Had dinner on Nov 28 (walked in). Food was below average. Service was subpar (we barely saw our waitress). We had to call (raise hand) someone ourselves few times to remove the empty plates / to refill the teapot / to get more napkins. We won't return in the near future. With this price tag and subpar service, there are many better options in this neighborhood.

We were a group of 11 celebrating my husband’s birthday and were sat at an elevated corner of the restaurant that has 3 big tables. There was absolutely no interior decoration of that corner. Wall is white, table cloth is white. The whole setting is very basic and plain. We didn’t feel like dining in an upscale Chinese restaurant. I have been to the private room of this restaurant and it’s totally a different world there. We were disappointed of the setting. Secondly, all the dishes came out barely warm that night. We only had one dish that was hot. We even had to send back one dish because it was really not edible. Service was average not exceptional. I came here again because of my first experience in the private room but didn’t expect such a big difference without the room. Will I come again? No. The price here is not cheap and we didn’t feel we got what we paid for.

It’s no longer the same level of service and food quality than it used to be! We paid $500+ for this menu and the duck was not even presented to us, the duck in flower pattern was packaged at $30 premium and everything did not come hot. Service was poor as the servers accidentally served us the wrong dish, but subsequently took it away after one minute and said this was not ours!!! we all took a bite of it anyway I’m not sure what the server did to it… Every dish was smaller than it used to be. The tofu dish was very bland. Overall the place and decor was not well maintained and seems like there was a change of management and owner. It was definitely not worth this price point and you should go somewhere else for Peking duck, lots of places to choose from and competition in Markham.

TLDR; good service for a chinese restaurant as there is mandatory 15% tips added, atmosphere and decor WAS great when first opened, but now needs desperate refresh from cutlery to menus to walls, seats were too close together, food is decent but for the price point you can find better value. QJD, 160 year history, the supposed authority for Peking duck. Overall the duck was ok but the skin wasn't crispy/dry the way other chinese Peking duck restaurants have it. It's a different style so I can't fault them for it. Also they introduced a new way to eat the duck, the first set of skin was served with a mound of white sugar and was advised to dip, which no other place has. The wrap they keep on the table with a warming device aka steamer and hot water which was a nice touch. There was no option to cook the duck a second way like other restaurants as well, which was not disappointing but again, probably not the traditional style. Rest of dishes were pretty good but higher price than normal, which normally I wouldn't mind paying the higher price but the atmosphere didn't match at all. The decor was nice but the dishes were chipped, menus were old worn and dirty, walls were all scuffed up, washroom doors had small holes in them just to name a few. Also when I first walked in, it smelt like bleach which is good I suppose since they are cleaning but kind of a turn off for obvious reasons. Finally service, so for a Chinese restaurant is pretty good as they did earn the tip, checking up on the table a few times. So no complaints there. Overall I would still recommend coming here as we did have a good time overall, I just really wanted to like it more.

The food here is consistently good. I recommend the scallion oil noodles (ask for chili oil to add), fried pork buns and the half duck was perfect for two people to share. Great service. Quite a few reviews mention that the duck skin isn’t crispy, but I can assure you it is lol. Try this place out!

I had a sudden craving for Beijing Roast Duck and decided to try Quanjude in Toronto based on recommendations. However, the overall experience was quite disappointing. The food did not justify the higher prices, and I don't think it's worth a visit. Premium Whole Duck: The duck skin lacked crispiness, the meat was too lean, and the accompanying scallions were minced. Even the signature dish fell short of expectations. Given the relatively high prices in Toronto, this was a letdown. Not recommended! Crab Meat Tofu: The addition of frozen mixed vegetables seemed out of place. The flavors didn't mesh well, crab meat was scant, and sauce was watery, making it unappetizing. The kitchen did make a second attempt after our feedback, which was an improvement. Fragrant Eggplant with Assorted Nuts: Decent taste. Fried Rice with Dried Scallops and Egg White: Slightly overcooked but still decent in flavor. Squirrel Fish with sweet and sour sauce: Not recommended. Unimpressive taste and overpriced. Only good for social media photos. Lamb: Fatty meat but acceptable taste. Overall, the meal was quite ordinary and did not justify the prices, especially with the mandatory 15% tip.

It used to be one of the representatives of Chinese food in Toronto. The service is online, but the chef has changed. The dishes (including roast duck) are each oilier than the last. I probably wont come back to eat anything other than roast duck.

For a roast duck at this price point, the onions and cucumbers felt too inferior. The green onions felt broken and the cucumbers were of different sizes. You can place the duck on a hollow plate, otherwise the bottom will be soaked in oil until the end of the meal. Particularly greasy. Went for two and the service was average for a bill that included a 16% service charge. And I was never informed that the 16% service charge is mandatory. I didnt know until the bill finally came.

