So marvelous to find such a treat in Langford! The shakshuka and chicken crepes were both fantastic! For my first trip to Victoria, I really expected all the best food to be in the heart of downtown, but House of Boateng Cafe is nowhere near downtown and handily beats out everywhere we tried for breakfast in the downtown area. We'll definitely be back!
My mom and I came in for the first time today after driving by many times and we were very impressed. We split the Crab Benny and it was so delicious and unique, never had a benny served on yams before! The Mango cheesecake was so yummy too! Our server Andrew was awesome, great service! Will definitely be back!
I was looking for a pet friendly where I could work and have lunch after checking out of my hotel. The owner and her chef husband have really found their niche. I ordered the huevos rancheros expecting their take on the Mexican dish. Boy was I in for a treat. The flavor of their jerk chicken and crunchy tostada, a full chefs kiss! I can't wait to come back in November when they're open for dinner. I'll upload a photo 📸
Great service & suggestion of food.. We are from Hawaii and loved to explore local restaurants and new fusion . Amazing food! The hollandaise for my crab Benedict was awesome. My husband had the chicken crepes and he cleaned his plate :) Definitely will come back when we are on the island..
Delicious food. I enjoyed the plantain dish: great flavours and a little spice kick made a very satisfying brunch. The pork sandwich and vegan bene the others had were also just as nice.Their menu is different to "the usual" offerings at other brunch places and they have good vegan and GF options. Staff were so helpful too, and there is seating inside and out.
Incredible brunch flavours!!!! Best brunch we have had in YEARS! The blends of flavours were like a symphony in our mouths. Hats off to the chef. Can’t want to try everything on the menu. Definitely worth the stop here if you’re on the island, I will be making a detour next time we’re on the Island just to eat here!
We went there for a Saturday brunch. They don’t have a prior reservation unless you pay a deposit. It was a line up, they wrote down our names and told us it takes about 20 minutes. We took a walk in the neighborhood, but had to wait another 10 minutes. Their ordering system is a bit weird, you should order and pay upfront and then wait for your food. It took a long time to get our food but the food was delicious and wonderful. Their menu claimed that they use local ingredients, that I can confirm from the freshness and taste. All the foods were decorated nicely. Our server was a nice person. There was another server on the floor with long hair which was not tied back, it caused me to feel uncomfortable. I was happy that she was not our server. Overall we loved the food but the wait time was not desirable. The food is highly recommended.
Came here for brunch for a group of 14. Although the restaurant is quite small, they were able to seat our large group without any problems on the patio. The HOB Jerk Caesar was sooo good. It comes with crispy chicken skin and house made pickles. I can't wait to go back.
Very excited to dine here for our first time and booked a table Friday afternoon for a birthday dinner at 6:15 PM. When we arrived, there were 5 empty 4 tops inside the restaurant but we were told that if we wanted to eat at one we would have to be finished by 7:15. We were given the option to eat on their covered patio, which had no heaters turned on yet, and was very cold (its December 20th). When we asked how we were to know that we would have only had a patio table when we booked, we were told we needed to request indoor seating, though there is no such spot for this on their reservation web-form (only lists a spot for allergies/restrictions and Occasion, see attached photo). Honestly it felt to us like the front of house had overbooked the interior, dropped the ball on their table management, and were shifting the blame to us the customer by saying it was our responsibility to make clear we wanted to eat indoors. Ultimately we left since we werent going to enjoy our meal knowing the wait staff were expecting us to rush. Unfortunately it meant we then had to find somewhere else to eat for the birthday, with no reservations, at 6:30 on a Friday. To be fair, the staff were apologetic and far from rude, but candidly, they made the wrong call. It was a bad look on the business to not only leave us in the dark that our reservation was only for outside, but to frame things as if it was our fault, and then to pressure us to eat in 1 hour while they had 5 tables open and other diners mid-meal. All in all a pretty disappointing interaction with the restaurant, which is a shame because we were looking forward to dining there. We will certainly give them another chance and if things work out better, change this review. Until we actually get to eat there however, we can only judge it by the service weve received up until this point.
Everything about this place is top-notch. The food, the service and the atmosphere. Simply the best restaurant in Victoria!
Delicious food and relaxing atmosphere. Order at counter but food is brought to table. For brunch for 2 with coffees and tip we were $59 out the door, so it was reasonable. Kid-friendliness: Changing table and kids menu
Our FAVOURITE spot in town. Excellent Vegans and GF options. Any of their Bennys are a must. Banana bread french toast is divine!
Bad service
So nice to have some unique flavors for brunch and now dinner service!! Absolute 10/10 the food is top notch and the servers are great. Have tried 4 brunch dishes and now 2 dinner dishes and Ive been blown away each time by how tasty they are. The blend of African flavors really sets this resteraunt apart from your typical brunch / dinner spot in Victoria. Special shout out to Chandra the manager she is wonderful!
Ive been to House of Boateng restaurant many times and have always have had a delicious meal and fast, friendly service. Today, I took my dad who is a little particular about what he can eat and he love it! We both had the African Bowl which my favourite. He said it a few times, very good, quite tasty, they make very good food here. This is coming from a man who is not very expressive (LOL). Needless to say, well back for the African Bowl again. Thank you!
