Gerri was helpful and friendly, so nice to deal with..comfortable beds and clean. Breakfast at cafe was great.

Simple basic food with a beautiful outdoor patio by the lake.

As of 2020, the best Caesar in town. Edit: As of 2023, still the best Caesar in town and good classic pub food. 2024 update: The Caesar was garnished even better this year, but unfortunately, they tampered with the Caesar gun or something because it was more watered down than in all the other years. On top of that, we were disappointed to see how the kitchen is skimping out and using chicken in their clubhouse. This was a little disappointing, to say the least. The Riverside holds deep sentimental value in our hearts, so it s a bummer when things change. They should stick with the classic pub food that made them great.

Just had lunch at the Riverside Inn. Had a fabulous salad and their West Coast Chicken Sandwich and was really impressed with the service and quality of food. It is a great place grab lunch or dinner and would recommend it.

I stayed here over Christmas and had an abysmal stay. I expressed my concerns when we were finally able to get in touch with a staff member & have emailed and still have not been offered any resolution. My partner and I stayed at the riverside inn over Christmas. We are both extremely unhappy with our stay. We both phoned the hotel multiple times the day before Christmas eve and on Christmas eve to try and find out how late we could check in. It took someone until 5 pm Christmas eve to return the 2 voice-mail my partner and I had left. We get to our room at 9 pm and the window is open and the room is absolutely freezing. We had the heater set to 30 for the duration of our trip and the room did not warm up enough at any point. We had to lay towels on the bathroom floor just so we didnt have to endure the freezing tiles. Christmas day we came to grab something from our room and our key wouldnt open the front door. Luckily the beer store was open. The staff member was unable to help us until the end of her shift 20 mins later. We call the number on the front door of the hotel, and the gentleman told us to ask the beer store employee to give us another persons room key. We also mentioned the cold room and were offered no solutions. We went back to the beer store and the employee told us she couldnt just give us the other persons key and we had to wait for her to use her master key to let us in. Stood outside in the rain when we were supposed to be eating family dinner. We finally got into our room with the master key. Neither of our room keys would work. The lady finally gave us the other persons room key so we could at least get in the building. We had to use a towel to wedge our room door open to get back in later. On top of all of this because the room was so cold our towels never dried properly so we couldnt shower before we left the next morning. We also told the staff who were in the office before we left that we were unhappy and explained the above. Im extremely surprised that no one from your business has bothered to reach out or offer any form of explanation or apology. Its absurd that we spent 300 dollars for this awful stay. I get it that it was Christmas break but am shocked at how unprepared riverside inn was. Why did no one double check the keys were properly activated? Why is it that we didnt get an email a few days before our trip with some instructions? Why on earth would you not make sure the room was at least a decent temperature? Stick out some extra towels for the guests. This wasnt my first stay at your location as my in laws live around the corner. If this isnt rectified it will be my last stay.

Good people and nice place

I called a week prior to our stay this past weekend and spoke with a very nice front office person, Gerry. She booked our room with 2 beds. This hotel although fairly old, had gone through a big renovation and the results are fantastic! The beds were very comfortable, large screen tv, digitized remote for ceiling fan and air, spacious modern bathroom and laundry service if needed. A couple things to be aware of. Gerry is in the front desk office from 9-5, so after 5:00, you can t ask for any assistance. We also found the wifi to be very slow, but this was not a big problem. We definitely recommend the Riverside Inn.

Looks bleak on the outside, but hallways and rooms are neat. Renovated or well kept. Clean. Good beds. Spacious enough. Quiet. Well equipped coffe/tea maker, ice machine in hallway. Own parking place (free) Great cafe for breakfast in the mornings adjacent. Notice: no elevator.

Great stay! We came off a long wet snowy day on the bikes, great checkin, good bar and great prices! Definitely a good place to warm up. Appreciate the laundry in house!

Eleven of us arrived after biking from Port Renfrew and the staff immediately and happily got to work to seat us all quickly supplied the beers followed by great food. All done with smiles and good humour. Added so much to making our adventure such a memorable occasion. They have a great covered patio overlooking the Cowichan River (due to numbers, we were inside)

Checked in at the liquor store next door, so I was wondering what I was getting into. The answer was a really nice hotel room. Lovely location on The river and the rooms were wonderfully decorated and clean. Loved my night there

This is a very old hotel so our room was very small for 4 people. Safety: No elevator, so if you cant do stairs, not a good place to stay. Walkability: An excellent grocery store nearby is also a Tim Hortons. Food and drinks: We went to the pub for fish and chips. They were very good.

