51 Church St, Malvern WR14 2AA, United Kingdom
Neighbourhood grill restaurant showcasing farm to fork produce from the Madresfield Estate. Slow reared, grass fed beef, pork and lamb will lead the menu alongside other local fresh produce from sustainable farms
Excellent food and amazing prompt service as well.Steak was amazing - our waitress also Explained the difference between a fondant potato and a potato gratin, niche stuff! This place know what they’re doing. Couldn’t recommend this restaurant more, done up beautifully and is a wonderful evening out in Malvern. Thank you.
Small and perfectly formed. On entering there was a great buzz that gave impression everyone was enjoying themselves. The food was excellent, our steaks were probably best we've had 👌 Nikki our waitress was professional, attentive and efficient. Highly recommended
We have had two meals here very recently. Both times we were blown away. The food is absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. The first time we had lamb shank, the second was cottage pie. The depth of flavour and tenderness of the meat was on a whole new level, and the chefs had put a lot of effort into the careful cooking and flavouring (being careful to let the meat shine centre stage) .... the veg were also full of flavour and cooked to perfection, too. Nicki, the manager, was proud to explain the ethos of the owners and how carefully the animals (and veg) are produced on their own farm in Madresfield. She was so obviously enthusiastic and proud to be providing customers with the best food and dining experience. Nicki and all the staff gave us exceptional service and are a credit to the company. Very highly recommended indeed. We will be back!
Great restaurant. The service from start to finish was excellent. We met the chef, who came out of the kitchen to explain how he’d cooked one of the dishes after I asked about the herbs. The wine list was good. I had the vino vherdi. Reasonably priced and nice and cold. We started with the delicious focaccia, made by the chef. Then we had the beef koftas which were juicy and the pork croquettes which were delicious. For main I had the steak and courgettes with feta and fennel seeds but the star was the cod (perfectly cooked) and mussels on haricot beans with a creamy, herby sauce (the description doesn’t do it justice, the flavour was amazing). My husband had banana (amazing) ice cream to finish, but I was stuffed. Will definitely go again.
Eating at peak time on a Saturday evening the restaurant was full but service was impeccable: charming, friendly, efficient, informative and patient. Drinks were excellent - my Sloe Negroni was perfect and good value too. All the food looked and tasted delicious. My burger was great quality and very reasonably priced. Portion sizes were just right and the vegetable side dishes we shared were particularly good, especially the cabbage. For such all round quality I thought that everything was good value. In summary, a perfect meal!
Fantastic first visit to the new place in town! Food was amazing, service was fantastic and the interiors made it feel like a really luxurious visit. Would highly recommend and will be returning to try the other options on the menu! Went to lunch on a Saturday, requires booking as the restaurant was full! Menu was a great choice of local food and prices were very reasonable for the quality of the food. We had 2 courses each, wine, cocktails and was about £50 each.
Booked in for a 1:15 table for 4 as a pre-mother’s day Mother’s Day (as it was fully booked for actual Mother’s Day)! The service was impeccable, friendly and attentive, and the food was fantastic despite being a chef down in the kitchen. Without doubt one of the best roast beef dinners I’ve had in a restaurant (the kale was a particular highlight). Desert was equally lovely with a really delicious deconstructed tiramisu and a creamy sticky toffee pudding. The music played was ideal (love a bit of Al Green, Otis Redding et al) and the acoustics were spot on (didn’t feel noisy despite being busy). Thank you for making it such a memorable Sunday lunch!
Beef / pork Sunday lunch for four was fantastic. Meat, veg, Yorkshire pudding and gravy all excellent and portion sizes just right. All our desserts were great too. Service, venue and atmosphere spot on.
We had an early family Christmas celebration. Made to feel welcome from the moment we walked through the door. We ate early so all picked from the pre-theatre menu which had a great selection and was good value. The food was delicious. Thank you.
A lovely cosy space with lovely design
Great food! Good service. The only slight downside was our table was a bit too close to the front door, so we got a bit of a chilly draught every time the door opened. Food
It all exceeded our expectations. Amazing food . Superb service from friendly well informed staff.
