It used to be the best! Awesome! But it s really gone downhill. My husband has ALWAYS, without fail had the roast lamb and it used to be perfect. And he always got a large piece. Now the lamb is tiny and there s zero fat on it (my husband loves the fat) and it s not spiced very nicely anymore. I ve always ordered either spanakopita or dolmades. The dolmades now taste like dog food and the spanakopita is half raw. I don t know why the food would be so sub par now. It was great for years. Quite disappointing now. Sad.

We get take-out regularly and its always consistently good. The chicken souvlaki is tender, the spanokapita is good, the half potato is amazing (used to be a two halves but for a long time now it is only half but with an almost ridiculous quantity of rice ( excellent but Id prefer more potato and less rice). They substitute Greek with caesar salad and will put dressing on the side if you ask. There isnt much parmesan on it but all in all, the food is very good so I dont mention that.

The best moussaka I ve ever had, super tasty souvlaki with tender and juicy chicken, beef and prawns, delicious and unique spanakopita and all top of all that, this restaurant is locally owned and operated by the loveliest family. LOVE this restaurant

This restaurant offered a delightful atmosphere with a warm ambiance. The food was satisfying, served in generous portions. Our server was generally friendly, although their sense of humor lacked tact when they jokingly referred to my dad as a baby , needy and mommas boy simply for requesting a spoon. While it may have been intended as a playful jest, it came across as slightly inappropriate and disrespectful. Despite this minor hiccup, the overall experience was enjoyable.

The food is good and they have remodeled it very nicely and it is clean. I forgot to take pictures of food because I was busy eating, but they were all good! Food : 4/5

Very slow service

The food wasn t horrible but it s definitely just an bad attempt at real Greek cuisine Start off with the fact that the Greek salad was hardly edible due to the HUGE cuts of the tomato s and cucumbers, then is topped with some in house dressing that goes horribly with it and isn t even a attempt at Greek salad dressing which I find amusing Secondly I m not sure why they put raw onions with the calamari?? Never seen that before Additionally the lamb rice and potatoes weren t bad, potatoes reminded me of home and the lamb was well cooked and so was the rice Lastly the service was not bad but I was the only person in the whole restaurant so can t definitively say service was amazing and quite disappointed when I said happy Easter weekend to her and got a weird look and no response (Easter is tomorrow) Wouldn t recommend to someone looking for authentic Greek food

We go here regularly and are never disappointed. My husband loves the roast lamb and the portion is generous. All of the food Ive had has been quite decent. We are often greeted and served by the owner, who is always very pleasant and service is great.

We ordered through Door Dash last night. Lamb chops, beef souvlaki, both with rice, baked potato, Greek salad, extra pita and carrot cake. Everything came hot, tasty, like it just came straight from the grill at home. If this is delivery, I cant wait to dine in!

My wife n I decided to try this place out for our 17th wedding anniversary. Not your traditional blue n white Greek Restaurant on the inside but a really nice modern design interior. The food was exceptional and the service from our lovely server, Yasmine, was superb. This will definitely be our go to Greek Restaurant in the near future.

We love Greek cuisine and decided to try Socrates in Maple Ridge for the first time. I have driven by this restaurant many times and wanted to try it....what a mistake. We ordered 2 Roast Lamb dishes. When the dishes arrived the lamb was seasoned very well but is was super dry, and overcooked by a LOT and in order to swallow it you had to drink water with it. The Greek potatoes were russet potatoes with the skin on....that was a first. Absolutely no lemon flavor at all. The rice was actually cooked perfectly with just the perfect bite but way under seasoned....that is why this review gets a 1 and not a zero. Now for the Greek Salad....not sure how to even say this....has anyone ever had a Greek Salad with a cream dressing? It was a mixture between a Ranch and Caesar dressing...and absolutely ZERO Feta....WOW! One thing you would assume a Greek restaurant would get right. Now the simplest thing...no Pita was served....really? My suggestion is if you want authentic Greek food, find another place.

