Fish and Chips restaurant
I finally tried this place after years of wondering, and for a time being it seemed like it was closed. We had halibut - it was delicious and affordable, and the service was super fast. Definitely my new go-to for halibut and chips
Goodbye fast food lunches, hello fish and chips! This is a great little place. You can't beat their lunch special. 10 bucks for two pieces. Nice and crispy with all the fixings. Kind, friendly and quick service. Try it out!
Awesome hole in the wall shop. The owner said they have the lease until at least the end of 2025 but who knows what happens after. Get here before the condos take over!
I usually never write reviews as it’s not really my thing, but this fish and chips shop was beyond my expectations. I came there hungry and left full and extremely satisfied. The food was beyond delicious—perfectly crunchy and not too oily, with a light and airy batter. The service was amazing, and I couldn’t have asked for more. I will definitely be coming back.
I have been meaning to stop here for years but never got around to it. Prices have gone up a little in the past 3-5 years and the $16.99 for the 2 piece Halibut & Chips was reasonable. I decided to tackle the fish first and toss a few fries, so the photo doesn't really show how much fries you get which is a lot. Both were very tasty and on a day where there are long line-ups for fish, the service was very fast! I definitely will be back again for more!
Really great Fish and chips, The fish to me is not too oily but also really crispy on the outside and that’s really good! The chips ( french fries) are a more soft kind of chips and I liked it ( I really love eating french fries so to me it’s One of the great french fries. Then I use tomato ketchup and tartar sauce (I also dipped it in vinegar but the vinegar I use is the one from my house not the one from their restaurant )
Fast and fresh seafood for insanely good prices. The dining room is cozy with limited seating, but their to-go service is just as speedy as sit-down. My husband got the fried cod (they offer 3 different kinds of fish) and I ordered the shrimp and chips. Parking is also a bit limited, but you shouldn't have too much trouble finding walkable parking nearby.
Fish is tasty with a good serving size of chips. The owner is very friendly too. Their menu ranges from shrimp, scqllop and 4 different types of fish. They also have a lunch special from the time they open until 2pm!
Fish and fries were good. Their large coleslaw was about one cup and they charged us $4.50 for it, and in no way is it actually correctly made coleslaw. My wife had to add seasoning for it to be palatable. No vinegar supplied with order and tartar sauce is packaged. I won t be eating here again.
Outstanding Halibut and Chips. Best in the city!
Staff was friendly! Food was delicious would go there again
I don t think this place is open anymore as I went down several times and no one is there. Please correct me if I m wrong.
Service was amazing , very friendly and fast and the fish was absolutely amazing ! Highly recommend
Did not seem as good as previously
Ordered cod and chips but got pollock and chips, so the owner pocketed an extra $4 and lost a customer forever! Violently sick from stomach, a nightmare! Stay awaaay! Food
I allow myself one feed of fish and chips a year. I truly enjoyed this last feed.
Great food friendly staff
Great food. Best fish and chips I think Ive ever had! The owner is lovely too!
Not worth the try
No what I was expecting
Great fish and chips for a good price.
Excellent service and food
Simply hits the spot. If you want no frills, unpretentious fish and chips, thisll do. Picked up 1 pc cod and 1 pc haddock to go for dinner. Service was quick. Fish was flaky and tasty. I really enjoyed the flavour of the haddock. Chips were as expected: nothing more, nothing less! Big portions too.
Left before we ordered was cold inside not very nice
Best mushy peas I have ever had. I will be back again tommorow for mushy peas.
Really great food and prices, definitely one of the better fish and chip restaurants in town!
The fish was over cooked, that it was like eating battered fish scales. Theres better places in the KW area .
The food was phenomenal, and the owner seemed like a great guy. Ill definitely be going back!
Perfectly crisp and always tasty. Great fish options. Bonus: CO2 was 642 with 6 people in the small space, likely due to their industrial range hoods.
If you just want a good-old England-style fish and chips place without the bells and whistles, this is the place to go. It is literally a hole in the wall, and they make excellent. Fish/ shrimp/ chicken tenders and chips. It appears cheaper to call them and order takeout, rather than to order over one of the apps. Parking: That is a free parking lot at the back, but it can be full sometimes.
Best fish & chips!!! Halibut and jumbo shrimps are must tries.
Best fish and chips Ive had ever! Owners super nice. Fish, shrimp and scallops are fresh! Oil is fresh! Great place!
Only had the chips. Would order them well done in the future. Portion was huge.
I was looking forward to a nice halibut and chips. The fries did not seem fresh cut. The fish was small and dry. The staff were friendly though. Eat in area had things pulled in tables and the atmosphere was generally shabby.
Service was quick and friendly. We didnt have to wait long. Haddock and seafood platter was delicious. Price was very reasonable. Food
SO GOOD!