Lovely atmosphere. Food was first-class, delicious pork, steak, white chocolate pudding. Service was efficient, warm and friendly. A wonderful and high class dining experience. Thank you
Great food, especially if you like meat, as the name suggests. Friendly and knowledgeable service.
Small but wonderful menu full of locally sourced and well cooked food.
I dont really want to leave a review because this place will get too popular and I wont be able to get a table!! Great staff, great atmosphere and great food - what more can I say. The best in Malvern by some margin.
Good enough that Ive eaten here for the last 2 nights and booked again for the next time Im in Malvern. Great service of really good food, highly recommended.
Beautiful restaurant and incredible food! Staff were so friendly and helpful - it s what Malverns been missing!
Just had lunch here, absolutely fabulous!! The service and food from Kate, Ed and Chef Rory was great. We ll definitely be back soon!!
Very attentive, our order was taken professionally. We had various dietary needs and alcohol-free options, which were discussed but only had Heineken. We were served at the table, adding more drinks. The chef added vegetables when we asked for extras. Was a little drafty as the door was open, we asked for it to be closed. The manager said no but the heating was turned up. Thank you to Meghan you were fabulous waiting on all our needs. The steaks and veggie burger were fab thank you, chef .
Had THE most fantastic lunch. Fabulous steak and chips and delightful service. We will definitely go again.
Seduced by the restaurant frontage and interior and the service and food didn t let us down. Delicious steaks and superb and very reasonable wine list. It felt like walking into a stunning Mayfair club and one of the highlights was (amazingly) a trip to the loos which give an impression of visiting the grand stately pile that is Madresfield Court. Hugely recommend a visit!
What a delightful restaurant, just what Malvern needs. Service was impeccable, charming, friendly, efficient, informative and patient. I had the cod, (perfectly cooked) in a delicious creamy herby sauce. My husband had the Top cut steak. Which he says was melt in the mouth lush. They definitely need to bottle & sell the black garlic ketchup, wed have left with several bottles. We will definitely become regulars
Absolutely fantastic. Amazing food, outstanding service and cozy atmosphere! Food : 5/5
Great staff, great food, lovely inside, so what Malvern needed and I m very happy to see them so busy. I d love a couple more cocktail Options to tempt me in for just drinks/nibbles but what a fab place.
Wouldnt give this 1 star but its the lowest they will allow... Went there this evening and ordered the Rump steak off the specials. have to say its one the worse steaks Ive ever had unfortunately... the waiter recommended medium rare which I normally have anyway. It came out burned on the outside the inside was still pink but Only thing we could taste was burned char. I know a good steak and brsides the burned outside it was a little chewy. i eat out on a weekly basis. Went to McDonalds when we left the restaurant
We ve just come back after an amazing meal at the Madresfield Grill! The food was FANTASTIC (far better than anywhere else in the Malvern area) and the service and atmosphere were perfect. I d seriously recommend it to anyone and will definitely be going back soon myself!
Had a really lovely evening at this restaurant in Malvern. The service and atmosphere were warm, welcoming and unpretentious. For a vegetarian the idea of a menu so focused on meat made me a little nervous however the roasted celeriac dish demonstrated a high level of cookery skills and was a plate of delicious tastes and textures. The other meat eating members were equally thrilled with their dishes. Definitely would return.
Dinner for four Not only the best in Malvern Would say best this side of the country Fabulous quality produce Staff are ever so nice Wonderful dining experience Other restaurants take note ! 10/10 - many thanks
Yummy food. Quick service. Knowledgeable staff. Highly recommend
We had sirloin steak which was completely delicious and tender and juicy perfect burgers. Crisp parmesan and truffle fries were well seasoned and yummy smoked mash with crispy onions and a nice green salad with maybe a little too much dressing. Amazing sour dough and yeast butter and delicious rose and shiraz by the glass. The service was super friendly and attentive. We cannot recommend highly enough.
