What a wonderful experience at Union Kitchen! The absolute BEST spicy Vodka penne I ve EVER had (even surpassing New York s Carbone!) and the service was exceptional. Bravo!

This meal was possibly the worst food weve had in Kingston and we have lived here for over 7 years. The menu has changed from a rather nice mix of options to pizza and pasta and a few other limited options. Unfortunately we did not look at the menu before we went and as my wife is unable to eat dairy there were no options on the menu. In addition to this our food came out burnt and we had to send two of the items back. The waiter even commented that this happens about 50% of the time. We sent back the bread and cheese this was burnt and the ricotta dip was curdled and unpleasant. In addition to this we ordered one of the shareable plates, although Im not entirely sure how you meant to share as it was one portion of sausages and peppers, and again this was cooked to a charcoal consistency. The fact they were willing to send this out in the first place blows our minds. We were promised a replacement for the sausages but the waiter then came out with a plate of Bolognese saying that it would take too long. This restaurant is currently understaffed, the food is over seasoned and the chef is careless to the point of embarrassment Dietary restrictions: No options for those with lactose intolerance Parking: Downtown restaurant

This wasn t our first time at Union but it was the first since they revamped the menu. Our server was awesome! Very polite, knowledgeable and attentive. The food was absolutely incredible. We started with the Carpaccio, which was full of flavour! I then had the Scampi and my gf had the Bolognese, both of which were delicious. I would highly recommend this place, again!

We were a larger walk in party on a Sunday. We waited while they got the table set up, and they knew it was 4 adults, 4 kids. Menus werent given until after we got the kids and everyone seated, to find out that they no longer offer brunch on Sundays. Its a new menu of pizza and pasta. By this time, kids are settled and hungry so we proceed to ask for a kids menu to order from, which they didnt have. We should have left then and there. The pizzas were small portions and lackluster. Two party members were never asked for their drink options.

Everything was good about the restaurant EXCEPT for the FOOD! Like cmon! I ordered the Avacado Toast as part of their brunch menu expecting a decent size brunch for the $20 price BUT I was seriously disappointed. I only got a SINGLE slice of bread with some avacado and cheese etc., definitely not worth the price! My friends ordered other plates and their portion sizes were reasonable for the same price but I was seriously mislead. Not happy, ruined by Sunday afternoon.

Marvelous experience tonight at Union. Cocktails were amazing and the smash burger I had with fries was incredible. The best fries I have ever had and one of the best burgers I ever had. Waiter was very personably and connected well with our table. I highly recommend you check Union out.

I had the Lox for lunch and have never left a restaurant hungry until now. The cream cheese was thin, the lox was very scant and the red onion was very thin. It took a while for the server to get to me but there was only one young lady working (that I could see) who was lovely and pleasant. I just feel that there should have been more on my plate without having to pay more. Just my opinion, but maybe all the restaurants are like this now....

EDIT EFFECTIVE MAY 2024 - We came back to try Union again and our experience was much better this time! Our server was fantastic and very friendly. We got an assortment of food with our favourite being the macaroni and cheese. I got the peach margarita again and it was perfection. I would highly recommend the Union for their cocktails alone. My partner and I dream about the macaroni and cheese though because it was that good. PREVIOUS REVIEW (Spring 2023): My partner had been wanting to go to the Union for a very long time because he had an excellent experience in Spring 2023. I ordered a peach margarita which was absolutely amazing. Beautiful presentation and excellent taste. He ordered the smash burger (which he enjoyed but mentioned it wasnt nearly as good as before) and I ordered the cream based mussels. I was super disappointed... I love mussels but these were room temperature when I got them, extremely watery sauce with little flavour, every bite of mussel had an off putting crunch, and some of the mussels tasted really off (like a swampy taste). Unfortunately, our server never checked on us while we were eating and I hate making a fuss so I just paid for them. I barely finished the dish so Im surprised she didnt question it (I was in the washroom when she came to clear our plates). We ordered fries with our mains, however, had to ask for aoili (which as per the menu is supposed to come with the fries I believe). We did order dessert which was much better. My partner ordered their chocolate cheesecake which was amazing! Dark chocolate with what appeared to be flaky salt on top. Absolutely amazing. I had the creme brulee which was very tasty. A little sweet for my taste but thats just a personal preference. I would highly recommend either with a nice bitter espresso. We ordered coffee (which was room temperature and she didnt bring cream for) and a latte which was very tasty. Overall I was a little disappointed. Id definitely go back for the dessert and cocktails though. Edit - I have since been in contact with the restaurant staff and they have been amazing! We look forward to trying The Union again!

