3-5 Great Scotland Yard, London SW1A 2HN, United Kingdom
Ekstedt at The Yard brings Michelin starred chef Niklas Ekstedt's signature style of wood fired ‘old Nordic’ cooking to the UK for the very first time. Ekstedt at The Yard focuses on Scandinavian cooking techniques using the very best seasonal British ingredients; featuring a menu of signature dishes, alongside an inventive cocktail menu and extensive wine list. The open kitchen, which feels like an extension of the restaurant floor, allows diners to sit at the heart of the action.
Booked the Chef's table tasting menu to celebrate my partner and I both reaching a significant birthday this year. The experience could not have been better with fabulous food, drink and lovely staff. A very special yet relaxed experience.
Theres Anderson and her team certainly take you into the Swedish forest every course out did the last leaving you wanting more. The flavours tantalising your taste buds it was hard to say which was my favourite course either the lobster with the foam which tasted of the best lobster bisque or the veal carpaccio with mustard ice cream. The invitation to the kitchen was a memorial experience. The sommelier was so informed and interesting all the restaurant crew were exceptional. Thank you for a taste and memory go and enjoy the experience Amanda
My husband and I went for the tasting menu with wine pairing. We really enjoyed both the food and the wines (a part from the final wine which for us didn't work as it felt too bitter for the dessert). The staff is super friendly and polite, and a particular note goes to the Sommelier who spent the perfect amount of time in telling us about each wine tasted. My constructive feedback goes as this: the service felt quite rushed in the first half and slowed down in the second half. Try to make it less rushed as I was starting to feel drunk by trying to finish the wines. Therefore, I started leaving the wines behind, which was not nice. A couple of times, I had to ask for my tap water as I had an empty glass. Either leave the jag on the table or be more attentive. My husband ordered sparkling water, and the waiter removed the cap from the bottle. I'm sure it doesn't get flat straight away, but it's nice to be able to scre the cap. 13.5% discretionary tip is automatically added to the bill. I would like to choose what tip to leave, if any. Please give options whether to leave no tip, 10% 12.5% or 15% or higher.
I came here for my 30th birthday and I cannot fault it . All the staff were so welcoming and happy to explain anything you were unsure about . Food was outstanding and presented very well and staff explained each dish to us in detail. We had the tasting menu with wine pairing and no alcoholic pairing and the drinks were very nice and went very well with all the food .
Outstanding! That’s all I can say. We went on a Friday night, dinner for two. We did not pick the full tasting menu, but starter and main course plus self selected wine. The place is inside the hotel, just ask if you can’t find it like us. From the entry to the exit everyone was super polite and helpful. Great staff, attentive, great explanations of the food and recommendations, always with a smile and a small joke. The food is mind blowing, interesting flavors but never overwhelming, everything is fresh and home made / cooked over fire. We literally had not one single part that was not outstanding, down to the homemade warm bread. All of this comes at a price, but I would go back in a heartbeat. Super experience front to end. Thank you
Lovely evening enjoying a vegetarian tasting menu with champagnes (and some lovely wines). We were a group of 8 women enjoying a special champagne pairing dinner. The service was superb, the seat near the open kitchen was lovely and the food was really interesting and delicious. Not always the case for a vegetarian menu. The balance of smoke, acidity, sweet and salt were perfect on every dish. A special shout out to the head somm who took immense care of us and to the lovely chef who came and spoke to us at the end of the evening. It felt personal and we felt valued and for sure would return. The bread and butter in whey are worth a mention too, as is the beautiful bar and lobby area of the hotel. After dinner we had cocktails in one of the bars and they were wonderful too, lots of flare and theatre for us too thanks to the great mixologist. A great evening.
An amazing dinner; a tasting menu all built around the concept of cooking over an open fire. The best oyster I've ever had, cooked with beef tallow. And great, friendly service. Updated: my first review was two years ago. I just dined again tonight (as well as six months ago) and it's still wonderful. Every dish was great, and the menu seems to be updated regularly. Definitely plan to come back when I visit London in the future!
