Colombian cuisine in a friendly atmosphere. The best known fresh empanadas in GTA
A warm and cozy atmosphere decorated with the feeling of Columbia. The owners were extremely friendly. We had the Special Platter and Beef Soup for entree and empanadas for appetizer. Everything was delicious. We were each offered a cup of Colombian coffee on the house, so good. A much try if you want to try an authentic taste of Columbia!!
The owners were amazing, and took time to explain the menu, and provide great suggestions. I felt like I was in Columbia and the food was tasty. I particularly loved the empanadas, and their home made spicy salsa. Can't wait to go again.
What a wonderful place! Cristina and Alex made everything with love, and you can notice that in their delicious food. For a moment, I felt like I was in Colombia again. The place is cozy and warm, and the dishes are fantastic, showcasing the real Colombian flavor. The Sancocho was great and reminded me of my mom’s cooking. I will definitely come back again. Thank you for everything! My husband and I had a really great time there. I totally recommend it!
A truly unique spot in Markham that stands out! Serving Colombian cuisine, this place serves as a community hot spot for regional South American food. The best recommendation I can give is any serving of meat along with toston - fried flattened plantain. The plantain is a great vehicle of the meat and remains crisp throughout the meal. The sweet plantains are also a great choice, along with the empanadas and the oat milk (Avena, I believe?). All the dishes are made with great love and attention - the whole place is run by a husband and wife duo who are very nice and sociable. If you're ever unfamiliar with the menu or how to eat the foods, they will be happy to chat with you. Always a great pleasure when I get to visit again!
Stumbled upon this tiny place in the plaza opposite Costco on Markham Rd. Entered it out of curiosity but was greeted and enveloped in the warm hospitality of the owner, Christina. She wasted no time in explaining to me in simple terms what the name of the restaurant meant and what the Colombian items on the menu were. Her husband looks after the kitchen and she more than looks after the customer. The food is super tasty and different. Well worth a try. We had the beef soup and the fried pork belly. These come with plantain done in different styles. Portions are large and prices are reasonable. Limited seating inside. Lots of parking. The place is traditionally decorated with items from the region in Colombia where the owners come from. I sure recommend this place for a different experience and will most certainly return to try some more items on the menu.
Love the decor. Family owned. Owner was helpful with explaining the menu and making suggestions. Nice for a change of palate. They will also accommodate your needs the best they can. I enjoyed the plantain, the avocado was fresh and I highly recommend their empanadas. Also, get a cup of Colombian coffee while you’re there.
This Colombian restaurant was amazingly well decorated. The owner of the restaurant serves us at above and beyond 5 star customer service level. They are super knowledgeable about the food they made and explained to you about each type of food delivered to the table, very patient and yet prompt in delivering the food to the table. The whole atmosphere takes you on a vacation mode. The music has added a super relaxed environment so you can really enjoy your time out for lunch or dinner. They are genuinely positively serving us all throughout the time of our stay. They even offered us a special Colombian coffee at no additional cost towards the end of our meal. They are the most wonderful genuine people who are more focused on customers rather than just about their business. They really cared about family values. There is absolutely nothing bad you could say about these wonderful people. We highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who love to be served at this highest level of respect and plus atmosphere of a true vacation feel restaurant. Hands down hats off to the owners of this restaurant. You are amazing what you do and your passion really showed in your restaurant experiences to us and the rest of the customers.
Why does it feel like I’m in Colombia for a vacation? Thank you Christine, Alexander, and Alejandro for the warm service. The food is so GREAT AND FRESH!!! Christine explained the whole menu for us and Alejandro offered a free coffee which is so kind. This is a family owned business and it’s really nice that the menu selection is small- you can tell they value their food quality. They deserve so much recognition.
Amazing family owed restaurant, Cristina went above and beyond recommending her favourite item will definitely be coming back!!
I have cravings for their Pulled beef toston and coffee
Had an amazing dinner here! It was my first time eating Colombian food and it did not disappoint. Empanadas were delish, and the salsa that comes with is unreal, I bought a jar after dinner. Toston was super yummy and so was the fried chicken. Will be back!
Wow the pulled beef toston was absolutely delicious! Definitely worth it and the coffee was to die for 10/10
Got in, got all the food I needed and out in no time, with: Buñuelo, Almohabanas, Pop, and empanadas!!
