First time here. Amazing service and amazing food. The staff work so hard to make everything perfect especially galessio. He was outstanding! He did everything from take our order, flambé the Steak Dianne to perfection and clear away! There were two other young waiters who also made our evening. Thank you all of you. I’m sure we will be back!!
The food was exquisite, however the service was questionable. It started off well as they were very attentive and accommodating, however that quickly deteriorated as more guests arrived. They always seemed to take priority, and it left us stranded for terribly long periods of time; it was a battle to even gain someone’s attention. It was to the point where we literally overheard the head waiter lightly scolding another waiter after he realized how long we had been waiting since finishing our second course. No other table seemed to be experiencing this problem. These little disappointing mistakes continued until the end where we even had to point out that they had gotten the receipt wrong. Normally this is okay, but the addition of each continuous mistake made it seem like targeted neglect rather than happy coincidence. I doubt that this is a common occurrence, but, unfortunately, this disappointing experience is the only memory that we will have of this place.
It was my first time in London and I can tell that I felt in love with this city. We did stay at Rubens at the Palace and everything was excellent. From front desk, to room service and restaurant it passed all my expectations. Gianni our waiters guy was the best. Very professional and friendly person. I’m sad leaving after an unforgettable trip to this amazing place but I’m differently coming back soon. Thank you Rubens at the Palace. Thank you London.
Went here for an afternoon experience Ben and his team in the kitchen were brilliant knowledgeably, informative, and fun.the food was superb and Gianni is spectacular. I have eaten the beef wellington in the Savoy and the Rubens ,beef wellington is so far superior. If you want a fantastic traditional English meal go to Rubens It's 5 stars all the way
We visited to experience the Bottomless Champagne Afternoon Tea. The entire experience was perfect. Every interaction was attentive, engaging and informative. The staff were exceptional in particular Geraldine who took time to chat, was friendly and along with her colleagues kept us topped up, checked our needs and made our experience one to remember. Even though the staff were busy it never felt that way, they simply couldn’t have done more for us.
This restaurant is breathtaking due to staff, the venue and food. I had the two course menu costing £55 per person. It is available Monday to Friday you have to book from 6pm. The waiters Gianni &Gio were exceptional, we had bread starters the sesame crackers delicious! I had the venison for starters and the roast chicken for main. Perfection! They also did dessert for my friend's Birthday . Finally they had a great jazz singer performing ✨
The decor and atmosphere is exquisite; the calibre of service was of the highest standard - with the staff perfecting the balance of being attentive, personable and at all times impeccable. The starter wasn’t to my taste, but that is personal taste; The chicken main was absolute perfection. The chicken flesh was tender, skin crispy; the mash was silken and the sauce a perfect complement; The baked cheesecake is a house special and it was lovely (although I couldn’t finish it, as it was a generous portion).
Amazing night at the English Grill. Such attentive staff and the food was phenomenal. If I can be at all critical, it's that the vegan starter of carrots was actually too much carrot! But I'm nitpicking, everything was delicious. Restaurant Manger, Said, spent time with my husband talking about a local smokehouse for the restaurant's salmon (sounds a bit weird, but my husband loved it) which is just a lovely touch of personal service. They were also very attentive to my husband's cow milk allergy. Definitely recommend!
I took a number of colleagues for a celebration dinner at the end of a successful project. Outstanding classical service from Gianni and his colleagues. Exceptional food. Thankyou.
The place is very wonderful, classy and classy. The staff are very helpful, friendly and helpful. The employee, Gianni the manager, was very helpful with us. OH, just go allready! Super friendly and super nice. Treated like a queen.
My grand daughter and had high tea , breakfast and dinner. All were exceptional and memorable. The service is beyond any other I have ever experienced. Friendly, helpful, attentive . The food was excellent. Kid-friendliness: Staff were extremely friendly to my twelve year old .
Beautiful atmosphere. Amazing service. Great food. What more can you ask.
Excellent meal with excellent service. Will definitely go again.
Food here was amazing & the staff were very friendly
Nice food and service, i like the grilled items
A wonderful atmosphere of style and elegance.
Service and food were on point.
Excellent service and food. Will definitely recommend.
My partner and I were there 23.8.2024, friday, evening. The quality of the food and service were excellent. We had the beef wellington. The beef was succulent, done properly the filo pastry surrounding it was flaky and crispy and the layer of mushroom paste between the filo pastry and beef just added the final umph! Saif served us that night. His banter and level of service was what one would expect of such an establishment but he had a way of remaining warm and inviting without being stiff or stuffy. I most enjoyed the cheeky splashes of turqoise in various aspects of the decor. It provided for me a very engaging update to the traditional steak house look.
Highly recommended
The food was awful, unedible and still frozen!! took us 15 minutes to get seated then another 45 minutes for them to take our order!! our table wasn t cleaned properly when we were seated either!! Food
Very good restaurant with delicious food and great service.
This restaurant is very nice service and food are very fresh and tasty.
