Shoreditch Town Hall, 380 Old St, London EC1V 9LT, United Kingdom
Cutting-edge restaurant and bar for innovative British menu using often-overlooked ingredients.
What am amazing way to enjoy a lunch full of such fantastic flavours beautifully presented by a delightful staff team. We are vegetarian and the taster menu is so interesting and inventive. A slow lunchtime to remember. Do go
Went for our wedding anniversary. We had tasting menu with wine flight. Staff were very professional and attentive. Food was good. I thought the wine could have been more equal, as there were differences between my husband's and mine, with me always getting a shorter measure. Despite paying the same price for each of us. When we mentioned it to the sommelier she didn't seem to be interested. Higher end in terms of cost so you want it to meet your expectations.
We went for a birthday dinner, and we couldn't have been happier. From the moment we walked into the dining room, the staff were warm and welcoming. The menu flowed at a great pace, and the dishes were executed perfectly, flavours were outstanding of every dish along with their descriptions. We must thank Em our Sommelier on the night and Paolo for their amazing hospitality throughout the night. We were super happy with the wine choice! It was truly memorable.
2 stars Michelin restaurant in Shoreditch. It’s used to be number 32 but fell to 80th place in the world’s best restaurant (as of June 2024). Dropped out of top 50 unfortunately. Came here for lunch on Saturday. We chose the short tasting menu. I had to say all were excellent. I usually judge the restaurant by the bread and butter. I found bread was slightly tough. The butter was good but not outstanding. I also feel they should improve “the attention to detail of the whole dining experience”. Felt more like Michelin restaurant rather than world’s top 100. If you happen to experience in Tokyo or in Asia or Paris etc, you would understand. IFKYK
Intimate dining experience with front row seats looking into the kitchen. Service was impeccable with great attention to detail. I was touched by the handwritten card and personalised menu that was provided as a keepsake. We opted for the vegetarian tasting menu which consisted of 7 courses including a number of additional dishes to start. The food ate well with the crispy Shiso leaf being the highlight. I found many of the dishes contained similar ingredients like cheese, mushrooms or asparagus and some of the courses were also prepared in a similar fashion leading to us having a number of granitas and sorbets throughout the meal. We also found the Beremeal pancakes a challenge to eat without the aid of cutlery, leaving our hands sticky. Whilst my Loquat sorbet was perfectly centred on the plate I noticed it was very much off centre on my partner’s dish. Overall a pleasant experience elevated by the service.
Had an enjoyable evening at the bar counter for single diner. It's great that the bartender is quite engaging; and I do appreciate that the servers spend a bit of time to slowly explain the dishes. The 2 wines recommended by the sommelier were wonderful; and the food portion is just right. Overall feeling of the place is positive.
We went to the Clove Club to celebrate our wedding anniversary. From beginning to when you leave the staff is great. From the dining room you have front row seats to the open kitchen that works like clockwork. All dishes were nicely balanced and taste is impeccable. There were some unexpected combinations which all worked great together. Some reviews mention price, but it’s in line with other 2 michelin star restaurants we’ve been to. Maybe not fir people who love classic solid food, but if you like pure ingredients and unexpected combos this restaurant should be on you your list.
Background I first tried it when it opened in 2013. This is my second time around after a decade. It is a restaurant with Michelin-star status Ambience: The restaurant is elegant and sophisticated, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The stylish decor, coupled with dim lighting, sets the stage for an intimate dining experience. I was told that the recently refurbished. Service: The service was nothing short of impeccable. The staff is attentive, knowledgeable, and professional, ensuring that every guest feels well taken care of. From the moment you step in, you are greeted with a warm welcome, and throughout the meal, the staff is prompt in their service, ensuring that your needs are met. Food: I feel that the non-vegetarian options are exceptional cos my dinner companion was pretty satisfied with the food, but the vegetarian degustation menu had its hits and misses. Some dishes stood out with their unique flavours and presentation, while others fell short of expectations. The vegetarian options could benefit from more consistency and refinement. Overall: It was a memorable dining experience with its elegant ambience, impeccable service, and innovative cuisine.
Indulgent birthday lunch. Perfect service. Creative and reliable dishes
Very good, all over, sublime, service, and creative disches, from starters till the Coffee and brandy while ending your dinner. Worth to revisit when in London.
Terrible Customer service. I called to change and potentially cancel my reservation at this restaurant within the cancellation period. I adjusted the time in case I could make it (it needed to be earlier due to my clients schedule). The reservation assistant said that wasnt a problem and that I could call back to cancel it. Therefore giving my notice of potentially needing to cancel the reservation. I called back the next day and the reservation line was closed. Then I called back the following day and was told I would be charged almost 600 dollars for the cancelled reservation. They said there was nothing they could do - even though I alerted them to this potential cancellation days ago - and the reservation assistant did not alert me I needed to cancel that day or I would be charged. Today they were the most unhelpful, unsympathetic people saying there is nothing they could do and I would be charged almost a thousand dollars to not make this reservation. Insane.
Lovely meals Great atmosphere Food
Visiting The Clove Club was an unforgettable experience! The atmosphere was warm and inviting, with a perfect balance of elegance and comfort. The highlight of the evening was trying foie gras for the very first time. Its rich, buttery texture and deep flavor were unlike anything I d ever tasted decadent yet perfectly balanced with the accompanying elements on the plate. Each dish was a work of art, showcasing meticulous attention to detail and an inspired approach to flavors. The staff were incredibly knowledgeable and made the entire evening feel personal and special. If you re looking for a dining experience that s truly extraordinary, The Clove Club is a must-visit
Lovely venue, lovely menu, get onto it
Very bad restaurant
Treat yourself, treat your partner, treat someone elses partner....The Clove Club with ensure everyone is blown away. The style of the decor, relaxed chatty staff and a tasting menu that is amongst the best Ive ever had or could possibly imagine. Dress to impress and dare to dream of the stars dancing on your taste buds for days to come. The Swan Lake amongst fine dinning.
