Set in the historic Grade II listed former St. Olave’s Grammar School’s Assembly Hall; Baluchi strives to serve a contemporary take on impeccably executed Indian dishes. Our vibrant menu takes inspiration from the major food regions of India to carefully craft an elegant cuisine, which is made from the finest organic ingredients.
Had some great drinks chatting to the very warm and welcoming Jerin the bar tender here at Baluchi. He recommended eating at the restaurant which was excellent. Highly recommend the Lamb shank curry!
Visiting Baluchi is akin to embarking on a culinary journey across the diverse landscapes of India, where each dish tells a story of its region. The ambiance at Baluchi sets a welcoming tone, reminiscent of an opulent yet cozy Indian haveli, which immediately transports one into the heart of India's rich tapestry of culture. **Food:** The menu at Baluchi is an ode to the vastness of Indian cuisine, offering a spectrum from the fiery curries of the South to the delicate, aromatic dishes of the North. Our experience began with the Kebab Platter, which was a delightful introduction - each kebab, be it the succulent Galouti or the spicy Hariyali, was crafted with precision, showcasing the chef's understanding of flavors. The Bhindi (Okra) was a crowd-pleaser, with its rich, creamy sauce that balanced sweetness with the right amount of spice, though one might wish for a bit more depth in the tomato base for that authentic Indian touch. The bread basket offered was a mini-festival of tastes, with each offering revealing a new aspect of Indian culinary art. It was that melt-in-your-mouth texture that this bread basket is famous for. **Service:** The service at Baluchi deserves applause for its warmth and efficiency. The staff's knowledge about the dishes, especially the regional specialties, added an educational layer to the dining experience, making it not just a meal but a cultural exchange. Their attentiveness ensured that the dining pace was comfortable, allowing time to savor each course without feeling rushed. **Ambiance:** The decor, with its intricate carvings and soft lighting, creates an intimate setting that's perfect for both a romantic evening or a gathering with friends. The music adds a soulful backdrop, enhancing the overall experience. **Conclusion:** Baluchi - A Pan Indian Destination lives up to its name by offering a broad canvas of Indian flavors, though with room for refinement in certain dishes to truly capture the essence of regional authenticity. For anyone looking to explore the breadth of Indian cuisine in one sitting, Baluchi provides a commendable experience, wrapped in hospitality that makes you feel like an honored guest in someone's home. While not every dish might hit the mark of perfection, the journey through the menu is certainly worth taking for any food enthusiast or someone looking to dive into the culinary diversity of India.
A gem of a place which is nestled near London Bridge station. If you are looking for parking then it is nearby in a parking garage and couple of minutes walk to the place I a have added the picture of the car parking place We went for the lunch and the Al carte menu caters for all the starters are very nice and there are plenty of fish dishes As a vegetarian we went for the main and bread, ordered the veg biryani and Dal with Nan breads and also had some coffee and ice cream as pudding Service was spot on the food tasted amazing and just right not too spicy and you can actually taste and smell the food. The Biryani was accompanied by a portion of raita which was very nice We had ice creams as pudding even though there was a variety of indian desserts I did fancy the Payasam from Kerala but my tummy was full and need to come here just got some pudding Got to mention about the loo they have heated seats and this was quite impressive Overall a very good experience and quite enjoyed it and would definitely recommend this place Thank you
High chai experience- a delightful afternoon tea! Anu and the rest of the staff were friendly and attentive to our needs. Masala chai was bottomless and presented in authentic tiny glasses. The food was delicious and we were allowed a refill if still peckish! An opulent settling with mouthwatering dishes. I would have preferred a papri chaat instead of bhel but that’s just my personal preference. The gulab lassi was a delight, Cool and refreshing on a hot summer day. We enjoyed our experience and can’t wait to come again for the dinner service !
Stumbled across this restaurant whilst looking for lunch options in the area. We were blown away by the experience, so much so, this is the 1st review I've ever written. The venue is stunning, the service was excellent. Professional friendly staff, heated plates etc. Then there is the food itself! Superperbly presented, delicious and aromatic. Both starters and both mains. Highly, highly recommended
Absolutely awesome! Indian food and hospitality at its best. Chef Ranga and Rishi, you rock! Together with Moses and the team, you made us feel incredibly special. I've been here a few times and have always been impressed, but this weekend you truly blew it out of the park with your extraordinary hospitality and care. Can't wait to come back! Looking forward to come back and try the Hi Chai next time …
Baluchi at The Lalit gives a wonderful experience of fine dining for Indian cuisine when you are in central London. Boasting of pan India dishes on its menu, you will be surprised with nuances like sandalwood scented tandoor roasted chicken tikka, Kashmiri slow cooked lamb shank, purani dilli ka butter chicken, monk fish Malabari, and the pan infused gulab jamun – all authentic, but with a modern twist. Executive Chef Jomon Kuriakose’s bold attempt to present these specialized dishes on the menu is laudable and stands out. The taste, flavour, aroma, spice mix, and even the presentation of the dishes we picked were simply superb. Kudos, Jomon! We were also surprised by the availability of parking spaces within the property, which is located right in the heart of the city - walking distance from London Tower Bridge. That gives you an excellent opportunity to click a few pictures of some of the iconic and world-famous structures in the city. The restaurant is set in the atmosphere of an old grammar school’s assembly hall; so be prepared to encounter “Teacher’s Room”, “Headmaster’s Room”, “Cosy Classroom” and the like as you move around in the property. Thank you, Jomon and Baluchi, for giving us an awesome and enjoyable dining experience on our visit to the city.
