4 St Ann's Rd, Great Malvern, Malvern WR14 4RG, United Kingdom
Quaint pub offering draft ales and cocktails, plus classic Thai food from the adjacent restaurant.
Matt, Owen and Connie gave us a great welcome. Owen alked us through the menu in detail. The BLT baguette had so much bacon it was great. The garlic mushrooms.on toast were delicious and wonderfully garlicky! The pub went from quiet to rowdy to pleasant. Matt dealt with the rowdy crowd realy well. All.in all q great evening.
Had a great dinner here with a group of friends when walking in the hills for the weekend. The food was some of the best I've tasted in a pub (no joke) and totally unexpected. Staff were all friendly and dealt with everything quickly. To top it off, I left my handbag there and they went over and above (with the help of another customer) to get it back to me. If you are walking in the hills for the weekend and want a fulfilling, tasty and unique menu - come here. You won't be disappointed.
What a wonderful pub, called in today as I heard food was being launched. What a meal! Kudos to the chef Owen, absolutely beautiful food homemade with lots of love! Ordered the lasagne and it was absolutely fantastic. Josh and Baron greeted us on arrival which was great. Thankyou for an amazing afternoon and I highly recommend the Brooklyn lager !
I found the Red Lion on a recent trip to Malvern. I got into the habit of having a couple of pints there each evening during my four day visit. Lovely old pub with a friendly owner who has recently taken over and was busy redecorating. Two very good cask ales on offer. Very friendly pub dog. Definitely worth a visit if ever in Malvern
Wow 😮 what a hidden gem, happened to stumble on this place today & it did not disappoint. The Fantastic welcome we received right from the word go to the great prices across the board. If you are local or maybe taking a walk up the hills ? Be sure to drop in for refreshments. Glad we found it and we will certainly be back. Keep up the good work.
Very nice bathrooms, outside sitting area to front very nice too, food just awful sadly. Only rolls on offer, which was a shame but we went with it. My daughter's originally was just a day old dry bun with one slice of cheese, they did at least swap it to a nicer bun with one slice of cheese. Served on plastic kiddies plates, not like all the photos I see on other people's reviews. Paid £35.80 for 5 drinks and 5 sad little rolls and 3 bags of crisps. Man at the bar very lovely. Dog friendly.
Called in here as The Wheatsheaf wasn't serving food Banging mint and Red lion cheese burger Best burger in a long time Cooked perfect
Amazing food real home cooked food. The steaks taste like no other. Lovely pub very quirky and rustic but lovely atmosphere.
Popped in for lunch today, Fish and Chips twice with dairy intolerance taken into account. Fantastic, friendly service, could not fault it. Will definitely go back, keep up the good work. PS the pub dog is adorable
Quaint and cosy pub. Great fresh food. A real hidden gem if youre in malvern
Recently redecorated feels very cosy
What a lovely meal and service! Happy friendly staff and a cozy environment. Thanks for the birthday surprise!!
Very nice welcome and friendly staff. Best of luck for the future to the young man who has taken over.
Lovely clean place, food was fantastic, friendly guys very welcoming. 10/10 will be coming back again. Dog friendly which is always a bonus.
Great little pub that had just started its new menu when I visited. Well the food was excellent as was the ale nice dartboard too.
Really lovely pub. Friendly staff, super food and great beer!
Literally the best steak and ale pie Ive ever eaten, so much flavour!
Really nice pub! You should come visit and support the local pub
Not doing food yet, but will definitely be back when they do. Very pleasant atmosphere and top notch service. A real hidden gem! Service : 5/5
Always a welcoming atmosphere, Great service with a smile. Live music on a Wednesday night, Very clean establishment . Service : 5/5 |
Found the Red Lion last night and would thoroughly recommend it. The friendliest welcome ever. The new kitchen will be online soon so look forward to returning to sample their homecooked fayre.