Two Michelin stars THE CLOVE CLUB Modern British cuisine The first course has a bit of Japanese flavor The main course turned out to be roast suckling pig! The food is not salty overall I like this British and Western food very much! Finally, the ice cream is sweet and sour I really like this kind of dessert that relieves tiredness and appetizes, rather than the pile of sweetness just for the sake of dessert.
Great Food BUT overshadowed by the constant upsell, add-ons, and extras, with absolutely no mention of price (maybe intentional as they can easily double/triple the overall cost of the meal). This soured the evening, leaving us feeling exploited, in what was otherwise a decent meal!: 1) Not allowed to book for 5 people, but OK for 6! (didnt want to waste a fee earning seat!) - and thats after six calls to book in the first place, and even then we werent seated in the main restaurant but outside in the lobby / bar. 2) Had to eat at 6.15pm, to make way for second sitting at 9pm. 3) Charged for tap water!! 4) Almost no wine under £50 a bottle 5) Waiter tries to Upsell all the time, with no mention of prices of all the extras, some of which arent even made clear they are extras! 6) 12% tip automatically added to the bill I appreciate excellent food at appropriate prices, and have eaten in most of the best & Michelin star restaurants in town (we are not cheapskate hicks from out of town). I also realise this is one of the hottest places in London at the moment - and Im sure you aspire to have customers for whom price is irrelevant, but you still have a core client base who want to make informed choices, so please have the courtesy to mention prices alongside all your upgrades and extras!
Fantastic!
PLEASE DONT EAT AT CLOVE CLUB. Both my adult kids got food poisoning after eating at this restaurant. We were visiting London and wanted to try a Michelin star restaurant and what a disappointment. Instead, we got throwing up, all night long and the rest of our trip was ruined.
Went in 2016 and is still top of the list for my wife and I. Just getting around to leaving a Google review. Could have changed completely since then but remains to this day one of our favourite experiences. Got the Tasting Menu with Wine Pairing.
Genuinely the best restaurant I have eaten in. Its Michelin so you know the standard of food and service youre going to get. But beyond that, its personal and genuine.
The best High end food Ive tasted. Approx £800 including entrees, 7 course tasting menu, cocktails, wine, coffee. Mixed wine flight was genius. Service as good as anywhere in the world.
The food does not meet my high expectations, but it was good. The chef had no hat and gloves while tasting customer food. Food to mouth and then food without washing hands.
I had lunch with a friend on Saturday the 2nd August 2024 - I cant recommend enough. The service was excellent from everybody we met, the wine recommendations were superb. The food is the star of the show, well executed and balanced, with some very clever dishes. I highly recommend and a big thank you to everyone for such an enjoyable experience.
Later, I returned to London several times, but I was never able to rekindle the old relationship. On the one hand, my journey to stardom was smooth, and it became extremely difficult to book a reservation. On the other hand, I had such a good impression when I first met that I was worried that I would just repeat the same old skills when I became a superstar, which would ruin the future. Endless good feelings in the memory.
Excellent food and cocktails. Super imaginative.
Nice service and nice food
Incredible. Decadent. Worth every penny.
Yum yum yum nothing more to say!
Celebrated here for my birthday and everyone made sure I had a lovely night!!! The Tasting Menu was just delicious and amazingly put together - for another special occasion I will definitely come back! Thank you Clove Club for a beautiful evening :D
Im still reeling from the poor or indifferent reviews for the Clove Club. Every single aspect from the initial greeting to the final goodbye was truly exceptional. We had the vegetarian tasting menu which provided course after course of beautifully presented, exquisite, sophisticated flavour layering, delights. The wine pairing was highly skilled in picking out certain flavour notes to perfection. The team worked as a team and helped make a memorable evening. The setting is somewhat austere but does manage a club atmosphere. There were two minor bits of criticism but they were based on personal preference rather than actual mistakes. Ive rarely paid so much for a meal and called it value for money. This place is very special.
Very good place, highly recommended!
perfectly cooked. dessert could be more elegant.
A rare feat the food is the focus and they taste good. This 1-star restaurant beats many 2 or 3-starred.
One of my favorite restaurants in London. I revisited it after many years and was still surprised at every turn. The Clove Club is a two-Michelin-starred restaurant. It had not yet received a star, so I accidentally ordered lunch and went there. From the service to the food, I was eye-opening. After surviving the epidemic, the restaurant has been greatly renovated. This time I arrived in London and had the idea of visiting again. There is still room at noon on Saturday, so I will give it a try to see if everything is as good as before. Not only is it the same as before, its even better. The space is wider, and diners and the open kitchen are in the same room. The service staff perform their duties but occasionally come in to introduce the food on the table; the female sommelier does not quote classics but brings relevant tastes brought by the specific geographical background, and the whole restaurant has a strong flow. Energy makes people indulge in the temptation of delicious food. Food, really good. Don t stick to the traditional methods of ingredients, but also bring out the original intention of the food; don t rely too much on sauces, but use juices from time to time to bring out the hidden essence. On the tip of your tongue, you can experience the chefs playing the world, with elites from Italy, Spain, England, France, South Africa, and the United States, traveling to various countries, and experiencing countless things. When I passed the kitchen after finishing my meal, the service staff who greeted me today all smiled and nodded, and I returned the greetings one by one. I was wondering, how did I become the Dolly of Hello Dolly , and should I also sing a Promise youll never go away, Dollyll never go away again?
Delicious, innovative dishes. Every bite is better than the last.
Very nice
Got in my last day in London and loved the spot. Food, service, vibes all were top notch. Did the short tasting menu for lunch.
A bit of a dive, needs a clean up
An amazing dining experience. They take food and service to a whole another level.
