning, prices are respectable and portions are good. Its overall good but nothing special that separates it
Can be hit and miss but when its good its great! I like it. One stur fry will easily feed two people.
The Braised Beef Noodle Soup was 10/10, dumplings were super good too!!
This was one of the best meals Ive had in my life 10/10
Love the traditional noodles! It tastes light and delicious. Definitely an authentic flavor I had in China.
Authentic taste, sufficient quantity, and good price
Rubbish.
Delicious place to eat! The Lanzhou soup was absolutely delightful. Will definitely return.
The food is to die for at this restaurant the soup is so delicious I highly recommend other people, and Families to go there
Very good noodle soups. Small portion is more than enough.
recommend,
Boss is very kind person Highly recommended Food
Portions were small compared to price. Amount of meat and vegetables was minimal compared to the amount of rice and noodles you get. (Dishes were 90% rice or noodles.)
I took my son and his service dog to the restaurant and politely explained that we had a service dog who would wait for the corner seat. The waiter said my service dog was not allowed in the restaurant either. I said it was the law, but she kept saying no. I didnt want to argue with her anymore, so I turned around and left. I took my son and his service dog to the restaurant and politely explained that we had a service dog that would wait for the corner table. We had a great meal there.
We went for lunch, service was quick, super hot noodle dishes and sides. Delicious!
I have been living in Kingston for a few years now, always looking for good food, and this place has consistently been my go-to. The food is fresh, delectable, good quality, and the serving sizes are very large. They have a great ordering system where you write down what you want with the menu as a numbered guide, and the server takes it from you when youre ready. Make sure you check their hours, but do not let this place pass you by. The pan-fried dumplings are my favourite!
First time in Kingston, we were looking for a quiet place to stay and what a nice surprise Sophie s Noodle House was. Everything was perfect Exceptional cuisine in ample quantity Very friendly waitress Lets stay super clean A great culinary experience
Very crowded with the University crowd which I thought was a great sign. Great quick service. Had the Duck noodle soup, seafood noodle soup and shrimp wonton. Sizes are massive!! Noodles are long and fresh and delicious. We ve had better broth but the seafood, duck and wontons were all really tasty. Large portioning. If you re Cilantro phobic though, be sure to request none as the dishes were swimming in it. Great deal, clean restaurant and lots of choices. We d go back for sure.
Excellent attention, the waitress is very friendly
This place has no right making foods that are so delicious highly recommended to anyone who enjoys Asian food
Incredible food and professional, kind staff.
I liked the food) There was not enough service, when asked for advice on the menu, the waitress immediately ran away and did not return. We had to go to the cashier ourselves with questions.
Sophies does false advertising: this restaurant clearly advertises authentic hand-pulled noodles and that is definitely not what they serve. They just serve regular spaghetti noodles that you can find at any grocery store. In addition, the vegetable stir fried noodles (very, very salty) had only cabbage and onion which shows that the kitchen is focused on serving the lowest quality version of the dishes they sell. In addition, its not cheap--we recently went to a real hand-pulled noodle restaurant in downtown Toronto and their prices were lower. Until this restaurant significantly changes, I would not recommend it.
All homemade noodles
Being ignored completely for 15 minutes straight and we decided to make some signals that we already finished writing our order down but not helping. Walked straight out of door immediately.
Great spot for some lanzhou noodles! If you are craving soup and noodles this is place to go Food : 5/5
OMG Sophies noodle house is amazing. The food there is perfect. The noodles have an amazing texture and the staff is so friendly. The place is clean and its really nice. This is a hidden gem in Kingston. If your visiting or live in Kingston its a must try.
First of all, the authentic Lamian Noodles store there is a most special and famous choice of noodles called mo xi , please note that Sophie doesnt. You have 3ppl who serve the outfield; you have special chef in the back at the same time. And I also work in another restaurant. Our restaurant only hire one employ to take care of the guests in front, and there are more tables. Sophie s took us at least 15 minutes to order food and at least 10 minutes to check out. We were standing there like a fool and your waitress saw us and just ignored. We ordered four dishes, and we didnt get the fourth dish until we finished eating and were full. Also the noodles are overcooked. You shouldnt never do this when you have enough employees.