This pub was a brilliant pub to go to after a walk up the hills don t see many hidden gems like this pub anymore well worth the visit And very welcoming to the public Food
Good drinks on a hot day walk up the hill and friendly manager with a lovely big dog

First time here over the weekend cam in for the football was great atmosphere and the band that was in after. The pub is great
What a pub! Josh is the top man when it comes to pubs, and this place is about to BOOM. Want the best place to go? Go to this place, always friendly faces and a warm welcome. Definitely come back here
John put in a little dance party Friday 9th March and it was amazing .... all ages there.... fantastic dance djs that were all top quality..... wonderfully friendly mix of people....zero issues......the best nights are always small venues and I had the best night ever with very friendly people
Local pub felt a bit of an outsider atmosphere beer rubbish.
Great pub tucked away on the side of the Malverns, great place to go for a pint after a walk on the hills
Went in for a quick pint, and made very welcome by John. Well worth finding, just up St. Anns Road from Belleview Terrace. Will be sure to return soon
Interesting place nice pizza
Restful stay.
Pleasant service from the female bartender. A Ringwood real ale and large glass of Shiraz for under a tenner. Some booklets available to read about the local area. Located at the foot of a Malvern walk.
Nice beer
Sunday roast was lovely. Nut roast & beef ordered came quickly. Beautifully cooked. Good portions. Staff friendly. Even the dog got a treat. Will definitely be back
Nice pub. Dog friendly. Good outside seating area. The perfect place to end a walk
A good pint and decent service, well worth the visit
John the landlord so accommodating. Had a lovely night, amazing food & live music
A mediocre very dry veggie falafel burger with zero flavour and few chips aka potato wedges, staff very slow and inexperienced. Gave me glass with lipstick on...
Brilliant evening at The Red Lion. Very friendly pub, bartender Jon is amazing (he said to be sure to include this bit in the review). The homemade pizzas are stunning. This was a wonderful dinner stop after a long day of walking the Hills.
Good for drinks but we arrived 5pm on a Saturday afternoon and our friends wanted pizza but were told there was one left, they weren t cooking any more and you can t order anything else at all. Also, they don t do coffee, you couldn t order that! It was disappointing as there was little explanation.
Had a nice drink here - the waitress was very polite
Great pint, friendly landlord and staff. Looking forward to trying a pizza soon!
Ive been to this pub several times since it has got new ownership and each time I have left severely disappointed. I have given it a fair try each time but rude staff, refusal to serve you unless you are a regular who are allowed to stay for lock ins whilst everyone else is turfed out before the pub closes and charging on entry for live music for a local pub is obscene. The attitude of staff when even just asking for water was appalling, and needs a severe shake up. Cant comment on the food, but with wetherspoons down the road I doubt many are eating there anyways. Wont be going back anytime soon.
Nice pub friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere, often have a band on at the weekends and my partner raves about the pizzas
Very nice
It was very quiet. Nothing special but nice staff. Not had good there only drinks
Great food every day except Sunday apparently
Nice little old pub
Would give the atmosphere a 6 when Im present however, there wasnt the option.
Great atmosphere, reseanably priced drinks. The landlord and staff were friendly and accommodating. It was a nice stop off for our walk on the hills
Great Boozer ran by a pound shop looking Liam Gallagher with attitude to match.
Brilliant atmosphere, quality location Best pub in Malvern. The landlord ain t bad either
Great atmosphere, friendly staff and good range of drinks, ideal for a stop off after a walk on the hills too as its dog friendly.
What great food and service. Great friendly welcome
Casual impromptu lunch, nice panini, and pleasant pop. Just happened to be walking past, pleased I popped inside. Cheers!
The worst burger I have had in a long time.
Really lovely food, dog friendly, nice atmosphere.
Fantastic pub for a Sunday Roast. A simple menu done brilliantly. Wonderful service and atmosphere
Been here a few times now, the menu had a couple of options removed but wasnt an issue food was good service was good. And good value for money. If I was going to make any negatives its the sound system is one loop from the bar to the restaurant so as the rugby was on we had to listen to it in the restaurant area it would be better on a separate system with some background music to that area.
It was very nice being able to sit outside in the centre of Malvern. Nice beer although not much choice of ales, and a tasty and nicely presented panini.
Great place for a meal on our weekend away. We had the fish and chips and mac and cheese, and both were superb. Draft ale was lovely and the bar staff were very friendly and accommodating. Definitely recommended!
