Flavours were really lacking unfortunately. Service was slow. They were nice enough to give us a private room, but then forgot about us several times. Also pricey for what it was. Have had much better sushi elsewhere.

Good location. Decent decor 3.5/5, lacks refinement. The service 2.5/3 out of 5 felt unprofessional at times. The waitresses lacked service etiquette re: the interaction with customers e.g., huddling in small groups to speak about customers - inexperienced/unprofessional. Food was good 4/5. The lamb chops and Octopus were cooked well. The octopus is not a main as youll need another dish to go with but this may not be necessary if you have starters or are doing a low carb diet. Hygiene/Cleanliness 2.5/3 out of 5. The chef sneezed or held his nose to sneeze n then went straight on to touch chicken thighs. Could do with a better kitchen ventilation system to help eliminate the smoke/smell from the kitchen.

We had the MOST incredible lunch to celebrate my partner s birthday! We ordered the tasting menu for the festive season and the food was out of this world, with particular highlights being the salmon cerviche and wagyu beef. The Moldavian Merlot was delicious and Denis kindly offered us a tasting of their other wines. They whole experience was fantastic, we cannot recommend it enough!

This place is terrific for Nikkei food. Thats the cuisine of the Japanese diaspora in Peru. Think Japanese food that uses some non traditional South American ingredients such as chillis and coriander. Most purveyors of Nikkei food in London are exhorbitant but Bamboo Mat is reasonably priced and excdellent too. We usually order a tiradito or ceviche, followed by maki rolls and maybe finish with one of their great value meaty mains (big portions).

Absolutely lovely place! We had an amazing date night with my hubby, taking tasting menu with wine pairing - enjoyed every piece and every moment :) Definitely recommend to visit, the extra ordinary combination of Japanese and Peruvian cuisine makes this place special. Food

Soooooooooo tasty

We ve been waiting for 50 minutes for just three portions of sushi rolls, and nobody approached us to explain the delay or even apologize for the long wait. By the time the food finally arrived, our patience was completely gone. I didn t enjoy it at all. I went there to have a nice evening, but it ended up being ruined. I ve never spent £70 with this much frustration

I had a terrible experience on my last visit. Food was good, but it took over an hour for the first starter to arrive, despite the restaurant being only half full. I had ordered two sides and two mains for the table, and not only everything arrived extremely late, they all arrived at wildly different times. There was an almost 30 minute delay between the first starter and my main, while none of my wife s order had arrived. I was done eating and we were still waiting on her order. By the end we didn t get even at least an apology. Terrible experience

This place is absolutely a hidden gem in Stratford area. Finally a decent restaurant in the neighbourhood area of East Village. The restaurant has great selection twist of Peruvian Japanese theme. So if you love raw food, this is the place to be. Although they do have some of the cooked dishes too so suitable for everyone. My favourite dish was the grilled octopus, it really had some good flavours and the texture of the octopus was tender and juicy! The sushi makis were alright nothing too special about it. One thing to really feedback would be the sauce the restaurant uses. It was a bit salty when added to some of the dishes. Overall, I think it is a great restaurant to come for some great Asian twist food! Came recently in June 2024, felt the quality of the sushi has slightly dropped in terms of rice texture. It was broken a part when tried to pick up. Hopefully this is just a one off thing. Octopus presentation was changed too. Will let customer to judge the dish presentation between last year and this year. Salmon teriyaki was cooked beautifully though! Juicy and tender!

Good food but understaffed restaurant.

Yeah this ain t it, and I really don t understand why the place is rated so high. You are essentially paying central London prices for some very mediocre food, with a single set of sushi being £16 and obviously they ll add a service charge on top of that Speaking of service, it is slow as well and we waited for over an hour between dishes, even though the place was almost empty (late evening on a Sunday). In the end, after paying almost £100 for a couple of small plates we left feeling that it was not worth the time and money spent and will not be coming back. You can find much better restaurants in London for the same value and better dishes.

Food was excellent, service was pretty poor from some staff but others were good. Would I go back?!! Yes. Will assume it was new members of staff that let the team down. When we mentioned qe wanted the service charge removed the manager came over and apologised and reduced the bill considerably. ( even though we said that wasnt necessary).

A nice, small restaurant with nice, attentive service. The sushi was very good and very exciting in terms of the mix of Japanese and Peruvian cuisine in terms of the flavor combinations. Thats why its also an experience to eat primarily Japanese food, but also to listen to the finest Spanish music. Priced commensurate with the quality.

The sashimi was nice but bento box I would not recommend. The salad had a weird taste and the chicken was too salty with a soft, chewy skin. That is supposed to be crispy.

