Modern West African food and French wine in Fitzrovia. One Michelin star.
June 2024 Lovely, delicate African cuisine! Spices and stocks has been used in a clever way and the dishes visually were very appealing. I had never really tried a high-end African restaurant before so it was a very fun experience. The cocktails were also very unique and unusual, especially the spiced okra martini.
The staff was kind, friendly, and efficient but a little quiet when presenting the food. The food was really good for London. The only flaw was that there were many scales on the fish still (perhaps they forgot to descale the fish tonight). My only other complaint is the same that I have about many Michelin star restaurants: I leave a little hungry (and feel like I need to stop for a burger on the way home). There are some practical solutions to this including having a larger side dish of rice or even asking if the patron would like any one of the dishes again.
Amazing experience! This Michelin-starred spot serves incredible West African food with a creative twist. The tasting menu was full of bold, vibrant flavors—every dish was a hit, especially the Mushroom Moi, the Banga and the incredible dessert of ice cream, meringue and blackberries. The service was top-notch too—friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a unique and delicious dining experience! Oh, and the Okra Martini was the bomb.
Extend the borders of your food atlas but ignore the challenging service. Dishes are discussion points, whether for the ingredients, combinations, or which part of West Africa they were inspired by. Romantic seating in the booths.
Faultless. Staff were amazing and clearly part of the team knowing down to the spice each of the dishes. Great natural wine list and food was sublime. The dinner set menu is just the right length and more than enough delicious West African cuisine. Now one of our faves in London
The team at Chishuru care about you. From the food, wine selection and service, it’s clear that their priority is creating a memorable experience. This was my first time trying West African food in a fine dining setting. The explanation of each dish followed by delicious and complex flavors makes this a winner for me. GO!
Dinner at one Michelin star West African restaurant📍Chishuru near Oxford Circus Tasting menu with new (for me) and exciting flavours. Dishes were delicious with traditional ingredients (I’m told) cooked in creative new ways. I love trying restaurants like this because even if i find the food is not to my taste (which is NOT the case here) I can still appreciate the experience of having tried something new. but when the food is to your taste you spend thr next few days thinking about how great it was 🤤 Loved it, loved it, loved it!
I recently had the pleasure of dining at this African restaurant and I was absolutely blown away by the exceptional quality of the food and the outstanding service. The flavors in every dish were incredibly vibrant and rich, transporting me to West Africa with each bite. The presentation of the food was equally impressive, with each dish being a work of art on its own. The service was impeccable, with the staff being attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly, enhancing the overall dining experience. I can't wait to go back and savor more of the beautiful and flavorful cuisine at this remarkable restaurant.
One of the beautiful and unique experiences is the Chishuru restaurant experience, owned by the creative chef Adejoké, who began her passion for cooking from a food cart during her university studies to a food truck in Southwest London. The restaurant has a set menu with a set of 3 flavorful delicious appetizers, main course and the unique dessert. Yes The restaurant is worth to try it again
Had an amazing meal here - the service was so attentive, yet friendly and approachable. The food was just beautiful- so much flavour and really unique - loved it all!
Excellent meal, great service, good wine selection (ordered by the glass and now wish i had gone with the pairing). A wonderful experience.
A special thank you to Mozelle, who was a wonderful server and made us feel very welcome.
Great service and food. So good I ve come twice in a month ! Incredibly welcoming to us with our baby in tow too.
A Phenomenal Culinary Experience at Chishuru Chishuru is an absolute gem. My wife and I, seasoned diners who ve visited many Michelin-starred establishments, were completely captivated by this restaurant. This was our first introduction to West African cuisine, and we can confidently say that it was love at first bite. The food is nothing short of spectacular every dish bursts with vibrant flavors, rich spices, and exquisite attention to detail. Each plate feels like a celebration of heritage and creativity, showcasing a cuisine we wish we had discovered sooner. The menu is thoughtfully curated, with every bite offering something memorable and unique. The service at Chishuru was equally remarkable. The staff s warmth, attentiveness, and deep knowledge of the cuisine made the experience even more special. They guided us through the menu with genuine passion. The ambiance is another standout intimate, inviting, and effortlessly stylish. The space radiates warmth and energy, creating an atmosphere that feels as exceptional as the food itself.
Incredible food and wine. Great staff, in particular Grace she was lovely and super informative. Only slight thing is it can get a little loud in there which can make it hard to hear the servers when they explain the food, but this is absolutely minor in the whole experience.
The food was delicious which we had with the wine pairing. Fantastic evening and great tasting food.
Unique answer delicious menu, we enjoyed all of our courses and lived the you could supplement the degustation with extras. Our server was cool and attentive and everything we ate was served on hot plates and tasted unique and interesting. My only comment was that we were sat in the first booth near the door so every time the door opened an arctic breeze caught us pretty badly, I was cold the entire meal! Top marks otherwise.
Pretty good but a bit underwhelming for the price and the Michelin hype.
Exceptional dining experience. We went for lunch, can only imagine how much better it gets for dinner. Each dish is perfectly balanced, spicy but not so much you lose other notes.

It is completely worth a visit. The staff are so friendly and explained each and every dish, which was an insight into some intriguing ingredients. Every mouthful set the taste buds alight. Price point for an evening meal is, for a Michelin restaurant good. Its a set menu with a choice for the main course. They cater for gluten intolerance, too. Staff are amazing, professional, efficient, and polite. I am looking forward to a return visit. Dietary restrictions: Very clear on the web site
The restaurant does not cater well to allergies at all. Although they claim they do on their website, essentially they just remove parts of the dish and you end up leaving very hungry. Some of the starters were good (particularly the ox tongue), however none of the dishes were spectacular and the service left much to desire... I was expecting much more from a Michelin star restaurant.
The food was so different and inventive. The chef visited the table and explained what each dish entailed. The vegetarian choices were just as exciting as the meat and fish dishes. We had an amazing experience.
Vegetarian options: Always vegetarian options including for the set lunch menu Food
West African food a first for me. Beautiful and exquisite flavours. Service was friendly with excellent explanations of the menu. Lunch at £45pp is excellent value. Thoroughly enjoyable afternoon with friends. Would recommend and shall be coming back.
My husband took me here for my birthday as a surprise - it had been on our list to visit for ages! The food was really delicious - I particularly enjoyed the ox-tongue starter and then the beef main course. We had two desserts each (my sweet tooth is unmatched) - the second one with a pistachio cake and pistachio paste was insane, absolutely loved it. Service was very friendly and efficient. And cant finish without talking about the okra martini - if you drink alcohol definitely have one of these!
Quality price could be improved but good cheerful and helpful service, the prices a bit exaggerated but the experience very pleasant. We tried everything and more, we marveled at the diverse and different tastes of the food and we were able to enjoy a romantic lunch. Vegetarian options: All adapted. Dietary restrictions: They adapt to allergies and if you are a vegetarian or a fish-eater you can eat great.
The food and service were exceptional! As a West African i can vouch for the authenticity and absolute genius of the flavours and dishes on the set menu. I hope this restaurant awakens the unawares to the beauty and wonder of our cuisine. We will definitely be back and will tell our friends about it!!