This restaurant offers an excellent service
Lovely place, lovely service and lovely food
Excellent, novel dishes last night with service to match. - NB: I was offered £123 per day [whatever that implies?!] to create 5 star reviews for a variety of venues Id be sent links to via Telegram. Never intending to complete the personally discussed/promoted full day of fabrication - I decided to see what just one task involved and asked to be paid after just one review as a measure of trust... ...my tongue being firmly in cheek during these interactions with the Telegram username that initially approached me.... - So I completed this review via the link sent to me and I dispatched a screenshot to show Id done their disinformational deed :-p - Of course the moment my review was accepted and live - the users Telegram account went strangely frozen in a kind of true/fake space/time posh food warp that Gene Roddenberry would be envious of. So whos paying who here?? myself and Im guessing MANY more on telegram certainly arent getting rewarded per fake review...?! =
Came for the Beef Wellington, it was really delicious
Great experience for a quiet romantic evening.
The beef Wellington was absolute perfection. Excellent service, magnificent atmosphere.
Dietary restrictions: Gluten free choices were plentiful and the whole team adjusted most of the food to remove gluten aspects and substitute for gluten free Food
Great dinner pre-Hamilton. This historic property could not have been better. Gianni, our server was spot on. Our food was awesome, we will return when in London for sure. The pork tomahawk was especially good.
Great place!! Spendy, but you get what you pay for!
Amazing food and experience!
Great spot for pre-theater dinner. Excellent food and wonderful service.
That resturant is fake collecting star by ads and telegram do not share and give stars ti the resturant dear friends
An old fashioned restaurant serving a meat-centric menu, but with Dover sole, tuna tartare and hand cut smoked salmon. Service was superb once some language problems were overcome. We had the tuna and the smoked salmon plus a potato side dish. Drinks were small and quite expensive, but well made. There was a very formal continental feeling which we enjoyed.
Delicious food and excellent service and great staff.
Saif, Pri and the entire team were amazing as was the food and ambience complete with Murano chandeliers!
The entire experience was outstanding! The beef wellington was superb and the hash browns are highly recommended. The select wine list is extraordinary! Saife our waiter was incredible. Creating a top 5 dining experience in my 63 years on the planet!
The food and drinks were amazing, one of the best restaurants I ve ever been in London
Phenomenal service and excellent food! Saif was excellent and attentive. He was well informed and answered all questions we had regarding the menu which left us confident in our dinner choices and did not disappoint! Every bite was incredible.
Gianni and his staff were amazing. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and atmosphere beautiful. We had a wonderful time and will definitely be going back again and recommending The English Grill to all of our family and friends!! Food
Had the Pre-Theater menu tonight before Wicked. Really fantastic service from beginning to end!!!! Wife and I had the squash chili soup and Ribeye steak and both were delicious. Daughter had a brownie that she devoured in approximately 5 seconds! Highly recommend if you are in the area Dr a night at the theater!!
Fantastic experience with superb food and service! We had Scallops Ceviche and Lamm Brisque for starters, with the Brisque being outstanding. Steak Diane and rib-eye with bearnaise/redwine souce for main course, we were both very happy with them. Tasty desserts with chocolate and mint!
Employees were amazing! Great food, great service!
Food is good. Gianni served very well.
royal surroundings, staff very polite and helpful. The food is perfect. well be back Wheelchair accessibility: You can enter the restaurant with a wheelchair.
Celebrated the London Marathon, dinner was so good, perfect taste, perfect temperature, the wine they recommended was perfect. Try the Cheesecake, one of the best I ever try

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the dining at the Rubens hotel in London, where we had the opportunity to enjoy both breakfast and dinner. The food and service exceeded our expectations. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Mohan Senchuri and Arbindra Nimai for their exceptional service, which contributed to creating a memorable experience.
I cannot recommend the English Grill enough, the food is phenomenal just as the service is. Tomasz the sommelier perfectly paired the wine with our meal, and Saif and his team were so friendly and attentive. Compliments to the all of the chefs too as the meal cannot be faulted. LOVE IT.
Great dining experience. Service was great and staff friendly. Good English food with high quality.
Great, friendly service Quiet and nice atmosphere Delicious food, all that we have One of the best steaks I had for long time Good selection of wine and recommendations Well priced for the quality
Impeccable service, delicious food and a really strong wine list! Gianni gave wonderful wine recommendations, we had just the most wonderful time! Will be returning frequently!! Food

Amazing dining experience. Christina was attentive and kind. Hope to return soon!
Loved their breakfast
Amazing place and food. Thanks to Saif (aka Bruno) for his brilliant service Food
Out from Australia and wanted to experience a special Christmas Day. The English Grill delivered it in spades from the service to the food to the sommelier. The location was easy to reach and the restaurant creates a sense of welcoming and calm. 5 stars across the board and a must do when visiting London
First of all it was the best service weve had in a long long time - Mohan, Gianni and Maimi thank you so much, you rock! For the food, it was also incredible. We were looking to have the beef wellington but it has to be pre booked 48hrs in advance. Even with that, the team provided us with samples which were amazing. The main dish was a rib eye cooked and cut to perfection. It is definitely worth every single penny and more.
We ordered chicken soup and fowl, both of which are just gorgeous. Gianni served us today, he is gentle and nice. Hope I can see you soon! Well done!