If you are around tower bridge and craving for authentic Indian food, this restaurant is the place to go. You can hardly go wrong with a restaurant in Tunga hotel group. Restaurant has great ambience and large historic dining room. Definitely ask manager about history of the building and you will be amazed. Try any vegan, vegetarian, non-veg option and you will not be disappointed. I will highly recommend starting with appetizers and making way to main course. Special shoutout to Gayathri for being a wonderful host.
Great food in a beautifully decorated restaurant. Location is pretty good too :)
Feel like home
great
Recently went there for dinner, recommended by a friend. Limited menu serving indian cuisine, we started of with the veg kebab platter. Disappointing portions for the price charged, wouldn t recommend anyone. For mains, loved the dal makhni, alleypey kozhi chicken curry along with chilli garlic naan and aloo kulcha. Highly recommend to try it. Paneer palak was okayish for vegetarians. Hospitality was bang on, loved the ambience. Priced at a higher range but totally worth the visit
An incredibly successful evening. No matter what you talk about, the reception, the service to the table, the very nice explanation of the menu, of course the food. All in all, a successful evening with wonderful food. Highly recommended.
One of the best Indian food in London. The service was fabulous. Taste and quality was amazing. I would recommend them to try their best Dal Baluchi which is their signature dish. I had good food.
Best Indian restaurant in London
Very tasty and very good service in London
Delicious food and attentive staff in a beautiful building. What more could you ask for!!
The food and atmosphere were excellent. I have eaten here twice and my mother has eaten here many times over the years and loved it. I gave 1 star because the staff is untrained about assistance dogs. I noted that I was bringing an assistance dog in my online booking and received a phone call from the restaurant several minutes later telling me that no dogs, not even assistance dogs, were allowed. I asked the employee if she knew what an assistance dog was. I told her about the restaurants legal obligations and said she needed to go do her homework on assistance dogs before my arrival. She said she didnt know and would call me back. I told her that I would not travel to the restaurant at all unless she confirmed the restaurant would respect the law and accommodate me. She went away and then came back saying yes. Once we were there, the service was great, but I should not have to beg over the phone for my legal rights to be upheld! It is the managers job to train the staff about assistance dogs, not mine. This is unacceptable for any restaurant, but especially a high end one. Again, the staff at the restaurant were all great, but the bad experience on the phone soured our meal and made us worry on the way over that we might be turned away once we got there. You can do better.
I absolutely loved the experience at Baluchi. Celebrated my anniversary and the service provided by Gayathri was of top standards.
An oasis among the hustle & bustle. Old time elegance combined with contemporary fine dining. Very reasonable prices for a lot of pampering. A must visit place. Delicious drinks & beautifully cooked Indian food with a twist. Went fir nieces birthday. Planning to go for daughters birthday. A place one could get addicted to. The sevicevreminded me of the Taj hotel in Mumbai. Had the veggie tandoori sharer for starters. I was very delicious& one gets to try all the veggie starters. Today, too, was my daughters birthday meal. Seems like it might become a tradition. Vegetarian options: Every dish has a veggie option.
The food tasted fantastic! Very pleasant, attentive and knowledgeable staff. Nice and very clean premises.
Fantastic service, food and environment! The staff were attentive without being intrusive. They had good knowledge of allergies and intolerances and helped put together a tasty meal adapted to this. The food tasted delicious and was delicately prepared. Really hope to visit them again if there is another trip to London!
Very nice
Food at Baluchi was really exceptional, the best weve had in London so far and service from Devanshu was excellent.
Fantastic food and service. A hidden gem.
Awesome food and great service. Highly recommended for Indian food
The restaurant has a nice décor, lively chandeliers, all in all good experience! It is a very expensive restaurant, the food is good, but not wow.
Fantastic lunch set menu. Quality food in a Lovely setting. Chiara was amazing. Kept a close eye on us from afar without being too intrusive. She was very quick to offer warmed sharing plates when she realised we were sharing our food. Overall fantastic.
really good food and service! Farddin made our experience great:)
High chai - the waiter at the welcome desk was not aware of our reservation. The booking was made to celebrate sisters birthday. I would not class the ambiance as high tea atmosphere it was very loud, the service was poor, waiters not attentive, sadly this was mainly from the manager, 1 or 2 staff members were nice, the staff spoke very little English, the food was edible and overall the experience was not great that we wanted to leave as soon as possible. For the tea we were offered only 2 options, they do not have a variety (other choices of teas or coffee) we asked but they did not have this. Would not class this experience as high tea.