Great food and service

First time at Union. Friendly service, although a bit slow, it wasnt that busy for 1 pm on a Friday. My wife wanted the Union Breakfast and I ordered the Lox. Waitress comes back a few minutes later that the breakfast isnt available because we ran out of butter. Really! The Lox was delicious, however my wife didnt fancy anything else on the menu. Some items are a bit pricy at first but when you see the plates arriving for other patrons, you wont be disappointed. Some really cool art work inside.

Amazing bar. Brunch is awesome. Lovely staff and service. The wall art is not ideal unless Yosemite Sam post bank robbery is your thing.

Attended a birthday dinner here with friends and I had a blast. The waiter was friendly and quick to assist us with any requests. I ordered the Tuna Poke Bowl with PEI Mussels on the side and a Pink Motel to drink. I found the Tuna Poke Bowl a bit spicy (I have a low spice tolerance), but it tasted really good. The mussels however were delicious, but I found a lot of empty shells on my plate. Only reason why I rated 4 rather than 5 stars.

My wife and I had a great meal this evening at the Union.. Service was excellent as was the food. The atmosphere is always lively everything was spot on. Recommend the steak!

Went for brunch on a Sunday morning...possibly best Eggs Benedict Ive ever had! Cant wait to go back!

My favourite bar in town

Food was good, but the drinks were a standout. Kamyrn really made our experience a memorable one. She s was incredibly patience, and talked to us about different activities/events going on in the Kingston area this winter! The staff here is friendly and attentive, overall a great time.

We had a quick lunch stop at Union and I feel in love with the food. The wagyu burger was phenomenal, the fries were perfectly crispy and the Mac and cheese was great. I was very happy with how quick our meals came and how good everything tasted. It was a comfortable space but the new painting were a little creepy looking. just not my style but fun

We came into here for shelter, on cold winters eve. We were hoping for yummy cocktails and good company. We were met with fear & discomfort. The walls are plastered with, what, at first look, are grotesque paintings, and on second thought are just reflections of how late stage capitalism manifests itself inside of all of us.

This place has truly gone downhill over the last year or so. The food has remained consistently okay (probably less quality now), but the service and personality of the staff have declined dramatically. There was a time when this was the go-to spot for my wife and me, and we loved to host our friends here constantly. Sadly we have decided to move on. The staff now are not remotely comparable to the staff they had a year or so back. We used to enjoy sitting at the bar, but now the bartenders don t even acknowledge your existence or care to engage. For the past two summers, my wife and I enjoyed oysters and wine at the bar with the outgoing bar staff, who were knowledgeable and attentive. We would rave about the outstanding service. We used to walk past and make a decision to go in for a drink or a bite just based solely on the staff we saw working the bar. Our favourite bartenders were Connor and Kai (sp?), who would remember our drinks of choice, and our names and just genuinely cared. We sadly have not seen them in a very long time. The manager, whose name escapes me, a young brunette, has been nothing short of unhelpful when we have had issues or feedback. Shows no interest in listening or rectifying a poor experience. Overall, if you are looking to feel welcomed at a local joint, this is not the place. Sad, but true.