The service is great. Giannis service is very good and conscientious. The food tastes great. I like it very much and will come again next time.
I have to be honest, the breakfast that was included in our package was not good (say the least of it) but the server Elish went above and beyond to accommodate our needs and saved our mood :) Thank you Elish!
Sai provided first class service in recommending dishes and Tomas gave advice on the perfect wine choice.
The food was excellent and the team of servers was the Coup de Grace. Gianni was masterful preparing the Steak Diane and the post meal crepes. Grazie. The entire experience was memorable. I highly recommend visiting and engaging with the people and culinarily expertise.
We enjoyed a very good breakfast at The Rubens. The food was tastefull and the staff splendid!
We had a fabulous evening meal to celebrate a birthday. The food especially the lobster omlette was outstanding and the service was exceptional. We were treated to a surprise birthday cake which topped off a brilliant experience. We will definitely be coming back to the English Grill when we stay again
Exceptional service and elegant cuisine
Superb experience at The English Grill restaurant. We had the opportunity to have dinner and breakfast there. Everything is excellent, the service is impeccable. A special mention for Arnaud who is just adorable, funny and very helpful. Thanks to him for his kindness!
Excellent welcome and support, particularly by Arnaud and Érika, who largely contributed to making our stay very pleasant! Many thanks
Best Brekki we ever had very very friendly Staff- full of fun and very ambitious- especially the French speaking ones. Well done.
Gianni was superb at his job, being attentive to us from the start and very patience in explaining each dish. Dining experience was great with his excellent service
We ate breakfast here eight days which gave us a good idea of the quality of the food and customer service. We would like to thank Arnaud for being a great customer service representative of the English Grill. He made each morning a pleasant experience. Vegetarian options: Great choice of breakfast vegetarian items including plant based protein like bacon and sausage.
Excellent staff great place to stay. Great place to eat. Food is fabulous. I.
Anniversary beauty.. 10 years married, 14 years together, we celebrated love here & were rewarded with an unforgettable meal, stories, live music & wonderul service. We treated ourselves & we were treated. Gorgeous people, thank you x
Fabulous service, food, atmosphere! Treated us like royalty for our anniversary! Especially Caranni! Thanks!!
We have had the most incredible meal and dining experience at The Rubens, nothing was too much trouble, all the food was cooked to perfection and plentiful! We cannot wait to return for such a wonderful evening. Thank you to all in the English Grill at the Rubens.
Amazing meal. The staff are great and the food equally so. For a great silver service meal you cant do better.
Absolutely one of the best meals ever! The wait staff in particular Safe and Thomas ( sorry if I misspell your names) made it an amazing experience. The food was out of this world. I had the Lamb and my hubby had the steak Diane. Safe prepared the steak Diane and the crepe Suzette tableside. Everything as worthy of our belated birthday celebration. We will be remembering and talking about this evening for years. My compliments to the chef. Thank you fir a five star experience!
We had a truly outstanding experience at The English Grill (inside Rubens at the Palace Hotel). Our host Gianni and team were accommodating, highly attentive and patient explaining the different dishes and preparation. Wine sommelier was excellent. The environment was not patronizing or rushed unlike some other high end restaurants in the area. The menu had a variety of dishes that made it easy for each person in our party to find something delicious. Dover Sole, Steak Diane, and the crepes suzette were all excellent. Great experience, we ll be back! Kid-friendliness: Kid friendly for families with slightly older children that are behaved and have broad palettes.
The English Grill is a very good restaurant with a very nice atmosphere, great food and very good service,Gianni explained us the menu with excellent manner, I would definitely recommend.Greta von Stumm
Saif, Gianni, and the bar manager were so incredible!
My partner and I Spent our 15 year anniversary here and the service was impressive. Ellie and Saif made us feel comfortable and ensured that we enjoyed the whole dining experience. Would recommend this place for celebrating special moments or for a great dinner and desert!!
Saif was a wonderful server! Extremely knowledgeable about the food. He also made me homemade blue cheese dressing for my salad. Thank you! JR
Everything was superb! From the service to the food - it couldn t have been better. Saif was attentive to our special dietary needs and made sure we were taken care of! First night in London was splendid! Dietary restrictions: Needed a different salad dressing and it was made special! It was perfect. Made from scratch!
Will come again on my next trip! Very good food.
Great wait servers and lovely How do you spell ambiance ambiance.
A wonderful meal and experience at The English Grill and great friendly professional service we loved eating there throughout our stay at The Rubens well done and we highly recommend you
We have eaten here twice during our stay in London. The first time we were here everything was excellent, but our second time was a bit of a disappointment. Everything started out fine, but when it came time to serve our dinner, the plates sat on the service counter for a good 5 minutes. Our table was directly across from the kitchen and we saw the chef come out of the kitchen 3 times to find a server to bring us our plates. When the food arrived, it was just warm, which was a disappointment. We chose to eat the dinner and not complain, but when asked to review the experience I ve decided to register our disappointment. The restaurant is quite nice, the food quite good, but tonight s experience was a bit of a disappointment.
