I visited during lunch time and ordered the ramen. It was delicious and perfect on this cold day. The restaurant is located in the second floor, beside Goodlife. The restaurant has a nice vibe, modern decor, great music in the background and very clean. The service was super friendly and efficient. The price is good too! I will definately return!

The food is always pretty good and they have a great menu rotation. What I love most is how amazing the staff here are! Everyone is super nice, very attentive and friendly. The only thing I would say they can change would be lowering the music a bit.

Please train your management team further, I feel the management here could use some improvement. We dined on a Thursday evening, and while the servers were attentive and provided good service, our experience was soured by one dish—the fried scallops. Unfortunately, the dish was completely inedible. We each took a small bite, immediately found it unpleasant, and informed the server. Despite this, we continued to order several other dishes, with our total bill coming to over $200 for just the two of us. We assumed the scallops would be removed from the bill, but when the check arrived, the server explained that the "executive chef" had done a quality check and deemed the dish fine. However, to us, it tasted rotten. If you weren’t going to remove the dish from the bill, we at least would have appreciated a heads-up so we could have taken it to go, rather than letting it go to waste. To make matters worse, the scallops weren’t even discounted until we brought it up at the time of payment. I was surprised and disappointed that the dish, which we barely touched (only half a bite each of the four pieces), wasn’t comped, especially given how unpleasant it was. We’re not typically the type to send dishes back, but the way this was handled by management has completely turned me off from returning. I won’t be coming back, and I’ll be advising friends and family to avoid this place as well.

Beyond gourmet … pure luxury. The oysters were unbelievably creamy and layered in flavors. The staff were extremely responsive. Some very innovative food combinations and worth exploring. This will put you into a happy place!

The food tastes good, services are also ok. The only problem here is, restaurant at this price, both server and the chef do not understand the Japanese culture. They serve you the salty cooked dishes first, then the sashimi and sushi. It’s difficulty to actually taste the fish after eating the salty tasting cooked food. If you don’t ask the server to change the plate and chopstick for you. They expect you to use the same plate and chopstick for both the cooked and raw food. Feels like the servers are forced to learn the name of the fish without actually understanding it.

We recently dined at this restaurant after hearing about its reopening under new management and a revamped menu. Unfortunately, the experience did not meet our expectations, especially considering how much we used to love this restaurant before the changes. The food and service used to be excellent and justified the price point. Sadly, that is no longer the case. The service, while attentive, lacked the expertise we anticipated for a high-end establishment. One major misstep was when a server incorrectly introduced a dish as wagyu when it was actually Angus steak. In comparison to the previous management, the service now feels far less polished, despite the significantly higher cost. With an automatic 20% tip on a $200 per person meal, we expected much more professionalism and care. While the food and plating do look nice—like other reviews have mentioned, it’s certainly Instagrammable—the quality of the food was a disappointment. The brandy shrimp and Nigiri set were disappointing, comparable to what you'd find at a very casual sushi restaurant. Every other dish we ordered—black cod, baked oysters, fish crudo, calamari, and yuzu mayo prawn—was equally underwhelming. Nothing wowed us, and for the price point, we expected far better. We also booked the karaoke VIP room, which was one of the main reasons we chose this venue. Unfortunately, the karaoke machine took the entire dinner to load a few songs, leaving us unable to enjoy the private room. Given that it was a key factor in our booking, this was a significant disappointment. Overall, we are deeply disappointed with the restaurant’s new direction and would no longer recommend it to anyone. We hope the management can make improvements, but for now, this is not the great experience it once was. Lastly, beware that the menu on their website do not have the most updated prices.

Walking in, i was greeted with smiles by the server at the front desk and that already set the tone for a warm, welcoming experience. I ordered sushi tasting platter, calamari, and lamb and all of the dishes were spectacular. They were all unique in terms of flavour, texture and aesthetic. On top of that, the drinks were phenomenal! I had the pleasure of trying the Tokyo GodFather, which paired really nicely with all the food i had served to me. Im glad to say my experience here at Kiu was amazing! Can’t wait to come back here for dinner again!

