The Owl of Minerva in Markham

Ordered Bulgogi and Japchae. Worst Ive had as it was so bland. Had to pay 40$ for both and did not even finish half of it

We ordered grill beef ribs, ginseng chicken soup and potato pork soup. The food is average, but the price is expensive. Not enough staff to serve customers, asked for checking out several times.

This place is definitely a ripoff. 15 dollars for a small bowl of instant noodles..Do not come!!! will never come back. Every dish is almost just half the amount of other locations usually offer

This is by far the best Owl of Minerva in the GTA. Excellent, speedy service. Food is delicious and always hot. I ve been a regular here forever. Well worth the trip

Great food and service! Awesome staff. We dont mind giving a tip but I like how they dont push customers to provide a tip like most places right now. Will be a returning customer for sure.

Food was good, not a huge selection 4 star for that, the place was nice, clean and the staff were very happy and helpful.

Been 2 different places mississauga and Markham and never fails... food is amazing and servers are awesome.

Visited during the week. We have been to other locations, so we knew what to expect. Service is friendly and efficient. Downside is how tight it felt in there in terms of the table/seating. Definitely outdated and might benefit froma makeover but aside from that food was good. Nothing spectacular but very filling and id say good value. I ordered the kamjatang with beef dumplings and my husband ordered the original. overall, OK, if im feeling for no fuss korean food and im within the area, I would probably visit again.

Average Korean franchise restaurant. Decent portions for the price. There are better Korean restaurants offering more selection, such as Jeonjuhyang. The roof was leaking due to rain, and the waitresses automatically gave us another table so we wouldnt get wet.

The staff was friendly and the food was satisfied but 3 Banchans?!? All the places I go to have at least 5 ... a franchise place should have a standard. I am very disappointed.

I dont think anything on their menu is good. Also, anything listed as spicy is barely spicy for even the average person. There are missing side dishes that are available at other Korean restaurants like the potatoes and glass noodles. Someone with a recipe and no cooking experience can probably make something better on their first attempt.

Dolsot BiBimBap for take out. It was cold when I ate. I work in the same plaza, only took me 5 minutes to walked back to my place. No excuse accepted. Also the potion is way too small compare to dine in.

Great place for korean food, I always go to any Owl of Minerva locations when I m craving korean food. The side dishes are great. The tofu soup is very filling with a lot of toppings. Great taste and great value

Honestly it is not even worth giving one star. Food is mild and old. I ordered pork bone soup since they had one page full of different types of pork bone soup. I thought they were proud of their food (or maybe they changed their chef?). The meat wasn t soft at all it was hard to chew. The taste of the soup was mild it didn t satisfied my expectation. I thought I could make better than that. I also ordered Tteokbbokki and the rice cake was old and was cracked. It was not at all spicy like we ordered. The worst part was when we didn t give the tip because the food didn t satisfy our expectations, the boss chased us asking, hey, you didn t tip us . So What? We avoided fight by just saying sorry and left. We visited to get good food, but we didn t. We just ate because we didn t like wasting ingredients that were put in to make this food. It was the worst. Remember this was the head store of The owl of minerva.

We like going here because this place opens early. We always go before the lunch rush and service and food is great.

I do not recommend this restaurant. The prices had gone up, and the food quality had gone down. I ordered a kalbi tang and I was shocked that it only came with two pieces of meat. And the soup tasted like knorr chicken powder. Definitely not worth $20+

Went for dinner on a Friday evening. It was fairly empty when we went but became quite busy over the evening. Food was great. I had the pork bone soup, my partner ordered the chicken bulgogi which he thoroughly enjoyed. Our server was an elderly lady who was very nice and friendly. Our friends could speak Korean so our server was thoroughly amused and excited about that. Overall good experience, just the service was a bit slow.

This place is trash.. Never seen a place fall off as hard as this.. So many better places in Markham now at better value

My partner and I were loudly scoffed at by the server when we ordered one serving of tteokbokki to share (we just wanted a late night snack). We were also questioned about our tip, and we noticed they did the same to another table where a few high school students were dining as well.

$17+tax for a japchae that had mostly glass noodles and only a handful of tiny pieces of beef and some veggies. Pork bone soup and bibimbap were ok but portion was smaller than before and definitely not worth the price. I can understand the price increase but cannot accept price increase and a decline in quality. $65 for the 3 dishes above with tax and tips.

Service was decent but food was mediocre portion size is appalling for what is paid.

Moderate quality Korean restaurant but the prices are a bit high for the quality of the food. Ordered Gamjatang and it only come with one side dish (kimchi) while other Korean restaurants usually provide 2-3 side dishes. The Gamjaftang itself taste ok; not the best I have eaten but nor the worst.

The Scarborough branch is always busy whenever we pass by it years before the pandemic, so we tried this branch. The portions were small, they were stingy on the sidings despite us ordering 4 dishes, bland taste, overpriced (per dish is $15 and up), and they required us to leave 10% gratuity. Saving grace was the pork bone soup. No wonder this place rarely has customers. Upon checking the reviews on their other branches, seems Owl of Minervas food quality and service are not like the good old days anymore.

The $18.99 seafood pancake barely has NO SEAFOOD! It was just a ultra THIN veggie pizza without cheese. No Korean restaurants serve seafood pancake like this. I didn t give one star because the pork bone soup was okay.

Always my go-to standard gamjatang place. This location offers other options to pair with your soup such as glass noodles, beef dumplings or rice cakes. Food is always good quality at decent price. Service is good. Just that when they close at 10pm and you come in after 9pm they will make sure they let you know that theyre closing at 10pm so please leave by 9:50pm. Happened multiple times. And they turn away customers after 9:30pm because kitchen has already closed and been cleaned.