Visited 3rd of December, 2022. My friends and I sat at the bar. The holiday seasonal cocktails were delicious: I had the Chai Martini and a second one called something like Lemon Meringue , I believe. I also had two of each of their four different market price oysters. Our bartenders were swamped but appeared so chill, which kept us at ease and left us in cool admiration of their skills. Thank you Union for ensuring our time in Kingston was memorable for all the right reasons!

Drinks were excellent and the breakfast was good too. The server was very pleasant and knowledgeable. I will definitely be back!

A bit pricey (on par with red lobster) not much selection but what they have is delicious, the wait-staff are all friendly too

Great drink menu with tons of different options to try!

Was really looking forward to this spot but unfortunately had a poor experience. Came for a Sunday brunch which is obviously a busy time, but our experience couldnt be excused to business alone. Wait time for 3 breakfast dishes was 50 minutes. When we asked our server for an update, we were met with hostility and attitude from the waitress, who said oh nobody told you? our kitchen is backed up and itll be another 20 minutes, this is normal for a Sunday morning. That is totally fine if this is what we can expect, but there was no need for the way she spoke to us and the attitude she had. A table of three next to us who sat down 15 minutes after us got their food before us. Once our food finally arrived, my eggs were cooked hard (asked for over easy) and my friends eggs were lightly poached with a lot of runny egg white (asked for poached soft). We decided at this point to speak to a manager but didnt want to send the plates back as we already waited so long for the food. Manager was very nice and reasonable and provided some discounts on our meals which we appreciated. Also, not exactly sure if related but my friends and I all experienced 2-3 days of sickness after this meal and it was the only thing we ate that day so we think its related. We had vomiting, fatigue, weakness, aches and fever :( TLDR: Overall nice, busy atmosphere but with the issues we had, I wouldnt recommend. Manager was helpful and kind but the reality is we could have had a better breakfast experience at an old diner for half the price.

The manager was walking around chewing gum like a horse and then eating food off of other peoples plate. My bartender was awesome but watching her was disgusting.

Have been a few times for mostly dinner but lunch too. Fish tacos are very good but very messy (fair warning for those out on a date!). Mussels were delicious. Friends rave about the gnocchi and the Union salad. I finally tried the Wagyu burger and the meat was incredible, the bun wax perfect, toppings amazing (had the goat). A friend had the steak frites and said the fries were soggy because the steak is served on top. There should be something on the menu for everyone but check it online if you re not sure. The restaurant is mostly very dark, but we love the front window booth for a group as it s bright and cozy. Service is always friendly and helpful with the menu but sometimes lacking on the table clearing (important with a big group, several courses and beverages). We will be back.

Good vibe, great staff. Great a little tight a crowded but overall good experience. Im a wing guy and I wanted to try their lightning wings. My wings was like a charred breading like someone intensionally burned them. Not sure if this is the intent of the dish but I expected better for the price.

We recently stopped in for an afternoon cocktail. The atmosphere was very welcoming and made our afternoon far more enjoyable. Their menu is on the smaller side but the food coming out looked good. Their cocktail and drink menu had a good variety of drinks to suit just about any taste.

Server, Eilash (ay-lish), was very welcoming social talkative informative and suggestive of various items on the menu. Most enjoyable server ive had at union since ive been here. Zucchini app is highly suggested, great price for such a tasty snack!! Aperol spritz as well as chai martini and O&C IPA were all very tasty :) Very nice experience at Union today <3

Came for the Wagyu Smash Burger and was disappointed. Not an authentic smash burger yet the most expensive smash burger Ive ever paid for. Was too thick and messy.

This place was great. We were stopping in visiting family on the way home and would definitely recommend this place. The food was great and the atmosphere is amazing. Will be coming back next time we visit Kingston.

A friend and I went for lunch . We chose to sit on the outside patio. When entered inside it was very dark and dated. The wait staff were friendly and timely. The food selection I found very limited. I had the Korean BBQ Chicken Sandwich and House Salad. The salad was good the sandwich spicy .