Great atmosphere and wines. Food was not bad given the standard, but fell short of our expectations. There was nothing exceptional that makes us want to go back or to recommend to others.
I had a pretty pour experience at the restaurant. Flavours where really bland to the point that we asked for some tabasco (in high end restaurant, seems crazy i know). We also make few other requests that were completely ignored. I also send an email asking for explanation and a refund and it was completely ignored for over 2 weeks (see screenshot). Extremely poor to completely ignore customer complaints for such an high end restaurant.
Brilliant evening - and superb substitutions to accommodate my wife s allergies despite very little notice. The second and not the last time to visit and gets better each time
One of the best food experiences I ve ever had. Amazing!!!
Great food and service
Refined dining in an unpretentious setting. Incredibly inventive seasonal fare beautifully presented. Friendly and knowledgeable staff - well worth it!
The food was amazing. Some of the most interesting dishes we ve eaten. At least 5 courses were off menu and in addition to the listed tasting menu. We had more than enough food. Also one of the most expensive meals we ve ever had but we knew that going into it. Would recommend the langoustine upgrade but we didn t find the caviar addition did much to the soup it was added to. The fruit sorbet and habanero shaved ice was a bizarre and delicious second to last course. It was a 3.5 hour ordeal which is aggressive for my wife and I but we enjoyed it and are glad we did it.
I had the most amazing vegan tasting menu at The Clove Club. Wonderfully inventive use of spectacular ingredients, flavours and textures. There atmosphere was warm and welcoming, with friendly and knowledgeable staff. Superb! Vegetarian options: Full vegan and vegetarian tasting menus are available.
Lucky enough to be invited to join a couple of friends at this fabulous restaurant. Im pescatarian; one friend was vegan and the other a omnivore. We each had individual menus of so many courses, I lost count. Plus appetizers to start and petit fours after two dessert courses. Oh my gosh, what an amazing tongue-tingling range of fresh tastes and textures. Each course was sublime. I think probably the langoustine was my favourite but its hard to choose. But I dont think Ive ever been so aware of so many individual flavours - who knew Cardoons would make a wonderful soup? I cant stop going on about it. The staff were lovely and both friends enjoyed theirs but I dont think the Vegan had ever been offered such incredible choice.
Food was good, but atmosphere was uncomfortable and pretentious. Servers fake , not genuine. Didn t even ask why we had not even touched one of our dishes. And given it s £195 per person for the tasking menu, seemed a little rude not to ask at least.
Nice vibe, excellent service and incredible food. Pretty much all meals were a hit.
I was not sure if to write this review as I don t like putting places down unless they are really disappointing, and it is somewhat late, however having compared this to many other Michelin star restaurants/ those of a similar level, I did want to write the review as I was just so disappointed, both at the time and in hindsight. Overall I was hugely disappointed with this restaurant. The food was good, but nowhere near 2* level, not a patch on starred restaurants like Story, Frog, Sabor, A Wong or Evelyn s Table or even those that are just below that level such as Angelina, Ikoyi (at the time I went) or Perilla. I think back to all these restaurants and can remember something memorable that ll stick with me for years, yet at Clove it s nothing, just average upon average. I also think the service was very strange. Yes they folded your napkin when you went to the bathroom, and topped up your water, but it was totally lacklustre - no energy, little excitement - and the guy serving us (think it was a bald middle-aged guy) had a strange demeanour - friendly but distant. The space was also unwelcoming. We went into the bar and loved it, but then we were seated on a strangely bare table in an enclave in the corner. It was cold and unwelcoming. I think the biggest kicker was the price. All the restaurants mentioned above were cheaper than this, yet this was the worse quality. I was really so disappointed as the bill was over £600. In conclusion, I was so excited to come here and I really wanted to love it - it had been on my list for years. I kept telling my partner it would get better, but it never did. I just cannot recommend Clove Club and cannot fathom how it is in all of these top restaurant lists. Please save your money and go to one of the places I have mentioned above.
An amazing experience! The food was incredible and the staff were so attentive and knowledgeable. They made us feel very special. Dietary restrictions: My husband is a pescatarian and they adapted his menu with some delicious alternatives
I was quite disappointed with the meal we had. As vegetarians, I thought they could have tried to incorporate other items into the menu. For a 6 course meal to primarily have just potato and truffle was highly disappointing. We ve been to many restaurants like this and usually the food covers a wide range of items which I felt did not happen on this occasion.
What an experience. My husband surprised me for my milestone birthday. The food was incredible. We had the mixed wine and tea pairing which was a new and interesting experience. The staff were so helpful and friendly and the atmosphere was perfect. I had a really enjoyable evening and I would definitely recommend the Clove Club.
Parking: cool Food
I cant remember a place Ive liked better than The Clove Club so lets say theyre tied for first. Their menu always has a few creative dishes that will be unlike anything else, while also tasting better than anything else.
Fantastic lunch, recommended
The food is okay, main dishes are nice, one of the dessert is good. Others are around the average.
Fantastic tasting menu! Well balanced flavors and interesting combo of ingredients..
Best meal I ve ever had. I had been before but only had the meal not the wine pairing, this time we had both and it was spectacular! Can t recommend enough. It was however phenomenally expensive.
Absolutely incredible meal. Almost completely flawless. Service is also brilliant. Highly recommend
Delicious food and lovely staff but the Clove Club is only for the rich. We went for my husband s 40th and had £300 gifted towards the night - our bill was double this at £600!!! We had 1 cocktail before dinner, the tasting menu, a bottle of white wine and one glass of red each. We have been to a few Michelin star restaurants and the experience was not worth £600.
Amazing lunch at Clove Club and delicious food. Exquisite dishes. I love here and will come back again.
Not the best of meals, service a little slow, and many dishes did not match up, undercooked or overcooked dishes. Little consistency, all felt very dated.