Great location walking distance to many shops/restaurants. Convenient tube rentals across the street with access to private dock for launching down very slow river. Clean rooms, contemporary decor, current tech a/c unit & mini fridge, coffee counter, 1 Dbl + 1 Qn bed, 1/2 depth closet, table& chair, wall mtd TV, operable window, in a very tight fitting room. No space to leave any luggage open, but nice feeling room.

Honestly a solid place to rest after a long bike ride. The rooms were clean, modern, and comfortable. The location was great, right next to the river and several stores. The pub was cute - love the terrace. I got a black bean burger (yay for veg options!) and local beer. In the morning we grabbed food at the cafe before heading off again on our bikes. The staff also made this place! Everyone went above and beyond to be chatty, friendly, helpful, and genuine. The only thing is youll want to arrive before 8 for an easier check in. Thanks for the great stay! My dad and I enjoyed our time on our bike tour of Vancouver Island!

Brisket eggs Benny was delicious.

We had burgers, fries and salads here. Nothing special about it. The salad was wilty and the grape tomatoes looked like they were better suited for the compost. Waiter was pleasant though, but never mentioned the daily specials.

I only gave it a 1 start because the fries were great and they were receptive otherwise would have been a 0. Ordered a TURKEY clubhouse right from their menu online. Asked for multigrain bread and received brown bread. Called them up and they were nice but they stated that it isnt a TURKEY clubhouse (which is what we ordered and stated on their website) but a clubhouse that has roast beef and chicken in it. Very disappointed for a Valentines take out order. They werent even that busy. :(

Surprisingly a very nice place, clean and comfortable rooms, friendly staff with a restaurant on site. Great location with everything in walking distance. The local Tims is across the street and the grocery store is a eight minute walk. Plenty of local parks walks within a ten minute walk.

They have horrible covid protocols they serve my father a beer and completely forget about my water it s only been ten minutes in and I already am not liking the place. before protocols where decent and the waiter was good at there job 10/10 before and now I m not a big fan

Went in for Sunday breakfast. The food was good but it took longer to cook than it did to eat. We were waiting 22 minutes from the time our order was placed until it arrived at the table

Rooms are OK, I was there for 2 nights on a work trip. The first night was fine, but the second night there was a party or something going on in the pub below. The music was unacceptably loud. Even with ear plugs in I was able to hear it and it kept me up until 11pm. It was a Wednesday night. For almost $250 a night Id at least expect it to be quiet. Checking in was alright, but checking out at 8:00am was not possible as there was no one at the front desk and no one at the pub as per the sign at the front desk.

We found a hair in our food, was given a credit to use at at the resturant because the manager conviced us to take the credit because it was a fluke and the food is actually really food. We accepted because a hair is a simple mistake. Well, the next food we got was disgusting. I got the seafood alfredo and my clams were all underdone (unopened), and there was sand in some of the other shellfish, so it was inedible. They flipped the nachos upside down in the takeout box so all the toppings were stuck to the paper so we paid 15$ for a box of plain nachos. disgusting, bad kitchen and wait staff. Go to JVs or Jakes, they are delicious and always well cooked

We were there for an event and the manager of the restaurant was just lovely, making sure staff were organized and everything ran smoothly. I cannot recommend this place enough!

Gross! Absolutely no food quality. Unexperienced bartender. Local hangout, rude and obnoxious locals. Ordered appetizers, which for a local pub I can understand lowering the standards a bit. (uploaded a pic of their nachos) but this a total disregard for bar food. Bartender cant poor a pint of beer without pouring the head out at least 5 times per pint before finally waiting for the rest to settle. Unfortunately, there arent many options here, but do what you can to avoid this. I warned you!

Helpful friendly staff. Rooms are nicely renovated with comfortable beds and soaker tubs. The riverside view is actually a view across a flat, black rooftop with a glimpse of the river beyond. Apparently only two balcony river view rooms exist. Disappointing as we paid for a river view. Rather pricey considering this style of hotel.