Delicious food, excellent service, beautiful setting. Would absolutely go back! Dietary restrictions: Gluten free Recommended dishes Hariyali Chicken Tikka, Butter Chicken
Excellent meal and great service
What an amazing venue (very different in a good way), service top notch and the food was sublime. One of the best Indian restaurants weve ever been to
Very good, excellent food and service. The venue is very beautiful.
To begin with, the ambience and hospitality was at its best. The food was amazing and we really enjoyed ourselves. Overall, dining at Baluchi was a delight from start to finish. Thanks Team! Food : 5/5
Nestled amidst the bustling streets of Tooley Street, Baluchi stands as a beacon of authenticity and excellence in Indian cuisine. Recently, I had the pleasure of dining at this esteemed establishment, and it proved to be an experience that surpassed all expectations. In conclusion, Baluchi is a culinary gem that deserves every accolade it receives. Whether youre seeking an authentic taste of India or simply looking for a memorable dining experience, this establishment delivers on all fronts. Prepare to embark on a gastronomic journey that will leave you with memories to savor long after the meal is over.
Worst experience, they give frozen parathas instead of freshly prepared in breakfast. Overpriced and poor service.
Its not just an amazing Indian restaurant. This is a special experience from the moment we walked in. Every moment is like a special Bollywood movie. Except its real. We will be back for any business or personal special occasion.
We had been to London on 30th March for dinner.. I am very disappointed with the service provided...The manager (Danny) does not know how to treat customers. Even if we are here to have a light meal without alcohol...we should be treated with respect... He seemed to be very disappointed that we ordered only 3 rotis and Palak paneer... He was asking us if only this much is sufficient or seemed to be surprised that we are not ordering drinks... We paid £72 for food and were not treated good... I did not expect this from such a reputed hotel The food taste was good..
Really nice place with amazing food
The food here is amazing and not overly priced compared to the high standards of quality and authenticity of flavours. Would highly recommend the lamb shank, kebabs and mango and cocnut naan. We were served by Ishwar and were made to feel very comfortable. Tge place also has a unique and stunning ambience. We had an amazing lunch overall.
Everything was perfect. Great food.
Delicious
The service and the food at this restaurant is absolutely amazing. I highly recommend the bhindi curry as I personally haven t had a better version of it at any place. The waiters at Baluchi were very warm and welcoming which made my family and I feel very comfortable and we ended up coming here twice within the same week.
Absolutely awesome food, I enjoyed the whole experience, the people who served are kind enough to listen to us and getting what we exactly need. This place used to be a school once upon a time and the ambience is outstanding. Must try! Vegetarian options: The malai broccoli was yummy and I my mouth still watering when I am thinking about that while writing this. And the butter naan was melting on the mouth
Booked a table for 6 for a 60th birthday celebration. From the moment of our arrival, the welcome, attention to the details ( a special cradle for handbags) , the food, a desserts, the cute little birthday cake - everything was spot on. Thank you for making this special occasion so perfect!
I went for the afternoon tea experience. All I can say that it was beautiful, the food was amazing we got our value for money since you can order the food as many times as you want. The staff was very attentive and they ensured that their service as efficient and they were very accommodating. It was value for money, and they made my mums birthday very special. So thank you to all the staff there I will definitely come back soon!
Excellent place for family Vegetarian options: Excellent for food lovers with famiy Food : 5/5 |
SUPERRB .....
Great meal as always at Baluchi s, with fantastic service from Gayathri. At her recommendation we had the monk fish malabari, with the special (from the chefs Mums recipe!) alleppey kozhi curry and a basket of breads. It s not cheap, but it s lovely food and a very nice location.
Very good experience in there everyone should visit this place. I m in love with baluchi
ABSOLUTELY STUNNING PAN-INDIAN FINE DINING . @Baluchi restaurant inside the LaLit hotel blew me away with their stunning decor The indigo blue chandeliers, high ceilings, all set in the historic Grade II listed former St. Olave s Grammar School s Assembly Hall. . Perfect place to celebrate International Womens Day or treat your mum for Mothers Day this weekend. They have a wonderful 4-course set menu for this occasion that comes with a glass of prosecco . We tried: Kebab Platter with Achari paneer tikka, sandal wood chicken tikka, charred salmon Dal Baluchi Monkfish Malabari Butter Chicken Palak Paneer Paratha, Naan, Coconut Naan and Saffron Rice Saffron Cheesecake . Location: near London Bridge Closest station: London Bridge Price: £50-60pp (3 courses) Overall rating: 10/10
Fantastic Indian cuisine but pricey. 2 starters, 2 mains with sides and Indian bread, one dessert to share, couple of beers £200. However if price isnt an issue, the food, ambiance and service are 10/10 Of particular note are the octopus starter and king prawn main.
