Service was 7.5/10 Food was 5/10 I would recommend coming here to drink, this place is really nice the decor is nice , the seating is nice. But the food is not very worth it I would recommend they add seasonings.

Made a reservation and when I arrived at the restaurant I said my name and a young waiter (with an attitude wearing jeans and t-shirt) gave us a table in middle of the place exactly behind the door. Its December so super cold. I saw on the corner there were available tables for 2 people having the sign reserved and while I explained to him that I am pregnant and I would prefer the corner/not next to the door tables he replied they are reserved. Sherlock I made a reservation as well, whats the difference? Waiter who served us was older and really kind and attentive. Door was open all the time and it was freezing. Food was ok but after such a treatment you dont really appreciate it! We were listening the conversations of the people sitting almost same table and when I had enough and I had to wear my jacket cause I was so cold I asked him to close the door and he didnt even look at me but said people are coming in! Same time 2 ladies without reservation came in and they gave them the corner table! Such a rude person without any understanding or help despite the fact that I am pregnant! He just destroyed the whole experience.

Love Balans in Stratford London. Easy accessed on the outer part of Westfields. The restaurant is decorated nicely with nice lighting and comfortable seats. The food is excellent, and the service is attentive. Good value for money

Love the atmosphere, restaurant had a lot of characteristics. Even the sauces were in cool packaging :) We were served by Uvis, he was very welcoming when he sat us down and his service overall was just impecable.

Absolutely amazing service- Uvis and Sofi particularly stood out

This is the top of the most disgusting and unpalatable Eggs Benedict I have tried in London. The egg does not leak, just one thin transparent piece of fish on two dry buns. No basil, no rocket, absolutely nothing. Just two boiled eggs with a pathetic piece of fish on a hard bun. Pancakes bought from Tesco, not made here. The quesadilla was delicious. The waiters were very nice people, the service was good.

Food came out cold. Waiting staff were very apologetic, however manager did not seem to care. New food came out which was warmer, however not hot as you would expect. Money was knocked of the bill, which is good, however overall as an experience I did not enjoy it. I would not come back, which is a shame as I used to like coming in often, portion sizes are smaller, eggs coming out raw, and cold, prices have gone up. I would say it has gone down hill.

as Australian tourists we had food here with our English friends ,I ordered a chicken salad, which was simply inedible!The chicken was so dry,the salad looked wilted,and I found that our local cafes in Adelaide makes more moist and delicious fresh chicken salad than this one, and much cheaper too! I had to ask for more dressing to moisten the salad before being able to eat it!,

Went there for breakfast (full English) on Friday 23rd. Good portion size and great quality - cooked very well. My mates had the eggs benedict and were also impressed. It was reasonably priced for the quality, location and setting. Would recommend a visit if looking for a good feed for breakfast.

Everything was fine. To be expected. However one pretty bad thing: we ordered pancakes with berries (£13.50). They arrived: a stack of 4 pancakes. With a little syrup, and just 4 berries. 1 blackberry, 2 blueberries, 1 raspberry and half a strawberry. Each one sliced up to disguise how few there were. It was pretty pathetic. I immediately asked for more berries. They came in a ramekin, and the amount was now appropriate. However we were charged £4.50 for these berries! So £18. Its obvious that they purposefully put such a small amount of berries on the dish in order to trick people into ordering more berries, and then getting charged. We are lucky we didnt order more syrup too.

I ve become almost a regular here because the food is good and consistent. It s a busy little place with a good menu and nice wine. The burger and fries is as a burger and fries should be. A good pattie and nice fries. I had a glass of vinho verde which was excellent. Always a nice atmosphere and great service. Well priced as well.

Superb. Good food, good drinks, good friends and Uber friendly staff. What more can you ask for. And after all these years its still as good as ever

What an amazing place for both breakfast and lunch (dessert included )! I ordered the Thai red curry with shrimp and egg noodles, but you could also choose the option with chicken or vegetarian or with rice. Next, after a slightly spicy meal, I ordered their lemon tart on the recommendation of the wonderful waiter, so I didnt expect that the lemon tart would also include fresh grapefruit, orange and delicious sorbet! Both dishes 10/10, a really pleasant surprise in the middle of such a busy place like Westfield . Thank you.

We ordered pots of tea as well as brunch. The food was fine but when the waiter brought our tea, he spilt the milk over me and my bags. He was very apologetic and wiped up everything quickly but I was left with damp patches of milk on my jeans and with my skin, bags and jeans smelling of milk which was horrible when dry. After that incident, we had our food and got another apology or two from him. He was really good and helpful, but I was really amazed when we got our bill to find they hadn t taken even a penny off it. No one even enquired if any of the new clothes I had bought had been damaged in any way. With service and especially management like that, I certainly won t be going back there or indeed any other branches of Balans.

