Interesting restaurant with some nice dishes but left feeling it was missing the X factor. Perhaps i don’t appreciate fine British cuisine as much. I had the smoked eel sandwich which they are seemingly well known for. It was very tasty and quite unique. For main I had the hake which was very good too. Perhaps the service impacted our experience as we waited a long time to order and to receive food. We also felt the service was quite basic and not worth the 13% service charge they add. We paid 152£ for two courses each and a cheap bottle of wine which felt quite expensive. As much as we enjoyed the food, we would probably not come back as it lacked a wow factor. PS: restaurant feels pretty anti-vegan, not much plant based dishes.

Cannot recommend enough - every time I go to Quo Vadis it is absolutely unparalleled in service, atmosphere and quality of food. Everyone is so lovely and helpful with suggestions, but everything on the menu is incredible so you can't go wrong! For October I'd particularly recommend the olive bite and the fig and ricotta bread. Plus the pie of the day is always a great choice!!

OMG possibly the best meal I've had all year. Always feels a bit strong to come out with such a statement, but the rabbit main was just immensely delicious, perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned - one of those rare moments were I could close my eyes and enjoy every mouthful. I liked the eel sandwich too, not sure I'd order it again but it really was a wow in terms of flavour once more. Service good, wine fabulous. I was very impressed.

This place had been on the list for a while. We went for a lunch on the weekend, booked on the day. The restaurant is beautifully fitted, and spacious enough you don’t feel too close to your fellow diners. The eel sandwich was delicious, as well as the salted trout. Their martini menu was also interesting, offering a few variations on the classics. Very friendly and prompt service. Would happily go again!

Imagine refined British cuisine in a quiet place in Central London. I was surprised at how elegant this restaurant was despite its location. Outside, the restaurant is quite loud and lively from the neighbouring bars, but inside the restaurant, it feels like you've popped yourself over to Mayfair. The first thing I noticed was how decorative the menu is. They have a variety of options for all diets. We chose a mixture of fish and meat. Their seafood was delicious. The meats were seasoned well, but the smoked eel sandwich was my favorite. Overall, it's a high-quality London restaurant. All the dishes were up to par, but I didn't quite find anything that would urge me to come back quickly.

Old school legendary place with hearty food, some modern takes on traditional British food, with an extensive (and not cheap) wine list. Food was top notch, loved the pie of the day (game). Service was good but not exceptional, for example when we went to the loo between courses they brought out the next course and left it on the table rather than waiting till we were both sat down. Sommelier was very knowledgeable.

Conveniently located in Soho, this place is a great find if you fancy Modern British cuisine. We tried a few starters, and they are all very good. We had pie and skate for the main course they were a bit underwhelming. The pie crust came a tad too hard. I appreciate the generous portion of the capers that came with the skate, but the fish was pretty much soaked in the oil. Overall good experience though.

My daughters birthday dinner was an absolute delight. It was as if we had passed into a more gracious and time honored way of dining. Everything, from the moment that we checked our coats to the classic elegance of the dining room to our exceptional (and sharply attired) host and server Tommy, made for a lovely ambiance. The food and wine were superb - and the mens bathroom was an unexpected gem from a bygone era. We look forward to our next visit to Quo Vadis!

Quo Vadis is a gem in Soho combining charm, history, and exceptional food. The atmosphere feels warm and intimate, with a touch of understated elegance that makes it as comfortable for a casual meal as it is for a special occasion. There s a timeless quality about the place, a sense that it belongs to both Soho s vibrant past and its present. A restaurant that feels personal, welcoming, and consistently excellent a rare find.

We went for a pre-theatre meal and everything served to us was just delicious- from the bread to the starters through to mains, wine and dessert. The eel sandwich is a must-try of course (it was much better than I was expecting- probably one of the best starters Ive had in the capital). The pie was packed full of deliciousness and was quite hearty. The other mains and sides were all expertly handled and thoroughly enjoyable. Service was friendly, unpretentious and relaxed and the general atmosphere was altogether comfortable and charming, reflecting the character and history of the place rather nicely. We left the restaurant feeling very satisfied, well looked-after and wanting to come back for more. What more could one ask for in a restaurant?

As with many, Quo Vadis was on the list for a long time and we eventually booked for a special occasion. Unfortunately we were incredibly disappointed and it did not live up to the hype. We got the pork terrine which was more like parsley terrine with some pork. There was far too much parsley. The pie was nice but the sauce was incredibly watery and would have preferred a thicker sauce. The sides were also disappointing with the potato and pea salad having far too much mustard. Also to note our waitress was really brusk, she rolled her eyes when we said we had a voucher and got annoyed that we had spilled some food on the table. It was incredibly awkward. All in all I have to say it was quite a disappointing experience and unfortunately wont be recommending to friends and family.

