215 Highland Rd W, Kitchener, ON N2M 3C1, Canada
Classic menu of assorted vegetarian & meat dishes, all served with injera (sourdough flatbread).
Tried ethiopian food for the first time. Really enjoyed the food and the ambiance. The staff was too friendly and helpful. Highly recommendable.
Best Ethiopian food I've had in the region. Amazing hospitality and service as well.
Our evening at the restaurant was fantastic from start to finish. As soon as we walked in, we felt welcomed by the cozy atmosphere. Opting for the platter for two turned out to be a brilliant decision as it allowed us to indulge in a variety of mouthwatering dishes. Throughout our meal, the staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, adding to the overall enjoyment of the experience. Despite it being a busy Friday night, the restaurant managed the crowd well, ensuring that we didn't feel cramped or rushed. Additionally, the service was impressively quick, with our food arriving promptly after ordering. Overall, it was a memorable dining experience that left us eager to return for more culinary delights.
Came here for dinner and the food was so so delicious. Everything smells so good. Lighting and interior are also very nice. Totally rec for a little date night spot or a place to eat with friends & family 😁 I would recommend the adventure platter for two or three people, gives you lots of food to take home (unless you’re REALLY hungry).
First Ethiopian restaurant visit of mine, it is very close to Indian tastes but vastly different as well in the spice levels (this is on the lower side). We tried 5 vegetarian dishes with Injar and rice. I would prefer the rice than the sour dough bread (Indian version of Raagi dosa). The curries are unique, have distinct flavor. The coffee festival is unique, when the person bough the coffee beans the aroma felt very nice. They even placed a nice dhoop stick (Indian version of Sambrani Dhoop) next to coffee. The only downside is there is no milk with the coffee, so we could not drink much. Overall a nice onetime try restaurant not for me as a South Indian vegetarian, who love his spices and coffee with Milk.
I really enjoyed the food. I’ve picked up takeout food here a few times now. Great for vegetarians or meat eaters, healthy, and delicious. I found the price for value a little high, which is the only reason I’m not giving 5 stars.
We love Ethopian food! We tried the adventure combo which comes with three types of meat and a choice of five veggies/lentils including injera. The food was very fresh but I found the veggies lacking a little flavour. Service was amazing and extremely courteous staff. Right now the whole place has tarp so do call ahead and ask which entrance to take rather than look and wonder as all look the same from outside. We enjoyed the coffee ceremony too. Loved the decor too. They do accept credit cards but regarding parking not easy during peak hours as there are a number of offices/stores etc in this small strip mall.
Good Ethiopian food. Very clean. Friendly service. You will see nice Ethiopian posters and artifacts everywhere. The way they serve food is also interesting! I think one should try it atleast once and see if they like this different taste.
The best Ethiopian in the area! We drive in from Hamilton several times a month to enjoy one of the most flavourful meals around.
Great place for amazing food, definitely worth the trip.
First time trying ethiopian food, we loved it
Ethiopia would be proud. Amazing people, food and worthy of experiencing and enjoying
The demure facade on the outside hides the real gem on the inside! It was as if I am being transported to Ethiopa.. Traditon on every level. Phenomanal on Saturday nights when tradition Ethiopian bands are performing.
I always enjoy dining at Muya Restaurant, and their kitfo is simply to die for! The perfectly seasoned minced beef, blended with Ethiopian spices and served either raw or lightly cooked, never fails to impress. The flavors are rich and authentic, showcasing the best of Ethiopian cuisine. Paired with the restaurant s warm, inviting atmosphere and traditional accompaniments like injera and ayib, it s a meal that transports you straight to Ethiopia. Every visit is a delightful culinary experience!
Good
We love eating here, excellent food, incredible flavours and top class service. Its a luxury to have it so close by!
Very nice atmosphere, service was prompt and kind, and the food was delicious (as well as coffee). This was my first time trying Ethiopian food!
Tried this restaurant for the first time- food was amazing and the coffee was probably some of the best I ve had!
I bought chicken doro wot. That dish is overpriced. For 20 dollar you get two tiny chicken pieces with bone. Total rip off.
The food at Muya is superb and arrives at the table quickly. The service is friendly and casual. The ambient Ethiopian music is great. Excellent, excellent, excellent! PS it was a hot day but it was cool inside.
Absolutely delicious food and the service was wonderful!
Fantastic vegan options at this authentic Ethiopian restaurant. Love love vegan platter. Lots of food for two. There is a spinach dish that I cant get enough of. You should go.
Great authentic food, nice atmosphere! Does not look super inviting from outside but once you enter it is a different world!
