Breakfast special is delicious! Not only are the bacon, sausage and eggs tasty, but the potatoes with onion are the best in town, only surpassed by the friendly demeanor of the owner and staff. Take out or eat in and you won't be disappointed.
If I had to dine anywhere downtown It'd be here. No fuss, great atmosphere, good prices.
Wow!!!!! If you want a classic diner atmosphere with classic diner prices, with good breakfast made hot and fresh then THIS is the place to be, I had the 9.99 special breakfast with sausage, egg, home fries, and toast and it was all just perfect! Everything was made to order, the eggs tasted fresh, the sausages were piping hot and the toast was super crunchy! The lady who worked there was so sweet and kind, and was a very amazing cook. The coffee didn't taste burnt, in fact it was a perfect 10! I could go on and on and on but I'm just going to let the pictures speak for me, as it was just as delicious as it looked. 10/10
Went today for the first time as I always used to see it when I passby. My experience was amazing. I would say best place for breakfast in DT kitchener. Quick service, tasty food, and good ambience.
I have seen Slices in my travels many many times in my 6 years of being in the region. I have always been interested because I love little hole-in-the-wall diners and eateries. Many people have told me it's been there for a long long time. I decided yesterday would be the day I finally ate at Slices. How does that place stay in business? I gave two stars for food. They did not have all the items on the menu and so I made a different selection. My husband ordered a basic breakfast and I ordered an assorted sub. The hash browns in the breakfast were so saturated in grease they were inedible. My sub was made with fried breakfast meats. My sub had soft bread, fresh lettuce and tomato but the mystery vinegar (tasted like malt?) threw me right off. I ate half. When my husband got his can of Coke he had to wash dirt off the mouth of the can. The menu is HUGE. I don't know if they actually stock all of that food but I'm not inclined to find out. I gave one star for service. The person working was abrupt and huffed when I didn't want to pay full price for the item i initially wanted. The meal was supposed to be chicken wings and fries with coleslaw, but they didn't have coleslaw. So I changed my mind and was met with a huff. There was no one behind me, and no other orders happening so I'm not sure why the response. Also, you order your food, and then sit down. You also have to pick up your own food at the window. I did tip, but I'm not sure for what? I gave three stars for atmosphere because this place hasn't been touched since 1992, I'm sure of it! Very outdated, very chaotic (needs organized), but I absolutely love the cheesey 90s diner feel. That's the draw for me. My one big complaint - no bathrooms. Probably could use a deep scrub too. At the end of the day I won't return to Slices. There are a lot of places that can match the positives and ultimately exceed Slices in every way. It's an interesting part of Kitcheners history, but I ask again, how is this place still open??
Just at the heart of DT Kitchener, the restaurant welcomes you with the warmth of a homely atmosphere. The wonderful folks prepared a lovely meal as requested. Definitely see myself walking in there again. P.S.: Street parking is available if you're lucky, if not then it's a bit of a walk from the nearest public parking.
Great little place for decently priced food. Staff is friendly & great! Hash browns are delicious, polish sausage was so good, eggs cooked perfectly. No gluten free bread options unfortunately. Not a place to go if you have dietary restrictions. Hopefully they will have some options soon! Love toast with my breakfast!
This is a nice family resto. We ordered French toast w sausage and the Gyro Breakfast. Coffee was ok and you get one free refill. My French toast was ok but nothing crazy. The Gyro Breakfast was good. The meat was tasty and the eggs were cooked the way we asked. The home fries were seasoned properly but we did not eat them as we like them differently, crunchy and baked or fried. Service was super fast and we sat outside on a small front patio. The inside needs some TLC but for a quick bite is fine. We do support local family business so, we will be coming back to try other items.
Food was really good. Nice staff. My only complaint is, I ordered for call ahead pick up and was not notified on the phone that theres an upcharge for rye bread or for a takeout container. Should probably put that on the website, or say that on the phone...

