Service, food and ambience is excellent! Been several times over the years, and never disappointed. First time for brunch, and as good as dinner. Best prime rib! French onion soup always a hit. Can’t go wrong with the bloody’s.

December 4, 2024

As a Lawry’s long time VIP, this is a tough one; especially since I have been enjoying this particular restaurant for over 40 years. I hosted some out of town friends a couple of Fridays ago and had one of the worst restaurant experiences, by far. We have regularly enjoyed going to the Tam O Shanter, whenever we get together. To start, our waiter was terrible. He was super slow, spent way too much time socializing at the other tables, and actually lectured us on the place and how to order, even though we’d been here over 100 times. He made several comments about how busy the kitchen was. Our drinks, beer and wine, took 15 minutes to serve, the salads took 20 minutes, which seemed longer than normal, but our dinners took over an hour to be served. We were seated at 8:30 and didn’t get our Prime Rib, Mashed Potatoes, and creamed spinach until 9:45! We had pretty much lost our appetite, as it was so late. One of our guests ordered an onion soup that came out rubbery and cold. It was so disgusting that they didn’t want to even look at another onion soup. Some guy who looked like a hippy, straight out of the 70’s, in total overly casual clothes, came up to us to apologize. It took us a few minutes to realize that he was the manager. Al he could do was say his kitchen was so busy. We’re like thinking, “The Prime Rib is already cooked, as are the potatoes and spinach. How long can it possibly take to serve up a few plates?” When the food came out it was lukewarm, at best. The meat was tougher than normal and the Yorkshire Pudding was like a rock. We ended up packing most of it in doggy bags. The manager gave us a discount, but my main concern was how bad the service has gotten in what used to always be a high standard of great service, clean restaurant, and delicious food. Looking at other recent reviews, I am deeply concerned that something has shifted within the management of this once fine-dining establishment. We have a 30 year history of coming here right before Christmas, but I think after this experience, we will be passing on that, this year. Definitely Disappointing!

Book a table if you want the restaurant - if not you will get a bar table or booth which is nice and just as good. You need to BOOK, BOOK, BOOK though because this place gets packed - when we came out there were almost 10 cars banked up in the street waiting to get in the car park and the foyer was packed of people waiting for their table. WHY - because the food is amazing!!! I loved the Shepherds Pie and the boys loved their steak. We did not have any problems with our meals. The guys filling our drinks up was good - the rest of the service was hit and miss. We had a great night out, we found our families tartan (they have different ones all around the place and the lady at the front can tell you where yours is), the place is beautiful and there were not much negatives.

Such a cute little spot, the server was very knowledgeable. Went here for my birthday, and she was so sweet she told us the story about how Walt Disney used to dine here and how this is LA's oldest restaurant. She made some suggestions that were pretty awesome. The cheese dip and toasted bread were so good! I had a popular dish (name escapes me at the moment). It includes the creamed spinach, mashed potatoes, and the pudding. I also had the French Onion Soup, the cat's pajamas! Check it out! My boyfriend had the thicker cut! He said he really liked it, too. A few days later, he told me he was still thinking about it and couldn't wait to go back! We will definitely be back

Somehow when I was looking for steak place on the internet, this restaurant did not show up. I was about to go to another restaurant but didn't like that place, so I saw the sign of this place nearby so that was why I ended up eating at this restaurant. I found out later that Tam O' Shanter is the oldest restaurant in LA! Building inside and outside inspire by Disney fairy tale style. Service and food were great and amazing. I had onion soup, watermelon salad, 14oz steak, couple of drinks and sundae. I feel I was so lucky to find this restaurant at the end.

This is a favorite, special-occasion destination for us. This time we were celebrating a birthday. Reservations are recommended because the place is pretty much always busy. And if you book fast enough in advance, you can get “Walt’s table” where Walt Disney would frequently dine. This time, we selected the bone-in ribeye and the California City prime rib. Both prepared expertly and delicious!!

This place is so cool! The inside makes me feel like I’m in a Disney movie set. The food is quite lovely! The service was incredible and everything came out at a great pace. Their creamed corn was definitely my favorite side! I am really looking forward to coming back for brunch!

Recommended if you enjoy overpriced, generally mediocre (bland and overcooked prime rib dinner, $59, Vegas mass buffet level quality beef), 5x wine markup, non-attentive-to-poor service (host, waitress), frequently interrupted by loud and out of tune caroling for ambiance. All yours for $125 a person, and thats before the 10 + tip valet parking.