Relishing a wonderful family dinner on a special day and trying to decipher a Michelin guide puzzle at the same time! This world-renowned, iconic Beijing based Peking Duck specialist, spread its wings overseas a few years ago by opening a couple of offshoots here in Canada. First in Vancouver then followed by a Toronto ( Markham ) branch. At that time, when most up-scale GTA Chinese restaurants offer more-than-presentable Peking duck for around $60 a bird, QJD made news by charging a whopping $120 for a similar product! When Michelin decided to make Vancouver its second destination a couple of years ago. QJD Vancouver was awarded a 1*, making it the sole Chinese restaurant in Canada that received such honor! QJD Toronto, with similar opulent decor, menu offerings and pricing was expected to receive equal recognition. Sadly and mysteriously, it was completely ignored in the guide s two year history! Yes! No macaroon and not even mentioned in the recommendation section! Instead, during the same period, some ho-hum, western owned, pseudo-Chinese food outfits, ( Mimi and Sunny s ), managed to steal the spotlight??!! Maybe Toronto Michelin inspectors taste buds got short-circuited during their restaurants go around? Back to tonight s dinner. Our party of 7 arrived outside of the restaurant and were met with one of the grandest, most impressive, gilded and imposing restaurant entrances I have ever come across here in Canada! Upon seated in our cozy, semi-private room, we were looked after by a dedicated team of warm, friendly and attentive lady servers. The food we ordered were some of the best tasting Chinese food creations I have come across here in the GTA this year. A few real stand-outs include a uniquely composed Stirred fry mixed nuts and diced eggplant dish . So simple yet so spectacular tasting!! Another humble stirred fry dish of Winter bamboo shoots with diced Chinese Ham in brown sauce was so flavourful, we ordered a plate of scallion pancakes just to wipe up the sauce! The amazing fried rice was, hands-down, amongst one of the best executed fried rice dishes in the city. Smokey, aromatic and fueled with some amazing chili black bean paste and diced duck and Duck liver sausages. No wonder this rice dish was fit to be served to diplomats like Chow-En-Lai and Henry Kissinger! The house-specialty Peking duck was well cooked, carved and presented. Though the flavor profile and finishing of the lacquered skin was good, however, IMHO, it was a touch overpriced! Other dishes like the Sweet & Sour fried whole Pickerel and Braided Fish Maw with crab meat and creamy crab roe sauce were also enjoyable, though a touch under-seasoned. BTW, the bottle of Zind Humbrecht Goldert Gewurztraminer Grand Cru paired wonderfully with the Peking Duck! Based on the gratifying and pleasurable outcome of our meal, made possible by some creative and skilled cooking. It begs me to question why such high caliber and tasty cuisine of QJD Toronto, which mirrored it s Michelin 1* sister in Vancouver with comparable standard food, can be totally ignored by Toronto s Michelin Guide?! What were those inspectors thinking?!

Dont get any older before you visit this excellent dim sum destination. Yes, its best known for its dinnertime Peking duck, but visit before 11:00 am to avoid the waitlist. And Id be very surprised if you have ever had better shrimp in dumplings rich in taste with savoury additions. BBQ pork in soft pastry - all is yummy. The service is Michelin-level attentive, and the decor is rich.

The man was wearing light-colored clothes and scrolling on his mobile phone. He ignored everyone and looked like he had no love left. Why would you put a piece of shit at the door and act like a doorkeeper? Arent you just smashing your own sign? Regardless of the door keeper, there is nothing to say about the facilities, services and dishes inside. There is nothing to be picky about...even more delicious than Quanjude in Beijing

We went there after 8 pm, and there were still a lot of people. Because I was hungry, I didn t think of taking pictures until after eating, so I didn t take pictures of the roast duck. Although the roast duck cannot be compared with what is eaten in Beijing, it is still delicious, and the Kung Pao Chicken also maintains its original taste. Another new dish (forgot the name) is similar to the Sai Crab but a little different. It looks very good, but the texture is very hard and the sauce is not very good. It is not recommended to order it. The freshly squeezed watermelon juice is too sweet, and it feels like there should be added sugar. In fact, it could be less. The overall feeling is still very good, recommended!

We recently moved from China so have a a lot of insight into this brand and Peking duck. This place was mediocre at best, and for the price point I would definitely pass on this place. We chose it for a special occasion, and after the mediocre meal put quite a damper on the whole night unfortunately. The duck was weak, bland, not notable. We even over ordered and got a variety of dishes. I would say edible yes, will we come back? a firm no.