The reservation was made on May 1, 2024, for May 27, 2024. On the day of the reservation, I received text messages confirming that I would still be dining that night, followed by another reminder of my reservation. I paid for an Uber to be driven to the restaurant, only to find it closed upon arrival. When making the reservation, it was stated that there may be a fee for no-shows or late cancellations. Given this policy, I believe I should be compensated for my time and the Uber expenses incurred due to the restaurants closure. It is unfortunate for such an establishment to act so irresponsibly. As a visitor from the United States, I could have made alternative dining arrangements had I been notified in advance.

Had to edit a previous review so guess it s been 4 years since I was last here! Food and wine was great as always, but have to say I do miss the old dining room with the iconic stained glass window! The stand out about today s experience I have to say was the service! Previously it s always been very efficient but I m afraid a little clinical (the quality of the food always made up for the lack of true connection and warmth). Today there was a difference, great warmth, connection and efficiency by Lydia who served me. I was too immersed in my book to engage in conversation, but she was incredibly attentive, always engaging and always greeting you with the most disarming smile. A true hospitalitarian! Thank you Lydia!

I d been looking forward to a meal here for many years and after our experience I had to wonder why. The food was mediocre and that s being kind. We thought we were off to a good start, as the mackerel beetroot rhubarb and fresh horseradish hit all the right notes. The fish was lightly pickled, as were the other elements, each done in a slightly different brine, and it was fun, playful and tasty. The rest of the meal was a mess. A boiled artichoke was simply plunked on a plate and served with a thick vinaigrette. This is something we do at home all the time, but getting the inedible choke out was a real chore with a fork and dull knife- who wants to fight with their food at these prices? Mains were both hugely disappointing. A tough bit of sliced lamb rump was served with an oily mint sauce which didn t do a thing for the dish. My pie of rabbit and Guinea fowl was full of bone. The sauce inside the pie was not creamy and rich but rather a very thin broth. While the flavour of the broth was good, it just didn t belong underneath a crust. When I questioned the server he said that if a pie contains either rabbit or Guinea fowl, traditionally it s served this way. I have to wonder why. We had some just okay drinks to start, and a glass of very ordinary Champagne with the mains. Though we were really looking forward to desserts which sounded delicious, we knew at this point they probably wouldn t be so asked for the cheque. The room is nice and service was okay, but the food was inexcusable at this price. Sadly it seems like a tourist trap- the best thing about it? The cute menus.

Sadly I must recommend to skip Quo Vadis. The service was friendly but disastrous. They were out of many things and kept realising it progressively as the evening went along. Drinks took 45 minutes to arrive from when we first sat down, and didnt even arrive together. Then they couldnt manage to course out our food so we ended up with too many dishes all served together that went cold before we could manage to eat them. Had to beg for the bill 3 times. For a dinner with very light drinking (1 drink per person), bill was £280. Which is a lot to spend to be badly served. The smoked eel sandwich was amazing. Get one to go and eat it on the street? Then go elsewhere.

Had a wonderful dinner at Quo Vadis this evening. The food was so good: inventive and creative, but balanced and delicious as well as exciting and new. Our server, Fabian, made it a really special dinner. He looked young through my 63 year old eyes, but he was a seasoned pro. I think if what we had been looking for was structure and formality, he would have delivered. However, as this was our first time here and my wife and I have no dietary restrictions and like just about everything, we asked Fabian to work with us to assemble a sampling that would give us a taste of what Quo Vadis does best. He delivered the goods. He was warm, engaging, confident and knowledgeable. A good reminder to the owners that what separates a good meal from a great one is this level of service.

I have been twice now and been disappointed on both occasions by various elements of the food. The eel sandwich is great but be warned, it s extremely peppery. I also really love the pistachio cake with rhubarb, this is the best dessert they do. However, it goes downhill from here The first time I visited I ordered the cured cod, courgette and salmoriglio. It was extremely bland. This week I went with a friend to order all of the puddings and try the legendary sticky toffee pudding. As someone who lives and dream by sticky toffee, I was expecting great things from Quo Vadis, especially considering I have heard it s one of the best in London but I left truly heartbroken. I judge a sticky toffee pudding as it is, and therefore asked for the cream and custard on the side but when it arrived there was NO toffee sauce?! It was so dry. Yes, I am sure people will say but that s what the custard is for but custard is not sticky toffee pudding. They are too separate things and I didn t have the heart to tell our sweet waitress how upset I was. I will admit that the custard is good though, so that s something at least. Also, the sorbet was absolutely fantastic and is definitely the superior dessert on the menu. Lastly, I have to share my disappointment in the trifle which had a very strange flavour that neither my friend nor I could place. An odd bitter after taste and excessive amount of custard and cream. I love Jeremy Lee and will continue to admire him from afar on instagram but I do not think I ll return to Quo Vadis. It s expensive and has let me down on both occasions. The staff are very sweet and it s not their fault at all, the food just hasn t met my expectations.