Had a really special family supper here. Warm welcome and a top-notch culinary experience! Lovely ambience and beautiful fresh decor reflecting the natural life of the estate. ( The meat platter was truly excellent and the lime & coconut ice to die for! )
Great quality food and wine, superb service. Thank you Nicky and Ed. We ll be back Dietary restrictions: Adjusted menu to suit cream intolerance with no fuss. Thank you, much appreciated
Amazing restaurant with excellent food, service and atmosphere, will be back
From the name, it is clear this is a meat feast restaurant, as long as you are happy with that you wont be disappointed (there was a veggie option which did sound good and i would choose if i were anywhere else). Nice small menu means what they do; they do really well; if you want a big choice there is a wetherspoons round the corner (which is not a recommendation). The detail on food is excellent, although meat centred you wont get simple steak and chips, you will get interesting flavour notes from unexpected ingredients; the braised cabbage is unexpected highlight in a butchery and grill. A few niggles; service did feel rushed, if I go again I will set a deliberately slower pace, and I felt the standard bistro French fries were out of place (the rest of the food deserved thrice cooked chips). The toilets are another unexpected highlight (if that seems weird, it isnt meant to). There is a lot right here; especially the food, and although not cheap, it isnt overpriced for what you get.
The burger is amazing.
we had a lovely time in this new restaurant in malvern. It was our 2nd visit and the food was just as delicious as the first time we went. Yes its expensive, but we were celebrating our wedding anniversary, so to go to a special venue and have an excellent meal was worth every penny, and to have the owner John also there in the evening helping out with a variety of things and making sure it was running smoothly was a privilege especially as the restaurant was full to capacity, making the atmosphere warm and welcoming. I must admit also, the toilets are the poshest Ive ever seen Ha Ha but all in all a superb evening with very friendly and attentive staff and very knowledgeable about the menu too, we will definitely be back for special occasions and a big compliment to the chef good luck to you all .
A little expensive for a Sunday roast lunch, but very, very good, so still 5*. Starters were brilliant too.
Delicious food from the cattle reared on the Madresfield Estate. All done in a natural and sustainable environment. A pleasure to see in these times and reflected in the taste of the food we ate. The menu caters for all tastes. The fish was delicious and the option to choose a veggie meal was also on the menu. All staff were so welcoming and accommodating and went out of their way to give us a great relaxed evening. The white wine from three Venetian grapes was delicious. I loved the decor, with pictures of the cattle from the estate and the pressed flowers showing the variety of diet the cattle eat. Thank you all so very much for such a memorable evening. We plan to be back another day.
A group of us have been trying to get a table here since Madresfield Kitchen opened and finally last night we managed to get in unfortunately I think itll be my last visit after basically feeling robbed. I have no complaints about the service or the quality of the food and the restaurant is very nice but what you get for your money is a different matter, I understand its supposed to be a nice experience and the meat is from their own farms but expecting 2 people to share a pork chop a sausage and a small piece of pork loin for £50 with a few token croquets to fill up space on the board is a bit of a joke then to top it off sides which literally cost pence are charged extra. I had high hopes for this place and I dont mind paying for nice food but at least make it value for money.
Just had one of the absolute best meals of my life. My partner and I were so happy, beaming from ear to ear throughout our whole time here. The staff were so lovely, the food so incredibly tasty and the head chef clearly so passionate and knowledgeable. Worth every penny. What an absolute gem of a restaurant. Very much looking forward to more visits here in the future.
I dont know where to begin! Considering that the restaurant is only 5-6 weeks old, the service was absolutely flawless, the wait staff were excellent, providing flawless descriptions of the food and advising us on various aspects of the menu and the timings between ordering and service was excellent even on a busy Friday night! We decided against the sharer board..this time ..because we wanted to try more of the menu. We had some beautiful fresh bread from a local bakery as a taster, followed by salmon and beef tartar for starters, steak and lamb for mains, chocolate tart and pana cotta for deserts. I love that the menu is small, I feel that it allows the chef to really concentrate on producing top quality product every time, I strongly disagree with other comments critical of the menu, I prefer to have less choice of high quality than more choice of lesser quality. The chef approached us and gave us a brief explanation of the food that wed ordered, I really appreciated the explanation of their ethos, and I love that they utilise local produce in all aspects of their food. I have seen other comments critical of the pricing of the restaurant, all I can say is, there are menus online and outside the restaurant, if you consider it to be too expensive, maybe another restaurant should be chosen. I believe that the pricing is higher than other restaurants in the locality, however, supporting local farmers, bakers etc comes with a price, and I for one am more then happy to line the pockets of locals instead of large companies that dont care. All in all, I absolutely loved this restaurant, easily the best food and service Ive had in Malvern, no question. We were so excited to try it and Im so glad we did, we will be returning! To the restaurant: Your staff are excellent, your chef is incredible and your ethos is flawless, DONT CHANGE A THING. We cant wait to visit again!