A wonderful experience at Ekstedt at The Yard. We went for the six course midsummer tasting menu with the wine pairing and additional oysters. I went here with my partner as they had been previously and loved it. I am a great seafood lover and fan of trying new flavours so they thought I would love it as well. It did not disappoint. The first this I would say is this experience is not cheap so if you are thinking of going be prepared for the cost. The atmosphere was very warm and relaxed, the room had a fragrant calming perfume mixed with a light smokey aroma of the open fire. Every course was accompanied with the perfect wine pairing and I was amazed to try herring that I found delicious, something I've had before and never enjoyed! I would definitely recommend to add the oysters as I've had these before and, on occasion, have been underwhelmed but these were perfect. If all oysters tasted like this I would get them every time. The waiters were attentive and gave thorough descriptions of each course, they even brought back bottles of wine for us to take note of so we could purchase at home. There wasn't a single course that I wouldn't recommend, although I did get food envy looking at the couple next to us. They had a dessert that was set alight that they said was fantastic so I think I will have to go back and try that at some point. I would have ordered it as extra but I was so full I don't think I could have eaten another thing. That was the other thing with the tasting menu, although it looks like it might not fill you up because some of the portions are small, that is not the case. I was just glad that the final few desserts were smaller so I could fit them in. Overall I would highly recommended for those who love seafood, wine, trying new things and luxury experiences that feel warm and inviting. It would be perfect for a birthday or anniversary treat to make someone feel special or an excellent place to impress work colleagues or clients.
Impeccable Sunday lunch. Highly recommended.
Great restaurant, great food, excellent service! If you are around Covent Garden it is worth a visit.
I booked this restaurant for my Husbands birthday after spotting the chef on MasterChef. We had the most amazing experience. We did the tasting menu and the food was incredible. The service was top notch and they added lovely additional touches for my Husbands birthday (a handsigned card by all the staff). Would 100% recommend for a very special evening!!
Excellant
This restaurant is a must !! All the staff are so helpful, knowledgable and friendly. Every course is on point and inovative.
Sunday Roast for incredible. Food and service was amazing, would definitely recommend
Had a fantastic Sunday Roast here last week - would highly recommend! The beef short rib was especially stand-out, cooked beautifully and so flavourful.
5 course tasting menu with volcanic wine flight: the restaurant was half empty, in the back of a rather bland hotel. The feeling was much more hotel than dedicated restaurant. Food was quite nice - but for £90/head (food only) + £85/head for the wine I expect much better. Tastes were decent enough but certainly not exciting. The wine flight was ok, some of it went quite well with the food, some didnt. All delivered with a degree of pretentious nonsense by the staff. I wouldnt go again.
Great dining experience There was some great dishes Food
Amazing experience at this warm and friendly restaurant. Im a big fan of scandinavian food and was excited to try this venue. We loved every course of this exceptional meal and the service was top notch. Highlights for me were the invitation in to the kitchen for one of the courses, to really experience how they are cooking the amazing food and unashamedly the bread and butter they have hand churned. I had a pescatarian tasting and every dish was sublime, I loved the stories behind the food and we enjoyed every minute. As were not wine drinkers, we ended up ordering cocktails from the fabulous cocktail bar in the hotel and these were also exceptional. Thanks to the whole team for a unique and memorable experience. Dietary restrictions: I had a pescatarian menu.
The food was brilliant but the service was not there. This place does not deserve a Michelin star. The servers had 0 enthusiasm, sounded scripted, banged the plates on the table and spit saliva in the intro on me . I was somewhat able to overlook all of these but on the way out, there was no one waiting at the reception desk for us to pick up our coats. We called someone and he stood there watching my partner struggling to put on her coat. I went to village cafes that was treated better and didnt have to pay £400. The Owner and the Chefs working there are getting cheated on the hard work they put, so I had to let it out.
Went for the Sunday roast and it was amazing!! Loved the unique concept of cooked over an open fire and service is flawless :)
The service was great. The food was adequate.
The food was great but they significantly overcharged us TWICE which left a bit of a bad taste. Once and it would have been ok but twice took away from the magic of the evening. They didn t really provide an excuse the first time., but the second time, they said they d mixed us up with another table. Being that this is their business, staying on top of what each table ordered should not have been an issue. It was not addressed properly so left a disappointing feeling unfortunately for what should have been a special night. Still went for an automatic punchy 13.5% service charge after all that, so that happened.
So disappointed with our experience here on 7/27/24. Service was terrible, we were left for over an hour without anyone checking on us. Water and wine glasses went dry, no one bothered to ask if wed like another glass. The food was fine, but not nearly worth the price point. In the middle of the meal, they gave us a huge slab of sourdough bread, which was pretty insulting. The portions were so small (even by tasting menu standards) and it was so transparent that they were just trying to fill us up with cheap bread. I think our server just forgot about us, and when we finally flagged him down, he was not at all apologetic about the lack of service.
