Alpina Restaurant at Villa Eyrie Resort in Malahat

Dec 21, 2024 - Brunch. Taylor, our welcoming and always wonderful waiter, reminded us it had been a while. All too long since our last visit. Todays brunch featured for different Eggs Benedict plus many other delicious dishes. I heard one of the other diners praising the chicken and waffles. The Bennys (smoke salmon and avocado, and Parma ham) were perfect. They came with a tasty salad and half a bushel of roasted potatoes. Great staff, great food and to-die-for view of the Saanich Inlet. Hope to return early in the new year - probably again for Valentines Day. February 14, 2024 - Valentines Day dinner at Alpina. We were so happy to see both Jack and Cindy at the restaurant. They both greeted us warmly and gave us the best seat in the house. It felt like a private dining room! The menu was sumptuous - with a huge platter of cold seafood starters, their signature sourdough rye bread and crazy cheese buns. The main was Cornish game hen for two - carved at your table. However, we had arranged for something a bit more special and were perfectly accommodated. The dessert platter was equally impressive. Molly made sure our food was served perfectly. This is our go-to boite for every special occasion. The regular menu is to die for and they always have seasonal promotions. (had to delete earlier posts because of space limitations) Vegetarian options: Always lots of options on every menu. Parking: Has upper and lower lots.

Its a little far from any neighborhood in greater Victoria. However going there for food specially for weekend breakfast is best choice. Breakfast was great with reasonable price. Nothing can beat the view with delicious food. Will see you more and more!

Foodie heaven with a view! We ate breakfast, lunch, and dinner at Alpina during our stay at Villa Eyrie, and every single meal was incredible. The food was delicious, the portions were generous, and the presentation was beautiful. Dont miss the halibut - it was cooked to perfection! Honestly, this restaurant could hold its own in Torontos competitive food scene. Highly recommend!

Well, since the restaurant wants me to elicit a response, rather than keep the mediocre experience to myself, here goes: The staff were initially pleasant enough, but service was slow and inattentive. It took one of our party getting up to walk over and interrupt socializing staff to get their attention for the cheque. The orders were inexplicably slow from the kitchen with no check-ins by servers. The food is passable, but priced high even considering the nice view. Furthermore, the default tipping options start at 20% or more, which coupled with a poor experience is a turn off. Best of luck to management, the place has exceptional potential.

The food took 1 hour to arrive. This is not acceptable when we are paying top dollar at a resort. We expect better service. This better be the best tenderloin Steak & Frites that i have ever had which was priced for $64. Edit. They did however comp our meal which was nice of them and showed me the level of service they like to give. I did go back and edit this review from a 1 star to a 3 star. The waitress Molly was extremely friendly, nice and apologetic. Which we really appreciate it.

The food is incredible, but our group had to wait a very long time to eat. The waitress did warn us it would take as much as 45 minutes (it took over 2 hours). As frustrating as that was, our wait did seem to not be the norm. If there was delays thats understandable, but there was no communication about that while we waited. We ate there a few more times during our trip, and each time the service was great and the waits were not nearly as long. Very high prices, but that was to be expected. Beautiful view of the bay and mountains, just as most of the resort has. The fries were INCREDIBLE, the burger was also very good.

The view was breathtaking! Staff are friendly and professional and food is amazing. I enjoyed my Caprese egg Benedict and everyone else liked what they ordered. We definitely go back.

Luxurious place to eat and stay

I placed an order and picked up food after 1 hour waiting. I couldn t believe it when I opened the box, as it was the worst quality of food I ve ever paid for. Egg was not poached, food was moving around, veggie is not cooked. I paid over $100 plus a decent tip over $20, and this service and quality dissappointed me a lot. Prob the service is only good for dine-in.

Had breakfast there a few days ago with my girlfriend. Hands down, the best breakfast I have ever had; and I ve eaten at some pretty amazing spots over the years. My gf also said the best breakfast she s ever had. A little pricier than most places, but so worth it. We agreed we will make it a monthly ritual to drive there from city, and next time will be for dinner.

This restaurant is a hidden gem just outside of Victoria. We love all the dishes we tried and I think we have tried all the dishes after many visits. The view is breathtaking, the atmosphere is fantastic, excellent venue for special occasions or to spend with your loved ones. They have added a few more new items on the menu lately and the service has improved time after time. Jack, the Manager always ensures you have the best service, and Cameron (not sure if the name is spelled correctly) is top quality and professional in his recommendations on the menu. The only advice I have is to provide more options of light desserts that are not too sweet, to end a meal with a touch of sweet would just be fantastic.