This is one of my familys all-time favorite restaurants. It was a busy saturday. I believe they had a party of 80 inside. We were sitting outside. The staff was very friendly and nice, however the service was very slow. Rather than having my usual Prime rib, I noticed that the prices increase quite a bit since we were there two years ago. The smallest cut of Prime Rib was 47.00. I got the brisket platter which was brisket delicious Yorkshire pudding and two side dishes. I found the brisket to be on the dry side. I will love this establishment forever but prime rib is definitely their magnificent specialty.

I was disappointed that the sandwich lunch menu is gone. The brunch menu is lackluster and does a poor job replacing it. Service was pretty rough - nobody checked on us so we had to flag down an employee to put an order in. Food arrived with no silverware so again had to wait a while before flagging down an employee who could help.

Great food and Service

December 2, 2024

The place is filthy. The air handing vents are covered with dust and dirt. The bartender washed , and rinsed, the used cups in filthy dish soap water and the filthy rinse water . The service at dinner was extremely poor. I waited 25 minutes for a glass of water after telling the waiter 3 times!! The prime rib was over done, wife s selection, and my prime rib was rubbery. Service was slow. We were afraid to order anything to drink because it might come from the bar. The only thing positive was the Christmas program. But for $411 dollars ,for (2) it s not worth it.

Rough experience for our first time! We were very excited to try this spot but unfortunately everything fell flat. Menu items not available after ordering. On top of it, our replacement we ordered never came. Could have just been unlucky. The restaurant itself is cool and I wish we had a good experience.

December 2, 2024

So sad this place is a ghost of the former Tam we used to love.. Shepherds pie was actually rancid (had to send it back) and Toad in the Hole was COMPLETELY dry with no gravy hahaha couldnt even believe they brought out sauteed beef on dry bread. Atmosphere is still great but who cares when the food is no good? RIP Tam

December 2, 2024

First, it breaks my heart to leave this review. The Tam is a special spot for my family. I have been going here since before I can remember. I had my wedding rehearsal dinner here, my grandparents 50th anniversary here, my grandparents got engaged here in 1944, and my grandmother came to the Tam when she was a little girl- back when horses were the main vehicle pulling up at the entrance. We had her memorial service reception here. So, we ve been here more times than I can count. We ve always loved coming to the Tam and eating some of the best Scottish food this side of the Atlantic. Second, I am not one to typically send dishes back or raise a fuss. I just don t like being that person. But sometimes it IS necessary. So when I say tonight was a different Tam experience entirely, I hope you believe me. The toad in a hole was so dry. The puff pastry was overcooked and tough- couldn t cut through it without a fight- and the meat seemed like it was stir fried and just scooped into the pastry. No liquid at all. No gravy. No au jus. Nothing. We sent it back, and they brought it back with cold brown gravy dumped all over it. Not the best solution, but at least it helped soften the bread. Side note: this dish used to be overflowing with meat/veg/sauce, but we ve noticed that steadily decrease over time. Which, for a $38 dish really isn t acceptable. We also ordered the shepherd s pie and had to send that back because the meat tasted spoiled. I didn t even ask for it to be remade. (There was also a gross layer of oil between the mashed potatoes and meat filling bc it s all topped with cheese and the oil from the cheese sinks down). Anyway, the server did apologize and thanked us for bringing the spoiled meat issue to his attention and took the dish off the bill. But this is definitely NOT the quality I have experienced over an entire lifetime of coming to the Tam. Minor issue compared to the others, but the exterior lettuce in our wedge salad was also turning brown. I cut off a few portions and put them to the side and ate the rest. As for service, I ve never had a bad experience! And the atmosphere is something special. It really does feel like you re in Scotland and just stepped off the Royal Mile for a bite and a pint. So, no complaints there. I just wish the food was better.

Had dinner for 4 on a Friday night. We didn t have a reservation but we were able to grab an open 4 top in the open seating pub area. We ordered 2 French onion soups and a shrimp cocktail for appetizers. We got the shrimp cocktail, but didn t get the soups. Our server didn t put the order in. We each ordered the prime rib. The food arrived cold, and the doneness and sides were mixed up. My cut was ugly, with the bone still on, and hard to eat. My iced tea was never refilled by the server. He didn t check on us at all throughout dining. Maybe this is just how they treat people in the pub area? No idea if it would have been different with a reservation. Pretty bad experience overall, especially for such a high priced dinner with high expectations.

