3636 Steeles Ave E, Markham, ON L3R 1K9, Canada
Strip-mall joint serving dumplings, hot-&-sour soups & other Chinese bites in a tiny space.
Been going here for probably 10 years maybe more. I always take people here when I can. They make the dumplings fresh when you order. The classic Chinese dishes are excellent. They make a bunch of soup dumplings, which are rare. The regular dumplings come in prob 20 varieties too. Lots of classic flavour offal dishes, and things that the western folks may find wierd. I'd always get a large hot and sour soup to start, easily shares between 5 people. I like MaPo , and they hit it with enough Sichuan peppercorn to numb moose lips, which I love. This place is a favorite of mine, even after eating in literally a hundred places in markham and Scarborough. If you want a dumpling place, this is a winner. And it's way cleaner than it was a decade back. Try to go in off hours, it's nice to set aside an hour or so for a proper feast.
Excellent fresh dumplings made to order and probably the best hot and sour soup I've had in Toronto. Lamb dumplings are very good. 🥟🥟🥟 Fast service and good sized servings for affordable prices.
The dishes is a bit salty, if eat with rice is ok. Only the Hot and sour soup is better.
Cook sounded like real northeastern Chinese. Dumplings were fine. One can choose from steamed or cooked for the same price or pan fried on a slightly higher price The “chive box” was more like deep fried, texture is a bit different than u might expected. Muxi Rou was a bit different as well, the shape at least. Taste was authentic but it’s really the first time I have this dish with shredded instead of sliced pork. I guess they use the same preparation for the cold dish of glass noodles. Other than that it’s very worthy the price. And service was good. She came and took the order of dumplings first in order to reduce our waiting time since the dumplings are really made on order on spot.
Visited on March 12, 2024. Had the beef fried rice and pan fried 饺子. The beef fried rice had a smokey flavor but was well seasoned. It is reminiscent of fried rice from Chinese places 20+ years ago. Would not recommend getting fried rice from here. The pan fried gyoza was quite good though, juicy, flavorful but not too flavorful and oily. Would recommend this.
Small restaurant but fast service. Fried dumplings were crispy and the filling was seasoned. Steamed dumplings were inconsistent in size as the table beside us had dumplings that were twice as big. Egg and tomato soup and cumin lamb had good flavour.
This location of the shop is great! The sercive is good and the food is always delicious! They put in a lot of work for the food and the taste of the noodles and dumpling bring you a sense of the cultural spices that are used. The environment is great and friendly! Always a great place to go with friends and a small group. Additionally, they serve you tea and water plenty, and the soup they make is spicy, savory and fresh!
Wow. First time eating at this place. The hot and sour soup really good, really spicy and sour. #130 minced pork and soya paste noodle brings back childhood memories. The only disappointment is the dumpling wrap, it is a bit thick.
The private room is a bit small, and it is connected to the lobby, so there is a lot of noise.
Good service
Good place for dumplings.
This place is scamming people. They have an online order method where you pay ahead of time. You get there and they say it doesnt exist & that they stopped doing online order. So why is that link still on the website and why was I charged? BUYER BEWARE they will not make your dish for you.
Classic mom and pop shop slinging out delicious morsels at great prices. Took my girlfriend here for her first experience with Chinese dumplings and she was a big fan! Love supporting small businesses. Give these guys a try, you might just get hooked!
A decent little shop.
Got takeout from here and it was very inconsistent. The eggplant was amazing, the singapore noodles were amazing. But the dumplings were NOT delicious at all. They lacked flavour and seasoning and the dipping sauce was not balanced. Given the abundance of choice in this area, I wouldnt order dumplings from here again.
Taste good
Would give 6 stars if possible the dumplings are good
Food quality has deteriorated since. Service is almost none. Small premises with crowded tables.
A small restaurant. Dumplings were great, got the 15 dumpling set (choose 3). Dumplings were fresh and decent size. The pan fried dumplings were definitely worth going for. Regular soup is a sharable size for at least 2 people. Would definitely come here again for more dumplings.
