Sushi quality is very good. They don’t do fancy rolls so don’t expect cooked sushi, cream cheese or other non-traditional ingredients. What they do have they do well. Soft shell crab was so-so. A bit pricey but highly recommend.

We went on a friday afternoon around 12:30 and got a table immediately for 2. Staff were very courteous and had smiling faces. We decided to go since I was told this is one of the authentic places for Sushi in the area. Offered steaming hot tea after we were seated. We ordered the potstickers (slightly burnt more than usual) which was good. Our orders were Katsu don (with pork) and the cooked shrimp sushi. This is one of the best Miso I have tasted. I wanted to go for more Sushi as that plate wasn't sufficient but my wife couldn't finish her bowl of Katsu don. Did Not try any desserts. The tea kept coming even after we were done. I didn't like the sushi much, maybe that's how the authentic ones taste??!!! I might come again to try something else for sure.

Second time at this place and it never disappoints! I just had to order the Tofu Sukiyaki again, and it was just as incredible as I remembered. The tofu and taste was absolutely perfect. From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel like regulars. Our server was so friendly and helpful, offering great suggestions from the menu. This place has officially earned a spot on my 'must-visit' list."

horrible poisonous restaurant!!!!!! My husband ate fried pork cutlet and sushi at this restaurant. Within one hour, he started feeling nauseous and dizzy. After five hours, he developed a high fever, shivering, fatigue, and difficulty breathing. Around twelve hours later, he began experiencing abdominal pain and diarrhea. We believe it was food poisoning from the products at this restaurant.

Inconsistent preparation and quality of the sashimi. Some pieces were a bit off and others slices absurdly thin for an order of sashimi. The hand roll was ill prepared and the ingredients were out of balance. Ambiance and service was excellent.

Izumi is on my list to take every relative, friend, coworker, to have great Japanese food. Tonight we took my parents and uncles and they were all very impressed by the presentation and quality of the food. My aunt, who was recently back from Japan claimed that it was the best sushi and sashimi that she has ever tried. Ever! Congratulations to the entire staff in making us feel welcome and always a joy to be there. I do have to apologize for spilling the tea on my way out. Please let me continue to come to your restaurant 🙏😊

We were excited to come in and eat good sushi but the owner just gave us such a rude vibe that it made me not enjoy the experience. Don t get me wrong, the waiters were courteous and attentive. The owner was just straight up rude My husband arrived first and asked for a seat for 4 and they said they won t seat until all of us arrived. This is totally fine and I totally understand this. But once we arrived, they saw that I had a baby in a baby carrier and the owner kept insisting that we have 5 people instead of 4. I explained to her we don t need a high chair and that the baby will be sleeping the entire time that we re here so we don t need a bigger table or a high chair. She asked multiple times again if we need a fifth chair and I said no. After that, every time she came by she was short with us while she was courteous to other customers and also smiled to other tables. Because we technically had 5, she charged the automatic gratuity for parties of 5 or over. Which is a loss for them because my husband and I usually tip double tax, but the automatic gratuity was before tax. Go for the food, don t bring babies.

Izumi is NO JOKE!! If you want an authentic Japanese food experience, this gets really really close. Ive been living in Japan for 3 years and came back to visit my family on the Eastside. A connoisseur friend of mine suggested this place when I asked for a legit sushi restaurant since my brother requested sushi for his birthday and I didnt want to go somewhere that would be a let down. Everything on the menu is extremely similar to what I can find in Japan, especially things like Curry Udon, Tonkatsu, Sukiyaki, Agedashi Tofu, Sashimi and (Nigiri) Sushi. Our main servers mannerisms, kindness, and attentiveness in serving was also very similar to what I experience in Japan. The food was fantastic, truly high quality, and very similar to the tastes of real Japan. As recommended to me, I waited outside 10 minutes before dinner time open (around 4:50 pm on a Thursday) and there was already a line. I think Izumi is wonderful and worth every dollar!!!

We have loved this restaurant for close to 34 years now. Food is always consistent, prices are climbing but that is everywhere. Its sad that the elders have passed and we miss their spirit in the restaurant but there are new people that we can get to know. Yesterday I went in for lunch and met a granddaughter of Uncle, the grumpy manager who recently passed. I never saw him grumpy and he was so sweet to my children. They remember him fondly. She said that everyone thought he was grumpy but he wasnt to us. On Friday, I always order the teriyaki salmon and it just makes me happy. My best memories are in that restaurant.

Be careful of the bill. I put 10 dollars as tips and they charged me 20 dollars. I couldn t believe they tried to charge 30% for tips.

