8360 Kennedy Rd, Markham, ON L3R 9W4, Canada
Hong Kong Style Cafe, Open daily from 7:30 am to 8:30 pm. We serve Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
First time here, ordered the afternoon tea special with pork cutlet soup ho fun that comes with a hot beverage. The pork cutlet was nicely battered, good oil and crispy outside and juicy inside. Ho Fun was good and not soggy. Extra brownie points for them serving the pork cutlet on a separate plate from the soup noods. In terms of service, the two ladies are hardworking, cleaning, serving and preparing, but they don't really communicate or smile, that's the only drawback but typical cha chen tang service. Kind of feels like placing an order was an annoyance or inconvenience to the server or something. LOL Other than that, I would definitely come back to try other stuff, such as it's stir fry beef spaghetti or singapore vermcelli afternoon special (at $9 CDN) comes with a hot beverage? it sounds good.
Service was meh, made my family feel like placing an order was an annoyance to the server. The restaurant is small, felt cramped and loud in there when it was full house. Tried their Baked chicken steak with tomato and cream sauce on rice, Hainan chicken and Chicken steak vermicelli... not impressed with the taste and quality. Only thing I like about this place is their milk tea.
Food 4/5 Service 3/5 Vibe 4/5 New Hong Kong Style Cafe in Markham (new Kennedy plaza) Came here on a Sunday for Lunch and it was PACKED! I personally thought everything was great, similar as other hong kong style cha chan tang 茶餐厅. But i gotta say their Hong Kong style Milk Tea was 5/5, so silky and smooth. I personally love eating at these fast food style Chinese restaurant and everything is quite local and authentic. So great addition in Markham!
This was not the place we wanted to go, but the original restaurant was closed today. We went at the afternoon tea time, and the price was, in fact, attractive. We ordered the Kaya Coconut French Toast and take out for Singapore style fried vermicelli. The French Toast was good and served very hot. The milk tea was in standard. However, the vermicelli was very salty, thus deducting the rating. No expectation, and therefore, no disappointment.
I came for afternoon tea time. Quick seatings. Good service. Decent ambiance. The soup noodle was good but the other 2 dishes were okay. The fried vermicelli was bland and the French toast didn't have much of the centre (Kaya). Out of 3 dishes, only 1 was good. Overall not bad. I would come back to try the rest of the menu.
We're in that plaza for the New City Restaurant, but it was closed. That's how we came across this little Hong Kong style cafe named Gold Spring. The restaurant looks clean and bright, and the staff is friendly. But for some reason there's a bunch of small flies hanging around (we heard the staff complaining about it too). The most funny thing is one of the flies entered our sugar jar and got trapped there. We had to open the jar cap to release it. The food is just ok. We ordered Beef Brisket & Tendon Rice Noodle (牛筋腩河) and Fried Pork Chop with Fries (炸豬扒薯條). The rice noodle is alright. Not the best taste (the spice for making the beef brisket is not very authentic HK taste). But they filled up the bowl with rice noodles up to the edge and included a good amount of brisket (though I wish they gave me more tendon instead). It's super fulfilling. Fried Pork Chop with Fries was disappointing though. The price is not especially cheap but the portion is half of what we got from other restaurants. That being said, I love their drinks, specifically Iced Yin Yang (凍鸳鸯). It keeps me awake real good. That's actually a good thing for me and the reason I love coffee/tea at HK style cafes.
Came across this place and got their milk tea for takeout and it was surprisingly good, better than 90% of other ccts coz the tea is strong. We came back to try their food and was pleasantly surprised, the food was better than expected given their low rating. We had the bolognese spaghetti which was very good, and the stir fried udon which also was great portions for the price. We saw many other tables get their stir fried noodles and it looked good! I would definitely come back to try their other dishes. I like their milk tea alot!
Another day, another after-work meal with fellow foodie, Jennifer K. She knows where to find all the inexpensive places with good food! Gold Spring, located on Kennedy, south of Hwy 7, is a relatively new Chinese restaurant, offering good food at reasonable prices. We ordered from their Afternoon Tea menu - Singapore Style Vermicelli, Fried Rice Noodle with Beef, and Coconut French Toast. All dishes were under ten dollars, with decent sized portions. The flavours were good but the presentation could have used a little work. The restaurant was clean and bright, and the service was quick and efficient. Not a bad spot at all. I'll be back!