Awful food!!!! The pancakes with fried chicken were so dry, the bedendict eggs overcooked and englidh muffin was burnt. Eoukd never visit and never recommend this place.

Title: Terrible Experience with Unsafe Food I recently eat here and unfortunately, my experience was extremely disappointing. I was served food that appeared and tasted off, and shortly after eating, I developed severe food poisoning symptoms. The dish I ordered had a strange odor, and the flavor was far from what I expected. It seemed like the ingredients were not fresh, and the presentation was unappetizing. Despite voicing my concerns to the staff, they were dismissive and did not offer any compensation or solution. To make matters worse, within a few hours, I fell ill with intense stomach cramps and nausea, which I can only attribute to the meal I had at the restaurant.

Ive been here at BALANS several times. It is very conveniently located in the shopping center, is not too expensive and you can sit a little open in front of the shops. The food and drinks were always perfect, the staff very attentive and friendly. I will definitely come again.

I loved my Eggs Royale, the hollandaise sauce was really well done, however the eggs were a bit overcooked on both plates. We were sat outside and there was no staff around to communicate this, so we just ate it as it was and it still tasted good. Food is good but maybe it is a bit overpriced for the quality of the service.

I ordered the vegan burger and truffle chicken. Before the food was served, my 2 years old girl found a tiny spider on the table. And then food served like this. I was shocked. a waste of 40 pounds.

Tried to have lunch on a Saturday around 2pm, the place was almost empty, after nearly 30min waiting at the table, no one came to take the order, staff members were too busy chatting to serve the customers. We stood up and left.

Had to wait 40 minutes for food after ordering. Although the food was ok, the wait was unacceptable. Avoid unless youre really not in a hurry. Or hungry.

I agree with the previous reviewer who said don t pick the Korean vegan burger. The bun is dry, there s no bulgogi sauce to be found, the soy burger is the worst I ve ever come across and how weird to put a (bad) onion tempura inside a burger. The price (£19+service) is outrageous ! The chips and the lettuce leaves were both good though! Vegetarian options: I don t think the chef likes vegetarians.

Neat, tidy, good service and good food - would recommend for a reliable dining experience. Came here for a late weeknight dinner date so understandably a bit quieter than usual. Overall food was great. Mains will set you back about £20 and a bottle of red £25. Service was quick and easy.

The food is quite expensive; a full English breakfast costs £17 and its not cost-effective. The food in picture cost me £13, not including the service fee. The environment is nice, but the service is slow to respond.

Neutral review. Incredibly limited menu choices if you have a tree nut allergy. Not because they have them in all the food, but I was told it s just a precaution because everything is fried in the same oil & there s risk of cross contamination. I felt like this was lazy & limited so many food options that I wanted to try! Plus it s really easy to resolve (use more than one fryer, it really doesn t seem too hygienic anyway to cook everything in the same oil). I ended up having a sweet dish rather than any of the savoury ones I would ve preferred. The French toast was very nice, the flavours were subtle & not too overpowering, but it was incredibly sweet (but my preference is savoury foods). Anyone with a sweet tooth would probably give it 5/5 without hesitation. The service was decent and one of the guys was absolutely lovely and made a bit more of an effort to talk to us. Overall, just marked down because I didn t get to eat any of my top choices of food, but what I did eat was good. Dietary restrictions: As pointed out in my main review, I felt like I was limited by risk of cross contamination from them using the same oil to fry everything. This limited the menu for me quite a lot & removed all my top choices for the food I wanted to have. They did offer to serve meals without potential contaminants, but they just happened to be the parts of the meal I wanted to eat. I was told the fried chicken could be substituted with grilled chicken, but I ve never heard of grilled chicken & waffles.

The food was ok but not amazing. We had pancakes and the duck breakfast pancake (the pickled sushi ginger on top combination did not work). Service was decent, but what really let it down was the sticky tables. Other tables on either side of us also had the same problem, and we all asked to have them cleaned, but after a server wiped them, they were still sticky. They really need to do something about the tables, I know they were clean, but eating on a sticky/tacky table is not a pleasant experience.