Dont go there!!!!
Very good
Great service Amazing food definitely worth the prices.
I heard the screams of the damned in the bathroom
Best fish and chips I had in this area.
Wheelchair accessibility: Not wheelchair accessible Food
Food was so good!
Havent been here in yrs. Thought it would be a nice switch. Nice place and friendly service but they need to change the greese. It tasted horrible.
We visited this place late fall when it was cold outside so it was also cold inside the restaurant. We pulled the portable heater close to us to keep warm. We were the only the only guests. The fish and chips were greasy. The coleslaw was good though the serving portion was small. The building decor created an old atmosphere.
Best fish & chips in town, hands down. Parking: A small lot but enough to accommodate the load capacity of the building Food : 5/5 |
Awesome food and always friendly, enthusiastic service.
Not a fan of this place.
This was our first time ordering from King Fish and Chips. The best part of the meal was the gravy. We ordered the cod battered fish and the batter was very plain and no taste.
Great fish, great taste and excellent customer service. Food is served quickly.
Wife and I ordered 2x Hallibut and Chips. So good! Have been looking for a nice fish n chips place since I moved here. Owners were friendly and food was made quick. Will be back for sure!
Great spot for some good fish & chips here in KW. Awesome prices, good food, and friendly service. One of my go-to s for take-out.
Very delicious and great prices but a little smaller portions
Food is great.
The best fish and chips in Kitchener. The owner is always cheerful and they delight to interact with.
The best fast food
Always delicious, crispy Fish and chips nice portion sizes. Some of the best Fish and chips in KW!
Best Fish and Chips in town!!
Excellent food, big portions. Fish is excellent, fries are good too. Gravy here is great and makes the perfect addition. They take cash and debit, no credit, so keep that in mind when you go. Edit, 2022: still excellent, still cheap. Youll pay bout as much for a meal as at the Timmies next door but for twice the food and triple the quality.
Ordered the Pollock and Chips for me and 2 peice Halibut and Chips for her. Wondering where the rest of our fish is because ours was so small and thin. Maybe the next customer got the other half. Never going here again.
Love this place. Best in town, no doubt.
Got halibut and chips. 4 small square pieces of fish. And the fries were over cooked. Quality wasnt really worth the money.
Extremely oily but small portions of fish which was served with a sauce gone bad and Old French fries that were refried to make them Look fresh. It was so obvious and left a bad taste in our mouth. Very dirty restaurant, three hours later my entire family has food poisoning. Will never eat at this place again. There are much much better choices for genuine fish and chips in this city.
Its very good fish & chips.
The fish was so good not bad size pieces
Got the Pollock 2 Piece Special delivered for 15$! Great price. Amazing taste too, hits the spot. 5/5.
Best fish & chips in Kitchener
Really tasty fish and chips. Prices arent bad for portion sizes. Would recommend
Very small size fish no salt on fries not going back there are bigger fish in the sea!
Not sure as I didnt check the hours posted and was locked up at 7 pm on a Saturday night who would have thought...
Very disappointed. Fries were hard...fish and shrimp tasted as though they were fried in old tainted oil. We could not eat it. And what we did eat left a bad taste. We will not eat here again.
Not very fancy but good ols school fish and chips when I was a kid they were all like this place good food
Halibut piece is really small. Go with Haddock to get more fish. Jumbo shrimp were over cooked. Doesnt give enough ketchup, tartar sauce or malt vinegar packets. No credit cards allowed. Only cash or debit.
I was a little bit skeptical but decided to give it a try, the fish was well fried and tender, and the ratio of batter to fish was perfect for me, a thin coating. The fries were decent, and the attendant was very courteous. I will return to this location.
The best fish & chips at the east end of Kitchener. Awesome Coleslaw. The Haddock fish is my favorite.
Good food and Friendly staff
Busy place but fast service
The online menu is wrong for starters. By $1.5 for the halibut. not much but lets get it right. The fries are al.ost soggy from all the moisture. The fish . Well come on they are small squares of fish. Dried out . Felt like it was frozen food put in a fryer . Bad experience. Will not be back. Worse 36 bucks ive spent
Well known as the best fish and chips store in KW. It has atmosphere befitting a regular place to buy your fish and chips. Generous servings. Various kinds of fish...nowhere near the variety in some UK fish and chips stores, but as many as I have seen in this part of the country. Not
We t here for lunch and got the 2pc Cod and Chips ($10 lunch special) because my family raves about it. Service was great but it definitely wasn t worth all the rave reviews. Fish portions were relatively small and was about a 6/10 on the scale as well as the chips. Not saying it was bad but I ve had better local fish and chips and Sonny s or Caz s in Cambridge. I personally wouldn t go out of my way to eat here.
Best fish and chips in town
Im writing this from the comfort of my washroom. Havent been able to get off the toilet since eating at King Fish. Seems the fish are running down stream.