Amazing authentic Colombian food. The pulled beef was the highlight of the menu and the empanadas were soft and delicious.
Very welcoming. We traveled to Colombia!!!!thank you
The food was old. Chicken very salty, then it was replaced by an old one. No worth it
They have the most amazing food, the staff is warm & welcoming and you won t find coffee like theirs anywhere!
Absolutely fantastic experience at The Toston! From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming, making me feel right at home. The customer service was exceptional the staff went above and beyond to ensure every detail was perfect, and they were happy to answer questions about the dishes. The flavors were vibrant and authentic, capturing the true essence of Colombian cuisine. The food was not only delicious but beautifully presented. I highly recommend this spot to anyone looking to enjoy a memorable meal with outstanding service. Will definitely be coming back!
the owner is very nice, introduce the menu, food was delicious, I love this restaurant!
We hadnt gone for a long time, yesterday we returned and we were very satisfied with everything in general, the delicious food and not to mention the service, Alex and Cristina loved it, as they always make us feel at home . I recommend the fritters 10/10.
The Toston is a vibrant gem of Colombian cuisine, serving up authentic and flavorful dishes that transport your taste buds straight to the heart of Colombia.
This place is truly a gem! The food is absolutely delicious, and the welcoming owners make you feel right at home. The generous portions only add to the experience! We can t wait to return!
Best Colombian restaurant in Toronto, every bite is like being back home its worth everything!
From the day they opened it to date the quality has been excellent. The food has a unique flavor!!!! The attention is unmatched. I will surely continue enjoying your meals!
6 years of going to this restaurant and quality of food is always the best. I recommend all my friends to try everything on the menu it s all worth it Food
The food was good, but the beef was a little on the dry side. I still enjoyed it. I also ordered their coffee and it was really good. A little bit on the pricier side but the amount of food and the service make up for it.
I might not be Columbian, but this place is pretty good. The lady was pretty nice for explaining and recommending dish to eat for someone thats not accustomed to their dish. The place is small for dine in so if you go during a busy time, you will have to wait. I completely forgot my order during the dine in but the food was really good. Overall a great place to eat.
Cute little restaurant tucked away in a busy plaza with free parking. I tried the toston with pulled beef, which came with a small side salad. It was delicious, will definitely come back to try other things from the menu!
Great place. great food.
It s was pleasure to be here, the food and hospitality amazing.
I go there every time Im in need of a taste of authentic Colombian food.
Great place to satisfy your deep fried cravings on a more unique cuisine. Friendly staff and good food!
The woman at the front counter was very helpful explaining the menu items to me. I got the toston with pulled chicken. It was very good, with a sizeable portion of chicken. The toston was a bit hard for my liking. Not sure if its supposed to be that hard, but it makes it harder to bite. I ordered a chicken empanada as well, it was fine nothing special.
The lady who owns the restaurant was also our server. She was super kind and gave us an explanation of the menu and what tostones are. I ordered the pulled beef toston and it was absolutely delicious. Would definitely suggest adding the spicy salsa thats given on the side. Would definitely recommend this restaurant if you have the chance!
The best Colombian food I ever ate, I loved it. The people are friendly and glad to explain the whole menu to us. The restaurant itself also has a very relaxing atmosphere. The food comes in big amounts and worths the price. Definitely a place I will come back to.
Delicious food and amazing service! We learned a lot about Colombian food and were well taken care of by the owners.
Im a regular customer, the taste of the food is really good, they have the latin-sason that I needed. The place is totally original with a good atmosphere. Saludos a mi tocayo y su Linda familia.
Authentic food, exactly the same as the ones I had in Bogota and Medellin!
food was good and the lady working was nice enough to ask us if it is our first time here. she explained the menu thoroughly and taught us how to eat our specific dish. we got the bandeja paisa and the combo 2 with pulled beef. the empanada was also really good! it was pretty filling and flavourful. the washroom also had some funny posters.
Excellent service, super friendly and above all delicious food. Exquisite truth is that it is worth it.
Great authentic Colombian place, the food is delicious and not as expensive as you think.
Great food we had the big sampler plate and empanadas, put the salsa on the meat of the sampler, its perfect. The pork belly was perfect Food
The taste of the perfect food, the quality ingredients, the service is fast and the food is hot
It has not been the best experience, regarding the food I can say that it is good, it tastes good and has good seasoning. However, the problem was the attention, a very late lady (whom I dont blame, shes no longer up to those jogs) and a man who is a bad person. They could definitely improve many things in the service to offer a better experience.
