UNDER THE DIRECTION OF CELEBRATED MICHELIN-STARRED CHEF JASON ATHERTON, BERNERS TAVERN IS A GASTRONOMIC GEM IN A TRULY BREATHTAKING SETTING. LOCATED WITHIN IN THE LONDON EDITION, FITZROVIA, WE OFFER A CONTEMPORARY BRITISH MENU USING THE VERY BEST SEASONAL PRODUCE.
We went to Berners Tavern for our 2024 Christmas Works party. 13 of us had lunch in the main dining room. The room itself is gorgeous, with a beautiful ceiling. We chose it over the private dining room for the atmosphere and settings. The decoration and settings are amazing. The staff are very attentive and helpful - we were well looked after and they were incredibly accommodating. We were slightly disappointed the christmas menu finished on the 15th of December (the day prior to our lunch booking), and ate three courses from the set menu. I had mushroom soup to start, this was very mushroom heavy, accompanied by a mini caramelised onion toasty. This was very pleasant and served beautifully. Other starters on the table included pate, prawn cocktail and salad - all of which were well reviewed. My steak was cooked as requested and a great steak. The peppercorn sauce was incredible. Having tried the mac and cheese others had with braised beef, this was lovely although incredibly heavily cheesy! I also had the pecan pie. All the food was lovely however I didn’t leave and want to rave about the food i’d had unfortunately. However, coupled with the settings and service this was an incredible lunch, with lovely drinks.
We recently went to Berners Tavern as a group of four on a weekday evening. The waitstaff were very attentive, taking our coats and offering us drinks right away. The service was prompt and polite—we really can’t fault it. The atmosphere was nice, too. The lighting created a pleasant ambiance, and it wasn’t too loud with music or anything, making it feel very family-friendly. The other diners were a mix of travellers staying at the hotel, couples on dates, business groups, and families. The food was a bit of a mixed bag. We really enjoyed the pork pie and the condiments that came with it, especially how it was served and presented. The risotto was good, but unfortunately, the macaroni cheese wasn’t great—it was far too rich and, to be honest, a bit sickly for our taste. The addition of beef was a nice touch, but the pasta wasn’t macaroni; it looked more like rigatoni. Dessert was good, although nothing particularly special, and the cocktails were very nice, though relatively standard. Overall, we felt the food was relatively average for the price point, especially considering the excellent options nearby. However, the ambiance and the waitstaff made the experience deserving of four stars. I’d recommend the restaurant to anyone looking for a hearty take on British classics with excellent service—just don’t expect it to become your new favourite spot in London.
Stunning interior with high ceilings and incredible hospitality. Tarzeem was the best server I’ve had in ages, what a delight. Next time, I want to sit at the 2 top in the mezzanine!
We were staying in the Edition and since we just flew in, decided to have dinner here to avoid the pouring rain outside. Stylistically, this spot is gorgeously decorated although it seems like the ambience cannot decide if it’s time for serious business conversation or posh clubbing. We were greeted by four different servers, the soon with the champagne cart, and the assistant somm. Great, lovely service! Once we ordered and it became clear that we were “only” ordering an app and a main, plus one glass of bubbles and one glass of wine each, we were completely ignored. We had to ask for our check 3 times, and it finally arrived 30 minutes after we first asked for it. Logically, it included a 13% service fee for the wonderful service we did not experience. How was the food? The octopus was great, although it was rather oily and a very small portion. The mushroom soup was not a soup, but some nicely cooked vegetables with way too much fresh tarragon. The pork pie was bland… our waiter said it really needed salt and he didn’t have any. Perfect. The lamb rump was well cooked but missing the eggplant and anchovy flavor promised by the menu. The steak and fries were completely “fine”. At these prices, the food should actually be better than forgettable fine. The wine and bubbles were similarly overpriced and forgettable. There’s so much good food and drink in London…. It’s just not at the Edition.
Thank you to every single member of staff that we interacted with last night. I’m so glad I chose to celebrate my birthday here. From the moment I arrived til the moment I left, I was met with happy, professional, attentive members of staff who all went above and beyond to make the night special. The food was delicious, the cocktails have been very thoughtfully created and made, and the ambience / atmosphere are just perfect for an evening of dining with friends. I will absolutely be coming back. Thank you!
This place is incredible, one of the most iconic spaces I’ve seen in london. The decor is just next level. Our meal was amazing, had the steak and salad. Cocktails were great as well, the service was next level!
Food was nice, but did expect something a bit more given it was a Jason Atherton restaurant. The setting was nice, classic decor but a lot of artworks which could be disturbing. Food on average would cost £80 per person for two courses but if you add alcohol be prepared to pay about £180 per person.
