10 Apple Creek Blvd Unit B3, Markham, ON L3R 5Z1, Canada
A reminisce traditional Hong Kong cuisine flavors since 1990. Dickens restaurant, serving all kinds of Hong Kong style dishes, special set menus, meat lovers should not miss the our signature specialty, "German Pork Hock". We provide a variety of savory dishes, such as our Hong Kong style casserole dishes, pasta, rice and curry. Series of classic flavored snacks, appetizers, soups, light lunch, lunch special, afternoon tea, dinner set, kids menu, exquisite desserts and catering services. A perfect choice for gathering at Dickens restaurant!
HK style cafe meals in Markham. service with sufficient staff and good food standards. Taste was decent. Meals come with soup of the day, and drink of your choice.very good 👍 Decor and cleanliness were top notch.
Food: overall tasteless. Not much seasoning on meat (or no seasoning at all) relying on sauce. Even the chicken oil rice taste like white rice in yellow. Curry is so so. Nothing special Service: No complaints. Clean up dishes away when you are done (of course they will ask you first). Dishes are delivered by robot and staff is doing the last mile to put onto your table. Atmosphere: the restaurant has high ceiling and room between tables. You don’t feel crowded at all. Lot of parking in the plaza. But also lot of restaurants as well. So it is quite busy during lunch hours
The food quality and service is good however I do find it a bit pricey. The soup, the fish fillet and the shrimps are good.
Traditional upscale Hong Kong style food. U get soup, salad, tea along with your set dinner. Most of the dinner starts at 27 dollars and up. The food was ok and we sat for the whole night to chat and they had no issue.
Great restaurant for an upscale HK cafe at reasonable price. They have been in business for a very long time and have done it right offering a consistent menu and taste. Set lunch menu is served with soup, bread and coffee/tea with a generous portion. You can also do take out for parties as they have a catering menu. The fried chicken wings and baked dishes are excellent choices.
We love to come here for brunch because it's so close to one of the Rock Climbing gyms we go to. It's a huge restaurant with lots of seats, so you usually don't have to worry about a wait. Their breakfast options are pretty good as they come with a free coffee or tea. I prefer coming for lunch or dinner though because there are more options. Their bread soup is my favourite thing to order when it's available (I think their soup specials change daily). Their steaks are also good price.
Haven't been to Dickens in years - way over a decade since my last visit at either the Scarborough or Richmond Hill location. I just found out about the Apple Creek location not too long ago and finally got to visit last weekend. I was mind blown with how much bigger this location is and the beautiful décor. My kids were excited about their kids menu and completely devoured the Spaghetti Bolognese and Meat sauce Linguine that they chose. I was really impressed with their Black pepper chicken steak - the portion of the chicken steak was huge and juicy... not hard and dry like other restaurants. Their black pepper sauce was flavorful and tasted just the way I like it. Will definitely be coming back with friends and family! Edit: Went back to try their Tomahawk steak... SO GOOD!
Used to go to the Dickens in Richmond Hill when I was much younger, and was curious about how this new location would be. Came with a big group (family birthday), and the staff here were all very friendly and attentive with our group. Service was fantastic and we even got a private room. Value wise it felt pretty good - I ordered a Hainanese chicken lunch deal which was $15.99 (comes with soup and a drink as well), which is pretty average these days. My partner got the ox tongue. The only thing I would say is that the food could use a little more seasoning (mainly salt), which I say hesitantly because usually restaurants use more salt than they need to. But our dishes were a little bit on the blander side. I think with a bit of fine tuning on the seasoning this place would be a can't miss.
Delicious good, good tea and coffee
Food are very good and good service
HK style restaurants with Western Dish.
food is fresh and delicious. We have been there so many times and never been disappointed. Service is fantastic and friendly ..we always had a great time at Dickens Food
Great food! Excellent service! Kid-friendliness: My daughter loves the food! Food : 5/5 |
The service was good and the restaurant is clean, however the taste of the food leaves much to be desired especially at the price of the menu items. The bread they serve is a bit too on the sweet side and their tea was not very strong. The lobster bisque also did not taste fresh.