Izumi Sushi in Kirkland was on our must-try list for a while, but their hours often didnt align with our schedule. Located in a small mall area near the Totem Lake area and I-405 exit, the restaurant offers plenty of free parking spots. We walked in and were seated right away without a wait. The decor exudes a Japanese vibe, with tables available for both small and larger groups. The food preparation took a bit longer than expected for a sushi restaurant. Our main reason for visiting was to try the cold soba noodle (tenzaru soba), which we had never had in an authentic restaurant setting. The noodle texture was excellent, and the dipping sauce was perfectly balanced. The tempura was hot and crispy, pairing well with the cold noodles. We also sampled a few sushi dishes, but they didnt stand out compared to other restaurants in the same price range. Overall, it was a pleasant experience. While their sushi may not be exceptional, Izumi Sushi is one of the few places in the area that serves cold soba, making it worth a visit if youre a fan of that dish. Just be sure to check their hours before heading out.

Been customer since 1980s. Always had perfect food and service. Today I went for lunch about 1:10p. Didnt know they closed at 1:30p. Got sat at small table near door with another small table next to me. Service was pushy, fast and food was practically dropped down. Man came and sat down at nearby table and was also rushed. Female manager came over and without asking me if I was finished using it, took my jar of soy sauce and dropped it at mans table. She got back to her stand and had a bit of a smirky smile looking at me. Waitress came over like I was done and barely asked me if I was done eating. NO I wasnt. Bill appeared, I was so irritated by the attitude. I left a smaller tip than I would have normally. This current regime of management would Never have been allowed to act in this manner in previous years. Food was also of a lesser quality and Izumis was always a place I depended on and recommended. Gravely disappointed.

After a long while, we ate at Izumi. Lots of changes from the Izumi we used to know. Orders are placed on a paper menu, clutter round the sushi bar. People are still super friendly and welcoming. The most noticeable change- pricing!! Two VEGETABLE tempura dinners ($26.50 each! )and two vegetable rolls totaled $66 before TAX. WOW! The quality of the tempura also was noticeably different- very oily.

Heyo from San Francisco. I didn t know a lot of sushi restaurants are closed on Tuesdays in Eastside. We chose this one since it s convenient for both of us to get to. I was feeling a bit iffy reading some of the horror stories of takeouts. Sushi should hold up better in takeouts than other food. We ended up having a good experience. They didn t kick us out despite my friend eating up till closing. The workers are actually Japanese, which is a big plus. A lot of Japanese restaurants these day are run by Chineses and Koreans. It s really hard to find restaurants run by Japanese so y all have something good going on here. I ordered their omakase. The lady offered to explain each nigiri but I declined. I highly recommend you to go through the pieces with them if you do choose the omakase. I was hoping for uni (sea urchin) so that was a little disappointing. I still enjoyed every single piece. I was surprised at the amount of fish they have per nigiri. Flavors was there. The freshness wasn t a concern either so you re safe if you avoid takeouts. My friend ordered their chirashi bowl with ikura. They have option for tobiko as well. I like the overall presentation. The cuts of fish look appealing too. He really enjoyed the mushroom they added in. He wasn t expecting that at all. Anyway I d say this could be one of the better options in the Eastside. I ve only been here for a few days but I m definitely down to try all these other options in Eastside. I have high hopes moving forward.

I personally recommend Hoso-maki (thin-roll) with Oshinko (pickles), Negihama (yellow-tail with green onion) and Ume-shiso (pickles and Japanese basil), the rolls are really like eating in Japan.

Just be patient here (especially if you are on a wait list) and enjoy the traditional setting we had the gyoza which is very flavorful filling.. we split a tonkatsu dish and I got a side hand roll which was very delicious. Last we tried the coffee jello! What a delicious experience.. try it its fun:)

BTW we are a group of 3. 2 half-full 11 years and an adult who all don t eat much. So we ordered a 15$ tempura with only 7 pieces. The first time we got sweet potato but the second we got carrot. The string bean and the tempura skin fell off. Both our squash and carrot was undercooked. All in all would not com again. Portions were small, over priced, and we will not be coming back again.

Very good yet Un-Americanized Japanese restaurant. Though it may appears to be a mediocre teriyaki place, yet it is actually more authentic than most of the places I have been to around Seattle area, for example, the Japanese restaurant near main st in Bellevue, or , or some ramen place in Bellevue square. It is not like high-end edomae places like Shiro s or Sushi kashiba, yet in terms of authenticity and atmosphere, this place is of the same level with the other two. They may offer Hamachi Kama if you ask for it, though it is not on the menu. The teriyaki chicken is simply of a different level from what you would in a random teriyaki place, for which some people may found it unexpected. The curry udon is so good that I would sip all of the creamy savory curry broth, and I wish if they add a curry rice or curry katsu don on the menu. For the sushi/sashimi part, there are few of those fancy rolls, which you can find a lot at any revolving sushi bar. Instead, they offer a well-tailored selection of different parts of fishes. Yet, I don t have a lot of experiences with sashimi; so, I can only say that I do enjoy the texture and taste of it. Will add some pictures upon my next visit. Also, it is very busy around dinner time, meaning that you can expect to wait for about 20mins or so to be seated. My advice is to get there early for a smoother experience, like 5:00 or 5:30.