Went for lunch. Waiting staff were pleasant and attentive but food took an age to arrive, despite the fact that we were the first table to order for that sitting and it was a very small order. My burger was pleasant but patty was missing the flavour of the best places. Fabulous setting and views.

Next level brunch

What a shame - this spot has every chance to be special. The view is amazing. Unfortunately, the service was horrible. It was exceptionally slow and unthoughtful. Here are some disappointing highlights: - we noted in the reservation that we were celebrating our engagement. Not a single acknowledgment - it took ~15 minutes to receive service when we sat and ~30 minutes from arriving to receiving our drinks - the server took my order and then didn t take my partner s? She had to come back and ask for his - she confused the dietary restrictions on the dishes so I had to change my order - they brought the wrong order for my partner and it took about 20 minutes to bring his actual order - the food was unremarkable. Very basic. - they brought us the bill and overcharged us. She defended charging us for adding scallops to the Pan Seared Scallop Risotto. Seems like the kind of thing that includes scallops, no? - I thought it was remarkable that given how poor the service was that, on top of over charging, they didn t acknowledge the poor service or offer any sort of discount on the bill. They either had no idea how poor the service was or they were apathetic. Both are unfortunate possibilities. I will say the one positive of our evening was the sommelier. He was a ton of fun, knowledgeable and the only person who seemed to grasp how pathetic our experience was. So for the view and the sommelier, 2 stars. We left a 15% tip for that. Otherwise, nothing positive to say.

We (three german ladies) had a remarkable night. The staff was amazing. Very attending and caring and pampering us with a special greeting for our birthday girl. Then we got a special treat, because an incident shocked us and the staff was worried about our mental state :-) Everybody and the food was just wonderful, but on top of all was Hannah with her unique way of being special, exceptional caring and great fun! Went for my wifes birthday along with two family members, food was awesome, view was almost perfect, cloudy weather sucks. :-) I wanted to point out that our waitress Molly was the best I have experienced in the business! She was spot on with everything we needed without asking, had a sense of humor and overall very pleasant. Kudos to her and again the food, charcuterrie board, and the Surf and Turf was what it should be. ONE thing I need to say is the carpet around the table should have been cleaned up after the last guest but not a big deal because we mainly looked at the view and our food. ;-)

The food, the service and the atmosphere is 10/10.

We went to celebrate a birthday and could not be happier with the entire experience! The view from our table was breathtaking. The waiter was attentive, amiable, and efficient without being intrusive. The selection of drinks is far ranging. From Rose wine flights to standard highballs to 25 year-old Glenfiddich to house specialty drinks to beers. Menu has so many delicious choices. From burgers to snitzels to pastas to duck. The dessert menu is small, with each item having a big flavour punch (we shared the dessert platter with all selections on it!). Definitely will be going again!

If I could give the Alpine 6 stars I surely would! This is my new favourite restaurant on Vancouver Island the service was very professional and warm. The maître d went out of his way to seat us with a fantastic view, by request. He checked in on us to ensure we were enjoying our meal and thanked us when we left. The food exceeded all expectations. Best eggs Benny I have had in over a decade. And the house roast potatoes were the best Ive ever had, seasoned with fresh rosemary and cracked salt. The chef really understood his seasoning. The views speak for themselves. And the pictures dont do it justice. You really have to see it for yourself. We will return again and again! Excited to try lunch and dinner too! And maybe hear some live music by the grand piano Vegetarian options: My granola bowl was flavour packed, bright and a great portion size! Just returned from a visit to Alpina Restaurant at Villa Eyrie. As we have come to expect, the food was delicious, service was excellent and the views overlooking the Malahat are simply amazing. We especially like their brunch menus.

We had an enjoyable meal at Alpina for my partners birthday. Our entree, mains and dessert were all cooked well and presented beautifully; thank you to the kitchen team. Just a couple of small things (and reason for not giving a 5 star here) first was the lack of wine service, we purchased a $117 bottle of wine and were told dont wait for me, youre welcome to pour it yourselves whilst totally fine at a casual establishment I did feel it should have been the waiters responsibility here (we ended up pouring the entire bottle throughout our meal). And secondly I did mention it was a special occasion in the booking notes and whilst I never expect anything from a venue (Ive worked in hospitality for nearly 18yrs) the table directly behind us received a birthday plate with candles so it did leave me wondering if wed missed out somehow. As I said nothing major and we did enjoy the overall experience, especially those views during twilight, cant really be beaten. Vegetarian options: Plenty of vegetarian options available. Parking: Plenty of parking available (although we didnt attend in the height of summer)

Fantastic food, friendly and pleasant wait staff, and great attention to detail.