We went in for a lunch on Saturday. Great fully vegan platter with lots of lentils, split peas and veggies. We loved the pumpkin soup too. All was amazing. Could not finish it all. Generous portions. We will be back. Vegetarian options: A full vegan menu
Such a great spot to share a meal! Everything was flavourful and done just right.
Did the recipe change? Still amazing but much less flavour than a year ago and injera is less sour.

Habsha store
Amazing variety of great food. The vegetarian platter was delicious and great sharing experience.
Food that look nice and test good.
The quality of food has gotten worse. Used to be a fan of this place. Recently ordered delivery...food was bland and I was disappointed with the quality.
Good place to eat Ethiopian food very delicious me and my husband went for dinner nice people and owner is really good.
Great food and service.. really really good. We absolutely love this place.
Amazing place to have Ethiopian food
The food here is so good! What a hidden gem! The restaurant is small and a bit cold but the food is worth it! Food
Great service everytime. The food is amazing and the portions are a great size. Great place to gather with friends and share a meal.
Great Eritrean food that is made fresh! I love that the injera is now served on the side. This makes heating up left overs a lot easier! My favourite dishes have to the the awaze tibs extra spicy and all the vegan options.
Amazing food! My favourites are the kitfo and the siga wot. The injera is absolutely perfect as well.
Food was average probably because we didn t enjoy Ethiopian food. Decent quantity. Staff were very nice
If you are curious about the Ethiopian culture you must visit!!! Vegetarian options: There is alot of veggie food to choose and super tasty!!! Parking: You park really close to the restaurant Wheelchair accessibility: There is access to wheelchair
We had the menu item called Adventure; chicken, beef, and lamb with several vegetable sides. Flavours had some depth and did not feel like they were Canadianized. The chicken was exceptionally well done, with great texture and moisture, and a good flavour.
Good food, cozy ambience, hooka and coffee! Lovely!
Delicious food, great dine-in and take out experiences. Excellent choices for vegans, vegetarians, and omnivores alike. One of our favourite restaurants!
Excellent food! Look for the back room with the bar in it. Loved the music too.
Phenomenal Food. Adventure Platter is great.
poor management
I am so excited about finding Muya. I ve tried Ethiopian food in Toronto and this was better by far. The food was amazing SO flavourful, great portions, and the service was wonderful. Can t wait to return.
Excellent food! Wont hesitate to go back.
Wonderful collection of flavours Vegetarian options: Veg and vegan options are plentiful and tasty.
This is real authentic Ethiopian food The flavours are phenomenal the special bread that they have called injera. Wow something to definitely come back for this was an amazing experience. I was told by a friend to come and eat here gonna definitely be coming back way to go guys. Amazing food.
Ambience is pretty good. Loved the experience. Service can be slow but worth the wait. If you are new to Ethiopian food, i would recommend trying the big platter. It can be a little too much if you are dining alone. Ideally to be shared with 3-4 friends. Loved everything here. Even the coffee.
The food was fantastic. We shared the Adventure platter so we could sample lots of different flavours. Everything was fresh and delicious. We also enjoyed the tableside coffee roasting. Thank you for a meal to remember!
Tasty and generous!
My wife and I had the vegan full circle dish. It was amazing and flavourful! The place was nice and clean, and the people who served us we re also really nice! Will definitely come back for more!
Experience Ethiopia at its best at this tiny authentic Ethiopian restaurant off Highland road west.
They are very unorganized the customer service is very bad. They treat people very bad. The girl working there is uncultured human being.
The service is BAD. The workers are RUDE. I didn t get the things I ordered. And one of the workers is extremely disrespectful. I hope she get fired,
Food and service were, as always, fantastic. I brought my baby along this time, he eats bits of whatever I do except cant have dairy. I thought some of the things we ordered didnt have dairy but was wrong (my mistake) and was going to just give him a bottle but she made him his own little dairy-free dish! That was very kind and he absolutely LOVED it. We dont eat out too often but its always special to come here. Thank you very much.
Delicious vegan food. Good service and affordable. Would definitely return.
Wonderful tasty full-circle vegan combo. It was plenty for 3 hungry people. We also ordered the Ethiopian coffee experience which was also delicious. I d definitely come back
Fantastic place, amazing food and coffee.
The vegan Ethiopian food was very delicious. The Coffee was the best I had in Canada.the Servers were extremely helpful and polite. Great restaurant, original.