The new refurb seems to have done away with the stained glass windows which is a shame. There is much more space though and it s very comfortable, just lacks some of the old character. Serving staff were uniformly excellent and pleasant. Chef even shook hands! The main problem is that the two hour turnaround for tables is too short to enjoy a relaxed meal. We arrived 20 mins early but were reminded several times that the table was needed back. No time for coffees and liquors! Food was tasty and most enjoyable without any fiddly fine dining pretensions. If only we d had longer to eat it!

Very disappointing dining experience. Service and atmosphere fine but the food was huge let down . Having read reviews my friend and I ordered the Pie- chicken in sauce. The crust was very overcooked, the sauce tasteless and the chicken bit stringy. Final point was irritation at being reminded no less than 4 times that the table had to be vacated promptly. I dine at various restaurants in SoHo for business and pleasure and have to say this has been one of the least enjoyable. Won t be returning. PS would add that both my friend and I realised we had slightly gippy stomachs the next day ..

The team were wonderfully attentive in just the right way, knowledgeable and added to the whole experience. As for the food, it was utterly delicious, its hard to mention standouts but the soup of the day, goose rillettes, hake and seafood vol-au-vent were standouts. The desserts are delicious too but we were glad to share them having indulged so happily over the starters and mains! The white wine we had to accompany the meal was delicious also. Jigsaw puzzles. You open the box, dump all the pieces out onto the table, and your initial impression is typically, Huh? Do these pieces in any way match the puzzle that I THOUGHT that I bought? Well it sure felt that way when gazing at the Quo Vadis menu tonight. Me: Pardon me. Is there any way that we could get a menu printed in English? Server: Sir, your menu has been printed in English. Me: Oh. So where exactly do you go from there? Well we thought it best to have an honest chat with our server (and once we utilized our decoder rings) we felt pretty good about our choices. That is, until our meals arrived. After that we felt GREAT about our choices. I spied an unknown substance on my plate, so those of you who know me (and my sensitive stomach), will be pleased to know that I shared that mysterious substance with another Review Team Member for evaluation. After that person sampled the entirety of that generous portion, I was soon informed that the unknown substance was, in fact, horseradish. Having no known allergic reactions to that flavor party, I heaped an equally large portion onto my first bite of steak and soon discovered what a series of fireworks being set off within your nostrils must feel like. Restraint might dictate that we call it a night with the thunder sauce, but this was not destined to be regarded as a night of restraint. (Note to self: Be sure to cancel that upcoming ENT appointment. All recent issues have seemingly been resolved; and bonus, I think I can see dead people now. ) Near the conclusion of our meal a near tug o war occurred over the plates with which our meals arrived and the inevitable question was asked, Look, if you re gonna keep licking your plates, just know that we re gonna eventually need those back, ok? And that s Henry s Take. #londongreatfoodiscalling

We chose Quo Vadis for our company Christmas Party and we had such an incredible evening. The entire thing felt like luxury from start to finish. We hired out the Karl Marx room with one large ovular table which they had decorated for us to. The venue is absolutely beautiful, and the staff honestly could not have been any better. The girls covering our room that evening we so attentive and friendly and went above and beyond for us. As it was a Christmas party, the food was served Feasting Style which was well portioned so that everyone had plenty to eat, while reducing wastage. Most of our party shared from the chosen menu, while people with dietary requirements were catered to separately. The V/Ve & Pesc alternatives were also really good. The feedback we had from the team was that it was one of the best Christmas parties theyve had and they really enjoyed the experience. Following my experience at Quo Vadis, I will definitely return as a regular diner to the main restaurant and highly recommend the venue for private parties.

I booked to take my wife out on Valentine s Day and we were both very disappointed. To start; fish cakes were decent, but the Salsify was unimaginative and over-encumbered with Parmesan. My wife then had the rabbit which tasted metallic and undercooked whereas I had the pie of the day; dismally bland and dry as a bone (upon my asking they did bring some kind of gravy but there was no saving it). To be fair, the service was fairly good and they did offer to take the cost of my main off the bill as they could see I barely touched it. To top it off there was no music playing and absolutely no vibe in the venue. Can t say we ll be coming back here again and definitely wouldn t recommend it to friends.

