Excellent food, lovely people, very atmospheric restaurant and great service - we even got a glass of port for free!

My sister and I had booked months earlier for what we thought would be a lovely evening to commemorate a very special occasion - our Dad s one year anniversary. Very cold and extremely classist service with a poor attitude. On arrival, we met the host, Alice, who rudely asked us our booking name and aggressively pointed to the table behind her, without acknowledging/looking at us. The food was fine, however it arrived before plates/cutlery was provided, and we had to chase staff for most things. Extremely disappointed by the lack of service, will not be recommending to others.

Best wine selection

Loved it! Everything was perfect. Oxtail, salted cod, lamb rump, calf liver, rice pudding. Everything cooked to perfection. I loved the atmosphere and the service was very friendly. I will return and definitely recommend!

Had a wonderful meal here last night. The service was 10/10 - big thank you to Marco who helped us pick a fantastic bottle of wine and really made our evening with his friendly and attentive service. We had the rigatoni, lamb, soup and burrata. Special mention of their home made bread. Also the stout cake was one of the best desserts we have had in a long time! Really great evening, we will definitely return. The ambience and cosiness of this restaurant adds that extra special touch.

We ate in the cellar which has a surprisingly cosy atmosphere. My main was skate with anchovy mayo - tasted like Hellman s rather than something the chef had created. Sorry but disappointing for something I could have made better at home. Service had a distinct edge of froidure for no reason

Went for lunch and was sat downstairs and it was very dark. Tried to change tables and the manager was unnecessarily passive aggressive and said no despite having tables. Beautiful place but def don t sit downstairs for lunch if you don t want to feel like it s suddenly the evening

We booked the private dining room for a special occasion and everything was perfect. We couldn t have asked for more,.The food was fresh, perfectly seasoned and delicious and the staff were super friendly. Also I think the prices are very affordable considering the quality, especially for the wine. Still a true bastion of old Soho but with a modern charm! Thanks for making our evening so special x

Exceptional food (from the olives to the coffee via the pork chop and rice pudding). This isnt my first visit the Edmunds and it wont be the last. Class without the flash.

One of the best lunches I have ever had. The sardines and the dover sole were to die for! I highly recommend this place the service is impeccable too.

Outstanding lunch.

Wanted to love it but left wanting more. The meal was good, not outstanding. The atmosphere jn a central London place like this which is candlelit and intimate should be amazing but it was totally silent downstairs despite it being full. Needed some music to improve the atmosphere because all the action happens upstairs so there s not even background noise of a bar/kitchen. Service was friendly but intermittent. Would definitely give it another go.

Food - fantastic. Fresh ingredients. Seasoned and served perfectly. The cheese selection from Neal s Yard Dairy is spot on. Wine - no complaints, a good collection of European and new world. European collection is better. Service - not right. Inattentive, but then too fast when it should be the pause between courses. Our starters came out and the server was milling around chatting while the wine we had ordered 15 minutes prior still hadn t even been taken off the rack. This would be fine if the place was a shambles but careless talking and not serving paying customers is poor. We had to ask three times for the wine. Atmosphere - ok. Acoustics aren t great on the lower floor if there are loud tables of guests. The candles are a nice touch. Would I return - probably Would I recommend to a friend - maybe, but with disclaimers.

I just wanted to share what an excellent experience we had here last night. I have been aware of this restaurant for years but never got around to it. I must congratulate you on maintaining a restaurant experience that I thought had disappeared in London. Unpretentious, short menu wonderfully cooked with a British/French bias. Very friendly service from super experienced hard working staff who, crucially, know that they are doing. Excellent wine list but best of all, we walked out without feeling we had been financially abused. Where else in Central London can you get £6 - £9 starters and £20 to £25 mains of this quality with a wine list to match. The fact that you have survived almost 40 years in London (without going stale) is proof that you have the right formula. Bravo.

My wife and I hired the upstairs private room for a joint birthday party lunch for 14 people and from the first contact with Alex to book and choose menu and wine to the actual event on the day with our excellent host Eloise we couldn t have asked for a better experience. The day itself was fantastic. The food, wine, ambiance, service were all excellent and superbly coordinated on the day by Eloise and the team. A truly memorable day and the perfect Old Soho venue. Cannot recommend enough!

I m afraid I m unable to comment on the food at Andrew Edmunds because we ended up leaving without dining. Having booked a table for 2 many weeks before, we arrived looking forward to eating there. Although there were 3 available tables for 2 upstairs, we were taken to the lower ground dining room which was stuffy, over warm and completely empty. We asked if we could be seated upstairs but were told that that was not possible. We had by then made our way back upstairs and again asked to be seated in one of the vacant tables. No we were told sternly, they are all reserved and what s wrong with downstairs. But we too had made a reservation many weeks ago. We were then shushed and asked not to disturb the other diners. We unfortunately left, disappointed and hurt having been treated in a somewhat dismissive and uncaring way.