9/30/23 - We had dinner at the restaurant. The sashimi dinner, spicy tuna roll and saba noodles with tempura was so good. The service was good too. The atmosphere was okay. The restaurant is small and tight. They need to remodel. The carpet, tables, walls, bathrooms, everything looks old and needs replacing. Get ready to spend money but I understand good sushi is worth it. 1/31/23 - Mix feelings about this restaurant. Their sashimi and tempura are good. Customer service eating at the restaurant is good as well. Last night I attempted to place a take-out order since I wasnt feeling my best and I was placed on hold and forgotten/ignored. I could hear the waitstaff talking and laughing near the phone but still no one picked up! I was ready to spend $100-200. I held for 15 minutes before hanging up. I called again three more times, the phone rang but no answer. In the end, I placed a take-out order at Umigawa Sushi where I received excellent customer service and great sashimi. Very unhappy with Izumi! Izumi, take your phone number off your website if you dont want your customers to call the restaurant! I doubt the owner or manager even read these post because in the end they only care about the mighty dollar and not people.

Our entire family (with 2, 3 and 8 year old were having dinner) and the old lady wearing kimono kept staring at us and coming to our table to tell us to sit down (some of us had to stand and grab what kiddos need from a bag). All of our family members were unhappy with her service. Plus, the food is over priced.

Caution! This restaurant will modify your tips without your consent! Update: I open my bank app today and found out the restaurant did modify my tip amount without my consent and I am currently disputing it. IMO tips depends on the customer s will and how good the service is. I love the food but the service is not that good. For example, my friends and I feel the waitress is giving us pressure to leave. We gave about $27 dollars in the end. We are a total of four people and the old lady stopped us from leaving and tell us the tip is unacceptable and we should pay more (we paid 15%, and the old lady said at least 18%) and told me to be careful . I admit that I didn t give a lot of tips last time because I gave what I think the service worth. But at the end she even tried to modify my last tip, which I think is ridiculous and unacceptable.

We had an incredible meal at Izumi. Experience, food, and ambiance were much better than any of the other high-end sushi spots around here. Their food is fresh and authentic and I appreciate that they don t overdo it on speciality rolls like most places. It means the sushi is simple and high quality, putting the focus on the fish. Like other reviews said, the portions of fish on their sashimi and nigiri are really large (two bites). The service was great - it s different than most sushi restaurants, but we had a positive experience. I can understand why this restaurant has been around for almost 40 years and we will absolutely return.

A good local spot for some good quality sushi. The ikura isn t my favorite when compared to other sushi spots. The chutoro is delicious! The staff are friendly and helpful. Make sure to arrive before the dinner rush otherwise you ll need to wait. Can get a bit expensive if ordering individual nigiri portions. Opt for their specials to help save money.

A classic feel and a cozy experience. While we always get sushi, the sukiyaki is delicious, especially on a cool crisp day.

As we were just seated, our newborn started crying and we were comforting her. We were quickly told by one of the waitresses that this is a restaurant and kids need to keep quiet. We used to be a huge fan of this place, but we left immediately and wont be back or order to-go anymore, as we know our kids arent welcomed here.

I would never come again. Before my visit, I had high expectation to Izumi, as I worked in Japan and I missed izakaya a lot. When I heard Izumi is run by Japanese and read so many good comments, I thought it s the right place to go, but the experience was VERY unhappy. We waited at the table for at least 5 minutes without anyone taking care of us(though the staff walked around, they seemed so busy to stop by for a second and even avoided our eye contact). Asahi is product of Italy (so why I spent $13 dollars if I could get much cheaper one from grocery?) The bendo box looked completely not worth for $40, the quality was not good and very small amount. I missed tako wasa a lot (very simple appetizer in Japanese izakaya), but izumi don t have it and this tako was kind of ridiculous. Spicy tuna rolls are sooooo tiny and I don t understand why they use nori, which completely covered tuna s taste. Very disappointing and definitely not worth money. Will never go again and will never recommend to my friends

The service was not good at all, the food was quite pricey ($20 for a meal), and I became incredibly sick after a few bites of the food I got.