The ambience of the restaurant is very pretty and its mellow, and the staff were lovely, bringing the food really quickly. But the food/drink itself were very disappointing. We ordered an earl grey tea, tropical smoothie, eggs Florentine and cheese omelette. We also asked for chorizo (add-on @ £4.50) to be included inside the omelette. Literally none of it tasted good. The tea was unlike any other earl grey Ive had (not in a nice way) - it was weirdly herby and bitter. The smoothie tasted like it had half a cup of sugar emptied into it, it was way too disgusting The omelette was standard, not great, not terrible - but the chorizo was served separately for some reason. The eggs Florentine were the worst - the muffin tasted stale, and the hollandaise sauce was weirdly acidic. Would not recommend the food or drink. But if youd like to chill somewhere pretty with a water/something hard to mess up - this is a good place.

Havent visited for years so was sceptical on how things were going to be Juice and brunch were very good and service was very friendly. Only disappointment the coffee despite the top notch coffee machine and grinder. Will definitely come back though.

Nice enough but a bit of a rip off. Balans is one of few places that continues to add a surcharge for non-dairy milk on an already overpriced coffee (and its not mentioned on the menu). Also, they charge £4.50 for a tiny bowl of leaves, which was all of two mouthfuls. The vegan pancakes were nice, but for the price, we wont go back in a hurry. Vegetarian options: A few vegan options, both savoury and sweet; however, they charge extra if you want non-dairy milk in coffee/tea.

Stsying locally after 4 long days of work i really fancied a nice quiet sit down meal, unfortunately westham are playing tonight so the area is mega busy, but my colleague and i found this place by chance. What an amazing find!!. Absolutely gorgeous burger cooked perfectly with a good size portion of crispy well seasoned French fries. I hamza side order of halloumi which was grilled perfectly with a lovely crunch and bursting with flavour

Ordered the rump steak for lunch as part of a team lunch but really disappointed with it. I know that rump can be chewy but this was pretty tough and cant even compare to the rump steaks I get from Sainsburys!! Should have ordered the roasted chicken or the fried chicken as my colleagues said they were tasty!

The place is beautiful! And the staff was nice. The pancakes are really delicious!! The benedict eggs with lobster was just ok, the sauce was not as flavorful. Maybe just not the place to order lobster but its a great idea. you gotta try

Came in for a late breakfast and we specifically craved eggs Benedict. Luckily Balans served it and it was delicious! Staff were incredibly friendly and the vibe was lovely. Tables were clean and volume not too loud or too quiet. Loved it and would gladly return!

To be scrupulously fair, we went at 2 on a weekday, so v quiet after lunch. My friends birthday so they put a wee candle in her dessert- sweet. The honey truffle fried chicken fillets are always a go to, along with the prancing. Easy on the cards to leave room for dessert. My only quibble is that I do feel drinks Inc warm hv too high a mark-up. The lads who serve are really pleasant, respectful & helpful. And my friend liked her birthday candle n song - the most important thing!

Hubby and I were pleased to find a place with a nice ambience and breakfast menu that met our dietary requirements (him being a hardcore carnivore and me being plant-based). We wanted to have an early Valentines breakfast due to him going away. He had a full English while I had a stack of American style vegan pancakes with berries and a berry compote. We were both happy with the portions and the food was enjoyable. I think it was good value for the money. The service could have been a little more attentive. It wasnt particularly busy so I think staff could have been a tad more observant for example when we were ready to order. Otherwise, we had a good experience dining there and I would definitely go again.

I was looking for an American Breakfast and Balans was highly recommended. I had low expectations but I was very impressed. I would certainly recommend.

REALLY RUDE STAFF!!!! We went inside no one even cared to seat us or welcome us. We sat down at a table and one of them was really rude told us we cant seat down on our own. THERE WAS NO SIGN OF WAITING TO BE SEATED We left!!!!!

We had really excellent service from Sorin. We were in a rush before going to see a film and Sorin was so helpful taking our order straight away and ensuring we had plenty of time to eat before we had to leave. Balans at 34 Old Compton Street is always a great place for quick and very tasty reasonably priced food, with fantastic friendly helpful service.

Fancying a cheeky all-day breakfast to kick-start the New Year, my partner and I visited Balans for the first time today. While the quality of the food (e.g. taste and presentation) were good overall, the service (e.g. time to be served and receive our food order) was hugely unacceptable for any establishment - especially, one located in a popular hot-spot such as Stratford Westfield. Unfortunately, we were left to wait 20 minutes until simply being asked what we would like to drink, and a further 10 minutes until our food order was taken (all the while, staff attended to other tables, or walked around seemingly aimless and avoidant). An additional 17 minutes later, we finally received our order in full, and were able to enjoy what was actually a nice meal, which included the Full English and a side of Two Pancakes and Berries. I hope that staff will consider the above feedback as a means to further improve their overall services - with this only, I would happily recommend Balans.

