Genuinely so confused by these 4 star ratings and how this place is still open. We went with a group of friends on a Saturday night. We were one of three groups in the restaurant. They seemed to have way more staff working than patrons and as a result, their staff were bored and really searching for things to do. Our group ordered a number of apps and entrees to share and as we worked our way through, if a server caught a glimpse of what was an empty plate, they would rush over and try to grab it even when there was still food on it (followed by an awkward exchange of oh no, you can still keep working on that ). It got quite annoying by the third attempt. Furthermore, despite the lack of people in the restaurant, it still took about 20 minutes just to get our drinks. Food was ok. Not bad, but nothing to get excited about and as others have said, quite overpriced for the portion size and quality. We ended up leaving and went to eat elsewhere because it was so odd and uncomfortable.

This place was so disappointing. The good reviews are either phony or some kind of mystery. First of all, we ordered all vegetarian dishes so take that for what its worth. This meal made me feel punished for not eating meat, though, by the look of the photos of meat dishes, I didnt miss anything. The spring rolls were mostly hollow with a tiny bit of mushy filling on the inside served with very watery sweet red sauce. The vegetable dumplings were completely flavourless but the dipping sauce was ok. Im glad I had some sauce leftover to pour on the rest of my flavourless food. Bhudda bowl & veg yakisoba had nice firm textured tofu but again, no flavour at all, unless you count the aftertaste of cheap (possibly rancid?) vegetable oil. I cant get the bad oily taste out of my mouth, bleh. On top of all that, portions were small for the steep price you pay. I wouldnt recommend this place to anybody. Vegetarian options: Yes, there are veggie options but they werent very good.

Food was absolutely spectacular. Service was really rough though. They thought we ordered things we did not. They came by twice to verify the things we ordered. They did not offer refills until we were pretty much done eating. First time here so maybe it was a one off.

We celebrated a special birthday last night, and the restaurant staff were amazing. They made it super fun for us, and were wonderfully attentive. Food was really good too. Below average food is an under statement. That s not how Asian food should taste. Server was nice but will not come back. Food is expensive for what it is, even all you can eat sushi somewhere else is much better. I am so disappointed.

Stopped in for their lunch special. I had the grilled chicken teriyaki and ate it on the front patio. The food was quickly prepared, a good portion size and delicious. The wait staff were quick and polite and the interior of the restaurant is very clean and stylish. Will definitely be returning to try some of their other options.

My girlfriend and I have been eager to try this new spot as it s perfect walking distance and central to downtown Kitchener! A lovely patio outside and a stunning interior to boot! From the moment the hostess took us to our seats we were treated to fine hospitality and warm service. We ordered saki bombs as a cheeky appetizer and much to our surprise the staff all came out to celebrate and cheer with a drum and confound to take the shots! What a treat! The recommendation by our server for the general Tao chicken was very appreciated as my girlfriend enjoyed it tremendously. Julia who I believed to be running the show made our night very special. We will be returning at the earliest convenience!

My husband and I visited on a Saturday night and used the travelzoo voucher, which was great because it is a prix fixe menu so we got to try things we probably wouldnt have thought of ordering. We had the jasmine tea, wonton soup, seaweed salad, salmon, steak (cooked perfectly), fried rice and finished with 2 kinds of cheesecake: mango and matcha. We thought everything was interesting, tasty and well prepared. Because of the prix fixe menu, we tried things we never had before and walked away with new favourites! The restaurant is beautiful, and the staff was helpful and friendly without being intrusive. Its a great dining experience that I would recommend to others. Enjoy!

Amazing atmosphere, quite a beautiful place really. Although there was literally flies in all the soy sauce, we checked other tables as well, most had flies in the SOY SAUCE! Never seen this before, absolutely disgusting. Please check before you consume, I felt bad for other patrons. Not just A fly, there was at least 15 Flys festering in our table SAUCE. There is zero excuse for this. Extreme code violations. Server was nice enough until we pointed out the bugs in the sauce, then she was quite cold..We also did order lettuce wraps as an app, which we never received. Obviously will never return, and you shouldnt either. And if you do, please check for bugs in your food.