It s was really Great
Ive eaten at a lot of high-end restaurants including three star Michelin but there are very few I would re-visit given the number of new places to try. However Ekstedt at The Yard is one of the few exceptions and definitely in my top three. The food was exceptional and there wasnt a single dish we didnt absolutely love, with each dish offering a unique flavour that we hadnt encountered before. I think my highlight would have to be the Cep Souffle. They even invite you into the kitchen to see one of the snacks being prepared and get a sense of what its like in a wood fired kitchen. The ambience is dark and moody which is perfect until you try and read the menu. Thankfully, the attentive staff quickly provided us with portable table lamps. Every member of the team was not only knowledgeable but also genuinely friendly, striking the perfect balance in pacing our meal throughout the evening. Cant wait to go back
One of the best gourmet restaurants I have been to. The place is sublime, the service extremely attentive and the dishes EXCELLENT. I recommend with my eyes closed
One of my favourite dining experiences ever. The food was incredible.
Excellent food and service, very high quality ingredients and great concept
A must! Excellent cuisine, based on cooking over a wood fire, with smoky, woody flavors. A wonderful wine list. A wonderful discovery! Very warm service. Dont miss the signature oyster, prepared in front of the guest in the open kitchen: a spectacle for the eye before the taste pleasure. In addition, the restaurant is in a prestigious place steeped in history: Scotland Yard, the former headquarters of British law enforcement. Some windows show related antiques.
Great food, great staff. Go there.
Incredible food. As good as i have had in London. How the flavour from the flames enhance incredible produce is remarkable. Eksdet really needs to be more well known. We had the 9 course tasting menu. Incredible signature oyster dish, the most delicate smoked scallops, the lighter seabass, perfect wagyu steak and the remarkable mushroom souffle. Cant wait to revisit
Went for the six course tasting meal - every dish was delicious and well thought out, with attentive and polite service. Inviting guests to view how the dish was made was a really nice touch that brought the holistic experience togeyher
Amazing, very thoughtful. Worth every penny.
The restaurants six-course tasting menu promised fresh, innovative dishes, and the food mostly delivered. The chefs creativity shone through, and we eagerly anticipated each bite. However, the service was seriously lacking. We waited over an hour for the first course, and after prompting the staff, dishes flew out at a breakneck pace, with servers pushing aside previous courses for new ones. It was a culinary relay race. At one point, we had two wines on the table, as servers forgot we hadnt finished our previous pairing. The dessert wine pairing was a head-scratcher the sweet dessert and wine just didnt match, and the wine arrived ten minutes after the dessert. The restaurant has potential, but the service needs work. Compared to others in its class, it falls short in overall experience. We left feeling like wed been on a rollercoaster highs from the delicious food, but lows from the inconsistent service. If they can improve their service, they could be a contender. For now, its great food, really disappointing service.
Enchanting six course meal with vulcanic wine pairing. Absolutely loved eating here.
Lovely experience, oysters were absolutely delicious, would love to come back!
Unique flavours and every course was very very well prepared. Atmosphere is great. There was some unnecessary confusion several times but overall the service was ok. Heads up that charging the bill to your room results in a 20% discount, which I only discovered by accident. In my case this meant I almost paid £100 more.
Great experience with an exceptional customer service, they take you to the kitchen to witness the natural creativity of food which is a unique touch. The non alcoholic cocktails are insanely delicious.
It has been a long time since I have been blown away by a meal. I loved the smokey flavours, the savoury sauces and the sweets at the end. Divine! Will definitely be coming back with friends for more. Dietary restrictions: I had one guest who was gluten free and they accommodated this perfectly. So delicious.
Fabulous Best taking menu we have had. Knocked Lenclume off our top spot. Matched wines were superb. Yes its expensive but so worth it. Food
Amazing experience from start to finish. The service is simply perfect and the tasting menu with amazing flavors. A very well structured wine list with a wide selection of wines from all over the world. Cant wait to come back for the next seasoned menu
The food was absolutely exquisite, the setting was beautiful and the staff were fantastic. My only constructive feedback is that having paid £300 per head for the 6 course tasting menu, all six of us left hungry. The portions are miniscule. The starters and mains should be doubled in size.
We spent Xmas eve there ! Great food and service
Excellent creatively prepared and presented dishes. We went with the prix fixe dinner and got to watch the chef prepare our first course in the wood stove kitchen.
Lovely setup and impeccable service. Most of food was amazing (we really enjoyed every dish of the tasting menu), however we found the desserts to unbalance the tasting experience. After the pre-dessert (an amazing pine sorbet), we received a huge portion of chocolate dessert which was followed by more chocolate pralines making the end of the dinner too chocolate heavy an making us almost forget the previous experienced flavours. Having said that, we had a lovely evening and will surely return to try more from the chef s unique cuisine.
Best courses of the tasting menu were the fish dish and the oyster dish which were really delicious. Other than that, the rest of the courses were generally average in terms of taste and ingredients used. Overall its interesting to try once, would be better to go ala carte.