Went here for dinner last night and was surprisingly disappointed. Ive been wanting to go here for many years and had very high hopes. The charm of the restaurant is the only draw. The food was mediocre at best and when asking the waitress for suggestions she was more interested in upselling me than giving genuine recommendations. The restaurant was also not the cleanest and the floors were filthy. I myself got the burnt ends appetizer which was just fatty pieces of beef (most likely trimmings) in BBQ sauce. Filet mignon was my main course and Im convinced they got it from Sizzlers across the street because the quality of the meat was subpar at best. Mashed potatoes were extremely basic with no flavor. Im honestly perplexed by all the reviews praising the food. Definitely try it for yourself but I myself will not be going back.

Smells so meaty it will make you think of the year 1975. Suddenly everything around you will change. In a blurry, dreamy way. You will find yourself wearing sans-a-belt slacks. Strawberry red plaid. Of course. Blazing white penny loafers on your feet. And a brown, corduroy jacket over a bright yellow polo shirt. And thats when the eating starts. A full and sloshy tub of mashed potatoes with a solid gallon of rich, brown, thick gravy. Oh, gravy!!! Crisp and only slightly blackened green beans. Thick, round and orange carrot slices so good they almost slide directly off the plate and into your digestive system! And then the meat! Man, oh man! The meat!! Me ... with a side of ... eat! Meeat!!! Meaty meat! Beef! Thick, juicy, sizzling. So good that people not only dont mind the tacky 1970s clothes you are wearing. They want to sniff every stitch. If only to reenact in their minds the gluttonous fantasy you have made come to life by consuming this existence-changing meal amid the slightly dimmed mood lighting and wood paneling that makes this place the landmark that it is. Man! I am so hungry now!

We were seated in Patti s section. I have been going to Lawry s in Beverly Hills for over 50 years and never had service like this. Even her assistant was exceptional! Her recommendations were excellent! Everything was superb from the Prosecco, Russian River Pinot, lobster bisque, onion soup fondue with Gruyère, warm sour dough bread, whipped unsalted butter with a side of Malden salt, perfectly prepared prime rib, creamed spinach and the chocolate soufflé. Come to find out they serve sticky toffee pudding! OMG we will have to drive to the OC again from LA very soon! Thanks again Patti, we truly appreciated you! Just Plain Awful, Avoid Like the Plague! My family has been coming here for 6 generations (since their opening) so we know what we are talking about. To start, the beer was warm and flat, the martini was made with the wrong brand of gin and it was dirty without request. The irish mule was undrinkable and had to be replaced with a different drink all together. The Rarebit was grainy and lacking any substantial flavor. The watermelon in the watermelon salad was bitter and unripe AF. The mains were awful as well. The fish for the fish and chips were the size of chicken nuggets and completely overcooked. The prime rib was obviously pot roast (we ordered an end cut so I suspect they thought we couldnt tell the difference). The Mashed potatoes and gravy both tasted instant, watery and were a miniscule serving. The creamed spinach was dry, overcooked and tasted like alfalfa. The Caesar with crunchy chicken was dry. The salmon was dry and overcooked. We were so fed up at this point we just resigned ourselves to the fact that this place is obviously riding the coat tails of its formerly glamorous self while driving its reputation to the ground. Dont fall for the history of this place, its not at all like its been for the previous century. We are sad to say we will never visit again, it truly was just that awful.

saw this place on social media? Went to disneyland this weekend and decided to check this place out. The service was amazing. Theres every conceivable whisky available and they make good drinks too. We all had various cuts of the prime rib. This was the most delicious meal I have had and in contention for beating House of Prime rib in SF. The only thing lacking is the yorkshire pudding, but honestly I havent found anyone who could accurately make one outside of England. This was a place where Walt Disney would come to eat regularly, so there is a historic table there. The decor may have inspired some of the cottages of Snow White and perhaps sleeping beauty. Quite the expensive ride at nearly $100 per person but we also splurged on a starter, four prime ribs, adult drinks and two whisky drams.

The place just didnt feel special, as you can tell with their staffs dress code and the decor. Maybe it is the sign of the times as their Lawrys in Beverly Hills has also lost their elegance. Then, the treatment was not the same for everyone. I saw ourselves not given the help as others. No biggie, except I noticed it which is bad. P

So its old, its been there over 100 years, I should respect that but its an emperors clothes thing. The drinks are not cheap, and frankly, the burger & fries were horrible. The fries felt & tasted like the frozen kind and burger tasted like the meat patty also tasted frozen. The brioche bun wasnt. Service; actually very good. Parking; strictly valet- street iffy Worth it? No, two drinks, two burgers over 100 dollars?!!?