Attentive and welcoming staff and great food!
Awesome ambience. Fabulous starters, sommelier and crepe Suzette dessert. Lamb and anchovy main disappointing as was my wife s teriyaki cod and noodles. Otherwise superb service, Thomas the sommelier was unbelievably knowledgeable and enthusiastic.
Lovely place for dinner, the service was amazing and it s located right behind Buckingham Palace (they were incredibly helpful when they learned we had a food allergy at the table too). Highly recommend.
Food, service and atmosphere are top notch. Wonderful dining experience all around!
Wonderful steak Diane and a crepe Suzette to die for.
Very nice afternoon tea. A pity they didnt have one of the tea varieties (Planters Mistress) on the menu.
Excellent value for the level of food and service. The staff went above and beyond to make our pre-theatre meal memorable. They had a live singer in the cosy lounge next door to the restaurant and asked if we could enjoy our deserts and drinks there, and we were also brought complimentary macarons with a nice enjoy the show message. We arrived around 5:30pm and on the recommendation of our host we left at 7:20pm for Hamilton at the Victoria Palace Theatre around the corner and arrived right on time for the start of the show. The styling of the hotel and the overall experience could not have been a better warm-up for the show. Thanks!
We had been visiting in the UK for awhile, and on our last night in London, my husband was craving a steak, so we did some quick research and found The English Grill. As it was close to closing time, and we did not have time to clean up from earlier travel, we were worried that we might get turned away, but the reception was warm and the service was fantastic-- absolutely impeccable. The rib eye steaks were among the best we have ever eaten, and we enjoyed seeing the magic happening in the kitchen. Our expectations were exceeded in every way, and we certainly recommend The English Grill to anyone looking for a fine dining experience with an intriguing wine list while in London.
Wonderful experience all around, with an added bonus of the exceptional knowledge of the wait staff. Food was excellent after a recommendation from our waiter. Wine paired beautifully. Old school ambient setting rounded off a perfect dining evening.
Amazing and where vary kind people and had very good food! Awesome Vegetarian options: I forget but had some. Dietary restrictions: None Kid-friendliness: Totally
Lovely romantic dinner, excellent staff.
We had a great dining experience. The service personnel was very kind. Gianni, Ellie and Thomas gave us great recommendations on the menu and made our time there, very enjoyable. If you are around the area, it is a great experience, highly recommended.
We had a STELLAR experience here this June in the English Grill. If you have a few days in London and want to feel like royalty, this is the place to be! Happily situated next to Buckingham Palace, it provides a luxurious and comfortable setting for a formal, 3-course dinner. The Ruben s has three distinct restaurants inside, each with its own personality and atmosphere. We were served by Gianni, Ellie and Tomasz and each of them were friendly, conversational AND efficient. All three of them paid special attention to our table. Gianni made sure each time we were served a dish that it was nut-free or didn t include cashews, which one of my party was allergic to. The only thing that topped the service was the food itself. We came in time for the English dinner to begin and my family and I were treated to an amuse-bouche of mackerel and beetroot, which was an absolute pleasure to eat. My mom and I ate the asparagus with prosciutto and egg as a starter, and it blew us away. Each dish was crafted to the next level like it was a work of art. My dad said the chicken livers, a common sort of dish, was gourmet and incredibly enjoyable to eat. For our main courses we had the Rib-eye Steak, two servings of the Wild Garlic Gnocchi, and the fish of the day (halibut). We shared two slices of the cheesecake for dessert and were even given some chocolates and the end! Even I, myself, who is not a fan of cheesecake, couldn t put my spoon down. These dishes were made to the highest quality and we were speechless while we ate. It was the best fine-dining experience I have ever had.
The menu and the atmosphere was amazing! We are definitely coming back! Our server was very polite and sweet.
Every morning we had breakfast and our Server Arnold was a ray of sunshine! He started our day off with laughs and smiles with excellent service to get us quickly out the door so we could start our day of sightseeing. The food was so fresh and made perfectly! We will miss this place and especially Arnold!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and looked forward to breakfast every morning. Arnold is such a delight and so helpful. He was very good with the children. Such great energy! Thank you for taking such great care of our family!
Fabulous breakfasts and best service I ve ever had in London.
Gianni the best he took care of all the details of our dinner
Great place for food and cocktails
This is a lovely, classic British hotel restaurant inside the Rubens. We get a full breakfast every morning with our room and have been exploring the menu. Some items are missed but in general we appreciate the variety of options and the focus on local ingredients and produce. Service is friendly. It would feel way too expensive for what you get if you paid a la carte but buried in your room bill its an easy way to start your day. Vegetarian options: I love how many vegetarian and vegan options they offer while still maintaining a traditional English breakfast.
We thoroughly enjoyed everything about it. The service was impeccable. Gianni explained every aspect of the different meals and where the ingredients come from. Despite being a very up-market dining experience, the staff were all very welcoming and warm. The food was excellent. Also, there is space between tables so you dont feel cramped and crammed in. We will be back.
Saif and tomasz were excellent!