I am known to be a huge fan of Peking duck. I have been inseparable from it since I was 8 years old. When I was young, I used to eat one duck a day for about two years (that s probably too much). At noon on August 26, 2024, two family members and I visited the Markham Quanjude Roast Duck Restaurant in Toronto, which I had praised highly of them. I ordered a Peony Shengshi roast duck and three other dishes, moxibustion mutton (with a heated base, similar to Beijings Baylor mutton), stir-fried bean sprouts, Beijing-style dry croquettes and duck rack. After a while, the duck arrived. I felt that it was not freshly roasted because the time was too short, but I saw through it and did not tell it for fear of affecting the emotions of my family and Quanjude employees. When dining, you have to be in a good mood. Chef Yang first served ten slices of duck breast, which was in line with the rules. She had four slices each and I had two slices, a reasonable distribution. Then a total of 108 duck slices were served, thumbs up for the knife skills . I didnt count the duck slices, but I believe it was 108 slices. Because the insufficient number of slices is not a problem for us consumers, but it is a great disadvantage for the merchants, because the absence of the Liangshan hero means... 108 words have been deleted below. The duck slices served first were arranged in a peony shape on the template, which was really exquisite. This is also one of the gimmicks of this store. In Beijing, I have eaten duck from more than 100 well-known and unknown roast duck restaurants such as Quanjude, Bianyifang, Hongbinlou, Hongyunlou, Sijiminfu, Dayali, etc. I rank the duck from Quanjude Roast Duck Restaurant in Markham. More than 80 people. Duck: The only thing that matters is sex (it s very similar to someone s character, hahahaha). Knife skills: top-notch. Pancake: Disappointing, failed to fulfill the mission of pancake roll. Shredded green onions: Poor choice. Sauce: average. Three and a half of the five essential elements for eating Peking duck are missing. Of course, the service is still very good, so it can only be ranked in the 80s. Among the various roast ducks Ive eaten in Toronto, the duck from this store doesnt make it into the top ten (am I being too mean? Ridiculous?). Im just evaluating the duck, and I have no bias against the merchants. As the saying goes, a country is easy to change, but a character is hard to change. This is the case with the roast duck in this restaurant, because the roast duck is not accustomed to the local environment. But I still recommend friends to experience it. After all, it is a time-honored brand called Quanjude with more than 100 years of history. There are still many highlights in its store, operation, tableware, etc. 225.95 Canadian dollars before consumption tax (the price is quite reasonable). As a thank you to the chef, Master Yang, and several beautiful waiters, we will reward you with a mere tip of $60.

September 22, 2024

I recently tried the $298 set menu at Quanjude in Toronto, and it was definitely not worth the price. The duck skin, which should be crispy, was completely soft, and the meat was dry and lacked juiciness. It felt far from the authentic Quanjude experience. To make matters worse, they imposed a mandatory 15% service charge after tax, which left a sour note on the entire dining experience. Overall, the food quality didn t live up to expectations, and the forced service charge made it feel even less worth it. Wouldn t recommend.

I was staying at the hotel next door and was super excited to try QJD when I saw it. I hadn t had Peking duck since I was in Beijing 6 years ago. I took a friend and we went for dinner. We ordered a half duck, 2 appetizers ( a fish and a pork ) and some steamed rice. We were served our duck before the appetizers. Maybe duck served with the pancakes is a pre-appetizer I m not sure? Then we waited about 20 minutes and 1 appetizer came out, the fish. At that time we were informed that they ran out of the pork appetizer. That would ve been awesome information when we ordered the meal. The duck was incredible. What food we did get tasted amazing. But the communication between the wait staff and the kitchen clearly needs to be improved so unfortunately, the service for the price that you pay wasn t great. When we first arrived, we asked to sit by the window, and then they gave us some lame excuse about the table, not being set. Throw down some cutlery, the plates were already there. Poor service I think, never mind the customer. That s what it felt like. The atmosphere wasn t awesome just due to the fact they sat 2 of us at a round table for 10 or more.

I do not recommend this restaurant and will never return. Probably the most poorly managed Chinese restaurant I have ever been to. The Peking Duck was good. Everything else was bad. Our table of 2 ordered half a Peking Duck plus 3 dishes and two $20 soups. The first dishes that got served was the 3 dishes (veggies and meat stir-fry). Then they started serving the Peking Duck And when everything was finished, they started serving the soup. Absolutely ridiculous waitress and kitchen staff. IF their plan is to do everything in the opposite direction, at least warn us in advance. It s like going into a fancy steak house and they serve you the ice cream first, then the potatoes, and then the steak, and the soup last. The soup was a complete rip off, the $20 veggies soup I had tasted like it was made in 2 hours as opposed to 20 hours. The other soup was order, wasn t even the correct order, and the waitress insisted and argued that we order the wrong dish. None of the food at the restaurant was memorable. The only memory I have of this restaurant is bad customer service, poor management, and unexperienced staff.