We have been coming here for about 8 years since it was recommended by some Japanese coworkers as authentic. Sushi is my family s favorite type of food and we love to splurge while here. Typically we order tea, house hot sake, tempura, nabeyaki udon and a variety of sushi. All of the food is excellent. My favorite visit was with my daughter when the sushi chef made us a tiny tamago nigiri. It was about the size of my pinky fingernail and was nestled between all the other nigiri so when we finally uncovered it, we were surprised and delighted! So sweet and fun. You can tell it is a family business and every time I go in it s the same two chefs, so you can count on the quality and presentation to be consistently high. It s our favorite restaurant and I highly recommend it.

TLDR: They DECEIVED Customers. If you order sashimi omakase, count the amount of fish you ordered before eating. They lied on the amount of pieces of sashimi and made up the number in front of you, and told you: don t worry . Basically we ordered sashimi omakase 12 pc(1 cut in 2 based on the grandma s explanations. So 6/7 types only, while sushi omakase has double amount of types with the same price) but we only have 11. The grandma just counted in front of us till 11, and then, she pointed to the air above the top right of the plate saying 12 . We asked wait a minute, where is the 12 ? She just answered: don t worry and leave Help me find the 12 which she explained looool. My next step will be reporting this restaurant.

Then after all of us was here, no one come to lead us to the table. It was another 5min wait, finally someone came and told us there was no table. Totally disappointed by the service.

Food is decent but wait times are long and if you want to order ahead for pick up they simply ignore their phones. $40 for a plate of sashimi is on the pricy side but their fish isnt really worth the price. We each had sashimi with a combo and also ordered a large sashimi on the side. The fish was the same with two extra types fish. The salmon sashimi tasted fishy in the large platter and was worst than the sashimi in the combo. Our take out experience was not great. Just wanted one sashimi platter. We tried called the whole time we drove there 20 min drive and they said wait for one sashimi platter was 45 mins.

We came here because of the high reviews, but unfortunately this was not the experience for us and I am completely confused as to what we missed? Maybe we ordered the wrong items? There were 4 of us, two adults and two kids. Our one daughter loves sushi and the other is a picky eater, so heads up to parents - there is no kid menu or much that is kid friendly other than white rice and miso soup. We ordered several maki rolls, the curry udon soup and hamachi sashimi. The curry udon was different, just broth, meat and noodles. If you like curry you will probably like this dish. A little spicy, about a 2. The fish quality was good, but the rolls are tiny. TINY. And the ones that weren t tiny were almost all rice. Very underwhelmed and left hungry after spending $120. The service was slow, we had to flag down the server for everything. The people next to us had bento boxes, those looked good, but they are pricey at $52. It s a tiny place and was on a major wait when we left. Glad we experienced a dinner here but won t return. For us, it just wasn t a pleasant experience, just mediocre at best.

This Japanese restaurant is one of the best i have ever tried. The customer service was incredibly amazing. The food was delivered perfectly, Apitzerrs then our main dish and then desert. I am removing 2 stars away because the old lady rush to give the bill out and as a fine dining that doesnt seem to be acceptable at all.the reciept was over 150$ for 2 people But the food was pretty good and I am sushi lover and I can definitely recommend this location. But the bill and the way they try to rush customers out are disrespectful.

I didn t want give the rating but I had to rate them. So I picked the three stars. I wanted to read the comments before I go this Japanese restaurant as I do always. After I read all comments, my conclusion is that this place has good Japanese foods, but too expensive. If you have no issue with money, then go for it. But for myself I have to spend at least $200 or more and $250 with couple drinks. I am wondering why they charge too much. Supply and demand? These days people think that the higher price the better product. My friend recommended this place and warned me the high price. Now I see why he said that. I am still thinking .

Best sushi on the Eastside. Always perfectly fresh, always beautifully sliced. These chefs know what theyre doing. And theyve been doing it forever. They stick to a traditional menu -- none of this jalapeno and cream cheese nonsense, with 50 different ridiculous rolls. They celebrate the beauty of the ingredients and respect tradition. The end result is exquisite.

Ah....Im shocked. The sushi here was really good, so I went there even though it was expensive... but this time I went, maybe because of the cost of ingredients, they didnt use sushi rice, so it wasnt very tasty. It seemed like the rice wasnt even seasoned at all. If nothing else, rice is the most important thing in sushi. I think I will have to go again when the coronavirus is over.

In this day and age, they have to get their website in order. It would have been much better customer handling to tell that a limited menu would be available and still offer to seat us for a rush service. Will have to explore more venues.

Had dinner here on Wednesday. Felt the meat was not fresh but didn t pay too much attention on it, since the waitresses are nice and the food seems fancy. Had acute gastroenteritis 3 hours later and vomited twice until nothing to vomit out until 12:00 AM. Eat nothing but bland foods last two days. Though I like the place, I suggest the manager to be careful about the food safety and don t use the spoiled meat, please. Spent $100+ for two person, two combo.