Sophie s Noodle House 8/10 Pictured: - 103: BBQ duck Lanzhou noodles - 102: braised beef Lanzhou noodles Look no further for a delicious bowl of noodle soup! Sophie s noodle house in Princess St in downtown Kingston offers a large variety of Chinese food including noodle soups, rice dishes soups, dumplings and much more! For the noodle soup, you can select the type of noodle you want from a few options. The both is flavourful and will warm you up on a cold day. **Follow @smfoodd on Instagram for more!!
I had takeout. They don t bother putting salt in the beef rice noodle. No flavor, just oil
Authenic noodle with huge portion sizes!
Ordered the stir-fried noodles with beef (108?). Agree with other comments that the noodles were very salty and lacking in variety of vegetables. Noodles were served with only cabbage and onions, and very little beef.
If you are in the mood for noodle dishes, this is the place to go, Vegetarian options: My wife is a vegetarian, the broth is beef, she had a rice dish and said it was great Food : 5/5 |
Tried Sophie s Noodles for the first time on New Year s Eve. Loved the fried calamari and look forward to enjoying the leftover noodles for lunch tomorrow! Thank you for such a quick preparation and delivery, especially on such a busy night when other restaurants were booked solid! Will be back!
Absolutely delicious. The noodles tasted so fresh and the soup was amazing. My new go to spot!!
I really liked it. Delicious food, clean restaurant, attentive staff.
I ordered the Lanzhou beef tendon noodles, and the first few bites were delicious. However buyer be warned, the tendon must have been soaked in brine or heavily salted because each tendon chunk was very very salty. I couldnt stomach the salt and I ended up leaving quite a bit over; unfortunetly even the soup, which was delicious, became too salty for my taste. The noodles were of high quality and had good chew, being assumedly hand-pulled. The dumplings in chili oil were alright, but I definitely could have forgone them had I known how salty the meal was going to be. Will have to try maybe other types of meat instead of the tendon, if I come back.
Great food. Good value. Lots of variety.
Great hand pulled noodles!
Amazing food!!
Sophies Noodle House is my go-to restaurant in Kingston, with consistently delicious food.
The ambience is nice, however, they are either understaffed or have staff in training. Two people had to take our order because the first one wasn t completely sure about some of the items. Then they forgot to prepare 1 of 3 items. Everyone s food came at different times, including for example, the mixed vegetable rice of one or the orders but not the accompanying curry which was part of the combo. This meant that the rice was cold by the time the curry arrived, and that too after the server was reminded. The veggie noodle stir fry, which they forgot to prepare, was then rushed into order after the server was told they did not bring it out. The dish that arrived was missing 2 of the 4 veggies listed on the menu. When we asked the server about it they said they didn t update the menu and only in season veggies were included the missing out of season veggies were included in the other two dishes on the table so go figure. It s sad that they couldn t just be honest and say they rushed it and didn t do the job right. Probably won t be coming back here again.
Great food and a nice atmosphere.
Noodles and pan fried dumplings were excellent
Amazing Chinese food , brings you back !
Fabulous food and friendly service
Dont get tired of coming here.
Overly salty mapa tofu dish and not spicy even though I ordered the spicy. Friends enjoyed the noodles though.
The foods are awesome here
Very authentic Lanzhou, made with one clear, two white, three red, four green and five yellow. The taste is excellent and the texture is chewy. Highly recommend to come
Bad Food and Dirty Restaurant Stopped for lunch Friday June 10th 2022 We chose this restaurant because of Googles rating 4.3 Very disappointing. Table was sticky, ...as was the (unmarked) condiment containers that were dropped on the table. Washroom was filthy, ...as well as the back hallway that had boxes of food containers sitting on the dirty floor. My friend first ordered the Beef hand pulled noodle bowl but waitress said it is spicy (doesnt say on menu) She left us for a long time then came back to take the order again. He asked for the fried Chicken noodles. She said that could be spicy too but she would get the spices on the side. I ordered the pork noodles and we were to share an order of dumplings for an appetizer. The chicken soup came with a bowl of flavorful broth and overcooked spaghetti type noodles, with a side of a piece of fried chicken fillet? ($14.99) Mine was a bowl of broth with overcooked noodles and bland slices of (boiled??) pork on top. ($14.99) The appetizer of dumplings came when we were 1/2 done the soup. They were 6 pcs of cigar shaped doughy messes that had very little taste and no dipping sauce. ($7.99) Absolutely nothing we had was good, ... or fresh tasting. The restaurant had a few tables when we got there but they had all been served. Seems they cater to take out and do not care at all about the people in the restaurant. There was only one server and I know she was busy, ...but not helpful at all.