I stayed at The Edition and had breakfast and dinner there for 2 days. Really love the vibes and the design. Every time I sit there, I always feel fascinated on their decoration. Service are very lovely. The food is as perfect as their decorations.
Breakfast and lunch. Brilliant
All tapas we ve ordered were of quality at their price point - bank for the buck.
Amazing spot. Incredible wine list.
I m very disappointed with the lack of service provided during my recent visit. The experience was further worsened by the supervisor s unprofessional behavior. They displayed a very bad attitude and spoke rudely to their colleagues, which was both uncomfortable and unacceptable to witness. This kind of treatment creates a negative environment, not only for the employees but also for customers. I strongly urge management to address this issue and ensure proper training for supervisors on how to treat both employees and customers with respect. Such behavior reflects poorly on the organization and deters people from wanting to return.
One of my favourite bars in London! Nice menu, lovely staff. Clean bathrooms. Just generally a nice, chill vibe.
Delicious Sunday Roast, both the main and all of the trimmings (especially the roast potatoes and cauliflower cheese). The service was incredible and there is a good range to choose from on the menu. Shout out to our waitress, Arlene, who went above and beyond to make this experience the best it could possibly be.
wonderful environment, very attentive staff, present but not intrusive. they reported my gluten intolerance in the kitchen and sent me some excellent warm gluten-free bread accompanied with delicious butter! the waiters were very attentive in telling me which dishes were gluten free or in reporting any contamination. the meat tartare and truffle potatoes are highly recommended!
Really tasty, delicious food. Good service. Fantastic, impressive interior, however the room was only 1/4 full for Saturday lunch, and felt a bit sad compared to previous visits, when it was full and bustling.
Berners Tavern is a gem! The decor is stunning, blending traditional English charm with a modern touch. The food? Exceptional. We began with the Tuna Tartare and Shrimp Cocktail both were flawless and uniquely prepared. My main course, the Herdwick Lamb Rump, was cooked to perfection and easily the best I ve had. The service here is what sets it apart. Every staff member was attentive, but Giresse, our waiter, deserves a special shout-out for his impeccable, fun yet professional service. It s rare to find such a balance of sophistication and warmth. Berners Tavern is a must-visit in London. I ll be back for sure!
Beautiful place. Nice ambience, lovely service - a perfect balance of being attentive but not overbearing. Food excellent, it is pricey but you absolutely felt you were getting something extra special. The Mac N cheese and complimentary bread and butter was sensational. A wonderful venue for a special occasion. Vegetarian options: There was a vegetarian gnocchi dish(pictured) and also the Mac N cheese was vegetarian. Vegan cream was also supplied with dessert.
Perfect spot for lunch or dinner. Super service! I was very surprised how friendly and professional were people serving us Food
Excellent service and atmosphere. A place you can go to for guaranteed good food for a fair price. I love bringing my clients here
Great atmosphere for a table of 10 but frequently left waiting for wine to be delivered to the table. And the wine we had was slanted towards the over priced end of the menu and wasn t great. Met at The Lobby before for pre dinner drinks, which was fine. Very lobbyesque Overall disappointing venue experience.
Amazing place. Astounding food. The BBQ Pork Chop was sumptuous.
Very disappointed by the inconsistent food quality. We visited Berners Tavern first time in August - and we were super impressed - everything was how it should be, so we returned, bringing our neighbours. I ordered the exact the same dish 2nd time, yesterday for Sunday Roast (Chicken clear soup followed by beef roast). The Chicken soup - first time round it was a beautiful consommé, this time it was a salty broth that lacked the depth of flavour. I was utterly shocked. It must be a another chef or someone who does not check/taste his food. We do not like salty food in general but our neighbour also agreed. As for my beef sirloin - consisted of what resembled 2 pieces of bacon - very thin! It was shocking. It was as though they were taking the p*. I did not have time to raise this matter or be unpleasant given our neighbours presence, we just left. Our neighbours were a bit lucky that they ordered pork and the portions seem to be very generous and they could not even finish the food. OK perhaps I ordered badly - but this was their completely off day. Im so disappointed as its in our neighbourhood and we were so happy to discover this place in the first instance.
Coffee meeting. Greatly opulent room and quiet in the morning. Perfect for our needs
Amazing atmosphere. Small menue, but they serve anything you wish for! Food
Superb food, surroundings and service. Arlene was an amazing waitress - thank you.
Really fantastic atmosphere and very rich British food. Great experience! Would return.
Had a quick meeting with a coffee in the lobby, staff are super friendly and I enjoy popping in from time to time.
Tarseem has been a wonderful host to us. He has gone above and beyond to make our dinner and birthday celebration special. I really appreciate his hospitality and will definitely come here regularly
A memorable afternoon.