Huge burgers dripping with deliciousness
A very nice change somewhere new for us to try food was excellent staff really friendly and explain the menu in good detail
We had a really lovely meal there last night before going to the theatre. James was friendly and welcoming and looked after us throughout. Although he was clearly very busy he was calm, polite and attentive. We were so impressed we went back for a cheeky Guinness after the show!
Really nice place good service
Very friendly service, lovely food and really enjoyed our evening.
Lovely little pub, good price for cocktails and staff very friendly
Too expensive cost me 7pounds 20p for pint and half of lager and lime where it cost me 5 pounds 25p for the same plus 2 bags of crisps in a witherspoon pub people are getting gready
Everyone was so friendly. Felt so welcome. Good drinks at a good price. Cant wait to return.
Great atmosphere, delicious pizza, (gluten free available too) great staff.
Met the new owner (Kylie I think her name was) who was lovely; very friendly and helpful. Just had a couple of drinks sat outside in the sunny front courtyard. Nice vibe all round.
Awesome pub. Friendly staff. Great banter
Fantastic pizza, really good choice of ales and such a friendly landlady. Highly recommend
Still a great place to have a pint of real ale. I ve been in here 4 times recently. I came here with my wife today, for a pizza, they were superb. I hope this place becomes classy and thrives. By a mile the best pub in the town.
Super Dog Friendly, with the most beautiful food. Very welcoming and great choice of alcohol. Thanks for the best atmosphere with great advice on walks
Very nice little pub. We did a stopover after a long walk up the malvern hills. At the time they were only doing the pizzas, and this were absolutely delicious. I had the chicken BBQ and my husband the full monty. We always struggle to eat a 12 each, but they were so nice, we didnt even leave any crust. Its abit hidden from the main street, but location is good. I would definitely recommend
Had a lovely pizza here and the staff was very friendly and chatty - worth a visit.
Just had a pint of bitter and moved on no probs
Lovely atmosphere beer is good
Great place that pours a perfect pint. Warm friendly and welcoming. Make sure you try the Stone baked pizzas, outstanding!
Great pub. Landlady and staff very welcoming and friendly. Lovely beer gardens. Great place to socialize especially if you are a single woman like myself. Feels comfortable and relaxed. Will definitely make this my local.
Owner Kylie and her staff are very friendly. Great quiet outdoor space next to the main road and strong choice of beers. Highly recommended!
Nice friendly pub, great pizza, great drinks. Landlady is very friendly
Still great beer after 40 yrs
Great proper pub, fantastic pizzas and pint! Tucked away in the side street, well worth the find and the friendliest of landladys. Dont share a pizza, definitely order your own!
Incredible little pub set back off the high st with an amazing secluded setting, cold beers and tasty pizzas. Kylie was attentive and really happy to chat and give advice on the local area. We will be back, many thanks
What a gem of a pub nestled in Malvern town...lovely atmosphere and the Landlady Kylie and her staff were so friendly and helpful... truly remarkable.
Such a lovely pub with the most amazingly welcoming hosts. Go.
Popped into this pub after 3 hours at the Craft & Flea Fayre at the Three Counties Showground, for a refreshing drink & maybe a bite to eat. Discovered current publican had only been running it for 8 weeks after previous occupants had run it down, so shes got her work cut out. So far shes doing really well, very friendly, beer well kept & a good price. Limited food menu but pizzas where excellent. Was getting busier as we left. Were back in Malvern on 24th July and well definitely be going there again.
Friendly staff, good seating area, and delicious pizza!
A gem of a pub! The landlady was incredible at making you feel welcome and at home. So friendly, caring and had top notch beers and wines!
Really nice atmosphere
Great venue and very accommodating staff. Happy to help and doggos welcome
Recently changed hands, but would reallly recommend, friendly staff, only selling pizzas at moment but they are great pizzas. Dog friendly and good beer.
Under new ownership and really friendly and welcoming. Dog friendly and a rarity in Malvern for doing food on days, and at times, that most other pubs and restaurants dont. Just doing pizzas at the moment while they get established (veggie, vegan and GF options). Highly recommended.