Highly recommend! Food was unique and fantastic! Servers very friendly and professional. Cafe was busy but we were still was able to have a conversation. Ill be back Food
The atmosphere is lovely. The food Joey prepared was extremely delicious! The service from Andrew was awesome. He was sweet and kind and friendly! Thanks for an a amazing experience! My first time here, and I will be back
Awesome brunch and service. We had fried plantains and eggs, Shakshuka and delicious smoked salmon Bennie. We will be back for sure.
The only restaurant I would give five stars to in the whole world is in Lima Peru called Central, so four stars from me is high praise.
I m not understanding the hype. I had the pork belly sandwich. The pork was overcooked and dry. Kids menu item was tiny with no drink included. Charges $1 for hot water and a tiny slice of lemon. Another party member ordered the full beakfast eggs, toast, sausage potatoes.i don t like being seated then having to line up to order. Dietary restrictions: Only plus was they can accommodate gluten free
Lovely place!
The food was superb!!! The chef and servers were pleasant. I m definitely coming back!
Phenomenal brunch. Their menu and flavours are unique and well rounded. Their eggs Benny are always perfectly cooked and their coffee is very good. Also you must try their habanero sauce with the potatoes. The food does take quite a bit of time to prepare so be patient because it is definitely worth it.
Heard a ton about this place and decided to give it a try. We ordered the vegetarian African bowl, harissa grilled halloumi crepes and plantains (side dish on the menu). The plantains were decent but the bowl and the crepes left a LOT to be desired. The crepes were completely drenched in aioli which was heavy and very greasy. There were a 5-7 chickpeas in there which were tough. The aioli itself tasted like mayonnaise and almost had no flavour from the harissa and was under grossly seasoned. The whole dish was a literal hot mess and absolutely did not work together. The African bowl was only marginally better. The jollof rice, supposed star of the dish, was underwhelming. The eggplant purée did not work well with the rice and instead of having scrambled eggs we got a dried out attempt at a french omlette. Totally disappointed with the visit.
The food was amazing and the atmosphere was lovely - I would go back for the banana bread French toast alone. Our server at the beginning of our experience was most friendly and inviting. However, there are a few things that seemingly went sideways, when other servers were taking over. Our guests had to wait over 20 minutes for a simple coffee; they seemingly forgot to bring us refills when they offered; and we had to ask numerous times about our two orders of bacon. I wonder if their ordering machine was down or didn t communicate with each other what we ordered? And one server gave us a bit of attitude when we request items again because they hadn t arrived. Granted, we were a large group of 9, I understand orders can take longer and things can get mixed up, it just felt like they might need to better organize their operations/communciation a bit more. This place does well with small, intimate groups, but I m not sure I would recommend it for larger group parties or get togethers.
So so delicious! WOW the pork belly! The flavours - yummy. The service was excellent too - so delighted to be served by Castros son - what a charmer! And then a special treat for our young child given to us by Chef Castro - so thoughtful!
My friend took me here. The food was amazing! We both cleaned our plates! Highly recommend you check them out!
An Odd Duck Out A Mixed Experience Our visit to this café can best be described as a curious blend of charm and confusion. Upon entering, we were welcomed to choose our own seats a pleasant start, complemented by prompt service with water and menus. However, we were instructed to place our orders at the counter, which felt somewhat unconventional. Despite this, our spirits remained high as we deliberated over our selections. When it came time to pay, we were surprised to find ourselves processing the transaction before the meal was served. While the waitstaff was attentive throughout our visit, the payment structure felt disjointed. The Food: Salmon Eggs Benedict: The dish fell short in terms of flavor. While the salmon had a subtle taste, the rest of the components lacked seasoning. The hollandaise, though technically well-executed, was bland and unremarkable. The eggs were perfectly cooked, but the accoutrement crispy rice pavé was disappointing, lacking the expected richness. My sides, a mix of artisan greens and confit potatoes, were equally uninspiring; the greens were devoid of any dressing, leaving them tasteless, while the potatoes also needed a boost of seasoning. **Braised Pork Belly Sandwich:** This dish demonstrated significant flaws in technique. The pork belly had an overly thick fat cap that lacked proper rendering, resulting in a granular texture that detracted from the experience. The seasoning was minimal, and the candied jalapeños and slaw similarly failed to add depth or flavor. Although the concept showed promise, poor execution left it feeling disjointed. While the ideas behind the dishes are commendable, they require more attention to detail and execution to bridge the gap between vision and reality. I believe in the chefs potential, but there appears to be a disconnect in the passion and care reflected in the food. My hope is that they return to the kitchen with renewed vigor, addressing these shortcomings to enhance the dining experience.
Visited the restaurant after reading the award winning restaurant of the current year. But disappointing! Food served cold and not worth the price! Surprisingly server asked us if the food was very good and replied himself yes it s very good and went
I come for the African bowl all the time but today I saw their special was a scotch egg and changed it up and Im happy I did it was amazing egg was cooked perfectly and the spiced lamb they used for the casing was too die for.
Fantastic place
We went there for lunch today. First time for us. Very friendly staff. Service was top notch. Food had amazing flavour profiles. We will definitely be back! Vegetarian options: Good variety of vegetarian options Dietary restrictions: Gluten free aqnd dairy free options
Smoked salmon teased like it came from a can not a smoker.. Eat my whole meal without anyone checking If I needed anything.. Food
Amazing food, wonderful coffee, and great staff!
Favourite spot in Langford when I m in town. I always pick up a bottle of the hot sauce as it is the absolute best
Best food in Victoria!