Food was amazing. Could improve on the decor and ambiance. Need more space between the entrance, cloak room area , staircase and welcome desk.
First ate at Chishuru a few years ago when they were nearby in Brixton Market, and the quality/ flavours/ uniqueness / range /depth of dishes and wine selection made such a lasting impression, that I ve been waiting to return. Had the opportunity to return for lunch, at the new central London location, this past Friday. Experience didn t disappoint. Hard to describe starters to desert, other than everything was delicious and recommend to anyone looking for something a little different.
The okra martini is great - You cannot handle it with the full wine pairing, promise! The flavors and textures were all excellent, thoughtful, and surprising. The music and stylistic choices are very welcoming and relaxed - A very good time!
We had such a spectacular time at Chishuru for my birthday dinner. The food was amazing and the service too. I really appreciated the signed birthday card too. Thank you team Chishuru. Im now an unofficial ambassador!
Well, the service is not really professional, which one would expect in a Michelin starred - I left three out of five courses nearly uneaten and they didnt care. The lower dining room is too packed and oppressive, with low ceiling and quite dark. But the main point is that the food is dull, and includes non African ingredients aplenty: porcini and far East mushrooms, Pollock, turbot... I lived more than 15 years in three different countries in Africa, and travelled to at least 30: never seen any of those... Quite a disappointment.
Beautiful food and excellent service. We loved the courses from the start and were pleasantly surprised at how good the desserts were (we opted to share the special extra dessert that was offered). Even the petit four were excellent and the dishes were all memorable and distinct. The decor and atmosphere is very good although it was a little bit difficult to converse at times due to the music but thats par for London (for the most part I dont think this would deter visitors). The cocktails were lovely and packed a proper punch - dont expect a mild understated chilli kick to your drinks!
Thank you so much for making our evening an absolute bliss! And many, many thanks for the beautiful birthday card you signed for my friend on her birthday! What a fantastic gesture!
What a disappointing dining experience at this restaurant. First of all, the quality of the food was extremely poor and not at all what I expected. Two identical dishes were served, but there was an obvious difference in size. One was a large portion, while the other was pitifully small. What is even more unacceptable is that the food is cold and has obviously been reheated, losing the freshness it should have. The waiter also insists on denying that it was prepared on the spur of the moment, thinking that the customer is a fool. . Maybe it s the level of local people Just looking through the negative reviews of this restaurant and looking at their accounts replies and arguments with customers, its easy to see how unprofessional they are. Looking forward to how they plan to reply to my negative review. . But I still have the courage to tell the truth! The presentation of the dinner plate was aesthetically unattractive, boring and tacky, and did not excite the appetite at all. The service was also very poor, the waitress was aloof and passive aggressive and didnt seem willing to interact with customers. Moreover, what is puzzling is that she has completely different attitudes towards different guests. Some guests received warm and thoughtful service, but we seemed to be ignored The environment of the restaurant is also disappointing, the decoration is simple and cheap, giving it the feel of a low-end family restaurant, which does not match the price at all. The ingredients used in the dishes are also very cheap. Too much starch takes up most of the plate, like huge potato chunks. The taste is very bland and there is no balance of seasonings Overall, the meal was overpriced and not worth it. I have dined at many other restaurants and received far better quality and service for the same price. I really don t recommend this restaurant.
Best
The food takes you on such a journey. It is hearty, warm and the height of creativity. As someone who grew up with these foods, to have them reimagined in this way was just beautiful. Faultless in every way.
Amazing set menu - each dish was unique and flavorful. Loved the ox dish.
Hands down best food and service, LOVED IT
Exquisite flavours without the stuffiness.
I had been wanting to visit Chishuru since they were located in Brixton, and having backed the Crowdfunder for this new location I was so glad to finally get the chance to dine there. Each of the dishes we had were thoughtful, flavourful and beautifully plated. The Onugbu and the Egusi ice cream were my favourite dishes, but everything was excellent.
Very good Lunch menu. Attentive staff and three courses with powerful and bold flavors. Highly recommend this place.
We only had a week in London so I was hoping we made the right call with this being our last dinner of the trip - it far exceeded expectations. I wanted to lick the plate clean for every dish and the cocktails were so unique and fun. Shoutout to one of the staff members who recommended we go with the cabbage dish - it was literally life changing. The pacing of courses was slightly off (compared to other Michelins) but given they are admittedly casual, it works. Hope to be back one day!
Interesting food
Outstanding! Absolutely Incredible food & atmosphere. Definitely will be visiting again soon!
We attended on the 3rd September and had the set lunch menu. The two starters were delicious and the scotch bonnet chilli sauce had just the right amount of kick. I had the chicken which was seasoned and cooked to perfection and the peanut sauce to compliment this worked a treat. My wife had the eel main and she loved the vegetables that accompanied this. This too was eely good. We also ordered a side of Jollof rice and I can see why people love this. The only thing we were not keen on was the desert and the sorbet was slightly bitter. Not for me sadly. The acid test is would we go back and the answer is a resounding yes !
I came to this restaurant because I was excited to try a new Michelin star restaurant in town that specializes in West African dishes. While I found the appetizers stellar, the main of smoked eel was not quite what I expected. Perhaps it s my lack of familiarity with West African fish dishes but I expected the sweet potato puree to have more flavor.
The food was excellent, we came with open minds and left with full bellies. We were curious to see how home recipes could be elevated and we were not disappointed - the flavours were rich and authentic to spice loving palates of West Africa. We were lucky enough to meet the chef who was extremely warm and friendly. Wonderful experience, Thank you
Incredible experience, The tasting menu is simply exceptional. Every dish is an explosion of flavour, with carefully balanced spices and textures that showcase the richness of Nigerian and West African food. The use of fresh, bold ingredients, combined with masterful cooking techniques, resulted in plates that were both artful and comforting. Highly recommend!
We came here for a birthday meal and we seated straight away. Amazing staff and extremely attentive. There is only the tasting menu but you get a choice of mains. This is not a cuisine I am used to and the spice and sourness of the some of the food, I personally struggled. However the food was beautifully prepared and presented. I have a hearing issue and the staff can be softly spoken and the restaurant noisy and it would have been nice to have written information about the dishes - just a thought.
Absolutely fabulous meal and welcome here today. Amazing food and smoky cocktail. Will definitely go again
Top top notch. Some of my favourite overall restaurant experiences have been at Kol, Scully St James, La Bernadine (New York) to name a few I d now put this in that list too. Wonderful and distinctive food, service that was as warm as it was professional, and a refined and relaxed atmosphere. We are pescatarian but even if you usually stick to meat, don t ignore the hispi cabbage vege option from the mains when you go - this was spectacular. Our only slight disappointment was the fish dishes that felt a little more tame compared to everything else. But overall just fantastic.
Food is always excellent here, went for lunch and it didn t disappoint
Great food, very good service - all done very smoothly. Great having the food described by the waitress as she placed it on the table.