Wheelchair accessibility: Has ramp and level entrance. Roomy seating with wide walk ways. Food
Food was subpar. I cook better than Dickens.
Love the soup!!
Food was terrible & overpriced. Will not return
Tasteless iced lemon tea, not sure what types of tea they used or blended Baked pork chops rice way too much sauce Black pepper chicken not good Overall disappointed!! Food : 1/5 |
Very disappointed with the quantity and quality of food as we thought that we could dine in this restaurant regularly. This was the second time we tried out and ordered take out after Covid. We spent $50ish on afternoon tea meals this time. The baked fish pieces were very tiny and covered by a big piece of fried dough. A few pieces have no fish at all. I can get a better afternoon tea set from somewhere else for $15. In addition, they gave us a small container of curry sauce for the curry pork cutlet rice dish which was at least 4 times less than what we got last time. The sauce was only barely enough to cover the pork cutlet so nothing left for the rice. This was our first time to eat curry dish with plain white rice ..so sad:(
Food is good and very competitive price
I came with a large group, about 20 people. All the food came out together, which I really liked. Everyone enjoyed their meals. The server was quick and efficient. It was my first time there, but Ill definitely be back. Kid-friendliness: Nice variety of options for kids
Average food and service.
Ive never been to this place, but if it caters to fur babies, as Ive read, it gets 5 stars. I only wish I wasnt a felon and could go into Canada. Id def go there..
Food was so-so.. absolutely not worth the price. Service was ok, depends on who was serving us. Old lady was great, the young seems like she was ready to sleep. There were some places very dirty, i had to constantly swap small fruit flies.. tells how clean the kitchen. Plus, the robot delivering the dishes was extremely dirty.. seems like they never cleaned it.
It is a bit pricey.
The environment is very noisy, and the food isn t very good.
Afternoon tea is better than lunch. Lunch is actually allowed 1.5 hours.
Good ambiance, spacious , robot cart delivering , taste not bad, HK milk tea is ok. Not so good in terms of value of food is a bit over price with small portion Eg the garlic bread was as thin cut as much as possible .
Above average
A good space. Food was mediocre. Wasnt a fan of the flavors. However, staff is pleasent and attentive.
Food was a little on the expensive side. Portion of the food was ok. Don t expect too much. Choices of food on the menu it s very limited.
Great place for a family get together. I went there with my cousins and their family. There were 6 of us. The restaurant was spacious and very new. It was relocated to the current location recently. We loved the food and variety. Good size plates and reasonably priced.
Food isnt had, service is great.m but shrinkflation is very real in this place. The portions got a lot smaller.. Id say the portions for the pasta got cut in almost half!
The place looks better where it use to be. Food was great as usual.
The cook must be mad today. Someone forgot to give him a hug this morning. The food was very salty.
Very disappointed with BASA being used to replace or disguise as SOLE !!! I also developed stomach pain after the meal. Would never visit this restaurant again.
They ask you to leave whenever there are people waiting for getting a table. Rude. steak not tasty for lunch. unless they set a time limit, they should not force customers to leave.
Same bad service and food wherever they move to. Be ready for disappointment - the waitress are very rude and bad attitude
Great resto
Taste good
I thought this was new but apparently it opened 2 yrs ago! I used to eat at Dickens (different location) all the time with friends but discovered this location only today. We had some classics, baked chicken over fried and tomato sauce, Russian Borsch soup and roughy with a mushroom clam sauce and fries. Their fries are delicious. I could not stop eating them. The baked chicken rice was also really good. Generous portion sizing. Tomato sauce that isnt too ketchupy or tinny. And the rice is actually fried rice too. Cheese is included and doesnt come at a extra charge and the chicken is nicely pan fried...I really like how its not deep fried. The mushroom clam sauce was decent and the soup was also good, just a tad on the sweet side. You also warm toasted dinner rolls with butter. Service was fast, super friendly and the space is very clean.
