I visited in mid-August and contacted them that evening to make a reservation. However, the telephone response itself was dry. When you enter, you are first asked if you would like to have dinner or have a drink at the bar. Overall it was delicious and the atmosphere was good. They are also very particular about tableware and interior design. The waiters, both male and female, are very formal and polite, but also a bit pressured. The category is Spanish food, but it feels more like Mediterranean food. Although it looks greasy, the tomato toast is surprisingly delicious. The ajillo was classic, and the tuna steak was seared and delicious. Salami also comes in various flavors. The non-alcoholic cocktails also have a refreshing fruit juice feel.

We found this place through Google and during our stay in London it is where we have eaten the best. Great treatment from the entrance by all the workers. I advise booking as it is very busy even though we went without a reservation and they got us a table.

As you enter the premises you feel the rich traditions of Spanish cuisine, impeccable decor, great tasting food, but most of all the service from the moment you enter the doorway,you know you are in a very special place , and thank you Mario for a great evening, Gazie

Awful! The service is terrible, they accept appointments from far-right political events... All afternoon waiting to be served and delaying the rest of the service for other diners. On top of that, the food was cold, the service was quickly inattentive and the atmosphere was bad. I came here with some friends for an early dinner. Service was attentive and the restaurant is tastefully decorated. We ordered a plate of cured meats (without bread) and a separate plate of cheese because they couldn t do a mixed platter. This was followed by (7) prawns in garlic sauce and huevos rotos (fried eggs, chips and Iberico ham), washed by a bottle of Muga wine (£67). We shared a slice of cheesecake for dessert. The food was delicious and paired nicely with the wine. They come around with the bread basket and ask if you d like some (and a top up) Having ordered dishes that are commonly accompanied by bread, we didn t think anything of it until the bill arrived. The bill arrived and that s when we found out that EACH piece of bread costs £1.40! The menu does not state anywhere that the bread would be charged that extortionate price. Considering we didn t order that many dishes, the prices are extortionate. Go there if you have excessive money to burn but there are better places with nicer food and wine that is better priced elsewhere.

Bad- bad service, slow to take drinks orders- cocktail arrived well after the first course. Waiter who didn t understand orders. If you have Monkfish on the menu as a first course and a main course surely you check which the client wants and don t just deliver a first course of deep fried monkfish with mayonnaise as a main without asking . I received an apology but the waiter s English was so bad I couldn t understand what he was saying. .A business dinner focussing on the food and service and your guests commenting on it being bad is not good

Had been recommend this restaurant for a while I have to say I was so impressed from the very start. The food and wine was the best quality I ve had in a long time. In particular Eduardo was excellent, his attention to detail in service, his recommendations and communication was top tier. Always done with a genuine smile. Staff are excellent, you are well looked after but its not intrusive. Food is amazing. Nothing we had was not great or beautifully tasty. Fresh and full of natural flavour. The venue is both grande and cosy. Great for special occasions and cosy relaxed dinner.

We were refused service on Monday Mar 25. We, a party of 4 adults and a toddler, entered around 9pm for dinner and asked to see a menu. The hostess promptly handed us one and told us that the kitchen closes at 930. We had plenty of time, we thought. We decided to eat and asked to be seated. She steps back, whispers something to her colleague/boss, he whispers back, she comes back and tells us they cannot serve us because they don t allow kids under 12. We were obviously surprised because I had been holding my toddler in my arms when we entered and they knew very well that we plan to eat with the baby when they handed us the menu and told us kitchen hours. Mind you, there s nothing on their door that forbids kids under 12 from eating there. They just made it up on the spot. For some reason, after that little conference with her colleague, they deny us service and blame it on the kid. Although I do wonder if it was about the kid. A quick scan of the patrons in the restaurant I couldn t help but notice there was not a single non-white patron. I m not white, so maybe they thought it will cramp their style? Or maybe it was the toddler and they didn t like the idea of the (half white) toddler in the middle of these well dressed financiers and bankers. Either way, we were humiliated in front of everyone, and were refused service. As international tourists visiting London, this severely soured our experience. I plan to file an official discrimination complaint with the city of London after my trip. In the meantime, I would not recommend this establishment.