I ordered Laotang Dried Tofu, which was not even as good as the ones cooked in plain water. The filling of the dumplings was too small.
Phenomenal food fried rice was the best I ve ever had
We have stopped by here so many times that Ive lost count. We love this neighborhood. Very walkable and safe. There is plenty of parking, even though it feels hectic. There always seem to be a lot of cars coming through. Everything is delicious. I struggle to make something we havent tried or one that we didnt like. I love to watch the dumplings being made. They are just powering through non-stop. If you go here, enjoy!
Good food, very reasonable prices, especially the dumplings. Dumplings were hand made, and the filling were well seasoned and juicy. There are also vegetarian options for dumplings

wcnmd Do you understand CNM? Which Northeastern dumplings in CNM are steamed dumplings? I wanted to eat leek and eggs. I was told that leek and eggs can only be steamed dumplings. If I wanted to eat steamed, I ordered something else. I ordered fresh meat and cabbage and it was steamed. Do you understand? CNM. One staple food/one meat and one vegetable. I forgot to make the staple food, meat and vegetables. Besides, the price is too expensive. Compared with similar restaurants, what kind of restaurant should I open with such virtue? Who eats who Big injustice Boss Four Family Thank you
Good dumplings, sweet and sour soup, onion pancake. Good value.
Food is not cheap, but good for the price Dietary restrictions: If you have any food allergies, avoid the place. Food : 4/5 |
Absolutely delicious. Need I say more.
Very rude waitress. She doesnt like the tips.
Steamed dumplings are delicious!
Staple dumpling restaurant in Markham. Been coming here for years, quality is the same, portion hasnt changed, slight pricing increase but expected from inflation. Will def recommend. Food : 5/5
Dont come hear for the atmosphere. Come here for the Dim Sum and Dumplings! Weve enjoyed the steam and fried dumplings. If your okay with lamb, go for the lamb dumpling or the leek pork dumplings.
Overall a good place. Soup is very tasty, pork bone is amazing. Sometimes dumplings sticks together but not affect overall taste. Be prepared to wait in line. Recommended dishes
Great classics great price
Been coming here for over 10 years, and theyve been fairly consistent. Great dumplings and noodles. Food : 5/5
Excellent food with great customer service.
Great food - fresh, tasty, distinct flavours, deeply satisfying. Delicious dumplings as well as other items. Good friendly service.
Real Chinese dumpling restaurant
Came here for a quick bite; tried some of their pan fried dumplings, some steamed dumplings and a beef and broccoli with rice dish. All of the dishes were very good - beef was tender and flavourful, dumplings were very tasty and made fresh. Overall for the 3 things it was about $40 after tax which is fairly reasonably priced.
This restaurant faces New Century, so the entrance is on the North side of the plaza. The menu has more entrees than snacks, but the food we ordered was subpar. The soup noodles lacked flavour, and the dough of the steamed lamb dumplings was too stiff. The only thing I liked was the soy milk.
Taste very good and big portion! Traditional and authentic Chinese taste.
That s rubbish. First time reviewing a restaurant.
I bought two mutton steamed dumplings and one leek and pork dumplings here today. I ate them at home and felt there was something wrong with the mutton dumplings. I called to complain that the sesame oil in the stuffing of the mutton dumplings had gone bad. There was a lady who might be a chef. She answered the phone. I didn t taste the sesame oil at all, so I emphasized that there is nothing wrong with sesame oil and that I have a great taste. , you will know the problem as soon as you taste any food, and I have more than 20 years of experience as a chef. I found the problem and complained, and I felt helpless to get such a reply. Hey ~ I am speechless. I don t know that the owner of this restaurant has read such a comment. What was the reaction?
We haven t been here for a while and wanted to try their dumplings again. We ordered a few of our favourites- steam pork, leek and shrimp dumplings, pan fried pot sticklers, deep fried egg, chive and vermicelli dumpling and chicken fried noodles. They came out nice, hot and moist. The flavours were just perfect. Well I can say it s good to be back. Will be visiting more often!