Very good food. Friendly people. Set up for take out only at this time
Best Fish and Chips in the Waterloo Region. Awesome value for the buck. Very friendly owners. COVID-19 friendly. Definitely worth checking out.
Total grease pit. Fish was soaking wet in oil as were the fries. Fish was thin and small portioned. We do not recommend.
I used to love the fish but now you get more batter than fish. Not sure if this is a permanent change but 2nd time disappointed, dont think I want to pay to be disappointed again
Very disappointed. The cod was gross. Thin , hard to see the fish. Used to buy from here all the time. Won t be going back.
Fries are always amazing, fish is good but cooked inconsistently visit to visit and sometimes within an order. Good value for the money.
It s especially delicious, paired with tartar sauce. It s a must-have. Uncle Shenyang is very enthusiastic.
Very delicious fish and chips! We got the fried scallops as well, and it was great. Here is a picture of their updated menu.
Great fish, fantastic prices
Very good food
Best Fish and Chips Ive ever had, awesome little place.
Great food at a reasonable price
Awsome.
Not sure what all the high reviews are for. Just had three 2pc cod and chips meals. All three were disgustingly greasy with no actual taste to the food other than the grease. Fries tasted like they were cooked twice. Threw most of it out. First and last time going here.
NOT GOOD. Previous owner had a good reputation for a decent fish and chips. New owner is cutting costs and this reflects in the poor quality of the food. The worst was the oil used for frying ... it was rancid. I threw it all away.
The food was bad in general. It didn t have any salt, probably the worst fish&chips I ve ever had. The fries tasted like they were cooked twice. It was my first and last time going there.
Would not answer phone 30 mins before they close. :(
I ordered the seafood platter it came with a very very tiny piece of fish that they called halibut but it was not I dont know what it was gave me three shrimp four balls of fish of some sort that were terrible and some french fries and they charged me $20 I told the man that was not sufficient and I wanted a refund he refused thought I had to take it home and try to eat it it tasted terrible I took two bites and threw it away this is the worst fish and chip place Ive ever seen in my entire life these guys are nothing but rip-off artist I dont know why they have reviews that are more than one star cuz they dont deserve it dont waste your money the food is garbage
Review of over 3 years ago below things are no longer like they once were with fries greasy mushed stuck all together & fish same. Over 3 years ago: An older friend in his 70s would drive 3 days a week from out of town for fish& chips. The fish and chips are excellent with large portions. Fish arent oily like so many and hot with large portions. Family run business they watch what they are doing carefully compared to fast food restaurants.
Tried to go on a Sunday because Google says theyre open until 7 but got there very hungry and excited for fish and chips only to find out theyre closed Sundays :(
Always good.
Great food and pleasant service. The restroom was very clean as were the tables, however its dark and gave one the impression that its dirty when in fact its not. 2thumbsup! Wed go back!
Best fish and chips in town by far
The owners seem friendly and welcoming however I must emphasize the following: - Good reviews are perplexing/baseless - Food arrived quick but was very bitter and slightly overpriced, tasted like the oil was being reused for too long - Dining area very dirty along with the washroom and also the cups of water provided - Wouldnt recommend going here after dark since theres only 1 light bulb in each fixture, might get too sketchy.
Fyi. Whoever post kings as gluten free is mistaken. It is not.
Great food, Great Price, Great Time! 100% recommend
My go to spot for fish and chips! Yummy!
Yes great fish and chips, great prices, friendly staff, small restaurant.
Havent been there in a few months. Still the best fish and chips all around!
Good value
They had mushy peas and fish was just right.
Service was great. Food tasted like oil. It was like the oil hadnt been changed. Fries were grrose
terrible fries
Fresh and delicious! Not lisenced so no beer with the meal but the price and quality of the food was a above par. Simple decor does not offer much for a romantic dinner but its cozy and if you desire a place to enjoy a conversation with your company this location suits that perfectly. Over all I give it the 4 star for the quality of the food, food portion, and service was great with smiles and attentiveness though out the meal. I will keep coming back as this is a great lunch spot that leaves me feeling full and content
Fish is good. Chips are dried out and terrible.
The best Halibut and chips in Kitchener Waterloo!
Good food
You will not find a more friendly place to have quality food, service and value.
Small mom & pop restaurant with delicious fish and chips. Personal favorite is the Haddock but its all delicious.
Great food. Fair price. Friendly owners
Amazing fish and chips. Awesome owners. My wife and I had the two piece halibut and haddock meals. Very good, perfectly breaded and nice and crispy. Will try the other seafood platter next time looked very good.