Oct 2021 update- restaurant is now located at 10 Apple Creek Blvd unit B3. It s much spacious than before which allows social distancing. They are offering 10% discount at the time being and i think their menu price is roughly same as before. Plenty of selections and quality is consistent. The only drawbacks are lack of of natural lighting and poor ventilation so I only gave a 4 stars
Price is a bit more compared to other places but for the service and atmosphere, it is worth it.
It s not fresh. I went to eat on New Year s Eve and went to the toilet 7 times in one night. Vomiting and diarrhea
Great places and good food.
An average Hong Kong style restaurant thats nice and quiet . Good place to eat and chat with friends.
Always busy, make reservations before going. Many different varieties of food that you can choose from their menu, from light tea set to full combo sets.
Food is your typical HK cafe. However the prices are expensive for what you get. Food was fine but not for the price tag
Spacious place, food was quick and flavourful, however, would have liked a bit more meat for the price.
Good for gathering
If you want to have a nice meal in a cozy ambience this is the place to be.
Ordered beef tongue spaghetti, also came with escargot as appetizer and bun and soup. Everything was up to expectation.
Hong Kong-style dining room: There are many styles. The portion size is more than enough. The price is reasonable. Excellent material collection. Worth recommending.
The new location is much better than their old one at Fairlane mall. Food seems to have improved as well, and their chicken curry is my new standard for HK cafe curries.
This restaurant is a good fusion, and there are combos for two/four people. The portion is definitely generous, but the overall flavour is slightly lacking. The lobster bisque is delicious though. There are tons of seating, booths in particular. Everything was good, including the service.
Good HK style food. The food delivering robot is a cool touch.
Good food and atmosphere
It s a Hong Kong style cafe but they serve western meals for dinner (steak, lamb racks, tomahawk, seafood, etc). Reasonable prices but skip their crème brulée and tiramisu desserts. My lamb was good quality and cooked well. The bread was delicious, lobster bisque to skip. They followed the medium rare instructions which were good
I havent been to Dickens in years but its nice to see they are still around. This location is an upgrade from their last place - renovated nicely. The food is as great as before but - be prepared to pay higher prices.
Ordered chicken casserole with tomato sauce and cheese. For the price, I was hoping for a better cut of chicken, but it was pretty fatty with lots of skin. The salad was pretty fresh at least. There is a little machine that brings the food out from the kitchen and the waiter serves it which is neat.
Food is good
Went here tonight for dinner, food was delicious! We got the two dinner combo. The lobster bisque was delicious and the bread was toasted and warm. The salmon salad was very good, a nice mustard dressing. For the main I got the steak, it was perfectly medium rare and was very tasty. My husband got the lamb which was also delicious. We will be back!
What a cute food delivery robot
Ive been going to Dickens since I was really young, even after they moved a few times. However, I was pretty disappointed to see how they handled the service today. They said they were closing at 3 and onwards and we made it inside with more than 35 mins to spare. We were in a rush too, so we knew we wouldnt be sitting for too long anyways. The waitress who took our order down, got the quantities wrong. We ordered two dishes, one hainanese chicken rice and one fish cutlet for three people to share. She told us that there is no more of the chicken rice that comes with the hainanese chicken, and asked if they could substitute it with white rice. We said OK, without making any difficulties. She asked us what soup we want, we said the vegetable one. And she said actually, you dont have a choice, cream only. We said OK, without making any difficulties. The waitress then gave us two soups (we assumed it was for the two meals we ordered). We finished them but it was subpar and mind you, we only ordered the cream soup because we didnt have a choice, we didnt want it in the first place. Then our mains came. To our surprise, three dishes came instead of two. Turns out the waitress got the wrong order and wrote down two hainanese chicken rice meals instead of one. Another server took back one of the extra chicken rice meals after we clarified that we didnt order it. The waitress who took our order returns and told us that she misheard us. She then comes back and proceeds to tell us that only the Hainanese chicken rice that we ordered comes with soup, and since we drank two soups, we have to pay for the extra one they mistakenly gave us. We were all shocked, but didnt want to make a big deal out of it so we just said OK again. It was around $2 for the soup, which we could obviously afford. But its the principle behind this experience that is so wrong. If the waitress misheard us and took the wrong order, we shouldnt have to pay for the mistake. Additionally, we couldve done without two soups because we didnt want the cream soup anyways, but because of her mistake, we had to pay for soup that we didnt even want in the first place. The cherry on top was when customers came in after 3 and they told those customers theyre closing from 4 and onwards. I thought they were closing at 3? Anyways, its the first time I had such a bad experience here but I think its worth a mention to anyone considering coming here! Skip the soup and make sure the waitress doesnt mishear you or else will be paying for her mistakes
Both food and services are great! Very nice environment.
