I went there with a friend to celebrate my birthday, and the server was so attentive and friendly. My favorite was the pork jowl pasta with mushrooms and Dungeness crab ravioli. This place would be a cute date night place. The place wasn’t crowded as I went during a week day (Wednesday) evening. It doesn’t have parking and you will have to find street parking.

High quality contemporary Italian. The homemade pasta was perfect - as good as the real stuff from Italy (or NYC). Hearty portions and excellent service. Great for dates. Will return!

A great contemporary Italian restaurants in Kirkland. They have a great happy hour, central downtown Kirkland location, fun and casual atmosphere, and the best bartender imo. Drinks are suitably strong, none of the watered down nonsense served at many places. The amazing mixologist lady remembered my drink after one time! And what a fine mixologist she is. She can personalized your cocktail to your liking. Their boar tenderloin is my favorite, but all their pasta dishes are also very very good. The challenge here is picking one thing.

Your neighbor dinner date place! The ambiance, service, and food are great! I tried the New York Steak and my wife tried the Rabbit roast! Both were awesome!

Very solid Italian spot. Highlight was the pork jowl and wild mushroom pasta. One of the best pastas I’ve had in the US. Crab cakes were delicious. Lobster risotto was ok. Chocolate cake center could’ve been hotter for contrast with the gelato. Drinks were solid and service was solid.

Food is very very good. Pictures are some of the dishes: Oxtail dish 10/10 (the one with wide pasta), mushroom pork dish 7/10 (the one with thin noodles), and Wild Boar 9/10 (the one with veggies). The bread is hard. Location is welcoming and clean. Service is average, the waiter was friendly but whispering, talking very fast, difficult to understand.

I hope the food quality is not a fluke because it's the best fettuccine I've ever had. I got sausage fet and wife got seafood fettuccine. They're just soo good. We couldn't get a reservation so we showed up around 5pm on a Saturday to get table. Got one close to the bar and got happy hour appetizer too. Totally recommend their fettuccine.

The ladies who greeted us and packed our food were kind and attentive. The male waiter we had was an absent, sassy, forgetful, jerk. Yes, it s busy, but inconveniences such as long waits can be dealt with professionally. The saving grace was having dinner in good company. Being with my partner and friend is the only reason I didn t make a scene and go off on that waiter. IF I come here again and see that jerk, then you can bet I m walking out. Food was ok and at reasonable prices but a bit on the greasier side.

Just had dinner there again on January 26th 2024. We arrived at 4:45 pm and needed to leave by 6:10 pm to go to a kraken hockey game. Our entries did not show up till 6:10pm +. We did not have time to eat and left our entries on the table. The manager was worthless! All she did was argue with us blaming us for not informing the waiter we were short on time. All the manager did was argue with us.

Pretentious...Nestled in downtown Kirkland, open kitchen, white linen tablecloth, large 1 paged menu, and separate specials menu, Yada Yada, Yada. It goes downhill from there yet entertaining. We came to celebrate a friends birthday, his choice of venue. We get there, cozy enough of a joint, almost full restaurant, and definitely a full bar. Our waiter comes by and in a very loud voice. Maybe hes used to senior citizens? Maybe because I have mostly frosted hair, as do my dinner guest, announces that he would be taking care of us tonight. He then, for whatever reason, stampers that hes got a Brain fart. as he forgets his train of thought. Underwhelmed, we order drinks, and while were enjoying the company and delicious bread, a patron from the corner of the bar nearest me begins to stumble out. I initially thought he might have been an ADA individual but, upon further review, realized that he was horribly intoxicated. I had to press all the way into my table to allow him to pass by. When he brushes by the now deemed server, he almost fell and had to use a nearby cocktail table to hold himself up. A very slight female goes to his aid, and as I ask the server, Shouldnt you go help the individual, he calmly states, No, shes the manager. Hold the applause... The manager helps the wretched soul out into frigid, 22 degree night, then comes immediately back in. The server comments, Boy! Someones going to make another $400 night! We were perplexed. He then explains, When he hurls in the Uber, the driver will charge the additional fee! At that point, I thought perhaps we deserved the additional $400 for him hurling this additional unnecessary banter. The meal arrived, nothing to scream about. Standard fare, overly salted bolonese with a creamy tomato sauce. I should have read the fine print. The birthday guy had the same but gluten free, partner had the lobster risotto, which she enjoyed, and our fourth had the wild boar. Long winded... What started out to be a great dining experience in celebration of our friends double nickle birthday turned out to be a fun night out enjoying each others company. No photos. Who wants to see pictures of creamy tomato blahs? I did think the plating for the wild boar was nice!