Terrible service. Asked for refill and the owner said You only get refills when you buy a meal sternly. Lol. She then proceeded to yell at employees as we were trying to talk. Not a nice experience. But hey... no problem - Kava Bean cafe is just around the corner and theyre awesome and have their coffee out welcoming refills. Id give Slices a 0 rating if I could.

We can t say enough GOOD things about this place! :) My wife and I stopped in for a quick bite while travelling through Kitchener. Food was quick fresh and very tasty. Prices were very reasonable and service was great! (Mom &Papa with their daughter) very sweet and friendly.

Its the iconic old fashioned diner. Food is good, coffee is what youd expect, prices are very good. If you think youll like it you will, if you think you wont you wont. The sort of place that feels frozen in time, in a good way.

Dined in for brunch a few times, got the broccoli cheese omlette and the vegetable omlette at different times. Easily the best omlettes around. Service was friendly too.

Came for a Saturday breakfast with my boyfriend. The place is really charming as it has classic dinner vibes, which makes you feel like you ve gone a bit back in time and it s really nice. We had the breakfast sandwich and the breakfast special, both had a good portion and very tasty. We ll definitely be coming back to enjoy more food and the charming atmosphere!

The schnitzel on a bun is a must have. Fantastic portion and great price.
The food was good. Be warned that you will have to fetch everything yourself (though theyll clean up after you and keep your tables clean). Dont let that prevent you from tipping though. This is a family run place, clearly, and family members do everything, and this approach is probably one way theyre using to keep the prices very reasonable. Decent ambience too.

Best bang for the buck
This place can be described as slop thrown on a plate. Food was gross and presentation even worse. Breakfast wrap? More like a burnt olmlette thrown in a wrap folded over. It was not even wrapped up. The philly cheese steak was large chunks of beef tossed in a bun. These chunks were likely stewing meat as the beef chunks was so tough and chewey you could not eat it.
Not a fan. I had the Reuben. Sandwich was grilled but not with butter or even margarine. it was oil and wasnt very tasty. The fries were sparse and the frozen kind. $16.

*VIBE* If you are looking for a classic dinner vibe, this is it. When you walk in, youll feel like you stepped back a few decades -- in a good way. It has the charm of a family-owned restaurant with that 80s-something decor; neat and clean, not pretentious. *BREAKFAST SPECIAL* The menu has the traditional dinner fare youd expect - we had the Breakfast special, which is a plate of fried potato, eggs your way, and ham, bacon and sausage. We said no to the toast, and were offered several tomato slices instead. Not a healthy breakfast - definitely, the greasy spoon griddle experience, but in a comfort-food kind of way. It was a full plate, and I was satisfied when finished. *COFFEE* The coffee was fine, but came in a small mug, and no seconds were offered -- I think there might be one free refill, but I didnt ask. *SERVICE* Its cafeteria style, so you have to order at the counter, and they call you when your food is ready. Want anything else - you have to ask. The staff was friendly enough, but not what youd call attentive. The two times Ive eaten there, only one person was working, so I guess thats why they dont wait tables: they just take your order and then cook it. If you want someone to come round to your table and ask how youre doing, you wont find it here. *LOCATION* The restaurant is situated on a corner, so lots of window-seat booths, and it was nice to sit and look out at the rainy sidewalks while we ate our food. It has the bonus of being right by KW Book Exchange, so our new favourite outing in downtown Kitchener is to browse for some used books, then come here for a late breakfast. PROS: lots of window seating, authentic diner feel, simple tasty food, good quantity served. CONS: a bit greasy (but I ordered fried potatoes and breakfast meat, so what did I expect?), coffee size a bit small.

My hubby ordered pancakes , found bristle that use to clean the grill in his pancake , we told the owner , she just say it happens . I ordered brown toast for my breakfast, it was white , the owner changed it but she brought it over with her hand , grap the white toast from my plate with her hand . WITH HEALTH AND FOOD SAFETY IS NOT QUALIFIED. Hope health dept would do an inspection.