I enjoyed their lunch (curry beef brisket, rice was good quality) and milk tea had this smoothness you don t find everywhere. Service: bad HK style attitude so don t expect much
Overall the food is pretty good, the beef brisket ho fun amd chicken steak are better than most places and the drinks are good too. Service is pretty standard as well, tho it may be hard to get the waitresses attention during busy hours. Atmosphere is good.
I like their breakfast . Lunch/ dinner it s not as good, but doable. I am not sure what it is - maybe the chef in the PM isn t as skilled or just me not liking the flavours.
Ping Liangzheng
Authentic HK cafe food with 90 s HK cantopop music background . Will definitely come again .
I go here often with my family for the lunch special. I like their spaghetti balognese. If you like a canadian\ hong kong style blend its s good option to start. The special comes with a good sized soup. Either a vegie soup or a canto style one. I like the vegie one bc its got decent anount of vegies and the soup is spicy sweet & tangy. You also get a free drink with the meal. The milk tea coffee are decent. Cold lemon tea is really good it comes with decent amount of lemons. The portions are great size wise for dishes or drinks. Its quite filling. Definetly id recommend it ive tried a decent number of canto\ hong kong style food in this area and this one is great. The atmosphere is nice. Its decently spaced and has like a warm cafe\ restaurant vibe. Its chill when its not during peak hrs which is nice. Other dishes i think are good are the baked portugese chicken. Curry. Shrimp on spicy noodles which has a laska sausce on it. Their fried noodles are good too. Like the birds nest has really good texture its crunchy and tangy\ sweet. Price is quite afforadable too.
The place seems like old HK style.
I dont usually write reviews about places Ive gone, even if theyre mediocre or I didnt like one aspect about it. However, my experience here is worth writing about. I want to give it a two star due to me feeling bad for the apologizing waitress who was very respectful, but sadly, I cannot overlook the disrespect a lady in glasses and long hair had given me and my family. We decided to eat there since my aunt recommended it to us. We ordered two set meals that included two drinks and a drink on the side. My parents being elderly wanted less sugar/sweetness to their drinks. However, when the drinks came, it was clearly carelessly made since the sweetness of the drinks was over the top! The third drink came in a large glass (larger than the other two drinks) and we had thought it was due to the order being on-the-side. After taking two sips of the drink, the lady in glasses and long hair approached us and rudely said this drink is not yours. then proceeded to snatch the drink away. We tried to explain that we had already taken two sips and would be willing to pay the price for that size, but she ignored us and continued to head behind the counter (she was the lady who makes the drinks and a waitress served it to us). We were served another glass that was MUCH smaller than the first one. The service from that lady was so bad, my mother did not feel comfortable in the restaurant and could barely retain her appetite. We later saw her hand the same glass to a different table and she was all smiles and giggles. The COMPLETE opposite of how she treated us! When we received the bill, we mentioned how rude the lady was and how two drinks were made too sweet. The waitress handling our bill was apologetic and offered to dilute the drink with warm tea, but we refused because we wanted to leave the restaurant quickly. Needless to say, if you consider coming to this restaurant, their food is okay, the waitress service is okay, but the lady making the drinks is very rude and impolite. I dont think we will be returning and you should consider looking at other dining options.
I am so disappointed in the workers. I had a latte with me me that i left outside so i dont bring outside food inside the restaurant. I paid for my takeout order and was out in less than 5 minutes. But when i left the restaurant, i saw that someone messed with my drink i had left outside. There were water drops on my lid so i asked the restaurant worker that was cleaning outside what happened. She didnt understand a single thing i was saying but i understand her. She said shs didnt touch it and i could drink it. I dont know what happened to it but if anybody bought a latte and found it somehow got water on the lid, they probably wont drink it. The cleaning lady really thought i was going to believe that she didnt do anything to it. She was the only one outside with a water bucket, gloves, wet apron, and cleaning the outside of the restaurant. The workers here have very little respect for others.