I had fish and chips takeout and the fish was hot and crisp and the fries were plentiful, but not as crisp as Id like. I called in advance and arrived at the agreed time but the owner was overly optimistic in his assessment of how long it would take so I waited for another 15+ minutes. The owner is doing too many things at once which is making his COVID precautions less effective - he wears a mask but takes it off to answer the phone, which rang frequently, and he was packing bags but he was in the kitchen so briefly it didnt seem possible he was washing his hands after every time he touched his mask.
Love the fish and service great
I gave 3 stars because the fish is great and the price is great but the fries tasted as though they were pre fried and then fried again.
Great fish dinner. Great value. Not much parking
Good homemade fries and large pieces of fish for cod. Havent tried the rest. Better value than other fish and chip places.
Very good fish and chips I personally order Halibut.. its very tasty Ive been here many times, unlike many others this place doesnt have that grease taste! Also its one of the only places that have Halibut nice thick pieces, Im a 2 piece regular there. As for price if you know fish and chips places Halibut is always more but their fair....
This place has the best fish and chips in Kitchener. I would strongly recommend them to everyone.
The fish reminds me of the gone but not forgotten Rockway Fish and Chips that was a few blocks farther down the road. Their gravy is definitely a highlight of a new perfect plate of Fish and Chips. I usually get the Cod or Haddock. The prices are surprisingly low for the quality and portion size!
Wish they had more places to sit down. Other that great place for food. Really great price. Keep up the great work
Great food, reasonably priced, and friendly service.
Quick service
Food good but no online menu. Will try other fish and chip shops before going back.
Cod when its fresh is really good here
I always have the friendliest server. Its clean and the fish and chips are as good or even better then Rockway use to be.
Best fish and chips I know of
Good solid fish and chips. Got the 2 piece haddock and chips and the food was excellent.
Very well done Fish and Chips. Nice batter, balanced salt and fresh chips. Oils were fresh too. Well done
I always love coming here.. some of the best fish + chips in Waterloo Region.. Thanks guys!!
Service and ordering was quick. Ordered the haddock family pack, onion rings, and a large gravy. Haddock batter was interesting, slightly sweet. Fish was okay, but there was some hard bits that couldnt be chewed in it. Fries were okay, cooked nicely, and crispy. Coleslaw was just diced cabbage, vinegar, and sugar... meh Gravy was the powdered variety, average. Onion rings were tiny and tasted burnt.
Usually really good! Today not so good today! Fast service but Greasy!
Under the new conditions we find ourselves, it is a pleasure to find quality, quickness and hospitality. The fish was fresh and just cooked, fresh French fries. Got the Family Halibut dinner and that was a value meal.
V gud fish n chips and economic price.
Great food and the owner is super friendly!!
Super oily, flavourless, and super bad chips like fried multiple times in a old oil!
flavourless, oily and not satisfying at all
Excellent fish and chips and fast, friendly service!
Good price!! Excellent fish and chips!!
Super crispy and just the right amount of grease.
Excellent food and great Service. Will return any time.
Food was good
Looking at the reviews we decided to give it a try. The staff was friendly. The place smelled very bad like pee and mould. The interior and exterior could really use update / cleaning. The bathroom was very unclean. The food wasn t good at all the fries were oil soaked and not cooked enough onions rings were so over done. The fish we ordered was cod pollock and halibut the portion seemed good but it was not cooked well at all just oil soaked we didn t get any cold slaw with the meals I would not recommend and won t be returning I can t understand how this place has so many good reviews
Great tasting haddock! Fries are not great though.
We arrived 15 min before close. We got the end of the fries. Unimpressive. The portions were generous a and the price,$7.69, was excellent. That was for the Pollock . Cod and haddock are a little more but still reasonable. Even at that price the fish was quite tasty
The food is great, the customer service is horrible. They dont give napkins, forks, and they will rip you off if they can sneak it past you. They dont give receipts and they treat customers differently on appearance.
Fish and chips not to bad
Best fish and chips in kitchener!
Friendly people great food
Good food and good service
Very nice place for fish and chips. The taste is excellent and the price is right . I have tried all fishes there and they all taste amazing. Taken off one star because of little dirty sitting and very bad bathroom. Needs some extra cleaning but Food was soo good.
They are just great. Great food. Good people. A mainstay with my family
Best fish n chips
Good prices and food. A little greasy but, I mean, its deep fried .
Excellent fish and chips! They also do a great poutine
The best fish and chips I ever had.
Great food, great price!
Love this small joint with great fish
Awesome fish and chips!
$$ food is more than ojk
Excellent fish and chips
Great food at a great price. 5 dollars cheaper than McDonalds and twice the food.
Good food good people
Good fish an chips. Chips are a bit on the limp side Would be better if they were crispy
Excellent
Nice little place. Quick service, good prices, very hot food. Ive certainly had better, but not for the price. Batter was decent and crispy, fries were pretty good. Will come again when I want a fast bite of fish n chips
