I love this place and go there often. The owner is a lovely lady that works hard. I was there on a day in November 2024 and the owner lady was not there. I was taken back because one of the male workers came out to do something. This worker caught my attention because as he was walking back into the kitchen and he had his hand deep down the back of his pants and was obviously scratching his ass. This really shocked me especially since I go there often and know the Japanese are known for their cleanliness. Not sure if I should point out this individual to the owner or not or simply stop going.
Worst experience ever! I have been coming here for a long time. The food and cleanliness is getting worse. I come here just because of the convenience of shopping next door. Yesterday I asked the cashier for an extra plate because my disabled mother in law can't eat all of her food. I was going to split it with her. She told me it was against the rules because of labour costs! To put an extra plate in the dishwasher??!! How cheap and ridiculous are you people?! The pork was grey and thin, hardly any vegetables in the curry and there are never any clean tables. Dusty and dirty! You can see back into the kitchen and it's dirty as well. Washrooms are always disgusting without any toilet paper or hot water. They charge for hot water and no tap water. If they are this cheap, what else are they cutting corners on? This place has gone downhill. Shame on you guys!! Shame on the cashier for treating a customer this way!
2024 October 2.5★ Kitsune Udon $13.98 Standard both with udon and a few slices of fish cake and tofu. It's ok. Seems a bit expensive for what it is. Rice Omlette $12.98 A stir fried rice with a few small pieces chicken wrapped up in egg and topped up with a light ketchup sauce. Ok. For a quick meal, it's ok. But don't expect something fancy here.
This is ketchup fried rice covered by egg and water down ketchup. Omurice can be a simple dish but this quality is miserable. Fried rice is too sour and the fried rice had nothing else other than ketchup and rice. Not even onion to add flavour shows they have no dedication in making the dish taste good. 残念でした。
takoyaki, 6 pieces for $6.50 were just halves. just warm, not hot curry omelette rice, $13.50, was mediocre the protein in hr fried rice was dry
The Japanese curry is really good. It hearty, flavourful and not spicy. We tried the Curry egg on rice and Curry (pork chop) Katsu Don. I would say the pork chop was a bit over done. For quick eat, don't mind a cafeteria kind of feel and looking for great Japanese curry I would come here.
I visited J-town for the first time. After spending too many hours and money at the shops I was hungry. I stopped by this restaurant and ordered the Hamburg set meal that came with good portion of japanese rice, orange, salad, potato salad and of course the Hamburg. Oh boy was the Hamburg juicy!!! Delicious. Would recommend
The restaurant is located in a cozy and spacious corner inside J Town. Their curry with deep fried pork chop or chicken are delicious. Today my friend ordered the omelette rice which takes time to cook and I followed to order the oyakodon which is also take some time to cook so we can start eating at the same time. The price is not high that won't break your wallet for sure.
Ordered curry & breaded pork - would be nice if the bed of rice and curry sauce are as piping hot as the breaded pork
Authentic Japanese Curry Chicken Katsu!! Will visit again!!
All tables were dirty, no one cleaned up, very disgusting
Well, it a comfy place to eat
Skipped our order and we had to wait an extra 20 minutes. Their apology was lackluster.
My go to place for lunch. Chicken katsu is a must have.
Curry rice has been on my mind since my colleagues took me there to eat it a few months ago! When my colleague worked nearby, this was the canteen where she often came to eat at noon. And me as a food blogger! I didnt know there was curry rice here! ! The curry is very fragrant, slightly spicy and just right The most amazing thing is to pair it with their rice I saw they said they use Hokkaido rice! Every piece is plump! Zundu is wonderful! A whole storm was sucked in so delicious it was licking the plate! Recommend the pork chop! Curry rice and pork chop are the standard dishes~ If you don t want to eat pork, they have chicken steak options, omelette rice, curry rice, or just plain curry rice that doesn t want anything - The freezer next door has tofu cheesecake which is also very good! Not sweet! Not boring! Just the right dessert after cooking! There are puffs next door! Another puff, double the happiness~ Go back to the freezer, buy some Wagyu beef and take it home to make sukiyaki. Life is complete! !
Visited this quaint little restaurant a couple times and absolutely love the Curry and rice with Premium Pork Cutlet - it is so delicious and the curry is amazing The cafe may not look like much at a quick glance but it is really good! It is located in J-Town and I would easily recommend that you check it out.
Tiny tiny shreds of chicken. That take up less then half a table spoon. This is their version of Chicken rice omelet. Also this meal is Labeled as it takes time yet mine came quickly and my girlfriend is waiting for her regular meal for over 20 minutes.
Small Japanese cafeteria-type spot in j-town. This is the best curry omurice I ve ever had, comparable to ones in Japan. The taste was so homemade, you can tell it was made with love.
Go to place at J town for curry katsu or curry upon Prices are reasonable. Food
The Japanese Bento was really yummy. I really like the Onions chicken rice
Food was authentic and reasonably priced
Nice spot for lunch for authentic Japanese dishes.
reasonable prices for good food
A good assortment of Japanese comfort food. They have various Japanese curry dishes, noodle bowls, and rice bowls.