Service was good but with the exception of the boiled dumplings in chilli oil, everything else was bland. The pan fried dumplings tasted simply like wet pork: no cabbage, no green onions, no garlic, no dipping sauce... No flavour. The pork in the BBQ pork noodle soup was flavourless and the noodles were overcooked. Im not outright ruling this place out as some of the other dishes that were brought out to other tables looked quite appetizing. However, its hard for me to recommend them for their claim-to-fame: their noodle soup dishes.
Absolutely tasty
Really enjoyed sitting out on the patio enjoying a bowl of noodles. The BBQ pork was fantastic and the boiled dumplings in chili sauce was outstanding!
Noodles arent hand-pulled, bland taste, but decent portions.
definitely not hand pulled noodles...more loke dried ramen bought from store. the soup base taste like powder and not real soup broth. dunno if they are saving money because of lockdown. Update in 2022: food is much better now. It s real noodles now four stars.
We were politely greeted by the hostess/server who was masked. Sanitizer at the door. I had the Hot and Sour Noodle Soup and Shredded Pigs Ear in Chili Sauce. My son had Fried Pork on Rice. Everything was delicious and served in a timely manner. The noodles were a bit soft for my preference but still really good. This is Chinese food. The dining area is clean, the tables we ate at rested solidly on the floor and the lighting is mostly natural light from the large storefront window. A very enjoyable dining experience and I highly recommend this restaurant.
We stopped here on our way back to Ottawa and loved the soups! Great selection of authentic and fresh dishes.
Noodles were great, good texture. Great value. Would come again if I were to step foot in Kingston ever again.
Food was great and service was good. Only exception was that it was little pricy especially for it being mostly noodles and broth.
The noodles taste pretty good, but there is no difference in the size between the large bowl and the regular bowl. It is not recommended to order the large bowl. The side dishes were a bit unsatisfactory. The shrimps were wrapped in a thicker coating than the shrimps, and the shrimp meat was almost impossible to eat. It is recommended to avoid the side dishes and just order a bowl of noodles. The overall price is a little expensive.
Braised beef hand pulled noodle is not excellent but price is reasonable for the large portion. Steamed chicken with chilly sauce is pricey for the portion and flavor was just ok, and it has many bones
Fresh and delicious meals. Friendly, polite, and fast staff. Bathrooms are nice and clean. Would definitely recommend.
Great pho and very tasty soup dumplings! This is my second time going here and its very nice, the staff are friendly and the location is right downtown.
Stopped in for appetizers. Tasted so good. Will be back for dinner. Worth trying out
Best noodles!!! Totally traditional Lanzhou style noodles. thank you
After waiting for 30 minutes, the meal was still not served. Does it take 30 minutes for the Roujiamo to be ready?
Sophies noodle house is a newer restaurant in Kingston that serves authentic Lanzhou noodles. Although the quality of the service has somewhat declined since it opened, the food remains delicious and reasonably priced. Get large sized portions for noodles. They are double the size and good for two meals.
Amazing food and service. All the food had really nuanced flavours. One of the most authentic northern Chinese culinary experiences I ve had outside China. Recommend the hand pulled noodles, pan fried potatoes, and salt & pepper tofu.
Good comfort food with affordable prices. We had a large portion of the BBQ duck noodle and some dumplings. It was good. The service speed was okay, since we weren t in a rush.
If you want to get real ramen noodle, not here any more. They used to homemade ramen, but recently I had two visits, noodle made by machine, tasted different. Favor still the same. I want to give 5, but it is not homemade ( In the brand, they mention hand pulled).
Handmade noodles... Yum... Follow @TheYGKFoodie
Noodles are good. Beef was slightly overcooked. The potato appetizer is just undercooked crinkle cut fries with some seasoning.
Very good authentic Sichuan lanzhou hand pulled noodles, plus a ton of extra tasty dishes. Very veggie friendly too!