Lovely experience, highlighted by a creative and delicious menu, impeccable service (thank you, Bryan), and an outstanding wine list. Not enough superlatives to give Clove Club its due. Perfectly authentic without trying too hard to be anything else.
Extremely disappointing. Over rated and over priced. 1. Food - we did the tasting dinner menu and everything savory was VERY salty (almost as though to disguise that cheapish ingredients were chosen as the main event like monkfish, sweet bread and pork chops). There was not a single dish that was impressive, memorable, or tasty (aside from the granita). The presentation was nice but that did not make up for taste. I was particularly disappointed with the signature scallop dish. 2. Service - many of the servers had thick international accents (which is fine as long as people can be understood ) but often when explaining each dish they spoke quickly and i was unable to understand all the components they were listing. In addition no one ever came over to ask how our meal was going and we had ask for our water to be refilled several times. As we walked out the hostess finally asked how everything was and ran away when we said we were disappointed. Also, as a side note, the wine was not that good and the sommelier is only 20 years old. 3. Ambiance - there is zero decor/ambiance. Scandinavian minimalist take on things leaves the restaurant plain and unmemorable. For the price of such a meal I would like to be in a fancy place, not a grandmas dining room with yellowing walls and lighting. Also the bathrooms downstairs are the oldest and ugliest yellow bathrooms i have ever seen in any kind of restaurant. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere, literally anywhere elsewhere to enjoy dinner and spend 1/3rd of the amount.
The food was quite disappointing and not worth the high prices. A lot of foam and not much excitement. The kitchen opens into the restaurant so you get to see all the action which was cool for a short period, but we actually found this created a very stressful and unpleasant atmosphere to be in after being there for a few hours.
Great experience, hugely recommended!!!
Menu was well crafted, flavours worked well but not much that really excites the palate like some of its other 2 Michelin starred peers. Their signature scallop dish was very cohesive but underwhelming for a signature dish in both presentation and complexity of flavour. Ambiance was great, but a server spilled sauce on our table which seemed rather amateurish for a 2 star. Overall, good food and wine list but there are better options out there.
What sets apart restaurants like The Clove Club isnt the food, although that is sumptuous., but the service and the ambience. And honestly, frankly, the Clubs is second to none. The personal nature of their greeting, the way they left a card for my wife (it was her birthday), the cocktail recommendations, the chat with the sommelier, all of it was perfect. No matter the Michelin Star, of which the club has plenty, this was an experience without compare. Brilliant.
Top shelf. Exceptional
This is a stylish British restaurant with a blue theme. Recommended for a date. The color of some of the dishes may differ from the actual color due to the lighting, but all of them were beautifully presented and impressive. All of the white wines that came out for pairing were smoky or had a distinct taste, so if you like simple white wines, you may want to order your own bottle. Also, the service is very polite, and even those of us who do not speak English speak English easily, so I think you will be satisfied with the high level of customer service. In any case, we had a very special time. Thank you very much!
Oh boy, where do I even begin? Im not exactly what youd call a food connoisseur, but let me tell you, this restaurant was an out-of-this-world experience! I swear, my taste buds are still dancing a jig. Lets start with the tea pairing. I mean, who would have thought that tea could be paired so perfectly with food? It was like a symphony in my mouth, every bite and sip complementing each other like they were long-lost soulmates. Now lets get to the food itself. Im telling you, those scallops were as soft as a cloud. I was half-convinced that they were made out of angel feathers or something. And the trout? Mind. Blown. But the veal...oh, the veal. This is the first time Ive experienced quality like that. It was like the cows were being massaged and serenaded with Mozart all their lives before being turned into delicious, succulent meat. Hats off to the chef for making me feel guilty for ever eating any other kind of meat. And lets not forget about dessert! The plum cake was like a party in my mouth. I dont even have words for how amazing it was. It was like the chef had captured the essence of a perfect autumn day and put it into a cake. All in all, this restaurant is an absolute must-visit for anyone who wants to have their taste buds blown away. If youre not a foodie, this place will make you one. And if you are a foodie, youll feel like youve died and gone to food heaven. Trust me, you wont regret it.
I love star restaurants and this was my biggest culinary disappointment. 500 for a dinner without alcohol and no dishes that would thrill. We find ourselves at a good brasserie level. The manager of the room was really unpleasant, she pulled her head in front of the customers. I strongly advise against this restaurant
Good food but the service was a bit slow
Great atmosphere.. 10 put 10 for the food
It may seem slow, but it is a space that continues to develop. It is a space that makes you feel good with a subtle, long-lasting energy rather than a stimulating one.
Almlst 4.5 for me. Almost everything tastes good, but I had higher expectations because of all the ratings and recommendations. And the greasy smell toward the middle of the experience is really distracting.. Sicilian Blood Orange & Fennel Soda is citrusy and subtly sweet. It tastes better when the gas is still there. The green chicken soup that looks like matcha is a light and appetizing start. The cold sourdough, however, is a let down. Snacks: The smoked ricotta bite tastes really good, crispy, melting, gooey, and warm. The classic buttermilk fried chicken is fantastic. Covered in crunchy batter and dill salt, the chicken is very juicy. Beetroot apple gazpacho is less memorable. Smoked trout with almond brown butter, buttermilk. Love the brown butter and toasted almond. The trout doesn t taste smoked but is tender and juicy. The caviar from Paris is mellow and melts in mouth. + Sparrow s tongue (smells sweet and aromatic taste refreshing). The monkfish is perfectly cooked, plump and slightly springy, not dried out at all. The texture resembles seared scallop. The crispy fish skin and whelp add layers to the texture. + Yame Genmai (toasted rice). The slow roast lamb is probably the rawest lamb cutlet I ve head. It is easy to cut and eat nonetheless. The skin is crispy. The warm Italian sauce of anchovy and garlic tastes very nice.+ oolong pipacha (beautiful floral notes). Grilled HABANERO Granita is quite a nice surprise. The chili-flavored ice is really interesting. The plum sorbet is tastes more like Chinese dark plum than the regular plum fruit here and is very refreshing. The sheep s milk yoghurt is creamy. Its unique flavor helps to bring the spiciness and fruitiness together. Regular cow milk yoghurt won t be able to do this. ( _ ) Apple tarte tartin has a just right amount of sweetness, though I d prefer the crust to be less soggy and more crunchy. Enjoyed watching it being cut with a scissor. It was a little difficult to eat only with a spoon and a folk though. A knife would be really helpful. The solid dollop of crème m is too heavy for me. An ice cream or gelato or something even lighter would be more fitting. + white poeny tea The finishing small bites are alright. Not too sweet or heavy, but not quite special either. One citrusy, one with chili, one with some alcohol taste. We all liked the macaron-sized mini celebration chocolate mousse cake. (P.s. would appreciate some more vegetables in the menu for a balanced diet :) Tea pairing is an interesting idea. The value is debatable. The service is considerate, friendly and attentive, offering many surprises for my friends special occasion. The environment is a bit noisy so some part of the food intro is missed. From around 8:30 pm, a strong smell of oil cooked in high temperature comes out from the open kitchen from time to time. As some reviews noted, the ventilation should be improved. I am also worried about the staff s health.