Great customer service especially JoJo.. super friendly. Lunch combo comes with soup and a drink. Large portions! Will come again.
Used to be tasty....
The food was fulfilling. Recommend the pork knuckle and duck breast pasta. Atmosphere was decent.
Came to this place for our company gathering. Seems to be the best place! The chicken wings are tender and juicy.
A good place to enjoy food and environment, even you will always hear a loud echo noise chatting echo and you might experience with some kids are running around. However, you will definitely appreciate with enough space and aisle distance between table. Price is reasonable ranging from CAD23 to CAD60 (exclude tax and tips) as compared to recent food inflation rate, and i am guarantee you might pack home with leftover food... If you are food carnivorous monster, with all kind of Dinner Specials that you can choose. Definitely, you can fulfill your stomach, Starting with soup, some with garden salad or baked escargot, then the main dish(es). Vegetarian options: However, if you are vegetarian eaters, this is not your place to visit
Great place to have breakfasts ! Quiet and not crowded, spacious seating, great selection of breakfast menu reasonably priced, waitresses prompt quiet service. Can have a leisure breakfast together with friends and chat over coffee, not too crowded pushing you to finish quickly. They could be much more busy and crowded at lunch and dinner times though.
Food was so so but the environment and decor is nice. Friendly server and robot service. Food timing was way off. I finished my dish then my friends dish arrived.
Mediocre Hong Kong style restaurant.
Pricey but food was good
Food was good but slow service
Very good HK Style Cafe, with a good amount of choices and great tastes, food delivered by a robot
The childrens meal is really good, the fried pork chop is delicious, the fresh fruit and potato salad is fresh enough, not too sweet, great!
Very friendly staff. My family loves to go here.
This place is consistent, lunch is always busy! The menu prices just went up reasonably, with most items up $1-2. Always good and friendly service! Kids menu is great as well! Will be back again!
First of all, the jokes write themselves if you get a cider. Google Dickens cider ad. This has no bearing on the review, just a side note. It is a standard HK cafe experience. The baked foods are quite large and the lunch specials are great since they come with soup, garlic bread and a drink. We got Portuguese chicken to share. The chicken steak and pork chops are also huge if you get one. I have an average appetite and had alot of leftovers.
Food taste good , place clean, service is ok
Service is great. Just be aware their dinner menu pricing. You can get something lot better and reasonable elsewhere.
Food quality not exactly top notch but service is great and atmosphere is good.
Food is mediocre, service is mediocre, price is top notch.
I was here before, the pork knuckles were very good. This time, I want to try again, but too bad, disappointed. The Baked Coconut Chicken in Portuguese Style they said is fried rice, but was sooo disappointed, I cant feel its a fried rice. Too much water, so soggy. Looks bad.
Food was just okay and a bit pricey but the service was pretty good. I would recommend the beef tongue and pork knuckle. Restaurant is clean and atmosphere is nice.
very good
Chicken rice 0 points. Cold chicken served, no taste. Compared to . Even I asked twice for ginger paste. Still no taste. Rice no taste. The mushroom no taste like mud. $16.99 with hst and tips. No quality at all. Bread served in cold soggy one, can t eat. I ate them all cause I hate wasting food. But I felt bad of my stomach and vomited twice after four days. This is my first today. Why? When you go thru the menu everything is overpriced. Dinner time baked pork chop rice with set $31.99. Oh my goodness.