Excellent service and perfect food is like feeling at home
The owner of the place was very rude to my gf , and give us very dirty looks all the time . The place it s small and dirty. I don t recommend it at all .
Ya the food was good! The owner/server was very friendly and explained the menu to us which was helpful as someone unfamiliar to Colombian cuisine. I would come again if I was in the area. Seating is fairly minimal so just a heads up if you come with a larger group.
The Toston is a great Colombian restaurant with a super enthusiastic owner who loves sharing their food and culture. They are very friendly and make you feel welcome. The toston is a must-try crispy and delicious, and unlike anything I ve had before. If you re looking for a unique and friendly dining experience, The Toston is definitely worth a visit.
I recently visited The Toston and had a great experience. The host was very welcoming and took the time to explain the menu and various options in detail, which I really appreciated. The service throughout the meal was attentive and friendly, making the overall dining experience enjoyable. The ambiance of the restaurant added to the pleasant atmosphere, making it a place I d definitely recommend to others looking for a relaxed and well-serviced dining experience.
So good! Cristina is LOVELY. The food is fresh and nicely seasoned. Great
The chicken Shawarma was not cooked properly & not enough Chicken and vegetables and the money they charge is way much for what they give.. being their weekly customer over few years for their Pizza had never complained but this Shawarma is Su.... they should get rid of from the menu, never recommend for their Shawarma
It s a tiny place. The food is alright. Although Colombian food is simple and not that complicated. The prices for what you get are outraged.
Only place near me that I can get empanadas
Food and service was great.
The owner is very friendly and welcoming. She explained the ingredients of every dish in and the proper way of eating them. The place is very small, fitting about 3 tables but the decor is very nice. It was a very nice experience overall.
Lovely food
Sooooo yummy, nostalgic, and homey atmosphere
Hands down the best Colombian restaurant in T.O
Delicious!
Awesome food. Wanted to try a new cuisine and walked into this restaurant wanting to try Colombian food. The owner was very kind and explained to us the history and menu items. We ordered what she recommended and did not disappoint. Food was amazing and authentic. Glad we chose Toston for lunch! Highly recommend to anyone wanting to try a new cuisine.
Food are good just not my cup of tea Nice service btw! Food
Just plain BAD. Worst Colombian restaurant and restaurant in general that I have been to. The food and customer service were both terrible. Worst experience ever. They definitely have fake reviews
Great friendly family run restaurant . Their beef soup was delicious n their coffee was fantastic. Highly recommend to support small business in Markham ..
Best coffee I ve ever had
Not so good. We ordered milanesa, pescado frito and arepa con queso. The arepa was so dry, making it not so chewable. The fried fish was good. (Honestly, how can you mess up fried fish.) The breaded pork was also super dry. It was so overcooked that the inner meat had no moist.
Hi hi I wanna say that the food was amazing but it was the service and hospitality that blew my mind. It really felt like a welcoming restaurant, as the owners are the front and back of the restaurant. We got the fish meal with a side of the pork and egg, with a couple of empanadas and we were filled to the brim. By far the best Columbian restaurant in Markham. Would come again!
If you re craving some authentic Colombian food in Canada, you ve got to check out The Toston. This place is super cozy and makes you feel right at home as soon as you walk in. The food here is amazing every dish is packed with flavor and perfectly seasoned. Whether you try their arepas, bandeja paisa, or their famous tostones, you won t be disappointed. The best part? The family that runs The Toston. They are incredibly friendly, welcoming, and make you feel like part of their family. Their warmth and love for what they do really shine through. We had a fantastic time at The Toston and can t wait to go back. If you re in the area, don t miss out on this gem! Cristina nuevamente muchas gracias por tan excelente experiencia y Atencion!! Bendiciones.
This was my first time eating at a Columbian restaurant. The lady matron kindly explained the food on the menu and the recommendations had. We had the pulled chicken arepa and pulled-beef toston. We also tried the beef empanadas. The food was wonderful, and the staff were great! Am surprise and delighted with the experience!