Lunch in bar and then breakfast the next day. Portions generous and food tasty. Beer cold!

The location beside the river is lovely at anytime of year. Nice size dining area with lage bar and pool tables. Good to bring your family or a night out for live music. The employees are friendly and attentive. The food is EXCELLENT! Every dish that came out looked delicious and got rave reviews from my guests. I ll definetly bring more friends here when I come to visit family! Love it!!

I rate this place four star for cleanliness, comfort, and style. The only reason I rate it so highly is that Im deaf in one ear so was able to sleep through the noise. Unfortunately, my wife, who is not so afflicted, hardly slept so would rate it a two. In addition to traffic, there was slamming doors and ongoing footsteps on the wooden stairs outside the door. If you do stay here, bring earplugs and maybe an eyeshade and youll be fine.

The wings are really good but somebody needs to show the cooks what a hot wing is because they dont seem to know. The fish and chips were surprisingly good, much better than Jakes soggy offerings. The pub is nice and the staff friendly. We used to be regulars at Jakes but are going to be going to the riverside more often since the food is good and they dont close just when you feel like going out.

Clean, comfortable, and affordable. If you come to visit Cowichan area, this will certainly be a good choice. The rooms and adequately equipped with the mini-fridge, coffee maker, and most importantly AC. It is conveniently located at the heart of Lake Cowichan and the lake in question is actually just across the street. Easy enough to head over for a dip. The restaurant can be a bit of hit and miss. I cant say the food was stellar but it wasnt terrible. Based on the reviews before mine, others seemed to have enjoyed it so I cant form a generalizing judgement based on my one dining experience. Have a read and form your own opinion.

Service was very slow. Ordered River Rocks from the menu, not at all how they were prepared before, wanted medallions, not potato skins. Also left out the green onions and ranch which is on the menu. Flavorless. Wont be back.

Cannot speak to the hotel, but the bar was good. Different beer on tap (nothing nonalcoholic, but a decent selection of local options) staff were helpful. Service was decent. A little more rough around the edges than Jakes on the Lake - which we like. Food prices are reasonable and food was solid pub food. Well be back :)

So not happy with the service that I got today. Went with two of my friends and their two kids, ordered three items to eat and one was to go. The to go item was it our table before our food. We waited over an hour for nachos and then another twenty minutes for a ceasar salad with chicken, the salad was wilted and soggy and not enjoyable at all. So sad as they use to be very good and a place we ate at often.

Dont stay here if you are planning to sleep. Im sitting in my room listening to 90s hip hop at full volume at 1am complete with f and n words. I presume it is coming from the pub. Staying in a hotel with a pub attached, one expects some noise, but this is far beyond what is reasonable. Its a shame, because the room is actually very nice, clean, and comfortable. The owners response below is not accurate. I went down and checked. The pub was closed but the music was originating from there.

I booked through Hotel.com and called to the Inn to let them know Id be staying with my two kids for 3 nights. I was hoping they could put us in a roomy room so we could all fit. The staff went over and above by getting us a beautiful room that fit us comfortably, and making sure our stay was comfortable with their kind hospitality. Even though the Inn is most known for the liquor store and pub, the staff were so wonderfully accommodating for our little family. The dock was the biggest highlight, steps from our room and we were on and in the lake. Ive already recommended the Inn to a number of people. I hope to stay again when we visit Cowichan. Thank you to the staff and especially Chelsea <3

I made 2 take out orders recently first time they left me on hold for 15 minutes and hung up. They also got my order wrong both times I ordered. The online menu is out of date and they didnt have some items that were listed. Worst of all I got food poisoning after. I dont recommend.

We were at the Riverside Cafe, just had coffee and dessert, the dessert was amazing, will definitely be back again, just loved it. The staff was friendly and the place was extremely clean, overall a great experience.

To be fair the early bird breakfast was Luke warm, the has browns I could not eat the eggs where just OK. This was during the Christmas holidays and they had many group celebrating the night before. I would recommend this place but be particular with your ordering as it isnt consistent, and no matter what price you pay it should be at least a hot meal.