Amazing!!! Best Ceasar ever!!!! Food was absolutely amazing too!
Unique, beautiful, and simply unreal food. Second time back and was just as great as the first time. Love it here! The staff are friendly and the space is welcoming. 10/10.
Plantain breakfast was great!
So delicious and very quaint place. Dietary restrictions: Great for gluten free, dairy free Food : 5/5 |
This place is fabulous every time! Best brunch on Vancouver island! The staff are wonderful as well. Couldn t recommend this place more!
One of the finest brunch places in all of Victoria/Langford. Incredible and friendly service. The food is unique and flavorful. Try something new everytime you come here and make sure to come often.
Eaton just adds to our visit each week!! He is such a delight! Love the food Parking: Yes
Beautifully spiced unique offerings and fun details. Vegetarian options: Lots of vegetarian options, well integrated into menu and not just as an afterthought Service : 5/5 |
Used to come here to eat a lot, over the past year though food came out cold and servers lack experience, attitude etc. Owner seems to be under a lot of stress, he tries hard it s easy to tell he s dedicated. Due to price and constant cold dishes we just come here to the Jamaican Patties and deserts.
The vegetarian shakshuka was amazing, and the virgin caesar was a work of art. Consistently delicious and interesting food.
I typically go here weekly. I really like the Banana Bread French toast and the Yam Benny. Great service and great food.
The crab Benny was the best Benny Ive ever had!
The yam bennys are something I think about often, they are so good! No one else makes a benny like they do. Great service too. I want to go get a benny now.
Milk curdled, service was Vancouver Island (slow, so slow), wifi didnt work on the patio, but the weather was great. More positively, the food (all day breakfast) was nice. Apart from the chicken sausage, that is. That was barely cooked. But you cant have everything, I guess. I loved the paintings in the restroom...the highlight of the experience.
Best cafe on the island, hands down.
Amazing attention to detail. Not only are their dishes stunning but the food is ALWAYS on point. Their African bowl is on another level... Huevo rancheros are incredible (their jerk chicken is perfection on it) Lost count on how many times Ive been, but i NEVER leave disappointed. *Oh and their hot sauce is insanely tasty*
House of Boateng catered our wedding in June !! We couldnt of been more pleased with the service that they gave us. We had endless comments on how good the food was. The dishes that they make are filled with flavour and you can tell they put alot of thought into what they do. The presentation of the food was spectacular and every single bite was delicious. The beef tenderloin and beet salad were my favourite but all of them are just as good! Isaac and his team and chef castro were really nice people to work with and we couldnt have chosen a better company to cater for our special day. I would choose them again in a heartbeat!! Thanks again for all your work in making our wedding the best day ever.
Great food, but the customer service was very much lacking. It looks and feels like a restaurant... They sit you at a table and give you cutlery, but then you have to get up to tell them where youre sitting when you order. Nobody introduced themselves. Nobody offered a refill for the water or coffee despite a lady walking around looking to see if people needed refills (before I got the coffee), and nobody asked how the food was even when they took the used dishes away... I guess thats why they ask you to pay before you experience the establishment...
We came on a busy Sunday morning around 11pm. It was pretty full at the restaurant so we had to wait 10mins for a table. However we waited 30mins for our food to be served, that was a long wait. Their menu was interesting and the food was very pretty in presentation and great! Our coffee was cold after waiting so long for food, they gave us a replacement which was nice. There was wifi in the Cafe.
HOB did a fantastic job catering our wedding! The team was responsive during planning and lovely during service. The food was delicious - our guests keep saying it s the best wedding food they d had! We had a number of gluten and dairy free guests and on top of offering a very inclusive menu, HOB made sure they had alternatives for each guest.
Not sure if it was an off day for HOB, but service was incredibly slow and even had to go up to the counter to say we were going to leave and request a refund. Would have been more understanding if the cafe was full, but it was 1:30pm and there were very few other customers. We could clearly hear the kitchen staff through our entire, lengthy time in the cafe. Sorry to say that it wasn t a great experience at all.
It was a new experience for us. Worth waiting for. Well definitely go back...! Vegetarian options: The menu has some good vegetarian options. Food : 5/5 |
Food was amazing service was a big meh
Food take so long

I recently came here for brunch, meeting family from out of town. While the service was slow, it was perfect as we got to spend time visiting and we were not in a rush and never felt rushed to leave when we were finished either. The food was fantastic! I will absolutely be back.
Service was not the best. The waiter didn t bring what I ve ordered and then they offered to make the dish I ordered in 3-5 min, but that didn t happen. They forgot Food
They put eggplant on my sausage, which would be something I would not expect For breakfast. Service was slow it took 45 minutes to get breakfast.
We have been here for brunch a few times & always love the food & service has been great. However went here last weekend & waited nearly an hour for our brunch after ordering. We also ordered an extra slice of toast after we got the brunch, which took about 20 minutes to arrive and turned up soggy. Diners around us also were sat waiting for about an hour. Love this place & the food, but they really need to sort out their kitchen staffing.
Had the Yam Benny. Absolutely phenomenal. Also got a latte with a very artistic design. Service was exceptional and I will be back soon! The front of house staff was also very courteous and personable as well. Must try spot if you are near the Langford area!
