Fusion interesting brunch menu, with different inventive options which make it stand out from other indian restaurants. Great flavours without being overly spicy and didnt struggle with vegetarian choices. Service with a smile, cannot fault this or the food and drinks. We'll be back to work down the menu!

Wonderful food in a very relaxed, unique setting. Lovely decor and lighting. Attentive friendly staff. Fantastic experience. Don't come here expecting an Indian style curry as this is much more creative and diverse than that. Do come if you want to experience something new, which tastes great and is served by friendly people. We had the taster menu and as there were two of us, we tried one of each option and enjoyed every dish.

Fantastic, different cuisine. Delicately spiced. Absolutely delicious. We started with olives and pickled vegetables, then we both had a prawn toast scotch egg, followed by scallops then hake. We finished with desserts which were fantastic. The banana cake and pavlova were exceptional.

Fusion of Asian and southeast Asian flavours with a twist. Love the dedication bringing you flavour combinations to the pallet and relaxed convivial atmosphere. Not all dishes worked mainly, under seasoned cous cous and quail was dry but The Hake with Mussels spectacular!! Equally the desserts varied with the almond and bitter orange tart non descript however the banana bread dessert could have eaten all Over again. Definitely going back and would recommend. The no borders approach is admirable and the flavour experiments not always hitting home forgivable. Look forward to the day these independent concerns are profitable enough to show the chains you can avoid all Ultra processed food in the kitchen.

Very good experience here. The food overall was great. Ordered couple of starters, two mains and a side. The staff were attentive and the atmosphere was cosy. Starters: Marinated olives, prawn toast scotch egg & scorched blood peaches. Mains: crispy aubergine with sticky rice, pressed shoulder of Cornish lamb Sides: Okra fries - Our favourites were the scorched blood peaches and the crispy aubergine. - Prawn scotch egg was nice addition to the meal - The lamb was really tasting but had a bit of burned bottom layer. - The olives had a really good marinade. - The okra fries were average, have had better ones elsewhere so a bit disappointed with this dish. The batter was too hard and too much.

One of the best restaurants I’ve been to in my entire life, the food surprised me and was packed with flavor. The dishes were inventive and you can feel the thought and love that went to every dish. The place was warm and felt like an extension of someone’s beautiful home, this was a 10/10 experience.

What a wonderful find Jikoni is! I was lucky enough to be taken by a friend for lunch last week and I can honestly say it is one of the most enjoyable restaurant experiences I have had in a very long time. The food was absolutely delicious, with fantastic flavour combinations. Particular favourites - Crisp Kale Chaat, Charred Brussel Sprouts and Crispy Aubergine. The Banana cake dessert was exceptional! All of this served by a delightful team who are so clearly invested in what they do and ensuring that their guests have a special dining experience. If I could give Jikoni 6 stars I would and can t wait to go back!

Absolutely delicious, great ambience, food was yummy.. great fusion without losing the flavours of each ingredients. Crispy Kale, Okra fries, crispy Aubergine, Turnip, Squash pakora lemon rice... all these were awesome. Desserts were made from real cream, feels fresh and awesome...creamy Highly recommended.

Really quite disappointing. Its a pretty spot and the service was fine but the food was very disappointing and incredibly expensive. The chaat was bland - a normal chaat at any Indian restaurant would be tastier. The sheermal was dry and brittle. The crispy aubergine was fine but aubergine and rice for £24 is a joke. The meateaters in the group were underwhelmed with their dishes. The Jikoni Paani drink was absolutely revolting - it smelled of rotten eggs. At these prices the food has to be much, much better than this.

Friends have been raving about Jikoni for a while so I thought for my partners birthday it could be a good opportunity to try it out. The atmosphere is great in that relaxed chic way and the service was excellent also. Our starters of scotch egg, kale chaat and burrata were all very good. Mains were the crispy aubergine (brilliant) and the Kuku Paka curry which unfortunately hardly tasted of anything and came with barely any sauce which for a curry is disappointing. Pudding however revived the mood with a fabulous banana cake, panna cotta plus for his birthday they kindly brought an extra one being the apple crumble with a wonderful saffron custard. Overall it s pretty great with some deliciously original dishes but it was a shame about that one main and at these prices it s not easy to let that slip.

