It is a very nice place, great decor and in a fabulous location just off Trafalgar Square. Unfortunately we had booked for festive afternoon tea but was left very disappointed. First they didnt have a reservation for two people so they had to check with the kitchen they could still give us food plus were vegetarian. The portion sizes that arrived were disappointingly small for two and the bread was stale. It should have come with three cocktails and we got the first while sitting and waiting for the go ahead. The second one didnt materialise and the third one came when we had finished our food and had to ask for it. We felt a bit left out, as if we were a bit of an inconvenience and the food was rushed just do we could stay. Im sure we would have had a better experience if they hadnt lost our reservation but I dont think well be coming back any time soon. Ive had better afternoon tea local to home and for considerably less money

Had great cocktails in the bar, and fab breakfast the day after.

We went here for New Years Eve. We had booked the rooftop bar months in advance. We called on the day of the booking and spoke to a staff member who confirmed our booking and said we would have our New Year s Eve with a view of London Eye / fireworks! We got there for 22:30pm on 31st December (an hour and a half before 12am) to be told that the rooftop was fully booked. The staff tried telling us, as well as 3 different groups of people that we ALL made a mistake when making this reservation, and we booked the main restaurant and not the rooftop. Apparently the email said Rockwell Team at the end of the email and not the Rooftop Team , although the email was from Rooftop, Rockwell Team There was a man, from a different booking who had planned a proposal and they wouldn t even let him go up for one drink of Prosecco to ask his partner to marry him. Not once, we were offered a free drink or got an apology from staff. There is a lot more to this story but it was an awful experience to say the least. It was my husbands first New Years in the U.K. and this whole experience was a really upsetting way to start the New Years. We had been planning this for months and to get there and be sat indoors in a restaurant was really unexpected. We had no choice but to accept the offer as everywhere else would ve been fully booked and we didn t want to be in the street, freezing cold. So we went out to see the fireworks amongst thousands of people and left after 12am. For somewhere that is over 4* I would ve expected more understanding from staff, especially on a NYE. I have worked in hospitality for years and I ve never experienced such bad customer service.

Good spot to relax between two meetings, comfy decor and amazing wine by the glass... Small thing ! Seat far from the bar or back from if you dont want to listen to the waitresss gossips or seeing them picking their nose

They accidently gave wife the wrong cocktail. She didnt noticed it at first, because the waiter was so fast to apologize. For us it was no big deal, but she did get the original ordered cocktail and the other one was on the house. Thats service A+!

Chic and practical establishment thank you for the towel in the toilets

I went here for my birthday and I honestly wish I hadnt. From walking in, no one gave us service to take us to our table : the doorman from outside came in to find us our table even though there were 2 women at the front looking after one man, clearly seeing we were standing there. Our drinks came fine and the house white wine was actually really lovely. We ordered our food; my friend found hair in her chips and my other friend ordered a steak medium-well and it came back medium-rare, that is a huge difference. By this time our sides hadnt arrived either. They sent their meals back which meant we all ate at different times, I am a type 1 diabetic and took my insulin accordingly to my meal, it arrived but because I was so fixated on ensuring my friends meals were ok I didnt realise that my Chicken Milanese was so rock solid, I had to then ask for a steak knife. More commotion happened because wed now finished our drinks and wanted something for our meals and so my friend went to the bar to ask for some service as there was no staff around. By this time, I was upset that I couldnt eat let alone drink and had taken my insulin. We asked for the manager, who was so rude.He did not allow us to speak and kept getting defensive, to the point where my friends swore (in conversation, not at him) by which he took as we were swearing at him...he then said we were looking for a free meal. At which point I got really angry because I was not using my diabetes in vain to get a free meal - if I didnt eat in time I would need an ambulance. I took out my insulin pen to prove it which I didnt need to. We asked for the bill, we asked him to bring it which he didnt. His waiter who was so lovely and listened to us - brought us the bill with everything except my meal. We asked for it to be changed as we did not agree. They took my meal, wine and sides out. But we did not need this attitude or bad service. It was not even busy that night. Absolutely horrible experience.

The restaurant looks wonderful and dishes was great. The staff was very kind and attentive to details. Mauri, the bartender, was a very professional and at the same time friendly person who delighted us with superb drinks and accurate explanation of the story behind their creation.

London would not be the same without a visit to Rockwell for drinks and dinner. The service from the beautiful and charming Elena ( ) was exquisite. A breath of fresh air after a long day of walking and sightseeing.

Very nice place but we couldnt consume anything. We come all the way from France to live in the english culture for a few days and we couldnt even get a tea cup from there. There is a minimum spending of 20£ per person just for tea. They dont have a tea menu, when we asked for it we got a food menu. So what ended up happening is that two clients willing to consume did not consume anything and left a bad review. Thank you not thank you.

4 star Hilton group hotel have bar on ground floor more looks like a jungle bar , cocktails are quite bit expensive .bar dont have much selection of the spirit . Bar manager was not welcoming person was busy on the phone . I have to be wait to be seated not focussed on job .