I like the best location
Couldn t rate this restaurant more highly. The food , decor and the service were all amazing. Everything was 1st class. Our waiter Gurav deserves special mention
The food was mid and service was okay, not really worth the price. Plus they added an extra service cost of 12.5% of the total bill without actually telling us, and when we asked for a refund they said they couldn t do it. Sounds a bit ridiculous to me for such a high end, fine dining restaurant. Definitely not going to go again
Food was good
Dishes served at Baluchi by Chef Jomon was so delicious and scrumptious
10 on 10 a place must visit for food and service, best naan in London. It is near tower bridge and serves best Indian cuisine. If you are visiting baluchi do try there paan kulfi it is woooow
Really lovely Indian food - quite spicy! They were able to adapt things to be vegan for us so we had 6 or so vegan dishes. Would recommend. Bring a cardi - its chilly in the lofty old school hall
Amazing building, beautiful to have your dinner, atmosphere is out if this world. food is very tasty and fresh and staff were excellent, nice to see old building at good use Food
Elegant and classic restaurant, high-end Indian cuisine with great atmosphere.
I was completely impressed with their professionalism and customer service
Stopped in for lunch. Looking for chicken tikka masala and was surprised it wasn t on the menu. Server suggested butter chicken. Great suggestion as it was delicious. Mango lasi was tasty too. The naan was okay, nothing remarkable.
The food was amazing! From the kebab platter, lamb Britain, to the butter chicken, even the dessert! Staff were really friendly, would definitely recommend.
An absolute culinary experience! Executive Chef Jomon- hats off to you! Every dish had a story to tell, an element of creative and visual genius but most of all a symphony of flavours. This was our second visit and you did not disappoint us at all- can t wait to come again!
Lovely food
Good ambiance
Best Indian restaurant on the south side of the Thames!
Baluchi is one of the best Indian restaurant I have ever been to in London. Really good food & amazing ambience. The staff is very professional and helpful. Its an extension of Lalit hotel so if you are visiting London and staying there I would recommend both the hotel & restaurant. You get one of the best views of the Shard from there Parking: There is an option to park at Lalit for free if you are dining at Baluchi, if the parking is full Q-park parking is 5 mins walk
Great food and service
It has been an amazing experience trying Baluchi for dinner, with great taste, superb quality , nice service and scrumptious food made my trip super exciting.
wonderful service. each waiter was very kind and attentive, lovely experience at a beautiful location.
Most Comfortable place, loved it
Really poor service and very mediocre food. Service staff needs to be professionally trained if you are charging such prices. For example, take away the wine glasses from the table if no one is having it. For long periods of time, no server bothered to ask if we needed anything - I had to literally walk to ask them to come to the table. We asked for onion/chillis with food which came at the end and we were charged £8 for that! Much better restaurants in London at the same price point.
Delicious food. Really delicious!
Well, it might be nice, We didnt like the fact that the attendant called out a minimum bill per fee of 40 Euros. We left even though, we might have spent more. Be respectful guys!
One of the best pan indian restaurant. Dishes are delicious please try fish tikka, daal balluchi
This is my second time in London and my coworker found Baluchi so we decided to try it. The atmosphere is unlike anything Ive experienced. Really breathtaking! The service was absolutely incredible. Gundeep treated us wonderfully and was kind and extremely attentive. And if course, the food... Ive had India cuisine from all over but this was some of the very best Ive had in my life. Im so impressed by Baluchi and I cant recommend it enough. Thank you! This will be a regular dinner place for me whenever Im back in London.
Two stars because the staff were nice (if inexpert) and the room was beautiful. Food was very disappointing. There are so many great curry places in SE1 - Gunpowder. Mango Tree. We got great wine (£85) and our bill was £220 for veggie starter one bread and two mains.
Beautiful setting, very attentive staff members. We loved what we ordered and food came on time. Very relaxed environment and I would definitely visit again.
The restaurant states it closes 1030. Booked for 930 on Sunday in a bank holiday Arrived 940. The waiter refused to even let us sit down. Horrible treatment.
Great Ambience and loved there Food , I would sure recommend this restaurant.
A hidden gem in the heart of Bermondsey! My husband and I visited on Monday 1st May with my parents in law who had visited the restaurant a few times before. Firstly, let me start by saying the restaurant is beautiful! The dining room is the star of the show with its blue colour scheme. I was surprised and delighted to find dishes on the menu that are traditionally Pakistani such as Kadhi! I ordered it and it was delicious as was all the food! I cannot understand why it is so quiet/not busy?! My parents in law have said that they have visited on a Friday evening and its been half full. I really hope they get more guests visiting as it is a hidden gem and I would hate to see it close due to lack of custom! We definitely will be visiting again!
We are from out of town, out of country. We have eaten at a lot of Indian restaurants. This one has the best food we ve ever had, plus the service was spectacular and the restaurant itself is beautiful inside. Manager and chef came to personally check on our satisfaction.
The staff are very friendly and supportive . I went on 9th May 2023. The dinner staff and the bar staff are so so so welcoming and humble and acknowledging. I really felt very good and warm. I food is exclamatory . I tried the sandalwood chicken tikka it is awesome, the ambience is so elegant . Recommended dishes
Amazing food but the service was bellow par. Very apologetic for the issues but too amateur for a restaurant in a 5 star hotel.
The ambience and comfort is too good. Ordered a variety of dishes Chicken, Lamb for main course. It a team outing and everyone enjoyed the food. The portion/quantity could be better for the price. But expensive but worth paying for.