The service is so bad and rude. I can t believe how they still get business?

Great place for Korean food. Located in the first Markham place plaza. Friendly staff. Pretty chandelier. Good selection of dishes. Tasty Kalbi. Yummy pork bone soup. Love the small side dishes they offer as well. If you enjoy Korean cuisine, would definitely recommend giving this place a try.

I ordered the rice cake. It was overpriced, the portion was small and flavour was meh. Also, did not get any side dishes

Delicious Pork bone hotpot fair price

Love coming here for the famous Pork Bone Soup. I ve had Pork Bone Soup at other restaurants, but the Owl always has the best one - ESPECIALLY this location. Broth is full of flavour, rich and hearty. I got mine spicy and the spice level is perfect. Pairs well with the Kimchi and radish. I miss the old seaweed appetizer - that one was my favourite.

Ordered over the phone right before they closed at 9 pm.. the lady who picked up the phone was nice enough to ask the kitchen if they still had time to make an order.. went and picked up my food in ten minutes.. it was delicious..will be visiting again. Would have taken a picture of the meal..but I already finished it.. PS thank you to the cook/chef who took the time to make the meal..I know that most people do not thank the kitchen..so I personally wanted to make sure to mention that.

The pork bone and potato soup is the best among the chain stores in Toronto, and the price/performance ratio is also the highest. All other dishes are not recommended.

Good average korean food in the Markham area. Recommend the pork bone soup because thats their best seller and they give 3-4 pieces of pork bones that have a good chunk of meat on them. Also comes with rice and of course you have the side dishes. Service was average, but quick to serve out food. Took off a star because they gotta cut down on the msg. I come home always extra thirsty.

Absolutely LOVE this place!! My husband and I love to make this our date night restaurant! We always order the Soondubu (one dumpling and seafood), you get a lot of food for the price and we always leave stuffed! The employees are always helpful and kind! I love how the food always comes out super hot!

I originally wanted to order their YukGaeJang but was told they didn t have it so I decided on their Beef Bone Soup and it was excellent! Nice amount of spice, lots of meat.

My favourite go-to-place for pork bone soup. So delicious and generous portions. Highly recommend!

Good food, inexpensive, good portion. The gamjatang (pork bone soup) is my fav. A big one ($28.99) can feed for 2-3 people (of course not hungry men ) Noodle is extra ($4.00).

Really bad place. Food quality is bad, portion is really sad, service horrible. Stay away. Yonge location gives you way more and it s not flavourless (watery). My tough bulgogi was basically onions and water. Barely any meat and barely any noodles. Soup wasn t even full either, I got this dish halfway. I took it apart bc I couldn t believe how small the portion was and I also asked the waitress. She just said different amount and taste every place . What!?!? Owl of Minerva is typically my favourite place , but the Yonge location is the best. This location is really really bad. Total cost after tax was $18.07. Instant noodles has a larger serving than this!

The worst experience i have ever have with owl Korean food. Me and my bf ordered pork soup and tofu dumpling soup. We start to diarrhoea since 20 min after we finish our dinner till now. But the service good, people are nice. I love korean food though,Just dont know what happened to the food.

The food is always hot and fresh. Recommended their kamjatang! You can get it in mild, reg or extra spicy. If you can handle spice I recommend their extra spicy. They give you side dishes and this varies with each visit but you normally get Kimchi with your meal.

Tried pork bone soup for the first time. Its delicious, pork just falls apart and melt in your mouth. They have other Korean dishes which we found tasty also. Reasonably priced. This is a place you visit for the quality of foods, not the ambiance (ignore other negative reviews on staff....these are the people who always complain anyway)

I visit here many times, today too, cuz this restaurant is my favourite one. You MUST TRY their tasty pork bone soup. Great service(especially a pink coloured hair waitress, thanks!) and quick response are the best! I m gonna stop by this weekend too!!

Great korean soup!!

What can I say, it is lovely here as always. The tteokbokki was really good as it tasted very clean with more red pepper flakes rather than the conventional more paste. Anyway, the pork bone soup was really good as it always is :) This location is really nice compared to the other ones as there is abundant parking space.

Food quality is still acceptable. However, the typical Korean side dishes have gone down in number and quantity.

Felt very cramped, like the people beside us can hear every word we were saying. Not the restaurants fault, but I realized Im not a huge fan of Gamjatang. Will definitely order something else on my next visit.

I m a person of habit, so if I find a restaurant with a food I really like, I keep coming back to it! Whenever we are Toronto, this is the first restaurant we dine particularly the kamjatang!!!! And we would come back several times during our stay. I also love their side dishes especially the cucumber. Lively and great staff! Great value for money too! So far we have not been disappointed.

The food is typical, not special. The side dishes has decreased in quality and quantity. The main reason I rated them as 2 stars is because the service is atrocious!

Had my usual quite bite on a Friday night. Service is good. Food is served quickly! Portion is fair. For someone who cannot take strong spicy food, the menu offers options for non spicy or mild spicy food options which is great!

Food: Love the food. Strong taste, a bit too much oil sometimes, but a lot of the times it seems to be fine. Has a very homey feel to it; as if the whole place is served by mothers and they make food for you. Service: My friend had a pretty bad nosebleed at some point and they were really caring. They showed full concern on their faces and helped as much as possible to make sure that my friend was okay. They even gave us a wet towel and told us how to use it to help the nosebleed. It literally felt like they were our moms. Conclusion: Get the pork bone soup.

Came here on a Saturday night at 9:30PM to find that they were closed. Sign in the door stated it was supposed to be closed at 11PM, google had said 10:30PM. Not sure had happened.