Fantastic food. Relaxed atmosphere and great staff. You made my birthday very special and will never forget. Every course was super! Such an amazing combination of ingredients. Thank you
London = foodie paradise This trip we went to try the first Modern African Michelin Star restaurant @chishuru. Loved every bite & the Scotch Bonnet spice was just perfect Special meal indeed! The service is also very lovely, the staffs are knowledgeable and very welcomed :)
Outstanding food and service.
Loved the food and drinks with many new flavours and combinations. Nice friendly service. The lunch is great value. We will be back!
Amazing!!! Highly recommend
Thoroughly enjoyed it at Chishuru
My wife & I both agreed our favourites were the Ose-ji, the pollock, and the company ;) Okra martini was a bit stiff. Overall excellent food and service.
Great experience with the most delicious food. The spice levels were bang on. The staff were so friendly and accommodating and made us feel very welcomed and relaxed. They went out of their way to make a special birthday special. Kid-friendliness: We went with 3 young children who ate of our plates and the staff were so lovely with them.
We had the set lunch for four and thought Chishuru offered excellent value for money for a holistic dining experience that gave us delicious food, warm ambience and excellent service. We loved that it was relaxed and comfortable for our two children, whilst at the same time, our lunch felt very luxe down to the weight of the cutlery and the clarity on the ice-cubes! We enjoyed the big bold flavours and textures on offer, and even though we re fairly experienced diners as a family, we were introduced to ingredients we hadn t tried before (eg. breadfruit seeds and utazi) and were excited with what was put in front of us. Everything was well seasoned, cooked and presented beautifully, and we enjoyed the interesting choice of proteins for the main courses (eel and guinea fowl). Furthermore, we felt safe that our dietary requirements (allergies to ground and tree nuts) were being looked after with considerate communication between front of house and back of house staff. One last point were we full after lunch? Can a fine dining 1* restaurant s set menu satiate an hungry family? Absolutely! We rolled out of the restaurant thankful for our elasticated waistbands.
Modern East African cuisine, this has you coming for more .
I loved every part of the journey. The food and the staff were all amazing Looking forward to revisiting this fabulous restaurant!!
Food was really different and nice. Especially the mushroom starter and the cod main. Steak was disappointing.. it was so fatty and not great quality although cooked perfectly. Service and staff are super nice and friendly.
Amazing ! really worth a visit
Inventive food but most importantly really tasty. The set lunch is a real bargain in this day and age for £45
I heard really great things about this spot, however it kind of missed the mark for me. I really enjoyed the starts for lunch set menu however the main dishes were lacking the west African flavors we were expecting. The smoked eel was the better of the two, but it was such a small portion. The jollof didnt taste like jollof at all more like Indian basmati rice. The dessert was bitter we decided not to finish it. This isnt a Michelin lunch I would try again.
Absolutely divine food. Every single dish was fantastic. Service and atmosphere were excellent, but the FOOD!
Great service and atmosphere. As mentioned in the website it is a causal atmosphere, cozy vibes. The dinner was £95 for the menu which had 1 snack, 3 starters, 1 main and a dessert. My trouble is with the quality and portion size of the food offered for a 1 star. Obviously tasting menu is meant to be smaller portions across a variety of plates. Here though, the portion sizing is smaller than usual. Mains come with a good portion of rice which tasted fantastic btw but it was the rice that fills you up and not the plates itself. And most importantly the dishes aren t refined and complex for a star. Always opinions are subjective but we won t be recommending the restaurant to friends.
We got the the food tasting with the wine pairing. Great food, great service, generous wine pairing. Overall just a beyond great experience.
Incredible lunch menu, exciting, well seasoned. Great array of drinks. Service was outstanding! Cant wait to come back to try the dinner menu!
Went for dinner with my parents and my partner. We enjoyed the food, the service was not great for a Michelin star restaurant. We did not get our drinks and had to reminded them half way through the meal. Happy with the food, bit disappointed with the service Perhaps just an off day
I recommend everything. The spice level was impeccable, delectable, unmatched. This place was a favorite. Ill never forget it. Make a reservation.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Chishuru, located at 3 Great Titchfield Street, London W1W 8AX, with my two brothers and a friend. We opted for the set menu, and each course was a delightful journey of sumptuous, beautifully presented, and appetising dishes that stayed true to authentic Nigerian flavours. From the welcome snack of Ose-ji to the uniquely flavored Mushroom moi and the tender Gizzard, every dish was crafted to perfection. The Cornish pollock cooked in a banana leaf, part of the Fish in banana leaf course, was particularly memorable, bursting with flavor and complemented perfectly by the accompanying Thai basil and red chili dressing. The Egusi elefo and Imoyo dishes were equally impressive, with the latter featuring a Newlyn cod fillet that was expertly paired with fermented tomato sauce and okra. The Mafe, a mutton cutlet with a delightful coffee and yaji dressing, was another highlight, served with peanut, uda, and uziza sauce that added a rich depth of flavor. The dessert, a combination of soursop ice cream, marshmallow, moringa crumble, and timur pepper, provided a refreshing and satisfying end to the meal. The service at Chishuru was top-notch. The staff were attentive and made us feel incredibly special throughout our dining experience. The entire evening was not just a meal but an exceptional experience that offered fantastic value, especially considering it is helmed by a Michelin-starred chef. I highly recommend Chishuru for anyone looking to enjoy authentic Nigerian cuisine in London. Its a culinary gem that delivers on both flavour and experience. Kid-friendliness: They catered well to my 2 year old.
Delicious food, excellent service, and the lunch menu was great value. We got a side set to share along with the set menu, which I would definitely recommend to others. The jollof rice and the aubergine were particularly great. Want to go back for dinner! Vegetarian options: In the lunch menu, all of the courses except one were vegetarian by default. But my wife didnt love the vegetarian main, as it was a bit one-note. The other courses and sides were great, however.
One of the very best restaurants I ve been to. Twice now!
Nice food and interesting flavours. Portions pretty small but given the price was ok.
Had the lunch set menu. It was just fine and overpriced for what we had. The highlight was the dessert. Otherwise, the food was OK. Mainly veggies with a very small protein on the side. The nuts they added to the starter (fermented rice cake) were stale. Maybe we went there on a bad day
Great restaurant Ate the fixed lunch menu Food : 5/5
We love Chishuru! One of our favorite places anywhere. The old location in the Brixton Market had a bit more magic to it in terms of the ambience but the food and service remains outstanding.
Fantastic meal, well prepared and very flavourful dishes. Highly recommended and will certainly return
Dined here yesterday with my husband. The food was exceptional. The flavours out of this world! More than that though, when we realised we made the mistake of ordering what we thought was the meat main and a veg main came out instead, they were so kind and accommodating to swap it even though no fault of theirs. It was very much appreciated. Service was perfect. Thank you
We had the prix fixe dinner with wine pairing. Don t hesitate. The food .exceptional. The service exceptional. The decor and vibe .exceptional. It was an experience.