The food is nice and reasonably inexpensive for Soho. I wouldn t rush back in case I was sat in the cold, dark empty basement again though. The waiter was very rude and made quite a big deal after I discreetly and politely asked to move upstairs, where there was still some empty tables. He told me to make my own atmosphere and kept referring to my request to move in front of my guests. It s a mid range bistro right down to the style of food, paper napkins and the churlish maitre d. The waitress is pleasant and polite.

This restaurant was such a lovely experience! With its small and cosy nature, we were immediately welcomed into the restaurant by the kind staff and had a lovely evening! Not only was the atmosphere phenomenal, but the food was exquisite! It was hard to even choose where to start!

The worst meal I have had in a long time. Food was bland and over priced. The black rice dish we ordered was just a bowl of oily lentils with some chunks of beetroot. The greens were a bowl of cold, over-salted cabbage. Would not go back.

I have been looking forward to taking my Mum here for months, I had saved up to have a really special evening but from the start I was disappointed We were rudely greeted by Alice with come in and then do you have a reservation after it was very clearly stated on the door, only reservations were welcome! After a few minutes we were asked do you know what you want in a very impolite manner. All of this set the president for a very fine evening not. We were sat near the bar and the hosts did not act professionally or make their frustrations unclear. At one point Alice huffed very loudly, this was one way amongst others that she made it very clear she did not want to be there or host us that evening or anyone else in the restaurant for that matter. It seemed we were there as a massive inconvenience. This was all a huge shame as the food was absolutely delicious and everything we could have wanted. The man who delivered our food was so polite and smiley, great hospitality something Alice and her colleague need a lesson in, or 10. To me, it seems this restaurant is in need of a new front of house team or its reputation will burn to the ground Dear Andrew Edmund s chef team, thank you, your food is delicious however, your FOH team is frankly rude and let you down.

This is one of my favourite places in London and I normally recommend it to my friends and people I know are big foodies. This restaurant has been a staple of my London life since 1992, the year I moved to Uk, and it has always been consistent, faultless, and just perfect. The ambience is still good, the food is still good, the lack of attention to detail and the rushed, careless service from our waiter ( a short, bald guy that was probably rushed off or simply too busy to cope with guests asking for guidance on wines, or desserts, leaving us meanwhile we were talking to him, mid-sentence), is simply unbelievable. If you are busy, I understand, but leaving us meanwhile we are deciding, or asking your opinion, is not ok, no matter how you want to look at it. It happened twice, when I was asking for advise on the wine, and then again when we were trying to order the desserts. I am ok with waiting, I am ok with receiving the starters before the wine we ordered, I am ok with leaving the langoustine shelves on the table for a long time and getting the wine at the wrong temperature, and not clearing a small table, not replacing the dirty plates and cutlery, and not bringing the new cutlery, but it is not ok to tell us in an angry way to move a very small iPhone so he could put the new food on the table without having cleared the dirty plates and cutlery which were there for a long time first. This was also a birthday dinner for my best friend, and this was specified in the reservation. Of course it was ignored and nothing was mentioned or even acknowledged during our dinner. Again, I am astonished by how badly things have gone in one of my favourite places on the service side. We ordered the smoked mackerel and the langoustines to start with, the pork chop with fennel and the hake with anchoiade, plus a very good Chassagne Montrachet, and a brownie with blackcurrant and creme fraiche, together with a meringue with pear and chocolate sauce . I am very sad to say I am not rushing to go back . Which is a shame, as I was very fond of this restaurant.

Was slightly worried seeing some previous reviews and the photos, however our food was wonderful. Shared the lamb and the pork chop, they were delicious. They were accompanied by courgettes and cauliflower which usually aren t my favourite, but the chef made them delicious.

We have been going to this restaurant for a number of years and the quality of food, choice of wine, service and atmosphere always meets/exceeds our expectations. The langostines were the best I have had in any restaurant. Would highly recommend inless you are looking for a Sunday roast and wanting to drink liquor!

Was really disappointed. The food was bland and forgettable, very buttery without the seasoning to match, however the service was good and the wait staff very pleasant. The absolute lowpoint was the cheesecake. It was overcooked and grainy, almost scrambled egg consistency on the inside. One of the more expensive meals ive had and one of the most disappointing.