Absolutely loved this place. Service was attentive, food outstanding (taster, 9 course) and when it all boiled down to it, very reasonably priced. Beer selection was spot on and the other half enjoyed her champagne. Definitely a place we will return to.
great food amazing wines. have to try tasting menu
The food is unbelievable! You must go. The staff is incredibly charming and make you feel at home. Took one star off because there was quite a wait between courses. That said, I would definitely go back.
Great experience on xmas eve. Excellent menu, service and ambience.
had the tasting menu, which was excellent experience - a number of the items had a distinctive smokiness, which was delicious
There is so much potential, but does fall short. I tried the nine course tasting menu, and had some hit and misses. The staff were great, but the wait time between dishes should be improved. My reservation was at 7, and by the time I left the table after receiving the bill was 10:40. The dried venison was abit gamey, and the mackerel dish was too fishy, even from a person who loves sushi. Both were difficult to finish. The highlights were the monkfish and venison dishes. The venison was definitely the highlight. The soufflé was undercooked and wet, and would have been much much better. The non alcoholic beverage pairing was great. I would come back and try again, but there is room for improvement.
I have no words to explain how delicious and tasteful the food at this restaurant is. Flavours are out of this world! Go and try it by yourselves!
Wonderful experience
Interesting food and excellent wine. But the service was odd on a number of occasions: Can we have a spoon please? No you don t need a spoon. Etc. Unexpected when you re paying £100s per person. It made us feel uneasy, but we laughed about it after leaving!
Great ambience and friendly service. Food is underwhelming for the price it charges. There are better options in London.
Everything was spectacular; the ambience, the services and - of course - the incredible food. The care and attention taken when dealing with dietary restrictions was above and beyond with the chef making sure the substitute meal was as close to the original as possible. Highly recommend this restaurant, especially for a special occasion
Fabulous restaurant with some exceptional dishes and attentive service. Went for my birthday and had such a pleasant evening! The food was fantastic and really subverted my expectations. I love Smokey food in general and the food at Ekstedt does it properly. Nothing over the top, just perfect smoking that compliments the food in the right way. One of my highlights was the celeriac dish which had smoked celariac. OMG. Still thinking of that dish. We also met Therese who is now head chef and she is such a genuine, lovely person. Please visit this cosy slice of Sweden - it won t dissapoint!
A wonderful experience. Cooking over fire with amazing skills to provide a subtle and totally different flavour experience. Excellent attention and care taken by all the staff. The wine pairings worked really well.
Perfection with just the right amount of smoke
Wonderful experience and the staff were so knowledgeable and friendly. Recommend the tasting menu with wine matching
Great restaurant with innovative kitchen. Loved the cooked oysters in the kitchen. Fantastic flavour! Highly recommend!
Great setting and atmosphere in this restaurant. Staff very attentive and enthusiastic to explain all the food to you. Each course we had was really excellent. My favourites were the turbot and scallop but everything we had was great. Wine flight with the tasting menu was also really good.
Excellent food, impeccable wine selection.
There are some wonderful dishes here, and some very good wines too. Some dishes reminded me of delicious dishes Ive had in Sweden, Norway and Iceland. However at this price point its appropriate to be more critical. So I could say that Ive had better, but the truth is they have plenty of dishes that are so good you would eat them until you explode. Not all of them though. Sadly they had some glitches on the night I was there, like forgetting we asked for a vegetarian option instead of the sirloin. Hence the lower scores.
Great restaurant with interesting smoked and firecooked food. The signature oysters alone make it worth a visit. The open kitchen and fire oven added to the already good ambiance of the place.
If you want 5* Swedish cuisine, an unmatched wine pairing and superb service - definitely come here. The best meal out in London in years, a truly special and unique experience with the highest quality ingridients!
This was the best meal we had on our 7-day trip to London. Spent a lot of time researching places online before our trip. So glad we went to Ekstedt. The food was great. The wine pairing was spot on. They had just started doing a thematic wine pairing and ours was a Volcanic Pairing (wines from volcanic soils). Really enjoyed the story of each vineyard as well as the wine. The 6 course tasting menu was equally amazing.
We did the 6 course tasting menu. Everything was delicious especially the lobster and the wagging steak. Desert was a little underwhelming but overall and exceptional restaurant.
