449 Kent St W, Lindsay, ON K9V 2Y4, Canada
Easygoing local chain for fried & grilled cod, halibut & other seafood, plus fresh-cut fries.
First time here, and it will be our new fish n chips go-to place in Lindsay. Had take-out. Got home, opened up the boxes and almost fell over with the size of the pieces of fish. Very thin batter. Not greasy at all. Amazing! Reasonably priced. Staff very friendly. Very clean restaurant, even where I could see into the kitchen. I'd give it 10 stars out of 5 if I could lol.
The onion rings was very small and the fish wasn’t cook enough. My wife and was sick after we ate
Excellent food, not greasy, just enough batter, fries cooked perfectly!
I went in for take-out tonight. Excellent friendly service and excellent quality of food!! The prices are very reasonable. It's a long weekend and it took less than 30 minutes to prepare. The owner is very nice and a great cook!! The restaurant is super clean. I will definitely be ordering from there again.
4 average seems about right. Fast friendly service almost seems like a fast food place. Food is decent fish a tad overcooked batter is nice. Poutine is ok but nothing special
Fast and friendly, great fish and chips. Fresh and light.
The food portions were good. The sweet potato fries were perfect. The take out was okay, but as we live 25 minutes away, everything was fairly greasy. Eat in or live close by.
The minimum tip option for takeout is 18%. With that in mind, the cheapest fish and chips takeout for one costs $20. This comes with one piece of fish and some fries. The quality was pretty good except for the prepackaged "tartar sauce" that comes from a factory in Toronto. The fries were awesome. Overall food is good but prices are out of control. Pic shows what you get for $20. Lemon for scale.
Fast and efficient take out friendly staff
Courteous staff, food was very good. Prices reasonable.
Absolutely awful. Not hot at all! Cold fries and oily fish. Won t order there again.
Daily specials are good deals
Fish was overpriced, dry, and tasteless.
Amazing fish and chips!
We had wait 3 hrs food was cold
Great fish and chips.
Haddock and chips is so tasty and meal deals most every day! Consistently great food and friendly service. Thank you!
Not the same as it used to be.
We had our first take away diner tonight, 4 adults ,food was great, service was great, the gentleman helped me bring bags in my car it was amazing. Only one thing is that you forgot ketchup, tartar sauce and vinegar...other then that all was good
Nice people running the place. $7.99 Tuesday cod and chips special. Great value.
The man who showed us to a table and served us was wonderfully friendly. The fish and chips were hot, fresh and scrumdiddlyumptios. Parking: Right outside the door.
Extremely good lunch highly recommend
Order the cod! You will not be disappointed! Courteous, clean and good prices. We will be back - oh and the fries were perfect! Parking: Close
Fresh tasty fast and a fair price what more can you ask for !!
I ordered and paid for a family pack of halibut and chips and I believe I got haddock and chips. The fish was dark, dry and chewy.
Pleasantly enjoyed trying this place. Our meal was ready in 20 minutes from calling to picking up. Food was hot. It was delicious. The cleanliness of this restaurant was nice to see very friendly knowledgable staff will definitely be returning.
Just ordered takeout and the food was really good. My big negative experience is that they unknown to me added an 18% tip. I only found out about it after I paid when the guy thanked me for the tip!! Unacceptable. So buyer beware.
Had take out. Halibut tasted like rubber
Customer services was very poor definitely not coming back . They never ask you if you need anything just stairs from a distance.
New owners, not as many chips as before
I am forced to give it a one in order to post but would not even give this a negative one sadly. We have been a bunch of times over the 3 years that we have lived up here & it has always been great. But tonight was the second time since there was what appears to be a change of ownership, & we will sadly not be back. The fish was so greasy that the bag was coated before even leaving the store. By the time we got home (around the corner) I couldn t even handle the fish to plate it, it was that greasy, it just broke up into itself. Then once we went to eat it, the fish was not even fully cooked. The fish was mushy & so greasy most of the coating came off while plating. Really sad to lose this once gem in Lindsay. If you go back to your great ways let us know & we will return but like it is now, it will be a hard NO !!!
The halibut & chips were delicious. The food w s piping hot & the staff is very friendly & helpful.