Kiu is under new management. All reviews prior to Oct 2024 should be disregarded. Food is mediocre for a restaurant that presents itself as high end. They aren't as good as the former Kiu menu. The food seems confused. Sashimi is thinner and lower quality than before the management change. Tummy felt unwell after eating. I ordered a yuzu pepper grilled chicken dish for my toddler and told the waiter it was for a baby. The waiter did not warn us the dish was super spicy even without the seasoned skin so we had to order a second main course for her. When we asked about the spice level the waiter had no idea about the menu and needed to ask the kitchen. Service, wait staff, hostess, kitchen, and manager were a chaotic disaster. Only 4 out of 7 courses arrived to the table. We were at the restaurant for over 2 hours and waited for an hour with nothing arriving and nobody updating on the situation. We were lucky already because we got some food since we were at the first table. The other customers left with no food after several hours and were still waiting for a discounted bill. Hostess asked us to be ready to vacate the table for the next booking...we would love to if you would bring us the food so we can leave. After inquiring with multiple staff and the manager many times (this took an hour) they said food in 5 minutes. I needed to pack it to leave because my baby had been sitting for 2 hours and is crying now. They still had delays and I had to ask multiple times to figure out the bill and resolution. Got my final food items as take out, it was not worth the wait it was like garbage. They packed melting ice cream with a tart 🙄. Honestly they are lucky customers did not get up and leave without paying and nobody could blame us after getting no food and service. As I said we got some food. Many tables that arrived after had no food at all. The table beside us only got the first appetizer and then tried to get the bill to leave after waiting over an hour for nothing. The restaurant needs to do less social media promotions and collabs and work on hiring more staff and training.

Surprisingly good, and its not your typical Japanese restaurant that serves the same dishes like everywhere else. Its located on 2nd floor near Cineplex. Theres an underground parking for those looking for a warmer parking spot.

They have brought back the ramen here which is very tasty however the loud rap music that was playing did not suit the restaurant. We had asked the waitress if they could turn the music down as we could not hear each other above the loud music and she seemed apologetic and went to turn it down. About 5 minutes later, the music was turned up even louder and an obscene rap song was playing. If you want a nice meal in a lovely atmosphere, then dont come to this restaurant. We used to love coming to this restaurant but our last experience has soured that.

Review is strictly on the new Koi Kaiseki seasonal menu - 3.5 stars. Since there is a promotion for their new menu, we decided to give this place a try. Perhaps there was too much hype and Instagram advertisements but I was disappointed with some of the dishes. Typically I would take photos of all the dishes but I was just not impressed. Key points: 1. The A5 waygu and eggplant has one slice of waygu (so thin it looks like what you use in hot pot). 2. The sashimi pieces were fresh but small (see photo, radish is the same size as the sashimi). Im also shocked that the torched fish on the Sushi plate were so thin. 3. Fried salmon dish - salmon tasted fishy, however, my boyfriends piece was fine. The mushrooms have no seasoning or taste. 4. Lamb was good. I think some people might find it a bit too gamey though. 5. Tamago soup is basically Chinese egg drop soup with miso paste. 6. Cheesecake dessert was the highlight, delicious! 7. You wont leave hungry, very filling meal. 8. Music was blasting, can barely hear.

Used to come here regularly, probably 2-3 times a month. They recently changed their menu and got rid of their noodles options (udon and ramen) for dinner. Dissapointed about that change and have never been back since. Hope they will bring it back in the future. Will go elsewhere until then

Agreed with the latest review from Joyce. Got the set menu and only 1 of 7 dish came after an hour of waiting before we called it quits . Definitely do not come as it s a waste of time until further resolved

November 24, 2024

Don t believe the recent positive reviews or the instagram hype. This restaurant is a disaster under new management. Arrived on Friday night with 3 adults and a toddler to try to 7 course Koi special at 5:30pm and couldn t leave until around 8. Food arrived quickly initially, but as the restaurant got busier, the food stopped coming. Waited 1 hour between course 4 and 5. None of the staff came over to check on our table until we started to complain. While waiting for our food, was told by the hostess to vacate our table because another party was waiting. We didn t get to enjoy the rest of the meal because my toddler was crying from waiting too long for dinner to finish. Had to get the rest of the meal packed and was offered a discount on the meal. The tables beside us had it worse because they either only received one dish or not any at all. The food itself is mediocre. It s obvious the new management and owners are cutting corners to maintain their profit margins. Fish quality is lower than the previous Kiu and the Koi tasting menu clearly did not have toro. They obviously did not have enough staff either as we were essentially ignored as the place became busier. If you value your time, don t come here. This restaurant is done unless they shape up.

