73 St James's St, London SW1A 1PH, United Kingdom
Chutney Mary is a trend-setting landmark fine dining institution located in elegant St. James's, in the heart of London’s West End. Established in 1990 in fashionable Chelsea, it relocated to St. James’s in 2015. It has just receved the prestigious AA Restaurant of the Year Award. The much-awarded restaurant redefines quintessential Indian cuisine – combines authentic flavours, reinterprets traditional recipes, applies innovative techniques, & adds world-class presentation. The impressive timeless interior fuses glamour & eclectic India.
We had a wonderful evening. Staff were extremely attentive and very happy to offer their suggestions and knowledge of the dishes. Never an empty glass, 100 percent would return and recommend.
Food is amazing. We loved every dish. The best dish is the lamb biryani and the butter chicken was good. Better is to have a reservation ahead to have comfy night.
Amazing Indian food. The lobster starter was so delicious! The duck and lamb curry were really good mains. The cocktails were very fun too and the service was excellent
The appetizers were the shining star of the place. All were very very good (we got the paneer, lamb samosa, and chaat) - highly recommend. The entrees were good but mildly disappointing since the apps were so unique and eclectic. We had to constantly keep asking for water - they should leave a carafe on the table. Service was friendly.
This restaurant delivers more than just food—it offers an experience that feels a cut above. The standout dishes for me were the Fried Prawns, Lamb Chops, Butter Chicken Masala, and Bengal Lamb Curry. The Mango Chili Daiquiri was a lovely cocktail, and while I didn’t try it myself, the Apple Halwa Tart came highly recommended by a colleague. The service was impeccable—easy to get attention by a number of staff without being intrusive. Located in one of London’s nicer areas, it’s clear this isn’t your average Indian restaurant. Owned by the same people behind Veeraswamy and Amaya, this place is obviously known for delivering quality dining experiences with a modern twist on Indian cuisine. While the prices reflect the quality, it’s worth it for a special occasion. Definitely a memorable dining experience, perfect for when you want something more upmarket without being pretentious. Looking forward to heading back to try more of the menu! Expect to pay around £175 per head for a couple of starters, a couple of mains, accompanying naans, a dessert, two cocktails and service charge.
Good but not outstanding! Candlelight atmosphere. Service was ok. The menu is short but extensive. Every dish was well prepared, flavourful and tasty. Wine glasses should perhaps be updated and the spicy dishes pointed out on the menu.
Chutney Mary provided an unforgettable birthday celebration, thanks to its fantastic blend of great food, atmosphere, and service. My sisters treated me to a meal there, and it couldn’t have been a better choice for the occasion. The food was truly a highlight—elegantly presented and bursting with flavors. Each dish seemed thoughtfully prepared, with a modern twist on traditional Indian cuisine. Whether you’re after rich curries or delicately spiced appetizers, the menu caters to a range of tastes, and everything we tried was absolutely delicious. The atmosphere was equally impressive, offering an upscale yet welcoming vibe. The décor was stylish, with subtle touches of Indian influence that created a warm and inviting environment. It felt like a special place to celebrate, with the perfect balance of elegance and comfort. Service was another standout. The staff was attentive without being overbearing, making sure we were well taken care of throughout the evening. From thoughtful recommendations to timely service, they enhanced the experience, making it feel even more personal and special for a birthday celebration. Overall, Chutney Mary provided the perfect setting for a memorable birthday meal. Whether you’re celebrating or just enjoying a great evening out, this restaurant delivers on every front—food, atmosphere, and service. Highly recommend!
Chutney Mary was an unforgettable experience, it truly lives up to its reputation as London’s premier Indian restaurant. The lobster starter was outstanding, and every dish was a perfect blend of spices, delivering authentic flavors with a refined touch. The service was attentive, matching the restaurant’s high-end atmosphere. The dimly lit, romantic setting made for a memorable dining experience, though be prepared for the prices that reflect the quality. A friend brought me here, and it definitely came highly recommended for anyone seeking top-tier Indian cuisine.
At lunch, despite us wanting to order small plates the server insisted we were not ordereing enough food which made us very uncomfortable. Wish we had left then, as we ended up with far too much food!!