Feels like a homecoming! Aside from the fact that our food resembles closely to what Toston is serving, what we are grateful for is the genuine warmth that Cristina and Alex have. I am glad that we came here on our off day, their service is such a soothing balm to hassle of daily grind, feels like you come home to your family after such a tough time. Food is prepared well, fresh, simple and tasty, without being pretentious and hyped up. You can tell the owners just truly love what they do and is passionate to what they stand for in life that transcends in the food they serve. By all means, it is our first time meeting these people, never knew them, nor was I paid to write this review. I just simply want people to know that authentic kind people still do exist in this really tough world. They are very forthcoming that their place is rather small, but I really wish that over the years they will be able to expand with the support of locals or visitors alike. Cristina and Alex, bless your good hearts, from John and Ana.
It s just unbelievable that for buying 5 empanadas you get one small ají that is good for just 1 empanada, when asking for a second one they don t give it to you until you pay extra. Seemed like the almost $200 we had just spent in food there, doesn t matter at all. Service is bad.
As soon as you walk through the doors of The Toston you feel as tho you ve been transported to Colombia. From decor down to the og coffee machine on the counter I had a good feeling. The only reason I wouldn t give it a 5 star for atmosphere is because of dining space availability, there was about 3/4 tables max. But I m a sucker for a homey place and I was getting to go so it was fine. Out walks a super nice lady who took the time to explain the menu with me and to figure out what would be the best choice being the first time there. I ended up with a Toston because duh, rushed home, and it was still crunchy af as I d hoped. I got the pulled beef and there was a plentiful helping on that crispy plantain plate mixed with the veggies it was taaaaasty. I can t wait to try the rest of the menu at The Toston ! Vegetarian options: Heard the options for my wife but she had already choice something else in the area so didn t have the opportunity to try. Parking: Lots of spots
Top noch Colombian food in Toronto. The place, the music, the service, the quality of food.. it is just superb. A diferent experience in the city which allows you to embrace some colombian culture.
Delicious traditional food and a cozy place that feels like Colombia, 100% recommended if you wanna eat well and at a good price!
The restaurant leads to experiment and immerse yourself in Colombian culture and flavor. Highly recommended
Horrible experience at the totson- avoid at all costs! Went there for dinner last night with my family and the service was absolutely abysmal. We waited over an hour just to get seated, even though there were plenty of open tables. When we did finally get a table, it took another 30 minutes before anyone even came to take our order
The best Colombian food, super recommended
Love the food and the service Kid-friendliness: Yes Wheelchair accessibility: Outside tables are available to wheelchair
Simple, unique, delicious, and healthy food in a cozy and friendly environment. I will definitely go again
We came at 4 and they said it was closed. Google maps says at 6pm but there s people eating over there. Tried to call and never answered. Never coming back
My first visit to Toston and first time having Columbian food. What a delicious feast! Everything was fabulous including the coffee. Senora Cristina speaks about her food with love and passion. We will definitely be back to taste more of their menu!
We came all the way from downtown to the restaurant, on their site the schedule it s posted from noon to 6pm, we arrive at 4 and the restaurant is closed but the owner is inside and has the open sign turned on and just waves that there s no service, no sign or anything! At least inform your customers better if you re not going to be open!!!! Will never come back to try! At least the owner could ve come outside explain why they re closed! I just received an answer from this restaurant saying they ran out of supplies WHAT A LIE THEY CLOSED EARLY BECAUSE THEY WERE GOING TO CHURCH!!!! That was the answer we got when they answered the phone that day! Nothing wrong with going to church, but why reply to a review with a lie? That s just not okay
Amazing Colombian restaurant in Markham. Its a cozy spot with super friendly folks, quick service, and amazing food. Give it a try the next time youre in Markham!
Very comfy place. Food is terrific. Loved it.
A hidden gem! Food is delicious, the place is cozy and transports you to Colombia. The service is excellent. Will come back for sure!
Excellent food and service! Really like their chicken and beef soups. If you like authentic Colombian food you MUST come to this place. A very cozy restaurant and the owner couple is very friendly.
Owner was extremely lovely and taught us tons about colombia! Super welcoming and the food was very nice as well. Will definitely come back!
Local restaurant owned by a Colombian wife and husband. Extremely homey, friendly, kind, and cozy. Most of the interior decor was brought over from the owners hometown in Colombia herself! Everything tastes like authentic homemade Colombian food! So tasty, big portions, and great customer service. Place is a bit cramped/small so dont expect to have a lot of room. They had 4 tables total with a bar so I wouldnt come with a massive group either. Highly recommended!! Parking: Parking is free in the plaza and there is A LOT of it.