I ve been a regular at this restaurant for many years and it has been a solid 4~ However, it looks like there has been a major management change because I arrived for the grand opening today apparently and they ve now changed their entire menu which is much more expensive while the quality of the food tastes pretty much the same. I ordered the Atlantic salmon which looked great on plate but there was just not much there. I also had a quesy stomach after 30-40 mins which didn t sit well. It also took almost an hour for them to serve and actually missed a sushi dish which they did apologize but it was awkward because we waited so long that the server thought we wanted to pay for the bill when we just wanted our final dish to come. Overall, I don t think I ll be coming back as often as I did.

November 22, 2024

Not recommended at all.. The sushi quality is disappointing and the slices are very thin. At this price point, I could find much better options elsewhere, and it feels overpriced

I ve been here many times for lunch, and it never disappoints. This spot consistently provides a relaxing, quiet atmosphere with a stunning view that enhances the dining experience every time. The pricing is very reasonable considering the quality of the food and ambiance truly a great value for what you receive. Highly recommended for a satisfying and peaceful lunch!

The server told that they have new owner and new chef. I m sorry I have been to Kiu since day one. When I came back from vacation. Everything has changed. Previous servers and mangers were friendly, attentive now those server has no soul, lazy, lack of knowledge of your menu. Food portion cut half. You can see the sashimi, the thickness is half size compare last chef. Scallop using small size cut in half, but counted you as two for one tiny scallop. Pork chop rice, they is overcooked. Rice soft like cheese cake and extremely salty. We Spent 200 with tips. But server didn t even say Thank you. If I don t come that time. I guess you don t have that 20 dollars tips. This is my last time. Say goodbye to kiu.

Been here both before and after the the menu change, and to be honest, I like the new menu more but I feel like the servers arent good anymore, and the FOH manager is even more useless than the previous one. From managers to servers, everyone lacks experience and enthusiasm. None of them know how to serve and treat their customers right, including the manager. Food was pretty decent though IMO, but the lack of service makes me not wanting to go back, especially with the price hike and inattentive servers/ managers!

We had a terrible dining experience last night. The new management need to work very hard to improve their customer services and food quality with this expensive menu. We were sitting in a dining area that has no lighting (According to the staff, the lighting was broken and needs repair), they provided us with one tea light candle to begin with but there was no way you can read the menu. After we requested, they provided a few more tea light candles but tea light candles doesn t last the whole night and it burnt out very quick, unfortunately, the restaurant was out of these tea light candles, at the end we have to eat in the dark and cant even see what we were eating. The staff offered us to change another dining table, however, we need to finish our meal in ONE HOUR (of course we didnt accept this offer as we are planning to celebrate a birthday). Furthermore, if you bring your outside cake to this restaurant, there is an additional $15 cake fee (which we found out after we were in the restaurant, they didn t even refrigerate the cake). By the way, we feel very sorry for the staff, she kept on apologizing many times but her boss just hiding behind and never come over to our table to apologies or explain to us the incident. Good Luck new KIU and we miss the OLD KIU.

Came back again as my friend told me that this restaurant changed the management team and the sushi chef. We were sitting at the bar and the sushi chef Geoff was helping us out. He used to work at other omakasa restaurants, so the sushi he made was definitely great. Its definitely a great experience with great price along with great view and omakasa quality. See previous review: Horrible experience and defining not coming back. Unsure of they changed the sushi chef, as the rice was horrible. Uni was also very over priced, $50 for 1 tiny piece of uni. Used to be a regular client, but never coming back again. Ps: I brought up my concern to the manager, he said he will give me a dessert for free, which I didnt take the offer.

I think I got food poisoning after last nights dinner here. The grilled BC black cod with scallops was served cool to the touch. I mentioned it, and while I said it was fine, the waitress, who was very nice, still took it off the bill. Unfortunately, I still got sick, either from that dish or something else I ate there. I had stomach pain for a few hours afterwards. Cant see myself returning. Ive been here many times before, and it was okay. Maybe because of the new menu, half the items we tried to order were out of stock, so it feels like theyre trying to run through old inventory, which is probably what I ended up eating. Hope nobody else got sick last night other than me and my friend.