A delightful and cosy little restaurant in the heart of Soho that evokes an older and more bohemian London. The menu and wine list are top class as is the service. My venison was an excellent dish for a cold London day!

I have been here a few times, but the last time before tonight was many years ago. Well, it is still as great as I remember it. The food is spectacular and the staff is just GREAT. I was being slow in deciding my main but the staff accommodated my request to switch the vegetables in the main with different vegetables from another main, without making me feel an annoyance or embarrassed, which I really appreciated it. They also have an incredible, long, superb list of French wines. We had a fantastic Pomerol and I was able to finally taste a Muscat de Baumes de Venise at the end of my meal. FANTASTIC PLACE

V special dinner in the private dining room upstairs for a dear friends birthday. V intimate. Felt like old Soho. Sophisticated menu and service. Didnt see the prices as we were guests!

My only complaint is that our starters and main were so satisfying and delicious that we sadly didnt have room for pudding.

The menu is very small and the day I went, 3 out of 6 entrees were seafood. No roasts or any of the traditional British fare I expected. I had a rigatoni with ragu which was extremely mediocre. My wife had a pork chop which was good but not amazing. I was also not aware they had a very small store of liquors and unfortunately, I dont drink wine. The atmosphere is nice but depending on where you sit, the candlelit dining room may be too dark for you to read the menu. Id try it the next time in in London as the menu does change daily... but I am unimpressed

It was a really nice place and we went for Valentines Day. I saw on the website they had a Valentines Day menu as well as the usual a la carte menu. We did not want the Valentines Day menu but when we got there and sat down they told us that on that day there would not be the a la carte option. This was not stated anywhere during the booking process and ended up having to spend a lot more money than we wanted which felt wrong. Just a heads up to the restaurant please make this clear before confirming a booking.

One of my favorite spots in London, phenomenal food. Service and atmosphere is special and I always make sure I can stop in for lunch and dinner when in town. Make sure you save room for dessert.

I recently visited this restaurant for a date night, and was taken aback by an incident involving the restaurant owner. A customer had voiced a legitimate concern about an unpleasant odor in the restaurant and issues with the service. In response, the owner confrontationally told the customer, You are not our people and you should never come back again. This encounter was quite off-putting and unprofessional. As a result, we have decided not to return to this establishment.

Lemon sole was simply awful.

Great service, asked advice on a bottle of wine and really enjoyed the bottle recommended to us. The food was all rich in flavour and large portions. The only let down for us was we had an early booking so the restaurant was not full and they dont play any music so the atmosphere was abit lacking. Otherwise cant fault it.

I ve been walking past this restaurant for years and thinking how lovely it looks and I m SO pleased I ve finally visited. The menu is amazing the pork I had was so tender and delicious, all the sides were perfectly cooked and seasoned, the wine list was great too. Such a nice setting with the candle lit tables and the service was excellent too. Really highly recommend and I can t wait to come again and try a different menu!

A truly special place with an exceptional wine list, decent food, and an important history. Yes, its cramped and unpolished in some respects, but this is a bastion of a largely lost, independent Soho.

Very nice traditional restaurant with good food. Couldnt give it five stars as the service could have been a bit speedier and more polite.

Absolute worst service and the food is not very impressive either. The expensive meat came out cold, we asked to have it heated up. The waiter did not care, took the plate without a word and returned three minutes later. Obviously not enough time to heat it. No apologies. Never returned to ask if we were happy with our meal. The meat was grey, cold and anything but tender. The fish not good. The bill still included the optional service charge of £15...never returning here. Stay away.

Joli endroit, discret, aux tables étroites et un peu serrées. La carte des vins est incroyable, la carte un peu moins. La langue de b uf est à tester, le rissoto de riz noir à éviter. Éclairés à la bougie, gentiment accueillis et servis, nous avons passé un moment très agréable. Le lieu est plutôt fréquenté par des londoniens... cest un signe.

Food: nearly perfect execution, although some dishes were bland and needed more seasoning. Polenta especially. Service: staff presence seemed limited and preoccupied. Atmosphere: romantic in the basement and more lively on main floor. Try the pork chop and explore the wine menu! Avoid the polenta.

High quality, tasty food for great prices. I think this has to be one of the best restaurants in London for the quality to price ratio if youre looking for a nice place to eat on a date. We had two starters: the squid and the duck. Both were paired nicely wine by our water. They were fresh tasting with the crunchy veggies complimenting the textures of the meat. For mains, we took a fish and a meat dish - both delicious. For dessert, we had the cheesecake. It was pretty good, but I think you can find a better Basque cheesecake elsewhere.