A HK style cafe located in New Kennedy Plaza/ Peach tree plaza. Price: $ Fast service but not as attentive Not suitable for young children as seatings are placed pretty tight. There are breakfast menu, lunch menu, afternoon menu and all day menu. Parking: During stat holidays and the weekend, parking space can be hard to find.
A small cha ching ting . I had an afternoon tea meal set, very good price. A satay beef noodle in a soup with milk tea for 7.75. and tastes good too.
For breakfast, I went to a tea restaurant where the service was normal and the business was always busy. It s not a restaurant that I want to enter because of the food reviews... I ordered a bowl of beef tendon and brisket rice noodles and a portion of satay beef rice and butter toast. Unfortunately, the soup base of the two bowls was really watery. The food quality is normal, I feel full and satisfied after eating, and I drink milk tea normally.
Ping Liang Zhengs choice Taking all aspects into account, it is good and average, one of the dining halls
Service bad Food mid Food
Average food, poor service
Cheap and cheerful.
Food and service was horrible. Had to call the waitress 3 times to order our food. Why put a piece of ICE COLD broccoli on a dish..
Foods are good and prices are reasonable. Service is alright. No complaint ..
I seriously love this place, and the price for the food is definitely worth it. Service is great and staff are very friendly! Most of their meals come with a drink, and their cold HK milk tea is definitely one of my favs, you pay additional $1.5 but its a much bigger cup and taste sooo good!
I like their milk tea and HK style iced lemon tea. The French toast is nice and fresh, love it!
Good pricing for the amount you get. the only down side is the beef in the satay beef rice noodle was a bit too soft no texture but the taste is really good. Overall it a good place to go and they open at 7:30AM while others are still preparing. That is the most amazing part.
Great foods and good service.
Ive heard terrible things about this place from aunties so my mom and I decided to check it out. Prices were pretty decent! Good portion size and the flavours are great. I especially loved the stir fried pork chop in udon: enough wok hei and food was served hot. Pretty fast too! As for the fish filet baked rice, it was average. Nothing stood out about it aside from too much sauce. The cheese wasnt very strong in flavour. Soup was much too oily. In the pic, that was half the oil bits. The staff were pretty fast but then again we went on a weekday for lunch. There were only 3 tables. Still, they were attentive. Very casual vibe in the restaurant like any typical hk diner. I love their wall of hk phrases although some were def from mainland China. They could improve their hk feel by putting on hk oldies from 70s-90s to match the vibe. Id definitely come back again!
I came here on a rainy Saturday around 10:45 am. The place was quite busy, around 80% capacity was filled. For a table of four, we were seated rather quickly and immediately given menus and hot tea. I like the layout of the restaurant as it is square, so table placement makes a lot of sense. Theres a decent amount of seating without being too crowded. Overall, very clean looking and the minimal decor with the use of signs on the wall is a cute aesthetic. The only downside I found was that every time someone opened the door, there was a huge draft that flew in, even though we werent really sitting all too close to the entrance. Its because despite a double door entrance design, the space between the two doors is not enclosed with a roof, hence all the air is pushed over and out. Mind you, today was also particularly windy and chilly. Ordering to food on the table time was decently quick - about 10 minutes or so (it felt like, I forgot to actually pay attention but it was by no means a long wait). I got the BEEF BRISKET VERMICELLI. Portions dont look big but the bowl is deep and packed! So I was very much satisfied. The broth was so flavorful without being too salty, with all the noodles soaking up the soup, it was delicious. There was also a good amount of brisket but I felt it was on the fatty side. I liked that it also came with some lettuce. My meal came with a drink of choice so I ordered the HOT LEMON TEA. The tea they use is different from many others - I found it to be less bitter, overall, above average. The service was efficient and friendly. Oh, theres a 10% discount on takeout orders! Theres free parking in the plaza but can sometimes be difficult to find due to the sheer volume.
This place has a pretty bomb bolognese spaghetti. Their iced milk tea is also really really good. This place is really affordable as well. Dont let the reviews scare you away, its really packed with older people that probably dont know how to write reviews and the reviews you see here are picky Gen z peeps.
The eel rice is good. The Chinese soup is thick enough, and the service is friendly and neighborly.