Delicious atmosphere, wine, and food. Perfect
We were treated to the Gourmet Experience and enjoyed every moment. The staff were excellent and Chef Ben Kelliher was amazing. Can t praise the restaurant enough. Food
Memorable experience for the elegance and elegance of the place. Then the exquisite courtesy and competence of Maître Gianni and Sommelier Thomas, prudent but precise in recommending refined foods and exquisite wine. At the end of a very pleasant dinner the Maître prepared two superb crêpes Suzette: never eaten so good, not even in France. Odorless, silent environment, with open kitchen. Truly 5 stars at the TOP.
Thomas and Saif made for an phenomenal dining experience. We would so highly recommend The English Grill to everyone. 10 out of 10 stars!
Saif and Thomas made our experience fabulous. The supporting staff was also exceptional. Thomas s knowledge of wine origins was remarkable! Food : 5/5
Ambience great but let down by gastropub level food. Dover sole was too salty and not fresh, stem broccoli was chewy and rum baba pudding was doughy/stogy . They only remembered my son s birthday right at the end after they gave us the complementary chocolates after so asked for the bill; gave him a piece of cake with no candle and didn t taste fresh at all. Very disappointed!
Beautiful meal. Gianni cooked our steak at the table superbly. All the time explaining each step. All staff were charming & efficient. I highly recommend this beautiful place
Fabulous setting with excellent service.
Bottom line - The food and the service were great. The head waiter, Sommelier and support staff were so friendly it felt like we knew each other already. I have an intolerance to dairy, no problem. My wife is vegetarian, no problem. TLDR; We are from the US and taking a 2 week-ish vacation through Germany, Austria, Italy, France and England. We had to change our 4 day visit to Rome due to the heat and we headed over to London earlier in our trip as planned. We were completely knackered from all the travel / heat, we were very hungry and we just wanted to get some comfort food so we agreed on Indian. We used apple/google maps app to find some places nearby our Airbnb and we saw the Curry Room and decided to take a chance that we could get a table. We arrive at The Rubens and realize that the restaurant is in the hotel so we start to walk in and the doorman asks where we are going, we say the Curry Room and he says with a concerned look do you have reservations , answer no but let s give it a try and he points us in the direction. of what we thought was the Curry Room. The head waiter greets us and sits us down, we get the menu and I sense something was wrong. (I m sorry but we were so tired at the time that I couldn t even remember my own name let alone remembering theirs now). I realize that there are NO curry dishes on the menu and I m feeling very sad at this point. Head waiter says, very politely, that there is no way on earth that we can get a table so we find ourselves sitting at the English Grill :). We were too hungry to run out the door so we decided to stay and make the best of it. We weren t dressed spectacularly but just barely good enough to not get turned away at the door so we dug into the menu and I decided to have a steak, my wife had a ravioli dish and we both had a much deserved glass of wine (a full bottle was ordered later on because we were having such a good time). A lovely 98 year old woman from Wales sat (alone) next to us and we chatted with her for about an hour. Turns out that she is a regular who has been coming to the hotel and restaurant for ~30 years! (and wait for it, she was on a business trip !). When she retired to her room for the evening another couple came over to double click on our discussion with her - they were in the movie industry and taking a client to Wimbledon the next day. So we just wanted a curry and wound up at a restaurant that we probably would never have explicitly chosen and we had an amazing evening and we are so glad that we stayed.
Amazing experience and delicious afternoon tea. Exceptional service from Erika. Thank you :)
Everything about our dinner was excellent. The food was fantastic and the service impeccable. Highly recommended for a special occasion.
We absolutely love The Rubens. We ve been several times. The staff are fantastic. The English Grill is outstanding. The food, presentation and service is absolutely out of this world.
A vibrant and bustling food market with a diverse array of international cuisines. From spicy curries to gourmet burgers, there was something for every palate. The lively atmosphere and communal seating made it a perfect spot for a global dining adventure.