We can t thank Castro enough for accommodating our large gathering over the weekend. His team is very efficient and consistent from their cooking and customer service skills. Food was amazing! They have learned from the best for sure! We highly recommend Castro and his team.
taste, design and value for the food 10/10 and of course the customer service 10/10 i had the smoked salmon benny .
Spectacular food created by a passionate chef! Check out their place across the street as well for long table dinners and retail take and bake meals.
Incredible food & fantastic coffee! Vegetarian options: Vegan Options Dietary restrictions: Gluten free & Dairy free options
An amazing cafe to have a lunch! Everything was very delicious and great service. Will visit again.
Three of us went for lunch today. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was great and the staff were very friendly. This is a great place. Today, after dinner, we were a group of three Japanese people who asked about sightseeing spots. Thank you very much for taking the time out of your busy schedule to teach me so kindly. We arrived safely and the three of us had a great time relaxing and looking at the lake. We are here to study language, so we will be returning to Japan soon, but we have very fond memories. Thank you very much
I lucked out and had the chance to attend an event today at House of Boateng. It was a networking event and House of Boeteng didn t miss a thing in the execution of hosting so many people. The food they serve is all fresh, vibrant in colour, flavours that complement each other and taste phenomenal. The owners and staff are absolutely lovely and accommodating. Lots of vegetarian options too. Beautiful place! I can t wait to book my own event or be invited back to another. Wheelchair accessibility: All one level and large restrooms
Wow! I choose the pork belly sandwich and it was fantastic! Super tasteful, super tender, very good! You have to try it!!
HOB cafe is our favourite place for brunch whether it is dining in or take out. Love everything about this place! Also, we had a celebration brunch here with our friends a couple of weeks ago to celebrate a special day and the HOB team did not only organize it so well but went above and beyond to make the day even more special. All of our guests loved it! Special mention to Chandra and Isaac for helping make the celebration brunch so special!
Best breakfast/brunch in town
We came on a whim with some family from the area, as it had a good rating and was on our way to a morning hike. Plus the photos online featured greens, which are sometimes missing from a vacation diet! The server was busy when we got there right after opening, but was friendly and explained their service model (they seat you, then you order at the counter). We were all excited about the options available, including several vegetarian and gluten-free options. Once we ordered, the food came fast and I really appreciated that they brought the kids food first (!!!) Everyone was really happy with their meals and our family from the area said they were planning to go back to try other meals.
The most amazing dinner! We loved every bite, so well thought out and absolutely delicious. If I could give more stars, I would! Today we came for breakfast, best in town.
This is hard to find now a days . All 5 stars across the board . You can tell the owner does things right , staff are happy , clients are happy . You can taste the difference when people do this a passion. You won t be disappointed here . Thank you for doing what you do , to the entire team .
Best breakfast in Victoria
Exceptional flavour every time - the African spices are so welcome on the West Coast, the perfect thing to warm your bones and take you for a mini vacation as you bask in the thoughtfully imagined dishes so unique from anything Ive tasted in BC. A great chef and excellent team who are capable of reproducing greatness again and again. Big thank you to you all for bringing something fresh and inspiring to a scene of parm fries, calamari, flatbreads and... Well you know already because the typical spread here is BORING - House of Boateng is a haven were blessed to have. Thank you again Chef and Co. All a bunch of beauties! The chicken crepe is amazing, that sauce!!
came here about a month ago on a trip to the island but I cant stop thinking about the shakshuka I ate... lifechanging. service was alright, with a more cafeteria style order at the front setup. dont let this deter you, the food speaks for itself.
Absolutely delicious breakfast/brunch options. Theres a dog friendly covered patio--a rarity outside of the summer season--and they were fabulous about my service dog in training in the main dining area. The main dining area is a little loud when full due to the sound bouncing off hard surfaces, but when half full, it was a comfortable level. This isnt really a criticism; lots of popular places can be like this. I wish we had more cafés like this. Very trendy. A real benefit to the neighbourhood. For parking, I recommend turning right on Hockley, when coming from Goldstream Ave, for the best parking options.
The food here is genuinely excellent. In a world full of boring breakfast/brunch options, the chef(s) here really care about what they re doing and it shows. The menu is inspired and creative. The execution is great. Came in for a brunch date and it was overall a very positive experience. My only note is that $100 after tip for 2 breakfasts and 2 drinks is hard to stomach. Not just because it s breakfast, but the lack of table service is a bit of a mood killer and feels like something you d see in a cheaper experience. I ll probably be returning because, like I said, the food was excellent, but some tweaks to the customer experience could definitely bump this up to a 5.
Delicious food and friendly service
If you want the most beautiful, artful food handcrafted with pride and respect for fresh, local ingredients, then visit HOB! You cannot leave there unsatisfied. Vegetarian options: Incredible and delicious selection
I have wanted to try this place for a year and a half... Finally did today. I only have two complaints, Ill get to those in order. Complaint number one, I wanted to order everything. I had to think very hard to decide what I was actually going to eat. Im going to have to keep coming back here. I know, sucks to be me I ordered the shakshuka, while my mother and brother ordered the smoked salmon and crab bennies, respectively, plus the fried plantains. The table beside us both got the pork belly sandwich, I had to hold myself back from stealing it. The plating was beautiful, something I aspire to, and we all traded bites back and forth, everything was amazing! My only technical complaint (number 2) was skin on the artichoke and a stem of thyme in my shakshuka. Despite that, a solid 5, and I cant wait to come back!