We had been looking forward to a special dinner all week, but sad to say this was a disappointing visit. Service was excruciatingly slow, our server seemed more interested in chatting with her friends (maybe) at the table behind us. It took 45 mins to get our starters and another 45-50 mins before our mains were served. One meal was completely wrong (schnitzel instead of scallops), our server offered to order the scallops right away but by then we were all so hungry we said forget it. All 4 schnitzel dishes were dry, one was burnt and the spatzle was cold. When it came to paying the bill, you would think if they served you the wrong meal after waiting 1.5 hrs they might comp that dish or at least discount it nothing! I was also a little taken aback that the tip % started at 20% and went up from there! Good thing there was other as the 12% I gave was more than I wanted to give, but I didn t want to short change the gal who was so on the ball at keeping our water topped up. Nights out like this are a once every year or two, so the disappointment stings a little more, I suppose.

I came here on Monday for lunch after a trip to the Malahat Skywalk. There are plenty of open tables for lunch, but if you want to get seated next to the window to get the best view, reservation is highly recommended. The food was superb and very nicely presented. They have the brunch menu available during lunch time. We ordered the BLT salad and the Nutella crepes and both were very good. I would like to have more salad options and soup available for lunch. The service could be improved a bit. We told the waitress that we were going to share the food, but she didnt bring us extra small plates until we had to ask. We also noted that we were here to celebrate a birthday, but we didnt get any birthday greetings at all.

View was amazing even with it being a foggy evening. All the staff were exceptional, host was friendly and welcoming. Our waitress was outstanding and made our 10 year anniversary dinner so enjoyable. The food was delicious and house created cocktails were fantastic. We will definitely be back again.

The food took a long time to get made, but it was understandable as we had a bigger party. In a place this expensive, known for taking more than 45 minutes for the food to be made, there was nothing to snack on. The food was a bit dissapointing for the price, the wine sauce for the hen was just boiled down wine with no added flavors or fats, as one example. At least two people in our party got food poisoning, and it is from this restaurant, we didnt dine anywhere else.

The experience was so positive for our anniversary that we had to return with our grandson to celebrate his special birthday as an adult. Cameron our server was in top form with his many positive suggestions. The spectacular view and extra special birthday treats made this an exceptional evening. Meal presentation showed creativity and a birthday plate worth framing. Our only suggestion is to trim the excess fat (not all) on the Rib-Eye. Will be back with friends!!

Good food quality views. Be prepared to break the bank.

My sister was celebrating her 30th birthday here and I went to the effort to call ahead to order her bubbly to her table. They requested I fill out forms, send photos of IDs, credit cards etc. after all of this effort on my part, they did not fulfill the request. When I expressed my disappointment they tried to say they had comped her dessert instead - when they actually paid full price for a dessert. Quite disappointed that a restaurant of this caliber couldn t figure this out.

This is our second year taking our Mom out for Mothers Day Brunch at Alpina, and yet again this year it did not disappoint. The views are magnificent, the drinks and food are everything you could hope for and the Management and staff really look after their guests. Its truly a treat and a gift to experience this restaurant, and youre worth it! You will not leave disappointed.

Fiancée and I celebrated a year of being engaged at this incredible restaurant, which I heard about from a patron at the bar I work at. We arrived early for our reso and they had a table available- the best table in the house. The view was ridiculous. The food was immaculate, the steak I had one of the best of my life. The soup we split at the beginning was lovely as well. Molly was our server and she was a pro and treated us so well. We hope to come back again, and next time we ll stay the night!!

Breathtaking View @Alpina Restaurant , try the charcuterie board it is amazing

We had dinner here. Food was amazing and fresh. Portion was good for us but it could be smaller for some people. The food was very slow even thought it s a weekday and the restaurant is not even full. The waitress had very good service and kept reassuring that the food is coming.