You can definitely taste the difference in meat that has been properly farmed like this. The very local vegetables and ales were noticeably more full of flavour than is often so disappointing elsewhere, when restaurants resort to using more ordinary produce. Everything that we ate, and enjoyed, was cooked and presented in a clever and interesting way, without being over the top or pretentious. It would have been well worth going for the cocktails alone! The atmosphere was magnificent and just the right blend of being smart but informal, without any hint of ghastly West End chichiness. The bill was refreshingly reasonable too! Needless to say, the restaurant was full and deservedly so. We were looked after by what was clearly a well managed team, both front and back of house. Their upbeat energy and enthusiasm properly rounded off an excellent evening. There is so much to do and see nearby that we will definitely be returning - next time for a good family day out and Sunday lunch. If you are anywhere nearby, this gem is an essential destination.
Lovely first experience. Nice atmosphere and design. Staff professional and friendly especially the young man behind the bar. Expensive, but the food is local, and beautifully cooked and served.
Lovely meal ,steak, lamb and burgers, atmosphere and service was as good.yes it is expensive but you get what you pay for, The waitress listened to my feedback regarding the streaky bacon on the burgers, which would of been better served crispy, our mistake we should of requested but didnt think to, my only gripe is additional 10% service charge, this can really bump your bill up, where ever I go I always ask for this to be removed no matter how good the service is, Tips ,service charge should be your discretion and based on the service not as a percentage.
Malvern has been screaming out for a place like this. The food is divine. Setting is second to none with a view over the Abbey. We will be back!
First rate lunch here - good atmosphere, comfortable surroundings, well chosen menu with first rate produce and varied selection of drinks. Cooking and presentation excellent, staff helpful and professional. Great value.
Ive rated this as 3* although the service was excellent. First issue: Single ply, small cheap napkins. The paper towels in the toilets were much higher quality and the tables were cheap laminate items. The main issue however, is that the food is really overpriced. In particular £60 for the butchers board. The meat was not of the highest quality and was just a presented mixed grill that one would expect to pay no more than £30 for. Its a shame as goodness knows Malvern needs more good restaurants. We wont be returning.
We dined at a busy time on a Friday evening, but from the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was wonderful and the service could not be faulted. All staff were incredibly professional and knowledgeable about the food and wine. A particular thank you to Ed for serving us. It was a lovely surprise to have complimentary sourdough to start. Each course was beautifully presented and tasted exquisite and a real celebration of local produce. The pork and salmon starters were particularly good and perfect portion sizes. The burger and rump cut of the day were cooked to perfection. Everything was seasoned well and full of flavour. The sides of fries were also a highlight! Overall, a great value Friday evening meal. This restaurant is a wonderful new addition to Great Malvern, and a new favourite that I ll be returning to. I will definitely be recommending you to friends and family!
Four of us ate early on a Saturday evening. The staff were great, service and atmosphere was excellent. The food was perfect in every way. We chose between us the local asparagus and salmon both were cooked to perfection. The four of us chose the meat board which was four cuts of beef. Also cooked to perfection. Overall a great addition to Malvern and we highly recommend.
Good quality ingredients/ excellent staff but more imaginative menu needed to warrant a return .
Came to this place with my wife recently. Food was good overall, but very pricey for the portions. The atmosphere was uncomfortable: the chefs seemed aggressive around other staff and they seemed to look uncomfortable from where I was seated. (Kitchen is in Restaurant). General manager didnt seem to have a clue what she was doing seemed very stressy. Was my first visit, hopefully will be managed better next time. Overall I would come again service was great from the lady who served us. But that was about it.