The service is very warm and the environment is a bit stuffy. They have the best sturgeon and apple tarts I have ever eaten.
The Clove Club is a Michelin-starred restaurant located in Shoreditch that offers a modern and creative take on British cuisine. The menu changes frequently to reflect whats in season, but you can always expect to find inventive and delicious dishes like cod with asparagus and beurre blanc, or lamb with black garlic and grilled lettuce. The atmosphere is elegant but relaxed, making it a great spot for a special occasion or a romantic dinner.
A must visit when in London, every course a banger! Sharp service and great wine/tea pairings - innovative and delicious cuisine - Clove club is the best!
What an amazing place!! The food is innovative, tasty and so well balanced. The service team is very professional and friendly, very impressive. Thank you Nick and team for looking after us. Highly Recommended!!
We found the tasting menu to be rather dull and at times tasteless. The deserts were the restaurants saving grace, the butter and wine were quite good too. We did note a little spat between two of the chefs, so what lacked in taste was made up for in entertainment. A note to the management though, if you re going to have an open kitchen make sure your staff put their hands over their mouths when they cough. We felt quite sorry for the couple who received a plate full of the chefs homemade seasoning!
The sommelier was very knowledgeable. The tea pairing was a bit of a let down given that we opted for the half and half and the wine selection was exceptional. We tried the vegetarian menu (which I believe was being tested). The food was presented very well but the flavours were not up to the mark for a 2 michelin star on a few courses in comparison to other restaurants of a similar caliber. Vegetarian options: The options exist but are probably not what they are famous for.
The menu offered a wide variety of options, catering to different dietary preferences. Loved every bite!
Didn t find it tasty for any of the dishes. Don t get the reason for it to be 2 stars Michelin..
Great tasting menu, it was a lovely experience. My only remark is the wine tasting wasn t amazing - the sommelier wasn t really giving much useful information on the wine profiles and seemed a bit haughty.
A memorable dinner! Definitely a must for a visit! Tried the Tea Pairing and it s definitely the best one I ve ever had
I am still flabbergasted at how poor the food and service at this place was this evening. There were three (of eight)dishes which were so poorly executed poorly we couldnt even finish them. We let the service personnel know but there was neither one word from the head of service (if there was one) nor a message from a kitchen if we would like another dish to compensate. It wasnt mentioned when the bill was delivered either. Shocking at this level. It undermined any confidence that was left innthe young inexperienced staff they seem to employ. Cooking is just at the competent level but you would expect a lot more from an establishment with these accolades. Nothing that made you sit up and go wow. Nothing memorable and this is the main reason that you try these places. How those 2 Michelin stars were earned I will never know. There is nothing serene about the set-up and the facilities are a shambles. I eat out a lot and I am willing to spend a fair bit on good food but we left this place feeling fleeced. A fantastic food+drink experience!
This was a present from our daughter. What a wonderful experience it was! Everything was a delight. The staff members are all lovely and full of information. I can t recommend the Clove Club more highly. Food : 5/5
Wow what can i say the food is michelin star the service is 5 star the rooms furnishing and facilities put exceed expectation and rival some of the top chain hotels the staff extremely helpful and friendly out of
Along with Extebarri in San Sebastián this is my most memorable dining experience (and I m barely halfway through the meal!). The meticulous detail of both presentation and flavours with the courses is immaculate, the wine pairings perfect and it s fantastic meeting Australian Head Chef compatriot Reece (apologies if incorrect spelling). Staff and service world class. Can t wait to return for round two!
Always a pleasure to be back and be taken great care by the team! The space is cosy, the service is excellent, and the food is hands down one of the most unique yet familiar I ve experienced. It may be a little off the beaten path to head over the Shoreditch, but it is well worth the effort. A big shoutout to chef Rhys and his team for executing a smashing degustation menu, Keith for the wine pairing and extensive knowledge, and Paolo and his colleagues for a seamless and joyful service!
Just a wonderful experience from start to finish. Each course was so well executed and thought out. The details were perfect. The service was above and beyond and the cocktails were fabulous. Really, really great time here! This was great for a vegetarian as the vegetarian tasting menu was perfect. Vegetarian options: Full vegetarian menu was offered. Some were even very close to the regular menu with small modifications, which I appreciated!
Fantastic experience !
Superlative in every way and deserving of its praise. Rare to experience such a brilliant degustation in a down-to-earth and relaxed setting. The staff are as good as the food - world class.