Atmosphere was great but honestly, the food was sub par. While it has a lot of different dishes, every dish we tried just fell a little bit short. Karaage was so dry. Fried rice was very wet and oily. Wanton soup was very heavy with MSG. Service is very slow. We went when there were only 2 other tables - that has already had their food - and we still waited over 45 mins for our food.

Beautiful restaurant with amazing staff and food. The atmosphere and ambience is really relaxing with lofi music. Great place to take a date or dine in with family. Staff was really friendly and there was accommodation for toddlers with high chair. Was visiting from out of town and was happy with the experience. We ordered sushi, and some appetizers and they came out great. This place is new and 1 month and I can see it becoming really popular for people who want to experience the fine dining atmosphere with fairly priced food. The serving staff are friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere is relaxed with some stylish decor. The really impressive thing, though, is the food. The food is bursting with flavour at every bite. Considering the portions, quality, and atmosphere, I find it all surprisingly affordable for a meal. If youre a fan of Japanese cuisine, I strongly recommend you try this place!

I wanna start this off by saying Allison is such an amazing server and she deserves to be acknowledged. She was patient, kind, responded well, and made us comfortable. However, the food was not good. The food was salty, and the manager tried to gaslight us that it wasn t even though someone in the kitchen tasted it and admitted to us that it was indeed too salty. The manager came over and said it is not THAT salty . I was shocked. lol The ambience was dark, couldn t even see the menu properly; and it took forever to get the food. Edited: I try to be fair in my reviews while maintaining honesty because if you are going to pay your hard-earned money for a meal, you deserve to get your money s worth and you deserve honesty. Yesterday, I was told by the restaurant s manager to edit my review because it made them look bad. They came up to our table after I had posted the review and told us that the last sentence about tips wasn t favourable to them even though it was the truth. I did oblige and deleted it. However, waking up this morning I feel it was unnecessary and just disrespectful for them to make me edit my honest review because it didn t favour them So I am adding the last bit back Allison was the only good thing about this place. I was disappointed to hear that her tips wouldn t go to her, instead they ll go to a more senior server or the manager (both of whom didn t serve our table of 5). If Allison did all the work, Allison should be the one to get her tips, it doesn t matter if she is a new server or not. That is exploitative and asking me to not disclose this on my review is offensive. I will not be going back here.

Wonderful experience having dinner last night in Republik! The food was real tasty. The ambience was also good. I prefer coming again.

The warm and inviting ambiance made us feel right. The decor is charming, with ambient lighting. Food: We started with the sushi, which was fresh and bursting with flavor. The Popular Roll and AC Roll were the tastiest. Appetizers we have sweet potatoes fries with veg dumpling. In the mains Buddha Delight the yummy one with veggie fried rice and stir fried noodles Service: The service was impeccable. Our waiter was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu, making excellent recommendations. The food arrived promptly, and our water glasses were never empty. Atmosphere: The atmosphere at Republik is cozy and family-friendly, yet sophisticated enough for good food. There was a soft background music playing, which added to the overall experience. Value: While price is comparable to the quality of the food and the overall dining experience make it worth every penny. The portions were generous, and we left feeling satisfied. We as a group of 3 members had our lunch here. The menu was delicious and felt authentic Chinese flavours while tasting them. One of my friend s personal favourite was General Tao chicken , the spice coated chicken first fried and then tossed in honey. The other friend liked the Steak Tataki . The finely cooked steak was little crunchy on the outside and tender and juicy inside. I personally prefer the main dish Chicken Yakisoba . The combination of veggies with noodles and fine pieces of chicken gave out a blending flavour of taste. I liked the big pieces of chicken to bite and munch on. I am the one who suggested this place to my friends as this is my second time visiting this restaurant. I was impressed by their outdoor dining and a perfect spot to enjoy this spring season. I am a fan of Chinese cuisine and would like to have soups whenever I m at restaurants. So, the first dish I tried was their Wonton Soup . The broth was subtle in taste while the steamed wonton gave out a unique flavour in every bite. I personally recommend this soup. Even had it today along with Chicken Karage and Steak Tataki .