Delicious breakfast and dinner.
Very satisfied with the quality and the rich taste of the food. We had the Banana brea French toast with Brie and jalapeños and the waffle with duck confit and poached pears. Unbelievable! Will definitely go here next time we are visiting.
Delicious flavourings that you will be hard pressed to find anywhere else on the island! Vegetarian options: Vegetarian and vegan options Dietary restrictions: Gluten free options
Best breakfast Ive had, ever! I ordered banana bread french toast with brie, bacon crumble and jalapenos on-top.... I was skeptical, but the chef made this mixed flavor masterpiece I felt as if I was on a cooking show. 10/10 showing everyone this place. Parking: 2 parking lots on a side street, free of charge
Excellent customer service and good menu with lots of options for everyone
Lots of good gf and vegan options
Great food, nice little cafe!
An unexpected drop in resulted in an amazing experience. Came for brunch and the food presentation and variety is quite different from your general brunch menu at other spots. The flavour stands out unique and blends well with the other offerings. There are meat and vegan options as well as gluten free. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming with good service. There are also African inspired meals as well. A great spot for brunch where you dont feel greasy nor weighed down after.
I ve been 3 times now. Once with a group for brunch. They were so accommodating with all our babies and strollers. The food was excellent every time. It s healthy, filling, beautiful, flavourful. Really great for people with dietary restrictions but also just good for anyone. Highly recommend. Dietary restrictions: Great for anyone with restrictions. GF, vegan, etc. Kid-friendliness: Very kid friendly. The bathroom is stocked.
The decor and atmosphere was great and their plant-based options were even better. Before dining here I had lost hope for dining out for a vegan brunch and after eating here my faith has been restored. I will be back soon to try out some of the other items on their menu 10/10 would recommend. I ate it so fast I forgot to take a photo for my review. Vegetarian options: Their vegan options were tasty and filling I can finally get rid of the awful past memories Ive had at other restaurants where the only option they had that was vegan was hash browns. If you are vegan or vegetarian I highly recommend trying this place out!
Fabulous restaurant not to be missed! I ve heard of Boateng on the catering side and for past couple of years always wanted to try out the restaurant. We parked by curb. During lunch time on a Sunday there is a short wait line for the busy, bright, and character cafe. Friendly waiter and waitresses take drink order at your table or you may place it at the cash register. Wanting to try the known for cuisine we ordered a vegetarian yam benny and an African bowl. After a bit of wait time for the order the two dishes arrived looking photo shoot ready and appetizing. The yam is soft and textured. Sweetness of the root complimented well by avocado and curry dressings. Pickled vegetables aren t overpowering the taste of other ingredients like yam or egg. To note, the well done style of the eggs could be modified to diner s liking. Their house made lemonade is at my acceptable level of sournesses. Coffee is available and the selection of desserts in the display cooler look tempting. For sure will return to try out different items on the menu.
We brought 8 little girls here for a birthday party. With no reservations for brunch we still called ahead of time. Showed up 30 min before the party started and they were able to put a table together in minutes! The staff was beyond amazing mentioning when the kids would order extra drinks or food making sure we were okay with it. It made our daughters day so special and made new always customers for a all the kids who haven t been there before. For such a large group the food was amazing, hot and fresh, the girls were doted on and had the best experience! So happy!! Vegetarian options: Say more? So many options for vegis! Dietary restrictions: My daughter is a vegetarian and this is her fav restaurant for all the options, other kids at the party are beyond picky but there was something for everyone! Kid-friendliness: This was her 11th birthday and she wanted to go here with brunch with friends. Not sure what to expect with this many littles but was super accommodating. Was told to mention the banana bread French toast is the best!
Just went there for dinner and it was amazing. The food was incredible and the service was top notch. The staff was so friendly and interactive it made the atmosphere very enjoyable. Will most definitely be going back.
This is my new favorite restaurant in greater Victoria. For the quality of food Boateng is very affordable. The atmosphere is absolutely lovely and their homemade hot sauce cannot be beat. The service is always top notch. I cannot find a single flaw.
Dry and tasteless food. apparently, homemade which is absolutely tasteless for that very high price. Burger bun was super dry. Service was absolutely terrible, Super super pricy, beef patty was something I dont know,..! One of the place that I will never go back and Ill be keep regretting for my last visit with my family.
Heather is a great bar mixologist. She mixes the most delicious potions The Spiced Espresso Martini is an Award winning worthy and a must try. Food
We ate here for our Valentines Day date night and were very impressed. Amazing food, great presentation and the service was top notch. If you havent checked them out yet, youre missing out.
Coffee & goodies were great. Though we didn t have lunch, the food sure looked and smelled good.
Great food and staff.
We had brunch with our friends, and the experience was very nice. I highly recommend it, everything was very good, and the atmosphere is very nice
I loved my brunch here. The vegan option was incredible. Ill be back next time I go to Vancouver Island!
I love HOB and have always had great experiences. Recently though I visited for breakfast and it was so disappointing. My eggs and toast were both cold, and the sausage looked so unappetizing (like they were boiled and also just slightly warm) I couldn t eat them. I hope it was a one off.