Good hk cafe food at reasonable prices
Service is terrible, we waited 15 minutes for ordering food, and it is not busy at all. The waitress kept ignoring us even though she was not serving other customers. Food is average and overpriced obviously.
We ordered Spam and egg instant noodles and satay beef macaroni. Both came with a slice of toast. Both items were freshly prepared. They were very hot. The instant noodles were not very good as they were not Nissin or Doll noodles. The satay beef didnt have too much favour of satay. Their milk tea was not bad.
forgot one of our order, no apology, just asked us with a rude tone do you still want it? wow.. amazing.. the guy waiter is much better than these 2 ladies.. absolute trash.
its ashame that 2 waitress here ruin the nice cafe.. horrible service from these 2 idiots. the male waiter is awesome. Food
I ve had takeout several times, and the milk tea is pretty good.
Food quality below average from the same plaza restaurant
The food here is not bad. Above average, pretty big portion and free drink under anything you order. The milk tea here is great. However, the air conditioning is not as good and the two waitresses do not look like they want to work here lol they look mean but answers your questions if you ask them. Typical Hong Kong style service
Cheap but decent food
The normal to-go hk style breakfast place.
Inexpensive cha chan ten cafe. Good quality HK Milk tea, but satay beef vermicelli is lacking jn satay flavour.
Three words to describe it: plain, beautiful and upright. The only thing I think is that the white bread has no taste, I think it s salty and I think it s sweet!
Great prices, foods are good in general.
Good restaurant with good food. Spacious enough as well.
Food Taste Good, Good Price, Good Service.
Reasonable price. Food is good as expected for a HK style cafe.
Dry fried beef river, braised rice with shredded pork and pickled vegetables too salty
A newer cha chaan teng in the area that I tried out with my mom. We went at a quiet time between lunch and dinner, and service was speedy and attentive. The interiors are spot on for a Hong Kong cha chaan teng and the food was as well. I wished there was more egg and more salt added to the egg sandwich, but the Portuguese sauce baked rice dish was just as it should be.
I ordered a chicken wing fries with milk tea for afternoon tea today. The chicken wings were okay, but the fries were burnt, dry and not hot, which was unsatisfactory...
A pretty classic Hong Kong cafe (cha chan teng) without having to wait a ridiculous amount of time in line for a table! The Guilin minced pork rice noodle in soup is a pretty popular dish (comes with a drink) but the rice noodles are a bit al dente The beef tendon & brisket rice noodle with soup was a bit on the blander end (also comes with a drink) Could never go wrong with a classic baked pork chop with rice! Comes with a soup AND a drink
Came here a couple times for lunch and will recommend it! The atmosphere is not bad, a tiny bit random, but it s still nice. The foods presentation is nice. I don t enjoy the fly s that roam in the restaurant, but other than that everything about this restaurant is nice.
I lived in this area for so long and didn t noticed this hk styled cha Chan ten. I like how this place is not busy. food quality is average and price is reasonable. Not sure why it s not as famous as other cha chan ten. Everything seems fine to me. Will come back and try again. Seems pretty clean too.
Simple no fuss solid HK cafe. Love their thick toast! Beef brisket ho fun soup is flavorful.
The food was inconsistent in flavours. I had the beef Brisket and vegetables on rice. It was really salty. My sister had chicken with a tomato and cream sauce on spaghetti. The tomato sauce was very acidic and cream sauce was bland. Service was better than last time I was there.
Baked pork chop was bland and terrible. Milk tea wasn t any better also.
I can t believe they serve this food in a restaurant. Food was cold, bland, tasted worse than what you make at home. Server has no reaction to anything, a robot would ve been a better experience. Only time she says a word is thank you when you re paying the bill as if you ll tip more. It s like an inconvenience for her to be serving you. If you re considering this place, please go elsewhere.