I was fortunate to come to London for a holiday when Quo Vadis had finally opened after going through a renovation. My previous experience with eel has been in the form of sushi (which can sometimes has an oily taste) so this piquant version was a delicious surprise. The meaty pieces of smoked eel, smothered in fiery horseradish cream and Dijon mustard almost overwhelm the dish. But the sourdough bread pulled it together for me. Is the pickled onion a touch too much given the strong flavors of horseradish cream and Dijon? Perhaps, but I thoroughly enjoyed this delightful eel sandwich. The pie of the day was chicken with white sauce. The lovely crust with the creamy and satisfying filling were a perfect match. It was hearty and perfect for the rather dreary April weather. Loved this restaurant!

Overall wonderful experience. Would go back. The mackerel with pickled rhubarb and freshly made horseradish sauce was a dream. The starter of artichokes and fennel - somewhat meh. And the main course of porchetta (served cold) is mis-categorized - the porchetta is wonderful but with all the capers, and the anchovies and the sauce - the flavors are so strong and so salty (wonderfully so), the dish should be divided in half and served as a starter. Not a main course dish at all. Despite these drawbacks the meal was wonderful and we would go back!

My happy place

December 22, 2023

Do not trust the reviews of Time Out and mini-magazines that recommend the restaurant. For the first time in my life, I returned a dish and didnt win and in addition they argued with me after I commented on it, they said the policy is to charge even if you returned it, I returned it because it was too salty, I didnt like it, so I ordered another main dish. A restaurant that does not respect its diners and argues with them is not worthy of us coming through its doors, be careful!!!

The former Queen of Dean St still occupies a space in the ultra competitive London dining scene in 2023, but one more uncertain than when it first opened its doors. Where once, in its heyday, the dining room impressed with scale and decor, it s now truncated in favour of providing floor space to the much buzzier Barrafina next door. The food is still excellent but the service on the night we visited was a little hit and miss and not up to the standard of somewhere charging up to £40 for a main.

A unique dining experience at this renowned British restaurant in Soho. Its famous for its pies and smoked eel sandwich. I had a chicken and rabbit pie Was very tasty but could have used some veggies. Its primarily meat and sauce with a crispy tasty pastry on top. The jellied pork starter was delicious as was the pistachio tart with peaches for dessert. Service was excellent and our server couldnt have been more attentive and helpful. Good cocktails as well. This is a London institution and its reputation is well deserved.

A complete joke of a restaurant and a prime example of why London has lost its way in terms of customer service. Tried to book a private room five months in advance, and received extremely disinterested and mechanical responses (assume AI) demanding payment and with barely any understanding of requirement. Used to one of the nicest spots on the west end but is now just a faceless conglomerate (same group own a myriad of others). I have had better and more personal service at Five Guys!

It s a while since we visited Quo Vardis but as members and having been close by after a matinee theatre performance we rang to book an early table. Well! A transformation has occurred since we were last there for the better I hasten to add. We were greeted like long lost friends and ushered upstairs to the members dining room where Gigi our charming front of house host pampered us with exceptional service. Jeremy s food did not disappoint either. Hubby and I both had the fabulous smoked eel sandwich I had the most delicious grouse hubby the skate washed down with a full bodied red. Can t recommend this great gem of a place more highly. Till next time.

We stopped at Quo Vadis on the way to a show, not knowing it was famous, and instantly got charmed by the beautifully designed menu. We had a mix of mostly vegetarian starters and cocktails. Our waiter was lovely and food excelent - especially the fig & goat cheese sandwich. Recommended :) Vegetarian options: There are a few on the menu, and the chef was open to creating something vegetarian on request if we stayed for a meal. The vegetarian side dishes make good starers on their own.

Cosy room and good British grub. I had pie was which was slightly salty but very rich and enjoyable. The food is presented well but it lacks a little something! Veggies on the side were small and nothing special. The only thing that annoyed me is the staff constantly trying to sell us wine. It seem to be a pattern after ordering one glass. Overall very nice place and recommend a visit.

Traditional British food, but despite the white tablecloth and price it doesnt elevate itself beyond the average gastro pub. Dishes were too salty and not imaginative (vs a pub). The Haddock on beans was steamed with the skin still on which meant there wasnt much flavour. The pie was far too salty and consist of a Boeuf bourguignon which anyone could make at home. The meringue was alright but too chewy. If this was a £50 evening I would have liked it but £95 without starters and 1 drink is far too steep. On top the staff are adorable students which is fine for a cooking academy restaurant but not for this price level. There are many better place for this amount.