This Kenyan-Indian fusion restaurant is well operated. I still have dreams about their crispy Kale Chaat it s hands down one of the best Indian dishes I ve ever had. The kitchen team truly knows their way around fried food, as the Okra Fries were equally outstanding crispy, flavorful, and addictive. I particularly loved the Pomegranate Negroni; it was beautifully balanced and a perfect complement to the meal. My only small critique would be the portion size it felt a bit limited due to the large ice cube. Service was impeccable, rounding out a fantastic dining experience. I can t wait to return and hope that the kale chat is still on the menu!

This was our second visit. The kale chaat is my favourite starter. I have never never recommended aubergine to anyone before , but try it at Jikoni - you won t be disappointed. And don t miss the banana cake. The attentive staff is always friendly, yet discrete. Dietary restrictions: My wife has complex dietary issues, with allergies to egg white, nuts and all mammalian meat. Jikoni did an amazing job of pointing out how they could address her needs

The restaurant is appealing, & menu interesting & unique. I was really keen to try this place out. The food isnt bad but isnt overly tasty. Some of the dishes were well cooked but a bit bland. The chicken curry was melt in your mouth & fell off the bone, but was lacking flavour. The buffalo mozzarella & tomatoes dish - the tomatoes & lime dressing was great, but the cheese was dry & not fresh. Other dishes were a complete miss - Id avoid the paneer. The service is nice & friendly. Overall, Id say this place is average & would give it 6 out of 10.

Had a fantastic time at Jikoni last night. I chose the restaurant for its good selection of vegetarian options and it delivered! The food was prompt, interesting and scrumptious, and the cocktails and wine were delicious. The service was also phenomenal. The wait staff were so attentive, warm and friendly. Neither our wine glasses nor water glasses were ever empty and the staff were very knowledgeable. Moreover, the restaurant was so accommodating. One of our party had their phone stolen at Oxford Circus en route. Jikoni lent us a laptop so we could research what we needed to do and address security risks before having dinner, and reassured us the table remained ours for the whole evening. They even noticed that I was opening a few birthday presents and brought me a complementary cake at the end! Despite the stolen phone we had a wonderful experience due to their high class hospitality and food. Thank you so much Jikoni!

The service was quick and waiter was very helpful. The restaurant had a charming vibe. However, I did not like the food at all. The kale chat was super dry, I didn t taste or feel the yoghurt. The keema bun was super dry. I didn t eat my food and left the restaurant hungry.

We had a tasting menu voucher to celebrate my wifes graduation overseas in London. The food was modestly delicious overall. However, we thought the dining experience was overpriced. There were 3 courses of pickle food for appetizers. The scotch eggs were good but tiny. We enjoyed the chaat the most but the rest didnt taste too special. The texture of the gluten free dessert was odd. The 2 cocktails were outstanding but very pricey. The main courses were a bit too big and the appetizers were too small. I wish they were more generous with the proteins on appetizers. The bill was almost £200 (including the value we paid via voucher) and for the ingredients we tasted, I doubted if it was worth it. Very nice interiors though.

★★
September 22, 2024

Food was very average and underwhelming. Nothing about any of the dishes was memorable and makes you want to go back. The mushroom truffle option was alright, everything else was just a big miss. For the price as well it doesn t match up to the quality of other top restaurants in the Marylebone area. Service was good and attentive though..

Update 2024: came back after 3 years and can still claim this being one of the best restaurants in London. The food is delicious and different, combining different techniques and flavours. The mango dish and chicken dish were so tasty and the kale salad delicious. The staff is friendly and accommodating, and the space is relaxed and colourful. They have a lovely outdoor area as well. 2021: Delicious food (the tastes are so different than any other London restaurant), very friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere. Best restaurant in London

The food is somewhat okay - some dishes like the okra was good but others like the chickpea flour fries were not - just dough in your mouth. This place is not kid friendly and I think they should say that loud and clear on their website. Probably wouldnt go there again. Some of the staff was nice but others just couldnt wait for us to get out bc we had two children. Vegetarian options: Not that many vegetarian options that were yum. Some were okay. Kid-friendliness: It is NOT kid friendly at all - there arent any items for your kids to enjoy and also they dont have any seating adjustments made for kids. Not for kids!!!