I went there for the first time today having previously been for drinks a few times. Bank Holliday Monday - place was pretty much empty and I understand why. Service was impeccable, the food was incredibly average and aulthough presented nicely was totally uninspired. The famous pie at £20 a cold slice is nothing in comparison what s offered by The Pie Room at the nearby Rosewood Hotel in Holborn for example. The prices were absolutely outrageous. The empty seats around us were a sign of what is to come. You simply can t charge those prices for food and drink and rely on the setting and service to fill in the gaps. I don t like writing bad reviews but this place needs to step up massively. It has lost the flame it once had.
A beautiful place with a really amazing food. Service was superb, wine collection as well. Enjoyment. Pricy. Food : 5/5 |
My absolute love for this place. I ll be back over and over again.
Wonderful ambience, very friendly and attentive service. The quality of the roast beef was very good, the side dishes were in the oven for a few minutes too long.
Hit or miss on service, one day its great, the next day you wait ages to even give your order then watch your hair turn grey as you wait for it to come...
Fantastic cocktails, attentive service, great atmosphere, and delicious complimentary olives and crackers.
Very nice location and restaurant
Incredible breakfast spot
Incredible!! Our favorite spot during our visit to London.
Little chill at the Bar, luxury vibe, good service and good foods
Its a beautiful restaurant. We got the 3 course dinner. Food was pretty good. The wine was not great and very expensive for the quality (tried 3 different ones ranging from 19-25 pounds). Service started off strong but as the restaurant got busier, the service went down very quickly. Had to ask for a cocktail menu multiple times, then had to flag someone to actually put in a drink order. We ordered tap water for the table. She misheard and brought still water. We had no idea until we saw the 12 pound charge on our bill.... she should have just taken that off but she didnt. Nice place but wouldnt return.
Memorable experience
I have been there and it was the best place to eat with good staff and atmosphere
Nice place with nice service. Freshly repaired. Food is delicious here.
Stunning restaurant and loved the Bar and cocktails too- Amazing experience one of the best looking restaurants and staff were great. Food delicious but dessert was the standout. Visiting from overseas and hope we can visit again
nice service. tasty food and time spent. if you dont feel like doing anything recommend something special. :) Dietary restrictions: I didnt know what to eat and they recommended a meat dish that I was delighted with
Amazing place. Definitely gonna come back +A
The best restaurant
Very nice place the people are very nice and lovely food
I had a good experience there
Absolute perfection from start to finish. The meal was divine and the service was impeccable
The best!
Dietary restrictions: Very knowledgeable about gluten and awareness of my allergy Food
So disappointed last night : restaurant not full, dinner at 7h30pm : no sole left from menu, no Whispering Angel left and were told after we d ordered our deserts that there were no Eton Mess left either ! They did offer the replacements deserts for free as a gesture but omg what happened with the kitchen ???
Popped in for a cocktail yesterday. Its a beautiful room, but thats it. Devoid of atmosphere, we decided to sit at the bar. One of the bartenders immediately told us this was his first day... It went downhill from there. Twenty minutes later and £50 out of pocket, we left, never to return. Avoid!
We sat at the bar for cocktails and were warmly welcomed by Mark, the nicest most friendliest bartender you will ever meet. What an awesome guy. He made us fantastic cocktails, some on the menu, some his own creations and some we requested. All absolutely superb. He can do it all! Not to mention being the best company while multitasking at impressive levels. Honestly cannot rate this place or bartender enough. And what a beautiful establishment. If you want to have a drink in one of the classiest locations in London then this is your place. When looking to give Mark a formal compliment to management, Pawel took the time to listen and we ended up having such a great conversation with him as well. Giving us a tour of the other delightful parts of the establishment. He shared praises of Mark, showing real appreciation for his top tier staff, which as a patron, is always nice to see. It is just such a great atmosphere with great staff. Get a cocktail here!!!
The beautiful environment, the music at the right volume. The food very good. Good service, waitresses understand requests and are quick.
Beautiful environment. Our food was ok, not great.
LOVED ATHIS RESTUARANT! so so beautiful and was really great as a date night with my boyfriend. They were super sweet and accommodated to my gluten-free needs and the food was absolutely amazing!
Good service, great menu, champagne trolley. We had the chateaubriand and it didn t disappoint. There was no availability online but we were able to get a table as a walk in.
I ve recently dined Michelin 3 stars, so that s my benchmark This was a small family dinner. It was excellent. The sommelier was expert and really helpful The waiter was extraordinary. It was perfect Highly recommended James Kid-friendliness: Our 2 children were 7&9 and were treated as people and so behaved appropriately
Excellent restaurant! A nice English atmosphere, good dishes and very good service!