Wow, wow, wow simply spoiled from start to finish! Interesting tea and wine pairing, give it a try if it s still on the menu. Pro-tip: the restaurant isn t within the town hall building itself but next door in a building of its own. Expect to spend at least £300+ on the tasting menu with the welcome champagne, beverage pairing, coffee/tea.
Amazing experience
Super as usual. Second time to this amazing restaurant and I will definitely make the 3rd!
The best restaurant experience I have ever had. I have been here for a 7 course (or more?) menu over one Friday afternoon. I will never forget the food choreography, the taste, the quality, the surprises, the sommelier and the warm hospitality the staff created. Always on my mind, Nils
Amazing restaurant. Delicious food, great wine selection. Impeccable service. The attention to allergies and diet restrictions
Absolutely insane tasting menu
Took a mate here for his 40th bday. Was one of the best meals Ive ever had in my life. He got the wine pairing and I got the tea pairing (not something I have ever heard of before!). All really enjoyable and delicious. All the staff were excellent and the young sommelier was pretty hilarious. I gotta be honest tho this is the most I have ever spent on a meal in my life. It is deffo not cheap. The bill came to ~850 for 2. I really enjoyed it tho which is saying something. I plan to take my wife on a special occasion as well. Keep up the great work across the whole restaurant.
Worth all of the hype (and money)
Great place to enjoy. It met all my expectations. Especially the attention of the staff where I must highlight the attention of Daniel, who was able to explain several of the dishes to us in Spanish and brought pencils and sheets so that our daughter would stay entertained and we could continue enjoying. They certainly deserve to be among the top 50 unlike other restaurants in London where we couldnt book because we were with our one-year-old daughter. Congratulations to the entire team. Greetings from Chile. Kid-friendliness: They dont have a menu for children, but they are allowed and they have a chair for them. We brought a bowl that could be heated without problems.
Brilliant menu. Stunning service. Will savor that experience for a lifetime. Dietary restrictions: The chef and staff are extremely attentive and accommodating towards dietary restrictions. Food : 5/5 |
Super restaurant
Earned its stars
While The Clove Club presented an enchanting culinary journey, our experience was overshadowed by a noticeable lack of transparency in billing. Our final bill far exceeded the expected amount based on the provided menu pricing, with no clear communication or justification for additional costs encountered during our meal. An amicable resolution post-dining was unfortunately not achieved, dampening our overall impression of this Michelin-starred establishment.
My second time here ! Lovely place . Service is good . Wine list is comprehensive . Food are great as usual !!!
Yeh absolutely different can t recommend the cider though, it s low key mid - food hit though
Dropped by for a long anticipated dinner - left full, impressed and very much anticipating a return trip!
Well deserved Michelin stars especially with a great venue, attentive service, superb food and an overall memorable experience. I enjoyed a lot of the seafood dishes, and appreciate the balance between exquisite ingredients and classics.
Amazing experience! Such a great team at The Clove Club. The food was delicious, the wine pairings were really fun and on point, and the service was super friendly and hospitable. Well be back for sure.
One of the best food + dining experiences I ve ever had We did the tasting menu and wine pairing and I don t think it s a surprise for you to know if was unreal. The meal flowed seamlessly and the wine pairing was on point to compliment each meal Obviously a 2 Michelin star restaurant so you expect a high standard across the board. However, it s the personal touches and general personality of the place/staff that took me by surprise anyway. We went there for our anniversary dinner and the Clove Club team really went the extra mile to make it a great occasion hand written letters, special deserts etc. Would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a special occasion or just a generally amazing food and drink experience!
A 2 michelin star dining experience well worth its position at the top of the worlds 50 best list in the UK. 5 stars. We arrived and were seated to a central table in front of a window in the main dining room, with a handwritten card from the staff congratulating us on a special milestone. Staff were friendly and attentive, but relaxed throughout and made us feel at home. No dish from the fresh seafood leaning menu disappointed but the hot smoked Wiltshire trout with Oscietra caviar and Cornish sardine sashimi were my personal favourites. A lovely bottle of white burgundy (very reasonably priced for a 1er cru) recommended by the sommelier paired well with the course of the meal with champagne by the glass to start with the pre-menu snacks. I couldnt recommend The Clove Club more highly to anyone looking for a British fine dining experience second to none.
Delicious, beautifully arranged and served food, and not least super sweet, pleasant and professional waiters
Everything brilliant!! The only thing was that the menu, wine and ect. was without tax... that is the only bad thing because it wasnt written Food : 5/5
Jheeeze. Ring the alarm. This is a seriously decadent day out. Went for the lunch menu - genuinely the best food I ve had the pleasure of eating. Thoughtful, vibrant, and continually impressive, dish after dish. A proper treat, this. If you love your food, your wine, and your mates, get yourself down here for a bit of scran. Bring your nearest and dearest. Not cheap, but worth every penny!
Comfortable and attentive service without being cloying or overweening. Food that absolutely astonishes. Terrific atmosphere to share a several-hours food experience with someone you love or people you want to bond with. Food : 5/5
Quite frankly, I walked out of the Clove Club feeling extremely queasy, with an unsettling suspicion that I had been scammed. I was extremely disappointed with this experience, despite having looked forward to it for many weeks. As a frequent traveler and food enthusiast, I am well accustomed to the standards and expectations of fine dining restaurants across the spectrum, and am flabbergasted that this establishment bamboozled reviewers into granting it two Michelin stars. Upon arrival, I was greeted extremely coldly by all staff. The building was bare bones and rustic an aesthetic that works well in some no-frills restaurants, but in this case, fell flat. A sad dying green plant sat in the corner near my table, which seemed to set the tone for the next excruciating three hours. There was much confusion as to whether or not the restaurant carried bottled water, and the communication between servers was poor. I waited over 20 minutes to speak to a sommelier. Of note, after leaving my table, she fielded complaints from the adjacent table regarding the poor pacing and selection of the wine pairing. Once the service began, with a lackluster amuse bouche and extremely slowly arriving flavorless and uninspired dishes I was itching to leave this culinary purgatory. The most horrifying moment of the meal was when a staff member placed a truffle on the table described it and allowed me to smell it, before informing me that if I agreed to pay an additional 40 pounds I would be granted the privilege of tasting it. I found this extraordinarily tacky. A sales pitch during a nearly $1,000 meal was previously unthinkable. The staff became increasingly cold after this failed attempted sale. Many times, fine dining restaurants live up to the hype generated within the circle of prestigious restaurant reviewers. This did NOT. I implore you to avoid this establishment and spend your dollars at the other magnificent restaurants in London.