Heard good things about this place but was a bit of a let down. Flavours were tasty but super ordinary & incredibly expensive for what felt like pretty ordinary dishes. Also have a bit of a gripe with the service & constantly being asked if we ve finished despite food still on plates. You are primarily paying the location, the service is aimed to be very good and the place is clean, the food is also very good but portions are small (not to say very small). I was disappointed with the chips but because they came in late, we had them for free, which I appreciated as a mark of willigness from the restaurant. Overall, a good experience but not a great value for money in my view, prices are as high as portions are small and, as I said, you are primarily paying the look and the location of the restaurant rather than anything else.

We had the mango thali and pressed Shoulder of Cornish Lamb for mains and the kale chaat, Trout Kibbeh, Pickled Fennel, courgette flower stuffed with crab for small plates. Unfortunately the mains were really disappointing. It could be that they just werent to our taste but the lamb was very bland and the texture wasnt very appetising. The mango thali had some nice sides but the curry itself was too sweet and not very well balanced- Im used to sour mango dishes with a hint of spice. The service and atmosphere was great but I personally wouldnt be recommending it based on the menu and prices. Wasnt value for money.

Ordered the 3 course menu for Lunch at £38: Starter: Crisp Kale Chaat Main: Crispy Aubergine with Sichuan Caramel Dessert: Banana cake with Miso Butterscotch Drink: Kenya Chai (£6) Service Charge (13.5%) Review: - The Chaat had a nice mix of flavour with the yoghurt and tamarind chutney combination. The crisp Kale doesnt have any kale flavour to it as all the other flavours take over within the chaat, it would taste the same with or without it. - The crispy aubergine was a nice surprise and packed a very nice punch with the sichuan caramel. A very simple dish with rice which delivers. - The banana cake with miso butterscotch topped with a kulfi was a very interesting combination of flavours. When tasting it make to have the miso sparingly with each bite otherwise it becomes overpoweringly sweet. Having a bit of kulfi with each bite makes it quite refreshing. - The Kenya Chai was decent, was expecting more masala flavour to come through however it seemed on the weaker side. Also quite pricy for 1 cup of tea. Overall you get a very nice fusion of flavours across Asia with the menu and a lot of interesting flavours. If you are going for lunch, then the set menu allows you to try a variety of dishes which I would recommend. It is on the pricier side of places in my opinion so expect to pay at least £40 - 50 per person for lunch and more if you are going for dinner.

One of the best lunchtime experiences I have had in London. With the tagline no borders kitchen , Jikoni extends its Indian-Kenyan influence, taking inspirations from the Far East, the Malay kitchen, to craft food that is not only flavourful and delightful to eat, but also each of the plates is a work of art. Decoration is Earthy and quirky, which had a huge vibe of playfulness. The service is also really well done, the server saw just how much we were loving our meal that he added a free dessert. That was literally the icing on the cake. And the fascinating thing - their lunch menu is completely vegetarian. Here was what we had: Soy Keema Bun Lovely soft bun with a nice curried pea filling with pink pickled onions. Crisp Kale Chaat (MUST ORDER) Crispy savoury kale mellowed by the amalgamation of yoghurt, tangy date and tamarind chutney and crunchy freshness of pomegranate and onions Tomatoes and Burrata Lovely tomatoes that is drenched with spiced oil and creamy burrata. Simple but lovely. That spiced oil though, I think it s made of lime leaves and it takes you to Southeast Asia. Spiced Cauliflower Mac & Cheese (MUST ORDER) If you re a Mac n cheese fan, this takes it to the next level. The base of the béchamel is made with saffron, creating a voyage in a classic dish. The Mac and cheese itself is creamy and perfectly cooked without any heaviness that often is correlated with a good one. Crispy Aubergine (MUST ORDER) How can fried aubergine be this good? It s like an enhanced version of teriyaki chicken rice bowl. The fritters are coated with Sichuan pepper, which was an explosion of taste and texture. Served on a bed of fragrant garlic rice. Butternut Squash Pakoras Lovely turmeric rice to scoop up a hearty crispy pakoras and a silky curry that is seasoned with coconut chutney. Banana Cake with Miso Butterscotch (MUST ORDER) The server told us that people often come to the restaurant just for this. Yes yes, it is worth it. The moist, profound banana cake is coated in a bold miso butterscotch. On top of it, a crunchy, nutty brittle adds a wonderful texture. The Ovaltine kulfi is reminiscent of breakfasts in Southeast Asia. The result of all these individual aspects was pure joy. Vegan Pear & Saffron Cake A nice cake that has subtle sweetness from pear and the depth from saffron. It is drenched with a smooth oat cream. Nothing in the menu failed, really. Recommending this place for those occasions when you want a dining experience to be spiritual.