Good food,good service
Its classy look hotel..foods are very tasty and spicy..our service is super..instalty give a ordered foods..nice
We went there for dinner on my daughter s birthday. It is a lovely, peaceful, cozy Indian restaurant with an awesome service and great and deliciously spicy food. The atmosphere is relaxing with lovely music. The waiters brought a wonderful little cake with a candle to my daughter at the end of our dinner and she was delighted. We will surely come back next time we are in London. Thanks!
Its been 1 year we moved to England from India and after trying so many Indian restaurants from last 1 year, this is the first restaurant which gave us the complete north Indian Authentic taste with no compromise to any of the flavours. We had palak paneer, butter naan, rice, raita and gajar ka halwa and all the things were upto the mark. Extremely delicious. Thanks for not compromising with the flavour.
Loved the place.. went for Hubby s birthday gr8 vibe finger licking food . As the saying goes in Hindi . Har nivale par subhan allah kehne ko Ji karta hai!!
I cannot say enough about how amazing this place is. The venue is outstanding, truly beautiful. The food was as good as Ive had at any Indian restaurant anywhere. Cocktails were unique and first rate. Service could not be better. Please go here. Trust me.
Great Indian restaurant at the Lalit London. Excellent Authentic Menu by Chef Jomon. Must try
Booked an afternoon tea via groupon for a birthday celebration, the food was great. The staff were welcoming and attentive, we had a great time. They even gave a complimentary birthday cake. Ambience was calm and music in the background was soothing. A little on the pricey end but worth it for your special someone.
Absolute gem of a place serving authentic Indian cuisine. The chef s special Kozhi curry was the highlight and the chef mentioned that it s his mother s dish that he has modified a bit. The ambience is spot on for a place serving such wonderfully made dishes. The staff is super cheerful and makes you feel welcome. Kudos to the team for creating this authentic Indian experience in London!
Best Indian food ever!
Beautiful location for dinner. Stunning x school assembly room, and the bar is a x teachers room. Service super attentive and a nice balance of checking on you with out being OTT. Food is simply stunning. We started with scallops and then chose the monk fish for mains. Superb. In a previous visit the lamb and chicken was equally as good. The atmosphere was a little quiet as the restaurant was empty for a Saturday night.
Excellent Indian Fine Dining Experience!! Visited them for our anniversary. Easy reservation. Limited parking available. Lovely ambience, food busting with flavours (Baluchi Dal was my favourite although everything we ordered was great!), attentive service (Atchayut was very prompt and attentive). The chief chef Jomon took the time to speak to us as well. Definitely coming back !! Thank you for making our day special !! Parking: About 5-6 cars No EV points
I went there today for dinner with a friend. I was mesmerised by the ambience, we went around kitchen closing time so We had to quickly decide and order.. we ordered vegetarian food curries rice and Naan bread. Sadly, the naan bread was burnt and not well cooked. We did tell one of servers but they didnt care about it and left it just like that we expected atleast a response from them. The hospitality experience was cold towards the customers. Im disappointed with the staff experience I had. I personally work in hospitality and I wouldnt want to treat my guests like that I hope they improve their guest service. PS- I loved the Kadhi Pakoda yum yum.
Amazing place. Loved the food especially the Kadhi Pakoda. Felt like at home. Gud ka parantha was truly delicious as desert. Would love to go back here again. Food : 5/5
Great food and beautiful interior, but kind of empty and quiet. I cant understand why as the food was great (albeit a bit pricey), but definitely worth the stop!
A great place if you re looking for luxurious ambience, great service and delicious food. Been here twice now and will definitely go back when I m in London again!
Pricey, but worthwhile for a great all-round experience.
Absolutely delicious! Great service and atmosphere too!
Vegetarian options: Less options on the menu but amazing taste Food
Awesome experience
Really nice environment and very friendly staff. Food us at another level. Will definitely vist again with friends
Some random guy he asking me to fake review he sent a link of this place ... weird
Nice ambiance, nice food and amazing cocktails. Service was ok
Fabulous fine dining. Lift your expectations. This place is top shelf. A wonderful venue, the old grammar school hall has been transformed into an opulent open space for graceful dining. We gasped when we entered. The food is masterfully prepared. The house specialities are amazing, with beautifully balanced spices and quality meat. All of the dishes we had were mouthwatering.
What a wonderful restaurant. The staff were friendly and attentive and the butter chicken and the naan were arguably the best I ve ever had with no hyperbole.
Excellent customer service. Excellent food experience
If you are missing Indian flavours outside of india, this is the place for you. Amazing food, great service. Visit it by appointment. Service is bit slow but it s worth waiting. Staff is so nice and warm, they make sure customer is satisfied. Visited this restaurant couple of times during our London trip and every time they amazed us with their food.
Great food great place to cheer up
Really disappointing food at £70 per head for two courses and very little alcohol (2 small bottles of beer in total for the table). Atmosphere was terrible - a cavernous room with few tables and bright lights. One of the most disappointing restaurants I have tried in a long time
I had hyderabad chicken biryani, allepey chicken curry and salmon curry with Naan, Roti. All tasted good. Limited menu items but good food. Nice ambience as well.