Go there....Go there...Go there...This is our first visit to Kingston on Valentines day...If you craving for awesome Chinese food this is the place..we ordered stir fry hand pulled noodles , dumplings, spicy beef rice and crispy pork...dumplings can be improved but rest everything was great...portions are large and nice...definitely a 5 star place
Foods good and freshly prepare, we love it. Will go again for sure.
Oh my goodness. One of the most DELICIOUS noodle dishes I have ever had. Authentic hand-pulled noodles with incredible broth. Need I say more?!
Poor customer service
One gem in Kingston, all food is made at the moment which is great! Noodles are real hand pull made, no like other restaurants in town that are instant noodles. All plates are serve in big portions, even the small is what you can find in other restaurants as a large size. Real flavor, real food! You have to visit this place.
The dishes were not authentic, and it wasn t very good. A lot of MSG. Not worth it
I had the braised beef noodle bowl, and it was amazing! I will definitely come back to try the other dishes!
This is a fun restaurant experience. The noodles are delicious as are the dumplings. Great value and fast service.
I tried Sophies for the first time a few weeks ago, so yummy! Delicious noodles, delicious broth, the creme brulee was a tasty dessert. Great meal and excited to try a new dish next time!
Great noodles,
Had take out traditional beef noodle soup and BBQ duck noodle soup today for picnic, had hard time to keep the soup warm enough before we found the palace to sit and eat. But they are still so delicious . Very friendly staff when I call to order and very good noodle. Hope to eat in there soon .
Delicious food and good prices. Nice addition to downtown Kingstons restaurant scene.
The food is absolutely incredible. Highly recommended!
Delicious new restaurant downtown. Reasonably priced and very helpful when ordering. Try them out today!
Probably the best food I ve had in Kingston!
Food is exceptional. Never had to wait longer than 15 minutes. It is authentic and the family who owns and operates the place are lovely and very conversational.
Good portion and yum yum yum! Very authentic Chinese pulled noodles.
Wonderful noodles. My favourite: seafood.
Really enjoyed their fresh hand pulled noodles. Great portion sizes and everything tasted amazing. It was great that they had vegetarian options too!
Awesome once again
Amazing food! Taiwanese chicken is a must try- of course. The vegetable fried rice was incredible! I recommend the veggie meal for 1!
Amazing food, had a small bowl of BBQ duck with homemade noodles. Absolutely amazing, Also had dumplings in chili sauce. Loved it. Great staff. And was fantastic to see the cook make the noodles. If Im ever back in the city I will return. So full and so happy .
Just tried Sophies for the first time today and I loved it. I ordered the BBQ Pork noodles for take away. The broth was packaged separately from the pork and greens so they stayed fresh and crisp during transport- much appreciated. Altogether a wonderful, delicious meal! Will definitely be coming back for more.
We recently (July 2021) visited the City of Kingston and ordered two large bowls of Hand-pulled noodles (menu item 101 - Traditional Lanzhou Beef Hand-Pulled Noodle ( )) and other appetizers at this place. As we had eaten Hand-pulled noodles at other places in the past, we know there are different choices on thickness (e.g. thin, medium and thick). However, we were not given the choices while placing the order. When we received the noodles and tasted, we were very disappointed. First, all noodles had the exactly same diameter and smooth surface which did not appear they were HAND-PULLED! They were like machined or cooked from prepared noodles. Second, it was salty. I think this is one of the characters of the majority of Chinese food. Third, the quantity was much less compared with other restaurants that we had been to in Toronto. Their bowls were super large though. When we went inside to pay our bill, we observed that there were no one PULLING the noodles. Instead, there was an elder staff making the noodles using a NOODLE-MAKING machine (we think) in the kitchen! All their noodles were actually squeezed by a machine, which explained why their noodles were identical in diameter and surface smoothness. Ironically, there was a TV in the restaurant repeatedly playing a video demonstrating how to make Hand-pulled noodles. In the video, the demonstrator was making real Hand-pulled noodles though. From our recent experience (July 2021) and pictures posted by other customers in the past, we think that the restaurant is selling FAKE HAND-PULLED noodles. This is misleading. It is also damaging the reputation of those true hand-pulled noodle restaurants in Canada. How could the restaurant brazenly call their noodles HAND-PULLED if they are actually selling MACHINE-SQUEEZED or similar method-made noodles? There are significant differences in taste and prices. For this reason, we are giving the restaurant one (lowest) star and hope the restaurant will change the names of their noodles on their menus and website accordingly (i.e. not Hand-pulled).