I have been to some good restaurants and a few greats but exceptional ones fit on only one hand. Well another restaurant has joined that exceptional list. The food is amazing , I have never had flavours and combinations like it, a first for many of the taste experiences, the wine flight was joyful, trying new things, a kind, knowledgeable and helpful team, and not least Matt and Joké the chef. Go and try this as soon as you can. You will not be disappointed
Food wonderful - amazing flavours, combinations and textures. Staff friendly and helpful. Ox tongue, beef main, and bean cake snack all highlights. Only minus points were that service felt a bit rushed, and the price. I dont normally comment on the price of places like Chishuru, but I do think its a little on the steep side. That being said, fantastic ingredients, cooked skilfully, in a central London location, so maybe it all adds up!
Wonderful tasting menu to celebrate my husbands birthday
Fantastic experience Thank you ! Food
I just dont think its worth the price of £95 for a set menu. The food was tasty for the most part but not all dishes worked and the service wasnt amazing. One waiter was great but the other seemed totally overwhelmed. We were still eating starter 2 when starter 3 arrived and it was pushed onto the sides of the table to fit even though it was a warm dish which then got cold while we were finishing the previous starter - a Michelin starred restaurant surely would not allow this! My mutton was good but my husbands cod was cold - we mentioned to the waiter who nodded but did nothing about it. I think much nicer places to eat with set menus in London and this place needs to try much harder. More like a pop-up than fine dining. You need to do more to make your diners feel special. I do think it has potential but something is lacking and I think its caring. I see that the manager only responds to negative feedback in quite a brusque manner so I am interested to see what their response is to my message.
We can truly say that the food was one of the best and tastiest experience of any restaurant we ve been to, including other Michelin restaurants. Loved our visit, more than happy to recommend to others and congrats to the excellent chef for her Michelin star - well deserved!
Amazing dining experience with superb flavour combinations from one dish to the next. Sauces to die for. I need to go back for lunch!
Fantastic flavours, with rich warming scotch bonnet, oxtongue, plantain, and lots of new sensations. I may have told them that I would rob the restaurant at gun-point for a bucket of their peanut sauce. Because of the nature of West African cooking, everything (except one garnish) was gluten free, so I could enjoy the entire menu. Staff were amazing too. Attentive and friendly, without being intrusive or annoying. It was my husbands birthday and staff even gave him a card, which was very sweet. The whole experience was top notch and I cannot recommend it enough. Atmosphere: again, very well done. Bright lighting over the table so we could see our food (amazing how many places get this wrong), but with soft surroundings for a peaceful vibe. The whole place felt comfortable and inviting. Come with a mind open to new flavours and combinations, and you wont be disappointed. Thank you everyone at Chishuru for a wonderful evening. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free available
Absolutely exemplary! We waited a really long time to visit here and can confidently say it was worth the wait. The decor is beautiful, service impeccable, but the food and drink are absolutely the star of the show. I m not particularly familiar with West African cuisine but went with an open mind and can confidently say I enjoyed absolutely everything I ate, from the first course to the last. Unlike some other set menus, you will leave neither stuffed nor hungry - the first few dishes are perfectly sized to enjoy, and the main is a satisfying portion of a your chosen protein, plantain, endives, and a generous helping of ginger-fried rice. The cocktails (Suya smoke in particular) are perfectly balanaced, and the sommelier helped us to choose a delicious wine that none of my table were familiar with, but which complemented our meal perfectly. I d revisit in a heartbeat and recommend to anyone who enjoys food!
Unbelievable food and atmosphere at Chishuru! Recommended it to a ton of my friends immediately after leaving.
Fantastic food, great service, will definitely go back soon.
We came to celebrate my birthday with a beautiful Friday lunch at Cheshire. Absolutely everything was stunningly made and packed full of flavour. Even my carnivore fiancé was amazed at just how delicious even the veggie options were! Thank you for a memorable and delicious meal. I ve been telling friends and family to make sure to pay a visit! One of the best restaurants in London. The food was exceptional and the staff was super friendly and helpful with the menu. The atmosphere was very nice and warm. It would be better if you made an reservation before your visit cause there are not a lot of tables but there is a chance that you might find something without one.We had the pleasure of ordering the Halibut and the Pork, both of which were exquisite. The Halibut was cooked to perfection, adorned with a beautiful sauce and accompanied by delectable sides that complemented the fish wonderfully. The Pork was tender and succulent, with a crispy skin that added a satisfying texture to the dish. However, the skin was a bit challenging to cut and bite through, which slightly detracted from the overall experience. To accompany our main courses, we ordered additional greens and a salad, both of which exceeded our expectations. The cooked greens were expertly seasoned, likely with a rich ingredient such as butter, elevating the dish to new heights. The salad was a refreshing and well-balanced mix, with a delightful citrusy dressing that tied all the components together harmoniously.
Chishuru is one of the hottest restaurants at the moment. The Chefs recent michelin star award, has it on everyones wish list. I was taken there by a friend as a birthday treat. The interior is welcoming as you step in and the staff are ever so friendly. As a British man with West African parentage, I LOVED the use of flavours and the twists that Adejoké Bakare used on each dish. Each bite brought familiar flavours to my tastebuds but done with a twist. This team deserve all the accolades and praise. RUN and book a table, it is worth the hype
Loved our meal here! Just a great meal in a lovely space.
We had a 10/10 experience at Chishuru. The service was friendly, attentive and timely and food delicious. Traditional West African flavors came through in a super elevated and interesting way including spice that was well balanced and not at all overwhelming.
Came here to meet up with some old friends and we had a great time. The service was impeccable and the food was wonderful. Great set menu. Great environment
The service was next level and the food was incredible. I visited with my friend and our two babies and we were bowled over by how accommodating and kind the restaurant and the staff were. Not only were we welcomed warmly with a high chair at the table but when one of the babies was feeling unsettled the staff offered to take them for a walk around the kitchen to help settle them. Such kindness. Wonderful atmosphere and, as I said before, the food was so delicious. We had the lunch set menu and I loved tasting so many new (to me) ingredients and dishes. The flavours, textures, spicing, plating was all excellent. Will be returning
Lovely birthday celebration with Chishuru. We received a warm welcome also a birthday card with all the staff s signatures. Excellent service and chill atmosphere. The ox tongue tasted great although the name gizdodo was confusing as there was no gizzard in it?
Really superb food innovative, beautiful, thrillingly spiced and perfectly balanced. Lovely knowledgeable staff provide polished yet informal service, and the restaurant is both chic and calm. Good value for the very high quality of food served.
West African food is not something Id ever tried before but I knew it was something I needed to. The ambience is lively and casual. Making it a perfect place for a relaxed Michelin dinner. The tasting menu is exquisite. Each flavour was unique and clean. When they mentioned scotch bonnets you could taste all the flavours of the pepper without being wildly overwhelmed by the spice level. If youre looking for something different and absolutely delicious, this is it!
Wonderful mix of flavours, colours and textures across all of the courses we had for lunch. Really well done!
Faultless Impeccable service from the time we entered the restaurant to when we left. The food was incredible. Portion sizes were excellent and every dish was detailed by the staff who were courteous and attentive. I will definitely return.