October 22, 2024

Used to come here all the time and was great, had a great bar setup as well, came here to see the new management and tv isn t working, still no Asahi on draft after multiple weeks, menu is lacking previous items such as karage and ramen which ramen is only on the lunch menu apparently. Update September 2024. Food is still delicious, however the menu has changed, there are less items, portions are smaller and it became much more expensive. There are more special effects to the food, to make it more instagramable than innovation. Unfortunately taking one star down and hoping the place wont downgrade further. Old review: Hands down the best sushi place in Canada (at least). After living in Japan for some time I lost all hope in finding good sushi in Toronto. Boy you wont regret eating sushi at Kiu, its a special experience. Chefs are the worlds best and prices for the food you get are w are all over the place, but food overshadows the this.

Would happily rate this place 5 stars but with the new menu effective September 2024, it s one star. I checked my visa and prior to the menu change we ve been here 17 times in the last 12 months with a total spend of $3,350. Now the new menu is restricted to ramen and donburi. No rolls, no sushi, and they have removed most of the great items they had down to two salads and a karage. I don t know what they were thinking. I guess times are tough and they are focused on the ramen and donburi crowd exclusively. Escalated the feedback to the manager when we saw the new menu and it was to no avail. They were very rigid in their thinking. It s a shame, this was one of our favourites. If you have a Time Machine, use it and go back here prior to the menu change because it was honestly five stars and had some of the best cuisine. Such a shame.

The service is nice , but the table is too tiny for the plates. The sushi is tasty. Dessert is yummy: warm, creamy, not too sweet. The 2 kind of soups and Sashimi salad are ok. However I am so disappointed with sashimi samplers and the grilled New Zealand lamb. Sashimi is chewy. The waiter told me there are 4pcs lamb will be served, But end up 3 pcs overcooked and burnt lamb on the plate: very dry and bitter.

This is a restaurant with very innovative dishes. Generally speaking, they are delicious, the prices are not expensive, the presentation is beautiful, the service is warm, and it is a great dining experience. I personally like to go to aka oni in the past, and will frequent this restaurant in the future. The price/performance ratio is better than aka oni. Yuzi Fried Prawns: Very plump and juicy, not greasy Scalop: The presentation is beautiful, and there are fish roe garnishes on it. Cod: The price is not cheap, but the sauce is very fragrant and the fish is fresh Fried chicken: Fried chicken is different in each season. This season, it is Japanese-style fried chicken covered with purple cabbage, which is refreshing and not greasy. Dessert: Seasonal limited dessert box, the maple leaves inside are made of biscuits, very crispy and fragrant. Mud is chocolate chip and pistachio ice cream

We came here for a birthday celebration in the VIP room with karaoke. Minimum spend was $1000. We came to the reception, one of us had a coffee in hand. They stopped us and said no outside drinks allowed but can keep the drink at the bar then we can take it after. Look, I understand the policy but we booked the VIP room and would be spending $1000 minimum. We ignored it as it doesnt seem like a big deal to bring 1 coffee to a VIP room. So we walked in with the drink and the bartender also stopped us and explained the same policy. After explaining our rationale, they let us in, but it already created a less than pleasant experience. We ended up spending $17xx while ordering a $150 bottle of sake. Food was mediocre. Also the karaoke machine does not work as it needs to download some songs that are on the cloud, the wifi was terribly slow, it took 2hrs to download 4% of 1 song. Needless to say we couldnt even use the karaoke as we wanted. Used to come here a lot before the management changed and menu changes. Can honestly say we will not be coming back.

October 22, 2024

I ve been a loyal customer of Kiu for years, but the recent changes to the menu and management have been extremely disappointing. The new menu is unappealing, with smaller portions that make the prices seem unreasonable for a main course. To make matters worse, the service was terrible. Four of us had already finished our meals while two others were still waiting for theirs. Despite repeatedly asking about our food, no one seemed to care. Kiu used to be a favorite, but with these changes, I don t think I ll be returning.

October 22, 2024

One of the unfortunate updates to the menu was the removal of ramen, udon, and Don (rice) dishes, which I used to enjoy. The brandy prawn, priced at $35, was particularly disappointing. The server mentioned there would be 5 pieces, but when the dish arrived, there were only 4, and the shrimp were extremely small. I also couldn t taste any brandy flavor. The shrimp heads were deep-fried, but they tasted like they had been prepared hours ago they were cold, stale, and lacked the crispiness you d expect from something freshly fried. Overall, the quality did not justify the high price point, and I left feeling extremely disappointed. For what they re charging, I expected much more.