Fantastic meal with excellent, highly attentive service.
What an amazing experience! Food is absolutely out of this world and the tea and wine pairing is an absolute must to complete the meal. Service is impeccable, attentive and very knowledgeable of the food and drink provided whilst holding great conversation and humour making them amazing hosts. This place doesnt come cheap however it is worth every last penny you spend. An absolute must for a once in a lifetime meal. Cannot thank the staff enough for such a fantastic evening, thank you.
Truly specular meal. Went for lunch and had the short tasting menu bc I was pressed for time. Wonderful flavors and beautiful presentation. Didnt think Id enjoy the habenero granita or warm potato mousse as much as I did. Really wish I was able to experience the full tasting menu. I guess that means I need to come back! The best meal of week-long trip in London.
Fabulous food and service, a wonderful experience, the sommelier was knowledgeable and lovely, the atmosphere was great and service wonderful and not at all stuffy
Awesome
Excellent experience! The dishes were all great and the service outstanding (warm, personal and not too formal). Good atmosphere (a bit too cold though). Will be back!
5 out of 5 stars. 100%. A+. I will forever sing praises of my experience here. The restaurant is not pretentious at all. It s so minimalistic and is the epitome of quiet luxury. You might actually walk right past it because it s so understated. As soon as you walk through the door, however, you are treated like a celebrity. You are ushered into a small room with a direct view of the open kitchen. You see the chef, the sous chef and the staff hustling quietly and in an organized fashion. We were seated at the front table and were maybe 3 meters away from the prep station. It was such an intimate dining experience. The staff were extremely professional. There were more staff than clients to make sure the diners had the best experience. The food was stellar, both in taste and presentation. The lobster and the pork were my standout favorites of the tasting menu, but to be honest, everything was delicious. It s also not just what s on the tasting menu because the kitchen staff add a few extra little bites in between the courses. Truly, it was such a special, unique experience and definitely worth it for a special occasion.
Faultless. A seam of exquisite flavour, texture, and seasoning through the entire tasting menu. Crispy pork jowl good, smoked trout with flaked almonds better, potato mousse with truffle best. Great service and wine options
**-Michelin restaurant that is well-deserved
Just wow! What an amazing dinner experience we had, truly loved it:) The food was just delicious and the service was very nice and kind of on your level compared to other Michelins star restaurants. It s not a snobbish environment that you re used to see in these types of restaurants. We went for the big tasting menu and took a bottle of Chablis. *The only note I would like to point out and a small detail I didn t really like was the upselling. So you get a menu and then few dishes have additional charge to add truffles or caviar. Honestly when you get a tasting menu this isn t something that should be there. And plus it s awkward when you re on a date to say okay I want this and that but not the latter. This is the only thing I m pointing out because other than that it s flawless. Dietary restrictions: They ask in advance if you have any and align the dinner for you
This is an excellent restaurant, but two of the dishes were less inspiring than they sounded. The service was flawless. I m surprised they have 2 Michelin stars, given that stars are awarded for many factors in addition to quality of cuisine. One thing that I found terrible was the odd bathroom, with its miserable sink.
Decent service, below average food and real lack of effort.
Memorable, creative, truly stunning. Confident and welcoming team, young and attentive, superb cuisine, beautiful dishes, flavourful. Scallops with truffle, chicken on pine, tartare of aged beef, more chicken perfectly prepared honestly, it was a delight. Bravo.
This is one of my fav restaurant in London and it was my third time visit to the place. Food was as creative and tasty as always and service was also top notch. I would say it was a bit too creative on this time around but I think it s good to be experimental. This is one of the fine dining restaurant you ca. go back multiple times and can enjoy each time perfectly. I like the woody cozy ambience and personally perfect for a date.
Terrible work environment in the kitchens, so much abuse. Doesn t make up for nice food
Fine dining and supreme service in one of the best restaurants of London - even Great Britain.
One of the best places in UK
Great food
Its an old saying that its cost-effective. The price went up a lot. Even after uploading, there was no e-mail or phone call to the customer who made the reservation. Although it is said to be a casual concept, the service quality of the employees was very poor to receive Michelin two-star. There smile on their face, but there are pretentious. The food was also not good for the price.
Fantastic food menu with great amount of tasty dessert, the dinning hall was really amazing!
A great gastronomic experience overall. Everything is worth tasting. I highly recommend paying extra for the optional menu items as they were definitely worth it. The drinks were fantastic. The service is on point, and it seems the entire team serves every table together, so you have different people bringing different things. My only criticism is the fact that its 10 courses over 3.5 hours. It felt a bit long, especially given the wait time between some courses. I think a 5 course menu (and combining the initial 3 finger foods into 1 course) would make more sense.