We visited Socrates for the first time on Easter weekend and we were so pleasantly surprised at how great and awesome the food tasted - everything from the appetizer to the main courses and dessert was just so tasty and flavourful, and the portion sizes were generous. Our server was a young lady who was wonderful :) Socrates is definitely on our list now of go-to restaurants, not just in Maple Ridge but also in the tri-city region, including Langley. We will definitely be going back for more of the delicious Greek food!

There were some small,children screeching in,the restaurant during dinner or it would have been five stars all,across. I had lasagna and it was so good and plentiful I brought half home. My husband had garlic prawn suvlakia and he loved it he doesn t eat rice so had extra salad and he loved it as well R Duyvestyn Food

Best Greek food in town!

Good food, nice ambiance, good size servings. In our group we had Platter A, BBQ roast lamb, baby back ribs, and pita bread. All was very good. There was enough left over for a full service.

I ordered the chicken parm. It was fabulous. The staff is friendly and engaging. I really enjoyed my dinner and experience. I highly recommend this place for great greek food and happy service.

Great local spot with traditional Greek fare as well as Western options. They have a very diverse dessert menu. Service was spot on, and food was hot and tasty. Definitely worth a visit!

We were there this weekend celebrating a friends birthday, there were 10 of us, the food was excellent and so was the service. We will be back. We shared the Platter A for two it was delicious.

I was exceptionally impressed with the portion sizes, as well with how pleasant and informative our waitress Talia was. I really have nothing negative to say, but I will say the bars closed on the windows were a bit out of place compared to the rest of the atmosphere. I suggest they be opened if possible during business hours. Also a little bit of background music would be a nice touch. I definitely will be back!

This restaurant has big portions compared to other Greek restaurants in the area. The Calamari Appetizer is a very generous size and only $16. Also comes with two sides of Tzatziki. Their Caesar salad is also great.

I love the decor and cleanliness of this spot but tonight the service was really slow. I had to call over the server to take my order. She was caught up taking orders on the phone. I gave up trying to have a 2nd glass of wine because no one checked on us while we ate. The owner and the wait staff are lovely, but dine ins want service. Otherwise, eating at home with our own wine is cheaper. We enjoyed our meals: spanokopita dinner, beef souvlaki and calamari starter...yum!

Been to lots of Greek Restaurant, loved the food and service was great our family of six. I especially enjoyed it as the food wasnt too salty but very tasty. Definitely be there again. Dietary restrictions: No complaints as salt was perfect to taste as senior...we have issues By the way.. enjoyed the toast lamb.

Would have given this 5 stars except for the horrible way we were treated. We were a table of 4 in a booth having a lovely quiet dinner when at 8:30 (restaurant is open till 9pm) the lights were turned off. Would have been nice if the owner/manager had kindly just asked us to leave as he wanted to close early instead of this rude way. We were super happy with the food and the waitress is great but we wont be back as this was beyond a rude and awful way to treat 2 elderly couples who were just enjoying a night out.

Not very busy, really good rack of ribs, but they do not give you napkins or finger bowl to wash or keep clean.

Had my birthday dinner here last night. The staff are so kind and accommodating. Food is always so good. I usually get Mousaka which is delicious. Had the lamb chops this time. They were cooked and seasoned perfectly and so meaty. Will definitely be back. Thanks for my birthday treats Mo. Food

Weve been doing takeout since Covid, food has been good, but over past year things have really deteriorated. Over the last 6 orders 3 times we arrive home to find part of our order missing. Its a 20 minute drive to pick up so we will call in and are told by the owner they will attach a note to our number and adjust next order. Next time we order and pick up nothing is attached to our number and were out 9f luck, this happened twice (a common practice as shown by other reviews) . Third time was the last time we ordered from them. We order for 5-6 people so checking bags before we leave is almost impossible(4 bags) , we do ask to make sure order is complete and our reassured it is. Another thing all dinners should know is that owners keep the tips if you pay by credit card or debit card. We were told this by multiple servers. They explained that the only tips they get is if you pay with cash. From that point we started to pay for our takeout on credit card but adding no tip and tipping the server in cash which once got us look from owner. No wonder theres such a turnover of servers. For the record this is also illegal in BC.