Great meal, wonderful butter chicken. Everything was tasty .
It worth the try.
Samosa and meat biryani 10/10.. Frankly, the biryani deserves more than 10 Samosa and lamb biriani is a must
Starters were great but main course were very disappointing; nihari gohst, malabar prawns, butter chicken flavours were well below expectations. Service was satisfactory, our waiter did get 3 ppls order wrong and missed items which came out late. Ambiance was lively
Wow! What a restaurant! Stumbled across this restaurant with my friends on our way back from some Christmas shopping. We went in for one cocktail after lunch and ended up staying for dinner. Lovely ambience - warm friendly and inviting - rich storytelling artwork. Great staff - knowledgeable and attentive. The cocktails were brilliant - would recommend the blueberry cosmo! Plenty of options for meat eaters and veggies alike! Cooked to perfection. Portion sizes were super reasonable too. So glad to have found this gem. Would defo return and recommend.
Delicious meal. Chutney Marys is one of Londons oldest Indian restaurants it is located in the heart of Mayfair literally opposite St. James place.
I ve been here a few times, personally think it s over rated. The wines of the menu were poor. £200 per person so not a cheap place
Service, food and atmosphere are amazing. Yes it s a bit on the pricier side but none of the food disappoints, it s great for a special occasion. Butter chicken & the duck were standouts.
I havent got the words to describe how wonderful the food was. The chef works absolute magic! All staff are courteous and friendly and go the extra mile to make you comfortable and help with advice on your choice of dish and what would go well with it. The ambience is excellent too. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and I would definitely recommend to anyone.
If I can submit a review with less than a one star I would do it The worst experience and customer service I ve ever experienced in the whole world, starting from the smallest waiter until the biggest manager in the place, no one know how to treat costumers here and their attitude is so disrespectful. Food
The atmosphere is very beautiful Some of the food is good, some of it is good The butter chicken wins with red sauce, beef ribs, and samosas The downside is that the menu is very limited Prices are high
A little while since I have been to the restaurant and it was so lovely to still be greeted by my name and welcomed back by Ronnie, the best waiter in London ! Its like coming home. Perfect service and my guest was blown away by the quality of the food. A great evening.
Best indian restaurant !
Food was good, service was poor, there was an attitude.
Great evening with exceptional food. They went out of their way to make it special for a birthday.
Vegetarian options: Food was interesting , the drinks were amazing however the service was slow. Dietary restrictions: The table next to us had a food allergy and there was a lack of understanding Kid-friendliness: Kids arent allowed Wheelchair accessibility: The bar is accessible, the main restaurant is only accessible through a back entrance we moved to eat in the bar as a result. Unfortunately the accessible toilet is in the main restaurant and not accessible from the bar.
The restaurant is elegant and the atmosphere is nice. It is worth a visit, but the quality of food is average
This is one of my fav Indian restaurants in London, the food is amazing, atmosphere is nice. Im gratitude to Mr. Betio carvalho, one of the most professional waiter that you can enjoy your time during your visit, he is really a Gentleman.
Lovely, smart Indian restaurant, quite pricey but delicious- highly recommended
The food was beautiful art for my eyes and palate. The service from Naikit was attentive, prompt and friendly.
Lovely food great staff fabulous location. What else can l say but it was wonderful. And you pay top dollar. Enjoy
Their food is great, they have an award for the most delicious Indian restaurant in the world or something like that
They care about the money before the reservation
This restaurant has proven to be uncooperative for the following reasons: I faced an unavoidable circumstance that prevented me from honoring my reservation. Unfortunately, I failed to inform the restaurant in advance about canceling the booking. As a result, a fee of £120 was deducted. I reached out to the reservations team and was contacted by someone who introduced himself as the manager, named Sajjan. I tried to negotiate either rescheduling the booking or receiving compensation in the form of a new reservation date. However, he rudely and dismissively refused my request and instructed me to send an email instead. Despite sending an email to the reservations team, no action was taken to address my concern. This experience has revealed their exceptionally poor customer service and lack of care for their patrons. I strongly discourage dining at this establishment, as their customer service is exploitative and unprofessional. My overall rating for this restaurant is exceedingly low.