Perfect evening. Excellent food , service and a very personal touch which was very much appreciated
The ratings are not a mistake: the food is good; the service, if fussy, is certainly attentive; and the atmosphere is luscious yet cozy, with moments of theatre. The issue here is simply value for money. I came here in August 2023 to dine with family members who were staying at the hotel. The bread was good (those made in-house excellent) and the anchovy butter superb. The scallop starter was tasty but a little under - a harder sear would have gone a long way, but a couple more degrees on the centre would have been nice too. The caviar on it served only to justify the price. For mains we had lamb navarin, wild garlic & parmesan gnocchi, and a fish of the day, which was seabass. Navarin is a French springtime stew. This was an attempt to make a refined take on that. The lamb was very tender but could have been juicier (perhaps it was too high value a cut, lacking a little collagen). The sauce was exquisite, heady with rosemary, a real sign that these guys know what theyre doing, but the dish was sauced to sparsely - an extra 45ml - one shots worth - would have really improved the eating experience of this dish. Vegetables were treated well. The gnocchi was a really uninspiring dish. Flavours of tomato, garlic, walnut were pleasant but forgettable, the sort of thing youd get in any decent Italian restaurant, the gnocchi were a bit dense, and the sauce was tight and lacking brightness. Sea bass was really nicely cooked, sweet flesh and crispy skin, the standout dish, sadly not my own. We had creamed spinach, and parmesan truffle hash browns on the side, both of which were pleasant but safe. The hash browns were recommended by the waiter, and I was expecting bold flavours and shattering texture, but got neither. We shared a rhubarb and chocolate dessert. Tasty, but nothing more. Heres the issue: between 3 of us we ordered 1 starter, 3 mains, 2 sides and a dessert (there were children too, Ive ignored their food, and there was wine too, also put to one side). We were also given some bread and flavoured butter, and a pork belly amuse-bouche (not all the guests eat pork, but the restaurant only asked about allergies and, not expecting such extras, nobody mentioned this fact - blame shared). If the decor had been unassuming and the total had been £125, Id be giving this place an unambiguously positive review, and calling it an excellent bistro. The problem is that those dishes cost about £190, literally 50% more. And frankly, we didnt even order anything off the grill, which averages around £65 per dish. The setting is expensive and desirable, and the prices follow suit. Sadly the culinary touch is not at the same level. At those prices, Id expect the food to be at least more precisely executed and preferably also more interesting (although I appreciate they appear to be aiming for very traditional). I enjoyed my evening at The English Grill thoroughly, but at that price I can think of a dozen places Id sooner recommend.
A vibrant and bustling street food market with a diverse selection of international cuisines. From spicy curries to gourmet burgers, there was something to satisfy every palate. The energetic atmosphere and communal seating made it a popular destination for a global culinary adventure.
Great food - amazing service / Saif was very attentive and knowledgeable. Hit a home run on all his recommendations . The wine Stewart - Tomasnz was excellent. Highly recommend.
Thoroughly enjoyed The English Grill in the Rubén s Hotel. Saif Saiyed - the restaurant manger, made the experience extra special and the food was exceptional. We would not hesitate to return in the future.
Amazing food especially the Steak Diane.
We had a most wonderful experience at the English Grill! From start to finish we were serviced at the highest levels. My wife and I both had the Dover Sole and it was excellent. Restaurant Manager and our waiter for the night, Saif, made us feel special. Thanks for a wonderful dining experience!
We really enjoyed the Ruby Anniversary meal we had at the English Grill at the Rubens Hotel this evening. The waiting staff were so attentive and kind and the Steak Diane and Crêpes Suzette prepared by Gianni - delicious.
This was a delicious menu with lovely, friendly, knowledgeable staff. It was a great way to celebrate our anniversary Food
Our waiter Saif was exceptional. He went above and beyond to make our meal wonderful.
We were recently in London for a short trip, staying at The Rubens at the Palace, home of The English Grill, and we had booked The English Grill for our first night in town. Were we impressed? Absolutely. Saif Saiyed, Manager of The English Grill, personally walked us through the menus, the preparations, and all. He further introduced us to Thomas, the wine director, who assisted us with a perfect wine to accompany the dinners we had chosen. Mine was the Dover Sole and the best I had ever tasted. Saif personally and impressively filleted this fine fish tableside. My wife chose an appetizer of Irish salmon and Scottish salmon, together. They were also sliced tableside with precision. I cannot say enough nice things about The English Grill and The Rubens is a fitting host of this superb restaurant.
Such a fabulous restaurant and experience! We loved Saif and the hospitality of the entire staff! The food is excellent Vegetarian options: Great options in general ! Kid-friendliness: Super friendly for kids while also being an excellent fine dining establishment
Yuummm
Cannot rave enough about the hotel, its fabulously trained staff, the restaurant, the food, the wine. Mr. Saif Saiyed, the Restaurant Manager remembered us, what we ordered, what we liked. He made us feel at home all week. It s London, so I cannot/should not eat here every day. But I could.
Wonderful staff. Excellent Rib Eye and totally enjoyed the chicken noodle soup with little pot pie. Superb wine list
This is a wonderful fine dining experience. Everything was good except my main dish. I ordered the pasta. It was gnocchi but I did not see the small print (ve) that meant vegan. It was dry and spongy. The staff were wonderful except for not caring that I didnt like the gnocchi. Appetizers, bread, drinks and the steak ribe eye were fabulous!!
We enjoyed breakfast at The English Grill several days on our recent visit to London. What struck me most was the attention to detail; the breakfast bar was fully stocked and kept immaculate, table service was always on point, and the decor was really cool. The sampling of the menu over those days was great as well.
The service was amazing and the food was superb!
Thank you. We had an amazing experience with Chef Ben. The food and service was splendid. Chef Ben, Thomas and Saif thank you so much, we enjoyed our dinner a lot!
Terrible .
Excellent food and service!!!! We enjoyed dinner one evening with great quality food and drinks and superb service. Breakfast was perfect especially for trying an English Breakfast for the first time!
It s a very lovely place with live music and fabulous food.
A wonderful evening with delicious food. The staff were warm and attentive! Looking forward to our next time at the English Grill.
We had the dinner and show set menu. What a wonderful evening. Totally pampered and the food was both delicious and filling.
Booked a meal off the cuff. The staff were really friendly & ensured we enjoyed our evening. The food was second to none!