Expensive!!! Too expensive! Quick cooking :). I should have paid more to get Halibut fish. We would like to support local restaurants, but being so very expensive, we will make our visits to the Halibut House Very rare in the future. The place was not very full when we were there. If one does not mind paying, this place is worth the visit.
First time in this evening. It was quiet which for myself and my partner was a welcoming atmosphere after a busy noisy day. The halibut and chips was delicious. Great portions and fast friendly service. We will return again.
Got the smallest piece of fish I ever got and paid the most I ever paid for ok fish
Clean Friendly staff Fries and gravy are really tasty Food : 5/5
Excellent fish and chips. The sole special on Tuesday is 7.99, large portion and delicious! The coleslaw is fresh and homemade as well. Very good.
This has to be one of the worst Fish n Chips place ever. The fish is dry and spongy with no flavor whats so ever. The fries are old, flavorless and stale. I went a second time to see if it was just a bad experience but that second time was even worse than the first. Honestly have no idea how this place is still open with such terrible food and not to forget over priced for the garbage they serve
The absolute worst Cod I ve ever had I feel like they butterfly their fillets to make more money. Found it very overpriced versus the actual portion that was hiding in the very greasy batter, and the fries were horrible. It will be very unlikely that I ever attend the halibut house ever again due to that experience.
Fish is a bit too oily for me, they should drain the oil. But taste is great.
Very expensive halibùt, small square piece of halibut fish, with the batter not crispy but almost soggy and fries sets you back 24 bux. Meh.
Fish and chips were very greasy. Will not stop here again.
Fish is tasty! Service good! But don t eat longer than 15min. I always eat in my car. It s really good.
Food was great, and prices were even better! Loved it.
Had a wonderful family dinner last weekend. Great fish and chips. The seafood platter was the best.
The fish was soggy and the waitress and servers were even unfriendly
Best fish and chips in Lindsay
Had the house special lunch. Food prepared perfectly. Quality and size of shrimp, scallops were great. Fries were the best I ve had in a while. Very clean restaurant with friendly staff. Not your typical fast food place the food is high quality. I will be eating here again!
Best food
Halibut lunch was great. Not greasy at all. Service was also great.
The fish was flakey and tender, the chips could have been cooked longer thats why only a 4
Food is delicious always get fish and chips great service everytime
Great food, great service, great staff the orice is Right - great deals for huge portions
Had a horrible experience last time. So tried again. Fish was cooked proper this time. Haddock was great. French fries needed ALOT OF WORK. VERY BLAND they are tasteless. No salt straight from the fryer into the takeout container. Taste like they are days old. Like you put McDonalds fries in the microwave. Fries arent consistent so some are cold and hard like a fresh potatoes.
Fish and chips made like we know it. Clean place, washrooms were pristine. Thank you
Delicious food, great staff and a great deal on Wednesdays
Enjoyed my Seafood platter immensely! Service was very friendly, and it was fast. Food was delicious! I hadnt had seafood in a while and I thought I would splurge and get a little bit of everything, I was not disappointed! Will definitely be coming back!
The meal was not worth the extravagant price of $75! The phone service when placing the order was unclear and very poorly executed by the staff. 45 minutes was a long time to wait, considering the small town we we ordering in. A drink was also forgotten and not discovered until after the driver was long gone. We ll never order from here again. I m only giving one star because the review won t post with O stars!
Tempura battered onion rings, good home cut russet fries. Nice light crispy battered halibut. Only slight disappointment was I would have liked a larger thicker potion of halibut.
Always good food! Hot, fresh, fast, friendly. Could give a small coleslaw with the fish. Parking: Lots of parking.
Great experience friendly staff , great food , great price
First time visit it was absolutely wonderful, the Halibut was perfect, chips wonderful and the gravy was great. We will be back for sure . Thank you Halibut House. Returned for second visit just as good as the first visit , certainly the leader in Lindsay for fish and chips. Definitely recommend. We went today Aug 31st 2022 we had the Special King Cod it was lovely the fish was moist and the batter was perfect chips done to perfection and the Cole slaw was really good well done .thank you Halibut house Lindsay
Always Friendly service in a timely manner. Good sized portions.
Too much money but check for yourself, food is always the best, deep fried dills were so good,, sweet potatoes fries yeah great and fish with Greek salad delicious
Really not impressed. $60 dollars including tip, two orders of halibut, 1 with Ceasars salad the other with ORings. There were 5 orings, no tartar for any of the two. Frankly, this is not hard a little attention to customer service would go a long way. Can only imagine what the review would ve like if it was you at the recing End. Nope never again.