We made reservations for dinner on New Years Eve. The day before our reservation we were contacted by an aggressive young lady from the restaurant telling me I MUST give them my credit card number over the phone or my reservation would be cancelled. With all of the fraud going on nowadays I said no. I asked to speak with the manager and was chastised for being rude when I refused to give my credit card. My reservation was honored. The food was good, but it was very pricey. $322 for two people and we brought our wine and paid a $30 corkage fee. Wasnt worth it and we wont return.

My wife and I have lived in Kirkland over a year, and for one reason or another avoided this place. We finally tried it recently, and I don t know why we stayed away so long! Ever part of the meal was terrific (I had the bolognese, and she had the beet salad with chicken). The wine list was large, but there were fair options that we both liked. This may be our new date spot! Highly recommend.

An interesting evening. We were a party of four, two couples, who were celebrating two birthdays. The food was good, the service just ok, attentive at times. When we went to pay the check we put two credit cards on the dish, and the server took it away but brought back just one printed credit card slip for the whole check. When we pointed this out he took it away to straighten out his mistake but he stated that there had been only one card on the dish, but there were two - one was just hidden behind the paperwork. We pointed this out. When he returned with the corrected card slips he dropped the dish on the table and stormed off saying that we were trying to railroad him. He then came back to the table to state again that only one card had been on the dish. By this time he was literally shaking with rage and losing control. We left. Whatever happened to the saying that the customer is always right? (which we were). The evening, which started out so well was ruined by this rude man. We shall not be returning.

The tables were really close together, its not a large place so they probably didnt have much choice. Our table was soooo small - we had to keep rearranging things like our water cups to the middle of the table to make space for whatever we were consuming at the time. For the prices, I expected larger portions. The food tasted good but no more magical than any of the other Italian restaurants in the area. I think Maggianos is a better bet overall. If the overall ambiance and experience felt more exquisite then the higher prices wouldve been more warranted but it just felt like your average dinner place. We left kind of hungry, didnt bother ordering tiramisu (and I ALWAYS order some, at least to go).

Our first visit to Volterra felt like a solid land in a place with excellent food alongside a cozy ambiance. Enter under a sparkly chandelier and sit underneath intimate pendant lighting. We hired a babysitter and celebrated our anniversary with dinner at Volterra, which felt well worth all the effort to escape our kids! We ordered the wild boar and osso bucco after appetizers of calamari and crab cakes. Food is beautifully presented and generously portioned. Wine list is mostly by the bottle, though the options were nicely varied. Volterra is a nice walk down to the waterfront or up to Park Place if you are wanting to extend your experience. Park street side or in the public parking lot under the library.

Was disappointed as booked this for my husbands birthday. The squash spagetti stated that it was in a mushroom broth but lacked taste other than being way to overpowered by chilli that any other ingredients could not be tasted. My husbands food was ok but nothing special. The mocktails were just soda with a tiny hint of flavour and not worth the money . There are definately better places to eat locally and I will not be going back

I kept my reservation and arrived early. The restaurant manager was at the host station on the phone, didnt acknowledge us even after looking at my wife and I. A hostess noticed us standing there for a bit, with an almost empty restaurant, he came over and asked the manager if we had been helped yet. He said to just sit them anywhere. The hostess was nice all evening and I left him a $50 tip. The rude manager however made it a not so enjoyable evening. He even came over at one point (no words) took our wine menu to give to another couple of fairer complexion. We had at this point purchased 3 different glasses of wine and still on appetizers. The evening was definitely hard to enjoy considering it was her birthday. She asked me to not make a fuss about it but she couldnt help but make a face each time he would walk by. Returning? Probably not

Sadly, we forgot our new washington paper IDs at home. Fortunately, I had my national ID on hand. However, this establishment s server refused my girlfriend service due to having a punched ID, stating it was against the law. Server was wrong about this. Washington state law states that her ID is acceptable for alcoholic beverage purchases as long as it is unexpired and it isn t hole-punched through the face, it was neither. I showed her this law, but she refused to listen and kicked us out. This was very sad and because I had planned a cute date for my girlfriend and I at this establishment, and we spent a lot of of time getting there. Bad experience.

This our third time at this restaurant and our experience this time was not what we remember. To start, the hostess seemed frazzled, when we came in, I had open the door for my wife and the hostess cut in front of her. I ordered a drink that they got wrong 3 times, by the 3rd time I just took it because it had been 20+ minutes since I ordered. We ordered the 3-course meal. The Bolognese tasted great, the Risotto was OK. When it came to dessert, we ordered the Chocolate Cake which was tasty and the Tiramisu which was awful, no taste whatsoever. Not anything exceptional and certainly not for the price! Disappointed that anyone at our table was raving about their food. The lamb meatballs were ok, but just okay. The crab cake was pretty tasty. The beet salad was just okay! It needed something like feta, or something to give it a little zing! Disappointed in the prawn entree and the mushroom pasta. The pasta looked amazing but was underwhelming. The boar was good and very tender, cooked rare but again for the money I thought that our meal should have been memorable. But memorable, it was not. I really wanted to like it after reading other reviews that weren t so good! I would say pass on this restaurant and save your money for a memorable experience!