Not good value anymore. Instead of increasing portions it seems they decided to increase prices by 25%. Now dinner is £95pp without drinks. As many others mention portions are too small. We are not big eaters but the whole dinner is not filling, and we had snacks before. At £250+ for dinner for two we felt we were overcharged for what we got. Beware of vouchers for Dinner for two: it is not for a dinner. They can increase prices any time. We bought it in April, and by early June prices were up 25%, so they said the voucher for dinner did not cover the whole dinner (?). Very misleading and greedy. They were unapologetic, and just said that it was stated in the small print. I guess we should be thankful that we didnt have to pay £100 extra each instead. We were tempted to remove the service charge to compensate for this dubious marketing strategy, but we didnt. Yes, food is very nice and interesting. The service is fine. And the venue and atmosphere are good too. But that is all expected with this price tag.
We visited the restaurant for a set menu for dinner and were seated down at the basement. The flavors and the ingredients of the dishes were exceptional, as well as the staff. The size of the portions though were too small, especially for the main course, in which the protein (mutton cutlet) was not more than 50 grams. The size of the courses was more like a degustation menu of 8-10 dishes and not a 5-course dinner. The wine matching was fine and the quantity normal. The temperature was fine, decoration OK, but the atmosphere was quite loud, making somewhat difficult to hear your partner. Finally, the water bottle had a thick layer of white dust on it, which means that it had not been washed maybe for a few weeks. We mentioned that to the waitress when paying our bill and she told us that she would inform the manager.
Very expensive but good food
(I had the sample menu £75pp) The starters at Chishuru were incredible, and the flavors throughout the meal were outstanding, a solid 10/10 I 100% see why they have the Michelin star. However, the soup portion was quite small, and it wouldve been nice to have some bread to accompany it. The service was a bit slow; we noticed many cocktails were finished before the starters even arrived. Overall, it was a lovely experience, but the portions were generally on the smaller side, and the main course was slightly cold. I personally prefer my food to be piping hot.
Went for lunch with some friends from out of town. All agreed that the food was divine especially the Fonio and Carab dessert which I am still dreaming about! Well done to Chef Joke and her culinary team at Chishuru.
The food was absolutely incredible. Everything was so well-balanced. We had the tasting menu with wine pairing, and Id really recommend the pairing. Definitely worth it. Im vegetarian and my partner isnt. Id read some of the reviews that suggested the vegetarian options werent on par with the regular menu, but I couldnt disagree more, hence wanting to leave a review. Its really great to see a high-end restaurant cater so well to dietary requirements. All the courses were so varied and so rich. Oh, and the cocktails were great too. Cant wait to come back. Vegetarian options: All the courses are designed to be equivalent to their meat/fish versions, but adapted to work well as vegetarian dishes
Food and service was amazing. Cant fault it. Every dish was a delight.
Went for dinner. Booked in January for an April table. Read multiple reviews and excited to try new flavour combinations and something different on London s restaurant scene. The lady who seated us couldn t have seemed less interested in her job. Otherwise the staff were friendly but not properly trained. Food was disappointing. Small portions. Under-seasoned and overly spiced to compensate. Parts of dishes had likely been prepared ahead of service and so were dry and congealed (eg: fermented rice cake). The mains were served with shared sides that were overpowering and not well paired (same sides irrespective of the chosen main). Dessert was boring and nothing unique. The wine pairing was lacklustre. The champagne was lovely. The white wine matched well and helped cut the overly-spiced starter, but when drunk alone resembled vinegar. The Beaujolais was weak against the again heavily-spiced mains. It resembled water when drunk with the food. The desert wine may have been nice if it arrived. Who knows. Who cares. Not returning.
Outstanding. We went for lunch and there was nothing to fault. We love the originality, spiciness, inventiveness.
the staff was very friendly, the food was superb. amazing flavours, especially loved the moi moi and the mafe, but everything on the dinner menu was delicious. caters to gluten intolerance without any issues. if you love a dirty martini, absolutely try the spiced okra martini.
Fabulous evening. Thank you very much to Matt and the Team.
Could not have been more impressed with the food or the service! Loveliest night out weve had in ages. Highly recommend the pigeon, it was fabulous
Id love to give more than 5 stars for our absolutely wonderful lunch at Chishuru! Say 11! Jay Rayner and Michelin were right in their assessment. Its simply delicious food, exquisitely presented and packed with flavourful surprises and exciting new taste experiences! All delivered stylishly by delightful, knowledgeable, and attentive servers who preview the incredible dishes with poetic descriptions articulated with humour and panache ! In a relaxing ambience and cool vibe! The kitchen is open and you can see the diligent chefs cooking away and plating up in a swirl of steam and exotic atmospherics! As devotees of spice and heat, we requested additional chilli which prompted Chef Joke to visit our table for a most enjoyable and humorous spontaneous interaction! It was then that we realised how the entire experience at Chishuru embodies her luminous character, special style and energetic vitality . . .
Trying this out after recommendations from our friends. The menu is a fixed set menu with some options or additions here and there. Overall, we thought it was very very good and would really recommend it! One of our better Michelin star restaurant experiences, maybe because there was some spice to it! Highly recommended for foodies in London who want a bit of fancy TLDR Starters... Sinasir - fermented rice cake with smoked mackerel. This was very pleasant. The rice cake was light and mackerel topping was tasty too. Moi moi - bean cake, lamb-broth cooked tomato, shrimp shitto and salted egg sauce. This was delicious and my favourite but was the shrimp shitto which was full of flavour and had some spice which we loved! (Optional) Deep fried quail - very tasty! Almost like a posh tiny fried chicken. The scotch bonnet sauce was yummy too. The only small criticism is that it was a bit messy to eat as it had bones... I was very tempted to use my hands! Peppersoup - as the name suggests, the soup is peppery and again provided a nice tingle! The little bits in it, mushroom and compressed apple / beetroot were also tasty in their own way. Now on to the mains... We shared the cod fillet and mutton cutlet (the other option was a cauliflower dish). Cod - the fillet was cooked perfectly as it was very flaky! Pepper sauce alongside was good too. Mutton - also very well cooked and the sauce was very peanuty! Alongside these we had sides of ginger fried rice, plantain and endive (bitter!). We were also meant to have preserved lemon... Not sure we got this or where it would have fit in! Dessert was moringa biscuit, soursop ice-cream and burnt marshmallow. This was the perfect ending to cut through everything, a little bit of sweet but not too much!
The way the food was handled for my sister with allergies was above and beyond. The drinks were really good but there could be a bit more flexibility when it comes to specific requests on drinks.
I had an absolutely splendid time at Chishuru! The food tasted so great that I can taste it as I type Very friendly welcome and the Chef Joke was so nice with a warm smile. Thank you, Chishuru!
Really nice restaurant, amazing food and great service. Only good things to say about this place, and my absolute favourite were the plantain and the entrees. Also the fresh orange drink with sparkling water was the perfect mocktail to go with dinner. The dessert was really good as well. Dietary restrictions: Very accommodating
Perfect in every way, thank you. Our server was so lovely but I didnt catch her name. Thank you for making us feel so special and welcome and also for making us feel so comfortable especially as this was our first ever Michelin star restaurant so we were a bit nervous!