The pork belly is good The large intestine is fatter, sweet, and not tasty. Da Lapi is not the authentic mung bean vermicelli from Northeast China, so I don t recommend ordering it.
A genuine restaurant for Northern Chinese cuisine.
Always enjoyable dumplings and pan fried onion cakes, but the sign outside takes the cake - Chineses (sic) Dumpling House
Wandered in without expecting much and great food. Had the chicken cashew, grilled fish, and caramelized apple for afters. Friendly staff. Simple place. All four of us enjoyed.
Food is ok. The chef definitely smoked cigarettes inside the kitchen, though.
Delicious and authentic Chinese food. Portions are big. Definitely will come back again.
When it comes to service its a hit and miss
Ive been to this place since high school, and I love their steamed beef radish dumplings, but it is hit and miss as sometimes the chef makes it very salty. However, this time was a jackpot as they made it less salty and I found it less fatty compared to eating xiao long bao. Ive been to many other dumpling houses, and I noticed that ever since they became a franchise, the dumpling quality has dramatically gone down, and I dont understand why they still receive high ratings. They are not authentic anymore. If you dont mind sitting in an old-style restaurant, I highly recommend trying their steamed dumplings here.
Dumplings are good, Lamb pot with winter melon tastes good. Food
Came here for the first time its an okay place they have good dumplings and good soups however they dont have hot sauces or any other extra condiments that should be there with the food. The ambience is okay could be better. The service is really good though people are really nice and help out understanding the menu.
Stir-fried pork with pepper and fresh winter melon and mutton soup. Steamed three-fresh dumplings, a delicacy with a long aftertaste.
Dumplings are always delicious Kid-friendliness: Children love to eat
Great place to get dumplings, crispy or boiled they come in hot and tasty.
The soup I ordered was good, with a lot of delicious ingredients, and the dumplings were full of flavor, but it was a pity that they were steamed dumplings. I didn t order much stir-fried dishes, but I ordered the pot-stuffed pork with caution...the tomato sauce tasted bad.
The Northeastern fried rice noodles are too thick. After drinking the hot and sour soup, my mouth is full of the taste of chili sauce.
This is my favourite dumpling spot. Dumplings are very fresh and beyond delicious. I am a very picky person in regards to food and yes, this place is great. I can t wait to come back. I totally recommend it if you like dumplings. Service isn t that great, but when you order, it s fast, food tastes delicious, and that makes up for it. I myself will be coming back.
One of the oldest remaining dumpling houses in Scarborough/Markham. Excellent flavours and variety of steamed dumplings. Plethora of other dishes to choose from as well. Always a good solid go to for home style food at reasonable prices.
I love their steamed and fried dumplings. Especially their onion fried bread.
Many dishes, good tastes
We live in Belleville and specifically drive to have the food. Our small children love the food! We are Caucasian in background and never grew up eating this food but, we cherish it sooo much!
Great and delicious food
Been coming to this place for 15 years and its still great. Try the green onion cake and you wont be disappointed.
Good dumplings and handmade noodles are chewy Just a little bit heavy on the sauce for the veggies.
Vegetarian options: It has 2 kind of dumpling for vegetarians. Food
I used to love this place since it serves genuine North Eastern Chinese food. However, like many restaurants, due to the rising food costs, they have skimmed on ingredients. It is unfortunate. Food : 4/5
The dining environment is terrible, there is no service, and the food prices are not cheap. My friends from the Northeast said the taste is not bad. When you check out, the boss says, Why dont you give me a tip? I will never visit again
I dont typically review negative experiences, try to focus on positive ..but this one was so horrible, I have to share. First experience was going in to order and sitting in front of their order desk for almost 45 minutes while multiple tables came and went. I finally asked for my food and waited another 15 minutes. Second experience ( because I wanted to give it a chance since the food seemed good ) ... I ordered online ...got there and they said they would not make the food for me. UNBELIEVEABLE ... I will obviously never go there again.
