This is my favourite sushi place in Kingston! The maki deluxe is my favourite combo. I have been coming here since 2020 and enjoy my food every time :)
Negitoro and negihama were made in a uramaki style not a hosomaki style as it traditionally is. Also, the fish was not made of minced fatty tuna, but just cuts of the fish that were very lean. Also, tasted very fishy and not savory / sweet as a negi roll typically does. The rice was a bit hard, couldn't tell if it wasn't cooked properly or was just old.
I’ve ordered from Izumo a few times to try it out before doing a full review. When I first went here they were still open for dine in and I loved how intimate the dining area was. Though it’s quite small, it’s not often busy. Since Covid they started doing takeout only. They also *usually* give a discount when you pay with cash like most sushi places. Lately they’re doing a 20% discount on cash payments. They are a family owned business and have very kind customer service. If you’re ordering in a large group and getting one of the party trays, you’ll be paying a bit less than other sushi places in the area, however the size of their maki rolls are smaller than most places. The quality can be hit or miss, I have gone sometimes and found the fish didn’t smell as fresh or that some pieces were a bit dry unfortunately. That being said, my most recent experience with them was positive; our order was ready on time, we got a 20% discount for paying with cash, and they packed a small container of soy sauce for each of us - we all like different levels of wasabi in our soy sauce, so this was lovely. Most of our sushi pieces tasted fresh and the maki rolls all had a unique flavour to them, which was nice. Sushi is one of my favourite foods, I eat it at least once a week. In Kingston, I have three favourite sushi places that are hard to beat in terms of quality and taste. Therefore I don’t think I’ll be back here anytime soon for sushi. Instead I’ll return when they open indoor dining and try out their noodle dishes.
This was quite disappointing. All of these rolls but none of them had much, if any flavour. Almost couldn’t differentiate one roll from another. To boot we only received one tiny container of soy sauce for all of this sushi and after tax, tip and delivery it cost over $90! Unfortunately, won’t be ordering again.
Update: my second order was beyond disappointing :( unfortunately the fish was not even slightly fresh. the smell hit my nose as soon as i opened the container and i could barely get through one piece! so upset, i thought i had found my new sushi spot! I am so impressed! this is my first time ordering snd i’m kicking myself for not going sooner!! this was an amazing deal for amazing sushi. the fish was fresh. delicious. i couldn’t recommend them more! there is a lot of good sushi in this town but this is unbelievable! I cant get over how much fresh fish i got for so little!! ($41 before delivery and tax $6) i ordered; sashimi tempura bento box ( first picture) tako sashimi salmon sushi and a salmon roll
We ordered for the first time since moving to Kingston. Over the phone they were very pleasant. Picked up order only to find out when we got home that a roll was missing. When called they said we would have to drive all the way back downtown to get it or get a refund in person only. Therefore one child didn’t get their dinner order. At first glance the rolls looked well made except for the avocado which was old and very brown and spotted even before opening the clear lid. Was not worth the $71 we spent.
The food here is way too expensive for the quantity and quality given. I got a bibimnaengmyun ($14) with a red dragon roll ($13) and my friend got a sashimi bento box ($20). First, the naengmyun had garnishes that were less that satisfactory. One piece of dry beef, three small chunks of radish, some cucumbers, and the sauce tasted stale. The noodles were stuck together and hard to mix with the sauce. The red dragon roll was small (as small as a normal california roll) and the filling was worse than a 6 dollar california roll from other restuarants. Finally, the sashimi bento box used old fish, the tempura was cooked with old oil, and the gyoza was stale as well. There was very poor customer service as well. Also, the workers were on their phones the entire time, calling people on speaker phone. There are so many other amazing sushi places in Kingston. Don't waste your time, money, and taste buds on this one. I'd checkout sushibar da instead.
Excellent food with great service! The prices are fair and the setting is a small, yet well decorated japanese-style restaurant with a quality music choice. We ordered the small sushi box and we were very satisfied with the quality of the sushi and sashimi.
Worst restaurant in town
Fast service, nice quality and taste !
Absolutely amazing. Ordered through Uber eats
Kingstons most underrated sushi spot. I have been getting their excellent sashimi bento box for years now and it has never changed even a little bit. No shrinkflation here! Just a family owned restaurant committed to their craft.