Undoubtedly one of the best restaurants in the city of London. Amazing food quality and outstanding service led by Juan, David and the rest of the team. Certainly no need to fly to Spain unless you want a warmer weather. Everything else you need is there except better.

If you are craving Spanish food, this is one of the restaurants you should visit. Very good quality of dishes and good wine list. The staff is lovely at all times. It should be noted that it is better to make a reservation because it is usually full at all hours.

Where to start??? An 11 out of 10. Due to our time in London these days as Spaniards, we have come to eat in Hispania and there are no words to describe our experience. First of all the service, incredible, attentive, helpful, all the waiters but especially Pablo our waiter. The food, everything perfect , it seems like we were in Spain, something to be appreciated, authentic Spanish/Asturian cuisine with quality products and it shows!!!! Thanks to the Hispania team for bringing a little piece of our land to London.

Sorry to say but a disappointing evening at Hispania last night which traditionally is so good. They normally cope well despite being busy but last night the service was too slow and the food unusually and unexpectedly poor.

I come from Asturias and the menu is totally lazy for the price. The Asturian bean stew barely comes with one slice of chorizo and morcilla when we get a plate with the meat aside or whole/half portions of the meat. The produce is excellent but the chorizo was not extraordinary. The dessert was fine but again not out of the ordinary. Higher talent and innovative needs to be engaged to develop regular customers. The atmosphere is fine but the waiters are all concentrated in the bar area whilst the room next did not have any at hand.

Had dinner with friends on a Tuesday night. The place was buzzing and lively. The staff were very friendly and the service excellent. The food was delicious. Would be very happy to go again.

Food was... Not hot enough. Tasty but had been left way too long on the pass. The wine was exceptional and the sommelier the star of service.

We went for my son and daughter-in-laws wedding and we loved it! The place is wonderful, right in front of the Bank of England, the food is delicious, it shows that they only use top quality ingredients. For me it has become my favorite Spanish restaurant in London, a must visit every time we return.

It s a shame we had a negative experience here as the restaurant itself is beautiful and we were really looking forward to it. We walked into a packed restaurant and were asked to sit on a bar table with bar stools which was extremely uncomfortable and unable to fit many plates of food on. Food was extremely overpriced, the cost of 2 drinks and 2 starters was the amount I would expect to pay for a 3 course meal for two.

If you like Spanish cuisine, here it is with a glass of good rioja right in the heart of the City. I always find the staff friendly and helpful and am pleased to drop in for lunch or evening plate of jamon from time to time. It can get quite busy sometimes.

Service dreadful, waiting to order a drink whilst being ignored by staff over and over. Finally decided to leave and the floor manager made the excuse that we re about to get busy , baffling and poor excuse.

Really sad about the experience at Hispania. We had booked for dinner and initially it seemed promising. They took our coats and welcomed us into the restaurant, sadly, it only went downhill from there. We were waiting to get served for half an hour and no one acknowledged us. All the waiters walked right past our table even when we tried to get their attention. There was absolutely no service provided to us that evening. Once we asked for our coats the floor manager came to us and said we re very busy . I pointed out that half the tables were empty, his response was we re about to get busy . It was such a disappointment to our evening. They cancelled our OpenTable booking after we left so that we couldn t write a review, I thought that was incredibly cheeky.

Without a doubt, one of most authentic, welcoming and best decorated Spanish restaurants in London. It is always excellent.

Great food, but terrible and slow service. Waitress pretty much ignored us (2 ethnic women) - although was very attentive to the white clientele around us - so had to go to the bar to place our order. I would give zero stars but the food - really very delicious - partially redeemed this place. That said, no way would I recommend or return to this place.