My recent dining experience at Ekstedt was simply outstanding. The course menu presented a series of beautifully plated and incredibly flavorful dishes that left a lasting impression. Each bite was a symphony of taste and texture, showcasing the chefs expertise. The wine selection was impeccable, and the sommeliers guidance added a perfect touch to the meal. The servers were attentive, providing detailed descriptions of the dishes and ensuring a delightful dining experience. Ekstedt truly exceeded my expectations, offering a combination of exceptional cuisine, a well-curated wine list, and attentive service. I highly recommend Ekstedt to anyone seeking a memorable and gastronomically satisfying experience. Jonny was best server
Bad bad bad
Truely a one of a kind experience not be missed! My only regret is that I wish we had given ourselves more time to stay and savor it. Unfortunately I booked Wicked on the same night which didn t allow us time for dessert. This is a mistake I shall never make again but my son said his steak was totally worth missing the first 20 minutes of the show. Can t wait to come back and do the entire 6 course tasting menu. Don t miss this place if you re in London but allow yourself plenty of time to enjoy it properly. Totally worth every minute!
Best fine-dining experience ever! amazing food and service.
The restaurant is poorly maintained and unhelpful
Great Venue, we had the tasting menu, the food was decadent and well balanced texture and flavours. The service was okay, they felt a little bit stretched, the sommelier didn t talk through the wine list, and just generally not as attentive as you would except for the money charged. My only other two criticisms 1) we booked the 8.30pm slot and the whole meal just felt rushed as the place closes at 9pm! So by our last course it felt like they were folding up the tables 2) I am Pescatarian and my Partner is Vegan and the cost of the tasting menu was the same as the full menu even though the Wagyu and the oysters were replaced by jersey royals and aubergine making it less good in terms of value for money. To end on a positive the Brezzo Barolo wine was amazing! Vegetarian options: Vegan and vegetarian options
So first; yes we are those foodies that travel to places and plan days based on restaurants. The food here did not disappoint. This is not typical food; if you re a foodie that likes typical food (pasta, bread, fish, meat), cooked in a typical way, then this will not be a place for you. When a chef creates a menu based on ingredients they are passionate about cooked in a way they love, you get a restaurant like Ekstedt. It s hard to give a review on a chefs heart; but trust me, if you want your palette to be challenged and to experience something outside the box then eat here. If you just want food, cooked and good services, maybe this isn t for you. I m not a fan of certain ingredients; but I ate everything because that s what you do at a place like Ekstedt and it was delicious. The ambiance is amazing, service top notch, tasting menu and wine pairing outstanding. Can t wait to be back in London for another go!
An amazing tasting menu with a perfect wine flight (we had the emerging wines). Great staff including the brilliant sommelier. The oyster was without doubt one of the best dishes Ive ever tasted. Congratulations to all involved to produce such amazing food with the most humble but perfectly sourced ingredients.
Nice
Great place, amazing food!
Extremely, extremely delicious.
Unique dishes with very original flavor combinations. We ordered the 6 courses and they were all satisfying. Excellent wine list and knowledgeable sommelier. Excellent service. Not exactly cheap but adequate cost.
A truly surprising gastronomic experience. Exciting and innovative.
A very interesting dining experience! The taster menu with the wine pairing was inspired. Each course provided a jolt to the senses and was beautifully presented. The staff were knowledgeable and very attentive and a tour of the open kitchen at the end, made it a memorable evening.
Excellent food and wonderful service. I will be back.
Beautiful experience at Ekstedt. Sensational food driven by the taste of charcoal and fire. The restaurant has an exquisite team of professionals, they introduced us to the most delicious wines we have ever tried.
A great new addition to the london restaurant scene. Innovative, creative and excellently planned. A real treat and culinary experience. The wine was superbly paired (we had the volcanic printing) and it was and excellent selection which complimented the food brilliantly. The service was also superb with the waiters and most importantly the sommelier and I think restaurant manager, were also attentive and really knew their stuff! Most impressed and will return with friends.
Very good service and friendly staff
A cozy and rustic cafe with a focus on homemade comfort food. The hearty soups and sandwiches were a perfect choice for a satisfying lunch. The friendly staff and inviting atmosphere made it a favorite spot for a relaxing meal.
Delicious food. I especially enjoyed the woodruff cream dessert and the leek course. All made with no electricity or gas, just an open fire. Really attentive, professional service too - and didnt even have to wait around ages for the bill!
Engaged staff, service minded, proud and nice people!
The food was simply a piece of art. Each course gave a flavor profile so profound and unique. Highly recommend.
Wow - this is such a fantastic restaurant; the tasting menu was a fabulous experience. We tried the wine pairings, and had a different menu each. The waiters, sommelier and chefs were so friendly and instructive. We loved the special touches such as having one dish in the kitchen, the detailed explanations on the wine pairings, and being able to see the sourdough inside the ovens. It s a very special treat!
Good food. Nice atmosphere.
Amazing meal with my 2 fantastic girlfriends. We meet once a year and do something special. And boy, was this special.
Absolutely delicious food, though very expensive. Service was generally great but loses a point since the waiter was a bit sniffy about the fact we ordered a la carte and not the tasting menu. Kid-friendliness: Not kid friendly.