This restaurant is so beautiful, I was in awe! On top of that, food was excellent and our server was fantastic. Loved our experience here!
This was an especially important occasion and my second visit to Berners in six months. I went with high expectations and came away beyond impressed but not for the obvious charms of the place which should not be doubted or under-emphasised, though; not least, the elaborate and stylish decor which is trendy without being overwhelming or overbearing. Wine is first class, even a Malbec by the glass, that thrills the palette and keeps you feeling enriched without breaking the bank. We ordered rib-eye steak (which I had enjoyed so much during a debut visit last December with a friend of mine who was equally ecstatic about her dinner). Whilst the fries that came with it were cooked to perfection, and the broccoli fresh and tasty, with only a touch too much salt in the seasoning, both steaks were, sadly, chewy and tough (though with delicious flavour) so, with the brilliantly professional assistance of our waiter, Nathan and, later, Fernandos help (manager or supervisor) we were offered a second serving of the steaks. At no time were we made to feel uncomfortable about registering our dissatisfaction. The second series of steaks were also too resistant to the knife and hard to chew so, with embarrassment on our part, and profuse apologies on Berners from Fernando, he explained the perfectly legitimate reasons why this can unfortunately happen (which is largely unforeseeable and mainly out of their control) and ran through alternative options. We plumped for a different cut (fillet) and were not displeased with the tenderness, taste and speed with which these arrived. I should add that on each occasion, fresh fries and truffle mash, respectively, were brought (without any fuss) and complimentary top-ups of wine and sparkling water were provided or offered. In all the years of dining in independent restaurants, or in hotels, around the world, I have never experienced such careful, considerate and expert levels of service and warmly courteous professionalism in remedying a sequence of problems as Berners demonstrated. To say that I/we were impressed is a massive understatement. To say that the manner in which they handled the events and related to us were disarming and singularly spectacular would also be under-representing the brilliance of this establishment. Errors can happen, problems can arise and food can vary from time to time and we should all make allowances for these fluctuations but the difference comes in how a restaurant handles these moments and thats where Berners really shined, as far as I am concerned, notwithstanding the wonderful flavours when the final dishes lived up to expectations from my first visit. What happened last night, underlined by the laudable efforts and attitude of Fernando and Nathan alike (but mirrored in the team as a whole, I would venture to state) far from deterring me has galvanised my decision to return to Berners.. Well done and well done (and I dont just mean how I like my meat to be cooked)!! Sterling stuff! Richard
Excellent ! Thé ambiance is amazing and the food/wine really good. The service was perfect, special regards to Ionut that took care of us tonight !
The restaurant is stunning. Amazing, amazing food! I really recommend the octopus starter as well (I didn t take a picture). Will definitely be going back at some point
We thoroughly enjoyed the Early Berners 2 course set menu here on a very wet Tuesday night in May. The venue is lovely, beautifully done with a great vibe and friendly, attentive staff. I could have easily settled in for the night but sadly had to be elsewhere. The £10 supplement charge for the sirloin was well worth it, we ll definitely be back.
The Berners Tavern is a wonderful restaurant with lots of history. The ambiance and decor is superb. We had a delicious lunch which was perfectly cooked. The staff were all friendly and welcoming. Thank you to Sadik, our waiter, who was very attentive and professional. The service was exceptional. Thank you Berners Tavern; we will visit again. Highly recommend.
Lovely!! Food, atmosphere, service, interior, everything was perfect.
Great food, really wholesome, was a bit intimidating with the level of service, not as inclusive but overall fab fab,
Lovely for the dinner with the family. The food and the drinks are good - not a gastronomic masterpiece but all blends in well with the atmosphere. Would recommend both for groups and for dates (latter is better at the bar imho).
Lovely food, a very attentive waiter and altogether a lovely evening
Beautiful place and good food, especially the Mac & Cheese
Thank you Sadik for your wonderful service. You have been perfect with us. Very good expérience ! C est Dietary restrictions: Sadik ask us if we have any allergies So kind !
Service was great food was terrible
Been here for just a drink but boy the service was outstanding. Didnt even have a sip of water as the waitress came back to refill it. Had also some nibbles on the house. This is what you expect at a 5 star hotel and it delivered. Highly recommend
Ate here a few times while staying the hotel. Breakfast was amazing and not a buffet! Mac and cheese was a bit wet, I felt. Sunday roast was excellent and surprisingly good value.
Beautiful tavern average overpriced food
Delightful experience! Popped in before the theatre. Had a salad and Mac and cheese, very tasty. Table sommelier, how nice! Staff could not do anymore for you, exceptional! Thank you for a brief but lovely experience! Vegetarian options: Mac and cheese, so tasty!