Food was incredibly plain and very expensive. So tasteless I wondered if I had Covid. We ordered the Greek plates - one of the blandest lunches we ve ever had. Coffees and teas were also 4.50 and £4 respectively which I think is pretty extortionate.

Balans Stratford delivered an exceptional experience. The English Breakfast, the Thursday Sparkling offer (2 bottles of champagne at 50% off), and the pancake with banana and chocolate syrup were all delightful. We nearly didnt stay as they were full inside, and it was a chilly morning, but the heated seating area outside turned out to be lovely and cosy. Service was fast and super friendly. The food was hot and delicious. I had the full English breakfast, perfectly cooked, great sausages, and bacon. Fresh eggs and lovely sourdough bread. Will definitely return and would highly recommend it.

We had the breakfast Burrito and the mushroom omelette that came with roast potatoes, both very tasty. Happy with the portion size as it was quite big. Although its a bit pricey you definitely get what you pay for.

Both my mum and I popped in here on the off chance for lunch - the menu looked great so we came in and were quickly seated at a table. All the staff were friendly, hospitable and attentive, especially Mihai who was great and a pleasure to have serve our table today. Highly recommend for both service and food. I love Balans in Soho, so we booked this as we were over in Stratford for an event. Brought a party of 6. Big mistake. West Ham were playing at home and unfortunately Balans didnt seem equipped with a strategy in place for huge numbers of walk-ins and serving those already there. With all the best will of the poor staff, the service was not good, queuing was allowed out of the door so the atmosphere was terrible and the restaurant freezing cold, the drinks and food (when they eventually came) were cold and quite a lot of it not edible (solid poached and scrambled eggs). I obviously picked the wrong day, but I think if they cant cope with that different type of demand they perhaps need to consider how to handle match days. Sadly awful.

Went for a birthday celebration meal, the place was almost empty, we went around 7 until closing, the food was ok but not great, they had no fish or prawn which limited the already limited menu options and the waiter kept hassling us to clear the table like they wanted us to go but that didnt stop us from having a lovely evening but that was because we were celebrating a birthday and enjoying being together nothing to do with the place or the food. And the eye watering bill at the end was taking the piss if Im honest. Unfortunately no photos were taken

I warn you, it is not cheap, but the food is worth it. You will be satisfied with what you will see on the plate - both the quantity and the appearance. I really liked the design of the restaurant itself. The service is good. It is very fun to stop by with a friend not only for lunch, but also for a glass of wine. I recommend it.

Love the food but the service needs improvement

I went here with my dad after seeing it online. I ll be honest it was a little disappointing in person. The cups weren t clean and the food was underwhelming considering the price of it.

OMG, if I could, I would stay here and eat their food all day. My waiter, Ionut Cermau is amazing, he makes me laugh every time I visit. Such a sweet guy. Balans is Westfield Stratfords best-kept secret. You must visit to see for yourself.

I shared honest feedback with management and got back a very generic response which looked copy pasted - as the text with my name was different to the generic cover email. The food seemed bitter and undercooked. I was concerned about its quality. Management didnt seem too bothered - nor to care. It seems they are in a rush to get people in and out and dont care about the quality of the meals they are serving. Im disappointed that the restaurant ignored my follow up email, when I told them I was concerned about the food quality issues. They should take food quality and safety more seriously.

Staff really friendly, accommodating and great coffee, however food quality was not great! My eggs royale was luke warm! The Greek dish was the worst and looked like all the little bits had come from Tesco. It didn t help that it was so busy and the door was constantly open making it freezing and unpleasant.

Recommended by our son. Lovely breakfast after a late night in London. Good portion size, although some sauce for the potatoes would ve been lovely! Service was extremely polite and efficient. Not too pricey either considering they re in Westfield.

We had a great experience here. The food (and coffee) were fantastic, but best of all, our server Ovi was really friendly and went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect for us. We re planning to come back again very soon!

Really rude service, disgusted that they charged a service charge for that. Food was below average and would not return. Came 3 weeks ago, emailed management with no reply since.

Great food and service. All day brunch type menu. Whats not to love. Very nice bottle of Rioja too and desserts to die for!

This place is okay, but the food is highly overpriced for what is served. Portion size is also very average. Quality of food is very average. Definitely not the price.

I ordered the chicken and pancakes, all looked fine until I cut into it and the chicken was pink raw. The waiter also noticed and said he will bring me a new one which I obviously declined as they dont know how to cook chicken so I ordered a beef burger instead which wasnt great tbh. No discount or anything offered for serving me up raw food, its actually disgraceful. I wont be going back and have warned all friends and family to avoid the place.