We visited on 6 August for my brothers birthday. I wanted to like it. For £400 per head, I really wanted to like it. And I tried to like it. But it was too hectic, too cramped, and the food was just a bit hit and miss. My wifes vegetarian main looked like one of those cheap bags of frozen mixed veg you get (sweetcorn, peas, carrots) with a fried egg and (of course!) grated truffle on top (almost a parody). Another course (served in August) featured Jerusalem artichoke, which Ive always understood to be a winter veg, and more truffle... The apricot dessert was a bowl of sweet, textureless gloop with crunchy bits on top. The upselling annoyed me too - two courses attracted a £25 supplement each (paid one and regretted it - potato dessert, with yet more truffle). The mixed wine and tea pairing was good in concept, but the teas werent flavoursome enough for the food and the portions were very small. To be fair, the sardine, bass, lobster and lamb were all very nice, but I was glad I didnt have the vegetarian menu. The whole thing exceeded four hours, whereas the booking specified 3 hours. Would have been fine, except wed driven down and Tower Hamlets have a max parking stay of 4 hours. So I missed the petits fours (not on the menu) and my brothers birthday cake. Explained the parking situation to the host in the bar area, but she essentially shrugged - not her problem, I guess. All in all, very underwhelming and unsatisfactory, and enough to put me off trying more Michelin star restaurants, given the poor value-for-money at Clove Club.
An incredible experience, surprising meals, and delicous vine
A very unique experience...food was delicious, but my husband was still hungry after, but perfect for me. Room lovely, service was top notch. 2 caveats: the price was eye watering, and if you want to catch up over dinner this is NOT the place as staff are constantly bringing you dishes (not a complaint but true observation), Not good value for money but the experience made it worth doing. With the wine pairing and full tasting menu I think it was approximately £500 pp.
it was good. not the best, but good. we went here because the ratings seem to be very promising. the staff was friendly though. the ingredients are indeed fresh maybe thats why the pricing is a bit high than expected.
Every dish presented was a work of art - both in flavour and presentation. Highly recommended for a special occasion.
A more than perfect lunch that increases in taste with each dish. The service is impeccable and discreet. The must is matching tea/dish which was a real discovery because it amplified the flavor of the dishes. The Clove Club deserves its two Michelin stars and its 35th place worldwide.
I would say excellent service & place but not something I feel amazed.
Top notch and well deserved its status on world s best.
Deserves the rave! Lovely ambience, great hospitality and delicious food! Loved every moment of our experience here
Beautiful place. Polite and attentive staff. The whole family came for dinner. We chose the test menu, a bottle of French red. And off we go. The dishes changed one after another. Look and taste competed with each other. Thanks for a wonderful evening!
Many dishes have a soup element that makes them special. Very well executed.
Amazing food very interesting. The cocktail was also nice and the staff was friendly, especially the feseptionist.
Three people for lunch mid September we enjoyed the short tasting menu. Have no doubt that we did enjoy the short tasting menu. This was my fifth visit to Clove Club, and the first for three years because of the impediments to travel. I had always loved the food and had always thought that its short lunch menu was incredibly good value. I still love the food but, sadly, the value proposition I think is less good value. I thought I had booked for a four course GBP65 lunch. Im not sure where I got that idea, although I can find solid evidence on the internet that it is not a fabricated memory. That seems to have now changed. The lowest price offering is a five course GBP155 lunch. The dishes were all great. The service was delightful. The room and open kitchen, calm, warm, friendly and precisely as I recall. Things change. Time for me to move on. The next time I am fortunate enough to be visiting London I shall experiment. No hard feelings.
it has nothing to do with two stars! the high price we paid hurts because the use of goods was manageable and not worth 50!! we are very disappointed!!
Yes, some dishes are outstanding and the FOH staff are knowledgeable. Also, can see small details during the service, but not sure if it is worth for money you are spending for one meal
Super nice, super tasty, 2 stars level. The best place to sit is in the room with the open kitchen!
First time here. We had a full-tasting menu. The service and staff were attentive, but the food was mediocre and dull. The room is outdated and a bit run down. The restrooms were yucky as well. I would not recommend this place to anyone. There are so many creative dining establishments in London, especially tasting menus. I feel like this place got left behind years ago.
If you want an incredibly special meal, go to Clove Club. The scallops was one of my favorite bites of food ever. My husband loved the sardine. Every dish was tasty and inventive. The service was fantastic as well. Truly a two Michelin star experience in the best way possible. Make sure you budget plenty of time for this meal though, it s lengthy.
Food was good but had nothing exceptional as you would expect from a 2 Michelin Star restaurant. Service was done by amateurs and toilets (upstairs) were not clean. Was on my list for a while but will not recommend. You can easily spend that money on better experiences.
Tasting menu for the birthday dinner. Slightly overpriced - the food is good as expected.
As you can see I don t review much, but a recent experience has reminded me to of course review here. We had a nice dinner for our last anniversary, it was a fish menu. Of course pricy but you expect that from a Michelin restaurant. We came home And myself and my partner had a 2 days of bad food poisoning!!! Myself especially. A few days later once we recovered we called to complain, and to warn them to check the fish as we didn t want anyone else to get what we had. We were greeted on the phone by a very rude man (I think the one of the managers) who said he would look into It and get back to us? Days later Nothing. We called once more which we shouldn t have had to do and had someone else speak with us and say the same thing. By this point we were exhausted chasing!! We never heard anything back. Still to this day I am so disappointed with the service we received for such a well established restaurant.
The flavour is top notch, but the portions seriously? My pork and venison main is half portion size comparing to other tables.. (photo3) The pork has the same size of a stamp I have sent email to contact the restaurant, but haven t get any replies yet
Second visit but somehow better than the first. They keep raising the bar. The staff is amazing every plate is spot on. Can t wait to visit them again!
Memorable food.
Service was outstanding and did not disappoint for a 2 Michelin star restaurant. Tasting menu was more than enough portion-wise. Some dishes better than others. The duck broth as an extra dish was a bit disappointing for the price. Overall the venue was cozy and the ambience was calm and nice.
Inspiring tastes, wine pairing was well thought out but the cocktails stood out! The flavour profile of each dish in the menu was unique - no repetition whatsoever. Not giving it a perfect score because it lacks in the value for money department - I find that there are similar quality restaurants in London priced slightly lower. Overall the experience was great - good pace, excellent service - definitely one to try!