Great service and food.
delicious food with lovely, friendly, knowledgeable staff.
The experience as per the Norm was exceptional , Saif our waiter made the night one very much to remember once again
Excellent service and delicious food!
We booked here for Christmas lunch and it was a fantastic experience! The service is excellent, the decoration is very elegant and the food is fabulous! It is expensive for this particular event, but the value is according to what you receive. Although the reservation indicated that the experience would last 2:30 hours, we have been there for more than 3 hours and no one has ever rushed us through any of the food steps. Simply excellent!!!
The food, the staff and the setting were absolutely superb, we really couldn t have asked for anything more. A wonderful experience.
Amazing service, great food. Perfect for a romantic date night in a calm and quiet atmosphere.
Very enjoyable dinner Great service Saif, Stveti and Vincent provided exceptional service Would recommend for a special occasion or romantic dinner
Excellent dinner and wine service. The duck entree was wonderful. Staying in hotel 41 and it is located just next door. Service and food was better than three other restaurants we dined with.
Robert lyall & Saif looked after us perfectly, absolutely amazing afternoon tea experience they both was very attentive
Ive already been to this place twice, and both times the food was delicious and unique. It clearly caters to the more adventurous eater, although all of the meals are expertly made and presented. Everything my girlfriend and I ate was delicious. And the staff is kind and accommodating. A fantastic location for an out-of-the-ordinary date! Thank you
Wonderful restaurant ! The food was freshly prepared and delicious . We had breakfast there every morning and it was the perfect way to start our day. The continental breakfast buffet had many options and the service was outstanding . Erica in particular was very nice & friendly and always went above & beyond to make sure everything was excellent .
Impeccable and gracious service. Food perfectly prepared. We felt very welcome and well taken care of.
A wonderful, old British dining experience. It was quietly elegant with attentive staff and delicious food. It was a perfect evening.
Fantastic service and a beautiful presentation. The food was decadent.
Brilliant service and food. We were lead in by the porter. He showed us towards the restaurant. We were sat quickly and immediately a server was with us with menus. He explained what the fish of the day was. We ordered our starters and mains and asked for wine advice. Our server brought the sommelier over. He had already heard about our food choices and had his advice at the ready. The wines he suggested were brilliant. They paired beautifully with the dishes. The food was amazing. It tasted so rich and perfect. Best food we had in a while. Our server was friendly and polite. When it was time to order dessert the sommelier came back to help us with a dessertwine. He asked us if we knew how dessertwine was made. He started to tell us an amazing story about different types of dessertwine and how they were made. He told it with enthusiasm. A man who clearly loves his job. It was overall a wonderful experience and worth the time and visit.
Five star cuisine, decor, hospitality and service. Highly recommended, English breakfast and English afternoon tea. White linen, high end dining experience. Their server Eilish was truly enhancing the dining experience. If you are close to the Buckingham palace check them out.
Lovely dining experience, My wife and myself were very pleased with the food, we found Elish and all the staff were very helpful and friendly. I would highly recommend this Lovely restaurant.
The most amazing experience at The English Grill, top class food and service!
Wonderful people, place and delicious
Rubens is simply wonderful, magical atmosphere and excellent service. Rich and high quality breakfast, the staff throughout the hotel are very professional and attentive to detail. To be recommended as well as for the location
The place itself is amazing. Just beautiful. The food was not bad, but due to the price and the style, I expected a lot more than not bad.
One of the restaurants inside the Rubens at The Palace hotel, elegant and spacious, kitchen on display. Attentive and careful service. For four mornings we enjoyed their powerful à la carte English breakfasts, complemented by buffet pastas, fruit, juices, etc. And our pleasant impression was completed with a pleasant dinner. Good cuisine in a unique setting. It has another room to enjoy cocktails and drinks with live music. Recommended for a special evening
We can t wait to be back in London to visit this lovely enchanting place again. Thanks to the manager for creating such great team! We really enjoyed the experience at this lovely restaurant. We love it!
The staff is amazing. They run like a well oiled machine!
Great steak & drink selection. Definitely the lobster omelette starter is a must! Super lovely staff who are attentive & very professional.
Just fell in love with this place. It s rare to find English restaurants like this these days but it still exists. Classy old English type of serving , the trolly comes to you for certain dishes.
Great atmosphere, high quality service and food. There was a lady singing as well. We had tartare (prepared infront of us) that was fantastic. Also the burrata with avocado on toast with smoked tomatoes, was good too. We pre-booked the beef Wellington. Perfect medium rare, large portion. Adding the starter was really a lot of food. Robert the waiter was really prepared and recommended the perfect wine for our dinner. I think this place doesnt have 1 Michelin star just because the dishes are very traditional but the entire experience is exactly like being in a starred restaurant.