Great flavours, VERY attentive service and you can take in the great vibes of downtown Kitchener from the patio. The Shrimp Butter Yaki is savoury and satisfying - I recommend ordering the side of rice for a complete meal:) Ill be back Update: currently eating the green tea cheese cake - delish!! I only gave 4 stars because they dont have their coffee maker installed yet.

We went there for our wedding anniversary so we had lots to celebrate! Overall, we liked the place and we would go back for certain dishes now that we have gone once. Value for money I think is where this place excels! Food - Appetizers -Tom yum soup: that was good. Had that sourness you would expect and it was spicy but not so crazy that it tasted like burning. -Vegetable rolls: they were good. -Crispy calamari: we are snobs when it comes to calamari. We dont like it cheer and very few places offer that. This was good but not amazing. -Ebi Mayo: this is a deep fried shrimp dish. We didnt like it, the batter was too thick and doesnt work well on shrimp. -Chicken Karage: this was tasty. Would get again. Entrees: Green Dragon roll sushi. Tempura shrimp sushi covered in avocado. This was really good! We would go back and try their other sushi. Fried rice: this was very tasty. Butter Shrimp Yaki: very simple dish, pan fried shrimp with vegetables. Very fresh and simple. Overall, the entrees are much better than their apps. Atmosphere: the decor is nice and trendy. There are candles everywhere, which could have been lit to make it nicer.

Look no further for a great dining experience at Republik s new location in Kitchener, which just opened last week! A beautiful patio section led into an intimate dining experience, with pleasant lighting and music. I was happy right away with the fact they carry Pepsi products! We ordered to have things arrive as they were made. Everything had great pricing! The Tom Yum soup came with a bit of a kick, but the cucumber and tomato toned it to a perfect amount! The side salad had a dressing that was a perfect touch. They have a grand opening promotion of $1 chicken karaage and it was so good, perfectly fried. Get it while you can! My husband had the Crispy Fried Calamari and loved it. We grabbed the Alaska and California roll, both were very fresh tasting and rolled to perfection. I got the grilled teriyaki chicken and my husband got the crunchy salt and pepper shrimp. The chicken was cooked perfectly and was not at all dry. The veggies were seasoned so nicely! My husbands shrimp dish was fantastic and the side noodles beat out some of the best noodles we ve had! They have Green Tea and Mango Cheesecake, I loved the Mango, it was so light and creamy! We finished our dinner with a Jasmine tea, a perfect ending to our dinner! All the food came rather quickly and everything was prepared as it should be. The staff were very friendly and attentive, always ensuring our table was clear and our drinks filled. Fantastic hospitality! We will be back!

My experience at Republik was great. I had the lettuce wraps and the green dragon rolls. My friend had the sweet potato rolls and the veggie rolls. We split the teriyaki bites. All of the food was delicious. The atmosphere is cool and calming. It would definitely go again!

What a joke. No long weekend liquor license, the cheapest decor you can find at a restaurant supply store, items on the menu with white out over them inside dirty plastic menu sleeves. Theres a reason we were the only table there, ended up leaving before ordering anything. I cant understand why anyone would walk into this place and think itd be good.

Omg!!! We had an amazing patio dinning in such a wonderful place here in republic Asian eatery and bar and approachable staff which they are always checking people if we re ok and better positive vibes.

