Tewkesbury Road, Berrow, Malvern WR13 6JQ, United Kingdom
Honestly the best country pub I have been in, we took a chance on a Saturday afternoon to try grab some food after a local recommendation and they couldn’t have done enough for us. The staff were so attentive and made us feel welcome immediately. The food was just incredible. Anyone anywhere near this place get in and go make your day like it did ours
Couldn’t recommend highly enough. My partner and I visited here on a Saturday afternoon for some lunch. We didn’t have a booking; however, the staff were so friendly and accommodating and found us somewhere to sit (despite being very busy). The food was incredible and there was a lovely atmosphere in the pub. Would definitely return in the future. Thank you!!
A popular country pub that seems to be thriving whilst others struggle. The reason is obvious. Pleasant owners who engage with their customers, equally friendly and efficient restaurant staff, excellent food at affordable prices, a good range of beers and a great atmosphere. And no, I'm not being paid to write by this!!
We ate here whilst visiting the Malverns for a few days. I searched the local area and so glad I came across this place. The pub is great, the staff are all smiles and the food is exemplary. Fantastic meals (we had the liver and steak and Stilton pie) and I'd go as far as saying it's the best garlic bread I've ever had. Just wish we were hungry enough to try one of their many home made desserts!
The Duke of York is a lovely, traditional pub serving delicious meals with great service. The evening meals are always lovely and we also enjoy popping in for lunch as the sandwich menu, (served with chips, coleslaw and salad) is brilliant value and so tasty. The interior is cosy, there's also nice outside seating, and the bathrooms are also spotless which is great. We think it's the best country pub in the area by far. Highly recommend!
The best food I have ever seen in my life and also the service is very excellent, so if you want to see happiness you must come to this restaurant Thanks a lot for amazing team and nice restaurant
Super friendly almost family like. Great English pub food and fresh beer. We would love to come back here any time.
Even the menu is a normal pub menu, but food quality and tasty is beyond the normal pub food. Drinks are nice and dessert is definitely worthwhile £6.5. We don’t think the service is slow especially we visited in a summer Saturday night. Dog friendly as well, plus cute decorations. Just be little bit patient, drink, chat and even walk around (there is a filed just close by), but good food never can be rushed.
Great food and great service,if you want a great meal at a reasonable price then this is the stop for you
Lovely food & beer & puds
Cant fault the place excellent all round
Great food ,lovely friendly service, recommend to anyone looking for good local home cooked food ,definitely go back .
From the moment we stepped through the door we were made welcome, Great Sunday lunch, excellent value and toffee cheesecake to die for ! Thank you
Excellent all round. Dog friendly, plenty of parking.
Lovely country pub, friendly, clean & great food, liver & onions was delicious, steak excellent & so was the curry. Thank you will definitely be returning!
Great little pub, good beers friendly service. Kid-friendliness: Childrens play area outside Service : 5/5 |
We booked for an evening meal for my son and his groomsmen on the eve of his wedding - we couldn t have had a better experience ! The landlord was so welcoming and his staff fantastic , nothing was too much trouble - even the landlord giving the lads a lift home rather than booking taxis . The food was equally amazing . A huge thanks to everyone at the Duke of York for a night to remember !
Vegetarian options: Good options Food
A long story cut short. My experience of this lovely family run pub was exceptional not only was our evening welcomed by the staff and landlord it was a busy and very hospitable but when I discovered I had a flat tyer at 2100 the landlord wanted to help. I explained I live Milton Keynes and needed the car. For the next day He recommended me to leave the car on his property and he would take me back to Hereford. (30mins) The next day the landlord had got all the right connections ready for me to get this fixed it took all day but got there in the end the landlord was very helpful and cant thank him enough for his support. I will always stop at this pub now when I pass, beautifully presented inside and out and very welcoming definitely need to book a table for next time Keep up the good work and thanks again Parking: Plenty Kid-friendliness: Very friendly
Lizzie and Shrawley have the best local pub, bar none. They are more than capable of hosting your event. The patrons they attract give the place an old world bon homie, the staff are always friendly and welcoming, and Shrawleys rich, booming, cheerful voice harks back to the best of landlords. The food is great pub grub, in good quantity, and they do have a few gluten-free options on the menu. All in all, if youre passing near the Malverns, you wont go wrong stopping by for a pint or two. Dietary restrictions: Theres three or four gf options for mains
A fantastic place to visit the owners and staff are just fantastic
Delicious Sunday lunch, nice and hot, will go again. Desert was lush too!
Good food. Good atmosphere. Excellent service. We keep returning because of this. Dietary restrictions: Good choice for gluten free
Had lunch here, good food and service. Lovely pub.