Great menu, very fusion. Service is so friendly, two thumbs up
Dog friendly heated patio. Great friendly atmosphere. Creative-casual fusion menu. Pork belly sandwich was great. Love their desserts and tarts. Good lattes. Potatoes were a bit dry inside but overall experience. Food : 5/5
I love this wonderful place! Delicious food, yummy cakes and nice drinks, friendly service and cozy environment. Highly recommend African Bowl, this is my new favorite restaurant recently
This was my time ever going to this cafe. Amazing experience. The food was so delicious and the place is so cozy. I would definitely recommend to everyone
Delicious all around! I will be coming back specifically for the honeycomb latte but everything we are was superb as well.
Chandra, Chandra, Chandra!
Best breakfast place on the island! Perfect portions and flavours with seasonal menu changes, and a delicious rotating display of sweet treats too. Absolutely worth every penny (and more)!
We were so happy to have House of Boateng cater our wedding! It was important to us to have a vegetarian or vegan wedding, and HOBs vegan menu was outstanding. It really felt like the chefs were having fun creating the menu, and made creative, beautiful, and delicious vegan food. We were also able to set up a tasting at the Café while we were deciding, and we were blown away by the creativity and intricacy of the vegan food on offer here. Oftentimes plant based food can feel a bit like an afterthought, and here we really felt that it was an important part of the menu. Thank you HOB!
My wife and I had lunch at the house of Boateng yesterday. Unbelievable food, unique, fresh and good portions for a good price. Outstanding service as well, thank you. Our first visit but certainly not our last Vegetarian options: Vegan Benny. Incredible
One of the beat places to have breakfast. The orders are large!
Best breakfast place in Langford. Bring back the halloumi crepe!!
Hippy Benny and Fried chicken sandwich
Both my partner and I had the African Breakfast Bowls and they were delicious! It was a great breakfast in the sun
Had lunch here for the first time, with friends. Great service, such delicious food, so fresh, great flavours, and will be back again for sure. Wonderful experience.
It is absurdly disrespectful that this place doesnt come up on top when looking for the top brunch places in the Vic area. For the same price as certain amazing places that cook food out of a Sysco freezer bag, you can get a truly delicious meal, crafted and served by wonderful individuals from real ingredients. Unquestionably the best in Langford, if not the whole of Victoria. Vegetarian options: Amazingly complex vegetarian options available.
I can say its an interesting menu, Try something if you can, some combinations are really rare but... they wont disappoint you. As a chef, Im still learning and the chef of this place just risk everything he know to share others how to eat. Amazing culture flavors and colors. I love it, and Im coming back to try the confit
Had the green eggs and ham, crab eggs benny, duck dish, and some kind of pulled pork dish (?). They were all pretty good! Love their hot sauce as well. You go up to order and theyll bring the food to your table. The first time we went, there was some issue with their machine and it took a really long time to order and get our food, but apart from that, weve had a lovely experience! Will definitely come back for more brunches :)
Good service and a great space. Most favourite things for me to eat were the desserts, slice of rose cake and slice of passion fruit chocolate cake. I was excited about the African bowl but it was a bit of a disappointment, it s just not flavourful enough and it s certainly not jollof rice. My partner got mushroom waffles and that tasted way better. Honey comb latte and ginger beer for drinks were nice. I would return to try some other things on the menu.
Upon entering the café we showed up to the counter to order a coffee, the girl there couldnt get to us immediately. But then a server came up asking us if we had a table so we figured it was table service. She proceeded to guide us to a table, bring menus and waters then told us to go order at the counter. Kind of off putting and confusing. I shortly went to place my order. After having received our food and drinks we did not get any follow up whatsoever if we needed anything or if everything was good. We did, and it wasnt. We sat there for quite some time before I gave up and stood in line to pay the bill. Once there, the server only blurted out the amount, with no attempt at the usual chit chat or asking if we had enjoyed our meal. Very poor customer service, and this is coming from someone working in the industry over a dozen years. The prices dont reflect the service at all either. Too much disorganized service and disregard to basic service étiquette to justify the prices. Food was very average. First time, and last time.
Worth driving to langford for! Food is always great and the kitchen is always bustling. Beautiful space and friendly staff. Different from anywhere else - just go!
We liked this cafe/restaurant so much we went back for a second day for coffee and breakfast during our vacation. The coffee was excellent, as was the food. Service was exceptional. I can t believe this place isn t busier than it is!
Simply superb.
HoB is a lovely neighbour gem with super delicious & unique dishes, stellar service & cozy ambience! It is a delight to dine here each & every time with family or friends. Our fave dishes are halloumi crepes, hippie benny & vegetarian shashuka. Our daughter loves the kids full breakfast. YUM!! Then usually a tumeric latte with dessert to cap things off. Chef Castro is a creative culinary visionary & his crew are caring, consummate pros. A visit to HoB promises to be an unforgettable highlight of your day. Akwaaba!
Fresh Local ingredients and amazing food! We visited on Father s Day and had a table out in the patio. It s located on a busy street, so we sat right by the traffic. Wasn t too disturbing tho. (I d recommend indoor seats) Food
Large outdoor patio. Dog friendly! Amazing service with very kind and super friendly staff that obviously care about their food and drink. The mocha was probably one of the best I ve ever had. We had green eggs and ham and the crab benny. The flavours in each of the dishes were outstanding. Highly recommend!
I had the Shakshuka. It was good but we had to wait an hour to get our food! The room looks nice but it has a terrible echo. It was so loud that I couldnt hear the person across the table from me.
Mixed feelings since we received one really good dish super fast and one overcooked Jamaican patty super late at a not busy hour. Overall need to come and try again judge fairly.