Its a fine dining experience.
Place is close to Tower Bridge. Ordered Daal Makhani and Laccha Parantha. Taste was amazing. Staff was very polite and friendly.
We had a fantastic breakfast at Baluchi. Staff are so friendly. Sales manager Mr. Sandeep has personally come and had a chat with us . This restaurant is a part of The Lalit luxury boutique hotels. Chef Jomon is working here who is famous in social media. This restaurant is close to London tower Bridge. We strongly recommend this place for food lovers as well as a great area for family dining out.
If you are missing Indian food in London..its place for you....good taste, great hospitality
It was a while ago, we went for afternoon tea hosted by one of the Bake off contestants. Food was very yummy and service was great. we have been wanting to be back for a while
Best for all things and good taste
This beautiful bar and restaurant serves incredible cocktails and is a perfect escape from the outside world. Its large but cosy. But the best thing are the heated seats in the toilets
Ambience, Staff Hospitality(Valisha, Taslima,Phuong, Farddin) & Food Food
Its even better than the Indian food I ate in India, the best food Ive ever had in my life. Its Indian food. However, it is also the most expensive Indian food in my life. Dont be discouraged by the lack of meat on the menu. If you eat here, you can gain confidence that you can live a herbivore lifestyle in case of emergency. This is a restaurant I definitely want to visit again. Double hit!
Excellent ambience and staff behaviour. But food taste could improve a lot, also food served was always on cold side. When asked, staff mentioned that this is how they serve. Food : 2/5
This restaurant was closed in Jan this year and probably will reopen in march but they dint bother to update it anywhere on Google or their website. We went specially there for dinner on my bday eve on 11th jan just to find out its not open.
An incredible dining experience, in a beautiful space. The staff was so friendly and helpful, and the food was delicious!
The high tea was very underwhelming and tasted not great! The chai was not good - tasted a little off and nothing like the chai from dishoom or any other indian restaurant. The lassi was good, but the food was not, it tasted mediocre and possibly frozen. The sweets also looked packaged, and did not taste very fresh. Would not recommend paying the high price for what they have to offer. Some of the food was undercooked. When we raised concerns, the manager didnt even come over and we paid upwards of 50 pounds per person for some dhokla, lassi, bhel, and samosa. PLEASE do not do the high tea experience here! I even posted the review before I left the building because of how much we both disliked it.
I would like to start of by saying Corneilu who was looking after us was very good. He took our drinks order and food order in good time and starters came out quickly. The mess that happened after wasnt his fault, he was rushed of his feet and all the time I was there he was jumping from table to table. Now into the issues. The starters came and were fine. Then it took an hour for our mains to arrive. And they only arrived because Corneilu chased it up. After an hour waiting the prawns came out. They sat on the table and got cold because it took a further 1Ominutes for anything else to come out. Burger came out cold too. The curry and naan were fine. Now we asked for the prawns and burger to be reheated or re cooked. Or something. Prawns came out again and were fine. But my burger was basically microwaved. It was a pile of Sloppy mushy mess. One bite and couldnt stomach it anymore. This was just the issue with the food and service. Issues started before we even arrived. Got a call to confirm reservation and was informed there was a party of 45 but they can accommodate us I was told. Excuse me? Accommodate me? I booked a month in advance. No ones doing me a favour here. Anyway should have listened to warning signs. Got there and it was like being at a corporate party. Someone was having their work do. Giving speeches. Walking around. Laughing and giggling. And while were sitting there theyre moving furniture about. Right through the restaurant. All this and its supposed to be my wedding anniversary meal. Safe to say I will never be there again and I do not recommend it to anyone at Absolute shambles. AVOID.
Fabulous tasting menu, excellent ambience and very attentive service. Particularly enjoyed the chicken dish.
Superlative food in a lovely setting. I strongly recommend this place.
forget the crown jewels. This place is the real gem!! feels like stepping back in time. dinner was top class - though be prepared to take your time and enjoy the place.
I visited for dinner here and must say food quality is awesome here. Service is good. Interior of restaurant gives you indian vibe. Drinks suggested by staff was awesome. We really enjoyed so much and definitely gonna visit again.
We had dinner on 08 August for my partner s birthday and the experience of food and service was just amazing. We had one of the best dinners in a long time. Especially Nathalia, the restaurant manager and her team was very kind and quick in providing service. Usually in 4-5 star restaurants, the food doesn t taste good but here we had the authentic taste of Indian food. We just enjoyed the time and would love to visit the place again.
The food was too good, esp the paneer tikka platter. Ambience and interiors had an Indian touch to them. There was however only 1 person to serve all tables, so the service took a little bit longer than expected.
This is an amazing restaurant. Firstly, we had trouble finding the parking and the concierge officer guided us well over the phone and also came to the gate so we could spot the parking. This felt like a really good gesture and encouraged us to try and find the parking. The food and ambience is amazing. We ordered mainly vegetarian food and the menu was limited due to covid however we still had an iconic experience.