Impeccable Service and superb presentation, too . The Staff had good knowledge of almost all the dishes on the menu, as a living encyclopaedia. When we asked for his opinion on some dishes, which he recommended, like Malveni Spice Vegetable Kofta Curry with Prawn Biryani and other were truly were outstanding ©Ash-Cash
Chutney Mary used to be my go-to for comforting, authentic Indian good, but recently, they ve innovated so so much that their classic Indian dishes are unrecognisable. For example their samosas are now an architectural cone stuffed with corn and an overwhelming sour molasses aftertaste. The Afghani chicken is cooked well but lacks the depth and spice you d expect from a good chicken tikka. The aloo chaat has as well changed to make it look more artistic, and less flavourful. The saving grace was the butter chicken, which until now remains unchanged. Would I go again? Yes but less frequently. Would I enjoy it as much as I once did? No. Sometimes, the best way to move forward is to stay true to what you do best.
The most delicious Indian restaurant in London hands down
always a pleasure dining with customers at Chutney mary!
The price for the food is not worth it and the quantity is also small.
The food is delicious, but the service is very bad. There is a 60-pound charge for dinner Honestly, I will never repeat the experience
i love this restaurant! every thing was amazing
Our server Rabeena was absolutely amazing!!
Highly recommended. A very classy and fancy restaurant
A very bad people in the Reciption They are not helpful Bad experience
Lovely atmosphere and through and through a solid restaurant experience. Its easy to see that this is considered one of Londons very best Indian restaurants. The service at this place is amazing. The interior is very nice. The food is in a class of its own, but the prices are, in return, very high.
Its an amazing restaurant, food is great, service also good but little slow, Although the food is great, but I think its a bit expensive I invited a couple of friends who loved it, Vegetarian options: Amazing flavour
I recently attended a wedding at Chutney Mary, hoping for an authentic taste of Indian cuisine, but unfortunately, it fell far short of expectations. The three-course vegetarian meal lacked both spices and even basic seasoning, with no salt or pepper mills available on the tables. Water was scarce, with only a glass provided after asking, and overpriced wine sold at more than triple the retail price. While the ambiance may cater to those willing to spend generously, the experience offered a watered-down version of Indian culinary tradition. Sadly, this restaurant missed the mark on delivering the vibrant flavors it should have embraced. Vegetarian options: NOT GOOD
The food is delicious
We had lunch for my son s 30th birthday and the food was amazing, tasted great, and the staff were very friendly and professional! Would totally recommend
This is a great restaurant with great service serving amazing food and lovely drinks. An experience not to be missed.
A really excellent experience. The food, the atmosphere and the staff were amazing!
Trying way too hard. Firstly, it s a lovely setting, which I think is the primary draw from my experience. The food was decent but far from the best, comparable to Dishoom or similar. Also a little pretentious trying to be quirky rather than good. The popadoms were silly little crackers with some fairly tasteless sauces. Lamb chops were very good. Biryani was very good. Stand out was the roti, awful. More like a stale tortilla than a light and fluffy roti as they should be. The service felt very forced and borderline snobby. Didn t feel welcoming at all and felt like a pastiche of high end. Could/should be great, but feels too forced.
Have a wonderful meal tonight. Best sea bass I have had anywhere. I could eat there every night. Bare in mind that the food is well seasoned.... I needed rice for the heat!!!! The white aubergine was stunning, complimented the fish well. Only thing I did not like was being told about a minimum charge of £60 per person. Its rude as the prices will get you there in a shot!
It was a great experience food was amazing but the service was great however we came in with me and my dad wearing shorts and my mom long however they denied us entry cuz we were wearing shorts I mean I hate long shorts and pants but I had no choice cuz I don t want to upset my mom so we went all the way home our original booking was at 6 they changed it To 7:30 went all the way home changed and went back but it was very delicious
The food was excellent and the service provided by the whole team was incredible especially from Naitik who was attentive and welcoming. I would highly recommend this restaurant and we look forward to coming back in the near future. Thank you.
Chutney Mary offers both an amazing environment and food. From the very moment you near the building, the door man Salah makes the all the difference; he always welcomes me with kindness and professionalism, as well as a great attitude. I highly recommend experiencing chutney mary for yourself.