The food is average but service is very good. Atmosphere is nice.
Price a bit high but food is not bad. They closed at 10pm and didnt rush us to pay the bill. Overall, the vibe is enjoyable.
Love the food and atmosphere, tables are not close together, a nice family restaurant ! Good service, staff were friendly. Definitely recommend.
Food is good and service is great. Recommended: - fruit salad - baked salmon - grilled ox tongue Kid-friendliness: Kids menu with several options
The dish fell short of my expectations. The ratio of ingredients appears to be off, particularly in the black pepper sauce and tomato sauce, as they appear too dark. Furthermore, the onion black pepper sauce turned out to be excessively salty, and both the onion and mushroom were sliced too thinly. As a result, I couldnt appreciate the texture of these ingredients. Perhaps the chef intended to enhance the flavor of the sauce by slicing them thin, but it didnt work well for my taste.
Nice and clean restaurant, Good place for gathering.
Food was mediocre but very expensive. The food also took a very long time to arrive. We sat down at 5:15 and our entrees arrived 45 minutes later. Unfortunately, even with the expensive items, we were disappointed. The server only spoke Cantonese and our orders weren t fulfilled accurately. The escargot had sandy bits in it. The tomahawk steak ($50) was chewy. The rice was cold and hard. If you want a cold lemon tea it is $1.50. If you want a hot lemon tea it is $1.75. All drinks are extra. If you want a slice of lemon it is also extra. We had high expectations for this place but there are better and more cost efficient HK style diners.
Good food excellent service.
We came here on Saturday for an early Fathers Day dinner after an escape room experience. The restaurant seated us promptly in a sectioned off corner. It was private enough that we can chat and not be disturbed or disturbing other people nearby. When we got around to ordering our food, there were things that we ordered that never came at all or they never brought it to us until we asked for it again. When the food was served 50 minutes later, (we got seated at 5:15, food didnt arrive until 6:10pm,) some were hot on the outside and still cold on the inside. (It was very obvious that it was warmed in the microwave.) The food wasnt all served at the same time. One was served first from a group of 8 people, the next dish didnt come until 6 minutes later, and then a few came out few minutes apart. We werent able to all eat at the same time. The tomahawk steak was very disappointing. The dish was cold, completely covered in sauce that masks the taste of the steak, and undercooked, making the steak chewy and tough to cut. For a dish thats recommended, it was not satisfactory at all. When our tea was being refilled, it spilled all over the table. Overall, it was not a good experience, and the food was not adequate either. I am very disappointed in the service and food. The facility, though, was very nice, ample parking, and the washrooms were clean. It would have been a good atmosphere and a nice place to come and chat while eating. Parking: Has a handicap parking spot. Kid-friendliness: There is a kids menu.
Service is not that great. Waited an hour for spaghetti. They were able to provide my order in 15 mins, but it was the wrong order of sauce. They said they will fix it and waited for 45 more minutes. When they collected plates they dropped sauce and utensils on my family.
Afternoon tea with friends. Quiet and comfortable place to hang out with friends.
I tried to give this place a visit after a disappointing experience a year ago and this is one of the few HK cafes that actually open till 11 pm on Fridays and Saturdays since COVID but guess what? Sadly, even though they open till 11pm, its just a front. Dont even bother making a trip there because the employees just want to go home on time. They start getting ready to shut down by 930+pm. Last call is 9:45pm? even though they close at 11pm. In addition, they specifically stressed their menu will be very limited if you come after 9:45pm-10pm (which is still an hour+ from closing time). I dare any of you to try to visit Dickens on a late night. Guarantee you will get a bad service or a spit in your food. Maybe the owner doesnt want to pay overtime to the employees or the owner has no idea their employees are acting that way and spilling rice. An owner of a restaurant on Hwy 7/ Kennedy had to post a note on their front door stating to please report any incident of refusal for dine-in when the restaurant was still technically open for a reasonable time prior to closing. To the owners of this restaurant, if you are reading this and this is how you want to run things, then so be it. It is very hard to find staff so this can explain why this is tolerated at your establishment. Your restaurant, your rules. However, you might want to change your closing time to 10pm because late night diners are simply not welcome at your establishment so whats the point of even being opened till 11pm?