Small space good for party of 6 people max. The combos are big, enough for two people (or maybe just 1 really hungry person) Food
The best Colombian food in Toronto. Food that truly touches the soul.
Got the empanadas. Nice!
Good Colombian eats. Good service, Great food, 5/5 stars
Small family Colombian cafe. Greated with open arms and bountiful dishes of delicious pulled meats, and grilled meats. The Toston is crispy and delicious. The coffee is superb. A must go!
A pleasant surprise! Food was great and the owners were very friendly and patient. Great experience
The owners are the most grateful people. The service was amazing and the coffee was the best! It is like travelling to Columbia when you sit down and eat there. Hard working-Honest prices and unique. Vegetarian options: There is a vegetarian option, beans were amazing as seen in one of the photos.
I read about this place on Suresh Doss blog when I landed in the burbs a year ago, after 17 years downtown, it was one of the happiest finds I made. I m a (mostly) vegetarian. They have two outrageously delicious meals that cater to my kind (the veggie toston and the veggie arepa). The owners are also so lovely. I ve made a handful of visits and somehow they remember me each time. City people, if you re looking for an exciting food adventure, do it! Just make sure you get there early. They close at 7. You will thank yourself
Authentic Colombian food. The dishes were delicious and Cristina and Alex were the best. They provided an excellent customer service. It is a small place where you can feel the Colombian environment. I highly recommend the dishes that have shredded beef.
Hidden gem near Costco East on Markham Rd. Large portions of food, flavorful and delicious Colombian dishes cooked by the owner with care and served by his wife, Christina - so friendly to explain the menu to us. The homemade salsa was addictive!
The food its amazingly good but kind of expensive they should have more empanadas empanadas ready in their counter
Great food!
Wow, so glad I found this gem! I had the beef toston, and it was absolutely amazing. The owners are so friendly, too. Going to bring everyone I know here. Parking: Large parking lot with free parking
Nice vibe and authentic feel ti the restaurant. Good food and service. Happy with the variety in dishes and special dishes difficult to find. Was not served water and utensils were a little dirty.
Loved the food everything was hot and fresh. Also got the chicken and pulled beef empanadas which were freshly fried and tasted really delicious. The homemade salsa was really tasty as well. Don t leave here without having a cup of Colombian coffee.
Love this place. Authentic, great tasting Colombian food with friendly service.
The taste of the food including the coffee was really authentic. Specially the ajiaco ! Just tastes as if being in Colombia! As Colombian I fully recommend this place
Buenisimo!! Great food and service!! Food
It is the best Colombian restaurant, the food is very similar and the service is spectacular, my favorite dish was the ajiaco, I felt like I was in Bogotá
Perhaps it was just because it was delivery, but our experience did not meet the expectations based on all the great reviews here. The meat was tough, arepa was really dry. The flavor profile, however was good.
Loved the colombian food with my family!
The food is amazing and the service is unmatched
The staff was very friendly and helpful, however the food was a bit too bland for my liking. Worth trying as something new and different.
Great mom and pop shop, really good colomboan feels like home!!
We love the foods. Plus the restaurant s owner is very friendly!
Loved our experience here, the food is amazing and the owner is very very nice and friendly. We will definitely come back
Very delicious!
This is the best Colombian food in Markham and the food is like the Colombian food you get from home. Try the Bandeja Paisa and the sobrebarriga and you wont be disappointed just delicious.
Great spot for Colombian food. The toston (flattened and fried green plantain) dishes are worth getting. Small space, so not for big groups.
Incredible food, and the owners are amazing. They are so passionate about the culture and make sure to talk to everyone.
Excellent food and service
super good food! super friendly staff ! def feel like home
Parking: We were greeted by a friendly who kind explained to is about Columbian food, as that was our first time trying out . Good value for the price we are paying. Just that the table is too small for large plates. Will certainly come back for more. Parking is ample.