First, this is the first restaurant in London to take money from customers before they go the restaurant they take a charge 30 pounds per head even though you confirmed your going , ok you took my money i will see good experience i went I ordered butter chicken their was a hair in the butter chicken manager just said [ I will change your plate] i told him no change the entire dish make a new one didnt say sorry to me. Very disappointing you took 180 before I come and 400 pounds for food and there was a hair in the food
Vegetable samosa and deer samosa are amazing
Food was fantastic, great flavours and generous portion size. Ambience was spot on, as was the service. Very attentive, friendly and knowledgeable staff. We sat in the main restaurant for dinner before having a nightcap in the bar after our meal and the atmosphere in both areas was good.
Too expensive. Have to spend a minimum of £60. If you are by yourself, this task is impossible.
the staff were extremely rude and disrespectful, food is overhyped and unseasoned. plenty of better restaurants in the area.
Beautiful restaurant, good service unfortunately Quantity is very small for the price. Taste wise ill say 6/10 on sampling 5 starters and 5 mains and desserts platter. All I can remember is the scallops and lamb shank.
Great and amazing service. Highly recommend this place. Had dinner the same day X prime minister was in the restaurant.
their food is amazing. their shared plater of starter been a disapointment of it size, rest of it was wow. Their drink are too expansive and limited in choise.
The food is amazing. We asked our server Leslie for recommendations and we were not disappointed. He was the best!! Staff were amazing and atmosphere is awesome.
Phenomenal meal and fantastic service!
Great food and excellent service
DO NOT EAT HERE YOU WILL GET SICK My group of 5 had horrible food poisoning (this is the ONLY meal the 5 of us ate together) after this meal, we went for dinner and I felt uneasy before bed then woke up and vomited all day as did my friends, I didnt drink with dinner. I emailed privately with the Chutney Mary team in hopes of not having to leave this public review, but they were wildly rude and unhelpful. I told the team that this was the only meal we all ate together and that we are all now sick. I asked for a refund on both of our cards. How shameful they call this customer service: As we do not have a diagnosis from a Doctor, results from stool sampling, any other analysis or any information in respect of the incubation time periods, etc., we cannot be certain that the stomach upset was due to the food. Therefore, as you can understand, in the absence of scientific analysis, we consider it highly unlikely that the food eaten at Chutney Mary was responsible for the illness.
Very very bad restaurant and stuff they are very rude
Never again , the manager was EXTREMLY rude . We have made a reservation and when we arrived they refused to give us a table although there were a lot of empty tables and their excuse is that the reservation was declined . We left immediately due to the way he treated us as if we re going to eat for free . And already ppl arrived before us were treated the same way .
.. : : .. .. .. This was our first time visiting the restaurant and we had great expectations. We have made reservations a month ago but when we arrived they said we cancelled it. And we were a big party. So we asked what is available he said we have only for 5 , although the restaurant had plenty of empty tables and when we point at any table they say that area is closed. Not only that, the manger was rude and raising his voice on us and saying the kitchen is closing even before we are seated , when he finally showed us the table it can easily fit 7 and there was a free one next to it. But he simply wanted to complicate things for us. When we were fed up with his behavior and said we are paying money not getting any free service so your attitude should be better than this, he was rude enough to say go out. The whole vibes of the restaurant were bad, you can notice the staff were not comfortable and tensed. They were terrified of the manger, We also heard glasses breaking from the kitchen several times in few minutes. Not only that, when arrived there was a group leaving the restaurant, it turned out later that they were also treated badly by the so called manager. Never ever in my life, i witnessed any thing like this.
The absolute arrogance and incompetence of the staff baffled me. They treated us like we were stupid while trying to change something in a meal for allergy reasons, something the website said was possible for the meal. When we asked for the check since we were not happy, the manager came out and tried to explain things with an extremely passive aggressive approach. When we tried to complain about the arrogance of our waiter, the manager started being extremely rude and even MORE arrogant until I, had to speak up because he was disrespecting my parents. Horrible service, truly.