Food was incredible and we had lovely service from Sadik in particular.
Very chic decor! A great place for a special occasion, tasty food and great ambiance. The champagne cart is additional plus, we will be back
Excellent breakfast; coffee was average
Attentive service and lovely environment
Food was very disappointing, and it became very clear that the set menu was a Trojan horse to upsell you at every opportunity. Service was over attentive to the point it ruined the meal - every opportunity was taken to try and sell us something, and we couldn t get any flow to our conversation as a result. It also created a sense of constant defensiveness on our part that put a damper on the meal, as we would have easily tripled the size of the bill if we d followed the staff s constant recommendations. They were also very boisterous around the room, laughing and chatting so loudly that it had the entire room turned around to see what was going on. They were constantly distracted and hard to get a hold of, and no service charge was removed after we found the hair. Overall the service elements of the restaurant seemed very poorly managed and inappropriate for the price and supposed prestige of the restaurant. More akin to Nando s than fine dining. I found a hair in my meal, including a visible root, and even though it was fixed quickly they only refunded the difference between the set menu prices, so £5 total. Chicken broth was super average, the schnitzel was unenjoyable, and the creme caramel was the highlight. Someone else at my table spoke highly about the sirloin, but otherwise all 4 of us were disappointed. The room is phenomenal, but overall it was a very disappointing experience and not somewhere I would go again. We picked the restaurant because we wanted fine dining, but it ended up feeling like a Groupon.
Was there with my partner. Excited about the idea of a really trendy fine dinning experience. Unfortunately the atmosphere was more of a train station than a fine dinning restaurant (very loud music, had to shout to communicate, glare lightning), extremely expensive over priced basic food (mac & cheese with beef=£31) + my partner had food poisoning and spent the whole night sick. Was expecting much more quality for that price.
I dont understand these high reviews. Very nice and beautiful environment but it ends there. Food absolutely not good and tasty and absolutely expensive considering the quality. Unprofessional service; the waiter comes to disturb you every 2 minutes with something and gets too familiar. Last point, from a hotel like THE EDITION you dont expect a service aimed at making you spend money at any cost.
Absolutely shocking service, we had our reservation for 8pm and the table wasnt ready. We decided to get a few drinks at the bad. No seating at the bar. We stood while we had drinks until our table was ready. We got seated and placed our orders, two of our mains were out of stock so we picked alternatives. An hour passed and we werent even served our starter so we decided to leave.
Dont be taken in by the modest sounding name of the establishment, as this is unlike any tavern you are likely to have frequented previously (unless your local tavern also has a £3500 wine option) - having said that, if your wallet/ purse allows, the food, wine and service are very very good so it is well worth a visit
Wow! What a beautiful place to have breakfast in. I was truly impressed by the interior and ambiance. Had an amazing breakfast with surprisingly great coffee! Will be returning!
Great service but overall not quite satisfying considering the high price and rather loud ambiente: (+) Excellent beef tartare, ribeye and fries. (-) Wine price strategy out of this world even for London standards: 25 GBP for a standard champagne with hardly any bubbles, 20-25 GBP for 2020/21 vintage vines. It s not surprising hardly any guests order wine. At this price point higher quality offerings can be expected. Seats are rather uncomfortable and the noise level and music make conversation nearly impossible. Nevertheless the dishes were rather enjoyable albeit pricey.
After reading other people s reviews, I thought the dishes would be good for such a price, but now I m dumbfounded when I look at the wine list. The selection of the wine list is very limited and the prices are terrible... I don t recommend it to wine lovers at all. Babies, I wanted to say okay and order a glass of champagne (I already knew it would cost 25 pounds a glass), but I still wanted to drink it, but the one I was given was Veuve Clicquot, but it didn t have any bubbles at all. I was really fainting. I wanted to say it s okay, I came here for it. Fillet (45 pounds), I asked for 5-rare but it was given 3 points. Although the outer layer of the filet has a coke smell, it should be 3 points for good cutting and juice. What s funny is that I can t cook it very well with the knife provided by the restaurant. Easily cut into the size I want to eat . The bernaise sauce I ordered was also very disappointing. The sauce couldnt taste the taste of egg yolk and butter, but the Mayonnaise was thick and greasy. I dont know what was added. Smell, the chairs in the restaurant are very uncomfortable, my butt sags as soon as I sit down, my thighs are uncomfortable being pressed by the wood of the chair, and the music is played too loud, so I can t have a good chat with my husband who is sitting across from me... Such a standard meal Click and add another 12.5% service fee...well...not recommended, not recommended...
Great waiters, excellent food and beautiful interior. Competent and classy. Worth recommending :) Dietary restrictions: Dishes made from good quality ingredients.