Receptionist Check-in and daily service, fantastic! Always friendly and very efficient. Bar host serving Saturday night was bubbly, fun and provided exceptional service - Bahama Mamas were awesome!. Family Suite was great with exception to view of the rooftop, downstairs noise from a door slamming possibly from kitchen chiller or service doors plus vent outside the suite windows kept us up most of both nights. We will definitely be back but, we will book early for a room with a balcony and view next time!

Worst service Ive ever received in my life. Waited over an hour to just leave before we got our food. Waited 45 minutes for the waitress to tell us our meals are being prepared. Than went up to get update and they had no info. Huge lack of communication between waitresses and the kitchen. Meanwhile a table across from us was getting liquor served non-stop DO NOT GO HERE FOR FOOD.

I had absolutely amazing food, the wrap was amazing and the fries salty. And the drink I had, a long island ice tea, was mixed very nicely. The service was great and the servers funny and personable and the option of indoor or outdoor seating. I highly recommend going here, especially in the summer.

I love coming here, but lately the service has dropped to unbelievably bad levels. The two new male servers are slow. I waited 15 min for a beer while they stood around, it wasnt even busy. The new GM is a joke, all she does is sit around and drink, doing nothings to help the situation while the male servers stand around. Hopefully the owners see this and make changes to the management

Nicely renovated and good location!

The room was very clean and nice, very spacious. Modern looks. Front desk tho closes quite early and also open late. There is a pub right beside it so you can grab a quick bite if you would like. No elevators tho, so if you have larger luggage it might be tough to get to your room.

Our room was great! Unfortunately thats were the good times ended. The food and service at the pub was among some of the worst Ive received in my 7 years of being in Canada. Vivian was more interested in serving the gents at the bar then serving us. My beer arrived with a slip of paper inside? My order of ribs were tough and tasted store bought, the potato skins were not crispy. After all of this she gave us the wrong bill. My wife had to walk to the bar in order to pay as the waitress was chatting with the guys again. Will not be returning!

We like the Riverside Inn but if you are older or have children or need to get up early might not be the place for you . You can here the band as if they are in your room , we were there when they had a ZZ Top cover band . They were good but not for sleeping to lol. Be prepared to carry your luggage up a steep flight of stairs with no help . There are 4 coat hooks to hang your cloths and no ware to put anything else so you are living out of your suitcase . The food is very good , good portions ,great prices but if you are looking for breakfast bepreparex to wait , they say they open at 9am but they open when they are ready lol

Beautiful little place! Nice and clean, very sound proof room and at a reasonable price. We were above a bar but with the window closed youd never know it, completely silent. We had a queen bed, everything was brand new. Very cozy and comfortable!

This is for the PUB.. not the INN. Most of these reviews are confused. Atrocious. Avoid at all costs. How does this place survive given the size of the town? Just walk across the street to the Cow Cafe for a superior experience. It starts with the bizarre segmentation that forbids children in most sections including the appealing outside Riverview area and ends with an appalling lack.of attention from wait staff. I ordered.. waited 25 min .. asked whats was happening to be told were cooking for the whole pub (it was half empty and those sat there were already eating).. waited 5 more minutes and walked out. Subsequent conversation around town confirm that this place is regarded as a dive and affirms the reason why this place was half empty when Jakes had a one hour wait for dinner.

Food and service were great. Sat on the outdoor patio and watched the tubers go by in the river

Great place to be at in Lake Cowichan

first time there I had dinner in the pub, I can not say enough good things about it. Service was outstanding, very personable and friendly ,wait staff made excellent recommendations. when you go make sure to try the balsamic salad dressing. This is going to be a steady thing for my wife and I.

service can be quite slow at times. the women behind the counter tend to cater to their regular customers more than others, and change the music constantly as a result. i had a meal there and i didnt hear a single song complete because they kept skipping or switching songs to appease the small number of regulars. i enjoy eating here and having a beer to watch the game, but it would prefer if all customers were given the same level of service. i do understand the importance of making sure regular customers are happy. however, when i order a meal and the server has to triple check what i ordered because she was busy chatting with other customers, it feels as though youre not being taken seriously. great atmosphere for the most part and definitely still want to continue going

Love the Old logging pics and town history inside

I stopped for a snack and got an awesome feed. Staff was great. Food was great. Atmosphere was worth the stop. Riverrocks are going to be my order next time#:) 4.5 out of 5.