Very tasty Ethiopian food. Quantity is enough for two
Had a very bad experience as they lied to me. I had called this restaurant spoke to a female asked her if it was halal. She said yes everything halal. I ordered food went to pick up spoke with the guy who gave me the food and charged me I asked again its halal.he was like yes everything here is halal..and today I got a message from their messenger saying the dont have halal.but have the veg options.they have lying staff just for like $40.shame on you.. And the food is so oily and salty. I DONT RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT..
This place is awesome! The coffee is superb! Dietary restrictions: Vegan options! Food : 5/5 |
The beef tibs is awesome. I asked for extra spicy. The bread was a little strange to a westerner, but it was good and soaks up the tibs gravy. Coffee ceremony was awesome.
Their vegan options are amazing! Definitely our place to eat in town!
I have been to this restaurant multiple times and I liked their food and services. Keep up the good work.
I hate the lady serving. She is not doing the same before, after Tigray and Eritrean fighting. But the owner is so nice
One of the best restaurants in town
Great food authentic to taste. We ordered the Vegetarian combo 2. Plenty of food to feed all 3 of us. Vegetarian options: Many options to choose from. Dietary restrictions: Vegan, vegetarian and meat options. Parking: Plenty of free parking.
What a wonderful experience. Our first time trying Ethiopian food and it was delicious. Our waiter was patient and kind and easy to get along with and knowledgeable, I had the platter with 1 meat and 3 vegetable choices and everything was so flavorful and freshly made and presented lovely, just wish I remembered to take a picture! Cant wait to go back again.
Delicious authentic Ethiopian food...loved it...will be back..the service was nice and the waitress was friendly and helpful.
Great food
The food was delicious and flavourful! However the server was quite preoccupied and it took about 30 minutes for us to be able to pay for our bill after we finished. I would recommend trying this place out!
Its great place to test Ethiopian variety of foods
I get good food and service great full
The food is good, the service is less so. Our last 3 orders had something left out of them. One was pickup and I was able to correct it, the other two were through Skip, and you can compare the receipt in Skip to the paper one they write by hand and stick on the bag and they dont match. I fully cant trust them to get an order right anymore.
The food here is so delicious! And the service is awesome. Would highly recommend the doro wot!
I had a wonderful visit, from start to finish. The service was friendly and attentive, and the food was delicious. I highly recommend treating yourself to the coffee ceremony to complete your meal, as it highlights the reverence and care that goes into preparing this delightful experience.
Good family friendly restaurant
One of the best restaurants in kw, the people here are so kind and gracious. The food is unbelievable, I can eat the whole platter on my own. Everything came out hot and flavourful, the injera is tender and chewy. I can t wait to visit again!
The older KW and London locations are larger and have better food selections.
Got no complaints... Food was delicious and quantity was more than enough. I wish more people would know about this gem!
One of the few authentic Ethiopian restaurants In Town. The potions are huge and the items are delicious. The customer service and the overall ambience was also nothing short of great. For people who like Indian cuisine Ethiopian Injera is a must try. We will definitely go back here.
Never have I been all shocked by the quality of the food, the quantity, and the low price. I get the mixed platter every time and have leftovers. Delicious. Different. Competitive. A must try.
very bad customer service, discriminate people specially the waiter is not polite and very very dirt tables and chair with short of staff. First thank you for your response. I just want to tell you, when I entered your place ,I waited more than 20 min and no one showed up to give me a seat and I am not a new customer and I know well these things happen often as you mention above as you are under staffed and specifically at that time, there was one table unattended and we eated. And after long wait again the only waitress you have with rude behavior and bad attitude showed up and not even try to clean the table and greet us. last but not least I hope you fix these issue soon because cleanliness of seats, dining tables, and respect of customers time is very important. thank you.
The tibs is so good. Yabde tibs new lol
I am so disappointed!!! I ordered take out for 3 people and didnt even get enough food for 1 person. The containers were half empty with 2 drumsticks for meat and a little bit of watered down beef. The vegetables came in small styrofoam containers. I paid $ 50 for the pleasure of starving to death, literally! I called the restaurant and they kept hanging up. When I drove back to talk to the man about it, I got a sorry with a silly smile but no food or refund! I wouldnt even give this meal 1 star but it is not possible to give none! Do not go to this restaurant!
The food was soo good
Have been to this place several times since 2018 and the experience has been consistently good in terms of quality of food and service.
I love Eritrean and Ethiopian foods. that is why I use to enjoy Moya restaurant and other same restaurants. it is fresh meat, homemade bread or Engera is gluten free.