Quo Vadis Private Dining I booked a private room for a dinner to celebrate my 60th in September 23. 15 minutes after we arrived the DJ in the private room next door started playing very loud music. As a result we were unable to talk across the table, unable to hear the playlist my friend had created for the evening and I had to spend time dealing with the Quo Vadis team instead of enjoying my celebrations. The duty manager took steps to try and improve the situation but was unwilling to do the one thing that would have helped - turn down the music next door to a sensible level. There was insufficient staff in the 15-minute window my guests arrived and serving plates that were not heated so a number of us ate cold steak. The approach to presentation can only be described as cafeteria-like, certainly not the promised Feast. I should say that the quality of the food was good. A sensible discount was negotiated after a laughably unacceptable initial offer from the head of events at the Hart Group. Sadly I cannot rerun my 60th birthday celebration.

Last week, we had an amazing dinner at Quo Vadis in Soho. The service was outstanding the staff was really nice and took great care of us. The food was delicious too! I tried the eel sandwich, which was really good. But the standout dish was the rabbit with girolles (which I did not order, so tried to steal some from my partners plate - so so good). It was fantastic! The rabbit was tender, and the girolles added a great earthy flavor. Every bite was a delight! The atmosphere at Quo Vadis was cozy, and the whole experience made our evening special.

I mean really good from the moment of arrival at reception to that of the knowledgable and delightful Lily who made sure my table was so well looked after.. The food. I mean it s hard to fault anything from Jeremy Lee s kitchen. The decor and ambience. The balance of music and volume is spot on, the room warm and inviting. The price point is not outrageous and you feel the experience is worth every penny. What I didn t like: N/A Do I recommend going? YES Will I go again? YES Was it good value? The only small criticism that, when the air con kicked in intermittently, it got quite cold. Highly recommend!

Overall a bust. The smoked eel sandwich was spot on. Very nice dish. The chicken pies were uninspiring. Flavorless. Leeks would have been a nice addition for flavor. One of the pies was very dark and somewhat over cooked. Fegato... Forget it! Salsify was unimaginative. The server forgot to bring another requested martini, and neglected to ask if we wanted another bottle of wine. The wait between starters and the entrees was FAR too long. My first and final visit.

Style and Character: Quo Vadis recently underwent refurbishment, and the updated aesthetic is pleasing. The red sofas in the dining area provide a structural elegance, although there is a slight issue with draftiness at the table next to the stairs. Food and Drinks: The food and drinks are a delightful blend of seasonal and British offerings. I had the pleasure of trying their December pie with turkey, and it was excellent. Service: The service was noteworthy, with our waiter displaying a high level of professionalism. Despite opting for a three-course meal, we found ourselves in a bit of a rush after dinner due to the need to vacate the table for the second seating. In summary, the overall experience at Quo Vadis was good, and I would recommend it. While the drafty table and the slight rush were minor inconveniences, they do not detract from the positive aspects of the visit. Given the commendable service, I see no reason to deduct a star for these issues.

Excellent Soho restaurant run by the brilliant chef Jeremy Lee who was previously at the Blueprint Cafe in the Design Museum when it was on the Southbank. We had two starters - peppered venison with pickled prunes and puntarelle with anchovies - which were both great. We followed these with two main courses - fegato alla Veneziana (calves liver with onions!) and a cannelloni dish with cheese, pumpkin and chard - which were also terrific. We accompanied the food with four glasses of very good wine. Very friendly and helpful staff.

The concept is very innovative and the food well presented with interesting flavours, small plates are tasty but not all they work in a cohesive way, so maybe some recommendation of the waiter of what to mix and what not to would be better. Mains were outstanding, my partner loved the pie and I loved the halibut. The ambience was ok and the place was overall very pleasant. What this place fails is at service, our drinks took too long, we got the first round after the small plates, I asked for the drink menu again and it took close to 5 minutes to get it. We have to ask for water, missing fork and the check twice. Unfortunately the service doesn t make justice to the potential of the food.

Service was great - our waitress Ayla was perfect. Friendly and attentive throughout. No need to ask for anything except the bill at the end. The food was really tasty, but the portions are easily shareable which they dont tell you. We ordered 2 starters, 2 mains and 2 sides and there were loads of leftovers. Really good sides. Starters delicious. Some of the best roast potatoes weve ever had. Nice wine and nice that you can buy a carafe. The reason Ive deducted a star is because the place is DEATHLY quiet, which leaves no sense of privacy and you can hear everyones conversations, which, judging by the old-school clientele of this place, will be either bearable or really annoying. Some music please!