Peking duck costs CAD 128 (on the top there is 13% tax and 15% tips) which is considered to be very expensive compared to the best ones in Beijing and Hong Kong. It reflects the typical mindset of high-class mainland Chinese restaurants, where they like to make the presentation extraordinary, especially in terms of plating. It is impressive how they plated the duck in a floral shape on a huge special plate, but honestly, the duck meat was already cold! The freshness and taste of the duck cannot compare to what you can get in Beijing, and the restaurant can only use an electric oven to grill the duck. Regarding the other two dishes: the eggplant is touted as an award-winning dish, but its not as good as they described in the menu. The other vegetable dish is a typical dish. As for the service, it was reasonable, but after I paid with AMEX, the server suddenly asked me to pay with Visa or MasterCard. Since the transaction was already completed, I refused. Whats the point of hassling the customer after the payment has been made? Are they just trying to save 1% on the AMEX fee, which is less than CAD 3? Its really frustrating and foolish to hassle the customers like this!

Great roasted duck, maybe the best in town. Food portion was a bit small though. Service was great. I personally dont like the duckling shaped pastry. The roast duck tastes good and can differentiate itself from the surrounding competitors. Other dishes are also good, the most impressive ones are black pepper beef tenderloin and salted duck gizzards. The service was very good when we went. What I am not very satisfied with is that the price is a bit expensive based on the portion size, and the dim sum is too average (I am talking about the crispy duck stuffed with jujube paste). I guess I will come back when I want to eat roast duck.

For the price point, this is surprisingly a poorly performing place. Duck prices at the time of the review averages at nearly $100 for a full duck, and around $60 for half, when opting for the traditional Beijing duck experience (involving a dough wrap with onion and cucumbers as additives). A lot of mishaps noted: - The duck was overcooked, mitigating the natural sweetness to duck meat and instead resulting in a rough chewiness. - Duck slices were somewhat haphazard in shape and size. - Good cuts in similarly priced restaurants will avoid cutting close to the glands that cause a strong gaminess to the flavour; this wasn t done with our serving. Other dishes we ordered were similarly disappointing. Dishes typically looked much worse than their menu counterparts, as you will see in our photos. More specific issues that we had: - The Japanese tofu dish is marketed as refreshing, but diners aren t told that the tofu is deep fried. The tofu itself uses a very common tempura batter; in our experience, this was so heavily coated and poorly fried that the result was nauseating, with bites leaving a strong tempura batter aftertaste and a heaviness from the overuse of oil. A surprisingly very poor performance. - The red wine beef brisket is sold as a bit of a fusion dish. While there is some sweetness to the brisket at the end, the flavour is otherwise very trite and regular for a dish of this style. - We had also ordered the winter melon dish and couldn t help but notice that the restaurant chose to use a combination of plate and dish that made scooping up the actual winter melon pieces impossible. You can pick up the pieces directly with chopsticks, but the whole point is to scoop the melon and sauce together. We usually don t nitpick on these things but again, as you ve seen with the $$ amount, this is not a cheap dining experience. The average meal cost would suggest a certain level of attention to these details that wasn t there. A really disappointing experience overall.

The other people in the dinning room were well attended too by the servers moving around quite a lot. Definitely deserved a tip. Peking duck was great and the flavor to me was above average of what Ive had. The other dishes were lacking in flavour. We enjoyed 2/6 dishes.

Quiet & decent place for family gathering. I heard that they was popular for their peking duck so I decided to check it out but result was pretty disappointed We came to the restaurant at 4pm, there is only 2 other tables & 1 waitress. Most of the teapot & dishes was broken, suprised for a restaurant like this to provide this type of service & quality. We was told that nothing on the menu is able to served since the chef was not there yet ( what kind of restaurant open but there is no chef? ) & we can only order dessert, peking duck or already made food which is somehow work out for us since we want to test the duck anyway. Ordered the duck & cold noodles then 20 mins later got told that the chef is there we can order more if we want which is really weird experience. The duck set was similar to original dishes to chinese but the duck quality is pretty low and way far to compare even to normal food court restaurant. Only the presentation make it somehow 30% worth of the price. Other foods was not good either. Price was too high for quality & service. Spend nearly $450 total for 3 people. Definitely not recommend or come back.