I am sorry to write this complaint , but now its the second bad meal we have had in 6 weeks at Socrates, both orders were not good. The first the chicken Fettuccine was brown in the center, as if the noodles were sitting too long without a cover. The salad had brown cucumbers , and covered with fresh parmesan ,disgusting. the order tonight was almost the same, the noodles had soaked up almost all the sauce, very dry, but that was not all, the Fettuccine had so much garlic I couldnt eat it. We also ordered two salads and got three, and also paid for three, I should say I am Italian and I cook with garlic all the time but I will never eat there again. I should also mention both times my wife ordered baked Lasagna and it was good.

Our family has been going to Socrates for over 20 years! We tried other local places but the service and food were lacking to say the least. The atmosphere at Socrates is perfect and the food is always so delicious! Lots of tasty meal choices, but do yourself a favour and never pass up the garlic prawn appy!!

They make the best Greek salad we ve ever had

Have been here a few times now. Decent food, but they raised the price of their tiny souvlaki meals to almost 30 bucks. You literally get 5 tiny pieces of meat, a tiny salad, some rice and half a potato. If you want pita bread, they charge more. You cant charge 30+ bucks for a 17 dollar meal.

Been here twice in the last couple months both times food is amazing, the fettuccini I LOVED. Souvlaki dinner was a lot of food and also yummy. Was freezing in there though, the air conditioning was on to cold brrr. Very clean a little on the dark side. Waitress was lacking not very attentive but polite and sweet. We will Go back.

I was disappointed the souvlaki meals did not come with pita bread. The chicken was a rubbery, the potato was overall soggy and disappointing, and the Greek salad had a non-authentic creamy sauce I did not love. The rice was pretty standard. We usually get our greek food from the restaurant in East Maple ridge, but tried this one as it was closer. I wouldn t recommend it.

Short: way overpriced and lackluster food. Was hoping the reviews were just harsh, and I was craving Greek so we tried takeout. Wont be back. Way overpriced for the quality and quantity. Moussaka had a dry rind around it and was salty. Usually at Greek places I find theyre priced a little higher but I get at least 2 meals out of it - not this place. If you want Greek food go elsewhere. The inside seems like a nice place to sit down and eat and the staff were kind.

We were craving saganaki on our way home from Vancouver. We weren t sure we d get there before closing time. The cook said to call when we were 5 minutes away and he d start it so it would be ready for pick up a bit after just a bit after closing. He said he d still be there cleaning and it was no trouble. Crisis averted! The portions were large and it was cooked perfectly.

My favourite Socrates Greek Taverna restaurant, the place is neat and beautiful, the most important thing is that the food is very good, especially my favourite roast lamb. Thanks to Mo you did the good job. The place and food is amazing number one for me and my family.

Dropped in for an early dinner. The host /owner Moe sat us. Moe is the kind of person you want to be served by. He s personable and funny while his years of experience make him a consummate professional. Our orders, including a couple special requests, came out quickly and were excellent. Ordered Chicken Soulvaki with large Tzatziki . The tzatziki was literally like milk. I never seen this before. My entire order was a mess. The take out paper bag was soaked. The chicken was super fatty and rice dry. *This is Not authentic Greek at all* Moe told me to get refund for the tzatziki on Uber Eats but I got a full refund for the entire order thanks to Uber Eats. I will Not be back. Food quality is very poor. And Wow Overpriced!!

I went to a function that was catered by this restaurant and the food was amazing! Best Greek food I had I a while!