Food was average but its bright and clean looking.
Food is not as good as it used to be. This place has gone downhill over the years. Dickens has been around for a long time and though we dont frequent the place, I can say weve been here even in the 90s. So, its kind of sad.
Nice spacious place with friendly service. Food is fusion cuisine and tastes good. Price is decent.
Tried their lunch combo, it was subpar. It came with a drink, soup and toast. The chicken was not tender enough. Atmosphere was pretty good. They have the robot to serve dishes but they still serve in person.
A very beautiful family owned restaurant. It serves Chinese style Western foods. The taste of the food is fantastic. They also have this cute little robot that carries food. I recommend coming here to try their food. We should do our best to support family owned businesses instead of big corporations.
The service is ok, the food are terrible, it didnt suit us after tasting, the lobster soup was too strong and it didnt feel fresh. We didn t finish the meal. The pasta with white sauce only had a strong milky flavor without any other seasoning. The snails were very dry and tasteless. The price was high !!! it didn t achieve a certain level of value. It s better to go The KEG.
The space is big and clean, and I was glad that we were able to make reservations. The service was also decent. They have old-school style western Chinese HK-style cafe food where you get garlic bread and either cream soup or borscht and a drink alongside your entree, which is nice, but the price is also a little higher than the average cafe as a result. I appreciated the variety of options available. Bonus points for the kids menu, which has a decent variety and comes with a drink and ice cream. The food itself was a bit on the bland side; we ordered a few dishes ranging from Hainanese chicken rice to spaghetti to baked rice dishes, and everything was ok, but not overly flavorful. We probably would keep the restaurant in the rotation just because the seating was comfortable and there was something for everyone. Hopefully the taste of the food is better next time!
Taste Good
The environment is good and the service is great. However, the food is lack of flavour and seasoning. The price is not worth it. Is not a restaurant that I would try again. Thanks!
Shi Zuo Mixed Steak Meal Mutton is too spicy Beef is okay Chicken chop is good Bacon is not the usual bacon for Western breakfast The spaghetti was fried in oil but had no flavor at all Recommended to choose other dishes
We went there after 8:30pm to grab something small to eat. We took a look at the menu, the price caught us by surprise. Most main course are $25+ and steaks / grills are $35+. Not something you would expect from a HK style Cafe. $35/steak vs same price steak at the Keg... which one would you prefer, you be the judge of it. To be fair, it comes with a starter soup and a drink (milktea or coffee). The pricing is not... we ordered pork Chop & fries and fish & fries (below $15 each). The pork Chop has no taste... the meat has no taste, the batter has no taste. I have to remove it before eating the pork Chop. Fish taste like from frozen package, so is the fries.
Food is good and price is reasonable
My last visit to Dickens was many years ago in Scarborough when they were still in the plaza by Finch E & Midland. After so many years later, finally got to visit their new location in Richmond Hill. Tasty food, excellent services, and beatiful decor with comfortable chairs. We enjoyed our meal there. Note, they charge extra for payment made via Credit card and the notice is posted in the front door.
Great restaurant richardens
We went for afternoon tea but the food was disappointing. I ordered a pork cutlet with potato salad but the waitress got my order wrong and gave me a pan fried pork chop. The pork chop was so dry and one piece looked like it s a half piece only. I guess that piece was too big so they cut it in half for the order. My husband ordered satay beef rice and he said there was no taste which he needed to add salt to it. The food at the old Dickens Restaurant was much better.
Food quality just similar other cha Chan ten.
Went today for the first time during lunch! (We got there around 12:45.) It was a great experience. I got the Curry Chicken with Rice, which came with a bowl of soup and a drink. This was $16.99. My boyfriend got the Curry Veal with Rice, soup, and a drink for $17.99. He got the cold milk tea, which cost an extra $1.25. Bringing his total to $19.24. In total, before tip, it was $40.95. Both curries were delicious, and I highly recommend them!! Especially if you prefer a curry that is a little more on the spicy side.