My wife and I had an absolutely fantastic lunch here today. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her fish tacos, and I was beyond impressed with the smash burger! Highly recommended

My mother and I went for the mussel special on Wednesday (pint and mussels, really good deal). This was the best meal Ive had in Kingston. Great service, great beer and an incredible atmosphere. Ally the manager was very welcoming. 5/5 would recommend.

The union offers an elevated dine in experience. The food tasted great and had a befitting presentation. The only thing that I was not pleased with was the time it took to receive our drinks. It was a Friday night and we had a table of 8 so I understand that I might take a little longer but it took well over 30 min to receive 6 drinks.

After spending years on my must try list, I finally visited Union with my mother last night and had a phenomenal time. Eilish (my waitress) was the sweetest person ever, while giving knowledgable insight and recommendations she knew everything. Union surpassed my expectations, and is definitely worth a visit Ill be back soon!

Service was great and the artwork on the walls is certainly unique. We didnt try the cocktails which are their claim to fame. The food however was only alright for the price. $12 for a kids grilled cheese and fries is a bit ridiculous and the two Asian inspired dishes we got (poke bowl and lettuce wraps) leaned too heavily on the sauces. There was little distinction or nuance in the flavours, the veggies and proteins were drowned out. Id still return, if only to try their dinner menu and some of the drinks. Its just hard for me to recommend it based on our most recent visit.

I ve gone here many times now and I ve never had a bad meal. I would say their food is some of the best in Kingston. They serve brunch thru dinner, both menus are excellent. For brunch, their eggs benedict and shakshouka are tasty, and for dinner the fried calamari app is a great choice. The atmosphere is nice, with the bar and neon signs adding a nice touch. The only reason I gave the service 4 stars is for wait time. It can take a little time for the food and for the servers to make their way to your table. But other than that, I highly recommend.

I ve been to Union a few times and have always had a great time, but my most recent experience was incredible! I tried the new Korean short rib tacos at the recommendation of our waitress Alish (not sure if that s how you spell it!). The service we received from her was next level. She was very knowledgeable and professional, and it was clear she wanted to ensure we had the best dining experience possible. Will definitely recommend Union to any friends in Kingston looking for a place to eat!

I came in to union last week a bit too early for my reservation luckily, the bar staff was super accommodating. Abby made me a great coffee which l got to sit at the bar and sip while I enjoyed the upbeat atmosphere.

Just had lunch. The food was great and our server, Abby, was fantastic and made our experience even better. Korean BBQ sandwich was spot on!

Nov.20, we arrived for our 6:00 reservation. We were seated and told the server we were attending the Grand @7:30. We waited 1/2 hour before our order was taken. It was another 40 mins to be served our meal. We had to gobble it down in 8mins in order to get to the Grand. Our waiter was not considerate at all, in fact very condescending. You have lost us as customers.

I went to union for my birthday and I had the best experience so I felt like I had to leave a review. My server, I think her name was Eilish, was so personable and made the experience so much better. I ordered the cajun shrimp and it was to die for, I love a shrimp and this was one of the best I ve had. I am definitely recommending to my friends, for a night to chill out or a night to get wild with friends, such an amazing atmosphere. Definitely coming back.

One of my favourites in Kingston, hadn t been to Union Kitchen in a while so we were very excited to return recently to celebrate my partner s graduation. We came on a weeknight so it was nice and quiet, while our server Eilish still managed to provide us with a fun and lively experience - she made everyone feel like they made the best choice no matter what they ordered and you could tell she knows the menu well and cares about the customers she serves. Great overall experience and looking forward to coming back soon!