Special thanks for Sachin restaurant manager
The Staff are extremely racist and refused to give us a table although there were many empty tables. A customer enters and pushes my wife saying off you go out, and the manager stayed quiet about it. I have been going to Chutney Mary every single year for the past 10 years or more, and i am shocked to see this type of racist assaults from the receptionist to the manager to even a customer who pushed my wife and her sister shouting out loud off you go out We called the Police who dealt with the situation very professionally. Never coming back to this restaurant again, and have informed all my family and friends who would also never set a step to them again.
Went for the tasting menu. Lovely food. Good service and great atmosphere . Pricey though and marginal as to whether it was worth it
Fresh and tasty
Great service and very tasty food. Portions could be larger
Excellent food and service, wonderful restaurant @
There is No less than a star. The rudeness of the patron was enough .
Although it is the restaurant is the winner restaurant of the year in London, the manager Mr.James was very Rude with the customers! I didn t like the attitude that he gives us asking to low the voice down although we were very respectful and polite in our table. Food
The behaviour of the staff is 0 out of 5, especially the staff memeber Mr James and another one who was wearing glasses and had a beard. They were extremely disrespectful to us as the customer and they were very harsh on the waiters aswell. Which I found quite unprofesional.
Pricey but great food, great cocktails, great atmosphere, great, decor and great service. Rather pricey but definitely worth it. All of the food was amazing. The cocktails were great too. Will be definitely return again.
Overall (3.5/5, Great ambiance and food, poor service) Was looking forward to visiting this place. We had a dinner last summer and was impressed by the overall luxurious ambiance, however we were left a little baffled by the service( condescending mostly in tone) by the main host. This is something i have been observing in high end Indian dining places, as Indians going to Indian places , I could the stark difference in quality of reception by the staff between Indians and non Indians. The quality of food was good: tried all their recommended vegetarian dishes( Panner starter, dal , curries) Breads were on point as well.
This is honestly one of the best meals I have ever had. It s very expensive but worth every penny. The service was amazing and our server advised us on what to get. I would highly recommend. The butter chicken is a must! We had a prawn curry which was also delicious.
Pretentious dress code. No shorts allowed? Not even a nice pair. In summer? Really? But only applies to men!?
All food is prepared ahead of time. No consideration for allergies or intolerances. Unable to create anything completely fresh, especially given that the menu is tiny and limited. Everything was apparently mild or higher Spiced, even for children. Not accommodating at all. Again very limited of what is available and I myself have eaten better from my local take away. Sizes of meals are incredibly disappointing. Had deserts that we brought and had custom made. They wanted to charge us to give our cakes already paid for. Staff standing around outside end toilets to guide to toilets, yet toilet roll was empty in two of the toilets... Toilets were not impeccably clean as youd expect for paying top dollar. The decor was pleasant and an incredibly pleasant architecture of the building.
The restaurant canceled my reservation two times and when I arrived they didnt tell me
I loved this place. The food of the restaurant is very delicious
The food is somewhat not good and the service is very bad. There is a worker in front of the door of the restaurant who comments on the behavior of the customers and does not respect them. The restaurant is bad and not worth the price, and the restaurant was expensive in price. Just BAD. There is a lobby boy who keeps judging people s outfits treating us like peasants, which I found absolutely disrespectful. Considering the price (300+£) its just a pathetic attempt trying to get a Mechlin star, fortunately though, you don t get it by disrespecting people.
Rude lobby boi. And the food was underwhelming.
Waste of time really. And the person who welcomed us was super arrogant and rude.
The attention paid to dietary requirements was very impressive.
Top Indian food / you pay for the quality but it won t disappoint
The most beautiful luxury Indian style restaurant in London.
Fantastic tasting menu especially the vegetarian option. Stunning restaurant and great service
This was a return visit for me. Sometimes a first experience can t be replicated. But my expectations were exceeded by the attentive service and the food. I had dined a year ago in September 2023 alone at your establishment, and promised to share the experience with my husband on our trip to London this year. He was thrilled. The flavors of our tasting menu were scrumptious. We will return, and I will share our experience with friends who plan to visit London in September.
Outstanding food.
Very verryyyy delicious Indian food !! Actually the best Indian restaurant in London. Vibes were great and fancy. We came 40 minutes early and they let us in which was very nice of them.