Very quick and tasty
I have tried all the Japanese restaurants in Kingston. Unfortunately this is one of the worst in terms of food quality. Although izumo might be the cheapest sushi spot in town, I still don t think it s worth it.
I ordered food last night and when the order came incorrect I called the restaurant to inform them. They flat out admitted that when they are busy they will give the customer whatever they have available, I have never heard of that in my life. The food went into the garbage as no one liked what they gave us, they didn t even bother checking if anyone was allergic to this random sushi we were given instead, possibly poisoning/killing someone. No apology was given in any way, shape or form. The lady kept asking me over and over what sushi I got instead like answering that question would somehow make things better. No refund was offered in the slightest, I had to ask for one. Generally I would have shrugged this off but this was possibly the worse service I ve ever had.
Authentic delicious Sushi you can find in Kingston Dietary restrictions: Food prepared according to the individual dietary restrictions Food : 5/5 |
takoyaki is frozen not fresh octopus is like eating rocks because it is months old. Very disappointing. Ive to mention everything else I ordered was rotten. I recommend nobody eating here untill they can meet sanitary and cooking standards or you will get sick
Great sushi. Freshly made, Great spot for take out.
Loved the sushi and great prices! 20% off discount for cash. Vegetarian options: Lots of veggie sushis Food : 5/5 |
Ordered here for takeout. As a vegetarian I wish there were some more options, but I was pretty happy with what I got. I wish there were some more sauce packets included with my spring rolls though! Vegetarian options: There are some vegetarian rolls (avocado, cucumber). There are also some appetizers like spring rolls and tofu which can be made vegetarian. I was a little dissappitned with the vegetarian selection though
My go to sushi restaurant in Kingston!
So delicious! I have definitely found my new sushi spot !!
Very Rude People
Very meh.... nothing special. Wouldn t order again.
My new favorite sushi in town. Wish they were a tad cheaper per roll but you are paying for quality.
Delicious.
Sushi is ok. It is slightly better than what you get at a mall good court. For the price there are better option.
Decided to try out the hand rolls and sashimi sample platter. Normally I love sashimi but this did not smell edible, it tasted old and I had to contact skip to get a refund so I could eat dinner. The hand roll was mainly rice with very little salmon or any other toppings. All in all not a good experience.
Best Shrimp Rolls ever.
overpriced and poor quality. I had the Deluxe Maki and I found the rolls didnt taste very good especially for 21 dollars for three of them
I often get hair from their food.
Evening
Excellent food amazing service I would totally visit here again! Nice little cute restaurant!!
Was 30 minutes shy of closing. Gave all his rice (supposedly), to Uber eats guy. Turned us away.
Absolutely do not order food here. I paid $18 for smelly fish on tasteless rice in styrofoam. Inedible.
Extremely small order for what we paid ! Sushi pizza was tiny and not even that good, would not order again
Sushi was pretty good. And the service was great .
Worst place in Kingston to eat food. Unprofessional and disrespectful staff.
They don t know how to treat people... worse experience ever
The person does not respect his clients. He is so egoistic.
I went up there and I ordered food .. I have to wait 1 hour and the food is not hot as it should be .. my experience is really bad with this place .. and the customer service is also so bad .. nobody s cares about you ...
We had bulgogi dinner. The food was fine, but the price does not match the quality and the quantity of the food (total came to 20 cad per person with tax and tips). The food portions were really small, and we have to get something else to eat after since none of us were full. There are way better sushi/Korean places in downtown having better food and prices. Very disappointing experience and will not come again.
Great sushi!
I ve been going to Izumo for a couple years and sadly the food quality went down. The fish used in rolls is old and sashimi is mediocre. It used to be one of my favourite sushi restaurants in Kingston.
The best sushi & friendliest staff in town!
Great sushi at great prices, easy ordering via Just-Eat.ca
The best sushi in Kingston. Having been to numerous sushi restaurants in the Kingston, Toronto, Oakville and Burlington area, I can safely say Izumo is the best in Kingston. Its not cheap, but if you are in the mood for very good sushi, Izumo has never let me down.