Absolutely amazing food. Lovely friendly staff.
Stumbled across this place while purchasing wood across the road. It is a little gem! Great welcoming atmosphere and fantastic food. Very reasonable priced with superb service. Looking forward to going back!
Ate at the Duke of York twice during our recent stay in the Malverns. Absolutely impressed from the initial phone call to the end of our second visit. The place is lovely with real character, the food is absolutely excellent (I particularly enjoyed the Liver in red wine sauce) and the service is as good as it gets. Friendly and efficient. A particular shout out to Evie - wonderful customer service. Locals are really friendly too!
Traditional country pub with excellent choice of food.
Absolutely fabulous !!
Great choice in beer, dog friendly and good food
wonderful.Sunday lunch, great staff and lovely location. Book to.avoid disappointment. definitely would go again.
Youll always receive a warm welcome and excellent food
The food was hearty but over seasoned and over cooked. Still, a nice pub with nice staff. We would return.
Great food and good service by friendly welcoming staff
An absolutely lovely and quaint place to have a meal. The atmosphere is that of a local pub with delicious food, amazing staff and a lovely atmosphere. It caters for gluten free needs and has an abundance of vegan and veg meals to choose from.
Very good food as always. Also good value for money. Quite often it is busy so book in advance. Takes time to order and get the food so dont go expecting a quick meal during peak hours. There is a children play ground and parking. Parking: Parking at location Kid-friendliness: Play ground
From Malvern, Ive been passing this place occasionally for years, but has either been closed or Ive been heading somewhere. Went for lunch today with my wife, and couldnt fault it. Nice clean, looked freshly and tastefully decorated. The food and service were excellent. Friendly bar staff, pleasant owner (?), timely service etc. Oh, and PROPER pie, not that hotpot with a lid nonsense! I had the steak and stilton pie, and there was plenty of stilton in there (its frequently lacking in my experience) and looking at the choices of the other diners, there is plenty of generous tasty looking grub to choose from. Starters were excellent too. Definitely be back!
Very disappointing. Got order wrong when told waitress was asked what we wanted her to do about it?! They did replace the meals but one waitress clearly showed she was not happy about it through our service including the lack of politeness by not asking if we wanted a dessert along with other unpleasant mannerisms. Food was mediocre more pastry than pie filling and dry. Would not go back or recommend.
Delicious food, steak was excellent, service friendly and attentive, price very reasonable for quality of food. Sat outside and enjoyed the beautiful scenery and peaceful setting. Thoroughly recommend.
Popped in on our motorhome travels for food. Staff were rude, unhelpful and made my friends and I feel very unwelcome. A cliquey pub for local people. Avoid.
Rubbish - first they said they had a table at 8pm (it was 7.15pm) then less than five minutes later she said they didn t. What a waste of time
Fantastic country pub, privately managed, delicious food!!
Strongly recommend most things
The food is lovely, portions very generous and staff friendly. Will be back.
It is a great country pub that is easy to get to and allows dogs. (We have three, but we chose to just take the big one in). There is a resident dog who sleeps under the benches and isnt a problem, but our nervous boy had to be directed away from him to remain quiet. The food was pretty amazing. The first night, we opted for starters and mains, but we were so full for the rest of the night that the following night we went, we just had a main. Great portion size and menu choice, with a selected specials board also available. Good choice of ales and ciders and the owner/staff were warm and friendly. Its definitely a pub worth visiting if youre in the area.
We spent a lovely afternoon in the garden, we didn t have food today but that s always good when we do. We were greeted warmly by the owner and the garden was spacious and welcoming to everyone including our four legged friends. A pub you can chill in or out of. Wish we lived nearer. Parking: Lots of parking available. Kid-friendliness: The garden area is well kept and enclosed, there is space to run and a little play zone for the very small ones.
Simply brilliant! Can t help but keep going back! Great atmosphere and friendly owners. I love the dog friendly beer garden and children s play area. Without fail we always have such a great service from the team and we much enjoy the variety on the menu. For a privately owned pub this is the place to be!!
We just popped in and had the best Fish & Chips for lunch Ive had in years, outstanding. The batter was light and crunchy, the chips were crisp on the outside and soft and fluffy in the middle. A lovely pub with a nice atmosphere and great service.
Once again many thanks
Traditional pub food done well. The menu was varied with something for everyone. The desserts were lovely and homemade too with loads of choice.
Great food and service!
We had a great meal here the other night the bar was busy with a good atmosphere. The staff were all really welcoming and attentive. We will definitely be back
Always a great experience. Our favourite local.