Great local eatery. Love the brunch. Always friendly service. Food
Great spot for brunch. Had the yam Benedict which was so yummy and comes with tasty potatoes. Nice ambiance and service. Would highly recommend!
I love it here so much! The food is amazing, so much flavour!
Love this place. It is around 10 minutes drive to Hatley Castle. A breakfast or lunch choice before or after visiting Hatley Castle. The food and service here are great.
Great little spot. Lots of outdoor seating, menu eclectic and unique. Bit loud and warm sitting inside for breakfast (summer time) however.
Great food, great service, will definitely be back!
Really incredible fusion food.
Creative menu, pet friendly. Indoor & outdoor seating with heaters and blankets.
Phenomenal. This place deserves way more than 5 and I see why my friends whove been here raved about this place. Great to finally cross it off my foodie bucket list and it was a joy to dine with company today. Originally I was here for breakfast but when they said jerk chicken is in the menu, my appetite widens up for lunch too. Normally I dont order drinks as water is fine with me but their tumeric ginger lemonade was simply mouthwatering and refreshing. They also sell rubs, dressings, sauces and other confectioneries. I would love to stock up on those but will have to wait until after I have settled with my move. Parking: Parking lot is close by but fills up fast due to popularity so dont be too picky as far location goes. I believe there is street parking available if all else fails but fortunately I didnt have to resort to this yet.
This was our first time at the cafe. After being seated, we were told to order from the counter and the staff would bring us our food and drinks. We ordered the BBQ smoke-infused cajun chicken and plantain off the specials menu. Amazing! The taste, quality and presentation were outstanding and well worth seeking out the next time they offer this plate. I enjoyed the meal with an americano and sugar-coated donut which were both delicious. We will definitely be back to try the other dishes.
Went there for my partners birthday along with some family. Everyone had something different and we all really enjoyed what we had. Prices were good and some great culinary creativity on display. Looking forward to going back!
HOB - incredible place for breakfast / brunch, exceptional food and service. Always a pleasant experience. I ve come to frequent weekly, unique menu and Moroccan fusion. From the menu. Whole breakfast. Chicken sandwich and bowels are my go too!
The crab eggs, Benny, is delicious! A are the potatoes.
Hands down some of the best food and service I have had in a LONG time. Duck waffles are so so amazing.
Everytime we have come here, we are always impressed with not only the food, but as well as the service. Their HOB sauce for purchase is the best versatile sauce you will ever have. Highly recommend if you are a foodie!
Never in all my brunching, have I received two PERFECT medium eggs with my Benny! Huge kudos to Branden (sorry if I got the name wrong from the server)
The worst fried chicken sandwich I had recently. Chicken was dry and the flavour was not great either. 2 stars for the crispy bun and fried potato. Disappointed.
Im not sure what everyone is raving about. I really didnt like the food. First off, this concept of tipping before you receive service is absolutely ridiculous to me. You order at the counter and pay before you eat. This may work in countries where tipping isnt customary, but it really doesnt work here. I ordered the full breakfast with sausage, and it was far from delicious. They use sausages from glenwood meats, which are amazing sausages that I have made at home before. However, I was served boiled sausages that were dried out and left all the flavour in the boiled water still in the kitchen. Never boil sausages! Especially if you are charging $20 for a simple breakfast. My eggs were cooked well. I had hollandaise on the side because they dont have a decent Benny on the menu, but it lacked seasoning and was thick like pancake batter. The potatoes had no seasoning either and were not great. My partner had the crab Benny, which came on a yam. It was just strange, and the fusion did not work together. The brewed coffee was almost un-drinkable. Theres strong coffee, and then theres just excessive use of grounds that turn coffee into a bitter cup of black sludge. Their coffee was the latter. Overall, I didnt like the concept, the delivery, or the food, and I will not be going back.
Hands Down best food ive had on the island!!!
We had a fantastic experience with HOB catering our wedding. Their chef and server joined us on-site, so the food was extra fresh. Everything tasted amazing and Hector was on point the entire evening to make sure we were happy. Sherrie did a great job in the back-end ensuring that all our dietary needs were accounted for. Overall, we would recommend HOB catering to any other engaged couples, especially those planning smaller weddings and wanting a more personal touch.
The fried chicken sandwich was super dry and not crispy at all. Super disappointed as I was really looking forward to trying this place after seeing all the good reviews. My boyfriends full breakfast was also super bland with little to no flavour. I would recommend anyone to go to the rhino across the street which has superior food and drinks. The customer service was also super disappointing as they didn t offer to remake the food or do anything more besides a refund.
One of the best shakshuka I ever had in a restaurant! Friendly service and good vibes all around.
North African cafe, delicious food and excellent service
Absolutely phenomenal! My partner and I have been talking about going back today for breakfast after such a wonderful experience on Sunday morning! Absolutely the best Crab Benny in town and the Shakshuka bowl has had my partner wanting to go back for days! Fantastic! As someone who has lives in Langford for over 20 years, there is no better café in town! I implore anyone who loves high-quality food to give this lovely place a try!
Very good food!
What an amazing place!!! 6/5 stars and highly recommend
Only one star as we couldnt park. So we drove on. Too bad as we have heard good things about the food.