From a dining experience perspective, its pretty nice - decor, service, food presentation and ease of reservation. From a food perspective, it was not worth the money. For the price range I expected something that I could not possibly have made myself.

Was very excited about coming here for a a family dinner but was disappointed in the service and portions. I ordered crab ravioli and got 6 thin raviolis with nothing but bitter cabbage with it while the other entreee portions were appropriately sized. The tiramisu was soggy but tasty. And those things werent even a big issue and I still would have given 5 stars, however our server was the rudest person. Never smiled, was never friendly or patient. Seemed bothered by us even being there. And it all started when we told her we would not be buying wine or cocktails. Normally, I love to try new wine and given the occasion, would have liked to buy a bottle for the table, howvere a member of our party is a recovering alcoholic and it would have been insensitive of us to have ordered alcohol at our table. Instead of maybe considering this as a possibility, our waitress instead took this as a personal insult and treated us like 2nd class citizens. Paid almost $200 without the wine and apparently thats still not enough to make them happy. I will never recommend this place to anyone and will not be coming back. If I want good Italian food, Ill go to my grandmothers.

Staff are great here and so is the food. It is a more upscale restaurant, so it is more pricy of course. The atmosphere was a bit much for me because it was crowded, so Id suggest to come at times when it isnt so bad. Also do reserve a table if you can.

The lamb shark probably is the best I ve had so far. Tender, tasty, juicy. All the flavors are seared in the lamb. I can pull it easily with fork only. I m not a big fan of olives, but it s minor and little in the plate. The cream polenta is ok for me, I m not a fan of buttery meal as well. Hope the review provides some information for people who need.

My husband and I recently moved to the east side and tried Volterra for the first time this past weekend. We were really impressed! The service is very attentive and friendly, the wine selection is great and the staff is very knowledgeable on it, the food was wonderful (we had the clams and sausage, bolognese and wild boar), and the atmosphere was fun and vibrant. Would definitely recommend this place as it was one of the better all around meals we ve had in a while. We will be regulars of Volterra going forward!

I was taking my daughter out for dinner and picked Volterra as a higher end Italian restaurant that was actually recommended by Racheal Ray. The dining space was a little on the small side and felt slightly cramped especially with proper distancing, but beyond that it was amazing. The staff was friendly and worked hard to give you the best service. The food was beyond excellent. Before you even order drinks they rush out half a loaf of sliced hot Italian bread with olive oil and seasonings to have it with. The appetizer meat and cheese plate was the best tasting cuts, and cheese olives. We both agreed on and had the Dungeness crab ravioli. It was perfect! Filled with a lot of fresh tasting crab, made with hand made organic pasta and covered with a sauce that made the whole dish heavenly. We shared a chocolate dessert with vanilla gelato and hot fudge sauce on the inside. Yummy! It is about $80 to $100 for two people but well worth it for special occasions and if you love really good Italian food.

Solid 4.2 here for dinner during a stormy Sat eve. Good ambiance, excellent service (sorry dont recall her name), good drinks/wine selection. Lamb shank on polenta was truly excellent, stroganoff on fettuccine fairly good taste tho beef tougher than expected. Beets salad a winner too, as always. Upper/mid prices, good value for a place that still offers real cloth napkins (no tablecloth tho, and Im ok with not adding to the laundry carbon footprint, so just give me very good quality paper napkins). Well be back to try the boar and halibut.

I came here for dinner the other night with some girlfriends for SRW and was quite impressed! We will definitely be back! We had a reservation and were seated quickly. The food came quickly and huge portions! And, it was delicious! I think they may be understaffed (as most restaurants are right now) so the service was a little slow, but nonetheless has a good experience! I had the spaghetti Bolognese, Caesar salad and tiramisu and would have all of that again!

My first time there! Food was okay..nothing special! What bothered me the most is that the tables are super close together and it felt like I was at dinner with family! That definitely ruined my husband birthday celebration! Not talking about the CDC Covid-19 rules, definitely not respected!

My husband and I ate at Volterra last night. We were both very impressed. The food was excellent. We enjoyed all three dishes that we ordered. Our server was excellent - attentive without being annoying. The service was well-paced, I thought. We had plenty of time to enjoy our food and didnt feel rushed, but the wait wasnt excessive. The ambiance was also pleasant. The prices seemed fair and not excessive for the quality of food and service. My only complaint would be that the tables were small and close together. We would have appreciated a larger table.