Step away from the sin & sleaze of Soho & into Andrew Edmunds and you ll immediately find the comfort of a rustic interior with wood panelling, creeky furniture and patrons lustfully crammed next to each. There s a quiet buzz as friendly veteran waiters expertly manoeuvre the narrow gaps in flickering candle light bringing trays of food to first date nervous couples or some looking for more clandestine encounters The food revolves around traditional British hearty dishes think Guinea fowl, Lamb rump, shredded duck confit, pot roasted rabbit all of which are served rather generously without any pretentious presentation. The wine list s low markup and some wonderful finds (Chassagne Montrachet Michel Niellon around gbp 70) makes up for the generic glasses and after the first bottle, you ll tend to be less uptight about these sort of things At the end of the day, it s just good old-fashioned food in mischievous romantic settings

What it is not: fine dining. Glasses are of low quality and presentation is meh. What it excels at: cosy, intimate, value dining experience. Great portion of well-seasoned, professionally cooked food; consumer-friendly mark-up w/ some old vintages you cannot easily buy on the market; and warm, unpretentious service you find in your neighborhood pub. This restaurant revived my faith in restaurants in London having seen a decline in food quality and service in some of my favorite restaurants over the past few years. I was first attracted to their comprehensive wine list. Good selection from around the world at very good prices. A selection of magnums too for larger groups. I went for late lunch on a week day with a friend. Great atmosphere, good service and excellent food. We both had the pork chop as the main. it was delicious! we chose some high end wines but I still feel it was great value for money in central london

Faultless! Vegetarian options: the semolina gnocchi comes as a generous portion of delicates crunchy on the outside blocks of gnocchi (imagine a large crouton size) sat on a colourful base of saffron courgettes & chickpeas finely made into a paste, very well balanced flavours & the touch of the romesco sauce provides the colour contrast as well as the nutty definition, delicious & light for an evening meal of exciting appearance. It goes well with a spot of manzanilla wine Thank you to the restaurant staff for the treat

This was a terrible experience. The lamb was over cooked and the manager was very rude to me when I returned it. I hate returning food, but this food was burnt, and I hated getting disrespected for it. The manager showed open disrespect and disdain for me as a customer.

We came here on a recommendation. We had a good cocktail and appetizer, but our main course was quite overcooked. Additionally the manager was rude and condescending to us when we brought this to their attention. We ended up leaving after drinks and apps without replacing our entree. Our waiter was kind, but the manager was nasty for whatever reason. I would not recommend this place.

Enjoyed my meal but the cod could have done with a zing of flavour, a lemon slice maybe. The dish was a bit bland for my liking, though the griddled courgettes added a great pop of flavour but there weren t too many with the dish. Service was ok, nothing to write home about. Some people have called this the best restaurant in london! I def would not agree, a nice spot but expensive for what it is.

The beauty of Andrew Edmunds restaurant is that you never quite know what is on the menu that day - something of a double edged sword though for some. I have been three times recently and loved everything that was served to me though some of our party were less enthusiastic. The menu, whilst quite short, I have found it to be eclectic, unusual, pleasantly surprising and all perfectly cooked. I have tried things there that I have seen nowhere else (fantastic!) I would give it 5 stars but deduct half a star only for my guests, some of whom struggled to find something that suited them (on that particular day anyway). The service is as good as anything I have experienced in London, friendly, helpful and always delivered with a big smile; I would happily give it 6 stars if allowed to. The wine list is not huge but varied and totally complimentary and compatible with the dishes of the day. It is also extremely pocket friendly. In short? I love it. My default in the West End. Cant wait to go again (in a week or two).

We ate upstairs in The Academy Club (guests of a member) The food was absolutely fantastic. I had one of the very best chicken dishes Ive ever eaten, wine was superb as were the cocktails. Ive fallen in love with this place. Recommended dishes Cheesecake, Malbec

Love this place, a proper Soho institution. Good food and one of the best - and most reasonably priced wine lists in London !

Bottom Line: Perfect for an intimate, yet casual date without breaking the bank. Highs: Intimate setting, coupled with excellent service, made my visit to Andrew Edmunds a wonderful experience. The menu was handwritten, and our waiter was helpful in pairing our choices with the appropriate wine. Their bass special was simple yet divine. The space itself was quiet, candle lit, and homey. It was a welcoming atmosphere, not intense or over the top. Lows: None; I only wish I had room for more dishes!

Delicious lunch and excellent service

Fantastic food along with great service. I did find the tables crammed & seats uncomfortable. I appreciate its part of the character but I do like to be comfortable.