The drinks we ordered are watery. How did they manage to brew tea without taste? Probably they share the same pot of tea for 300 customers. We spent $150 for dinner over there the food is terrible. Cream sauce for mussels is unheard of, but think deeper they are sharing the middle cream sauce for the seafood Alfredo sauce. This place is so cheap. You will feel intimidated but they charge unworldly expensive.
I just dont like the place too dark. The food looks so far so good. Service ok not so bad and not so good !
The space is spacious and clean. The food is good enough to come back, but not so good that I would itch to come back. Kids menu is a decent deal.
HK Milk Tea was not strong enough. Food was decent, and service was quick. Party trade was not expensive, and good for value. Also pretty good. Food : 4/5
Good food and drinks with many selections, great service (my family actually know several waiters and waitresses by name), always our go-to restaurant both for dine-in and take out Vegetarian options: Lots of choice without meat (including seafood and fish), plus theyre willing to change an order if needed Dietary restrictions: Just like with vegetarians and vegans, very diverse menu, and theyre willing to make changes to a dish if you want Kid-friendliness: Big family restaurant, lots of TVs, free wifi, and serves children menu Wheelchair accessibility: Several handicap parking spaces, ramps, plus the restaurant is all one floor. Space might be a bit tight if theres a lot of customers though
Both food and service were okay.
Average taste
The food was overpriced
Large menu with a lot of HK-style western dishes like steak, fish, and pasta. For dinner my family and I got the dinner specials, such as the mixed grill, fish in teriyaki sauce, and the baked tiger prawn in tomato sauce. The food was all really good (my parents who usually have something to say about everything, had not much to say today) except I noticed my rice in the tiger prawn dish was a bit too salty. Although I would say its better than being too bland, I kept having to drink water to wash clear my mouth lol. The shrimp were massive tho super worth it. For someone like me with a small/average appetite, the shrimp dish is worth two meals. For comparison, my parents said they like this place more than Maxims and Monte Carlo. The dishes were a bit pricey in general which is expected when you serve steak and seafood, and meals come with soup and a drink, but I noticed even the baked spaghetti bolognese was $19 when its normally around $14 at any HK cafe. Either way if you get the VIP card for $20 (it gives you 10% off forever) it makes it more worth it. Its also kinda chilly inside so I recommend bringing a sweater or something
Went for afternoon tea past 2:30 and ordered the lobster bisque puffy pastry. It was decent and served quite hot.
This place is what you d expect from a Hong Kong style restaurant: decent food, good prices, nothing fancy but quite satisfying.
The staff was so beautifully warm and inviting, I asked for a change in order due to dietary restrictions and I heard her personally telling the cook which I appreciated.
Delicious dishes. Spacious environment. Good service. Prices comparable to a high end dinner.
Courteous services and very good portions of serving of dishes . Dietary restrictions: Fresh salads of variety of Greens Food : 5/5 |
Good but on the pricey side for HK food.
Quality HK style cafe meals in Markham. Busy lunchtime service with sufficient staff and good food standards. Dropped in for Sunday lunch. We were quickly given a number and buzzer. Table was ready within a few minutes wait. Lunch menu was simple. We had the baked Portuguese chicken on fried rice, chicken and ham linguine pasta and baked oxtail on gravy sauce with rice. All were served fresh and warm. Taste was decent. Meals come with soup of the day, garlic toast and drink of your choice. Decor and cleanliness were top notch. Parking: Busy free parking lot during food service hours.
Good food and a lot of varieties. Prices are reasonable!
Portion is really big. But food tasted bad. I tried meat sauce pasta. The pasta is overcooked. The meat sauce is so tasteless. Theres not salt at all. The cream soup put too much flour. Its so sticky and not like a soup at all. So disappointed. wont come second time. The price is not fair neither.
Soooooo satisfied with the abundance of great tasty snacks and delicious Hong Kong style food! Nice to have a room for our group to share the sets and drinks. Love the cool design and comfy seating, and nice service as well. Would definitely come back to tryout other menu items with family.