Food: 4/5 Very few but great vegetarian options. We ordered beet salad, vegan linguine and veges, blood orange soda and clementine sparkle. Everything was delicious. The pasta was full of veges and very flavorful. The salad also had a great texture and mix of sweet and juicy flavours. Not a perfect 5 only because the pasta felt like a mixture and didn t blend together but tasty nevertheless. Ambiance: 5/5 Classy fine dining ambiance! Service: 5/5 The server was very nice and friendly and came to check in once a while. Value: 4/5 Spent around $35 pp which is quite reasonable for a fine dining place. Return? Yes - sadly they have limited vege options but would come back for the same meal.

We had a Valentine dinner with another couple. It was a four course fixed price menu, but with lots of choices within each course. My experience with this method is that you usually get some hits a misses, not this time! Each course, and there were different selection around our table, was excellent.we live in Kirkland and had tried Volterra a few times in the past to pedestrian results, not this time. If they continue to do as well as they did this last time, we wi be back often. The only turn-off was a 20% gratuity was automatically added to our bill, I m old fashioned and like choice or to add it to the bill up front and not charge one.

The service was fantastic and the food was delicious. Every server was very courteous and helpful. It wasnt very busy when I was in the restaurant so Im sure the amount of attention would change if the restaurant was full of people but you do get a nice meal and people that are working there are nice and seem genuine but expect to pay a bit. If youre looking for a nicer place to have a nice dinner that isnt the usual I would recommend trying this out.

If you come on a full night guaranteed youll be shouting to hear your partner, and even the servers get in on it too to best speak to you. The tables are a little crammed together but if you dont come during Seattle Restaurant Week maybe your ears wont be ringing afterwards. That being said the dining room has a nice interior and location is along a strolling row of shops and restaurants in downtown Kirkland. The appetizers and red meat entrées are amazing. I think its their attention to sauces that really sets Volterra apart from other New American places for me. Didnt try their pasta after reading other reviews (Im also trying to carb down too). Both of the desserts lacked a little bit in sweetness/texture that I wouldve found good to have after devouring the beef tenderloin and some wild boar but they balance each other out so we went back and forth between the tiramisu and chocolate cake. Great date spot and you can easily walk around afterwards and hop to another place without driving.

Not bad but not worth the price. We ordered the takeout 3-course. $50 each. As the third dish, Tiramisu is soggy as the most of reviews said( which means they either don t read reviews or don t want to change). As the first dish, house salad only has one kind of vegetable. Main is good. Don t get your hopes up.

It s very crowded. They sat us on a 2 top table, which is against the wall, and in between two other tables. My husband sat next to me on the bench, against the wall, just until our food were to arrive. A lady came up to us and told him he had to move that the other tables had reservations(she didn t ask politely). Mind you, we weren t taking up the other table s space, it was just going to be crowded. Another couple, two tables over, were sitting next to each other as well but she gave my husband a glare to move. So he did and didn t say anything. He enjoyed his meal (Bolognese) but my crispy chicken was not crispy at all and was quite tough. Our server was great but didn t say much to my comment of needing a steak knife because of the toughness. We ve dined here prior to this occasion and had a pleasant experience but won t be going back because of the rude behavior and lack of space.

Food didnt seem flavorful. Cook probably afraid of salt which is fine for my waistline as Im wont be tempted to eat more than needed. Easier to quit when full. Gave it extra star because of that. I forgot what I ordered which was about 10 days ago. Probably not that memorable. But I did enjoy the company (coworkers). One in company ordered wild boar dish, which lead to interesting discussion about feral pigs in the US.

We stopped in for a Sunday night meal and drinks. Food was pretty good - we both enjoyed most of what we had. The prawn main wasnt great although the pork cheek and calamari were excellent. Service somewhat cold, if efficient. Took a while after we were seated to be addressed, and experienced no real welcome to the restaurant. Server (Artemis) was very very focused on cross sell, and wasnt particularly good at it. She put my wife on the spot twice with a kind of aggressive cross sell and was awkward with her after she declined. We both ordered drinks, appetizers and mains so Im not sure where the panic is from. I think if we had a warmer welcome and no cross sell wed have stayed for dessert and would be back, but as is well stick with Cafe Jaunita or Serafina.

Very nice place with lots of options. Since my wife is vegetarian sometimes it becomes hard to spot vegetarian options. Volterra have separate vegetarian menu which was very helpful. Over all we loved their food and flavor. Specially pesto pasta and grilled prawn. I will give 5* for services. This is kind of place where you want to go more than once.