Chose tasting menu with 6 dishes where all were delicious! Very good service and we also got to go into the kitchen and see them flambé oysters. Expensive but definitely worth it!
In a city where the selection of restaurants grows bigger every day, it is always a nice surprise to find something unique. The exceptional and friendly staff ensured our evening was spotless. We had the tasting menu, which is always a great choice if you want to experience the best that can come out of the kitchen and the wine selection could not have been paired better! I am definitely telling more people about this!
Unique dining experience. Very highly recommended. We had the set menu paired with volcanic wine. Very original and super tasty combinations of flavours. The vibe at the restaurant also very nice and the service quick, discreet and joyful.
Ekstedt at the yard is a hidden gem located in central London. I recently had the pleasure of dining there with my husband, and we were absolutely blown away by the experience. We did the volcanic pairing menu, and it was truly brilliant. The food was creative, and incredibly delicious. The service was also impeccable and the sommelier was very knowledgeable and friendly. The atmosphere at Nicola Eksted is really warm and makes for a truly special dining experience. I highly recommend it to anyone.
Nice and fresh food
A special menu from a collaboration with Hoppers. Scandinavia & Sri Lankan.
It was terrific, and I was impressed with every dish. I recommend going for the six-course set menu. I went for the three-course menu, and I regretted it, as everything was so delicious. The duck was the best duck Ive ever had. I am looking forward to coming back soon. Food
Been here with a group of 12. Only around 3-4 more tables have been occupied that evening. But it felt that the staff was very busy and the 4-course menu took 4 hours. Dessert was served at 11pm, by starting at 7:30. Don t know what kept them absence from our table. All in all not a good performance. Food was good.
One of the most exquisite meals Ive had the pleasure to enjoy. When your entire meal has been prepared with utmost care and the finest ingredients, and without gas or electricity. Just cooked or smoked over an open fire, pickled or fermented. It has to be experienced.
Fantastic birthday meal at this insanely good fine dining restaurant. Absolute privilege to sit at the chefs table to see the amazing skill and hard work that goes in to the food that is served. Thankyou to all staff for a truly unforgettable experience . Food : 5/5
WOW is the right word! Amazing experience with very delicious food. If you want an experience with creative dishes and very delicious food, you better come here. Honestly if there is a score higher than 5, I would ve given it to them. Great chef great staff.
Everything is tastes not good.Too sour!!
Simply Excellent. Would recommend
The 7 course tasting menu isn t just a meal, it s a wonderful sensory experience! Staff are super lovely too Only thing is that it s pretty expensive! £170 pp
A bit rubbish really. We have been to many Michelin star restaurants in London (and around the world) and Ekstedt is unfortunately way below a lot places, despite also being a lot more expensive than some. It was bit of a hot mess - we are not sure that the waiting staff were trained (we could hear plates being smashed and glasses being dropped and smashed every 10 minutes) - our glasses weren t refilled and we had to waive multiple times to get the waiters attention. I ll defend the fact that the food is great - interesting flavours, great quality ingredients (the beef main and ceps desserts were outstanding) but unfortunately it s all let down by the pub atmosphere (loud 80s music, strange lighting, poor service). This review might have been a four star if the price was 60% cheaper but if you pay £250 a head (which as I say up front we re not averse to), then you would expect significantly better. When you pay £200pp +, the food is important but you also expect great service and a nice ambiance and that s where Ekstedt is lacking. London has so many outstanding places to offer and unfortunately we are very unlikely to return to Ekstedt.
Really enjoyed our meal at Ekstedt. The dining room and the staff were all relaxed and welcoming. The food was exciting and like nothing Ive eaten before (might have had a little cry eating the blood pudding - that was superb!). The icing on the cake for me was that they do a non alcoholic drinks flight with the meal so I also had a fun different glass turn up with every course - bravo to that!
Excellent food, cool atmosphere, and spectacular service.
good service
Innovative cuisine in a beautiful setting. Very well-designed menus, delicious flavours, a wonderful experience.
I visited for a dinner for 2 with my wife, we had the full tasting menu and wines to match. It was superb, I had never had woodruff previously and that was excellent in a dessert. The pre-starters were very novel and with suprise ingredients. It was a lovely evening in a nice intimate dining room.
I was invited to a dinner at this amazing hotel. I dont know what I ate but the flavour, the aesthetic display of the food, the atmosphere and the amazing staff. It was brilliant! This is a restaurant to experience something different and unusual. We were in food heaven and even though I didnt drink wine, my company raved about the wine that was paired for each dish. When you do visit this restaurant keep an open mind about what you can eat. The only thing I didnt like was one of the desserts which was a very peculiar taste.