I ve been wanting to try Berner s Tavern for a while after enjoying Jason Atherton s other restaurants - but the food really let the experience down. The venue is gorgeous and worth visiting for a drink to see inside. The staff were also excellent and really lovely throughout our booking. We went for the Sunday roast. We hadn t realised we couldn t order from the a la carte menu as well but that was fine. The starters were ok - nothing exceptional to note. Half our party ordered the monkfish for the main but were told they didn t have any due to delivery issues and instead had a very different type of fish course which was slightly battered and very boney. The roast potatoes were terrible and tasted like they d been sitting sweating for ages - even though we were one of the first tables to be seated for lunch. For the price point this roast doesn t contend with ours such as Tom Kerridge s. Our experience might have been different if we had ordered from the a la carte menu - but given we had to have the roast and then 1 of the 5 main options wasn t even available, and what was available was quite bland. We chose not to stay for pudding given the food we had tasted so far so can t comment on the puddings. The venue is gorgeous - but the food let the whole experience down, and is at the end of the day why we visited and what we paid for.
Always great
One of my top locations to dine in London. Ideal for special occasions.
After making a booking and requesting to understand further information about another table for my team, Michelle hung up on me. She did so based on the fact I was inquiring about how to book another table later on that evening for my colleague. I found her to be extremely unhelpful and rude, all I was trying to work out was the best possible options to host my leadership team in full. I came to your restaurant at Christmas and loved it. I am shocked that such a high end quality restaurant has such incredibly poor customer service. Youve lost a customer in the short term, however the long term damage to your brand having your staff hang up on customers will be significantly more than that. Really disappointing. Alistair Dietary restrictions: Good options
Service was impeccable - including knowledge of the wine and witty conversations. Great! Was a date and would use venue again
Nice service. Cocktails great! Food is decent and meets hotel standard!
Fabulous
The overall ambiance is lovely but for the price, and being within a 5 star hotel, a few essentials were a miss: - Should you order wine by the glass, you will not be shown the bottle, or offered to taste. For all you know you could be drinking anything but what you ordered. - The water will be overly poured into your glasses in order to subtly add more bottles to your bill without even checking in on whether you still want more or maybe a change. - Do not order the fish unless you are on a strict diet. The portion is tiny and the parsnip purée, although on the menu, is no more than a decorative drop about the size of a teaspoon. - Despite a generous service charge you will not have the pleasure of a table cloth or complimentary bread. On a more positive note, the staff was very pleasant and competent. The British meat for two was a generous portion, the quality was average. Overall, the place has good potential but doesn t deliver on its high class pretences.
Still a good place after so many years. Lovely service and great selections on the menu.
Fabulous food , great atmosphere in lovely surroundings and nothing too much trouble for the servers
Uncooked salmon dish which we were still charged for. Mistakes on our bill and a waiter trying to take the bill twice. Slow service as well. Wouldn t recommend!
Almost fine dining in very fine surroundings! All the food is very nice and there is an ample drinks and wine selection. The duck in particular was a highlight. However, I think it slightly misses the high bar you would expect for the prices you pay (e.g £6 for a bottle of still water). The service on every course was a bit slow to the point you begin to wonder if youve been forgotten about, and it always felt like we were competing with other tables to get the waiters attention for drinks or paying the bill. The side dishes were also a serious let down - the chips portion was very small and a third of them were small burnt ends, and the broccoli was just a dish of completely plain broccoli. Not great for costing £7 each plus service charge! Youll undoubtedly have a very nice meal here and be fascinated by floor to ceiling paintings and pictures, but youll probably also leave with the niggling feeling you paid a little bit more than you had to, and the same expense elsewhere wouldve bought you a slightly more refined dining experience.
Stunning food with the best service ever!
Delicious steaks, room with a grandeur feeling, good wines, approachable staff, etc. Bit loud but
Great atmosphere, food is good, definitely worth it
Beautiful interior, excellent service and very friendly staff. I spent a lovely evening here. The Berners Tavern house salad was good. We had the Cote de Boeuf to share which was also yummy. Then the chocolate and raspberry slice was very nice. I would recommend this place and I would love to try their breakfast and Sunday lunch in the future. Check out my insta for more inspiration @gingerthattravels :)
Went there last night as a group of 4- neither of us enjoyed the food, SUPER SALTY!!! Whoever was the chief needs to stop the hand with the salt! Not worth a penny!