I been coming to this place for awhile but I had a bad experience with my son for breakfast. Never again will I be bringing him. I got Blamed for scaring customers away maybe I will take my business else where. Their food is overpriced anyways.

I love and have supported this family ran/operated restaurant for decades! I live in the heart of DTK as Slices Fam Restaurant does aswell. Personally, my go to is theyre breakfast, ordered the Gyro alongside my breakfast order and was..... Blown away! Sooo good! Pita grilled/toasted perfectly! Tzatziki garlic essences enhances and binds all. Only downfall is, I expected 2x the amount of protein that was given.

False advertising at this place. They have all these daily specials on there site and when you go in there restaurant none of the specials are offered because its an old site. Also the stuff I wanted could not be made because they did not have the ingredients. All they had was beef burgers to available. Very unprofessional business. Disappointed to say the least.
A nice solid dinner. Its what you expect to see in every town in Canada.. the same signs and food. They serve western sandwiches.. need I say more. The food is solid comfort.
They even have 3 picnic tables outside with wonderful umbrellas donated by the City of Kitchener! Simple but home cooking, superb Oktoberfest sausage and eggs.

Visiting Downtown Kitchener today and was nearby. Reviews looked good so I went in. Saw a dude with long hair wearing a mask and a woman in the kitchen preparing food without a mask. Dude asks if he could help and I pointed out the woman with no mask. My mom?. I said everyone is supposed to wear a mask. He and his mom bantered in another language and he laughed. I told him, your laugh tells me you arent taking this seriously and I walked out. I would give 0 stars if possible. Avoid.
5 star restaurant with top notch food. The staff is nothing shy of amazing individuals. Friendly greetings from the second you step foot into the restaurant to friendly goodbyes as soon as youre finished. Home burger hits the spot every time, great portion sizes and awesome taste. I recommend 100% and I will be a regular from now on. Consider this place your second home since the people behind the counter treat you just like family! All and all 11/10 service. Thumbs up!

Favourite diner in all of KW
There was a time where I ate here weekly. Ive since moved away but took the opportunity to visit recently. Menu has always been larger than expected and the biggest detractors are the bathrooms (you have to leave the restaurant proper and go downstairs). Family style diner that is run by a real family.
I love this place for the friendly service and all day breakfast
Got that really comfy, no-frills diner feel. Service depends on who helps you, but youll self serve when the food is ready for you - and food is served up fast. Prices are fair, and portions are adequate. I personally like the polish sausage breakfast, with the thick, salty slices of sausage as the stars of the dish. Hash browns may not be to everybodys liking, as they are not of the crispy variety, but they are buttery and well seasoned. I keep coming back for the breakfast menu, which is simple, greasy American diner breakfast at its most comfortable. Please dont order the hot chocolate though, which was basically brown water, with the instant powder they used collected at the bottom of a tiny cup.

This is a great little dinner in the heart of downtown. Very casual and a nice place to meet up with friends.
Been here few times since its close to the office. Food is alright nothing that great for how much they charge. Went there this time and got a few fries with my fish which by the way they use pollock which is the cheapest fish ever. Felt like i got a fish stick. Fries were cold and soggy. Called the manager and he was so rude. He obviously doesnt know how to be a manager and shouldnt be one. Told me thats the portion they always give and that he cant do anything. Save your money and go to a real diner where they respect their customers and give proper food. If you the owner are reading this just know you should be ashamed of business and staff. Stop being stingy and charging people 25 cents for a takeout boxes give better portions and have other ways of paying than just debit. Your establishment Soooo stingy and cheap.

Great family run restaurant serving everything from all day breakfast to a million dinner options. I was very happy to find this gem downtown Kitchener. Its like stepping back in time to when small family diners served quality food at good prices. The type of food you dont feel gross after eating, or want to fall asleep from lunch.