Excellent tasting menu - with wonderful vegetarian options
Five stars for ! From the warm hospitality to the flavorful dishes, every aspect of the dining experience was simply fabulous. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, and the food... oh, the food! Authentic flavors. If youre craving a taste of Nigeria with exceptional service, look no further. Highly recommend!
Disappointing experience. The only trace of it being a Michelin star restaurant was the price tag (£75pp for dinner menu). The food was ok, but it lacked the flavors and textures expected from a one star restaurant. I would clasisfy it as British cuisine with just a hint of African ingredients. The atmosphere was another disappointment, as the underground seating was full and with poor sound insulation, it became so noisy we couldnt hear each other across the table. While the servers tried to be helpful with wine suggestions, the pace of the meal and the way it was presented made it feel like any chain restaurant. Overall, its not worth the hype. For the same price, there are much better restaurant options (with and without Michelin stars) across London.
Birthday booking here with set menu, was running late but were accommodated which was really nice. Had our newborn which wasnt an issue, which is also nice. Staff are all amazing, vibrant and helpful. Food was lovely and interesting...drinks were tasty and cute too. Would deffo return!
I took my brother for dinner who was over from South Africa. The food was fantastic, atmosphere lively and the staff welcoming and friendly. Both of us had the mutton for a main and have eaten mutton many times but never like this. The meat was perfectly tender while still remaining pink and the entire plate perfectly balanced in flavours.
Great experience. Food was delicious and interesting. They were clear we only had two hours but we felt a little pushed out. Given that they control the flow of food with the tasting menu they could time it better. We asked for the bill, and while waiting for someone to come with the card reader, another waitress came by to let us know our time was up. Don t push me while I m already waiting for you.
Excellent food and service !
Overhyped in my view. Well executed food and use of African ingredients but no a stand out experience or flavours. The whole experience was rather short as well given the courses came through quite quickly and portions, which is reflective of the portion sizes. The restaurant is cosy and well decorated.
Outstanding food, unique experience
Delicious and imaginative food, I had a great time there. Unpretentious and relaxed atmosphere. We went for my fiancés birthday and the whole team signed a surprise card for my fiancé, such a lovely gesture! I will be back.
Fabulous lunch. Great service. Only ruined by a very random member of staff at the end who was incredibly rude and dismissive. We almost couldn t believe he worked at the same establishment where we had such wonderful service from Grace and Tatty. We assume he was having a bad day. But thank you to the other members f staff who were great.
Absolutely lovely experience. Great service. The food was exceptional, with so much flavour. Everyone was really helpful especially Matt. Thank you for a wonderful meal
Just average street food that is pretending to be a lot more serious than that , in a form of tasting menu that was so miniscule in portions that only if it was fine dining with double the amount of plates, would have been justified ( in terms of quantity..and prices... ) . It would have been OK for a food market sort of lunch . It is trendy ( a lot of talk about it) but we really couldnt understand why because the food doesnt justify it! Desert was the best part of themeal. Service was friendly. It is the first time, I left a restaurant and went straight to another one to get more food because both of us felt hungry. Ps..they really do not like criticism, so I had to edit and clarify my answer.
Good service and atmosphere; excellent starters followed by rather pricy, disappointing main dishes.
Good, but it was quite expensive for what we got. The food was very good on the whole, but it left me wanting a bit more in terms of portion sizes.
Delicious food with great service and amazing vibe! Highly recommend!
We visited for dinner on a Wednesday. It wasn t the best of starts as I arrived 7 min early which seemed to annoy the host. He curtly told me I was too early and to please leave the restaurant and come back at the booking time! After standing on the pavement outside for a few minutes, me and my friend returned as instructed and were seated right away. Once seated we were shown the set menu which comprises a few different starters, a choice of 3 mains plus 2 optional add-on items. We choose the mutton and cod as mains and went for both of the extra items, these being fried quail and a mutton sausage. The food was very enjoyable. It was nice to try some unusual items which we don t usually come across, and I did enjoy the spice levels on some of the dishes. While our primary server was very friendly, the meal did progress at a slow pace. There were some lengthy delays between courses, with our main course only arriving at 9:15pm, which was 90 minutes after we had been seated. The place was very busy, and it did feel like staff were struggling to keep up. Given they have only recently opened in this new larger location and are clearly very popular at the moment, I could forgive the slow service, but the bigger issue for me was the portion sizes. Despite adding in both optional items, it still wasn t a filling meal. I would describe it as fine dining portion sizes minus a few courses. The bill for the 2 of us came to £245, of which £45 was spent on drinks. On the pricier side considering portion sizes, and worth noting this bill would have been closer to £300 under the new set menu pricing that kicks in at the end of this month. Overall, while we did enjoy the food itself, the shortcomings mentioned above did detract from the overall experience. It was worth trying out once in my view, but I doubt I would go back
I was anticipating having to deal with a sarcastic/rude male server given the experiences Id read from multiple reviews (and the unwarranted obnoxious tone that is used to reply to many of these). In the event, the all female serving crew were friendly and casual, and made for a really enjoyable lunch. The set menu was lovely, and we particularly enjoyed the sauce and yams that came with the smoked eel. The extra sides werent particularly special though - the jollof + plantain helped to fill us up, but the chunk of aubergine felt underdone (and therefore retained its chewy texture), the carrots were fine, and the bitterness of the endive felt overpowering.
Short walk from Oxford circus tube stop. Small Interior-ground and lower floor level. Interior:some African vibes with the divider/ Partition for tables Design and colour. Open plan kitchen with views of the chefs. Very affordable:Lunch- 2 amouse, mains and desert with additional for another pre-starter and jollop rice as a side for £7. Amouse: fermented rice cake was excellent-nice crunch with the walnuts and butternut sauce. The bean fritter - Akara, with rhubarb was good but when compared to the fermented cake wasn t as good. Mains: four dishes:the main and the additional rice Jallop. Biggest dish: Nice curry sauce, smoked eel- which was a small piece. The butternut squash was underdone so too hard and tasteless to eat. The smaller dishes with the Jollop rice with Banana was ok The accompaniment of Carrot was blend however the Aubergine was nice and crispy. The Fennel was again to subtle. Desert was nice- three main components- crispy flower , fonio ice cream and carob custard- beautiful combination with textures. Cocktail: suya and smoke: tequila based was strong, sour, sweet and spicy Service very good, attentive. Shame about the mains not being perfect.
Great food, service and ambience.
We had a wonderful time, the staff were so attentive and great energy. Food was stunning! Cant wait to return
Great food, very good price and the service and chef were a delight. 10/10 and happy to go there again.
just had our so anticipated dinner. Good taste, new experience of food and was so keen to try. However as seen by a lot of review, i shall go along that the food is not enough!!! having done a lot of Michelin, in Uk and abroad and my honest judgement is the portion are not enough, and i am surprised it triggered a Michelin. Apologies for being so honest, in another country i doubt the star would have been attributed. The starters too minuscule, the desert is way not enough to complete a tasting and the main without the rice would not fill anyone. it has loads of promises and probably potential however do pay attention to the critics and several reviews, the portion isnt adequate for the price and a michelin quality. And the price is going to 95 pounds
What a great way to introduce people to Nigerian food. Can not recommend this place enough.