First time to dine in and had extremely damn experience today. Order the BBQ duck and the weird thing was the chef cut the duck meat in the far corner and we could not see it as usually we did in the other duck restaurant. Ordered a couple of dishes , and the taste to be honestly is lower than avergae. The duck skin taste not too bad (4/5) and the meat was awful it is too dry ....my wife stop to eat it after just taste a few pieces. The eggplant tastes ok (3/5), but it is too oily.. I used to eat the similar dish in the other restaurants and it is regular oil but the one right here was toooooooo oil.. we just left half over and took more hot tea The most awful part tonight was the servece ( a young girl with pigtails of mixed colour ) looks so cool without any sime on her face , she feels alike she lose the money in the casino.. we stayed in more than one hour and the only three times we asked for to refill out teapot were served by another young busboy ( he is very gentle and polite ), and this girl never never approach is to take away a dirty plate .. so there were a bunch of dirty dishes on our table even we got our dessrts.. again, we have to ask the busboy ( the one I mentioned above ) to clean up our table again as we have no space to finish our dessrts..we have been to the other restaurants million times ( especially the contonese restaurant), the serve take frequently clean and switches your dirty plates all the times .. Usually the server will.give me the desserts after we finished main course in the other restaurants and we have been sitting out there for more than ten mins with bundle of dirty dishes on the table...and nobody came up to us and asked us if we need anything else.. and we just sat there like a idiot ...And we have to ask the busboy if they offer the desserts to us and he said he was not quite sure about it and he need to ask chef.. I was thinking if he was well trained. :) Anyway, we got two bolws of sasame soup.. I personally think I can rate at (5/5) Even though I knew its a kinda of instant sasame powder .. my wife said the desserts were the best part of the whole dish..lol Friends of mine told me it is very good restaurant and thats why I showed up here tonight, but it feels sooooooooooo disappointed for whatever dish flavor and service ... I guess probably we r not luck tonight .... Absolutely we wont came back anymore and wont recommend to anyone we know... The funny thing was I saw the young lady ( mixed pigtails colour) finally laughed while she speaking to her colleague ( a sunshine smile like a angel ), and the next second came over to us showing me the pos machine and her smile disappeared quickly..lol what a fantastic performance.. The last question is if anyone can tell me if this restaurant is real duck chain restaurant from china ???if it is, why it taste tooooooooooooobad ??? The reason I made a one star is just because of the busboy ( gentle and polite)..he is supposed to be the server instead of the young girl ( mixed colour pigtail)

As a Beijinger, dining at QJD Peking Duck Restaurant in Markham was a nostalgic journey back to the flavors of home. Every dish I tasted tonight brought back fond memories of authentic Beijing cuisine. The Peking duck, in particular, was a standout, cooked to perfection with crispy skin and succulent meat.Beyond the delicious food, I was impressed by the interior design, which beautifully captured the essence of Chinese rich culture. The fancy decor and attention to detail added to the overall dining experience, creating an atmosphere that felt both elegant and welcoming.Overall, QJD Peking Duck Restaurant exceeded my expectations, delivering not only authentic flavors but also a taste of home. Overall, it was not a bad experience at QJD, which is a nice and clean restaurant with professional and friendly staff. While the cold dishes were interesting, the duck was phenomenal and was nicely presented and prepared right in front of us. However, were disappointed with the dish sizes, given that they were extremely petite for the prices charged!! Despite this, I would still recommend QJD for the experience, as long as you are prepared to spend a significant part of your budget. Im thrilled that this renowned Chinese eatery has opened a location in Toronto, as it allows me to indulge in these mouthwatering duck dishes without having to travel too far. We went to eat the night before yesterday. We booked a private room with a low price of 600 dollars, and the waiter kept selling extremely expensive dishes. I ordered a lobster, which was probably the largest lobster in the store, and they didnt tell us how many lobsters there were. It felt like it had shrunk a lot when it was finally served. The service in the store focuses on forced buying and selling. The taste of lobster is really not as good as in Cantonese restaurants. Paid more than 1,200 knives

Made a reservation for 4. We ordered a whole Peking duck with the rice wraps and the large kale and exotic fruit salad, and also had two bottles of white wine. The bill with 20% grat. came to $400. We were served the meat what looked from half of a duck and when we asked for the rest of it the waiter brought the duck torso in a takeout plastic bag. I spoke with the manager and he apologized and took the plastic bag away and offered us another half of duck meat- which looked as it was the same quantity as the whole duck from previous. He further explained that the restaurant keeps the torso to make congee. . But I paid for the whole duck. Why was it not served at the table cut into pieces like other restaurants I ve had Peking duck from???

The restaurant is clearly known for their duck. And they have a lot of other duck related dishes, very creative and unique. My first visit, I ll probably go again. But I was very disappointed with their house special sweet and sour fish. I was so so looking forward to trying it but sadly it was sub par. The fish batter was gummy, and slimy in texture. There was no crunch. The fresh of the fish was tasteless without the sauce. The Peking duck though was good. The wrapper was the highlight. We also ordered the scallion pancakes (they were mid), but the pan fried buns were delish. So all in all, it was a hit and a miss.

Peking duck was pretty good although the slicing of the duck wasn t done near our table, it was done behind near the kitchen unfortunately. We were only 3 at the table so there was space to actually bring the duck slicing process near our table. We also went past 1 pm and there were only 3 tables occupied at our section so it wasn t due to space limitations. Flavour wise, the duck was juicy and the skin was crispy. We had enough meat sliced to satisfy all 3 of us. Unlike in Dayali where we only had one small plate of sliced duck served, here in QJD, we had 2 plates, more than enough for 24 pcs of pancakes. We also had an eggplant dish with shrimps and peanuts, the dish was served with a tea light underneath to keep it warm. We really liked the flavour too. The rest of the duck bones were fried crispy, we also enjoyed this very much. Leo was a server and he did an excellent job of attending to us. Even the lady server was quick to refill our teapot. Atmosphere- nice and quiet. They had a dragon balloon displayed and it was a very intricate dragon, quite impressive! Total bill for duck, eggplant dish, crispy duck bones plus tip $189.