Vegetarian options: Good choice Food
Amazing tasting food, great service and fabulous atmosphere. Only issue was ordered a tomato soup, didnt ask if it had chilli in it, have an allergy to it and could not eat it, but daughter ate and said it was delicious and best soup shes had in a long time. I had the homemade chicken pie and that was really tasty and pastry cooked to perfection. Puddings were scrummy too. Thanks for a great meal. Vegetarian options: Great range of options and very good quality Kid-friendliness: Really welcoming, has an 11 Month old with us and she was made welcome and they helped with her meal.
Good menu, nice pies, agreed by friend. Friendly staff.
Great little country pub
Great food; great service from great Staff in a great place
Had an evening meal there it was very nice. Service was quick and the beer was good .
Very friendly and warm atmosphere. The food was excellent. Will definitely go again.
Speculative stop, nice welcome, good atmosphere, nice food and beer. Will certainly return Did return and it was excellent
This is our favourite local eatery. Lizzie and Shrawley have done a great job in transforming this pub and making it the best in the area. Everyone is very friendly and helpful, and the food is varied and always excellent. Super value as well.
Excellent service and food, good value too!
We visited today....phoned last minute with a dog and toddler. Thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience - staff were very friendly and the food was delicious. Thank you!
Good food and excellent service
Lovely local pub, very dog friendly and nice ambient atmosphere. Food was really good, absolutely massive portions! Looking forward to coming back here for a drink some time.
Food was absolutely stunning. Highly recommend the steak burger. Just wow.
What a Gem of a pub.. food tasted like home cooked (but better ) not like the pre-warmed that other places serve. Really friendly gaffer who made you feel welcome and lovely bar staff.. definitely our new local
Great place, fantastic food and super friendly, thoroughly recommend.
Great little pub, friendly staff and excellent Sunday lunch menu- we live in Malvern and travel here as the roasts are so good. Excellent value too - best in the area. Well done all at the Duke of York. Can t wait for our next visit on Easter Sunday! Great beers too!
Great service and the chicken, ham and leek pie was lovely. The chocolate brownie was fab too!
Delicious food, beautifully cooked. Friendly warm welcome. Highly recommend.
Good food, reasonably priced. Staff welcoming and considerate.
Great food, adequate portion size from varied menu. Good choice of lagers and ales. Staff efficient, very polite with a nice sense of humour. Nice country pub atmosphere. We understand dogs are welcome but with prior notice so they can be suitably accommodated.
Good service and good food and drink .Wish it was nearer to my home...
Went for a Sunday lunch, it was very busy.We had our table allocated for 2 hours which was acceptable. Gluten and dairy free was catered for and I was offered a suitable dessert, but I did not have room. Veg arrived already plated up so no personal choice, I would have preferred it served separately as people have different preferences. I has a huge pile of pickled cabbage that I wasnt going to eat. The meat was beautifully cooked and very tender. The staff were lovely and very efficient.
Food was great! Definitely recommend the cheesecake, it was incredible! Service was also brilliant
Lovely place. Beautiful food, nice drinks, excellent service and friendly staff.
Excellent village pub. Good atmosphere.
Fantastic food is worth every penny, and it wasnt overpriced. Friendly staff and lovely to sit outside when the sun is shining. I am looking forward to the next visit.
You couldnt ask for a nicer pub than The Duke. The staff are brilliant, the owners are lovely. Shrawley is the typical booming, friendly Landlord. The food is top notch pub grub with generous portions. All up, my idea of the best English country pub Dietary restrictions: Some gluten free dishes. The usual but nice nevertheless
Excellent .,food , service, friendly staff , Cracking friendly landlord .. beer choice excellent, one of the best pubs anywhere , ever . Thanks to Shrawley & staff,
We only come to the area once a year on holiday, so decided to give the Duke of York Inn a go after reading reviews. We werent disappointed, as soon as we entered (with Buddy the Beagle also) we were made to feel welcome There was no rushing about, all the waitresses were attentive. We both had roast beef Sunday dinner, and can honestly say, it was probably the best weve ever had. For 2x dinners, 2x puddings, 2x pints each and a bottle of wine, less than £80. Perfection.
Very nice lunch good service and friendly staff nice atmosphere lots of parking and had it not been raining we would have sat outside at one of their many tables. My bread and butter pudding was one of the tastiest Ive ever had.
Excellent meatpie
Everything about the D-of-York is lovely, from the building, the friendly staff, the service, the food was excellent too, the landlords chatting to everybody. Couldnt fault it. Kid-friendliness: Garden area, kids menu
Food amazing. Great home made mash with lovely pie!! Enormous slab of cheesecake. Made very welcome. Thanks. Will definitely be revisiting.