Excellent food and excellent service
I am Colombian have been in Toronto since 2009 and this is the best Colombian food I have had. Perfect tostones, food is fresh and authentic. The staff is very friendly. We will be back for sure. Parking: Bug parking lot Kid-friendliness: Encanto mural for pictures, high chairs
The empanas are very delicious
Great flavour of our native land I enjoy the food and the service
I visited The Toston with friends today for lunch. The owners were so sweet and welcoming. We felt like we were away on vacation, eating at a local restaurant. They explained the menu to us and made recommendations. I ordered the Pulled Beef Toston (combo #2!), and my friends ordered the Bandeja Paisa. We also tried the beef empanadas. Sooooo good! The portions are big, and the food is INCREDIBLE! If youre looking for delicious, flavourful, authentic food thats absolutely satisfying - please check this place out!
Good lunch and good coffee
Amazing atmosphere! Empanadas were perfect texture! Food
A cozy, casual, charming place to enjoy fresh, delicious and authentic Colombian meal. We had the beef toston and bandeja paisa, and thoroughly enjoyed every bite. The proud, family-owned restaurant made our first visit feel like we were regular patrons, offering us free Colombian coffee and taking the time to chat like old friends. Definitely an instant favorite and will be sure to come back again and again. Thank you!
Excellent food, feels like i am back in Columbia.
Delicious food and exceptional service! We had the beef toston, beef empanadas along with a tasty cappuccino. The owners are very friendly and truly one of a kind.
Amazing food, great atmosphere, would reccomend for any food lover in the GTA Parking: 50+ Wheelchair accessibility: Floor level door
This place is great! Ive been to Colombia a couple of times and this place cooked their food close to how they cooked it there. It helps their chef was originally from Cali, Colombia. Empanadas are fried just right and the salsa had a nice kick. Their oatmeal drink was delicious and not too sweet. Their rice and meat dish with chicharon, sausage and fried egg were delicious. Place is a bit small but, thats okay. They do close a bit earlier than what it shows on Google. Highly recommend!
Great customer service. Had a coffee(free) while I waited a short period for my food. Had the toston pulled beef which was wonderful! I highly recommend !
We didnt even have our food yet but had to rate . Service is top notch without a doubt. Love the introduction and story behind their store and the free coffee was next level. Same as Starbucks
We pass by this colombian restaurant and we decided to give it a try. The place is very charming got colombian decore too. The hostess was very friendly she explain to us about the menu since it was the first time were trying colombian food. I had the house salad with salsa sauce with Toston(flatten fried plantain) with grilled breast chicken. Loved it ! Was alot ! My husband ordered the Bandeja paisa the pork was too greasy for him the rest was good. And dont forget the drinks Postbon soda (apple flavor). Very welcoming place ! I will come back to try the Empanadas.
The food was tasty and I loved the presentation. The space is small, we went in a large group and it was not too comfortable but the service was great. They were warm and welcoming
The toston was large and tasted incredible! I m definitely going back soon to try other items on the menu, like the arepas and the bandeja paisa.
Delicious Excellent customer service, friendly, and very comfortable. You know as soon as you walk in the door by the decor and music the food is going to be authentic and it was!!! I will definately back. Thank you! Food : 5/5
Delicious food & great service. Definitely try the empanadas as an appetizer.
Excellent food and service
The Toston is a small Colombian restaurant with only four small tables. The coffee is definitely excellent, and anything related to plantains is worth trying. Sweet plantains are fried ripe plantains. Toston is a crispy fried green plantain base topped with meat or vegetables. We chose pulled beef as the topping. Bandeja paisa is a big mixed dish that is a must-try for first-timers. The best part is the crispy fried pork belly, along with the beef, plantains, and avocado. Their beef is recommended, but it tends to be a bit overcooked, so it can be a little dry. I didnt particularly enjoy the hard small round arepa . Eating and listening to the sound of sizzling fried food in the kitchen was truly delightful.
Second time here, food is amazing, large portions. Wonderful owners. Highly recommend it. Always enjoy colombian dishes.
A unique appeal, great food and spectacular service. Colombian food, to me, is among the best in Latin America, and this place didnt disappoint! The fried fish was a favourite. Will definitely return with more of my friends.
Was my first time there and food was delicious, very small place, just like 3 tables but when we were there it was never full. The food was very tasty and with sazón , portions are good. I will definitely go again.
Original colombian food, nice music
Very friendly staff. The toston with meat was SO good as well as the plaintain. Next time will try the soups. Would definitely recommend.