Loved the six course tasting menu and wine pairing. Service and atmosphere was spot on. Well done!
Absolutely fantastic! A food experience we will keep with us for a long time.
Absolutely faultless from the staff to the food. Wood fire flavours like you have never tasted. Get there early and makes sure to have a few cocktails at 40 elephants.
Food is very good, but everything is so slow. This is why they cannot get even a single star. I hope they would improve pretty soon.
We came to London from America for our 25th wedding anniversary and the food in this city did not disappoint. I went online and searched for the best places to eat and Ekstedt popped up. I was immediately drawn into the creativity of their menu. It looked absolutely delicious. When we walked in we were mesmerized by the gorgeous dried floral wreath chandelier, the warm ambiance of light mixed with dark and light wood elements and the wood burning oven. The kitchen was open and hospitable. We were invited back to watch them prepare their famous oyster dish and they were AMAZING. The crunch of tart green apple on a warm fresh oyster YUM. The staff was hospitable and generous. The food blew us away on every level. It was beautifully presented and tasted so interesting and lovely. We decided to go all out and do all 7 courses. We were definitely full but didn t want to miss out by only trying 3. We had great wine and coffee as well. Ekstedt made our last night in London so special. We didn t want to leave. Well done!! We will be back soon!!
Had agreed with the restaurant that they would do their set menu in 1.5hrs in order to attend a play at 1930. Our reservation was from1730. Sadly the dessert and cheese course still hadnt arrived by 1915 and we had to pay and leave without the final course. The food itself was v novel. Some dishes worked v well but felt a little insubstantial , ordered more food but ultimately left feeling hungry which shouldnt be the case for 200gbp per head !!
Loved the whole experience. Went for the 3 course tasting & added the scallops as an extra 4th dish (was divine!). Our favorites included the fish starter, scallops, fish main, meat main, creative take on a baked Alaska (with fire lit aquavit). If I had to be nitpicky 1 less favorite dish, it would be the butter that comes with the bread - solely because theres so many interesting flavors & smokeyness in all the other dishes, it felt like an opportunity to really be creative alongside their homemade bread (btw its served mid-way through the meal - which is a nice little change from most other restaurants). Honestly a lovely meal & worth the price! I left feeling satisfied well into the afternoon the following day :) We also had the pleasure of chatting with the mgr, David, who was very lovely! He was the best of all the staff - who, for the quality of restaurant, all seemed quite green & novice (couldnt tell us ingredients or answer simple wine questions). Ill chalk that up to most of them being new though.
Different style love the place! Guess this is about slowing down since most dishes uses the beautiful giant oven. For fun I thought I show you the WC they are amazing!!!
Please know that the entire staff was a very important part of this experience! We chose the three course meal versus a five course offering and this was plenty. The meal was very eclectic and really hit lots of places on our taste buds. We also had a wine paring with the meal and so it was a perfect match. The entire experience was phenomenal. What a delightful dinner... possibly one of the best I have had in my life.
Fantastic service. Delicious and unique food. The beet root app is amazing.
Ate salmon for starters then goose so chewy that it could be cut with a paring knife it was very chewy but the taste was good for dessert cheese that is melted in a mold with hard bread I was expecting a tasty cheese but this was tasteless I expected better .
Very nice place and the staff was sweet, but the restaurant gave me food poisoning. And the food took a long time to come
Worthy of a Michelin star. We felt this was one of the top 3 restaurants we ve ever eaten at. I ve also never seen a kitchen staff so calm, smiling with one another, while simultaneously making amazing food. Definitely worth *multiple* visits.
The whole family came for dinner. We chose a test menu and wine support. Polite and attentive staff. Open kitchen. You can clearly see how they cook. Lots of fire in cooking. We got the impression that the service was a little slower than elsewhere. We left a little hungry :-)
The most amazing dinning experience, par excellence. Staff & Food beyond reproach. Cannot recommend highly enough. Deep Joy xoxo
Such a great evening with fantastic food and an amazing atmosphere. I have always recommended Ekstedt in Stockholm, now I do the same for London.
A truly spectacular meal. Everything was top notch. Atmos, service, quality of the food. I didnt want the meal to end. Would absolutely go back when they serve up next next season. Thank you Team Ekstedt
An incredibly memorable dining experience. Delicious food with friendly and attentive staff is always a winning combination but this went well beyond that, with some of the most unique flavour combinations Ive ever had and enthusiastic staff who seemed as excited about us trying the food as we were. One of the hallmarks of a great meal is when its genuinely difficult to choose a favourite course because it was all so amazing, and we came away thinking exactly that. Plus we even got to meet the man himself! Thanks to the whole team for an evening that will live long in the memory.