We often opt for a salad out for dinner. This means a short drive to Socrates Grill. We order their deliciously fresh greek salad, one with extra onions, the lovely warm Pita with creamy tzatziki, an order of the perfectly prepared calamari, and a couple glasses of wine. We are never disappointed. The kitchen staff are quick with our order and the attentive service staff always have a smile. Sometimes we even get a chance for a chat with Moe.

The fettuccine Alfredo is the best in town

Had the roast lamb dinner, it fell off the bone. Home made tsatsiki was wonderful. Also had the spanakopita dinner, very flaky and had great spices. One of the best values for dinner in Maple Ridge, prices are reasonable and food very fresh and good quality ingredients.

I usually order the Moussaka and Calamari Dinner. Generous portions, all the sides compliments each other. Love eating their rice with their home-made tzatziki. Their greek salad is also super refreshing as well 11/10! Kid-friendliness: Restaurant has highchairs and boosters. Can also accommodate large group of parties!!

We were seated well and served quickly. We ordered three vegetarian apps. The hummus was the most bland tasting chickpea pate we have ever had. It was so watered down that we couldn t even taste chickpeas. Was there even any spices in it? The spanakopita was chewy and hardly flaky. Last the dolmates tasted like meat! Other restaurants tend to stuff these with rice, dill & parsley. However, the lemon sauce was superb!

Our son took us out for supper tonight and we had a lovely time. The waiter/owner was great fun and we really enjoyed the food. Will definitely be back. I had the Moussaka. Dont know what they put in the potatoes but they were yummy. Could have done with more egg plant but otherwise great experience.

My uncle and I dine out every Tuesday, Socrates Grill is definitely on our list. My uncle loves the lamb dishes here, and always looks forward to eating it. I usually get the calamari dinner, but Ive also had the chicken parmesan, lasagna, and garlic prawns. They are all very good.

The greatest liberty and service a restaurant can give is the time and hospitality to the guests. Many modern restaurants are either over crowded, booked, or promotionally advertized to actract guests. What draws me to Socrates is the atmosphere. The interior is great, a nice blend of neutral colours and simple and complex design choices. What further helps the atmosphere is its availability, the quiet and calmness helps to engage in meaningful conversations. The food speaks for itself when you have it. the Selection is great, ranging from greak, pastas to steaks. Everything has been so far fantastic and is obvious the quality control of food has been taken into account. The notables for me was the potato and the greek salad dressing that comes with most entrees. The potato was tender but not drowned in moisture, and the salad was not saturated with the dressing; complimented each ingredient very well. After the meal or during it you have the options for beverages and desserts. I have had so far most of the dessert menu comprising of cake, and the only request I have is to have a selection catered to fruit lovers as well. However, if you are a fan of chocolate, it is worth it to try the place as a cafe as well. Recently I have moved to maple ridge and was in distress about the choice of dining out being limited compared to coquitlam or burnaby. I am glad to have found a new greek place that is near and can call my favorite. I have already refered the place to friends and have taken my family as well, I would definetly recommend Socrates Grill.

Came to dine for my wifes birthday. We had the Spanakopita and roast lamb. Absolutely amazing food, generous portions, and the server (Im assuming the owner) was very polite and a very good host. Would recommend Socrates to anyone looking for a great Greek meal!

Pathetic communication

Delicious food! Shared the platter- it fed two with lots of leftovers! Also the lamb is yummy.

Terrible! They have small portions, really expensive and don t even include any pita bread. This is the only Greek place I have ever known that charges extra for pita bread! The tzatziki sauce is tasteless and the small piece of potato half isn t even peeled - wow ..

Somebody at this restaurant has pink hair. Did a pick up and called restaurant as soon as I saw it. Offered to bring back the meal that was untouched along with the hair. He said he would put us down for a replacement at a later date. We wanted a refund. After going back-and-forth for about two minutes he decided to hang up. So I decided to write a review on Google.