My least favourite were the desserts, the pastries came out dry and tasted like it was made overnight. Definitely not fresh out of the oven but the waitress was nice enough to give us the duck pastries for free. Staff here were all friendly and professional, I would recommend QJD, try it once for special occasions but don t come here too often as the prices are really steep.

We were celebrating Valentine s Day in a group of 8. We were given a table in a tiny room without windows, and the waiters had to ask the guests to move every time they served food. This was quite annoying. The service was average. We had to refill our glasses with wine ourselves. Outside the room there was terrible noise. It seemed like they were stacking dirty dishes or something. Given the music and the atmosphere (calm and relaxing) these sounds were distracting. The prices are inadequately high. We ended up paying $300 for a family of 2. I understand that peking duck is a delicacy, however, the duck taste and the food taste overall wasn t worth it. The crew made a show out of pecking duck serving, but it was broken with the taste, small portions and poor serving. I recently dined at QJD Peking Duck in Markham, and unfortunately, I found the experience to be rather disappointing. While the presentation of the duck on a flower plating was visually appealing, I have to agree with many of the one-star reviews that the price does not align with the quality of the food. Hence, Im giving this restaurant a two-star rating. Lets start with the main issue: the high prices. I found that everything on the menu was significantly overpriced. While I understand that Peking duck is considered a delicacy, the prices at QJD were simply unjustifiable. The exorbitant costs extended beyond the duck itself and encompassed the entire menu. It left me feeling like I was paying for the ambiance and presentation rather than the actual quality and taste of the food. Speaking of taste, I found the overall quality of the dishes to be underwhelming. Despite the visually appealing presentation, the flavors failed to deliver the same level of satisfaction. The dishes lacked depth and complexity, and they did not live up to the expectations set by the restaurants reputation. I was hoping for a memorable culinary experience, but unfortunately, the food fell short. Furthermore, the portion sizes were quite small for the price. Considering the high prices, I expected more generous servings. This, combined with the lackluster flavors, further contributed to my disappointment. While the restaurant may have received positive reviews for the presentation of their Peking duck, I have to agree with the consensus that price does not equal quality. The inflated prices and the underwhelming taste of the dishes left me feeling unsatisfied and questioning the value of the dining experience. In conclusion, I cannot recommend QJD Peking Duck in Markham based on my experience. The restaurants high prices, coupled with the underwhelming quality of the food, make it difficult to justify dining there. While the ducks presentation was visually impressive, it ultimately failed to compensate for the lack of flavor and value. If youre looking for an authentic and satisfying Peking duck experience, there are better options available at more reasonable prices in the area.

This is probably the worst QJD location I ve tried. Granted, it s slightly cheaper, but I was surprised by the difference in service and food quality. We ordered the roast duck and usually, the chef comes out to cut it in front of us. However, at QJD Markham, the chef hid in the back corner of the restaurant and cut the duck there. It was quite a strange experience and not typical for peking duck. The other dishes were a bit greasy but they weren t terrible. The kung pao chicken has good flavour, but it was in a pool of oil. While dining, we could hear the chefs in the back yelling at each other in Mandarin and one of them was screaming what do you want? nonstop. It was a bit jarring and not at all professional. QJD is a very respectable brand for peking duck and unfortunately, the Markham location totally missed the mark. I would recommend others to try R+D or Dayali instead.

Quan Ju De is found of my childhood memories. After the pandemics, QJD restaurant wakens all my taste buds. The 7.5 pound lobster, the 50 ways to cook represent a duck, the lamb, the soup, everything so pretty much loyal to the original store in Beijing. The service is exceptional, always friendly and courteous. The cleaning lady with a squeegee saw my daughter and commented that she was very cute and was smiling all the time as we passed by and greeted her. The servers were very helpful and eager to solve problems and give exceptional experience! The decoration is not on par and doesn t represent the Qin dynasty retro and majestic interior design. However it s very understandable as the materials would cost millions of dollars to bring and install. So, it s a must to go visit the Beijing Qianmen store that was opened in year 1864.

Im from Beijing, the ground zero birth place of this world famous restaurant brand, and would love to give this place the support of 5 stars, but I honestly cant. Food taste good. Some dishes date back to empirical times China. But at the end of the day we are talking a dish of half an eggplant worth and some peanuts. It is very pricy and I understand you are paying for authenticity, history, and an art form. At $100 per one whole duck, you do not get a whole duck. They cut the traditional best skin and meat slices but do not give you any other part, no legs, rest of the duck, nothing. $100 for half a pound of duck meat. I can eat about $400 in one sitting of that stuff. The interior design is very average, cheap chairs. They forgot some of our dishes and tried to charge us. They also werent happy with a 15% tip and had the face to try guilting us by saying Are we not pleased with the service? No. We are not. It was stressful and overpriced. Will not return.