Not really worth. Two people ordering a main and sharing an app resulted in the bill being 100. I get that the place might be a bit more fancier than others but the food is just mediocre so not worth the price. The curry udon I ordered had an egg but the yolk wasn t even runny, and wouldn t even slide off my chopsticks. In addition they ask for your name and phone number just to sit a table in person. I get that some places need it for reservations to contact but why for just walk it? I asked the hostess why they needed it and she replied just to set up a table for you. She didn t directly answer seeing how they truly didn t need the name and phone number. I had to request a server in the end to get it removed from their system. Nowadays I guess restaurants are getting away with collecting your personal information without even terms or conditions to read and agree, kinda disappointing.

Amazing experience at Kiu Japanese Restaurant with my buddy! We both ordered the $45 set dinner, and we both enjoyed the food thoroughly! :) We did have to wait a long time for the food to come out, but we did not mind the wait at all! :) The restaurant was also proactive and gave us an appetizer and both of us drinks on the house! My family and I decided to try this restaurant for the first time after reading the several reviews. The restaurant itself was nice and clean. The ramen and udon was flavourful. The shrimp tempura was big in size and 3 pieces came on the plate. Overall a mediocre experience and a bit overpriced. The service was rather slow so it isn t a 5 star experience. We went to Kiu this past weekend to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary. The miso soup was amazing; the broth was so tasty so it reminded me of the soup we got in Japan. I only wish it had some enoki mushrooms and some small cubes of tofu and then it would have been perfect. We got the jumbo shrimp tempura (they were huge) and this was wonderful; a light crispy batter that was perfectly cooked (not greasy). We ordered a sashimi combo and the fish was so tasty and fresh; it was excellent. We also ordered some Japanese Uni (tasty, but not worth $20 per piece), unagi was excellent (reminded me of when we were in Japan) and Otoro (tuna belly). I was very pleased that we got a table by the window, as it was a nicer view to celebrate our anniversary. We were fortunate to have Jack as our server( bill said Alex). He was extremely polite and helpful; he provided excellent service and was very knowledgeable. We tried the scotch sampler and were told they offered 3 single malt scotches, but they had a pure malt, which we were told was a blend of scotches. As it turns out the Japanese say a pure malt if a blend of single malts, so it isn t just different blends. You do pay a premium price, but we thought the sushi and service were definitely worth it. If you like AYCE, because you want to pay less, then you shouldn t go here. Parking: Since Kiu is in the same complex as the Markham Cinema, there is lots of parking underground and above ground.

Started to revisit Kiu again and happy to see an updated menu that everybody can enjoy. The vegan items are clearly listed - I ve had the edamame, udon and ramen. I appreciate the clarity of the menu, the variety of the vegan dishes available, and the professional servers. Everybody from the staff, the chefs (as seen in the open kitchen) and the server assistants are impeccably attentive to hospitality. It is a welcoming experience from beginning to end and best of all it s conveniently beside cineplex and it s nice enough to bring guests for a special dinner/event.

Food is meh, service is horrible. Sushi is not worth it, snow crab? NAH it s imitation crab! Alvina messed up our order and the resolution was terrible. If she can t remember what we ordered, either write it down next time or check back again with us to confirm you got the items right. We came at 8pm, appetizers were served slowly. Even before 9pm the appetizers plates were cleared away and we were just waiting. You saw us waiting there for >25 mins after appetizers and didn t even check on us if we want anything else or if we were waiting for something?? After checking and confirming she missed our order, the food came out with cold sushi rice and food was clearly made in a rush. She brought out an extra salmon roll on the house but we didn t ask for it and didn t want it. Instead of bringing out something we didn t ask for, a better resolution would be to ask if we wanted desserts on the house or maybe do a 10% off. The extra roll went to waste. IT GETS WORSE. At 9:30 even before finishing our food that came out only 10 mins ago, the server came to tell us the restaurant was closed and rushed us to pay the bill before we were even done. TERRIBLE SERVICE, it s okay to mess up the order BUT AT LEAST HAVE BETTER RESOLUTION?? We didn t even get to finish the food but food was ugh anyways