Absolutely incredible food, portions a little small Other then that 10 out of 10 Food
Now weve tasted first rate Indian food and loved even more
Outstanding
Day by day the food is improved, and tastes amazing, loves the service and ambiance
We had the pleasure of dining here for my wifes birthday celebration. The food was delicious, and she thoroughly enjoyed the ambience and exceptional service. Overall, it was a delightful and memorable date.
Everything was amazing !!!
We went on a Wednesday evening and truly enjoyed everything from the beginning to the end. The drunken chicken thighs were outstanding as well as the butter chicken. The service and ambience were equally amazing. I would highly recommend Chutney Mary and we will come back again whenever we return to London.
Dinned there several times. Food is very tasty and high quality. Price is on a higher side, but it s worth it. Brought family, friends and clients there. Cocktails are amazing. Service attentive. Recommended dishes Venison Samosas, Butter Chicken Tikka Masala Recommendation for vegetarians
The place is special, the food is very delicious, but the price is high
Really top-notch experience. Its definitely pricy, but the food was superb, the service was great and the space is very nice. Lamb chops, paneer, curries and naan were all very very good.
Went for a Team dinner. Great ambience. Authentic Indian food. Would definitely recommend.
The food is phenomenal in terms of taste. We ordered: Vegetable samosa 10/10 Venison (deer) samosa 8/10 Roasted potatoes with spring onion 9/10 Avocado Salad 7/10 (tastes good but not a salad!) Butter Chicken 9/10 Naan bread 10/10 Lamb Biryani 8/10 My main reason for the rating is that the service is soooooooo slow and the food is super spicy for the average person (nobody asked what level of spicy would we prefer) Portions are very small compared to the the asburd prices listed, even for a fine dining restaurant. Worth a try. Personally will visit again, worth a second chance!
The overall experience was satisfactory, but the final price was unexpectedly high.
Exceptional food, service and atmosphere. Loved it!! So tasty and delicious. Meat fell apart.
By far my favourite Indian restaurant in london , the service is perfect and i have never been let down in anything i order from the menu.
Business lunch. Fantastic service. Really good food. Lamb chops were to die for. The biryani was really well cooked too. Really nice atmosphere and the staff were very attentive. Cannot fault the experience.
We were a party of eight people who went here for dinner. Our hosts highly recommended this restaurant, and they were right. The restaurant looks like an English pub from the outside, but inside, its a very posh and luxurious setting that is perfect for an entertaining night out in central London. The place is quite large, multileveled, and with separate bar- and dining areas. The staff are discreet and polite, and they will cater to your every need. Food: This is high-end, authentic South Indian cuisine, so expect hot spices, chillies, savoury sauces, and many small plates and dishes on the table. All your traditional expected dishes are on the menu, and you should order three or four dishes per person (or share) to have a filling experience. The food is expensive. There are no condiments or sides, so youll be spending more than you normally do on Indian food. But the food is worth it. Its delicious and satisfying. Vegetarian options: Many indian dishes are natively vegetarian, and they have most selections Dietary restrictions: True indian dishes with true indian spices, means HEAT and savoury sauces. Fingerlicking good ;-) Parking: Its central London, so get a taxi Kid-friendliness: Nope. Adults night out Wheelchair accessibility: Nope. Multi-levelled, toilets in the basement
Had a wonderful lunch
Nice place for Indian food A nice place for Indian food
Food very good, but very overpriced. Service at the table is good but bar service lacking.
Particularly nice for the calm romantic ambience. The butter chicken is a must.
Good atmosphere, great starters but main courses are better at dishoom. Everything was way spicier than it should have been and is served traditionally.
Great restaurant with a lovely atmosphere and kind staff. Food is expensive (however it is pall mall!).
Invitation dress code is prohibited
A luxurious and dangerous restaurant, from reception to exit. The staff is very classy and respectable, and a reservation is required ((try your luck without a reservation)) It works many times. The food is delicious, but the quantities are small, enough for one person. If you have a few people, take the order and you will not regret it, but the prices are expensive.
Excellent
One of the best meals we ve had ever!! I m Indian so I eat traditional Indian food often. It was so fun to order some regular dishes that had a twist both in flavor and presentation. Really pretty restaurant with gorgeous presentation. Well worth every $$$ spent. I m tempted to go again before we return to the US. Staff are lovely!