QJD did not disappoint and lives up to its reputation for high-quality dishes in a fine dining setting. I went with my family and in-laws for my wife and mother-in-law s birthday and we had an enjoyable experience. Food: We ordered the premium whole duck, kale salad, Maotai Marinated Duck Meat and Egg Yolk Roll, Sliced Pork Hock with Walnut, Sautéed Duck Hearts Marinated with Maotai, Fragrant Eggplants with Assorted Nuts, Simmered Tofu with Crab Roe, Sautéed Snow Pea Sprouts with King Oyster Mushroom, Green Bass Steamed in Clear Soup, Zhajiangmian, and Duckling Pastries. The house also gave us two complimentary bowls of Longevity Noodles. The duck was fresh and the skin was crispy without being soggy. The skin and meat were nicely separated, and the pancakes were also thin and delicate. Our favourite was the tofu, which was rich and flavourful. The surprise of the evening was the steamed bass - we didn t expect the fish to be so good at a duck restaurant. The fish was fresh and still tender. Service: Warm and professional service by the staff. There wasn t the usual brashness and dismissiveness found at most Chinese restaurants. Servers were helpful and quick in refilling tea, taking orders, putting food on the lazy Susan, and went the extra mile like portioning the tofu for us in individual bowls when they realized we wouldn t have enough space on the lazy Susan, or tossing the kale salad for us. Atmosphere: Beautiful decor and finished ceilings with wooden chairs, with a quiet noise level for a Chinese restaurant even with a full house. Didn t appreciate being seated at the entrance to the restaurant despite plenty of tables in the back that could accommodate us, and was also not asked whether we wanted a private room. There was also an issue at the beginning when we found out that a teacup had not been washed properly, but that was quickly rectified by a member of the team who apologized. These are minor points when contrasted with the enjoyable atmosphere in general. Value: We spent roughly $600 after tax and tip. Considering the other options available at that price point, QJD delivered an experience worth the price. It was our first time there, and the overwhelming anxiety was that we would be stuck eating art and going home hungry. While the portion sizes were not as large as $$ or $$$ Chinese restaurants, we left satisfied and full. Overall, I wholeheartedly recommend QJD for special occasions and will definitely be coming back. Parking: There are approximately 15 spots. It may be difficult to find parking but we were able to make an early reservation when the lot was still empty.

The ribs were so dry, the duck pastry were so small and flavourless, the fried oysters were super oily and fishy. When we already finished the food and paid but the desert weren t serve. The staff said don t leave yet, the desert will come soon so we know oh they have desert? . We wait for almost 20 minutes for super dry and tasteless desert Not really recommend!

Pleasant experience at QJD Peking Duck. Exquisite ambiance. Several reserved environments. Typical oriental decoration. Team with discreet and elegant attire. Ceremonious, courteous and quick service. The light, fresh and tasty meal met expectations. Special note on the rice: simply tasty (I missed eating good rice). Parking: At the time there were spaces available in front of the establishment.

The two of us spent 350 yuan, and we were not full yet. The portion was very small, and the taste was very ordinary, especially the roast duck was too ordinary, the food prices were a bit expensive, the environmental hygiene was okay, and the service was average...

I had my wedding reception at QJD on July 15, and I couldnt have asked for a more perfect venue. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warmth and professionalism. The host, Snow, was exceptional. She went above and beyond to ensure that every detail of our event was taken care of. Snows attention to detail and dedication to making our day special was truly remarkable. Manager Daniel and Xiao was also instrumental in making our wedding reception a success. Their expertise and leadership ensured that everything ran smoothly, from the food service to the decor. The food was outstanding, and our guests raved about the delicious menu options. The ambiance of the restaurant was perfect for our celebration. I highly recommend QJD for any special event. Their team, led by Snow and Daniel and Xiao, will make sure your occasion is unforgettable. Thank you for making our wedding day so memorable!

When it comes to the King (or Emperor), of the Peking/Aromatic Duck, make no mistake it s QJD. Stemming a rich history of over a century (1864), the Crown Jewel of Beijing first opened in Markham, circa 2017. Located at the base of the Courtyard Marriott - (look for the massive duck statue), you may want to consider booking a hotel room to relax after eating. Despite the premium price (the duck on its own equating to well over $100+), the portion sizes are massively generous. A surprising favourite, was the fried rice and perfectly chopped squares of duck, made into a pyramid of China s treasured cuisine. We opted for lettuce wraps to scoop up any of the duck that wasn t already wrapped up. The duck sauce (balanced and not overpowering), was the perfect compliment to the main course, along with the chopped spring onions and cucumber. There are often mixed reviews for QJD, with some claims of tastelessness etc, however, I would challenge these statements and ask if we ve been too acclimatised to western seasoning (often over loaded with sodium and MSG). Having spent extensive time living in Beijing, Peking duck is without a doubt, one of the country s most celebrated dishes, with each establishment claiming to have the oldest and truest recipe. One way QJD differentiates itself is its rich history and serving as centrepiece to introduce cultures to Chinese cuisine from all around the world. QJD s second location outside of China (Melbourne being the first), proudly represents the QJD brand, and there is something for everyone be that dumplings or the Emperor s duck.