Waited way too long for food that was mediocre and expensive. Got a mojito that I m pretty sure was just water with mint and lime. Very limited menu with no gluten free options other than an overpriced salad that wasn t amazing. Won t be back

We were at Union on a Wednesday afternoon for some cocktails while visiting Kingston on our annual pre Christmas vacation. Union is always one of our first stops as it s our favourite bar to find the perfect refreshments! We sat at the bar and met Kayla and Dorrie who suggested and mixed some old favourites and introduced us to some new ones. The PickleBack was our best find! These two treated us like we were in their home at their kitchen island. Best afternoon ever! See you soon.

Affordable menu comes with the forfeit of service. We waited 15 minutes to be served drinks at the bar and then no return service was had. Skip the paid downtown parking and go to a Kelseys for the same mid tier experience.

Kayla and Lisa were spectacular. Great service and amazing food. Definitely ask for the Mega Mimosa!!! If the shakshuka and breakfast poutine were to return it would be amazing. Definitely coming back!!!

Don t know if they were short staffed last night or if our server was having a bad night but i was certainly disappointed with the service. When my friend spilled her drink, they gave her a few napkins. Never came to wipe down the table. I had to go ask for a towel. And there was Coke everywhere. When appetizers were served we had to ask for the cutlery. Our meal was late and dont order the seared scallops. Pretty disappointing portion size,(3 scallops). (My friend was happy with her burger though). We had to ask twice for ketchup for the fries. For the price we paid I would have thought I d be tended to better than we got.

Ordered bone marrow, waited 25 minutes, waitress didn t pay attention to our table at all. Rude at the end of the night. Waitress Leana, had attitude.

Absolutely divine. This was my first time there and we were just a bit too late for the bunch menu. However, we were not disappointed at all. My partner got a burger and I got some pasta, both as recommended by our waiter. Both were amazing. Our waiter was also exceptional. He was professional and made sure that everything was to our liking. Side note, we got the Mega-mosa and shared it between us. Completely lived up to all the hype.

Went there on Sunday at 3 pm after 2 other closed restaurants on Princess St. Wed never been there before but saw the burger and fries someone was eating on the patio and we went in. They were also closing but kindly let us order a burger and fries. It was as delicious as it looked. Thanks again for feeding us!

We ordered our meals and after waiting for over an hour we asked the waitress how much longer it would be, to which she replied at least another 20 minutes. We didn t think it was worth waiting that long for a burger, so we left but the staff did delete a beer from our bill, so that obviously made up for the wait! With so many great restaurants in Kingston, why would we ever come back to Union for mediocre service (at best).

We went to union yesterday, the food was taking a long time, main course was taking over an hour to come. However, our server Kat was extremely helpful and had great recommendations about food and the Kingston area. We would recommend going back but maybe ask about the food wait times before dining. The zucchini chips and goat cheese smash burger ended up being awesome. Great Atmosphere and great people!

Friendly staff and great cocktails

Go for the food, stay for the atmosphere. Truly one of my favourite Kingston restaurants. The food never disappoints and the experience truly is one of a kind. On our last visit our server Mack made the experience even better with her great banter with our 3 year old who now asks constantly if we can go back and have zucchini chips and visit Mack. Thanks for the amazing food and service always.

Staff was friendly and good service

They have a nice brunch menu, and their burger is one of my favorites in Kingston! The layout for their indoor seatings is lovely, the patio is cute, and they have an extended patio for the busier days.

Servers were nice. It took about 1.5 hrs for scrambled eggs and bacon - food was okay.

Wow, super great beef short rib sandwich. Service was friendly, helpful and prompt. Glad we went.

Went for brunch on a sunday at 10am, the classic eggs Benny was great. Also had the megamimosa (think thats right) its legit a giant Mimosa would recommend for the price its very good bang for buck. Quiet but busy, the constant flow of people was nice, so it never got too crowded. Service was great, friendly and attentive even during rushes. If you are looking for brunch come here, top brunch Ive had in Kingston in the last 5 years.

we really enjoyed our first visit. Mussels for me, wings and burgers for the rest of our party. All agreed that the food was very good and the service excellent... why not five? I never went inside, so really cannot comment on the actual dine in atmosphere, but we will be back to check it out!