Excellent frendly best fish&chips &priced reasonably for the times
Parking: Lots of parking Food
Poor customer service. Waitress only took order and brought food didnt ask if we needed anything. When we asked it was like she had better things to do. Asking for tips 18 to 30 percent is an insult to all minimum wage workers, that actually does personal services. Like health care workers
Delicious food, good service and a wonderful, clean and bright atmosphere! Loved it!
Absolutely the worse fish and chips I ever had . French fries not cooked and fish under cooked
Fish dinner was more like kids meal
Horrible, overpriced kids meal
Just paid over 40 dollars and cant tell you how bad it was. Never again will we order from them
First time to a Halibut House location. I was really impressed with the speed of service and the quality of the food. The server was checking up on us frequently to ensure everything was to our liking but, not in a hovering always over your shoulder amount of time lol. We ordered some onion rings and battered mushrooms as appetizers and both were great. Probably some of the biggest and best battered mushrooms I have ever had, comes with 6 caps. We had the halibut and everything was fresh and tasty. Lightly breaded and crispy fish, fresh cut fries, and the coleslaw was quite fresh and tasty (vinegar based). First time and very impressed, I will return.
Really good
One day I wish to visit there
Worst halibut i have ever had. Flat square dry barely battered frozen dry fries. $13.00 for a piece of dry fish...really?
Delicious
Great fish dinner...friendly staff..great place to eat
Worst battered haddock ever. Lukewarm n barely crispy n way, way too expensive for what it was. Never buying from here again..
Order here 2-3 times a month, never dissatisfied. Very broad menu that can accommodate everyone.
I really enjoyed lunch order of halibut and chips. Onion rings were very good.
Great service and food. Best breakfast in Lindsay!
Good food, good price, good people will be returning.
Great breakfast and fantastic service by the server. Will definitely be back again.
When I go to Lindsay to visit my mom we both love to go out for fish and chips. Staff are great and so are the prices. This is one fish and chip restaurant that permits eat in which we like
Fish was lightly batterd nice and golden. Fries were typical chips, thick.
Fast service, nice fish, but fries always taste like theyve been under the warming light...kinda yucky!
Good food and friendly service.
Always good food and service. Really good value...
Great food nd service
Excellent staff and pricing. Good fish but the batter overwhelms it, which is a shame because the batter is also very tasty. Interesting coleslaw, quite unique and good. Shrimp and Calamari are excellent.
I am angry at myself for not going here sooner. The prices are very reasonable and they have specials on some days. I got the $10 Haddock and Chips special and it was the best fish and chips I ve ever had. The fish was flavourful, the batter was light and crispy, and not at all greasy. The chips are hand cut and soooooo good! My son had the chicken tenders and he loved them, very tender and flavourful. This is a must-stop!
Large portions, great food and great service. Will be revisiting for sure.
I found it to greesy
Just ordered fish and chips, one piece of fish was cold and dry like sawdust, the other dripping in grease This order was over $40 and it was not edible.. will not go again.. never know what you are going to get Not consistent..
What a great experience The food was amazing the waitress was so kind and even before we where going to leave and wanted a coffee to go they made a fresh pot and dug out there take out cups Definitely will be back Roelie from Bobcaygeon
Fantastic food and service. My halibut with Greek salad was delicious
We got take out and just found everything very greasy and soggy when we got it home
Sweet potatoe fries were awsome.
Best fish n chips .. awesome wait staff and service highly recommended
The worst halibut and chips ever anywhere. First time trying here ..never again. 40 bucks for 2 orders of the most terrible halibut and chips. Fish was dry couldnt even eat it, and fries were just as bad 40 bucks to the trash. Will stick with captain Georges for now on . Lesson learned...YUCK !
The food and service were both great.
Great service by Apple and amazing food!
It was rough. My fiance and I got the special on Monday, which is basically just fish and chips for $10. It was soaking wet because of the grease. We had to put everything in an air fryer to crisp it up. Nothing had any salt on it either. Definitely didnt feel too good afterwards. Theres infinitely better fish and chips spots in town. Skip Halibut House and spend your money on a local establishment.