Proposed to my Mrs there 8 years ago and yesterday we had our anniversary at the same place. Amazing service and food as usual. Keep it up guys. Food : 5/5

Some of our dishes were excellent...melon, burrata, tongue, Sourdough bread. Some were just good...pork. sole. Service was very good. We ate in.the downstairs dining room and it was noisy, I think some cushions or soft furnishings to absorb the conversations a bit would help.

Tiny Soho bistro style restaurant. The food here is really excellent -high end eating. We had three courses each with wine, and it came to around £80 each. Hence I feel the prices are surprisingly modest, considering the high standard on offer. Wines were very diverse in price, ranging from around £35 to £750 a bottle. The service is great, just the right balance of attention without excessive focus. If I had a criticism it would be the table packing, which is very tight indeed, but our fellow diners were pleasant and restrained, luckily!

Soho at its chilled out best. Went for an anniversary dinner and it reminded us of how Soho used to be about 20 years ago. Very relaxed with absolutely top notch food. Service was knowledgeable and friendly. The melon soup with nduja was a highlight as was the calves liver. Amounted to a lovely evening out.

Sitting in the basement is definitely underwhelming and dreary. Food was soso, very traditional British. Not wowed overall

Great food and service definitely worth a visit

Its been quite a while since Ive been here. But it was like seeing an old friend. So warm and welcoming, wonderful staff and as ever amazing food...

Intimate and informal place. Excellent food and very friendly staff ready to advise and listen to your needs. The entrance to the restaurant blends in with the facade of the building and the entrance is between the two main doors of the building. Once inside you discover a beautiful location. If you want to eat after 6.30pm, reservations are recommended. Worth coming back for an appointment, a business dinner or a dinner with friends.

We had the most lovely evening at Andrew Edmunds. They have seasonal produce. The food was delicious, the ambiance romantic and the service very friendly. We could see why its so popular!

Relaxed, high quality dining at its best. I went with three friends and we had the best time chatting for England while dining on delights such as crab and fennel salad, stout cake and hake with borlotti beans. The menu was excellent and none of us could fault the food and wine we chose. Service was smooth, professional and non-intrusive, the ambience was chilled yet chic. I will be back! Vegetarian options: Several veggie choices available.

We have a tradition going back 14 years of going here on our anniversary - it is such a wonderful place: lovely atmosphere, the staff are fab, the food is excellent and we always have good wine. Definitely worth a visit!

Super little restaurant. Very nice setting. Friendly service. Staff are great. Food is exceptional. Well presented. Lovely menu. Every mouthful was bursting with flavour., colour and vibrancy. Well presented. A real must when in Soho. Heartily recommended.

Andrew Edmunds is unique.

I ve been there a few times and it has always been amazing. The place is so beautiful and romantic. The food is absolutely delicious. I love their wine selection, from a very low to a very high price point, there is choice for everyone.

Such a gem. Great and affordable wine. Menu changes regularly. Cozy enough for date night but also good atmosphere for friends and business get togethers.

So good. The bread is divine. Mackerel spot on. Every detail shows precision of the preparation and choice of product. Highly recommended.

Fabulous

Andrew Edmunds is a small and very authentic restaurant serving a mix of European/English dishes. It looks like they only take guests with reservations - so make sure to reserve a table. The atmosphere and service are great. Very friendly staff and nice candle light atmosphere. The food is good, but not exceptional. The sole was fresh and well-prepared, but was missing a bit of taste.

Absolutely delightful experience here. The food is heartwarming and savory, the staff are fun and playful, the wine list is long and the vibe is softly full of character and characters. Can t say enough how nice and refreshing a place this is. Can t wait to come back soon.

Food was good and value was good. I had a frosty welcome from a short Italian guy which wasnt a great start. The serving plates, cups etc are basic but the food is good. Service was ok the lady there last night was very warm and friendly. Avoid the tea and coffee super basic and waste of money but it was a pleasant lunch. Overall I wouldnt go back. This was how much I paid and I dont drink.

Great restaurant superb food

Old school soho restaurant perfect for dates. It was ha great atmosphere and vibe to it and the service is impeccable. Wine is great but I must say food was slightly disappointing. Starters and bread were delicious but our main dishes were slightly cold. However it might have been the case of ordering the wrong thing. I will for sure come back.

Wonderful late Friday Christmas lunch. Waiter worked our table out brilliantly and managed to put us in our place whilst being utterly charming. Actress took over and had the same wonderful, easy-going humour that is almost impossible to find. Food was great but it was the staff that made the afternoon. The best Hospitality in a restaurant I have experienced for some time. What a treat. Charlie