Summary: Food - nowhere near as good as I expected. Service - exemplary. Atmosphere and decor- its a spectacular location but the sheer vastness of the restaurant means it definitely doesnt feel cosy or have any warmth. Lets start with food: I had prawn cocktail followed by pig cheeks from the lunch menu. The prawn cocktail was frankly a bit flavourless. There must have been maximum two prawns, cut up into tiny pieces so I never got that big sweet salty hit which is what prawns are all about. The dressing was classic and theyd squeezed a bit of citrus through it but nothing to rave about. The whole thing was on top of half an avocado which was under-ripe and had bit of the skin left on. So the starter wasnt up to much. For mains I had pig cheeks. They were well cooked and seasoned but not as fall-apart tender as in other places Ive eaten. There was a pour over sauce of red wine reduction and puy lentils which was the star of the dish. Rich, savoury and great consistency. It was served on an enormous bed of mashed potato. It was OK, smooth, buttery and well seasoned but there was so much of it that the texture of the dish, with the soft pig cheeks was just a bit gloopy. There was a macadamia nut, pig skin and breadcrumb sprinkle over the top to give a bit of crunch. On first bite this was excellent but it quickly turned chewy like toffee in the mouth. The dish needed a vegetable or other accompaniment to freshen it up and cut through the rich gloop. So overall the food wasnt great, wasnt bad. The service however was fantastic. Attentive, friendly and the head waiter took the time to explain the history of the building and the restaurant. Some of the other junior waiting staff did look a bit lost and seemed not to know which dish went with each dinner on other tables, but I wasnt served by them so cant really comment. The restaurant itself is beautiful. The vast room, cavernous ceilings, incredible artwork and attention to detail in the decor is worth a visit in itself. There were a couple of faces I vaguely recalled as celebrities and the clientele are clearly well off and pampered to within an inch of their lives. But really Berners Tavern should be known for its food and sadly, this wasnt up to scratch. Ill pop back on an evening to try the dinner menu and hopefully change my review.
Everything is amazing but food is disgusting it s too salty to taste anything . This is based of 5 dishes we order and every single one is too salty. All I enjoyed was bread and butter on the side . Parking: N/A
Overrated and overpriced.
I m not sure if what I ordered was a miss? Or if the food in general is lacking. I was completely underwhelmed. The croque monsieur was soggy. The salad wasn t dressed properly. The macaroni and cheese was more like a rigatoni and blue cheese. Perhaps the food wasn t for my palette, but the rest of our group seemed to be unimpressed with their food also. As for the service, it was okay. The restaurant wasn t overly accommodating for a gluten allergy within our group. My friend kind of had to fashion her own burger bun with the complimentary gluten free bread she was given as a substitute to the table bread. It s always nice when a server problem solves and offers alternatives. This did not happen. The good news is, the restaurant is absolutely beautiful. It s a shame we didn t enjoy the food - I really wanted to.
Fantastic
Weird vibe - upscale but clubby?
Love this bar - calm in the middle of hustle n bustle of Oxford street! Great place to recharge with coffee and excellent cake or a fine cocktail or two... May not be the cheapest place to stop but well worth it for the decor, comfy chairs, log fire... The list goes on - cheers & merry Christmas
Beautiful ambiance. Mouth watering food (best eggs royale I tasted ever)! Also generous - with plain croissant you get three jams & butter. Lovely, attentive, staff - shout out to Hristomir! 10/10
We had dinner here. The place is very nice and well-decorated. The food, too, was delicious. The service, though, was not up to the looks and vibes of the place. There was no smile from the employees whatsoever; for example, we had to order the check three times to receive it. One of the employees was quite rude. Only the young man who waited for us was the good person to have received service from.
Glorious setting, excellent food
One of the best restaurants in London! You should visit this place!
Alway good food and service
Excellent service from the waiter Thomas. Without a doubt I would return to this place
My Waldorf salad was excellent, the steak was very good, and the eclair was alright. The house beer was so and so.
This is an absolutely fantastic place! From the architecture to the atmosphere and of course the food. We had the fillet steak and risotto with a perfectly paired bottle of pinot Noir from Oregon - a great recommendation from the sommelier Ricardo This will be one of our go to places the next time we are in the area. Highly recommended.
We were staying at the London Edition. Breakfast was included, so we had our morning coffee and food there three days in a row. The staff was nice and greeted us before seated. The breakfast options were many and easy to choose from. The interior was stunning and inspiring, especially we were designers. The best after dessert is the chefs special crepe!!!
Amazing menu, great service and lively atmosphere. We all enjoyed our respective meals and the attentive service.
British food, fabulous atmosphere and Scottish meat to die for, very good!
Good breakfast
Food
4/5 stars The atmosphere here is wonderful, creating a really enjoyable dining experience. The service was a mixed bag some staff were incredibly friendly, while others seemed stressed and gave off the impression they wanted us to hurry up. The food was generally good, with the mac & cheese being the standout dish. Definitely worth a visit.