We heard they had the best oysters so we stopped in but had the mussels instead. We were not disappointed. The mussels were very fresh and smothered in a delicious sauce. Its so disappointing when one orders mussels and they stink like horse poo...but not at Union!

Cant say enough about this restaurant. Never had a bad meal. The grilled octopus was fantastic.

Honestly: its overpriced. The food is fine, good even, but you absolutely do not get any bang for your buck- expect to pay $16-$20 for a dish that would cost $5 at Warehouse in Toronto. Also they were out of wings at 5pm on a Friday?? Not the sign of a kitchen firing on all cylinders. Check it out for sure- the aesthetic is cool and the staff are certainly friendly- but go in knowing youre not necessarily going to get what you paid for.

We waited for 25 minutes till the server brought in the menus, we waited an hour for the food to be served; two tables orders were taken before us even though we were seated before. Restaurant is not full yet the staff seems to be overwhelmed! Food tasted good, small portions so we all left hungry, the experience was very bad

This is one of the most underrated spots in Kingston for food. Their drink menu is unique and delicious but the food is even better. It s obvious a lot of effort has gone into their menu and the flavour combinations are incredible. The presentation & quality of the food was amazing, definitely a must try!

Currently my favourite place in town! Great lounge style atmosphere and serves the best drinks in town! Food is amazing with great flavours from all over the world.

We went here from brunch with so.e friends that were coming from out of town. My partner ordered the salmon benedict and I ordered the spinach benedit. The food was served quickly and it was very delicious. We will definitely be coming back and recommending this place to anyone else looking for a great brunch/dinner spot!

Great food and very nice servers! I got the goat Smashburger which was very good. It had pickled jalapenos and was not spicy at all (which for me was a slight negative) but overall very good experience!

Great and friendly service! I sat at the bar and had the chai martini to start, so yummy! The charcuterie was delicious with nice options for spice, sweet, fresh and salty. The muscles were fresh and flavourful and my dirty dirty gin martinis were perfect also. I enjoyed my night, thank you!

Super slow service. Waited an hour and a half for food, with almost no communication from server until we asked twice. They did comp / discount our food, food was good but not worth an hour and a half wait.

We went there yesterday (Sunday) morning around 11:30 and was seated pretty quickly but then we waited for almost 1.5 hours to get the food (if they had told us of such a long wait time after seating, we would not have stayed). What was supposed to be a brunch turned out to be a late lunch. There werent that many tables in the restaurant so I could only conclude that the kitchen was not operating properly. Food is fine but is probably overrated in our opinion (and certainly not worth the long waiting). Not impressed.

Food is great, but, dont come here if you have any appointments that week. The Blue Jays will win the World Series before you get your food.

Had the salad with warm Brussels, they were hard as a rock, server seemed uninterested at best, brought my bread at the end of my meal. Manager gave 4 dollars and change off the salad. Tacos, salad two glasses of wine with tip came to $81.00????

Food was good but wait times to have your food arrive was very long. Took about 1.5 hours for an eggs benedict. Overall it took long enough that I had to run out and add more time on my parking meter. Not really worth the wait.

Had a great time at Union with my friends. Food was great and service by Eilish was top notch. Would go again!

Absolutely delightful staff, great food, wonderful atmosphere. Our server apologized from the start that they were short staffed and to expect delays but the service could not have been better and the food was delicious. Great night, will definitely come back.

Best Whiskey Sour Ive found in Kingston. Was pretty busy but didnt feel congested.

A worthy addition to the downtown restaurant scene! The burgers are highly recommended -- and the two entrees Ive had have both been fabulous. This restaurant is an excellent value for a delicious dining experience.

Great wings, little expensive for wine and beer but the food and ambience was excellent
