Seasonal ingredients and theatrical inspiration meet in the eclectic atmosphere of The Fern & Fable, located just steps away from People’s Light, one of the largest professional theatres in Pennsylvania. The Fern & Fable offers a selection of flavorful and creative dishes made with ingredients sourced from local farms and vendors.
We have no village so date nights are very few and far between. My husband planned a surprise outing over a month ago that involved a People's Light performance for a Saturday. At 2pm on the Thursday before Fern & Fable cancelled our reservation due to a private event. This short notice is unacceptable, especially for a restaurant that STRONGLY encourages reservations. I will never give this restaurant another dime of our money.
Wow, what an experience. From the minute we walked in the door we felt like family. The ambiance, food and drinks were incredible. The manager, Richard, went out of his way to check on us to make sure everything was right. If you are reading this Richard, there is no need because the service was awesome!
We went to The Fern & Fable restaurant a few weeks before the show “A Christmas Carol”. Haven't been there in years. Or I guess we haven’t been to whatever restaurant was in the same location. The Fern & Fable was terrific. Service was very good and the menu seems to have been uplifted from previous iterations. The rabbit pot pie and the deconstructed s'mores for dessert were both fantastic!
We felt so lucky to have chosen Fern and Fable for dinner on the last night of my son’s stay here. The decor was cozy and artful. Unlike so many restaurants, the space was quiet, allowing us to enjoy an intimate meal. Then there was the food! I selected the rabbit pot pie, a specialty of the house. What a delight! Inside the rustic crust, the filling was delicately seasoned to complete the shedded rabbit and chunky root vegetables with just enough gravy to be moist. My son had the delicious and tender elk plate and my husband enjoyed the paparadle pasta with chicken meatballs- the perfect comfort food. The dishes were prepared quite quickly. Yet the server encouraged us to take our time to enjoy the experience. We had to try the apple cider beignets. They did not disappoint. We will certainly be back!
Invited family and friends prior to a show to join me. The food and service are amazing. The best cheese curds on the planet. Creative and artistically local resourced menu. The flavors are amazing. The Rabbit pot pie and Elk are amazing. The desserts and especially the limoncello mousse was amazing. Craft cocktails and great wines. The only problem my guests mentioned was that with so many delicious choices, they will be back often.
This amazing farm to table restaurant was the perfect night out. Hospitable and blessed with a talented chef who creates delicious dishes, beautiful presentation, wonderful dessert and a cocktail menu that compliments it all. We will recommend it to everyone and plan to be there next week. Enjoy.
Absolutely amazing first experience at Fern & Fable. The grounds and restaurant is stunning. The artwork is beautiful and the restaurant itself provides such a cozy and inviting atmosphere. The food was exceptional. We got 2 appetizers, entree and dessert. Everything came out quickly, and was so delicious. The food was rich without being overpowering. Waitstaff was kind and the perfect combination of helpful but not hovering. The owner Richard gave us a tour of the entire place after our meal and couldn’t have been nicer. We’ll definitely be returning!
Our server was top-notch! She was aware of our theater time and kept things moving, but we never felt rushed. The food was so skillfully prepared and presented beautifully. A truly memorable dinner. And the blood orange martini was exquisite

Don t expect them to honor your reservations. As other reviewers have said we made a reservation several weeks out. A week prior we were called and told our reservation was cancelled due to an event they re hosting. Now a week before our night out we have a babysitter booked and the night off, but no reservation. Not enough notice to get a reservation elsewhere.
Its a great restaurant which would be worth going to just for the people. Highly recommend.
We had a magical time celebrating our anniversary! Everyone was so kind and the food was delicious!! :)
Amazing venue and service. Loved it!
Incredible.
What a beautiful restaurant. Great food and outstanding service! A true gem.
I ordered an Elk steak and they suggested to have it cooked as Medium-Rare. I accepted the chefs suggestion. It was pretty rare in the middle. I have never had such horrible food poisoning in all of my life. I spent 8 hours throwing up on and off from @11PM - 7AM the next morning. My body still isnt right 4 days later. I have never filled out a complaint but it was so bad all night I thought I was going to die. If I wasnt in generally good health this would have put me in the hospital or worse.
Just a wonderful experience - incredibly friendly staff, cozy dining room that still allowed a good space between tables, excellent prices for the quality, especially the house wines. I live 45 minutes away (came here for their associated local theater) and will definitely be back.
Purchase tickets for a show schedule for Dec 9, 2023 and made dinner reservations here at the same time (about 5 weeks ago), yesterday (5 days before our reservation) we get a voice mail from the restaurant telling us they will be closed for a private party...no apology. How rude and disappointing.
Dined after a matinee. Had no preconceived notions. Truly an exceptional experience. Every dish was delicious. We particularly enjoyed the depth of flavor. Service was attentive and friendly. Parking: Ample