I hear the food is really good and it is a lovely atmosphere. However, as an owner of a 300 year old half-timbered house in a town with lots of these houses, and a lover of this building style, the face of the building pains me greatly. What are some of those beams supposed to support? And if nothing, who would make such a messy decorative beam design? Why does America do this to us - oh, my heart.

I think its long overdue for an update as to the diminished quality of service at the Tam O shanter. Since its closure during the pandemic, it has never returned to its former and original glory. First, long-time popular favorites were removed from the menu. The deviled eggs, and worse, the dessert souffle? One explanation I got was, The new chef didnt think they were Scottish enough. But French Onion Soup is? The overworked wait staff cut down in number to a ridiculous TWO in the Pub on the busiest of Friday nights. The closure of the long-time favorite Sandwich Bar. One more position evaporated. Last but not least, the decline in food quality and the inconsistency of portions. Their famous peanut coleslaw is hit and miss. One night, you get good amounts of peanuts along with the original dressing. A few days later, 3 peanuts in the same side of slaw that tastes of vinegar and not much else. One lunch, I received a side of just shredded red cabbage. No peanuts whatsoever. Brisket Sandwichs seem to be made at the discretion of the cooks. At the same table, we had one brisket sandwich served with very little meat, barely lifting the top of the lesser quality kaiser roll they have started using. Yet the other sandwich had 3 times the meat. It was quite the discussion at the table. Finally, the Tams famous hot fudge sundae. It used to come in a tall, sundae glass filled to brim, ice cream peeking over the top. Now, in much shallower dessert cups with much less ice cream. And oh yes, all this is yours at a substantial price increase. Yep, there are fewer options. Less food. Less service, yet we are charged higher prices for the name on the door. Its very hard for me to let lifelong, favorite places go... but I will no longer be recommending the Tam. I cant in good conscience. Ive gone to the Tam for almost 65 years. Theyve shown no respect for their clientele. They could have done better.

If you arent going to Tams during the Christmas season, youre missing out on your Christmas Carol fantasy. Period clad carolers take requests, cocktails are served in tea pots, the charm is endless. If you dont want to commit to a whole dinner situation, you can still feel the vibes by just going to the bar and having a tasty cocktail. It can get quite busy, so if youre dining make a reservation ahead of time, and if youre hitting the bar consider your timing.

Wanted to come on here and show some love for an awesome night. I love a place that is exactly what it s meant to be. To me, Tam offers a historical story, great food, and casual high end service. Amaya was personable and the rest of our wait staff were attentive but not overly so. They allowed my friends and I to enjoy our meal from start to finish. Prince Charles was juicy with good flavor. The spinach was seasoned and not too creamy. You must get the brisket on with the gravy fries. The drink selection was top tier with a good selection of beers, spirits, and creations. We came here in a large group to celebrate my fiancés birthday. Food was standard pub fare -- not bad, but nothing spectacular. Everyone had a good time overall. The hostess, however, was rude right off the bat. Based on recent reviews, I believe her name is Donna. I informed Donna we were down 1 guest; she appeared irritated and informed another FOH employee standing next to her, who rolled her eyes in response. My fiance and I have worked in the service industry before and we understand some days are hectic. It was a busy Friday night and busy nights can be stressful; we totally get it! That being said, we were surprised by the two FOH employees behavior. It made us feel awkward and unwelcome. This was not the experience we had anticipated receiving at a well-known, historic LA restaurant.

Ive wanted to eat at this restaurant for quite some time since it was one of Walt Disneys favorite restaurants. The atmosphere was really nice. I loved the Scottish pub feel, and the décor throughout was nice. I like that theres a plaque on Walts favorite table, and while I didnt get to sit there, I did go look at it and get some pictures. The service was great, and our waitress, Missy, offered suggestions on what to order. I ordered the salmon, and my friend ordered the filet mignon. My salmon was cooked perfectly. We also each had the French onion soup for an appetizer. The soup was nice and hot, and the cheese melted perfectly on top. We also each had a cocktail, and they also had a nice flavor. We didnt order dessert because we were so full, but they did have a nice dessert selection on the menu. All in all, it was a nice dining experience.

The service was great. Besides the thrill of eating where magic was made, the food is great too! The prime rib is amazing! And there are some really good looking drinks to choose from. I would definitely recommend it if youre in the area. Dietary restrictions: My sister has Celiacs disease and they were able to accommodate some of the dishes for her allergy. Parking: There is a small parking lot attached to the restaurant. Wheelchair accessibility: No stairs and there were tables where the chairs can be moved out of the way.