Great fish good service
Food tasted great and fresh, the restaurant is very clean. Its an open kitchen and you can see how clean it is kept! The server was very nice as well.
Great breakfast, having owners child running around not so great.
Best fish ever. Cooked to perfection. Owner is friendly. Premises very clean. Good pricing
Well we bought the family pack of halibut...if your looking for real fish and chips, your NOT getting it here, it was like highliner except they added an extra pound of grease...everything was soggy, the fries were not done, the cole slaw was bland... DO NOT WASTE your MONEY get a pizza or burger... Worst I have ever had... learn how to make a batter and do it the RIGHT WAY...
First time I used the online order, I turned up at the prearranged time, the order cost less then the online price, unfortunately the fish was cool inside and the batter was greasy.
Food was good and its very clean! Nice staff too.
The specials for each day is always great and a good deal.
Great halibut fish and chips, service mediocre fairly clean atmosphere.
Great service, wonderful staff and I loved the house special Dish.
Not bad
Excellent OPENING day, Fish was fresh, light batter, fries were fresh Cut. Friendly staff and prompt service
Good fish and chips
Great food!! Great service!! Friendly, polite staff. Highly recommend!
Well, I have to say I was disappointed! My daughter was down visiting me and we decided we wanted fish and chips for dinner, Id heard great things about the Halibut House so we decided to give it a try. I ordered two halibut dinners to go, the bill was $32.00 and change. When I went in to pick up our order I realized there was only one box in the bag and I asked the young lady where the second dinner was. It seemed she misunderstood and thought I only wanted 2 pieces of halibut and chips. Wow, $32.00 for two pieces of fish and chips! Then she offered to get me a second order of chips and since my daughter was sitting in the car waiting I decided to go that route so we could get going. More fun and confusion, she told me she would have to charge me an extra $2.00 for the aditional chips, then she told me sorry, it was $3.00 not $2.00, by the time I finally got my chips it had gone up to $5.00. So, $37.00 and change for two pieces of fish and chips, no coleslaw or lemon. The food was good but not that good and the staff seemed very inexperienced, the one young lady had to get a calculator out to try and figure out change from a $50.00. So would I go back, probably not, while the food was good I dont feel its good value for what we did get.
Amazing food and excellent service!
Exceptional service, food and value...best place Ive eaten in Lindsay! Great for kids too
We have tried the takeout twice. Portion size was good, however the fish was overcooked and tough the first time and undercooked the second to the point of having raw batter on the fish. They also missed part of our order. Calling the restaurant was a complete waste of my time as all the staff could apparently say was ya and ok after I had to explain twice that the fish was undercooked. I eventually hung up after a few oks and yas without them actually acknowledging my problem. Disappointed to say the least and I am not going back, nor would I recommend it to anyone.
Light batter. Perfect, semi-dry fish. Really good.
I was disappointed. Taste is not comparable to capt. Georges. Prices arent either. Waitress never came back to fill our water glasses or ask how everything was. Will not go back.
Fries were overcooked, unlike gta area Halibut House where they give u a big helping of fries and cokesaw not served in a small bowl. Very disappointed
Nice food and service. Will come back for sure.
Had the haddock and chips on their Monday special. The fish was huge! Pictures dont even do it justice, because the plates are so big. Chips were great too. Went for the breakfast one day. It was really good also.
Fish was tasty but batter was oil saturated. Perhaps oil not hot enough. Fries were not cooked through as oil not hot enough. Oily and mushy! I have been to other Halibut Houses and they are great. Perhaps some one could advise the franchisee of how to cook your brand name.
My wife brought home some of the fish and chips tonight for supper. I was not impressed by the fish, VERY greasy and did not seem to be very fresh. Fries were ok. I would have to think twice before eating there again.
One of the most friendly staffed places Ive ever been to. This is our go to spot. The food is awesome and service is great. Definitely reccomend!!!
We ordered 2 halibut dinners, one with fries and one with onion rings. The fish was overcooked and the onion rings were almost burnt while the fries could have been cooked more. They looked to be a bit busy at the time so I will try a second time hoping for better results.
Staff was extremely cooperative and restaurant was clean and indoor dining was maintained at safe distance
I had the lunch special, halibut chips and slaw, 10.95. Good food and nice attentive service, I will return.
Excellent service and food
Great food