Lovely welcome. Smashing patio area. Good food and beer.
Excellent bar staff, great atmosphere and fantastic pizzas. Well worth a visit or two
A great little pub. Very friendly and great service. Dog friendly. Good range of beers.
Clean and very nice
Cool place for drink, dogs friendly.
Gem of a find. Definitely worth a visit. Tucked away in the beautiful malvern hills. Selling fresh artisan pizzas and oh wow. Will be returning here when in the area again.
Great service from the new landlady, who was very helpful in finding us somewhere to eat. She even loaned us a pack of cards while we waited for our reservation time at the other restaurant. Such a shame they are not running food apart from pizza and pasta, as we felt that it would have been a great place to eat!
Great hot pizza with cold Thatchers Haze. Great place for a cool down on after a walk on the Malvern hills. Landlady a great laugh
Very friendly helpful staff. Great pizzas and drinks.
Afternoon drink after a walk in Malvern Hills. Seems a locals pub only had the one drink and left.
Nice local pub with good band playing last night
Friendly host. Casual and relaxed atmosphere with genuinely good pizza.
Lovely people, great pizza. The perfect place for a post / pre walk stop.
Decent pub, fairly quiet. For food they were only serving pizza and anti-pasta on the night I visited. However the pizza was pretty damn tasty and there is little I can crituque! Would recommend!
We had a traditional fish & chips for lunch. With one being gluten free which was absolutely fantastic. Great service and very friendly, will definitely be going again soon!
Brilliant the best veggie pizza ever. Staff busy as hell but worth the wait. Thankyou what a delight
Highly recommended fab Sunday roast great staff customer service, fun charming just great!!! We ll be back!!!
Recently refurbished had a great Sunday lunch and was dog friendly! Love the simple menu and staff were efficient and helpful!
Under new ownership, Fantastic little pub with big ideas and a friendly buzzing vibe Pizza was amazing, Great selection of beers gins and whiskeys Live music is being introduced into a great setting .exactly what Malvern has been crying out for been there once, now I m a regular
Awesome atmosphere and pizza
Popped in for a quick drink after waking in tte beautiful Malvern Hills up the road. We only wanted a light snack so asked for the veggie burger to share between two- the service was delightful and then we were pleasantly surprised when the chef bought out our shared meal already divided on two plates (so no fighting over the delicious triple cooked chips!). Everything about our visit was lovely we ll be back next time we visit . Thank you
Dog friendly and fab food. Really welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommended if you have a dog and you re in Malvern.
Enjoyed a wonderful meal here today with my hubby and son. We had chicken and leek pie, butternut squash and falafel burger, classic beef burger all beautifully made and delicious - as our empty plates confirmed. All the staff were lovely and friendly and were very kind to our elderly dog too feeding her little doggie treats. We will be back!
Friendly fast service and great beer!
Lovely old pub, nice selection of real ale and wine by the glass. Staff very welcoming and friendly
Brilliant and live music in the afternoon
Well the Red Lion was a real find for us. Cheap paid parking close by with plenty of space at 1.30pm on a Saturday. Outside seating available. What was a very good start was every member of staff said hello as we walked in. Good selection of reasonably priced drinks. Food was excellent, one of the best burger and chips Ive had in a while although the extra toppings were a little expensive. Good reports of the pizza and fish and chips. All non greasy, fresh, mostly prepared on site it would seem, cooked to perfection, hot and all served together. Both the manager and chef came to check on the food as we ate. Well done.
Decent beer, supped while listening to an excellent live duo.
Its a few years since I visited the the Red Lion in Malvern.Change of ownership demanded a visit and not disappointed in the drinks supplied. The beers were superb and my wife really liked her gin and tonic. Will return soon to taste the food , and the beer.
Great music venue now
Beautiful little pub with a brilliantly friendly landlady! Were ever so welcoming to our children, which is a rarity, and serves the best pizzas! Highly recommend and will definitely be back. Thank you for such a warm welcome
Meal OK but waited ages
Brilliant service. Accommodated our group of 16. We arrived early cold and wet, they welcomed us with open arms gave section of pub for us. Food was amazing, once we all had our meals which were all perfect, hot and well presented they brought extra veg gravy out and gave the children extra Yorkshires. Pizza had to be pre ordered however kids wanted an extra one at the end as they were so lovely and again the staff and chef accommodated this with no problems. Good quality food for price, highly recommend.