As you can see from my rating can not fault this restaurant Been here on a few special occasions Service is pucker from the moment your greeted at the door from the person stationed at the door From taking your drinks order spot on superb Food is spectacular Atmosphere is divine A special mention to the staff whos mission is to make your dining as special as possible Definitely returning soon
Good ambience to start and staff was very warm in receiving and ensuring we are seated. The service is a bit slow, we had to wait for someone to take order everytime. Cocktails were good, loved the gold fashioned. The best in food was ghosh biryani without a doubt. Meat was so well cooked and spices were perfectly balance, a definite recommendation from our side!!
If you don t like spicy food, order biryanis. Unfortunately most dishes are extremely spicy for me ( what they call it mild ) and they don t make it without spice.
The food was very good. The service was quite lackluster, certainly not what I would expect from the best restaurant in London. We had to ask for water multiple times. The guy who was waiting on us seemed completely uninterested in our experience. Plus, for some reason it was very hot in the restaurant (its late March and probably 50F outside). I was kind of disappointed overall. I almost forgot to add - something I had never seen before, on the menu it actually said each person at the table must spend at least £55. Seemed kind of cheeky.
Overpriced and sugar laced cocktails. I was expecting food to be fascinating but it fell short of my expectations. Biriyani is a litmus test - rice was over cooked and didn t hit the spot in terms of complexity. The moment I walked out I knew I will likely not go back.
Just awesome!
Chianti Mary is one of the Indian restaurants that has been awarded a Michelin Star. Advance reservation required. To be honest, the food is clean, but there are much tastier Indian places. The atmosphere of the restaurant is fantastic and the service is frankly the best possible. Prices: very high
It is considered an excellent restaurant for lovers of Indian spices and pepper The service is excellent and the atmosphere is calm and elegant
This was our second visit to the restaurant. The food, wine and service were again exceptional. And for a high end London restaurant it s good value
Bad restaurant and worst staff. I came with family and immediately got out of their bad treatment
We had such an incredible time. The food was unbelievably good! The service was fantastic and always anticipated our needs. This felt like a very special experience and cannot wait to return. Thank you!
Not cheap, but worth every penny. An exceptional experience!
This s by far the most delicious and unique Indian food you can eat. It s a fine dining restaurant with smaller portions but relatively sufficient for two, we had butter chicken, afghani chicken tikka, and vegetables samosa and they re spectacular! Definitely worth the visit.
Very clean as a restaurant Indian food, excellent gastronomy, expensive, price is not worth it, children under ten are prohibited from entering. Theres better I think
Amazing indian food experience Great host and ambiance Great location Food : 5/5
A standard of Indian gastronomy in London. Refined cuisine, impeccable service in a well-designed setting.
Great place
I hosted a party of 10 in the Pukka Bar and both the food & service were scored 5* by every one of my guests. Particular highlights were the Tokri Chaat, the Butter Chicken and the delightful Dessert Bowl. Also special mention of the Lyme Bay Bacchus wine - excellent - and the highly attentive staff. A worthy alternative to its sister restaurant on Regent Street.
We were part of a private dining group and had the most delicious food and a drinks waiter to keep our glasses filled and everyone happy. One of the very best dining experiences we have had in London
Absolutely horrible service , rude receptionist not friendly and doesn t accommodate or listen when you speak and the manager was even worse Honestly if I didn t already know how good their food is I wouldn t stay an extra minute in this restaurant If you are willing to have good food with horrible treatment go to this place , honestly so sad to see how they changed over the years, customer service is the most important aspect of a restaurant but I guess this restaurant does not understand that
The atmosphere is beautiful, perfect lighting with great ambience. The food was delicious! The starters were my favourite part of the meal. The tokri chaat has so many flavours that work so well with one another and I love how the pomegranate adds to the colour and gives it that extra texture. The crab cakes were perfect with the tamarind sauce that it came with, it was easy to bite into and as fishy as I was expecting. I had the prawn curry, which at first I felt could be more flavourful but to my surprise the more I had the more the flavour enhanced. The coconut and chilli came through. The prawns were perfect, big and juicy as I like and easy to break into with my naan. They really know how to make a good garlic naan. I also got the aloo tuk as a side, as I was craving some potatoes. These were extremely flavourful, could taste that chaat masala. The potatoes were amazingly soft on the inside and it had a nice crunch outside which was satisfying to bite into. Drinks - I opted for the mango lassi. This was my least favourite part of the meal due to the lassi being more on the sour side rather than sweet, however it is not mango season so can only blame the mangoes. I also tried the mango nojito which I prefer as I wanted a sweet drink, it was decorated with pomegranates and mint. I would highly recommended and would love to go back to try more.