I always order or pick up combo 5 or 3 of veggies with injera and every single time the vegetables that come in the small styrofoam cups are never ever full. They are either half or a little bit less than half full... This makes the experience less enjoyable because after take 1-2 scoops out of one vegetable cup its pretty much done. I wish they could really fix this, I have been ordering take out from this restaurant for quite some time and have also been in store to pick up. The food taste amazing and is great which is why I have ordered frequently in the past
Awesome food ! Definitely recommend !
Ordered Muya Adventure which is described as plenty for 2-3 people. Paid over $50 dollars for four little styrofoam containers of food. Not even enough to feed one person. Also ordered Lamb Tibs for $20 and came with the container half full and missing rice and salad.
THE PORTIONS ARE SO SMALL!! We ordered the muya ultimate combo which is described as plenty for 2-3 people . When we got our order we thought maybe they forgot something because there s barely any food. Keep in mind we re a group of petite women and none of us eat much at all, but even then this combo could maybe just fill one person, at best just enough for two to not go hungry. For the price we paid we expected to at least not go hungry since it s the same price per person at most typical restaurants. Super disappointed and will not be ordering again.
Good price and authentic Ethiopian food. I especially liked the Kitfo. Awesome customer service
Food is good but service is very slow. I am not sure if it was because of Sunday evening or something but it took an hour for our food to come out.
Ordered 70 dollars worth of food, it was for 4 ppl. We only fed 1-2 people, and they weren t completely full. The food portion is atrocious, not to mention it was average tasting.
Terribly over priced for the portion size you get. We ordered two Meat combo #1 plus two meat dishes on the side and 2 chickpea dumplings, for a total of $100 with skip the dishes fees and all. We were missing one meat dish, the chickpea dumplings had a scorched taste to them, and for $15-20 a dish, the portions were BRUTAL!! small Styrofoam containers only filled half way, most of them legit didnt even feel like it had food in them. This is my first and my last time ordering from here. I was so disappointed.
Adventure platter is delicious. Doro Wot, lamb tibs, veggie sides are all great. Whoever gave the negative reviews recently about the adventure platter is ridiculous and ignorant
Everything was perfect and fresh
Food not that tasty. Vegetarian options: Vegan food
I tried it. Several dishes amongst a group. Nice service and atmosphere. Im just not a big fan of African/Eritrean food.
We ordered the Combo dish for my partner and I, it said it was stated to be a dish for 2-3 people. We are fairly big eaters and I can say without a doubt, this is at least a meal and a half for us. The portions were generous, the taste was amazing, and seemed authentic enough cuisine - extremely satisfied and will be ordering again. When we set out to get dinner tonight, we initially planned on getting Chinese food, Im so happy we decided to go for something new. I feel this was a great meal for someone that wants to give Ethiopian (?) cuisine a shot, but had no idea what to get. 10/10 NO Complaints at all.
Amazing food just need to fix the door it s cold outside
Food is great, amazing flavour and great vegan options Vegetarian options: Great vegan dishes and combos Food : 5/5 |
Very tasty. Especially good for vegetarians. Really liked the injera (bread) and sauce as well as the beef dish. Construction is going on so when its over this will be an even better spot.
The waiter lady is very rude she doesnt know how to serve the customer. If the manager see my comment the lady who serve the customer will damage your business if you dont watch her. Unbelievable
If there is zero star I will give this place, especially the lady who serve the customer. Bad bad bad bad bad
Dont go this place horror people, she always angry with no matter, and the food is not fresh
I ordered the veggie combo, mild. You pick the various side dishes which are served on injera, made from leavened teff flour. I had five different side dishes all made with their special Ethiopian spices. Eg. Shimbra Asa, chickpea dumpling sauteed in a red onion and berber. stew You scoop the food up with the injera. unique & tasty
Delicious! Will be back.
An excellent Ethiopian restaurant. The food is consistently delicious. Wide variety of vegetarian dishes. For meat lovers, their kitfo (rare beef) is fantastic. A hidden gem.
Ive eaten here many times including recently and its always unbelievably delicious. And incredible value. I could eat this every day for the rest of my life.
Incredible food! Such unique flavours, lots of vegetarian and vegan options, but the meat dishes are excellent too! We do not live in Kitchener but we happily drive 30 minutes to enjoy this amazing food! Portion sizes are good, great value. Must try!!
Delicious food clean hygiene but little delay going on service
Very good food and very reasonably priced. The vegetarian options have plenty of flavour (the misir key wot was my favourite), and the combo is very filling. Definitely look forward to going back.
Fine Ethiopian cuisine, and they did a great job of packaging it for takeout.