I m not a big fan of the raw fish, but this place is definitely perfect for me because they have a lot of options. The price is very convenient and the service is just good enough for a person who complain all the time like me. Lol I definitely recommend this place 200% Fresh sushi or anything else at a low cost
I ordered 7. Fusion Salmon Sushi Wrap Roll (8 pcs) through skip the dishes and instead of having 8, I only got 5 and obviously I dont have time to go to the restaurant and ask wheres the other 3.
The worst sushi I had in a long time. The quality is bad. Ordered through just eat. It was $15 myself so I was expecting it to be at least ok. But yes I wouldnt even pay $5 for this supermarket quality sushi. I can get it from metro. I dont know how people give it 5 stars.
The fish wasnt as fresh as some other places downtown.
The BEST SUSHI place! Made by real Japanese. Place was home-ish and small but service was great! My family and I keep eating at Izumo.
Always so nicely treated. And the food is fantastic. Thank you!!!
Value for money non-existent. ..
My favorite fish focused sushi. Quality has been high and prices fair through changes in ownership.
This is the perfect example of a restaurant giving up what gave them a competitive advantage for increased margins. I first discovered this small, quaint spot in early 2015. It quickly became one of our favourite date spots with wonderful sushi platters made in a family-environment. Unfortunately, over the past few years the quality of the fish has decreased significantly, in addition to terrible service. Izumo used to have some of the best quality sushi in all of Kingston, but it has settled for mediocrity over time.
Fantastic service, and expert chefs! The food presentation is lovely, and it s deliciously fresh.
Great sushi and cheap lunch prices. Just a bit small inside.
All you can eat sushi! Great service people are eager to serve you.
Very disappointed. Order a plate i said i have 3 children 3 /4 of the plate my kids couldnt eat it , too spicy ... 3/4 of the plates its raw fish ...
This place is AWESOME! The food is a good size and the decor is amazing :D i asked for the tempura udon and they brought out this tiny plate of tempura and a tiny bowl of noodles and i was thinking is this it? But then they brought out the BIG BOWL that was actually the rest of my food lol! A very good and tasty surprize! 5/5 will visit again!!
great place and very good sushi.
Great prices, great service, AMAZING SUSHI. By far the best sushi in Kingston!
Excellent food and excellent service! As a vegetarian, I had quite a few options, and loved the yam/avocado roll. Very happy to find such a good sushi place on a short trip to Kingston
This sushi is pretty bomb! Its run by really nice people, too.
Dynamite rolls are good. Pricier than some other places near campus. Overall great!
I was very disappointed, and dont understand why it is so overrated. The fish (especially tuna) seemed very cheap, and the sashimies were as thin as the ones that goes on nigiries. The server wasnt attentive. We ordered a sashimi starter, a sushi delux, and an order of takoyaki. There were 5 pieces of salmon, two piecs of snapper, a piece of tuna, and one piece of yellow tail in sashimi starter. The sushi delux was supposed to have 18 pieces of assorted sushi, but half of them were salmon. The rice portion was big, the sizes of fishes were irregular, and again I dont understand.. why too much salmon? The delux had only 4 different kinds of fishes. The fishes were room temperature, as well. Not visiting this place ever, EVER again.
Very delicious. The place r nice
Absolutely fantastic food, every time. Always excellent service, more than fair prices, and very nice owners! I stumbled upon this smaller restaurant in my quest for decent sushi and havent looked back. Once a friend and I went twice in one week and the chef sent us a free roll that we had never tried before - it was beyond delicious!
Great place for sushi. I was sad at first to see my favorite rolls were a bit pricey so I ended up ordering one of their combos instead. It was wonderful, from the quality to the quantity to the decor as well. It even came with miso soup! The place is really small but the music and wall decorations are nice. Definitely recommend. Oh yeah, staff were very friendly as well!
The environment is amazing, the restaurant is clean, the service is fast, friendly, and kind. Took my girlfriend here on a whim, and it was some of the best Sushi Ive ever had, the prices were awesome, and as we were finishing up the chef sent us two new pieces of sushi on the house for us to try that hed been experimenting with, and free melon and fresh raspberries for dessert.