Very tasty food, exelent service and very clean everywhere.
Quite busy on a Friday evening but not bad. Great service and food was really nice. Butty Bach ale on tap was good. Definitely worth checking out if youre in the area.
Good value. Pub grub. Pleasant outside space. Would visit again
Excellent pub, food, and service.
Lovely English pub. Food fantastic. Staff very welcoming. Went back the next day.
Our first visit a couple of months ago was excellent, our recent visit not so. They had run out of mash! Pavlova was a meringue nest with cream and a few strawberries. For which we were charged £6.50! Very disappointing and disappointing we didnt complain.
The food and service was exceptional. We were a group of 4 for Sunday lunch, 2 lamb and 2 veggie. Both were perfect, one of our party even said it wad the best sunday lunch she had had! Can also strongly recommend the bread and butter pudding for dessert, just lovely! All the staff were kind, helpful and attentive. Food arrived in good time, we didnt feel rushed but also werent left hungry. Thank you very much for the lovely meal! Vegetarian options: Lovely nut roast for sunday lunch!
It s so nice to experience a true dog friendly place. The food was delicious and well presented, all home cooked and very fresh. I would definitely be recommending this place to all.
Great pub. Went for evening meal. Very goid pub food, very friendly owners. They let motorhomes stay overnight if you eat there.
Arrived without a reservation early on Thursday evening. A table for 4 was found for us and we had an excellent evening. The service was top notch and the food generous and delicious. We will return.
Lovely food, great service, friendly staff
Great family pub great staff.
Unfortunately we didnt eat,
Everything was great. Brilliant value for money. Looking forward to going back!
Nice find, we were escaping the smoke and looking for a country pub, its on a main road but had a good vibe. Will be back to sample food! Good range of drinks and cheerful staff
Regularly eat here! Best round!
Great place, predominantly food based. Staff are friendly, food is tasty and the landlord is a fantastic chap who takes the time to speak to all of the customers. Kids play area too.
Nice English pub with friendly and knowledgeable staff. Food was excellent and a good selection of gluten free options. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free options available
Food very good, atmosphere very warm and friendly. The staff are friendly and very helpful and welcoming.
We met up with friends for lunch and catch up. Great place. You walk in to a cheery welcoming smile and light-hearted banter. Wide range of delicious food served promptly. It was a chilly day but they soon got a warming log fire going to chase away the winter gloom. This was our second time there but well be back. Thank you
11 of us were here for Christmas lunch in mid December. The food was exceptional and the staff were very welcoming and very cheerful. We will definitely booking for nest year!
Went for lunch yesterday- 7 of us- Lunch was really good - Good value - If you are looking for a great pub with great food - Recommend try it out ! Parking: No problem parking
A great place for a meal with family and friends. Food and staff are always fantastic and super friendly Dietary restrictions: We had somebody with a gluten intolerant and the meal was made to suit them
Great fish and chips well worth the visit
We came across this little gem of a place on leaving after a 2 night stay in cradley. We hadnt booked and they managed to fit us in. We had a superb Sunday roast at a very reasonable £12.95. Everything on the plate was perfect. Another good touch was the waitress bringing condiments to accompany the chosen meats before the dinners arrived. This is rare in my point of view and a great service. Thanks to the lovely staff and landlord. You are doing a fantastic job.
COUNTRY pub and restaurant run by friendly owners. Plenty of parking at the front. Food is reasonably priced and home made. Bar is separate to restaurant.
Hosting fox hunting People, makes it a place you just dont visit. A question of moral. UPDATE 29/01 2022: Im told that they have nothing to do with Fox hunting at all. So I will remove this a bit later.
Very warm welcome
We had the most wonderful meal here. There were 14 of us and everything was amazing. Lovely food, brilliant atmosphere (a Tuesday night) friendly attentive Staff. Couldnt fault anything. First visit and will definitely be back. Thankyou
Excellent service, excellent meal, lovely surroundings, everyone was smiley and happy in their work. Our meal was a really lovely experience.
Best pub food I ve ever had! The menu offered lots of great options, but my boyfriend and I settled for ox cheek and horseradish mash from the specials menu. The meat melted in my mouth, credit to the chef and owners for creating such a wonderful meal. Thanks so much to the owner for making us feel so welcome. Great atmosphere and food - would definitely recommend!
A warm welcome, great service, we only had a sandwich lunch, but very nice. We will be back
Very friendly and super food. Lovely roaring fire too!
Standard Sunday lunch....busy, but still good service.