When I first heard about this place, I was so excited to find a Colombian restaurant out here in Markham. Everything was delicious! The service was amazing too. Everyone was really friendly and took the time to explain the menu, tell us which dishes are most popular, and even how to eat the toston itself. We got the beef empanadas, pulled beef toston, veggie toston, and side salad. All of the food was fresh and flavourful. We ll definitely be back for more. Vegetarian options: The vegetarian toston was so flavourful and filling. It comes with beans, avocado, cheese, and peppers. Highly recommend even if you aren t a vegetarian.
Visited this Markham favourite, Colombian restaurant for lunch. The Toston was cute and cozy and the service was outstanding. The husband and wife team running the show were very friendly and checked in on us often. Then there was the food - full-flavoured, piping hot homestyle dishes of meat and toston (plantain fried flat and crisp), empanadas and hearty soup. Everything we tried was delicious and we look forward to returning to try other menu items.
Had an amazing lunch .The Sweet Plantain was caramelized perfection. The Toston with Pork? Crispy outside, flavorful inside. The Arepa Llanera was light yet crispy, and the Empanadas were bite-sized joys. Truly a hidden gem. Will be back!
Wow. Amazing experience. Cristina was a lovely host. Took extensive time to explain the whole menu, about Columbia and then gave special attention to make food to perfection. Tostons were fantastic. Highly recommended for food and hospitality. Vegetarian options: With beans
The best Colombian food in the GTA. All delicious dishes and excellent service
I like the beef soup.
Unexpected hidden gem in Markham.
Good flavor, recommended!
Friendly staff and great food. We will definitely visit again!
Its tiny place but clean & they have a couple of tables & chairs outside. The owners are very friendly & explained all the different foods & portions offered in their menu. We love the combos in the menu which mostly come with the crispy flat banana. The white flat corn breads with crispy pork belly so addictive. We went there for a birthday lunch & we enjoyed every dishes recommended.
Came with a large group. Our server was incredibly nice, so excited to show us Colombian culture. Food was so great, Ive never had Columbian food before, but Ill definitely be trying more soon!
Absolutely delicious
Great Columbian Coffee Sweet plantain ..with a little cheese .. and amazing decor.....lovely place to come and chill.. Lovely owners. Update : Toston with pulled beef , ahmmmazing fresh salsa...( I have never had this fresh a salsa ) and some Colombian cola ...lovely.
Our first time having Colombian food. The owners were extremely friendly and walked us through all the menu options and how to eat everything properly. Tostones (fried plaintain) were topped with various options of meat or vegetable, and served with salsa and a side of salad. The tostones were flavourful and the star of the dish, the pulled beef was tasty but couldve been more flavourful. The beef empanadas were also great. Overall I would recommend for the outstanding hospitality and authentic experience of Colombian cuisine.
Awesome hidden gem for authentic Colombian. The shredded beef toston and the Bandeja Paisa are incredible, with authentic flavours. They did not have them available when we went, but I really want to try the cassava fries and arepa de huevo. Next time!
Good latin american(Colombia) food in Markham, tried bandeja paisa and toston and it was really flavor, would recommend it to someone else
I recently had the pleasure of dining at this Colombian gem, and I must say it was an extraordinary culinary experience that transported me straight to the heart of Colombia. From the moment I stepped through the door, I was greeted with warm hospitality and a vibrant atmosphere that set the tone for an unforgettable brunch. The menu was a delightful journey through Colombias diverse culinary traditions. We started with the empanadas, and they were a crispy, flavor-packed appetizer that left us craving for more. The Toston with pulled chicken was a feast for the senses, with perfectly cooked beans, rice and tender steak. The staffs knowledge and passion for Colombian cuisine were evident throughout the meal. They were more than willing to explain the dishes, share stories about their origins, and ensure that every guest had a memorable dining experience. The restaurants ambiance was another highlight. The authentic decor, Colombian music playing softly in the background, and the aroma of freshly cooked food made me feel like I was in a charming Colombian town square. Dietary restrictions: Vegan options plenty
This place was amazing! Service was excellent, and the food was extremely delicious!
Great Colombian food. Loved their Bandeja Paisa
First time eating Columbian Cuisine and brought along my Columbian friend since hes been missing home cooking for 2 years. We both had great eats and all the food hit the spot, especially for my friend who said it tasted just like home. We both came from distances away from The Toston (1-2hrs away) but made the trek and it was damn worth it. On top of the great food, the owners were super friendly and nice and the atmosphere was great. I havent been this full in a long time and we got some take out to extend the experience at home. We will be back for more!