A takeaway lunch box cost nearly 30 dollars. I ordered it through a takeout app. It was fully sealed and there were hairs on it when I opened it. Can you believe it? The taste is also much worse than before. disappointment

Came to Toronto from Vancouver for my birthday. I chose Quanjude. It has more Chinese flavor than Quanjude in Vancouver. It tastes the same as Beijing.

Sliced duck with flowers, both beautiful and delicious! The bean curd tastes sweet! Qianlong cuisine adds vinegar to the salad dressing and sprinkles with black sesame seeds, which is very refreshing! Crab meat pumpkin tofu has salted egg yolk flavor, good! It s just that some of the tableware fell apart, which affected the look!

There were 8 dishes for two people, and there were pies and yogurt that couldn t be placed on the table. The fried sausage and pineapple old meat were both thoroughly fried (the fried sausage was particularly praised), the pies were freshly baked, and the Dongpo pork was the best choice for northern Its a bit greasy for me, the roast duck is considered T1 level, and the fried rice is average and a bit salty. It s a bit expensive because you order a lot. Normally 60/70 is definitely enough for one person.

Yes, its that hard The last dessert was really good Vegetarian options: There must be Parking: Hard in multiple positions Kid-friendliness: Its quite suitable. The chef is serving roast duck in the corridor. Yes, it s not in front of your dining room table, it s a table away from you, and I won t tell you the silent film. Is it suitable for children to come and interact?

Food was decent but the manager (as she had a black blazer on) was terribly rude. Felt like she didn t want me to be there, maybe because I came alone, maybe because I m black? I don t know what her problem was but it was way too stressful. First, she came to my table, pointed at some menu items and shouted what you want, what you want, what you want skimming through the items available to me so fast I couldn t understand. Trauma! Then comes back later and I choose what I want, she says no no you can t get that, get this instead, a large salad made for 2 people at least, Barely speaking English to me I couldn t understand her(felt like she was doing it on purpose, when I got upset later on, all of sudden she could understand me). Then I specified I would like something like this but with Duck, I must have emphasized the work Duck like 10 times, she kept knodding her head like she understood. Brought the large salad with no duck. I ask her again, wheres the duck .. the trauma continued, we end up arguing for no reason. thank god a different server brought the duck eventually, she was very sweet, showed me how to eat the duck with the pancake, that part was lovely. But that manager left me feeling completely unwelcome. I tipped her 1$, hard to misunderstand that! The rest of the staff was great but that so called manager ruined it for the whole restaurant. I m staying in the hotel above the restaurant for 20 days, you lost your self a great customer, thanks.

I recently dined at Quanjude with my friends to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival. The service was initially impressive, with the waiter recommending a multi-person set meal that came with a complimentary Peking Duck voucher. The idea was simple: choose this meal and get a free Peking Duck on your next visit before November 14th.So, I returned to redeem my voucher before its expiry. This is where things turned perplexing. While I wasnt charged for the duck itself, taxes and an additional tip were added. The voucher, seemingly a straightforward freebie, was transformed into a discount coupon at checkout, unexpectedly increasing my bill by over $30. This practice was bewildering, especially for a restaurant that already includes a mandatory tip.I discussed this with the manager, and the response was vague - pay what you feel like.

The restaurants environment is very quiet and elegant, with attentive and prompt service (probably because its not very crowded during lunch time). The food is delicious, though the Peking duck is fairly standard and doesnt stand out. On the contrary, the cold dishes are noteworthy, especially the salad. The crispy taro strips paired with various vegetables are fresh, sweet, and tasty. The prices are on the higher side, corresponding to such pricing, theres an expectation for higher quality and experience with the food.

I had the pleasure to come back to this restaurant again and witnessed my other friend s wedding/ singing ceremony. The manger Daniel and his team is awesome! Visit this restaurant yesterday as my friends had their wedding reception here. The food was great and the manager was explaining their cuisines in details. I would highly recommend people who plan to have parties, baby showers or big events to come and visit this place. The food is definitely pricy but the service is very decent.

During the epidemic, I often ordered takeout. I also ate in the store after it opened. My favorite is Kung Pao Chicken. Today my son and I took a bite and felt that the spiciness was different from before. The spiciness was not from the chili pepper but from the use of that. I grew spicy oil and went to the sixth toilet in one night! It was very uncomfortable to eat!