FAV RESTAURANT IN THE CITY Hispania not only has a lovely environment and an amazing quality of food but also has a great fast and professional service that makes you feel special during the whole time. I would definitely recommend it for anyone who wants to enjoy an upscale experience for a very reasonable price. Amazing!!

A five star that deserves 10. The attention of David, Pedro and staff, without comparison. My wife made a dinner reservation for my birthday, and the menu left us impressed. It is impossible not to want to try absolutely everything, in the end we are inclined to try the croquettes and the crispy cheese, the beef cheeks. And I finished with a rice pudding from Gerardos house that was wonderful. A memory and the feeling of being in Spain. A separate point also, a very cordial and grateful greeting to our friend from Barranquilla, who we did not ask his name! Very well done and highly recommended. With eyes closed. We will return!

Impeccable food, attentive staff: all round a really nice place for a meal

As someone who works in the City, I usually go to Hispania pretty often. As a Spaniard living in London, Im very picky when I see anyone claiming to offer good Spanish food or the so trite tapas. Well, Hispania is one of the few ones holding their own: the jamon or mushroom croquetas, the garlic prawns, the jamon, the padron peppers, the black rice... but on top of that, I have to mention the service, the treatment (David and Juan will make sure everything is absolutely spot on for you) and the vibe of the place. It does make you feel like back in Spain, with such warm atmosphere so difficult to find in other places of the city going for that fancy vibe so in vogue these days (also good, but not that special in my eyes). All my clients have always fallen in love with the place. Absolutely recommended. ps: they have recently added an option for Kosher catering food that some of my Jewish colleagues have taken advantage of, for those requiring such option.

Hispania has amazing food and great service. It s the perfect place for sharing Tapas with friends or a business lunch. Beautiful space and warm atmosphere; not to mention the wine selection!! Vegetarian options: Delicious mushroom croquetas, padron peppers and cheese pastries

I should have taken more photos of our food! It was all so good, I didnt make time to stop for pictures. Anthony was our server and he was excellent! Totally made our entire experience. His recommendations were amazing. Sangria cava, croquetas Jamon, ensaladillla rusa, gamba aljillo and the pork chimichurri all knocked it out of the park. We love tapas. We will talk about this meal and our amazing server for decades!

Used to be such good quality food and service. Went last week and I swear the food could have been from Iceland. It s was so poor it was almost comical. We thought we were part of a weird prank. Every course was awful