What a wonderful experience!!! Me & my mum stayed in the hotel and had a wonderful evening meal and also 2 breakfasts at The English Grill. The service is impeccable, the food is beautiful, and the surrounds are just stunning. The only critique we have is the veggie options on the evening meal as there was only one main option, but we understand this is a limited menu due to the circumstances! Robert was absolutely lovely! So incredibly attentive and really made the evening dinner experience. We had food cooked in front of us and everything was just so lovely! He also greeted us for breakfast and once again gave amazing service which we greatly appreciated. Thank you so much Robert and we hope to see you on our next visit! During our breakfasts we also was served by Erika who was just wonderful and did such an amazing job pretty much single handedly running the Monday breakfast! Once again just as attentive and lovely service. Thank you so much to all the team! We shall be back :)
Had a fabulous overnight stay at Rubens, bottomless Champagne Royal Afternoon tea was incredible! Gorgeous sandwiches and light pastries & mousses were so tasty. Erika our server was excellent- so attentive, smiling & friendly, she really made our stay memorable.
Bad service they canceled my day I booked
Straight forward Christmas meal but cooked to perfection and the service was a very good, silver service type level but very friendly and down to earth. Perfect for the day.
Visiting to see why the hotel, bar and restaurant are so popular with tourists we were welcomed to The English Grill to dine followed by tea in the New York Bar. Wide menu selection and friendly staff mean this could be an everyday dining spot.
Attentive service and good food.
They have no respect for dietary requirements and are very unprofessional and unsympathetic to their customers. Dont eat here if you have specific dietary requirements or any allergies! Or if you are going to celebrate a birthday here, do not trust any of the staff with any surprise plans. They blab! Awful - one of the worst dining experiences Ive ever had!
The food here is out of this world.
While the venue was beautiful and the food decent, unfortunately I cant give this restaurant a positive review. My party and I were very clear to our server and other staff throughout our meal that we had a musical that began at 730. As time dragged on and on and we still hadnt been served our mains, we began to sweat, worrying we would be late. The restaurant was barely at half capacity, so Im not sure what the crazy wait was about. We reminded our server again about our 730 show and after another wait, we finally got our food. At that time we asked for our bill to be brought asap, as we were running out of time. The bill did not come for another 20 minutes, a mere five minutes before our show was to begin. We paid our bill and sprinted to the theater, but arrived 3 minutes late and were shut out and missed the first 25 minutes of the performance. It was completely unacceptable and put a damper on one of only two nights that my friends and I were spending in London. I hope this was some sort of a strange fluke and no one else has a similar experience here.
Our waiter Adriano was impeccable. His knowledge of the food and wine was flawless. His service was the best I have had the pleasure to experience. Drinks were brought to the table quickly and the food was well presented and divine. The rest of the team were also warm and welcoming. My partner and I were graduating and Adriano made the night really spectacular for the whole party. The manager also came to check with our table to see if everything was great. I could not recommend this place anymore. My favourite restaurant in London. Thank you Adriano and to the rest of the team.
Very lush old english dining rooms with gorgeous decor and great fine dining service. High quality meat and al la carte menu with separate sides. They give you a small torch to see the menu in the dim lit room which adds ambience. Would definitely return on a special occasion
The food was great!
What a great experience at the English Grill! I highly recommend it, especially if wanting to have a special dinner before catching a musical nearby. The service was outstanding - one of the best I have ever had in London. The staff was really attentive, friendly and went above and beyond to make our dinner special. I do suggest if you are going for dinner there for a special occasion, to make a reservation and give them a little call. The ambiance was beautiful - very British, fancy deco. The pre-theater menu was reasonably price for the venue. We give a 5-star review although we would consider it more like a 4.5 because of the food. Although it was good and well prepared, it was not outstanding like the service and ambiance. But I would still recommend it!
Went there for afternoon tea. It was probably at 15% capacity but we werent seated in the restaurant but told to wait in the bar... We were told it would be a 5-10min wait. 30mins later we left because we still hadnt got a seat in the restaurant and the restaurant was basically empty.
Perfect Meat and very friendly service
High quality dining and superb staff.
Delicious food with style
Wonderful meal with very good, friendly staff.
The tastiest food Ive ever eaten. I had the sweet potato and was just amazed at the beautiful flavours. My friend ordered the sirloin steak, with a side order of mash potato, they said steak is now ruined for them, as it will never be as good as that steak was. The bread basket was delicious, several types of high quality breads to try. The salad bowl was so lovely. The starter I had of avacado toast surprised me with a beautiful array of tomatoes on top that I enjoyed. My friend had the potato hash to start. My pina colada was tasty. The staff were friendly, placed us in a lovely booth and they were very attentive. It was fascinating to be right in front of the large glass window to the kitchen. The decor was very extravagant and beautifully designed. The live piano music from the adjacent room was lovely. Quite expensive, but definitely worth it for the quality, definitely worth a booking.
Beautiful and incredible service from all the members of staff at the Rubens. Especially those in the New York bar this afternoon.. My order was not even on the menu. HOWEVER. My wish was the ladies command and leak and potatoes soup with warm rolls + sirloin steak and chips was served to me both individually and instantly. Thank you for your brilliant service which was provided with love care and attention. Amazing Edward Swindells
A place with aristocratic decoration with sumptuous fabrics and classic furniture. Breakfast was really delicious as was the Christmas turkey dinner. But the best, without a doubt, is the impeccable service.