Good Indian food and good service
Today it was our anniversary and we booked a table for 2. We order plenty aloth of food , as we full in middle and we didnt touch 3 items, so we asked for to pak those items that we didnt touched for us. And they clearly said no as its not in there rule. So we paid full amount of £170 just for eating stater 2 cocktails and one dish. So fully embarrassed with there service. Not gona recommend this restaurant to any one thanks.
Great food and authentic taste. Only downside is limited options on the the menu else great place to have Indian food.
This was a lovely find. Very close by to Tower Bridge and where we were to get to the Illuminated Boat Tour on Tower Pier. Baluchi is situated within the Lalit Hotel. It has a school hall appearance inside and is very elaborate and decorative. There was a great ambience inside, dome background music playing and a cosy atmosphere. It was booked for 7pm but got there at 7.10pm and they were able to accommodate for the change of time. The food dishes ordered were delicious and home cooked regional Indian dishes. Being a more upmarket restaurant, it was worth the cost! For a main course, side, drink and dessert, it was about £35-£40 per head. The main courses were fairly portioned and not too heavy like Indian takeaway places, but enough room for one of the traditional desserts! Baluchi is somewhere I would love to come back again to try one of the other dishes! Vegetarian options: Plenty of vegetarian options - practically half the menu! And some vegan ones also. Dietary restrictions: Everything on the menu was clearly labelled with dietary restrictions I.e. vegetarian, vegan, Gluten free, containing nuts and dairy free.
Great food and amazing venue
Really good Indian restaurant. The butter chicken was probably the best I ve had. The Naans and especially the cheese one were amazing! The chicken biryani was real good. Interesting margarita cocktail as well, with an indian twist! Only negative is that s Quite pricey and the decoration of the room looks a bit neglected.
Just go here. Food and service is perfection. And the ambience is welcoming, luxurious and yet comforting. Its a hidden gem still! Vegetarian options: Plenty of vegetarian options!
Total waste of time and food quality was very bad. We had food poisoning with severe diarrhea from the restaurant food. I have emailed many times now, but no response yet!!
Went as a family group, so tried quite a few of a dishes - samosas, chicken, lamb, paneer to name a few - Portions are reasonable and food so flavoursome. Excellent customer service. We really enjoyed the food in the relaxed atmosphere of the great hall. Would really like to go again soon.
I went there with a friend of mine for dinner and from the first second on I noticed how absolutely perfect their service is. Everyone was so customer-focused and friendly. The restaurant itself is stunning. The food was great as well. Highly recommended.
Very grand and quite restaurant with lovely food and service
Pricey but very good Indian food
Very nice place for lunch, afternoon tea and dinner.
Just finished a wonderful dinner in the Great hall of Baluchis. Worth every bit as you get to take in the magnificent architecture of the old St Olaves and keeping up with the theme the amazing Baluchi and its mouth watering food. All courtesy of Chef de Cuisine Jomon Kuriakose aka @chefjomon who took a special interest in us just by seeing a familiar malayali surname in the many bookings he had for the day! He recognised we were from the same state and made us feel very homely by giving the grand tour and sharing his vision of plating naadan authentic Indian food with the subtle touch of divine Kerala taste. One to visit and experience definitely...
Catered and hosted our wedding reception. Cant say highly enough about the food. All 61 guests praised the lamb starter and butter chicken. I loved the paan kulfi. Hotel manager went above and beyond the call. They have mine, my wifes and probably our guests custom for a long time.
Fabulous food, amazing chef
Great service and a delicious Indian high tea - amazing flavors, high quality masala chai. As someone who traveled to India and had a lot of high end Indian meals, I was impressed!
good food, but service was sub standard. were given starters within 5 minutes of ordering, and mains arrived directly after starters when we asked for a 20 minute break. we asked for more time between courses,.so they reheated the food and sent the same (now cold) nans 20 minutes later. going by other reviews it must have been an off day, but the service was rushed, and no single waiter over looking the table, at least 5 different waiters offering service within minutes of each other, resulting in conflicting service. did not even get asked if I wanted another drink. ps. the restaurant was not busy, felt like ordering food at McDonalds. not the expected service from a fine dining restaurant. the chef did come talk to us and gave us free deserts as compensation, but the experience wont be forgotten. The front of staff needed to coordinate the staff better.
We had a very nice dinner full of flavours. Service was very polite and taking care of you all the time. We said we didnt like much spicy and they helped us choosing the proper dishes. Even the chef came out of the kitchen to ask us if everything was ok!
Located in The Lalit hotel. Went over the Xmas holidays - Was a bit quiet, so Service was exceptional (and personal). Had a lovely (Spanish?) Server called Santiago who was talktative and helpful with recommendations. Food was very, very good. In particular - the Mushroom kebab (melt in your mouth soft) & Paneer Makhani-Naan for mains. Dessert - Paan infused Kulfi was falooda was dee-lish! Only one thing that was average was the Kateil (Jackfruit) Kofte. Couldnt make out whether there was any Jackfruit in it! Meal for two - two starters, two mains (with two naans), two desserts & two cocktails came to £110 (incl Service). In short: RECOMMEND.