Spanish restaurant in the center of the city, quiet environment, spacious location and well furnished in Spanish style. Friendly and attentive service, the waiters speak both English and Spanish. Spanish cuisine with really good traditional dishes, it really feels like eating in Spain. You cant go wrong :) I used to eat here regularly, pre-CoViD, and have always loved the food, wines, staff and ambiance. This was my first visit in years ... I was very pleased to see that the company, menu, execution, service and ambience have all survived the ravages of COVID lockdown - although the front of house staff have pretty much all changed (my best wishes to my old friends, wherever you are!). I notice they are hiring for a CdC - I hope that goes well; meantime, the kitchen seemed to be delivering perfectly for my visit! Although Im not sure they mention it anywhere, the menu, though diverse, has an Asturian bent; the executive chef is Asturian, and well accoladed - Sr. Marcos Morán. The building is ideal (from the diners perspective) - high-ceiling, spacious, cool stone decor - and the ambiance perfect - just as I remembered it. The food is gorgeous and authentic - I found nothing to question here. Pimientos de Padrón, unusually for the UK - both in my experience, and that of a Gallician friend - included a representative number of picante examples; from one plate, I had two moderately hot and one real scorcher - as hot as I ever recall having. Everything from here-on-down, I think, is Asturian in origin, style or variance (or maybe regionally undifferentiated for the croquettas?) Sr. Mórans (Casa Gerardo, q.v.) bocadillos crujientes de quesos - very light filo pastry sandwiches of slightly sweet creamed cheeses - I think, best interleaved with other dishes, but also a great relevé or finalé - were exactly as I recall; this is not a belly-filler, but a dainty palate-pleaser. Hmm... they may pair well with a Manzanilla as an aperativo. Croquetas de setas - inch-cubed fried cubes of wild-mushroom-béchamel awesomeness, in a fragile crust, are both delightful, and filling. The calamares were about as good as Ive found in the UK - I am very picky with this simple dish, but I would still come back here for them. There too are cold tapas and main dishes - and I dont recall ever trying anything here that didnt impress. There are a number of vegetarian-friendly dishes - but this is not primarily vegetarian cuisine. Im not sure how much is vegan-friendly, but I imagine the kitchen is used to accommodating most needs. One word of caution; I found my selection marginally on the salty side by the time I was done - this is exactly as I would expect it, from an authenticity perspective - I ate only tapas, and plenty of it; if you tend to steer clear of salt, talk to your waiter first before digging into a whole table of tapas (in any restaurant!). The rice pudding (arroz con leche) was perfect - not overly-sweet in the body, with the correct smooth texture and hydration, and a beautiful creme-brulée-style caramel cap. This house has fantastic wines at decent prices; if you know what you want, you wont be disappointed; if not, ask for advice, and ... you still wont be disappointed. The classic Bodegas Muga special reserve Rioja by the glass was more than satisfying for me, today, and a beautiful G.B. Palo Cortado was the perfect foil to the rice pudding. Unlike most bars and restaurants, Hispania has a well chosen range of sherries - for starters, mains and desserts. This is not a cheap restaurant, but neither is it expensive for what it is nor for its location. I trust you will enjoy it as much as I do! In case they read this - for last night, my thanks to the front-of-house staff, notably Sres. Luis, Tony, who were appropriately friendly, professional, informative, and attentive (notwithstanding my late arrival, pre-whetted whistle, and my occasional non-deliberate confused attempts to speak some mix of Castilian and South-American Spanish, with maybe some Galego and Italian thrown in for good measure, I suspect!). And my thanks - and apologies for presenting unannounced barely before end-of-service - to the kitchen! I look forward to seeing you again!

Nice Spanish restaurant if you re looking for a more high end dining experience. Our waiter Sergey was attentive and friendly. Staff very kindly treated us to some special extras as it was a Birthday celebration.

Classic location

Probably the best Spanish restaurant in London. From the moment you enter the restaurant, the vibe and atmosphere was brillant. All the staff are very friendly and the food is absolutely amazing. The hardest part of the evening was to choose the food. Everything looks so delicious. We started with the tuna tartare, which melt in your mouth like snow flakes, and the foie gras served with broken walnuts. So tasty. Then for mains, we had the veal escalope stuffed with spanish ham and cheese which was made with such harmony, and the famous suckling pig. Again, bursting with flavours and finishing like a firework on your palate. That was such an incredible dining experience. A special thank you to David for making that evening so memorable. He is friendly, efficient and very customer oriented who will make you feel confortable and welcome.

Dined here for my partners birthday. Great food although a little disappointed at the lack of Patatas bravas. We had a selection of tapas hot and cold plates. Food was fantastic, especially the meatballs and mushroom croquetas. Service was also fantastic. Would recommend!

A meal of two halves. The starters were wonderful; we had perfect steak tartar, superb ham and a lovely fresh bruschetta. However my main was an incredibly poorly balanced meal. I had the lamb with black garlic emulsion but with no acidity on the plate it was a large greasy mess, and this was the waiter s recommendation. A friend had the ox cheek which seemed better. We were a large group and they also took the opportunity to add a large amount of bread and water to the bill which we didn t have. Be sure to check your receipt.

Tried having a business meeting in the so-called private area. The party next to me was so loud that the meeting was worthless. We complained and heard were sorry. Plenty of other free tables around. No asking for the other party to be quieter. Sorry isnt a currency, and it doesnt solve problems. Its just a cheap way to try to make others feel better.