A great all rounder. The starters slapped and the mains really hit the spot. Top notch. 5/5.
One if not the best Asian restaurants Ive been to (and they have plenty of rosettes to back that up). The richness and flavours of the food are amazing. The venison samosa (not triangular) was amazing. I followed that with a special lamb curry that just fell off the bone and then melted in the mouth...with a subtle heat. Absolutely magic. Recommend
The restaurant is beautiful and elegant and requires advance reservations from their website. All of the food is delicious (vegetable samosa, meat samosa, meat biryani, butter chicken masala, and crispy shrimp), but the restaurant is expensive, one person is approximately 85 pounds.
Good food. Still water add on charge without notification not great.
Full Review: Available @davidtriesitall on all social medias Chutney Mary London has been featured in the Michelin Guide and has been awarded the AA restaurant of the year award in 2023/24 along with 3 AA Rosettes Award for their culinary excellence. The interiors were stunning. The candlelight spaces with the dark wood and soft leather really creates this intimate luxurious setting especially as the low light bounces around the glasswares. It truly brought the classic luxury feels in. We had the following: Starters Tandoori Artichoke Hearts - £15.50 Baked Venison Samosa - £17 . For Mains Tandoori Lamb Chops - £42 Wild Venison Roghan Josh - £37 Lamb Biryani - £37 Naan - £4.85 . Desserts - Carrot Halwa Souffle with Pistachio Kulfi - £15 Gulab Jamun Tiramisu with Gold Leaf - £12 . The starters were absolutely top notch. The tandoori artichoke hearts were so flavourful. It had a slight tangy taste which was lovely. Couldn t recommend more to try the baked venison samosas. It was so tender and packed with juicy flavour, it was amazing. I would go back just for that alone. . The mains didn t hold back either. The tandoori lamb chops and venison Roghan josh were extremely savoury and delicious especially when paired with the garlic naan and lamb biryani. It definitely took it to the next level. . The desserts were so unique and exotic I loved it all especially their creative take on carrots and Souffle. Also the gold leaf was a nice touch and made what a luxurious night already even more classier. . This is definitely worth it in my books especially for special occasions. Add it to your list for sure! . Location: 73 St James s St, St. James s, London SW1A 1PH Nearest Tube Station: Green Park Station Price - ££££ Requirements - Gluten Free, Vegan options available . All round great experience!
Pre drink at the bar followed by meal in the main restaurant. Pricey but high quality, some of the tables around us were on the noisy side.
Excellent food, although a little expensive. The vibe is fabulous, but it does get rather noisy so conversation can be difficult. BEWARE: you will be charged £30 per person if you have to cancel on the day of your reservation. For this reason I will NEVER return, as cancelling early in the morning of a quiet Monday in January didnt deprive the restaurant of other potential covers for dinner that evening.
They claim on their website that they cater for Jains but when rang in advance to see whats possible/available they do not provide anything that deviates from the menu. Absolutely nothing! False advertising at its blatant!
Really great experience.
I ve been coming to this restaurant for years and it never disappoints. This is not your ordinary Indian restaurant but rather a refined experience in a beautiful decor. Dietary restrictions: They explicitly ask if you have any dietary restrictions and make sure they comply.
Nice
Nice service and great team members. Delicious indian food. If you want to eat indian food then highly recommended
Fantastic food which was well presented, great service, and a beautiful ambience which was set in an environment which had exceptional decor. Good central location too. Would recommend to friends and family.
Loved the food and the service. The restaurant was beautiful and comfortable. Would definitely go again.
Great food and atmosphere. Will definitely come back. Only negative point is that it s not allowed to bring leftover food to go. Such a waste of food.