A very warm welcome and matching awesome service at this lovely place. Food was served super quickly. Hot and fresh. We had burger and fish & chips. Both were good. Some nice cask ales. Quite due to time of day and season but looks to be a lovely place with plenty of live music advertised. Good cask ales served well.
Fantastic pub! Awesome helpful staff, character and delicious food....pizzas are amazing, as is Sarah!
Very friendly, especially to the dogs! Great Sunday Lunch.
Brilliant, food absolutely lovely
Excellent little pub right in the centre of Malvern. Its a little tucked away so its a bit of a local secret hideaway. The staff are brilliant and there was free pizza for everyone when we visited their own mic evening. A lovely cosy place and very much worth a visit, highly recommended!
Nice pub, tucked away but worth seeking out
Great landlady great beer great atmosphere live music great
Selection of cask ales was good in this quirky pub. Lovely fresh made pizza. Well worth the uphill walk
Great tasting food.
Best pub in the world
Small beer garden but lovely service, limited range of beers and ciders at moment. Still doing Thai take away.
Takeaway from Thai Connection - scrumptious. Service by Red Lion staff - friendly and welcoming
Loved the food. Recommend the duck spring rolls and green curry. Nice out door seating area.
Lucky find in our first night in Malvern, delicious Thai food, recommend tempura prawns and green curry, friendly helpful staff
Very nice pub and lovely Thai food.
Tucked away, nice terrace for a quick pint while exploring Malvern.
Absolutely fantastic. Friendly staff and the food was excellent. Will be going back for definite.
Lovely beer and service by the robbo brothers
Great local bar with great staff!
Lovely Thai food and excellent, friendly service at this tucked away gem. Recommended.
Really nice quaint pub on a steep part of Happy Valley (but not the steepest) Great atmosphere while watching the England finals. Alcohol is at a great value plus next door is a Thai Restaurant which is served in this pub. The Thai is quality Ill write a separate review for that.
Brilliant Thai food. Great staff and dog friendly.
I cant speak highly enough of the Red Lion pub in Malvern. I have been going here for many years and have always had excellent authentic Thai food, and all the staff are so friendly and helpful. Its a good idea to book as it gets very busy. The takeaways are also excellent but try to make your order early because again they are generally busy . They have an English menu but I havent tried it . Nice outdoor seating and food is also served out doors. The quaint little Thai restaurant itself has not been open because of the pandemic but when it is it is a truly magical experience. No actual parking but there is the council car park at the bottom of the hill, and then a short few seconds walk to the pub.
Lovely setting and food,
They always seem to be playing prog... that is not a criticism. Great food, no complaints.
Excellent food AND Boon Doggle
Pleasantly surprised, havent been in for about 30 years, great staff and a very excellent pint!
Havent been to this pub in Malvern since I was in my 20s, and I am ever so old now! Had a great pint of beer, staff friendly. Recommend it.
First time eating at the Red Lion. Such a busy little pub and all staff were so polite, helpful and very calm under pressure. The food was delicious and fresh. Good size portions too. We will definitely be back next year when we visit The Malverns again. Also big thanks to the bar man who gave me some chocolate too Many thanks Rachel and Scott
Tiny back street pub with attached Thai restaurant. Beer and food both good
Lovely place, friendly staff and beautiful food. Not badly priced either
Best food Ive tasted in a long time. Absolutely Divine. Brilliant service
Good food in a pleasant environment. Very generous portions.
We actually ate in the Thai restaurant next door and not in the pub. Food was great. Loved it. A pub next to a restaurant like this must be good too.
The menu and decoration are a bit trendy, so those looking for a traditional bar meal will probably be disappointed. But the taste is really good, the grilled steak of the burger tastes super good.