Normally I don t review - I prefer to express my opinion to staff in location. However this evening I did so without giving fair credit to the 2 waiters that looked after us. They were endlessly, energetically running up and down the stairs with plates of food- fresh and fast for the customers. To the two of you, thank you. I wish to recognise you for being the best thing about this restaurant this evening and I regret not giving you credit before leaving. Otherwise- small portions & miserly sized soft drinks. Very poor idea to have a table in the basement between kitchen and toilets.

Food is tasty, albeit a bit small for the price. The fish cakes with hollandaise eggs dish was particularly small, with only one egg and one fish cake - it ought to be double the size. But the real kick in the teeth is the 13.5% discretionary service charge. 12.5% across London seems excessive but the extra 1% just seems rude, like management is trying to profit by any means possible. Only wish I d asked why it needed to be 13.5% - at least 12.5% is a nice fraction (1/8) .

Nice venue, and very friendly staff. The food itself was nice enough, but nothing extraordinary to reflect its price (the saag is offensively overpriced at £24 for a shallow puddle of spinach puree and 4 thumbnail-sized pieces of potato). For purists, theres a lack of distinct flavours and elevation to the food to warrant the cost.

Very underwhelming, food was bland (especially the scrag end pie, which for £34 was tiny and could be compared to any pub pie), atmosphere is nice but definitely overpriced and very one dimensional in terms of the food. I have to say I was deeply disappointed in this restaurant, especially as I looked it up and recommended it myself as the menu seemed so interesting and reviews were stellar. What we found was, the most splendid thing was the decor, as the food and my honeydew melon cocktail did not get us going, at all. We ordered trout with sourdough and expected a slender full-ish-bodied fish with generous bread offering - instead we got raw fish (my dear friend is not a fan of that) and tiny bits of toasted sourdough. Not happy! As for the aubergine rice, it was perfectly fine but boring. I get a hundred times better at Chinatown for a fraction of the price. Because it was edible and I didnt have to pick up the tab, also the decor was indeed impressive and my friend and I were well served and comfortable, I have settled for 2* -although I considered giving 1* to offset the unwarranted hype.

My family had been here several times already, and we wanted to entertain a guest. The food was delicious, and the service very professional and pleasant. Feedback during the booking process, largely conducted by email was reassuringly precise. Its a bit difficult to define the cuisine; its vaguely eastern, hints of Thai, South Indian, Chinese, with comforting English puddings. Maybe Singapore! Vegetarian with some fish predominantly. Whatever, all very very tasty.

Ok atmosphere and attentive staff but food is a let down. The Asian fusion concept falls flat since they try to cover way to many cuisines and there is little coherence between dishes and they lack authenticity. Lastly, the general quality/value was just not there, cold untoasted bread and scallops that were cut in half and cooked until chewy are not things I ve ever seen before in a restaurant!

Made a reservation at the restaurant on Saturday night which was accepted. Didn t realise that the booking was for outside (via google). Reached the restaurant and I was told that your reservation is for outside and because it s freezing outside you might not want it. I asked if I could be adjusted inside but was told rudely that there is nothing that can be done. Either I sit outside in the freezing cold or at the bar. Extremely disappointed after reading the great reviews.

A let down. While the dal makhani croquettes were great, each other dish was lacking. The Okra fries were not crispy- rather they were tough and hard, the avocado chaat was too dry (not enough chutney/sauce), the kimchi fritters while delicious in flavour lacked the crispiness that a fritter should have. The mains were delicious, but the portion sizes were far too small for their price. The Banana cake in miso butterscotch was the only flawless dish out of our meal.