I like this location better than the previous one. However, it is a lot smaller. Just a heads up, it can get crowded. I had a chicken fillet with mashed potatoes and veggies. To be honest is a good portion, I didn t expect less for the price. The chicken was nice and tender, the veggies were perfectly cooked but the mashed potatoes disappointed me, it had a weird texture and taste. My uncles had a tomahawk stakes, uneven cuts and not enough thickness, previously frozen. My brother had a rack of lamb, it looked good and he said it was ok. My wife had a duck a l orange, it was tasty considering it was previously smoked, no orange tones on the meat itself just in the sauce. The service was good, they were very attentive with the tea and water, and the meal was served nice and hot. Free parking available in this plaza.
Great place for food! Enjoyed the atmosphere with friends and partied. Thank you.
Very good environment. I always have a good time there chatting with friends. Food is great too.
Love to run our meetings or group gathering in the vip room. Dickens event have Karaoke facility in the room. Awesome
Food never disappointed me. The owner is very kind and generous.
We had our early annual dinner there, and Dickens served us from set dinner, beer, late snack/deep fried food basket till closing. It was an amazing experience with the group. We went abit over time, but the owner and waiters there still served us very professionally.
I have been frequenting Dickens since day one when it opened its doors at Finch and Midland in Scarborough decades ago. Through the years, it moved to various locations including the Chalmers and Hwy 7 plaza and the Leslie and 16th plaza. I must say that the restaurant has consistently maintained its standards in terms of food quality, service and decor. This time at the Apple Creek and Woodbine location, I particularly like the impressive wall mural painting of the Toronto skyline. Well be back to try something else. Parking: The parking lot is poorly lighted at night.
I ordered the meal for two as it looked good. I didn t expect that basically every dish was pretty good For example, one soup each of lobster soup and borscht, try it with your teammates. The lobster soup is fragrant and the shrimp meat is refreshing. The sweet and sour taste of borscht is just right for appetizers. ~ Then there s the white wine mussels that make you want to take over the whole plate as soon as you eat them. The milky and winey aroma is irresistible, the plump mussels are tender and free of residue, and the white wine sauce should be dipped thoroughly to make it delicious. One plate feels like it has gone by in seconds, and I still have more to say. ~ Both main dishes were good. The 7-mature steak and lamb rack were fried just right without bleeding. The meat was rich in flavor and soft enough. If I didnt tell you, I would have thought it was produced by a foreigners restaurant. ~ The meal for two is generously portioned, and there is a meal after the meal, which is basically smooth and a bit filling. The store is very popular, with customers coming in one after another. It also has two VIP party rooms, which can also be turned into one oversized room. It s suitable for events, company dinners, and birthday and anniversary parties
You feel completely ignored by the service people. It can take up to 45 mins to get a glass of water, especially irritating when you are trying to eat the mediocre food, and need to wash it down. The most disappointing things I ordered was the French onion soup. The broth was bland, and there was only a small amount of cheese on a the piece of bread the put in the soup. If you cannot do French onion correctly, dont serve it! The the picture attached. The chicken plate I order was mediocre. The chicken was cooked ok. The pasta was dry, and the sauce for the chicken was far from enough. I wanted something on the pasta, like more sauce, but when I ordered it, it was another 40 mins to come out. I had almost finished eating before I got the water and sauce I ordered. This was all sade because we were in the middle of the room beside the serving area, and each time I tried to ask the for water, they just looked at me a and shook their head yes, then never brought any. The food was far over priced for the quality and service.
Food was not too bad but long wait time for the meals to arrive, given that the restaurant was only 60% full. Unpleasant experience was that my baby had a diaper emergency and asked the waiter if they have a diaper changing area, the waiter looked at me as if I was asking for something out of ordinary and said they don t provide that nor giving any options. Definitely not a family friendly restaurant. Not planning to visit again.
The baked pork chop with cheese, tomato and cream sauce is one of my all-time favorite. The chicken wing are very crispy juicy and tender. The service is very caring, enthusiastic.