Fantastic set menu with West African inspired menu. Great cocktails. Be warned about the spice levels though.
Great food. On the spicy side but that s fine for me. But I have some advice for people booking a table here. Ring up and specifically request not to sit at the table, downstairs, by the entrance to the toilet corridor. This table is also right by the waitress station. Really when you pay so much for a meal, you should not be seated here. Almost ruined my evening. I also gave this feedback by email directly to the restaurant and they didn t even respond. The food is the draw. Service isn t yet close to being 100%.
Excellent meal. A well curated tasting menu. Genuinely spicy (but a manageable level). Delicious cocktails, got the smoky mezcal one and the pineapple one. Only feedback: I personally had trouble hearing the description of each course, but that s minor and a me problem
The service was helpful, friendly, informative but not intrusive. The food was stunning, the standout dishes for me were the moi moi, like nothing Ive ever tasted before, the ginger rice and the incredible soursop ice cream. Nice vibe, even the hand wash and lotion in the toilets were top drawer! Food : 5/5
Incredible and so worth the Michelin star
Lovely restaurant. The food is definitely worth the michelin star it was awarded. Everything was perfectly spiced, comforting and super tasty. Two reasons though why I cant provide the five star review: 1. The service was a little slow, took a while to get servers attention- they did tend to avoid eye contact. 2. The drinks didnt have a lot of volume and Okra Martini was a little strong with not much taste- I am sure martini fans would disagree, just wasnt to my liking. All in all though, great food and wonderful vibe.
Amazing restaurant with high quality food and service. Visited with a friend and we were taken care off for the whole night. The food was perfectly timed between each course and it was fantastic. Highly recommend
Bad and disappointed experience. I booked a dinner for one just within 2 hours before the appointment. Before I arrived, I was still curious how it can be so easy to make a same day booking. After I got there, I found the lower ground floor was totally empty with only 3 tables were being served. I ordered the dinner menu with an extra goat tartare plus a glass of white. Honestly, the starters were quite good with distinct regional feature which finds a good balance between spicy and sour. Even though there was a long gap between the third starter and the adder tartare, I still felt comfortable and emerged in the special African flavour. The nightmare started from the main, cod fillet, which was recommend by the staff. I felt a little bit confused why she didnt choose goat or the celeriac cake, but still accepted for her must try persuading. The cod came together with a small dish of vegetables and a bowl of rice and fried banana. What shocked me was the cod went bad with a smell of light ammonia but not fishy smell. I rose my hand several times until I was noticed. The staff took the cod and replaced another one in 15 mins, but still without any explanation about this issue. The replaced cod tasted fresh but no more good point. I felt I was just having my dinner in a street food court. With no outstanding food quality, cooking skill, no mention the pleasure of mouth. I was full by the bowl of rice finally. After paid the bill, there was no reception to serve the stored coat and bag. A manager came to the reception when three men just walked in and she ignored me without asking another staff for assistance. I got my belongings back by myself at the same time she just seated the previous three ones. She said: You had all your things. in an indifferent tone. I felt so disappointed about Chishuru not only because it just got one Michelin star but also because it is the worst fine dining service I have ever had in London. I can not image how the service would be when it runs in a busy time. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I was so surprised by the Chishurus reply. What I said are the facts that I experienced in the restaurant without subjective judgement. However, Chishurus feedback seems ironic and arrogant to the customer. Isnt it more important for you to focus on improving your bad fish quality and indifferent table service? I fell I understand why there was only few customers at the dinner time. Thanks for your response, which is also the most mad and rude feedback I have ever met. I will forward the entire comments to Michelin to see how it will try to keep your one star in such a surprised service.
I thought Chishuru was one of the best restaurants in a long while. I hadnt tried west African cuisine before and I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of the food. Look forward to coming back.
We were so happy to be able to have lunch at Chishuru yesterday, and discover the truly unique flavors of the cuisine, in a relax environment. excellent service and wine suggestions. We will come back again soon ! thank you
Tuesday 27th February. Superb meal with wine flight. Portions good. Probably didnt need the special desert ordered for my sons birthday but we all finished it. Truly memorable meal. (Only criticism if I may, front of house, man, could have a warmer manner)
My recent visit to Chishuru in London was nothing short of extraordinary, marking the single most incredible dining experience Ive had in a very long time. From the moment I stepped inside, I was enveloped in an ambiance that promised something unique, and Chishuru delivered on that promise in every possible way. The culinary journey at Chishuru is a testament to the rich and diverse flavors that are meticulously crafted to perfection. Each dish I tried was a revelation, showcasing a level of creativity and attention to detail that is rare to find. What sets Chishuru apart is not just its exceptional food, but also its commitment to creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The staff goes above and beyond to ensure that every guest feels valued and taken care of, adding a personal touch to the dining experience that is truly remarkable. London is a city known for its vibrant food scene, and yet, Chishuru stands out as a beacon of culinary excellence. Its clear that this is a place driven by a passion for food and an unwavering dedication to quality. In a city that thrives on innovation and diversity, Chishuru is a shining example of what happens when these elements come together to create something extraordinary. In conclusion, Chishuru is more than just a restaurant; its a destination that offers an unforgettable journey through flavors and cultures. London undoubtedly needs more places like Chishuru, where the love for food and the art of hospitality are celebrated in such a profound and impactful way. I eagerly look forward to my next visit, confident that it will be as mesmerizing as the first.
Served food in a chipped bowl which is unacceptable for a Michelin star restaurant. I am not sure how Michelin feels about being associated with such service!! I pointed the chipped bowl out to the servers and they agreed it was unacceptable but did not offer to place the food in a new bowl. I don t have any chipped plates or bowls etc at my house because I deem it to be rather gross.
This was such a lovely spot for lunch everything was incredible I ve recommended it to all my friends
The lunch menu at £40 is a total bargain. The food is inventive and delicious. Truly wonderful - we celebrated my son s birthday and the team made him feel so special.
A relaxed and informal ambience and friendly staff. Delicious food and an opportunity to sample new dishes prepared with fantastic flavours and attention to detail with the presentation. A culinary treat. We felt very privileged to meet the chef who was charming and took time to chat about her influences and inspiration. She greeted us by name which was lovely.Wishing all success to this venture which is highlighting African cuisine.
Amazing food, great atmosphere, friendly service! Really refreshing and different flavours! Will definitely return!
We had the sample menu for dinner, and the staff were really nice in explaining the food and drinks. We enjoyed everything; it felt very homey, and the staff were friendly. There was a good amount of food, and we especially liked their Mafe, which is a mutton cutlet very tender.
Excellent food and service. With wine and extras, a bit pricey though. Food
Really interesting menu of foods never tried before, very enthusiastic (and competent) waitress, and great value for money at £40 for set lunch. Will definitely return!