Always a good place for a quick and delicious lunch bite. Updated 2023-03-02: Still the best out there. Recommended
nice and quiet spot located just beside j-town. the katsu curry don was very delicious and filling, however for the price the portions could have been more generous. regardless, a nice spot to go grab lunch in you re in the area and want to have some good japanese food!
Nice Japanese fast food place Curry, ramen, udon, etc. Good prices and portion
Probably the item I picked, but this doesn t seem to worth $15 I hear the curry is much better tho, I ll have that next time instead
The food and the price are reasonable! I love to have the Donkatsu meal and tempura udon, especially, their tempura udon always reminds me my Osaka trip. I had the best tempura udon in Osaka, Japan and its the closest one Ive found in Toronto.
Cafe Green Tea. Another great place for a short stay. Tried their whole menu. I still prefer to stick to their cold soba and katsudon which I like most from their whole menu. A very comfy and casual restaurant indeed.
EDIT : June 7 2023: As of yet, Ive received no update or any direct contact information. -------------- EDIT: Owner, i see your response below but you have not provided a Name/phone number/or email that I can contact and speak with you personally. -------------- Ive been eating here for years but the quality really has gone down. The chicken omelette rice contains almost ZERO chicken.. Ive asked them about it and the lady said its chicken flavoured, its not supposed to have a lot of meat this wasnt the case every other time Ive eaten it. The chicken on the spoon is the only chicken in this omelette. They were unwilling to remake it or offer me my money back.
Decent food, shokudo style.
Fathers Meal with Chicken is the absolute best. Its basically a Hamburg Steak, with chicken katsu, sliced cabbage, potato salad and white rice. Comes with 2 slices of oranges and miso soup. Food : 5/5
Refused to give me tap water, quite annoying. Food is fine, not bad but not amazing, food is fairly priced
A great place for a quick bite or during weekday lunches, always presented nicely and timely.
Good
Very simple cafe located in J-Town. Fairly quick service with a simple menu (but all classics). Prices are good too (although I found their bottled drinks to be a bit pricey).
Too shabby to be called a cafe
THE CURRY IS A MUST TRY!! Came here for a lunch and it is a food-court style restaurant but was blown away with the flavour and portion size!! Highly recommend and such a hidden gem! The tempura was FIRE!!!
Maybe their other menu items are better but their omurice had almost no chicken in it. I think mine only had 4 or 5 little pieces, which were unfortunately rubbery . It was basically rice fried in tomato sauce with egg over it for $12. The service was nice but some of the dishes need to be improved.
Have always been coming here. Love the food. Staff is nice.
authentic Japanese Curry
Yummy food
I purchased food for dine in. I asked for tap water for a drink. They rejected my request for tap water and directed me to purchase bottled water. Their reason was there s a government rule due to COVID that told them they can t serve tap water. They re forcing all customers to purchase bottled water rather than free access to tap water. Tap water is free.
The most authentic Japanese cafeteria style foods( ) in TORONTO super legit. Every time I miss the taste of Japan I come here. Best Japanese Curry in Toronto. They are the only one who serves (Japanese style hamburger[beef patty]with rice as a set) very special Japanese local food that you could only find in here. But the price just a bit more than Japan s cafeteria restaurant . served regular Japanese quantity just ok not gonna get too full. Definitely not the place to make a pig of yourself.
Good portion but missing veggie
Had a craving for Japanese curry so I went to my goto place J-Town Cafe Green Tea. Had to post the updated prices for everyone $1.00 more for the curry rice meals and $2.00 more the meal set. Good food for a quick bite. Need more drink selections had to go across to grocery store to get my Mr. Boss canned coffee. No complaints keep up the good job. GANBATTE! FIGHTING!
Great food and staff as always.
Simple and delicious food, never disappoints!! All the curry dishes are awesome and the zaru soba I had was fantastic. More of a restaurant than a cafe .
Delicious food with reasonable price and nice staff.
Where can you dine in with this price in GTA? I was surprised by their price. They make few Asian dishes in home made style. It reminded me the time back when I was studying in Japan. The portion is not big but reasonable. Curry is good but I found it quite spicy for me it was good. I think many people enjoys coming and take out here so it gets busy sometimes
One of the best Japanese curry rice available in town with very good pricing still. The restaurant is a bit out dated and could have been a bit more clean.
Japanese meals with reasonable prices. Great place for a quick lunch or dinner. Service is fast and staff is friendly. Located on the right side of bakery nakamura.
One of our favourite places to grab a bite with the family. It has been too long with the pandemic.
Somewhat run down feeling and service is not top notch (mostly self-service) but we like eating here (most of food is delicious as Japanese moms food).
Curry katsu is amazing here, great for takeout too!
Truly a hidden gem. Delicious Soba and Udon, Cury rice and Bentob sets at $10! I live in Japan for 2 years and this place is legit. Really recommend it to everyone!