View 5/5 Food 4/5 Service 4/5 Ambiance 3/5 You are paying for the view, and the view is gorgeous, many tables are positioned in a way so most will get a window table looking out. The food was good. But nothing very exciting. I was expecting it to be something extraordinary, something to cherish.. but it wasn t. It was good, but the many different types of foods don t really go together. Japanese, Italian, German, American.. so if you plan on sharing with your partner or getting a starter I would stick to trying from one of the styles of cuisine. When reserving they ask about food allergies, but they never really checked again about it. So I asked after ordering because I realized we didn t talk about it. In fact one of the dishes did contain that and they offered different options for me. I could ve checked sooner, but we did inform in advance, so I thought that would ve been communicated to the staff, it wasn t. The food and drinks took a very long time to arrive.. 15 min for the cocktail then another 20 for the appetiser then another hour for the food.. The music was very low so you could hear everyone s conversations even when they spoke quietly. So it s not a very intimate setting in a lot of ways. Couldn t help to feel like we were constantly being up charged. Like the waiter asked if we wanted bread in a way that made it sound like it was complimentary, it was not. Thankfully I looked at the menu before some of the questions. The wine was alright . One glass we actually wanted to see if it had gone off, it tasted so acidic. Apparently it wasn t according to them. I love wine and hate to be a bother but the Malbec we ended up enjoying was much over priced for an okay wine. The experience was alright. Nothing terrible, nothing bad, the food was alright, the view was beautiful, I wouldn t go back though. And it s a bit pricy.

Absolutely fabulous views of the Saanich Inlet. We happened to get a nice table after mentioning we were there for our anniversary. Presentation of the food really nice. Portions not too small. Very friendly waiters, although we felt a bit they were trying to upsell. (Bread sounded complimentary, but it was a $16 appetiser) We tried three wines but were not very much to our satisfaction. The Malbec was good. The kitchen was apparently overwhelmed, since we had to wait over an hr for the food. Atmosphere definitely a bit more serious then casual, the room was a bit silent and music was very dim that we were concerned to even talk without bothering the next table. Food was good, but it seems like you pay more for the view and the presentation. We were perhaps expecting just a bit more from the other reviews, but overall a nice experience.

My favorite restaurant by far! We sometimes go when they open for breakfast and there is plenty of room for the littles. The view pays for itself and the food is always delicious. The service team is friendly and on it!

I feel confident that the server had some sort of bias or prejudices as she served EVERYONE before us over and over again. She also proceeded to humiliate and told us we didn t know food (basically) in front of the ENTIRE restaurant. I booked 2 nights as a celebration for myself but the restaurant ruined the experience unfortunately .

Had my birthday lunch here as we had previously breakfasted and dined at Alpina and felt it justified a return visit for a special occasion The view is stunning but this is eclipsed by the food and service. The charcuterie board was huge (our server did advise us of this when we ordered) It had a perfect balance of ingredients beautifully presented. We had the sable fish for our main course and again delicious combination of flavour and style. The whole experience was enhanced by how wonderfully Izzy took care of us, it was not a busy time being a weekday lunch, however Izzy was attentive and efficient whilst allowing us to relax and savour both the food and ambience. Well worth the drive from downtown (or the ferry trip from Brentwood)

Weve eaten here multiple times now and enjoy the drive up the Malahat for a special dining experience. The menu is great and the food is delicious. The dishes themselves are well prepared and presented. The view into the Saanich Inlet is also spectacular. Overall, its a terrific experience for a nice evening out.

I had an amazing experience here, our server was Kayla, I heard that theres two so this was the Kayla with long brown straight hair! She was prompt and very welcoming, bringing our food out super quickly and the food itself was immaculate. We were here to celebrate a promotion and Alpina did not disappoint. Our food was beautiful, the view was spectacular, and we were even surprised with little truffles for dessert.

Spectacular location. Food was great. Very professionally presented and clean establishment. However, it was not a busy brunch and our two meals took 45 minutes....for eggs. We ordered a second coffee just before out meals arrived to enjoy with the meal. Unfortunately, the coffee never arrived and our waters were never refilled. Asking for our bill and mentioning that we never got our coffee, we were asked if we wanted it in a to-go cup. When the bill was presented the server was clear that they took the coffee we never received off of the bill for us. So very kind of them to do that. /s

A beautiful experience on every level

Lovely view and great food overall. Shayla our server was attentive, personable, and had just the right amount of interaction with us. The Scallop Risotto was cooked perfectly. The Duck breast was delicious, but it was a bit weird that the Japanese horseradish potatoes came in a bowl on the side.