I booked Chishuru for a late lunch at 1.45pm to celebrate my birthday and we were made to wait for 15 min standing at the door as our table was not ready, so we were seated at 2pm it d have been nice at least to get an extra dish or drink for free or something to compensate maybe? Apart from that, the 2 staters on the lunch menu I thought were very nice but a bit dry and a bit stingy with the sauce of one of the dishes. The vegetarian main was incredible, such rich flavours and textures, but the other main (the Guineafowl breast) nice but again stingy with the sauce. Desert was amazing though so a mix feeling. Not what I would expect from a 1 Michelin star restaurant
Went to the Brixton one and loved it. Came to the new home and loved it. JOKÉ you made history and it is so deserved. Worth the hype
The food was good and had enjoyable flavours. I am a fan of spice and the main definitely had a kick to it. The presentation of the food was very clean and simple. Service was friendly and efficient. Dietary restrictions: I am lactose intolerant and the team had multiple options for me to choose from and a sorbet replacement for dessert.
I loved the décor of the restaurant, right through to the toilets, in chilled earth tones and with visually striking floor tiles. Our main waiter was charming and cheerful and the other waiters who helped bring our food were also delightful. The Sango salsa cocktail had a nice juicy kick. Oh, and the food was superb. Parking: Its 3 minutes walk from Oxford Circus, so best to travel there by public transport
The quality of the good is good! The staff was very nice, too. The reason for the negative review are the extremely small quantities. We are both not big eaters and we know that in such a restaurant quality goes over quantity but we left very hungry. The interior is very minimalistic. Overall, the price of 75£ for an essentially three course menu does not match the experience we had so there sadly we will not come back.
Excellent service and overall a wonderful experience of west African fine dining. Super proud to be a part of it
Really exceptional meal in warm surroundings. Food is creative and delicious with a perfect amount of spice. Cocktails great too and the wine list is very well put together.
Very unique and delicious food. Beautiful.
Very good food, nice staff. Extremely small portions - we paid £75 per head for 5 courses and left hungry. I recommend you go here after you have collected a red reward from Nandos - you ll need to go somewhere for dinner afterwards and the discount will come in handy.
Inventive! Hot chillie spice overpowered all the other flavours in all the dishes except dessert - left with burning tongue. Main dish - cod was cold & a little undercooked but rice piping hot, so issue with plating timing. Plantain, rice & dessert with lemon marshmallow was tasty.
Very much enjoyed the dinner. The set menu has an arch of spiciness and wonderfully balanced tastes and textures. Will definitely return.
Incredible dining experience. Five courses, each one delicious. Most expensive meal I ve eaten but it was worth it.
Set lunch for two, 30th Jan. A wonderful, interesting and unusual meal for the amazing price of £35 per person, ex VAT. We had the pleasure of meeting Adejoke Bakare, the delightful owner/chef who cooked our meal. The service was quick and charming. We will for sure return soon. Book now, it s not a big place.
The lady who greeted me bounced me off the door Think she may have been the manager? Seemed authoritative but maybe she was just hungry or something Food : 5/5
Overall a disappointing experience: 1) We were seated at probably the worst available table, even though the other tables remained empty throughout the evening 2) The service staff was not very attentive, drinks came with a significant delay and empty glasses remained empty 3) The food was okay, although we left the place disappointed, as our memories of Chishuru from when it was still in the other location were so much better
Love love love! One of my fave London meals. Amazing good, service, chef. Just wish it was still in S London so I could go more often ;)
Congratulations to Chef Adéjoké!
Food was epic throughout, pepper soup and mafe out of this world! Joké even came down from the kitchen to chat to the guests which was an awesome touch
Don t understand the hype at all. Overpriced fare with portions too small. The food is seriously underwhelming and I am genuinely perplexed at the publicity and the M star (seriously??) - everything is average and frankly dull! The guy at our table was quite grumpy too! Not coming back and not recommending too
A truly superb tasting menu experience that showcases the creativity of the chef and the possibilities of West African cuisine. Fully deserving of their first star. Everyone should go as soon as they can before getting a reservation becomes impossible.
Now, three weeks in the past, my dinner at Chishuru stands in my memory as the best restaurant meal I have ever had, and that includes more than one Michelin Star restaurant. Aside from the delicious preparation and the simple but beautiful presentation of this West Arican cuisine, the owner brilliantly circumvented the natural tendencies of diners to avoid unfamiliar foods by offering a Tasting Menu. I ate things I would never have ordered a la carte. Thank goodness for this exceptional and wonderful experience. Update: Now, two years after writing the above review, I learned that Joke has achieved her own Michelin Star: I am thrilled and not in the least bit surprised. You deserve it. Congratulations!
I loved the food at Chishuru. The breadfruit was delicious. The guineafowl was perfectly grilled, luscious, tender, and full of flavour. The fermented rice cake and the ekoki corn cake reminded me of southern Indian food, but very definitely had their own character. Both were delicious! The lady who served us at our table was very nice, attentive and helpful, an excellent server. I usually dont post negative comments about service, but am breaking that rule here. The man who received us and took our coats was standoffish when we arrived, which we took in our stride. But as we left, he called our jackets ridiculous. This was because we had down and outer rain jackets on a windy, rainy day. We said we didnt like being spoken to in that way, and the man acted like nothing had happened. A real pity (and irony at a restaurant celebrating food from Africa) that a middle-aged, white, male server spoke to two Indian customers in a demeaning way. Left a bad taste in the mouth after an otherwise excellent and enjoyable meal.
Food was amazing. Full of flavours and creatively put together. Service could be improved.
Went here for a birthday dinner and it was soooo good! The food was authentically Nigerian while having such a fun, fresh spin! It was an excellent experience which I have to applaude the servers for doing a really good job at being engaged, helpful and ready to answer questions. I will definitely be recommending this restaurant and be back in the future!
Its not often I find a restaurant where I know I will definitely be returning and Chishuru is one of these The atmosphere was great and the decor was really relaxing. The staff were all warm and friendly Every dish in the set menu was packed with flavour. My absolute favourites were the bean cake which has a strong kick to it , and the Goat with coffee and peanut sauce, a very unique combination of flavours that worked well . My only complaint is that the peppersoup was served in a bowl that made it difficult to take a good photo but the soup itself was delicious and the spiciest thing on the menu . The other notable thing was the aroma of the fermented rice cake starter, which really set the tone for the evening and all of the delicious dishes to come after it I did not know when to expect when my husband booked us a table at a Western African restaurant. I am so grateful however to have found this place. I will be making another reservation soon and strongly recommend you do too
Excellent service and unique flavours!
The food was definitely michelin class, guinea fowl was perfectly cooked the quail is possibly the best battered chicken I have ever eaten. The starters, Sinair, Ekoki and my mango sorbet was like a flavor bomb.Definitely going back.
My third visit to Chishuru. Ill definitely be back. Had a brief business meeting for lunch and my guest loved it. The Yassa Chicken was sooooo good.