Best Sunday roast at Trafalgar Square London

Cocktails are beautifully prepared. But there are definitely tastier ones . There is a lack of a professional bartender who would invite you to observe his work with his professional actions. But the staff are really nice and helpful.

Went for cocktails which we enjoyed. The ones we ordered were incredibly strong, so just check or Google before ordering so you know what to expect. The service was great friendly staff. The place itself is soo pretty but it is very quiet so has more of a calm ambiance. A nice place to go to get away from the hustle bustle.

An unexpected delight. My friend and I enjoyed a wonderful afternoon tea at Rockwell. Delicious food, wonderful and unique cocktails. Service was impeccable, combined with warm and friendly staff. I m still talking about this place a week later!

Food

I was tired so I stopped here for a quick drink. The service was great and if it were based on service alone, Id give this place a 4 maybe 5 rating. But the cocktails were less than impressive. I didnt enjoy the espresso martini. The coffee had been watered down or certainly tasted as though it had been, and the other signature cocktail wasnt exactly a winner. The decor was nice enough and the location is fantastic but Im unlikely to return as it was quite pricey for cocktails that were less than stellar. To sum up, style over substance.

I had the Winston cocktail which was very creative, well presented and tasted great. However, service was very slow and there was something not quite right about the ambience. Cant quite put my finger on what was amiss. Could have been the fake plants or the lighting levels, perhaps. Wouldnt necessarily discourage others from giving it a try but wont be returning myself.

Service slow, drinks not great. Had the the afternoon tipple tea, the whole experience was way too sweet and the service was slow even though it wasn t busy at all.

6 of us met and celebrated our friends birthday on Friday. Great ambience, friendly attentive staff, delicious food- my favourites were, chicken liver parfait, pulled beef sliders, crispy butterfly prawns fried squid, chocolate pave and glazed pineapple. Looking forward to returning soon.

Had a great evening at the Rockwell. Went for birthday drinks with friends. The cocktails were lovely and the staff gave a lovely explainion of each drink we ordered. Great service and beautiful location. I will be back!

Nice music and cosmopolitan atmosphere with really friendly and smiley staff. The side we had were really delicious and the cocktails were some of the best I ve ever had. You can get a nice bottle of wine for £32 which isn t too bad for the area. This isn t usually the kind of place I would go (more expensive) but I was pleasantly surprised with what a friendly, lively atmosphere it had!

Would never return to this place. We wanted a nice relaxing drink after watching a show and walked into a pretty much empty Rockwell. We were seated and given a drinks menu where we waited, and waited and waited. It was like the staff forgot they had customers to serve. 3 staff were leaning up against the bar just staring into space and the man in a waistcoat who we assumed was the manager and had seated us, just resumed his position staring at an empty doorway. This is not the kind of experience we would expect at such an expensive place. I can see other people have commented on the poor service so it is clearly not a just a one off and no excuse for it when it was not even busy. The staff need serious training on customer service if they want to survive in high-end hospitality - which this most certainly was not. A strange and unpleasant atmosphere and a disappointing experience.

Disappointingly terrible. Out of four glasses of champagne, only two were delivered. After two chases for each. On a quiet Saturday afternoon, ordering and getting a drink shouldn t be this hard. Pleasant enough staff, but no apology and generally haphazard. Avoid.

Lovely space - and lots of it - to have a quiet cocktail or two in a delightful relaxing environment despite the hustle and bustle of Trafalgar Square! Refreshingly new unusual cocktails alongside extensive wine list, beers and spirits. Bar snacks served plentiful and will try some small plates next time - they looked delish! Cheers!

Went for tipple tea. All breads were stale and choux buns were dry too. The foie gras is misleading this was for sure paté and not real duck liver. The drinks replenishment was not on point. Experience a bit too sweet but the location is very nice.

Please avoid this restaurant, save your money or spend elsewhere. We went there on Saturday night and left very disappointed. The food was horrible and well overpriced. Out of six starters, one was tasty, the others not so much. The chicken escalope was dry, overcooked, difficult to cut with the knife, left more than half in the plate, so did the other guests with their mains. No one came back to check on us, even when taking the payment waiter didn t bother to ask if we enjoyed our food. No one offered second drinks, the plates were not cleared, dessert menu not offered. I regret now for paying service charge which was nearly 50 pounds. Atmosphere? What can I say. If you go to any high street restaurant the atmosphere will be 10 times better. Clearly needs a lot of improvement.