Best vegetaterian options for Ethiopian food Ive ever had. I come from out of region for it.
Very nice place from the service to the food. It feels like youre back home.
Very good Ethiopian food
Great customer service
I have tried almost every meat and vege options here. I honestly only order Beef Alicha kilkil (not spicy), spinach and gomen now. All the other veges are either not cooked enough to my liking or lacking flavors. The other meat options are okay but I find them all to be a bit too spicy for me or not cooked long enough.
I love their food!
So good, and great value. And the renovations look great!
Absolutely amazing! There were so many vegetarian options and a single dish can last 3+ meals! Great value and fantastic taste. Ill definitely order it again! Only con: makes you hella gassy. But honestly its worth it.
A must try! Ordered their veggie combos with the injera bread - wonderfully fresh and spiced! Highly recommend!
Best injera ever
Excellent, Good food, trying the cuisine for first time, loved it..the ambience looked good too..
I love the flavorful mouth watering dishes that are served at Muya. This restaurant is one of my favorite places to eat.
Vegan platter is delicious. One of our favourite restaurants in KW.
Absolutely incredible! Some of the yummiest food I ve had in my life! Kind staff, beautiful restaurant, and amazing food!
Good food and Healthy
Fantastic food and friendly service
Great Ethiopian food, spices, Ingera and more.
Amazing food!!! So much flavour, so fresh.
Great food and great value. Thank you! The app didnt make tipping an obvious part of the ordering process, and I forgot when I picked up. I owe you guys!
Very fresh and tasty food!
It is best resturant from Ethiopian Eritrean traditional food in kitchiner
This is it s not real restaurant unprofessional
Great calming atmosphere and very kind service. Food was amazing! I am vegan and was impressed by all the options. Definitely coming back :)
I have never seen a hair inside food until I order from this restaurant today the injera has tuft of hair inside they need to consider Cleanliness
Great food.
Good food and good service
This place ranks towards the top of my visited Ethiopian restaurants in Canada. Typical Ethiopian fare. Some of the food is spicy and some are not. Food is usually served on a big injera bread that is shared by all on the table. The service at this place could be a bit faster.
I love this place. The vegetarian platter is delicious every time. Sometimes it takes a while for the food to arrive but it s always worth the wait.
One of my favourite places to eat in Waterloo region. The food is fresh. The vegetarian and vegan options are great. Its absolutely delicious!
I love the atmosphere of this place, theirs always a good mix of customers, and the service is good, sometimes theirs a bit of a language barrier, but we have always been able to figure it out. Honestly this is my favorite place to eat in kw. Really great food, you can taste the love they put in to their dishes. If youre looking for something new to you and you havent tried the delicious delights of Ethiopian cuisine, then I strongly recommend you try this place. It is a wonderful experience. Now, go get it!
This was the best restaurant i have ever been to. great service great food and great prices
Amazing food definitely a go to for healthy awesome food at great prices!
Delicious flavours and friendly service. Spicy lamb was great.
Hands down the best Ethiopian restaurant in Waterloo Region! Great cultural decor, music, and atmosphere, and of course, super delicious food! Mostly savoury rather than spicy. Any of the tibs dishes are to die for! Highly recommended!
Good ambience, nice flair of music and the lentils and chicken were cooked good. Cons- Lamb was not cooked up to the mark was rubbery. Beans omg oh my beans they were as if just tossed for a second in the pan and removed it i could chew it. Service was om point no issues with that! Social distancing (hmmmm! Need check on that front again)
Great food! Call the day before and they can make gluten free injera for you.
1 star for a poor customer service! Need to improve
Food is delicious
Fabulous food.Good ambience and excellent prompt service.Keep it up.
Awesome food. Great prices.
Delicious, inexpensive food. Ample parking. First time there we ate inside. Second time we worried about coronavirus, so we went to the nearby Victoria Park (5min drive) and ate there. There is a 24 space parking lot off Park St/Jubilee Dr and multiple benches on that side of the park. Also public toilets.
Must try. Many unique dishes and options for vegan diets. The spice mixture was fantastic on many of the dishes. The sponge bread is great tasting and very filling. I would highly recommend the Ethiopian coffee to finish the meal. Portion size is great. Service was a little slow and they did not explain everything, that I would expect (conserving we let them know it was our first time there). Regardless of the service, the meal and value still makes it a 5 out of 5.
Amazing food! Muya restaurant is very testy when you get it delivered but is absolutely mouth watering when you dine-in. You cant go wrong with whatever you order but I recommend the tekel gomen, misir key wot and gomen.