Great HK style restaurant. Great price and food . Best price/food .... 10% off on take out. $13 for lunch with soup . Portion can entertain 2 people
The gold medal pork chop rice, the fried rice base is tasteless, the tomato sauce is bland and tasteless, and the pork chop is solid. Disappointed , the chicken pieces in the Portuguese Chicken Spaghetti have turned out to be tasteless. It may be time to finish work at a close distance. When I finish serving the meal, a customer leaves. Sister Qitai picks up the table and throws the tableware into the dining car with great force. I only have two in total. Sister, you are so vigorous, and I stop you from finishing work. I said it was only at night (7:15pm) and I could go to other shops to eat! I was ignored when I asked to pay the bill. I asked him to pay attention loudly and then asked me to pay attention. After I lowered the bill payment amount, I threw the table and threw it away. She directly told another colleague sister (I had not yet walked out the door) and said it loudly. We didnt have any tips. My sister complained that the chicken had turned sour, so we didnt have any tips. I saw some online reviews that were very good, and I wanted to find delicious pork chop rice, so I got the idea! The milk tea (due to personal taste, average,) is disappointing I don t mean to slander others maliciously, but it s really hard to eat! On the last night, I ran two shows and had pork chop rice twice
I really like going to Jinquan for breakfast. It has many varieties and affordable prices. The milk tea is so authentic. Good environment and good service. Highly recommended!
The food, milk tea and greetings are all up to par! Hong Kong milk tea keep the standard! It s not the usual rush-to-go style Afternoon tea time is the most appropriate time, so you don t have to compete with others for a seat Si Chao Kung is so good at holding the skill, he even picked the sprouts before placing them in the wok for frying
Newly opened Hong Kong style cafe. Soft Open today and offers 10% off. Sevice is very friendly, both price and food are good, definitely will try again.
New restaurant that opened up today and I m super glad I tried it out. The food was amazing and is now one of my favourite restaurants. I highly recommend.
interior was very clean and organized. the staff are also super friendly and understanding. i m very excited to keep coming back here and trying their whole menu.
I absolutely loved this restaurant. it s great because i live very close to the area and its super efficient to come to. they gave out a delicious free desert at the end of my meal and offer super good prices.
Brand new restaurant. Food is ok. Price is reasonable. Need sometime to run in. HK milk tea just a bit bland, hope it will be better next time.
Its a hk Cafe... but the menu is exactly the same as blue ocean. You pay what you get. The food was not good, but edible. One star, cause I think all the 5 stars from others are fake.
New HK café and they were giving out VIP cards for 10% off which expires in September 2023. The menu is exactly like Blue Ocean but the food is way worse. Please do yourself a favor and go to Blue Ocean instead. We initially wanted to order the Hainanese Chicken but were told that its not available (mind you, it was only 12pm). Then we tried ordering the Malaysian curry with beef brisket and was told there was no beef brisket. Ended up getting chicken instead. The meal came with tomato soup which lacked flavor. Their milk tea is very weak, barely any tea flavor. Would not recommend this place.
I like this baked rice
Heard about this newly opened restaurant so we went yesterday for dinner. Friendly staff. We ordered curry pork chop rice, Japanese chicken w/egg on rice and Japanese chicken cutlet on rice combo with iced tea, iced milk tea and hot tea. Curry not spicy as expected as well the curry sauce was not enough to go with the amount of rice served. The Japanese chicken w/egg on rice came with too much bean sprouts and onion. Overall is ok
This restaurant just opened and its my first time here. There are two beef tendon soups with different prices on the menu. One is included in the afternoon tea menu ($9.50) and has the chef s recommendation. The other is on the Easy Lunch Card ($8.99). I curiously asked the waiter and she said they were the same and the same size. So of course it s called cheap. Here comes the pho, a small bowl. The beef brisket was cold (the next table had the same problem), but it was fine after dipping into the soup, a minor problem. The beef tendon is average, the braised flavor is not overpowering, but it is soft enough and easy to eat. The soup base is average. Lots of pho. The coffee and greeting were ok. Comparing the photos of afternoon tea beef tenderloin taken by others, I feel that the color of my bowl of soup is much lighter. There is a sea view of Hong Kong on the wall. I like it and will come again. But I won t order this meal again next time.
I used to always to go blue ocean cafe. I compared gold spring and blue ocean cafe, here is so much bette. The rice is less dry here and the drinks are so much better. I highly recommend eating here over blue ocean.
I don t know the so-called egg nugget, the beef is burnt and tastes bad.