This is an amazing restaurant. The food is always spot on and delicious, the atmosphere, this the incredible views, is off the charts and the service is always excellent. Highly recommend this restaurant.

It was located in a beautiful resort, tucked away from the city but less than half an hour from downtown Victoria. The place was elegant and sophisticated. We asked to be seated by the window with the best view. The view of the Inlet was amazing. We ordered the charcuterie board and It was delicious and did not disappoint. The portion was humungous and perhaps good for 4 people, we couldn t finish it as we were saving rooms for the rest of the meal. For the main entree we had the seared scallops rissotto (sweet tasting butter like texture scallops and the rice was cooked perfectly) and the prosciutto wrapped sable fish (A flaky fish but also smooth and silky, with the crunch and saltiness from the prosciutto balanced with the creaminess of the potato mousseline). A dinner priced well for the portion, flavour and quality. We will definetely come back for the food and might stay for a night or two the next time we visit. Must be awesome to wake up during sunrise with a view of the Inlet and mountain ridges.

Superb. The staff and the views are amazing but the food is the star of the show. We had an appetizer salad which was perfectly dressed. And scallop risotto and schnitzel. The quark cheese cake was out of this world flavorful. 100% recommend!

I love coming here. Its always good food, good portions and I have to say the best desserts Ive ever had in a restaurant. Come early and walk the grounds, its a stellar view!

Absolutely an excellent experience. We are new to the island and this is a total gem!

Lovely setting, however the dinner was a disappointment. My $66 ribeye steak was not even a half inch thick (Ive never seen a ribeye that thin!), and nothing like what I expected. It was tough with more gristle than meat. The sauce was tasty, but not the steak. My daughters sable fish was bland; she was not impressed. My wifes salad was fine, so thats a plus. We were really looking forward to eating there, but tbh I doubt well be going back. Ive had better steaks for less than half the price, and we dont need to go out for a good salad...

Yes, its quite spectacular! I am but a lowly slob amongst the unwashed masses, and yet they treated me like royalty! Seriously though, the food was excellent, atop of any Ive had in Canada. The staff are eminent professionals who provide attentive service without the exceptionally annoying hovering thats typical of so many restaurants. And the spectacular west coast view rounds out the exquisite atmosphere. Book your reservation immediately!

A resort and casual restaurant with a great view. It is high in the mountains, overlooking the mountain lakes. Under the golden light, I lost myself in an instant. I came early and sat at the best view seat, but it was too sunny. The waiter was really nice. He was considerate and smiling throughout the whole process. He also asked us if we had any holidays to celebrate. Mr. H said that yesterday was our anniversary and even sent us a chocolate liqueur dessert. It was so rare. The appetizer is beef bone marrow with bread - the top beef bone is very delicious. The milky yellow bone marrow is full of milky aroma. When you spoon it, it is like jelly. The second bone is not good enough. It is a bit impurity and bloody. The best thing is that their home-made sweet and sour onions are too delicious. Tired of it Ginger mashed potatoes with honey duck - this one is just average. After all, compared with other Chinese duck dishes, it is much inferior. The duck meat is half-cooked but not tender enough, the texture is too rough and the skin is soft. The mashed potatoes are still better with shredded ginger. The side dishes are quite novel and are sweet and sour but too salty. Pork and Mushroom Cream Stew - This is their classic dish, but its really greasy. The pork tenderloin is not very tender and a little bit spicy. The sauce is extremely thick and the creamy meat sauce makes you feel greasy after eating too much. It is paired with German egg noodles wrapped in invincible dry ingredients. The sauce is really not delicious. This dish needs something refreshing to go with it. Overall, the price/performance ratio is good compared to Seattle fine dining, but the taste is really average.

Just had the best restaurant experience of my life. Celebrating our 10th anniversary, Molly made it so special. She is the greatest! The manager Jack was a awesome aswell. Thank you so much for making our anniversary dinner so amazing! The food was spectacular and the dessert was to die for. Will definitely come back again and again.

We visited the island in the summer and luckily stumbled upon this place! The waitress was so lovely and actually paid for our coffees as a friendly gesture for our visit to the island. Highly recommend this place. The food and the atmosphere are both amazing!

Its a really nice place to eat. Bring your sunglasses because the view is bright. The food feels on the fancier side, the staff is trying to be professional and upper class. It feels somewhere worthy of an occasion.