Simple but very delicious! Cumin beef and dumplings been amazing! Extremely satisfying! Food : 5/5
Was ok!
Been coming here for over 10 yrs. I rarely get their dumplings, their main dishes are my favourite. Crispy chicken (get 2 orders trust me), great scallion pancake and then their vegetarian dishes are incredible. After 10 yrs it tastes the same. Incredible
Tried the veggie and mushroom dumplings and my son had chicken dumplings.Very tasty didn t feel thirsty after so no msg . The service was friendly and the food came fast.
Authentic Northern Chinese food with reasonable price. True hometown love in Northeast China The epidemic is rampant and we can see the truth, The east wind rises to see the light; The cold snow in the north reminds me of family affection, Taste the feelings of hometown with your own mouth.
Go here mainly for dumplings. Their red beef noodle soup should be called brined salted beef soup. Salty and tasteless. Their pork hock and vegetables is the opposite..looks saucy but no taste despite pork hock being tender. However their griddle intestines is very good.
Good dumplings and sweet &sour crispy pork
Tastes good Good price Worth going
Been going here for years and the dumplings never disappoint!
Fried pork ribs rice delicious Portion is enough for adults Again, I recommend everyone to eat there
Fresh homemade dumplings. Lots of choices. We had pan fried pork and leek dumplings, steamed chicken dumplings and onion pancake. Delicious
Okay so Ive eaten here since I was a kid and its been the same woman making the dumplings all these years. This is straight up the best dumpling place Ive ever been to and I dont trust dumplings from any other place. Their pan fried pork dumplings, and pork dumplings with chinese celery - cant go wrong with these. Other good dishes: green onion pancakes (super unique), meatball hot pot (direct translation from chinese is lion head meatball), sweet and sour crispy pork (different from your normal sweet and sour pork, theyre like slices instead of balls of pork with a different batter), hot and sour soup, and pan fried beef shank in pancakes.
Small old place. Dumplings is good & slice beef on bun are good.
I ate sausage, ancient meat, and roasted eggplant. There was no salt at all. The sausage and meat were not fresh. I had diarrhea three times after eating. I went around.
Average taste, will not return.
Love the chicken and mushroom dumplings served here
A restaurant with dumpling in its name that serve mediocre steam dumpling was a major disappointment. The steamed pork and cabbage dumplings we had were completely favorless. The texture of the noodles in the braised beef noodle soup was very good, cooked el dente and had a little bounce in your mouth like Chinese people like to say. However, the braised beef was Cantonese style braised beef brisket, the meat was cut into chunks instead of slices. The soup was also favorless. Of the three dishes we ordered, the best dish was the pork belly with garlic soy sauce. Slices of pork belly were melt in the mouth tender. If I want steamed dumpling again, this restaurant may not be my choice.
No non-sense family-owned dumpling restaurant. Has a lot of other dishes also. Dumplings are made fresh to order, you can see them being made at the front. 4 stars because food was very good, but not outstanding or memorable. Good quality food and very cheap.
Good food, excellent value
Ordered steamed dumplings and mutton. Both are not good. The dumpling wraps were dry like its made days before. Overall underwhelming. Unlikely to come again
Fresh made hard crafted dumplings in a classic Chinese greasy spoon. Simply classically fantastic.
Its a relatively good Northeastern style dish, and the boss is from Laobian Dumplings. But once I ate some stinky sausage, I quietly told the boss to replace it. I often go to the one on Route 7, which is better than this one. Worth a visit. recommend.
Great chinese dumplings
I was looking for authentic Chinese food and was so happy to find this place. The food is fantastic and the family owning it is so nice. They re known for they dumplings but my favourite is the sweet and sour soup. It is literally the best I ve had. You can also watch them make the dumplings fresh! The restaurant gets lost on the side of the building so look for the red sign in between the east and west parking lots. You can always tell it s going to be great authentic food when you re the only non Asian eating there.