New HK Style Cafe after BBQ place closed down. Not bad, not busy for afternoon tea time though. Lots of competitors in the plaza. Lots of combos to choose from. Friendly staff, nice and clean interior. No tv. Portions are smaller than your average HK style cafe. Good chili oil. Found a piece of noodle in my daily soup though. Spicy pork chop egg fried rice Good! Soft inside, crispy outside. Good flavours and boneless! Beef tendon brisket hor fun Its ok. Not a lot of tendon. Lots of noodles Milk tea Its ok.
Good sitting, food is fair, 10% discount; best cold HK Milk Tea
Foods are fine, however we have to wait more then 40 minutes for instant noodles/ tea and water to be serve. Need more staff for weekend!
Regarding the satay beef noodles with three-color beans, a shop assistant told me that it is a Hong Kong specialty????? Feeling full of gas after eating early in the morning
$12.50 for six tasteless tiny pieces of chicken, a little veggie, and plain rice. Did not taste good, not worth it.
Dietary restrictions:
Over all the price is reasonable and the food amount and taste is not bad.
In fact, there are many Hong Kong-style restaurants in Toronto, and they claim to be authentic Hong Kong restaurants. In fact, they are all lies. There are so many Hong Kong people there, most of them are students. Hong Kong people will know that you are Hong Kong-style as soon as you eat. Dont expect it. In short, I dont know what to do. I just said that I want to eat Hong Kong style and return to Hong Kong.
It was kind of packed on a Saturday morning, but luckily we only had to wait about 5 minutes for a seat. The food took a bit longer, maybe bc I ordered a baked dish, so I waited about 20 min for my food while my parents food came in about 10-15 minutes. I really liked the pork chop; it was soft and juicy, they already cut it up so theres no annoying bone to eat around, and there were no inedible chewy tendons or large pieces of fat. The tomato sauce was a bit tangy and makes me wonder if it was just from a can, but I liked how much sauce they gave. I also really liked the lemon tea. It was extra sweet/perfectly sweet for me, and the cup was huge. I asked for it in a takeout cup since I was going to work right after, but I saw the glasses they use for dine-in and they were also massive. They gave a lot of drink and it wasnt just full of ice like other places Apparently this restaurant was opened by an ex-waitress of Blue Ocean, which explains the similarity in menu. Tbh blue ocean isnt my fave (I prefer new city) but this is a good third option in the plaza if the other two are packed
Great food and very nice wait staff. The other 1 star reviews dont make any sense
Ordered baked rice with fish, comes with soup and a drink, very good price. Food taste good, especially the borsch soup, better than Pine Cafe which I visited a week ago.
Went for a quick lunch today as feedback been alright but very disappointed. Ordered curry beef brisket on rice, sauce very thin and no taste, not to mention beef brisket overly cooked and tasted like those meat left over from making the soup... One of the worst curry I had for sure, maybe I ordered the wrong dish as the place was 70% full still so people actually came here. The one star is for the soup and the HK style milk tea, soup not outstanding and milk tea is alright. Overall portion also small and if they want to maintain their business they better improve. I should have gone to the food court inside for better value and quality for sure.
New restaurant, busy at breakfast times. So far is good.
Unbiased review: Very yummy! My family and I used to go to blue ocean every week. We always got their chicken steak which is my favourite. When gold spring opened, we wanted to try it out. The portion of the chicken steak is bigger than blue oceans and it comes with a drink (blue ocean doesn t come with my usual noodle order). I see myself coming here regularly from now on. I still recommend both cafes if you re looking for authentic HK cafe food.
I came here for an early dinner few days ago. The environment is good, clean and tidy. Not a lot of people during that time, so service is not bad. Just that they have only one waitress, think they will need more in order to serve faster. Overall food is tasty, and with a relatively low price in compared to surrounding (for regular meal, not special period.) Highly recommend.
I came here for breakfast this morning. The selection was ok and service was good. I ordered pork chop with rice noodles. The pork chop was very thin and tasted too much baking soda. The milk tea was ok, but certainly not what I would come back for. Overall, I think there are better choices just a few minutes walk away.
Had spoiled crab meat. Told the server, and apparently the chef knew already, but still served it.
a traditional HK style resturant. that food show on video is a lunch comble. that under$10 that is amazing for today. Parking: go to suppermarket spot, it is easier to get a parking spot