The Toston was a great introduction to Columbian food and culture! Service was attentive and impeccable, with the hostess kindly explaining the different menu options and their intricacies. The toston w/ pulled beef was a well-portioned meal with a great variety of texture and rich flavors. The Bandeja Paisa was a great variety of different items to try out- the pork belly, flank steak and plantains were great. We were offered a small cup of Columbian coffee after the meal, which was well enjoyable. Would come back, for sure.
So cozy
Best tray so far!!!!
Saw the other reviews before we even knew this place existed and thought (a) whats a Colombian restaurant doing here, and (b) that looks really good. Tonight we tried it for the first time. We just ordered a pulled beef toston, send let me tell you, it was delicious. If you like authentic Mexican food, you will like this also. Its got a similar spectrum of flavors. The amount of meat thats piled on the crunchy green plantain fritter is very generous. You get your moneys worth. The staff are warm and charming and the setting has a unique atmosphere that highlights cultural elements of their hometown. Its not exactly a posh place, but its clean and quaint. Not a lot of seating, so takeout might be your only option if others have beat you to the tables. We will definitely be back again for more pulled beef toston plus some of the other menu items, like the Bandeja Paisa that the couple sitting next to us ordered; it looked really nice. Highly recommended. Try it if you like mildly spicy, complex flavors similar to real Mexican. I hope to see them expand to a bigger location one day... but not too far away, please!
Great authentic Colombian food.
I recommend this restaurant. Very friendly people. I have been to Colombia and I loved their food. Here at Toston I had their famous dish ( sancocha de Red) and it was delicious. Don t forget to ask for their Colombian coffee because it is delicious. Food : 5/5 |
Got coffee and latte, taste is good and fresh. Very small place but good service.
Very friendly owners. Quaint atmosphere. Feels like youre in Colombia. This food is made with love. Must try it. Coming back with friends and family. Vegetarian options: Delicious Vegetarian toston.
Unique little Colombian restaurant. Very delicious and unique dining experience. Good for a first date Food
A homey, authentic Colombian cuisine experience. My fiancé and I visited the Toston for lunch and were blown away. The ambience was very Colombian. We loved the homey, cultural vibes of the restaurant. The service was top-quality, and we felt at home as the co-owner thoroughly explained the menu to us and helped us accomodate on the favourites and the traditional way to eat the food. Im not super experienced with Colombian food, but the food was an amazing experience that made me reminisce on a high-level, home-cooked meal. We had combo 2 (beef on fried plantain) and the bandeja paisa (paisa platter) and they were both filling and tasted great. We will definitely be coming back to the Toston and definitely recommend people give this amazing option a go!
Incredible fresh food. Delicious, good portion sizes. Great staff. Will be back
Its my first taste of Colombian cuisine and I enjoyed it! My friend ordered the beef soup and I had the pork belly. The beef soup was flavorful of the beef and the portion was generous. Alot of beef meat in there. The pork belly is a combination of crispiness and juiciness. The beef patties was delicious. It comes with a sauce which is a must pairing. The sauce goes well with the pork belly too. The ambience setup is like a street style and feel more local (Colombian) Nothing fancy! The owner is super nice and welcoming. Will definitely be back to try other dishes.
The owner of the restaurant is very friendly, it was our 1st time coming to this restaurant, its very cozy and small, love the lady who served us, she even gave us some Colombian coffee for free, very good coffee. As per her suggestion, we ordered two dishes 1. Toston with Pulled Pork 2. Bandeja Paisa We loved the Toston with Pulled Pork but not so much the Bandeja Paisa. The Bandeja Paisa was very dry. We love our meats, tender and soft, melt in the mouth, not like dry and chewable, I would not recommend the Bandeja Paisa if you dont like overcooked meat. I definitely recommend the Toston with pulled meat (beef, chicken, or pork) We came to this place in the hopes of trying their soups, but unfortunately, their soups were not ready because we arrived too early, at 12 pm, when they just opened, their soups were not ready until 1 pm. I will definitely come back and try their other dishes and soups. I came with my husband during a weekday back in September 2023.
Hey there fellow Filipinos out there in the east, if you want some Colombian foods, this is the good spot, almost similar for our foods. People here are nice and kind entertaining.. went here with my Colombian friend.
Excellent food.