I bought a portion of spicy beef. Not to mention the small portion, the beef was obviously not fresh. It was cooked extremely salty in an attempt to hide it. It was not enough to eat, and a lot of it was poured out. The price is even more expensive than the set meal next door, so don t go there.
I felt sick to my stomach after eating their box lunch at noon. After reading other people s comments here, I feel like vomiting but I can t vomit it out. That s the feeling. It s designated as using stale ingredients!
Unpalatable
Nice family owned place, the food is great. My favorite were lamb dumplings
Great little dumpling place - highly recommend!
Great handmade dumplings & good service.
very good.
Not satisfied with the steamed lamb dumplings. The momo tasted as if not fully steamed. Liked the stir fried beef with green onions.
tasty, fresh and cheap.
Don t order the sausage! ! If you dont know how to deal with it, dont deal with it. Its all smelly and hasnt been cleaned inside. Its all gone as soon as you eat a piece!
Had ordered lamb dumplings it was horrible.
Pretty good northern Chinese spot. The dumplings are my favourite!
Wait time was kinda long for the food but the dumplings were worth the wait, reminded me of eating homemade dumpling. The minced meat noodles was very surprising as the texture of the noodles was chewy and had a nice bite to it. But let me stress this point, CASH CASH CASH Very homey and 1000% recommend it to you guys
I like hand made dumplings
Prompt service and excellent dumplings
Regular dishes cooked right. Scallion pancake, fried rice, different pots, sweet cooked pork are all great. Don t go to the hwy 7 branch.
My order of Cucumber with Verm Sheet tasted horrible and price was not worth it.
Got takeout today and cant rave how delicious the food was. The food remained warm even though I ate them after 30 mins. The hot and sour soup is the best. Everytime I go here its a must order same goes for their dumplings. The service and food quality is great! Will definitely go back!
Delicious food at reasonable price
the greatest north eastern dumplings.
Fake Northeastern Dumpling Restaurant, no Northeastern flavor at all
The service was not amazing, some of the staff were pushy, but the food was ok I guess?
The dumplings here are the best! The lamb is my favourite. Its always made fresh and the flavours are good. The spicy hot pot is popular here so decided to try it and I also enjoyed it. The meat wrap is also really good but its a simple dish but made well. Definitely a good restaurant although service could be friendlier.
so so
Ok food but didnt get my whole order
It is my familys go-to lunch spot, and I particularly like its steamed dumplings, scallion pancakes and fish-flavored shredded pork.
Amazing food as always!!!
Not so good lately
Fresh handmade dumplings a lot of variety yummy.
A bit run down but still have great dumplings!
Been coming to this place for many years. Excellent value for what you pay, what you get.
Yummy dumplings! Fast service and dumplings made fresh on the spot! The hot and sour soup is great! Pan fried meat dumplings and crispy pork are also a favourite.
The rating is purely based on the food only
Wow ordered delivery, sold me some leftover dumplings, brilliant way to save money.
Love the dumplings here.
Update August 2020: Thought I would revisit given that the restaurant made it through C19. Oddly, the dumplings this time around were more dry than I find ideal and the soup okay. The green onion pancake was enjoyable though. Original: Check this place out for authentic Chinese dumplings, soups and other good stuff. Been here a few times and the price is fair for the quality and quantity. Easy to drive to with plenty of free parking in the lot. Order from the paper menu by checking off what you want. Not a high style place but in China the restaurants that specialize in dumplings will have an open view of the dumplings being made and you get a bit of that here to add to your dining experience. Definitely get an order of dumplings because that is really what this place is all about. Payment is only by cash or debit card. Enjoy!
Based on reviews I tried this place. (I also accidentally thought it was my regular place but called and ordered by mistake, felt bad cancelling so attempted it) I found it way to doughy the filling had little flavour. And it was covered it oil. I got 1: pan fried meat dumpling, and 1 pan fried and chives dumpling. Both were equally as disappointing. I never finished. For a large hot and sour soup, was so disappointed to see tomatoes in it. It was mainly water and tasted of water. When you order pick up they don t understand English. Which is fine, but a server or worker should speak enough English to order over the phone. I won t be back.