Ordered take out Mousakka. Absolutely that most disgusting take out food Ive ever ordered. The Mousakka is very obviously reheated frozen/ mass produced garbage. The rice is the equivalent to rice a roni. There is nothing Greek about any of this mess they serve. Beyond disappointing and i highly encourage people to read the reviews before considering this restaurant .

Bbq ribs were terrible and the potato wasnt peeled this place needs a new chef. I guess thats why it was empty on a Saturday night at 6pm.

Nice looking furniture but very bad costumer service, waitress has no idea what serving costumers means, we actually had to ask for water after fifteen minutes of seating there and we felt absolutely ignored...food was half decent with dry meat... Improve your most important mission in restaurant business : Costumer Service. ... or negative reviews will pile up!

This was the worst Greek food I ve had .. the chicken was hard as a rock the potatoes were awful you didn t even get Pita bread I actually get better Greek food at the food court at the mall This used to be a really good restaurant it s gone downhill in all the years they lost my business

My husband and I had take-out roast lamb and calamari dinners. We loved both! We think the lemon potatoes are great and will be ordering again in the future.

The food was good. The place was nearly empty, I guess has not picked up yet since the pandemic.

Delivery orders are not their thing. They delayed the order for 1 1/2 hours before finally cancelling. We ate jam sandwiches for supper instead. We know better than to order food from here now

My family have been loyal customers here for many years. Lately, portions are becoming smaller and smaller. At first, pita bread was no longer included and now, portions of meat and potatoes are becoming less and less while price increased by a lot! No wonder its not as busy as it used to be!

Rice 10/10 Chicken skewer 10/10.... But their potatoes !!! 12/10 Had to knock them down to 4 stars because they used to give you a whole potatoe with a dinner now ITS JUST HALF A POTATOES!!! ...Very disappointing

had a awful experience ordering door dash, waited over and hour and didn t get delivered so I went to pick up. Manager (or owner, I didn t ask) had kitchen reheat all my food, and when manager had issue s with door dash and payment, and wasn t impressed we waited over an hour for our food, ended up giving me my entire order (150.00$) for free because of entire issue which wasn t their issue, but door dash. Our food tasted wonderful even though we waited over an hour to get our food due to door dash, and we were super impressed with the way the manager handled issue. We ll be back for sure, except we will eat in restaurant so we can enjoy it hot and fresh next time. Thank you again for your patience and kindness in serving us tonight, and I appreciate you being unhappy that we were going to be eating old food. I appreciate you caring about the customer s opinion, food was great despite the wait between eating it, will be back for sure.

Get the salad. Always get the salad. That dressing is to die for.

The food is not consistent. The last time I ordered, it was mediocre and they skimped on the portions of the skewers. We didn t get any pita with our souvlakis which was odd. Definitely the best Greek restaurant in Maple Ridge, but like I said, not consistent quality.

Ive been here a few times and each time the food is great, service is very helpful and kind, and the food comes pretty quickly, only problems was that this time it didnt taste as amazing as last time, but overall its an amazing restaurant.

Service is incredibly lovely, the food is amazing and theyre incredibly accommodating! The spanakopitas are the stuff of dreams and the serving sizes are insane. Absolutely would recommend.

Im not very happy with the take out service today i ordered thru uber eats.... Asked for no onions on 2 salads due to allergies, got loads of onions on both called socrates and spoke to the cook.... He told me they dont have a driver to bring me a new order and to talk to uber eats even thou it WASNT their fault at all... well i dont have access to a car since i uber eats.... Told me unfortunately pick threw the onions and if i can get a way over to them they would re due the salads.... Well i cant and now ive paid $50 for an order with no credit or anything to throw the salads out since its an allergy! He also admitted to just briefly looking over the order when it comes in on their end but clearly not reading it properly....now its my problem and my money for supporting a buisness i love to be treated like that! My mom and i have been coming here for as long as i can remember! Extremely disappointed! Never again!