Went to The Duke of York for lunch this afternoon, an excellent pub with great customer service from the moment I made the booking last week. Super friendly and down to earth traditional pub with great food. We had with us a three year old and a new born and the landlord was very accomodating in making sure we had space for the pram and plenty of choices for childrens meals. High recommend and will be back.

Clean, cosy, great food, friendly staff. Definitely go again.
Stumbled across this lovely pub after a day at the RHS Malvern Show. Great pub food with a friendly service from happy staff. Definitely recommended .
Great cider and gorgeous food and a really jovial host made us very welcome, if youre in the area call in and enjoy.

Lovely food, good play area, quite a busy place and the campsite looks good. Staff all very friendly
lovely food and service was friendly and fast .
Lovely pub. Visiting area for a wedding. Nice, classic pub grub. Everything really reasonably priced. Very friendly staff. Were even kind enough to give us a lift back to our Airbnb rather than have to trek back through the fields. Make sure you swing in if youre in the area!
We were staying in Ledbury and found this pub on the way to Tewkesbury and decided to have our evening meal there. We had a nice meal outside the front of the pub and were served well by the staff all evening. The food was great and the beer was kept well too. If we are ever in the area again we will use it again as it is a nice out of the way country pub.
Excellent light lunch.very pleasant hostelry
Delicious food, friendly service, highly recommended
Loved it, what a fabulous find at the foot of the Malvern Hill. Wonderful food, fantastic hospitality, cant wait to return!!

A warm welcome, lovely staff, good service and great food. Well worth a visit.
Best lamb shoulder Ive had in years! The food in general was excellent. Fast and friendly service.
Great place to visit, really excellent food, great beers and a really warm welcome from the Landlord. Been here before and will most certainly be visiting again soon.
Great place amazing food
Amazing food and atmosphere. We will definitely be back. If the owner wants some critical feedback then a little more veg on the mains would just complete the dining experience.
Had lasagne and the squash curry with sticky toffee and lemon pofett to finish. Traditional pub grub and lovely atmosphere
Great meals
Good food.
Excellent choice of real ales Good friendly pub
Gorgeous food.. lovely Sunday lunch.. generous portions..
Nice and friendly good food
Lovely pub and service was great. Food wasnt particularly memorable but decent enough for lunch
Great meal lots of choices and good value for money. Friendly staff lovely dining room. Cant wait to return.
Duke of York Inn hosted the ten of us for a wonderful Christmas dinner last night. Generous helpings, very friendly staff and landlord and the perfect cosy interior that was everything we could have hoped for. Thank you!
Very busy. Make sure you book. Staff were all polite and helpful. Only thing wrong was, as a vegan although there was a choice, i.e nut roast as a main and lovely chocolate brownie for dessert. There was no vegan ice cream to go with it
Food home cooking, not cordon bless.
Superb food, lovely people.
Superb food and excellent friendly service. Would definitely recommend, especially baileys cheesecake if its on the menu
Good friendly local - pub grub hit the spot, decent beer and landlord making it his business to make everybody feel welcome.
Great Food and Great service We stay nearby and havent been for a while but everything was great!
Excellent, friendly and efficient service.
Good choice of food on menu, with limited selection of regular beers, all well served. Cosy and welcoming interior and a pleasant garden area outside. Friendly service and reasonably priced.
Excellent service provided by wonderful hosts. The food is first class and the staff are a delight.
Always a friendly welcome and attentive service.
First visit today and it will certainly NOT be our last. We had superb meals served by charming young ladies. Our only wish is that we lived closer so that we could be frequent visitors.
Excellent pub with amazing food
Very friendly and welcoming staff. Freshly cooked food, so well worth the wait. Reasonably varied lunch menu with even more choice for dinner. Well kept real ales. Highly recommended
Went for a small family function. Lovely atmosphere and outdoor area, lots of space & a play park for kids and a nice outdoor function barn with a mini bar and the ability to play own music. Great pork rolls too!
Had a lovely meal here
Lovely pub, great food and chilled atmosphere would definitely recommend
Awesome Sunday roast, all the usual suspects were spot on, cauliflower cheese, red cabbage, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, tenderstem broccoli all great. The nut roast was full of flavour too!
What a gem of a restaurant!! Very nicely decorated in classic country pub style, really nice staff!, and the food was out of this world! Really tasty, great portions and loaded with fillings! Very good prices, too, around £11-12 per main. Very good selection of drinks, especially gin, local Chase gin served. 100% recommend.
Returned for another Sunday lunch with different family members. Same high standards, delicious food and good atmosphere.