Their Shokupan (plain loaf of bread) the best we have ever tasted. Texture remains super soft and tender even after a couple days.
Visited on Saturday mid afternoon so the cosy place, had space and tables free. I noticed a good selection of Japanese cuisine. The dishes are displayed on a big board so easy to decide what you want. The staff were polite and efficient. Prices were reasonable. .
The worst experience... They think nothing about customers.. Will not come back again here
very bad experience bad service and never recognize their fault!!!
Great place to come for lunch! The menu offers a wide variety of Japanese comfort food.
I did not got my shrimp even though I said I wanna add a shrimp to my dish and paid for it. Then I start eating because I tried to talk to both cashier and staff and they were like it s none of their business. And I just want my shrimp. Then I finished my dishes and they came to me and said because I ve already finished, they cannot change the dish for me. But certainly you can bring me shrimp right? That s hilarious. Never back again
i did not get what i ordered and the cashier and staff here were like its none of their business.
Delicious
Yaki soba in the back and cold soba noodles with tempura in the front. With green teas. Was yummy and very casual environment. Slightly smaller portion than I was expecting but I didn t mind.
It was pretty good
Nor a francy place for family gathering. Very simple dishes. But you can taste the freshness of the meal. The egg and meat are not overcooked. Just right and juicy. Good one!
Had a hankering for Japanese curry after living in Japan for a while. The only place I know that serves it, and it is delicious. Also a good price to boot.
Love their don Katsu! Their Japanese rice is one of the best that I have ever tasted! To kept price down they have shrunk the portion of the pork chops a little but still really good.
Cafeteria style food of good quality. Portions have shrunk and no longer worth the price. Curry and tomato sauces are a bit sweet for my taste. Disappointed. Rice is good though!
Delicious Japanese curry with breaded chicken/pork/shrimp.
Had the chicken oyakodon and chicken katsu curry. Portions were kind of small but everything tasted really good. I found the food incredibly salty though so not sure Id come back to eat here. Service is really quick though and very homey. Very affordable as well. Nothing fancy here but if you want quick tasty meal this is your place.
Authentic Japanese comfort food. Reminds me of my childhood:)
Food was okay but pricey for cafeteria style.
Homestyle Japanese food - Quick, affordable, and tasty. Portions were decent. Would recommend the oyakodon or katsudon!
Japanese comfort food
Great Japanese style curry.
Been here for many years, and its always consistent and great tasting! Love the omelette rice here, really hard to find good ones and to make at home, at least for me. Weekends are always packed, youre better off during the weekday for faster food prep time. I give them 8.5/10!
Really great lunch spot. Food and price are good!
The omurice and curry are great! They also do takeout which is convenient when you dont have time to stick around. The prices are fairly decent too, and the meals are filling.
Located inside J-town, you have to walk all the way to the end to get to this restaurant. When you walk inside, it looks like a cafeteria. Walk right up to the front and you will get a host of japanese food that you can pick. The prices are reasonable. I ordered the katsu-don but you can order other stuff like their curry cutlet on rice or tempura on noodle. Once you order and pay, you will be given a number which they will call out and you have to go and pickup. The food taste was ok. I wouldnt say that I was blown away but it was reasonable for the price. This place gets extremely busy during the weekends. Mainly cantonese customers coming in to eat. If I am looking for a quick japanese food for about $10, then id come again.
It was very authentic Japanese food. Although it is deep fried pork, the taste was very simple and fresh
I enjoy the food. Good portion for the price. Staff are friendly. Best of all I get to buy more food after I eat.
For a gluten-free option, ask for the oyako-don (rice with chicken and egg). Note that it is cooked in the same pan as non gluten free cutlet so let them know when you order to ask for a new pan.
My go-to lunch spot at Jtown. Limited menu focused on curry, quick service.
Enjoyed shopping and a friendly environment thanks
I had Tonkatsu teisyoku. It was very nice!
Authentic Japanese Food. Will go back again.
Very reasonable price, not too crowded, the deep fly pork with Japanese curry is good
The Curry rice was cold
Good lunch portion. Comes with salad and soup for any pasta over $12. I ordered the bolognese , decent but salad dressing no longer the same as before. Slightly disappointed.
It is ok...
Always a great quiet place to have a meal at. The restaurant has a great little shop inside. Food is always fresh and delicious. Its a little hard to find. Once you park you have to walk into the strip mall, up the stairs, and its located at the back.
I have been to this place for at least a hundred times. Used to love their curry pork with rice. The pork chop used to be very juicy, but I guess they hired another chef. It was not as good as before.
high quality good and tasting japanese food.
Great value and amazing food quality
Great curry! I cant get enough!
GOOD!
Small cafe style lunch. Consistent flavor. No surprise each time I visit.
One star is flattery. This restaurant offers the worst Japanese dining experience ever. It is absolutely shocking that someone with such poor culinary skills would present the disgusting food to the public which I wouldnt give to my dog. I have more than 35 years of Japanese food and I can declare this is the worst Japanese restaurant run by Japanese.