My fiance and I had a really lovely lunch at Kiu, it was to celebrate our anniversary and early Valentine s Day. Kiu s staff went above and beyond to make this lunch special for us by providing Prosecco on the house and a hand written card (so sweet!) We got the meal set for 2 and it came with fresh sashimi chefs choice, sushi and udon. The food was amazing and the staff were so friendly. We are lactose intolerant and the dessert was ice cream so we asked if there were any alternatives. We received the watashi cake set and it was the most cutest dessert filled with yummy red bean filling and chewy mochi. 10/10 - chefs kiss for the entire experience. January 22, 2024

I recently visited here for lunch and had a rather disappointing experience. Despite arriving at the restaurant at 2:15, well within the lunchtime last call mentioned at 2:15 on their closing time of 3:00, I found no staff at the front desk. After waiting for three minutes, a server finally noticed me at 2:18. I expressed my interest in dining, but to my dismay, at 2:20, I was informed that walk-ins were not accepted, only takeout. Given that I had driven for an hour and arrived during the last call, it was disheartening to be turned away without any prior acknowledgment. To add to the frustration, it was pouring rain outside, making the option of takeout impractical. This experience, combined with the lack of timely service, left me feeling unwelcome and frustrated. The manager doesn t listen to my feedback at all, so I have no idea how to convey my disappointing experience.

Arguing with customers instead of providing solutions reflects poorly on your service. I have heard people get turned away because of your service. It is unfortunate that it s a +1 now. Hey Kiu, That was quick reply, I do hope you put this kinda effort on serving your customers in the restaurant. But hey seriously, favoritism and leniency , these are very strong and subjective accusations you are using here. Are you sure this is appropriate to describe your customers? Worst PR on google I have ever seen so far. Your reply is childish and goofy. Some continue education will help you learn to be professional and polite, trust me it worth the investment! January 22, 2024

I recently visited Kiu which the location and environment presents itself as a high-end Japanese dining experience. Regrettably, both the service and the food quality did not meet the expected standards at all for such a price point. Comparable Japanese restaurants nearby offer way better quality and portions at a more reasonable cost, suggesting that 3/4 of the price at Kiu food is charged to the ambiance rather than the food and service. My family chose Kiu for a celebratory dinner, having previously dined there for lunch a few months earlier. On this occasion, the restaurant was only half full, yet the service was notably poor and inefficient. For instance: There was a noticeable delay and lack of attention when we requested a fork for my son since he couldnt use chopsticks. Despite asking two waiters, I eventually had to approach another staff member directly. Two of our orders, Beef Tataki and Salmon Maki, were forgotten. After inquiring multiple times and waiting for over 20 minutes, we asked to cancel these dishes due to the lengthy delay. Surprisingly, they were then promptly served as they were ready in the kitchen but not delivered to our table. Additionally, the Beef Tataki had an unusual sour taste, and when I mentioned this while paying, my feedback was met with an eye roll and dismissive attitude. While I am usually generous with tips, reflecting the quality of food and service, I limited my tips to 10% on this occasion, feeling even this was generous under the circumstances. Unfortunately, this seemed to offend the staff, as evidenced by her reaction. I believe that for Kiu to truly embody the high-end dining experience it advertises, yet significant improvements in both food quality and service are required.

The thing I love most about this place is their attention to detail. Every step of the experience is well thought out and executed flawlessly. From the moment you walk in to the moment you leave you are truly treated like a valued guest. Servers, bartenders, and chefs alike stopped by to ensure that everything was up to my expectation. The only thing better than the service was the food, take a look at the effort that goes into the presentation of this sashimi. Even the straw used for their cocktails is the most optimal straw to use because it s perforated and no ice chips can come through it. Overall fantastic place which I will be enjoying time and time again.

I was disappointed at quality of sashimi let alone variety. For the price they charge, you will certainly feel you re short changed. The service of servers are good but the hostess I find very unprofessional!! Even a simple Udon dish tasted like store bought!! Overall, not a place to go back to!!

This restaurant is located on the second floor beside GoodLife fitness and Cineplex. Food was good. Prices are slightly higher and portions are slightly smaller but it was fresh and the quality was good. Service was also good.