Friendly service, good selection of menu. Extremely good flavored , well prepared meals, reasonable pricing.
The good: salt pepper squid is worth a visit. Areas of improvement: we asked for shrimp wonton soup and got pork. The problem: what we got was a pork wonton and we were told there were shrimps. The person who ordered does not eat meat and the person was invited to instead order veggie spring rolls for lunch. :/ Those spring rolls arrived at our table after everyone else finished eating. How long could it take for 2 spring rolls? The bbq duck and duck soup were sub-optimal. The lemon shrimp dish was full of small orange rind, which is not pleasant to eat. I had expected a lemon grass infused dish. Something delicate.
Definitely try their delicious hand pulled noodles dishes.
Noodle was made in the restaurant - not hand-pulled but rather made using a machine. Texture obviously not as good as real hand-pulled ones. Had the beef noodle soup - portion was good, beef tender and tasty. Soup was too salty for my taste and probably loaded with MSG
Service was ok but food was too overly salty
Highly recommended: Lanzhou pulled noodles. Chilli sauce could be spicier, but that s probably catering to local tastes. Chef can be seen doing his work in an open kitchen which really helps the vibe. Recommended and will return.
Great food, definitely the greatest Asian noodle in Kingston!
Wait was long. 20 minutes for a bowl of noodle. Portion is very small for large. It can be done in 5 minutes.
Got some braised beef hand pull noodles. Thought it would have been too warm to eat outside but it was just perfect. The broth was so flavorful and the noodles were perfect. Wished I ordered the large. Will definitely go back next time we re in town. Sorry no photos. We were too hungry.
Cheap, around 10 dollars for the signature noodles, lighter on taste but is really nice. Decently quiet on busy hours.
I grew up in Kingston at a time when Chinese food meant chicken balls and egg rolls. It was a real surprise when I discovered more authentic dishes in Toronto. What a difference. Sophies is all that. They serve parts of the chicken youll never find in a food court, and have a broad array of noodle and rice dishes perfectly cooked and presented. Wonderful ambiance and friendly staff. Ill be back on my next visit.
Great food
Would absolutely come by again when Im in town! Staff were helpful and kind, and food came relatively quick after ordering. Taste came with waves of cultural memories from home, definitely recommend for a rainy day.
Best hand pulled noodles in town!
Amazing meals, really good Chinese style food. Noodles, rices and all kings of Chinese food!!
the waiters are so nice and friendly, the food is amazing. I believe Ill come back soon!
Always buying their braised beef noodles! Delicious fresh food, great price, and even better on a winter day
The food is absolutely delicious and the servings are very generous. Obviously the traditional lanzhou beef hand-pulled noodle soup is a must. The boiled dumplings in chili oil and the chicken spring rolls were amazing. Please go and support this fabulous restaurant. You wont be disappointed.
Fake Lanzhou beef noodle.
Dreadful. We waited,we waited,we waited we waited, and after 40 minutes someone came to take our order. We had questions and she didnt know anything about the menu. We waited, we waited, we waited and we noticed that we werent the only people in the restaurant waving our arms frantically around trying to get the attention of the two servers, who are were preoccupied with the takeaway orders and had forgotten about the people in the restaurant. The food finally came. It was okay I guess. The broth was nice. But I questioned whether the noodles were hand stretched as I saw someone from where I was sitting using an extruder. I honestly dont really care that much if they were hand stretched or not but it is misleading to advertise that they are when they are not. The soup is plain The dumplings were awful. Cold, and flavourless.
Fake hand made noodles with poor quality chilli oil.
Food was good with large portion sizes for the soup noodle bowls. The broth was too salty and the side was overdone but could have just been the day. Overall a nice place to go.
Ordered a large bowl of the Traditional Hand-Pulled Noodles. It doesnt appear to be hand-pulled, and the taste was average with nothing special. In addition, the portion sizes are quite small for the price. That large bowl cost like $16 for almost nothing.