The food was really good! The service not great, had to constantly remind the waiter of missing things. He would ask about allergies and the food brought would contain it. Even took the menus without asking what we would eat. He was probably trying his best but even laying the food on the table was questionable. Dietary restrictions: Asked but still came with the dish. (In a way that if noted the kitchen would have removed it)

We live in the area and have been to Bamboo Mat about 7 times. Every time the food is exquisite. The ceviche deluxe is delicious, with an amazing lime and mango sauce. It tastes so fresh. The quality of the fish is incredible. If youre a sushi lover, youre in the right place. We always go for the Vulcano Roll, which they torch at your table; who doesnt love a bit of dining theatre. Staff are genuine, attentive, caring and hard working. And today it was warm enough to sit outside. It was a perfect meal. Thank you so much for a lovely evening :)

The food here is an absolute masterpiece

It was our first time at Bamboo-Mat and it was an amazing experience! We were well looked after by the manager, George, who kindly navigated the menu and offered many suggestions. The standout dish of the night was the Ox Cheek. It melted beautifully and the yuzu mash underneath was sublime! We also really enjoyed the Wagyu steak and the volcano roll was so delicious! George flame torched it alongside the salmon nigiri which left a subtle smokey touch. 10/10 highly recommend for some seriously delicious and creative food. Well definitely come again and try the Summer menu! Thank you!

Food was fantastic. Best meal we have had in years. Great variety of Sushi and multiple hot dishes as well. I tried some beautiful Wagyu Beef as well as Octopus and delicious. Service was also brilliant. I only drank Diet Coke but my wife tried a couple of different cocktails and said they were excellent. Definitely will be returning

The spicy tuna roll was good, fried mozzarella ball was gross and over fried. The edamame literally had a wad of salt dumped on top. After that was served, it took another 30-45 min for a mushy sweet potato and teriyaki chicken (ok taste) to be served. Service was terrible. Would not come back.

Located in a neighbourhood that slightly away from the busy area of Stratford, surrounded by apartments and parks, which gives a relax feeling. The food was perfect, the Deluxe Ceviche is an excellent fusion of japanese raw fish and ceviche. And was lucky enough to try their new Tuna Tartar as they just release a new menu, it s good but I would personally add a little bit of wasabi in the sauce to give it a little punch. Had ox cheek and grilled octopus for the main, both were cook to perfection. Especially the octopus, didn t expect a grilled octopus would be that tender and juicy. Also ordered a vegetarian version of ceviche and roast sweet potato, just perfect as the regular dish. Just can t go wrong with their food! Not just the food, service was just perfect like the food. Warm and helpful, yet not too much. They are always there when you needed. The only part they need to rethink was the dessert. Had cheesecake, chocolate fondant and crème brûlée. They are not bad indeed, just not matching the high standard and creativity of the whole meal. I would expect something more extraordinary. Anyway, I would definitely come back again. And I am so glad to try this restaurant out!

We came for drinks and a catch-up, our original server was welcoming and made a wonderful suggestion with my coctail which I immensely enjoyed. We left an item behind but were greatful Nadiya was on the job to return it to us. Will definitely be back another time.

The food here is incredible. Fresh and expertly prepared, the menu shows real elegance. There are loads of gluten free choices which is great for me. The staff are generally well informed about food allergies and can help guide your selections. The California roll is stuffed with real crab and rolled in roe, which pop delightfully in your mouth when you bite into it. The wagyu maki is also a triumph of different flavours. The pickled wasabi really makes this dish a bit special. The owner is very friendly and they have gone out of their way to help me host events here in the past. The bathroom is seriously funky and is a point of appreciation! Highly recommend. Dietary restrictions: Caters for vegetarians, pescatarians and coeliacs. Seems to have a good understanding of food handling and I d feel comfortable eating here Wheelchair accessibility: The entry is flat and the entire restaurant is in one level. They have an accessible bathroom.

I dont usually do reviews, but when I do its because Im very impressed. I visited this place on the recommendation of friends and had a great experience. The food was amazing and I can say it is the best food I have had in a London venue. The staff were very friendly and experienced in serving and explained a history of the food. I highly recommend this place for an unforgettable experience.

I was there for my birthday dinner and our server was Gheorge which we are very happy with .. food was amazing and along with the service we felt exceptional!! Definitely recommend this place , especially on a quite day

After a few times eating at Bamboo mat stratford i decided to share my experience. This is not just food is an amazing experience of mixed tastes of japoneze and peruvian which comes with an amazing and friendly atmosphere from the waters. Top restaurant. Recommend Bamboo mat to everyone. Food

Visited Bamboo for the first time this weekend and the whole experience was amazing. The food was absolutely delicious and so so fresh. George the manager served us and was so passionate about the food advising whats best to try . He told us all about the best way to enjoy , the ingredients and their home made soy sauce. What an absolute gem in East London

Cant rate this place highly enough. Booked a table in advance as we were staying in Stratford to see Abba Voyage and was also our wedding anniversary, and so glad we booked the table. Didnt really know what to order but George ( The Manager) was so friendly and helpful in helping us choose. The food was excellent as indeed was the service. You must come here. Thank you George, youre a star.