Beautiful decor and elaborate cocktails - mine came in a bottle in a straw-lined box. New menu is good. Lost a star because the loos were out of service and had to take a lift to the 6th floor of the hotel, which requires a keypass to get back

We found this place while walking around Trafalgar Square as we had a table in a restaurant nearby later on in the evening, so we decided to stop for a drink. What a lovely surprise. Staff was super lovely, they drinks were stunning, honestly one of the best drink I haver had, the staff also accurately explained the drinks which is a plus and shows how professional they are. Really nice a great staff

Recently l took my girlfriend for a festive afternoon tea and l was very disappointed with the whole experience - and it cost me £80.00! When l arrived, they did not have our booking for two people and we had to wait over half an hour for confirmation from the kitchen. After getting confirmation and another long wait the afternoon tea arrived and what we received was very poor. The portion size was disappointing, the small finger sandwich was stale, and the cakes were barely worth the effort. I could have eaten what was given on my own,it was not enough for two people. The afternoon tea was also supposed to have three cocktails, only two arrived, one before we got our food and the last after we had finished our tea and had to ask for it. We did not get the third one. The service provided by the staff was very poor. I felt we were forgotten about and left to it. I would not recommend this afternoon tea, I spent a lot of money and do not feel I had value for money either.

Hyper annoying to see the optional double digit tip added to the bill just for those of us coming from a tipping system (usa etc..). Dont fall for it! None of the locals do. Why should you?!?

Great food, service and staff

This is one of my favourite bars for cocktails. Its a beautiful setting with excellent service and relaxed atmosphere. The wine selection is medium to high priced with a good bar menu. The crispy oversized triple cooked fries are my favourite. I recommend the Aviator for a well conceived cocktail experience. I highly recommend a visit.

Very expensive and just mediocre. Staff was very nice but did not do a good job. We had the prefix menu and they brought the courses in the wrong order. They also were not very attentive. Would not recommend at the price point.

I have travelled the world , it has been one of the worst experiences ever! It took 1hour and 40 minutes to be served! The food was bad to average, then took another 25 minutes for the desserts that we denied to eat. Each course, starter main and desert was 92pounds, the manager offered just to take off the cost of the desserts as we didnt eat them! Really bad dont waste your money to go there!

Very pleasant bar located in the St. James Trafalgar Square hotel. Pleasant atmosphere with a jazzy touch. Great service. Went here as a nightcap after the meal and also had a super tasty crème brûlée. Can recommend this bar to everyone!

Excellent bar service. Inventive cocktail menu. They make a mean gin martini if you want to order off menu. It s a really welcoming ambiance with a sleek decor. Certainly worth a visit if you re in the area.

Visited on saturday night. The ambience and decor was very nice. The food was also good. I had Steak and triple cooked chips which I thought was rather good. However, most of the dinner tables are suited to large groups 5 or more. If you visit with a small group you will be seated at round tables which although comfortable are not conducive for dining. My main gripe was that the staff were not attentive. It took 25 minutes for someone to ask if we wanted to order a drink. We had to then get staffs attention to order our meal. When we order our drinks after the meal they completely forgot to bring them. Exasperated by all the waiting we decided to just get the bill and cancel the drinks. The staff who brought us our bill explained they were short staffed. I would have been more patient if they had mentioned this at the beginning rather than at the end. I would visit again but only for pre or after theatre drinks.

The atmosphere here is very relaxing and decadant. The staff are absolutely great, very endearing and engaging. I was here to read and work on some research. I was happy to hear lovely jazz music that was at the right volume too. There is a great choice of seasonal cocktails, plus a wide variety of bespoke liqueur too. I did not book, but it might be advisable to make an enquiry for a large party of six or more.

Went for dinner on a deal. One of my worst experiences ever, stuck in a basement with no atmosphere. One starter was decent but the rest of the food terrible. Steak was burnt and flavourless! Service was middling. Whatever you do dont go here

Pleasant, peaceful - not cheap. Good place to enjoy a glass of Prosecco while waiting for table at the Rooftop Bar.

Large relaxing bar with a pleasant atmosphere

Went here for a 3 courses lunch deal on a Sunday. The place was an absolute joke, We turned up to an empty bar completely void of any kind of atmosphere (first Sunday in December). The bar area had not been cleaned after the hotel breakfast served here - the proof of this would be a) a slice of buttered toast under my friends chair and b) the cleaner starting to vacuum the place in the middle of the lunch. As we were on a deal, we were restricted to the set three course menu but you would hope that participating restaurants would take the opportunity to use their deal to introduce new costumers to their establishment and showcase what they can do so we were not too worried. However, the food that was served was tasteless and badly prepared at best and outright inedible in some cases. Grilled mackerel with watercress, cucumber at horseradish turned out to be raw mackerel covered in Teryaki sauce - the fish had never been near a grill at all and was just a slimy piece of sweet, raw fish. We tried both of the remaining starters as well but left most of it on the plate as it was all pretty unappetising. The main course risotto was outright dangerous as it contained unidentified rock-hard black 1/2 pieces (of what might once been pieces of mushroom?) - luckily my friend spotted them and fished them out as they would without a doubt caused serious damage if bitten into. The bass was slightly underdone but freshly prepared as opposed to the lukewarm and dry Puy lentils on which it was served - but again no seasoning and pretty tasteless. All in all, it was a pretty dreadful dining experience. The waiting staff and manager did what they could and were polite and helpful (the star is for them) but I will never come back.