Excellent service, great setup and atmosphere, perfect place to bring your date after or before a romantic movie night. However the taste of food is so so. Fairly expensive too considering the portion of food is not that big and the taste you get. One thing to add, the tempura and dessert are very good though.

Came here to celebrate an early Father s Day with my Family (Saturday evening) This would be my second time visiting this place. The first time, I had issues with certain orders not show up but I thought I stated to myself - why not try this place again. The food is great but the service is just terrible. Communication between the servers is not happening, since I had to inquire about orders multiple times. An example was, as simple as a fork, my dad doesn t use chop sticks. After waiting 2-3 mins, I inquired again but nothing. It took about 2-3 different servers to give me a fork. Another issue I had was having to inquire about a missing item in our order. I get this happens, as it s a busy day but it s simple service. We had 1 item missing on our order. We finished everything and we waited patiently. After again inquiring with 3 waiters, we finally got an conclusion that it was not order (waiting for nothing). Also there is no follow up on how we were doing or if we needed anything else - we would have to consistently flag someone down. Working in the same customer service industry there is definitely opportunities in training their people at this resturant. I think memorizing the order is an opportunity as well as training their staff to communicate with each other (staff) and communicate or check in with their customers. Unfortunately, I will no longer come here as this has happened during my first visit as well.

So happy to have a proper Japanese restaurant in Markham with a mix of excellent traditional and contemporary dishes. Most of the Japanese restaurants in the GTA aren t run by actual Japanese staff so the food and experience are often lacking. Not so at Kiu! We had a family celebration for my dad s 95th birthday and the food was fantastic and beautifully presented, the service was attentive, and the atmosphere was inviting and interesting. This is easily one of our favourite restaurants in the GTA so we ll be back often. Highly recommended! Wheelchair accessibility: Easily accessed by people with mobility issues.

Ordered the beef tataki, buttered poached lobster, grilled cuttlefish, 9 pc sashimi platter and the live lobster sashimi. Firstly, service was wonderful, however both the sashimi platters arrived well after the other dishes were finished, even though the place was relatively empty. Both the grilled cuttlefish and buttered lobster were tender and not overcooked and the tofu cream sauce that came with the latter was great, however there was still a hard skin on the outside of the lobster. The beef tataki was a nice blend of sweet and salty, with a nice acidic aftertaste. Sashimi was pretty ordinary just like any other youd get, few pieces of salmon, tuna, shrimp, scallop and sea bass. The lobster tail sashimi came with 2 bowls of soup, made from the rest of the body, which was a bit too salty and barely filled up to the middle of the bowl. In my opinion, its an alright place overall with good tasting food, however, you could probably find better value elsewhere. Still, I recommend that if youre interested, you should at least give it a try.

The food was average. We had a good meal, but a male waiter in the store confused us. He helped us refill the tea without smiling or speaking. He threw the teapot directly in front of us, as if he was angry with us. The five of us at the table were all dumbfounded, what? We didn t offend him! Why that attitude? This is advertised as a high-end restaurant, not a food stall. Later, the male waiter named Jackie kept helping us clear away the empty plates and ordered desserts for us. In contrast, Jackies service attitude and smile make people feel much more comfortable. This also caused me to not be impressed by the food, but the service attitude made me remember this restaurant. We, 4 adults and 1 child, spent a total of less than $500 Canadian dollars.

The food taste and quality is average, but what tainted the whole experience was the 2 male servers - after we finished our meals, the first male server walked over and asked you guys done with your food? (Yes, these were the exact words used when he was asking us), and about a couple minutes after our plates were taken away, another male server came to our table and asked you guys want anything else? I ll get your bill? We felt we were rushed to leave the restaurant when the restaurant was half empty. I would understand if the restaurant was full and if there was a line up for table but if there were still unoccupied tables and no line up, then why rush your customers? The hostess and the lady server who took our orders were friendly and courteous, but it s unfortunate how our experience with the 2 male servers at the end will prevent us from coming back.

Kiu sashimi set (30 pieces, 10 varieties, $128) was great! Had otoro and chu-toro, among others. I wish there was uni. The restaurant is on the expensive side.