Went last week for dinner with my boyfriend. His first time trying it. He loved all the dishes. Im so glad I brought him here, i was like you need to try some nice authentic dumplings and all. You need to try it. even though yes, they dont speak much English. need to support the local mom/pop places. FYI the menu is in chinese and english. :)
Not as good as I remembered, but still a good place for a casual dumpling
The dumplings have always been delicious. The three delicacies and the pork dumplings in the pot used to be bad. Maybe the chef needs to be replaced.
Good service and the food is very tasty! Strongly recommend.
pretty great, food is authentic for me !
Used to be good, food quality has gone downhill. Food is bland and tasteless. Many dishes were missing spices and dishes were over fried. Would not recommend!!
Great customer service and delicious food. Portions are huge!!
Delicious food.
One of the best chinese restaurant I came across in the GTA
The dumpling fillings have no flavor, so what are you doing here? How about making stuffed steamed buns?
Dumpling tastes good. But service is quite rude.
Types of food. Tastes good and reasonably priced
Pretty nice place to eat at; the pork fennel dumplings are my favorite to get. You get a good amount of food for your money, so there are not any real complaints I can think of. I go there to eat dumplings and they dish them out freshly steamed.
This place absolutely cannot be beat. Open that mouth wide, juicy dumplings coming in hot! Make sure you bring cash, but you wont need much of it since the prices are great.
good
The stir fried beef was good, but the sweet and sour fish was too sweet and not sour at all. Its a cash only place but we were not informed of this before but luckily had cash.
I used to love eating here, but this time I felt it wasnt as delicious as before, which was a bit disappointing.
Cash only place. The servers are chatting and the service is poor. The dumplings we ordered is salty. And tea was not good.
Stomach feels uncomfortable after eating
Wow. One of the better dumpling places I have been to in North America. Their lamb meat dumplings are great. Juicy, you can really taste the lamb and it is NOT gamey at all. The beef soup is like a super nice hot and sour soup with good amount of beef stew. The noodles are great also. This place gets busy during lunch but normally OK if you are there 10 minutes before noon. BTW, owner Mr. Weng is very friendly and humble. You can see his team hand making the dumpling at the front of the restaurant and you know they are fresh!
Very delicious and alright service.. they can t really speak English other than the manager but who cares when the food is good!
nice dumpling
There are many varieties of dumplings and they taste good.
Some real Authentic northeastern dish. The portion is a bit small. Above average taste for some dishes.
I am almost afraid to review this place since it is such a gem and I dont want to reveal it to the world. But as a Foodie, I must share. This diamond in the rough is in Metro Square-ample parking, by the way. Cash only to note. I am in love with their pork and leek dumplings, green onion pancake and red bean bun with sugar. The green onion pancake $5 is fried to perfection and just melts in your mouth. Crispy outside and delish fillings inside. And let us talk about their dumplings. 15 dumplings for $8. I can finish 15 of them in matter of minutes. Mix soya sauce and red vinegar for dipping. Its like dumpling addiction. I am amazed every single time I eat here. And their red bean sugar buns. 8 of them. I could die after that-thats how delicious they are. I say this is 100 places to visit before you die. Dont expect a fancy place though. Rickedy old front door and compact space. Nonetheless, I will be coming back here over and over again.
One of the gems in Metro square, great food with reasonable prices. Worth to go again and again.
This has been the go to dumpling place for myself and friends whenever we feel like enjoying freshly made, juicy, steamed dumplings that have the perfect fillings and an unique bite to the skin that you only get from the way theyre steamed. Definitely beats all the dumpling places in Chinatown. Its like as high end as Ding Tai Fung, but its like a small fraction of the price, very worth it. They also serve authentic northern Chinese dishes like beef slices with chinese pancakes, mushu pork (best Ive had was here) etc. Ive seen their chef stay here for 5+ years Ive been coming here, I think thats the key to their success.
Far inferior to the other one