Great location, very close to London Bridge Station. Venue was beautiful and so was the food!
Staff was a bit snobbish and threw a bit of attitude. Didn t get my order right twice and didn t even bother to apologise. Go there only if you don t have any other options . Food quality is ok.
Its one of the best restaurants near Tower Bridge
Is this the best Indian in London?? Superb food, wonderful setting in a converted school Hall. Roomy, well spaced tables. Friendly waiting staff. The food, truly exceptional, great flavours all nicely judged. Excellent portions . In a word perfect!
Amazing space although does not really know what it is trying to do with its decor. Echoey lift music added to the confusion of ambience. It should have been more lively on a Friday night. Food was tasty and worth another visit perhaps. Octopus well spiced, venison tender, and rich black dahl unctuous. Marred by service, but perhaps we had a new recruit. Do not ask to take plates away before we have finished, don t top up the wine every 5 seconds, and when the woman of the party asks for the bill, don t give it to the man. Drinks ridiculously expensive with a 300% markup.
Didnt enjoy the food as much.not a good service and expensive.
Not any offering if someone doesnt like spicy food
Visited here for Dinner. Visited the Teachers Room first for a delicious cocktail. The staff literally couldn t do enough for us and helped us with our food choices. The food was out of this world with so many pan-Indian dishes to choose from. My spouse is not the biggest fan of Indian food but loved the Baluchi. Would highly recommend.
Amazing stay ... great rooms... lunch and breakfast superb ... will definitely stay again and highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a comfortable stay in London or just a great place to eat
Lovely setting but I found the food very average and the service decidedly lack lustre and bordering on curt with the exception of one solitary waitress who saved this from being a two star review. Unlikely to return.
Great concept, cute presentation. However, the experience was underwhelming. I scheduled a High Chai for 2:30pm on a Friday. I was one of two dining parties in the entire Gallery of the Lalit. As a single diner, I was seated directly in the center, facing the wall. The empty space was quiet with soft music piped in; staff were mingling about setting up for (what I hope) is an evening rush and a phone loudly ringing near reception, and the echo of footsteps and dishes in the room over. First was the masala chai and mango lassi. Cute presentation, I was given a small whimsical glass of tea and a bottle of lassi with a straw. both good. I ordered the vegetarian plate. The samosas were good and probably the highlight. The veggie kathi roll was also okay but not a personal favorite. The second tray included the array of chutneys, bhel, and dhokla. The bhel had a slightly salty flavor that lingered, similar to a large flaky salt. Would have preferred a citrus or tangy aftertaste instead. And the khaman dhokla was dry, even with the addition of chutneys. Top level sweets were also good, but nothing fantastic and could have had more variety. I was provided only one cup of chai, and was not revisited by wait staff after the snacks were delivered and waited almost another 20 minutes past finishing before I was asked about the bill. The handful of staff in the Gallery seemed to be unaware there was a customer and spent this time pacing across the room in front of my table without so much as a smile to warm up my dining experience. While this is something unique and a wonderful space, it lacked passion, creativity, and liveliness that it should have had. I would my experience receiving masala chai while queuing for Dishoom was much more invigorating and provided more value in quality and environment. The lack of service and personality make the High Chai at the Lalit a pass rather than a cant-miss.
The food was mostly very good, although horrendously overpriced... that said, the portion sizes were huge for the main courses (one main course could comfortably feed two people with normal appetites) so that may account for it somewhat... My only complaints about the food are that the poppadoms were very dry and tasted almost entirely of black pepper, and the nan bread was doughy and tasted overwhelmingly of raw garlic... However, the low rating is really for the service, which was pretty appalling. The restaurant was more than half empty and there were plenty of staff milling around, yet we had to wait 3-4 minutes at the door before someone even came to seat us. Then another 10 minutes for a menu. 10 minutes for an order of bottled beer to arrive. 30 minutes for the meal to arrive. 20 minutes to get someones attention to get a bill... and THEN another 15 minutes to get someones attention to pay the bill. Ridiculous. Ask yourself if you really want to pay £40 per head for this kind of service... Also the menu was incomprehensibly laid out - there was an attempt to be post-modern by having a bizarre school theme, but this was just confusing and irritating to be honest.
We had a wonderful evening, the food is excellent, the waiters are very kind and smiling and the place is really beautiful. We decided to try the naan bar and we dont regret it, the naans are just a REGAL, they are made in front of us, served hot... A delight! I will return to this restaurant every time I visit London! We had a wonderful evening, the food is excellent, the waiters are very kind and smiling and the place is really beautiful. We decided to try the Naanery and we dont regret it, the naans are just a real TREAT, they are made in front of us, served all hot.. A delight! I will come to this restaurant every time I visit London!
Amazing setting, (very) high ceilings, attentive service. The menu is varied but not overwhelming. Tasty Indian food, spicy but not too hot, flavourful but not too greasy. All served in style. Food not only tasting good it also looks great, in a balanced, non ostentatious way. Deserts are all in the same delightfully tasty and beautiful to look at vein.
Food was average. Late Service.. We were waiting for 15 + min to get the bill.