December 22, 2023

Not our first time at this place, but this time it s the absolute worst experience of all. The food takes a long time to come, and the quality is not as good as before. Sushi rice seems to be old rice and the udon tastes very plain, like the chef didn t use salt at all. Also the drinks take a long time and it s such a rip off. The sangria in the picture is very small and it costs $19! The waiter tells us they are very busy but the restaurant isn t even half full. Even asking for some water takes a while and we have to ask them to leave the bottle so we don t have to wait again.

My family and I have been coming to eat here for the past few years. Lately weve been eating at Kiu multiple times a week. Every time the service is fantastic and the food is delicious. Weve also booked their private room a few times and love being able to have a quiet and relaxing space to eat and hangout with friends and family. Raijin who has been our waiter a couple of times has always been very friendly and provided great service. Highly recommend coming here for quality Japanese food if you are in Markham.

Brought the family to Kiu, normally visit there for lunch as they have a mid-high price menu but the lunches there are very good value for the food they serve. For dinner we order quite a bit for a family of 6, best I would say was the baked oysters, raw sashimi bowl. It is kids friendly with plastic forks and plates, bowls plus chopsticks. The servers were knowledgeable and super friendly.

Kiu is one of our favourite places to eat. The ambience is similar to a restaurant in downtown Toronto, within Markham. I think the food is priced accordingly to what you are getting - fresh sashimi, unique preparations, and a healthy amount of food. My daughter loved the ramen (they currently don t serve it as they re looking for a new ramen chef). The staff is attentive and caring. It s also a great place to meet friends and colleagues if you want something a bit more upscale than usual. Kiu will always be one of our favourites in Markham!

This is my second time in over 5 years. And I think for me that says a lot. Was really hoping to give it a second chance since so much time has passed, but unfortunately I don t have much to boast about. The food was mediocre at best, the salad pretty tasteless and you could tell the lotus chips were not freshly fried. The shrimp was pretty breaded and the oishi sushi was sub-par. Rice was a bit hard and the mayo just masked the flavours for 2 of the 4 sushi s. The takoyaki wasn t bad but there was only a tiny octopus piece inside. I did enjoy the agedashi tofu as it was nice and hot, made fresh. I tried to make reservations for 5:45pm, but when I went back to it 5 mins later, it was no longer available so I booked it for 6pm. Upon arriving at 6, the restaurant was literally empty, with maybe 3 other tables occupied. Strange why I couldn t book 5:45pm. If you are going to catch a movie later or hang out around Enterprise, it s an easy and convenient option. Perhaps I have higher expectations for Japanese food, and of course to each their own. But for me this didn t hit the mark.

Yesterday was our 10th WEDDING ANNIVERSARY! We arrived slightly earlier than our reservation. I can say that this place was remarkable. The service was amazing. Our Server was amazing. We were also treated with a complimentary drink (also bubbly was not my thing ... but it was unexpected). Food was tremendously fresh. Beef Tataki, Salmon Aburi Oshi, Sashimi (5 varieties), Monkfish Karaage, Baked Oyster, Sushi Don ... all very very fresh. Presentation was great. All in all ... it was just a perfect amount of food and a perfect night out for a special night.

Food is a solid 3.5 but the service and atmosphere bumped this up to a 4 for me. I found the set menu for two to be the best deal for $95. This includes sashimi, choice of oshizushi, choice of udon, choice of main, side salad and choice of ice cream. The stand outs were the sashimi and udon for me. Considering some AYCE sushi places now charge $50 per person, Id rather come here and have better quality food, service and atmosphere for a little more. Jacky and Brian were our servers and they did a great job with our large group. We brought in a cake and they put a candle and sparkler on it and offered to cut it for us. Very patient and friendly overall. Online reservation for a large group was very easy and they do take note of all the info you give them. They were able to accommodate me pushing back the dinner by an hour, too. Auto gratuity is 18%. Would recommend coming back for a large group celebration.

Who knew that in Markham on Enterprise Blvd, I would find an absolute gem of a Japanese restaurant with the freshest Sashimi and most delectable cocktails. I know fresh sashimi when I taste it and I know an outstanding Negroni when I sip one and on both these counts this restaurant has hit all the right notes. The service is good and not overtly familiar as you get in some restaurants. It was not contrived. Just attentive enough. They were a bit slow on the drinks but patience was a virtue because when the cocktails did arrive, it was a just worthwhile. Its expensive but you get what you pay for.....and I will for certain be heading back for another round of cocktails and sashimi at this place.