Wonderful experience! Fabulous ethos, quality produce and such lovely staff.
I came here for the opening lunch service. As someone who is trying to eat sustainably, its great knowing exactly where the meat is from! I had a delicious streak that was cooked to perfection as was the mackerel. I really recommend this place to someone who wants to eat high quality meat as a special treat. The coffee butter cocktail had a really original kick. The service was warm and friendly - great for a special occasion or a treat as it meets the balance of fancy but with none of the stuffy pomp.
Had lunch on Saturday with my sister and our partners. 3 of us had steak of the day (7oz rump) and 1 had the burger all followed by sticky toffee puddings. The steak was lovely - very tender and feedback all round was excellent. Will definitely be eating there again. All the food incl side dishes and puds were generous. Worth every penny.
6 of us went and tried the restaurant last night and left pretty disappointed. Far too expensive for what you get, especially when you are paying extra for every side. The service was professional, but thats not surprising when there are so many wait staff struggling to look busy. The menu is far too limited, and as a restaurant, I struggle to see how it will survive when, at best, it will be a special occasion destination for most people without the substance. The interior has been painstakingly done, and it is nice to see something different in Malvern, but it will be a while before I return.
Couldn t fault the dishes, really enjoyed every single one we tried. The sloe negroni is unreal!
Great asset to Great Malvern. Lunch was delicious today, especially the fish dish. Very friendly staff including the chef. Food : 5/5
Had a great lunch here today. The service was brilliant, very nice ambiance and the food was outstanding. I had the pork and my wife had the fish of the day, both were delicious and perfectly presented. Will definitely be returning.
This place is a very welcome new addition to the eateries of Malvern. No doubt about it, the range and particularly the quality of restaurants in a provincial town can help put it on the map and add to its desirability. Look how Michelin restaurants helped Ludlow. Malvern has so much going for it and this is a step in the right direction. Weve been twice. Once in a party of 5 on a Saturday lunchtime, and now for a Sunday lunch for two. Very good on both occasions. A limited choice of excellent dishes, very good service and a smart but not over stuffy ambience. Its not cheap but neither is it absurdly expensive. Great food at a fair price. We will be back.
Just dined here with my wife. Atmosphere fantastic, staff welcoming and attentive.. and food was fabulous. We had nibbles followed by the butchers block - a lovely variety of beef flavours. All washed down with a bottle of red. Highly recommend. We will be back!
New to Malvern. Lovely food, helpful friendly staff. Will definitely return.
Had a meal with friends here on the opening weekend. Both the quality of food and the service were excellent. We also had a delicious bottle of red wine. Photo attached. I didnt photograph my food but it looked as good as it tasted! We look forward to returning.
Unbelievable meal here last night, what a way to celebrate our engagement. Food was amazing, service impeccable, great conversation with the bar staff and Head Chef Harvey Perttola took the time to chat with us about the food and ambition of the restaurant. Top class addition to the Malvern food scene.
Fabulous. Delicious food, great ambience and excellent attentive service. A great addition to Malvern restaurant scene and already a local treasure.
Outstanding in every way! We ve just been to the opening Sunday at Madresfield Butchers and Grill on Church Street Great Malvern. From the moment you enter to the time you leave, you receive outstanding customer service. When we saw Nicky, we knew the service would be excellent, but when we went on to meet the ever attentive Ziggy, the Manager, the incredible Chef and the excellent Bar Manager, who made the best Negroni ever twice we realised the whole team offer this same level of outstanding service. The food is delicious, perfectly portioned and served with great attention to detail. Nothing is too much trouble! Gary commented as we walked home that he felt his tummy had just had a warm hug! With a cosy ambience, the opportunity to sit at the bar for a drink as well as eat at a variety of sized tables, there s something for everyone, even a vegetarian like me! We highly recommend you visit before the rush to book leaves you waiting weeks to get in! We will be back next Sunday Congratulations to all involved today and in the background. Another welcome addition to the increasingly attractive range of eateries in Great Malvern Jane and Gary Vegetarian options: Fish x1 and 1 x veggie option