Went last night for dinner, and I was very excited as my boyfriend had been to the one in Stockholm and had loved it. I don t eat meat, and the tasting menu online only shows meat options for a main, so we called them a few days before, and they said they also offered an à la carte menu so that I could choose a different main, so sounded all good. When we get there, the maître greets us and shows us to our table, and tells us we can only choose between a 3 courses tasting menu or a 7 courses one. We pick the 3 courses one with wine pairing as we were meant to go to the pub afterwards with some friends, and my bf who had previously done the 7 courses one said that one took over 2.5hrs. As soon as we announce that we ll go for the 3 courses meal, waiters start treating us differently. They were going around explaining concepts of the dishes and asking questions to the other guests (we were seated in between two tables who chose the 7 courses menu), refilling their wine glasses, with the head chef going over to chat with them, while we were being ignored. They even asked the other 2 tables whether they d like to see the kitchen and give them a tour, but they don t ask us. My boyfriend had seen it in Stockholm and had talked about it, so we decide to ask ourselves, but we get told that they re cleaning so they re not sure if we can see it and then they just don t let us know anything about it anymore. When we get our mains, my boyfriend gets the meat, and I get 3 leaves of cabbage with parsnip purée. It was delicious, but it was literally just cabbage (even if I had said that I ate fish). By the end of the meal, we re not very impressed and we kind of just want to leave, so we ask for the bill. Yet again, we were treated as B class customers and get left there waiting for the bill for over 30 minutes, to the point that we had to ask twice more. We ended up finishing at the same time as the tables next to us, even if they were doing the 7 courses meal. Needless to say, we also missed our appointment with our friends afterwards cause we were too late. Overall, the restaurant is really pretty and the food is nice, but the customer service is so poor that it really ruins the whole experience. Shame considering how impressed my boyfriend had been of their Stockholm restaurant. I found it very impolite being treated different just cause we chose a different menu: in my opinion a customer should receive the same experience whether they re spending £5 or £500, but that s clearly not the case at Ekstedt London.
The place is beautiful and somehow still simple. The music is different and perfect for the restaurant atmosphere. Service is fantastic, personal and very welcoming. Best of all, the food is divine! The 7 course taster menu is not cheap, but definitely worth it. For some of the dishes you even get invited to the kitchen to see how the food is prepared and it is not what you would expect either. Took no photos - did not want to be distracted!
Cracking meal, service was amazing, as were the wines. Some great tasting and interesting dishes.
The staff, the ambiance, the food, were all top notch. I went for the 3 course meal and what an absolute delightful and extremely delicious course. The sea bass ceviche with mint and juniper oil, not sure its on the menu, but this absolutely blew my taste buds away, i loved it. Im not a huge game meat lover, but again, the dishes were yummy, yes yummy. I rarely do reviews, but i just had to in this case. I highly recommend for a date, family occasion, business meeting and even large group settings. I will 100% be going back. Thank you to Ekstedt for your hospitality and beyond delicious food.
The 7 course tasting menu was fantastic and the knowledge of our waiter, Tristan, was excellent. We really enjoyed learning about both the ingredients but also the cooking techniques used at Ekstedt. The atmosphere is cosy, decor well thought out and service attentive but not fussy.
Gorgeous tasting menu and pairings
Probably the best meal Ive had in London in over a decade. They did amazing things with smoke, mushrooms, lingonberries, duck and oysters. The oysters cooked with beef fat on the flambeau looked impressive, but also gave the dish multiple layers and reminded me of asado. The mallard was perfect and worked like magic with the mushrooms, caramelised cream and truffle. And the Cep soufflé! Id never tasted anything like it. They also have a non-alcoholic pairing that really complemented the dishes which was a big bonus.
What I respect about the cooking here is that they dont shy away from ingredients other fine dining venues would consider mundane - theres potato, butter, fat, bread - all used expertly exactly as needed to create an indulgent, elegant, immaculate experience. Also enjoyed the laid back but professional service. We will definitely be back
Amazing experience, incredible service. Tristan really look after us. really well put together dishes. Probably one of my favourite meal I have this year. Would highly recommend.
Brilliant food and service!
Amazing experience from start to finish. Beautiful food with a unique tasting menu!
Love it! Great food, great customer service!
Fab meal, 7 course tasting menu was exceptional, the dessert was not for is, but the cooking of it was excellent. Have to mention the wine pairings, the sommelier was suitably snooty, but paired the drinks perfectly. Service whilst very good and friendly was a tad lacking, in fairness in these times it is very tough to find the hospitality staff. Definitely will return, no hesitation in recommending
Definitely one of the best restaurants in London at the moment. Food were sublime.