I got the steak tataki for an appetizer and the yakisoba for an entree, fantastic taste and a lot of food for the price. Noodles were very well cooked and you even got a free salad or soup with your entree. Very highly suggested new spot in kw! #republik @republikeateryandbar

Saying the service is slow is an understatement. It s very very very slow. Not the problem of the people working, but due to a poorly managed restaurant by the owner. We waited 20 mins to order 2 drinks and 2 apps. Drinks took 30 mins. Appetizers took over an hour. My pictures don t have food because I am still waiting .. Outdoor seating is nice tho Doing this for the free cheesecake

Visited this place with my husband and we were quickly seated. We were given menus and the server said theyd be back with some water. We picked drinks and apps to order and then waited...and waited...and waited. We sat there for more than 20 minutes and no one came by. I made pointed eye contact with several servers, including the first one we had, stacked our menus at the corner of our table in a very obvious were ready to order way, and lifted my hand to someone in an attempt to get their attention...and nothing. We ended up walking out. Very frustrating experience. We wont be back.

Save your money! Go to an expensive all you can eat and get better food for less. Went here on a Monday night, the service was so slow I almost had to walk out... Waited 20 minutes for drinks, and another 45 minutes for food with 2 other people in the restaurant (who had already eaten). The atmosphere is nice, but needs music. A dead silent restaurant is not enjoyable, especially when it is empty. The food was all overcooked, yet undercooked simultaneously. Some serious work skills lacking in the kitchen. On a positive note, the wonton soup was one of the most flavourful that I have ever had.

The dining experience was amazing. The atmosphere was quite busy as there was rush. However we were dined properly and got noticed on time. The hosts and servers were proficient in their services and handled us professionally. The food was great as well . Looking forward to our next visit.

Had the salmon sushi rolls, karage, and vegetable yakisoba. Was all very good, would recommend any of those dishes. Pricing is fairly good too, a tad on the expensive side, but thats just the reality of the current age. - Republic asian eatery 305 King St W This past Saturday on the 15 of June was a lovely day and we went for a stroll through Victoria Park and found ourselves at the Republic Asian eatery. It is just opened a week ago. We were greeted by a warm and welcoming staff and naturally we chose the lovely patio. The menu has a good variety and my wife and I chose to have the chicken karaage (chicken bites with an interesting sauce) spring rolls which are a perfect size and crispy on the outside and an 8 piece green dragon sushi roll with tempura shrimp. I would reorder. And finished with an iced tea and a yummy mango while my wife had the green tea cheese cake. Not at all pricey which is welcome. Give it a try.

We had lunch here and i would rate this restaurant 10/10. Aside from the yummy foods, the staff and crew are also wonderful!

New restaurant alert! Republik has opened its 3rd location (after Windsor & Cambridge) in downtown Kitchener. This location (previously Gilt Restaurant) has been refreshed with a modern, trendy, but comfortable design. The menu is wide, covering many Asian regions, but not overwhelming. We started our meal with an NA Pina Colada (liquor license coming next week) and some green tea. Look at that teapot! Definitely a unique and delicious experience. We then ordered chicken wonton soup and seaweed salad. The staff let us know that you get these items with the Entrees, which makes the entrees an even better value. Theres a current promo for the Chicken Karaage for only $1! Definitely worth hitting that deal up. The chicken coating was light and crispy and the meat was juicy and tender. We finished our meal with the Republik Fried Rice. Its A LOT of food, so we took the majority of it home and refried it with eggs for breakfast. A great experience. Will be back! Vegetarian options: A good quarter of the menu is vegetarian. Parking: Parking located behind the building. Free on evenings and weekends. Wheelchair accessibility: There is a wheelchair accessible entrance at the front.

We tried Sweet potato roll, chicken karaage, veg spring roll, Tom Yum Soup, Yakisoba with chicken The food is really good !Loved the sweet potato roll and Tom Yum soup especially. I recently had a wonderful lunch at this restaurant. The service was exceptional( thanks to my server Aakanchya) and the staff were friendly and attentive. The food was not only delicious but also healthy, which is a great combination. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for a tasty and enjoyable dining experience.

Visited with my sisters for their Karage deal and it was a great time! The drinks were great and had fun non-alcoholic options! Food was good and easy to share with a group. Would recommend.