Its on Google as an African restaurant, but the meals seem to be more foreign than African. Ordered for yam, got potatoes. Non-Africans might not know the difference but Africans do! Serving jollof in a native pot is okay but the raw leaves (not African vegetables) destroyed the jollof. The meat pie redeemed my taste buds though. Suffice it to say, besides the name, which is Ghanaian, not much Africaness is within.
Interesting, diverse menu options with enthusiastic staff. Lots more of road noise not much the staff can do about that.
First time here visiting some friends, the atmosphere is very welcoming. Seating has pillows and comfortable chairs. Desserts are on display and look delicious. I had the honor of meeting one of the chefs Sam and the food that was made was definitely 5 start and I highly suggest this lovely place to anyone. Will be coming back when I visit again thanks to all the staff for making my experience a great one.
Exceptional.
Hippie Benny was so good
Great service and amazing food.
Dropped by for brunch, the food was really tasty! The bennys are served on a slice of sweet potato rather than an english muffin which I didn t expect lol. We were seated in the heated patio which was nice and toasty, although there was a little dried up spider hanging down on a thread right above our table
Are you looking for a restaurant that serves gourmet food. Where the waitresses and Waiters know whats actually on the plate and present it to you in an artistic fashion then look no further definitely worth a shot and well go back again!
Dinner on the patio was amazing!! Great service and outstanding food. Beet salad was a delicious combination of flavours. Husband had the pork belly and it was so tender and flavourful.
Great top rated place for brunch or dinner. Delicious and worth the trip.
Truly inspired dishes.
There s always a lineup to get in. Wait wasn t too long, 10-15 minutes. Servers are nice and welcoming. Once you are seated, you have to go to the counter to order and pay for your meal. This method doesn t really give you the after option of tipping the servers for the service. Has a nice happy family café feel to it. Food tasted good, jollof rice was the Ghanaian style, good spice too! Good presentation of food.
The tasting menu is an absolute must try! A wonderful succession from dish to dish, the team in the kitchen provided for an amazingly delicious evening. The varied dishes highlighted the brightness of summer in both colour and flavour while also offering complementary tanginess of house made pickled veg; the savoury, sweet & smokey spice of North African harissa; and a host of other surprises. While one should expect that the tasting menu will change as the seasons change, I trust that no matter when you choose to visit you ll have an experience to remember. A note for the cautious: I ve had a few tasting menus in the recent past from other restaurants in Victoria and this was arguably the most accessible in terms of flavours. If you re ready to jump out of your comfort zone and let the kitchen steer, this is the perfect restaurant to do so. An aside: we were so taken by our meal that we bought 3 jars of their preserves (a harissa sauce, pickled fiddleheads and a curry sauce).
Great food!
Great food and cocktails, cant wait to go back and try something else!
Beautiful presentation. We went there for Valentine s Day and we were pleasantly surprised by how much work and dedication they put into this set menu. Their brunch is also fantastic and I highly recommend it if you want to spend a bit less.
Fantastic food and drinks!
After receiving many recommendations to try HOB, I finally made it out. They had great vegetarian and vegan options. It was so refreshing to see veggie-friendly breakfast & lunch options that weren t just the usual eggs Benedict or breakfast sandwiches. The food was creative and tasted phenomenal. Definitely worth the drive to Langford from Victoria.
What a great place! We were there for dinner. The food was to die for, and although its 5-star gourmet food, the atmosphere is totally laid back. The staff were very attentive and friendly. We ordered the seared scallops starter, which was incredible, and the organic game hen for a main course. Every morsel on the plates, right down to the drizzle was delicious. Although the prices are up there, its well worth it. We will be going back for brunch very soon :)
the first cafe where reviews match reality! original presentation, fresh products! for a busy morning, the order was brought pretty quickly
We were in on Saturday evening and not only was the food incredible but the service was top notch! I only wish I asked for our servers name so I could include it in the review and give them a shout out. We were the first table in for dinner and seated in a cozy corner by the front door.. he had a really cool manicure. Thanks for an amazing dinner House of Boateng!
Great drinks and food!
Best restaurant in Langford, trust me. Amazing food, great quality, and healthy ingredients. Awesome staff - they feel like a family. Inclusive and safe environment. Beautiful atmosphere. Quick service. You can keep it causal and go with your kids for lunch, or dress up for a fancy dinner. Dietary restrictions: All homemade. Can get tons of GF/Vegan options Parking: Free, easy Kid-friendliness: Absolutely easy with kids. Colouring stuff at the front door to help yourself
Atmosphere was great and staff were nice. Food was not good. It was very bland and wasnt enjoyable. The hot sauce was tasty though!
Blown out of the water by our experience at House of Boateng this Thursday. We were served by a phenomenal individual who was both knowledgeable and so passionate about the food and the company that the entire experience was made that much more inspiring. Each plate was like a cocktail of experience, the textures, flavors and presentation of the food will long be remembered. Thank YOU House of Boateng for bringing your A-Game
Neat place. Great food.
Absolutely delicious brunch. Coffee was hot and fresh. Service was great. The flavours of the food were the best I ve had in a long time. Awesome place to come if you have food sensitivities as the menu works in so many ways for those of us who are gluten and dairy free.
The food was delicious, beautifully presented, and a friendly atmosphere. I highly recommend! Dietary restrictions: A couple had brought their pet to the outside patio, so your furry friend can come along.
Love it here, especially now that they have the heated patio! Tasty, unique, high quality food with a casual atmosphere.