Really rude and patronizing service for no apparent reason.
Sunday roast is generous, place was a little quiet but great service. Bloody Mary was pretty good but expensive.
the service was very rude and disrespectful. She made me uncomfortable after I requested for a glass of ice and she responded well of course we aren t savages . She was giggling and side eyeing us the rest of the time. For a restaurant of this magnitude I expected at least the slightest bit of respect.
Me and my friend enjoyed the place and everything very much. It was a treat from him for my big Birthday back in August , I wasn t in UK. Amazing atmosphere , food and service.Only for special occasions as is not cheap. What is cheap anymore in London ? Noting!
Ordered the chicken main and it was half burnt. The service and interior is amazing however
Beautiful place. We had 2 courses lunch. Starting with beef tartare and prawn cocktail, and both were delicious. Main dishes were also good, but I really loved the starters. BTW, floor manager Fabio was fabulous Date of visit : 8 Oct, 2023
Fabulous, great food great staff!
Classy and impressive establishment just off Oxford street. Deco and pictures amazing but place is very noisy, catering more for business people than casual diners
No longer tablecloth service, now cheap plastic tables. Totally lost all elegance and standards
Best steakhouse in London!
I had an exceptional experience at Berners Tavern! The service was outstanding, with an attentive and thoughtful staff that made the evening truly memorable. The food was delicious, especially the tartare and Sunday roast they were cooked to perfection. The gluten and dairy-free options were a pleasant surprise, catering to a variety of dietary preferences. And lets not forget the wonderful location, which added to the overall charm of the place. I highly recommend Berners Tavern for an unforgettable dining experience!
Great place, great food
Exceptional. Service and food. Everything. Highly recommended.
Amazing food, amazing service, amazing venue. The steak was perfectly cooked, the tartar seasoned deliciously and the wait staff so so attentive. 5 stars for a 5 star restaurant.
Very high class bar restaurant. The service, food, and atmosphere were in very high level....
Excellent place, food, drink and service. Top world class.
Many thanks to Shakira for her professionalism in making our birthday night an unforgettable experience. Her dedication and recommendations were beyond our expectations.
Wonderful luncheon. Epic fish & chips. Great desert. Worth many more visits.
Amazing place
Best restaurant in London!
Nice ambience, but if Im paying £37 for Lobster Mac and Cheese I expect more than 5 tiny cubes of lobster!
Beautiful place. Worth a try!
Absolutely stunning interior, and the food was excellent. However, the service needed a lot of improvement! As the waitress would top up our drinks she would constantly bump into you or lean over you and your dinner whilst eating. On multiple occasions, she spilt the water over the table and left it wet the entire evening! If they improved their service I would give the establishment 5 stars.
Wonderful place to dine.
What a wonderful experience. Food was excellent you pay for what you get and this was well worth it for the experience. Staff friendly and attentive cant fault them. Will be back again.
My first time there, and what a find! A new favourite!!!
Beautiful.
Great vibes. Food was really good, just a touch pricey for what you get. Overall thoroughly enjoyed. Do recommend. Would rate 4.5/5 but not an option.
Lovely setting and the food was very nice however, for the price paid, our party thought the portion sizes should be a lot larger. Lunch for 5 came to £800 and we all left with the same thought. The prawn cocktail is tint, as is was the apple tart. Two of our party had the £110 chateaubriand and could have been eaten by one
Great breakfast with exemplary service
I was really looking forward to Berners Tavern after reading the reviews online. We arrived at the bar in the main lobby and were delayed for 30 minutes before going into the restaurant, which we were ok with as the main entrance lobby had a festive feel about the place which will all admired, but we didnt get any updates and had to ask. When we sat at the table, we were just handed our menus, without the waiter saying a single word. Then the sommelier approached, he was very warm and friendly. Unfortunately, the waiter just took our orders without asking the usual questions youd expect. There wasnt any questions about our meal, and at the very end the waiter was a little humorous, but his overall demeanour didnt make it a great experience, especially over the festive period. Dining at Berners Tavern hasnt come close to any of the other fine dining restaurants Ive been too. Unfortunately, not all items on the menu were available too. Also, while observing when we were eating our food, their were three hosts at the restaurant entrance that seemed to be chatting throughout our time, it wasnt easy to get the attention of staff as they seemed to be all talking towards the bar area too. The only attentive person seemed to be the sommelier. Overall, lovely food, and wine, but the experience wasnt great and regrettably we asked for some of the service charge to be removed from the bill. Berners Tavern have a long way to go to be considered a great restaurant and have a further way to go on customer service. Ill come back to the bar area in the main lobby but probably not to the restaurant until things improve. I wont be recommending business lunches their either.