How this place has 4.5 I ll never know. The service was rubbish - plonked a bottle of warm sparkling water on the table and disappeared for 10 minutes. Food was bland for Asian fusion and some of it was pretty ghastly - pickled veg weren t pickled. Avocado toast was brown as no one had bothered to put lemon juice over the avocado - unappetising. All of the food was generally cold. The dishes that were edible were non-descript and unseasoned. Not sure if they were short staffed but the bar was a complete mess and one poor guy seemed to be running around while the others walked around looking dazed. When we d finished our drinks and the glass was sat on the table, it was lifted but no one offered us another drink. Needless to say I won t be returning. Not sure anyone else in the place this afternoon will be either as they seemed to have even worse service than us.

Great food, service and value for money at a very relaxed and unique high end restaurant! The dishes are very authentic and have their own twists that differentiates the cuisine from your typical indian. We had the Avocado Aloo, Saffron Mussels, Aubergine and Lamb, all very good quality, tasty, and well presented. We drank two cocktails, a margarita with dill and a sour, both excellent. We also had the organic cider made with grape rinds, maybe a bit overpriced. The service was outstanding, very kind and welcoming from all staff, including who I assume was a family member of the owners. Bill was £203 for two. Worth a try!

We absolutely loved the food, wine and atmosphere ( we were outside on a balmy London evening) .. - thank you to our waiter who we let choose our dishes and who did so brilliantly so that we had a wide variety of thé menu offerings. Thé innovative use/pairing of often unusual ingredients is really a knock-out when done like this. It has been our stand-out meal so far in the UK and we ve been eating out for 2.5 weeks! Don t change anything is our firm wish.

December 22, 2023

Great food does make up for poor ambiance and rudeness. We asked (nicely) to wait for another table instead of the one we were offered in a dark corner in the back, especially as a table was clearing and we were told no specific tables are assigned to reservations. We were told by the manager via a waiter you don t have to eat here and can leave. The message was not as disappointing as the rudeness with which it was delivered. Thankfully, there is so much good food and gracious hospitality in London we left with no regrets!

I recently dined at this restaurant and, unfortunately, I left quite disappointed with the overall experience. I was really excited for the visit, but unfortunately the service disappointed. I had made a reservation for an outdoor table due to the unavailability of indoor seating. This wouldn t be an issue even in late October(they have heaters), however, it was pouring down when I got to the restaurant. The restaurant was completely empty, so I politely asked if it was possible to move us inside, but I was told that this wasnt an option. Despite the restaurant being nearly empty throughout my one-hour stay, no effort was made to accommodate our request or provide a more comfortable dining experience. The lack of flexibility was disheartening. As for the food, it didnt quite live up to my expectations. Perhaps my experience would have been more enjoyable if I hadnt been sitting in the rain. Im baffled by the decision to seat a customer outside in the pouring rain when there are over 10 empty tables indoors. Not a service I expected at this price.

A wonderful experience for the taste buds and the staff is lovely! The eclectic decor is part of the charm, and is the reminder of the many influences of the cuisine: Middle east, African and British. We had mainly small plates and the grilled aubergine with rice (totally recommend!) as a big one + dessert. My favorite dish was the Burrata salad: fresh and delicious (burrata, endives, figs, walnuts, fresh cranberries and pomegranate) The trout was very good. The portion was really tiny on that one though... The chickpea chips were interesting and the portion was good, same with the crispy crushed potatoes. Im not a fan of Scotch eggs but we thought that, in such a place, it could only be good. And it was moist and flavorful. The Banaa cake was soooo good! But if I was to have it again it would be without the sea of salted caramel it was served in: way too sugary and almost overwhelming the taste of the cake. Which also had a scoop of salted caramel ice-cream. I think the cake with the topping is enough. Just remember its on the pricey side (given the location, I assume the walls arent cheap) and youll be fine. We interacted with different members of the staff and they were all super helpful and professional. We stayed until the last minute (hence the empty room shots haha) and no one made us feel like we were overstaying our welcome. Very gracious.