Heard very good things about this place so thought we would check it out, atmosphere was lovely, staff super friendly, drink selection brilliant, offer draughts, bottles and cocktails (something for everyone). On to the food....I selected the gammon which came with chips, onion rings, peas and either pineapple or egg. My partner chose the big Ol cheese burger with chips and onion rings. The food was so fresh and you could tell it was made with love. I would highly recommend this place for food and even just for drinks, loved every second here, plus very good value for money, will definitely be returning.
Empty apart from us two,it was only 5 pm though. Apparently the Thai restaurant attached is very popular, and has great reviews, the European menu didnt have the beef which we wanted so we didnt eat here. I tried several ales but nothing tasted outstanding. It seems worth another visit though, I hope it was an off night.
Amazing place lovely staff and amazing food would definitely be going back again thank u for an amazing evening
Characterful pub with real ales, and quant outside seating area. Attached Thai restaurant has excellent cuisine at completely reasonable cost. First class.
Pretty decent food - Thai fusion and British - inside a pub attached to a Thai restaurant, are you following me?! Good beer and very well priced...
Nice food friendly staff
Great food relatively reasonably priced
Real ale with pub grub or Thai food. You decide. Great for a meal.
Good service, lovely Thai food
Great service. After I drank half the beer, they realized I had the past of the empty tank. So they gave me a new one. The first one was indeed not tasting good, although it was the first time I had that one. So I could not know the difference. The new one tasted much better.
Decent Thai food. Ive been back a couple of times since the first time and havnt been disappointed. Good atmosphere in the pub too. Nice local vibe about the place.
Very nice. Makes you want to come again. Thai food is outstanding, Thai curry in particular. Amazing. Recommend very much
Delicious food, great service and a friendly publican
Lovely food lovely staff came for the day had a walk to the beacon saw the pub on the way down thought that looks inviting sitting outside so had a drink quince gin & tonic very nice xxx
Thai Food fantastic...
Proper! Lovely beer, attentive & friendly staff, and a Thai menu cooked by who I presume to be one of the bosses. The food was amazing! And authentic! I also watched a group of hungry travellers turn up at 5 past kitchen close time and the chef/gaffer let them sit and eat anyway. A nice touch.
Very enjoyable Thai food with well kept real ale
Good food.
Nice food!
Great atmosphere and lovely meal
Saw the great reviews on Google and also based on a personal recommendation we decided to visit The Red Lion Hotel Thai Restaurant for dinner. My partner and I ordered Tom Kha with Chicken, Duck spring rolls and 2 x Pad Thai, one with chicken and one with prawns. The Tom Kha had no texture and was very watery, no depth to the taste as you would expect. The Spring rolls tasted as if they were cooked from frozen, flavourless. The most disappointing dishes were the Pad Thai which hadnt been cooked with the meat or prawns, they came out steaming and too hot to eat and tasted identical, both bland and colourless. There was no taste of tamarind in there and it seemed they were cooked from the same batch but just added chicken and prawns. Thai food is one of our favourite cuisines and weve eaten in many Thai restaurants all over the UK and across Thailand including street cafes so were well accustomed to authentic Thai cuisine. We shared our feedback with the serving staff and the owner came over and said But I am Thai - just because youre Thai it doesnt make you a good cook! Her business partner who was sat behind us turned around and said have you seen our reviews? We simply wanted to share our feedback but it was received negatively. So much so, as we left the Restaurant a few minutes later, the serving staff member was telling his drunk friends who were having drinks outside what had happened. These friends then started shouting Ive never had any complaints about the food before, this is the best Thai I have ever had. This really disappointed us, our feedback was shared to customers who werent even eating Thai food and showed a lack of respect and professionalism. We are visiting Malvern for the weekend from London and were really enjoying our stay in this quaint township. This has left a bad taste in our mouths (pardon the pun). Last night we ate at The Everest Eatery which was a completely different experience with friendly and respectful staff, authentic and freshly cooked food. We unfortunately wont be returning to The Red Lion Thai again.
Thanks for the great food and lovely time.. Excellent Pad Thai.
The food is delicious! The pub is nice, clean and spacious so feels very covid safe. The service was really friendly.
Had a great night food was delicious
