The Thandur Restaurant in Markham

We ordered butter chicken, tandoori chicken, and lamp curry. None of it tasted good. The naans are not made in the kitchen, but they just heat the ones you get at grocery stores. The masala on tandoori chicken was bland, and the curries felt heavy because of the canola oils they used. Wont recommend this place.

I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough! We had a party of almost thirty people and Thandur not only accommodated us but provided the absolute best service and an incredible food selection. Thank you for making our family reunion/pre-wedding a flawless night! The Chicken 65 was the best I ve had at any restaurant! Make sure to finish your meal with Masala coffee!

The food is always fresh and tastes clean. Portion sizes are generous and staff do well to ensure customer satisfaction. Overall you get a great dining experience on a budget! I ve been back a handful of times since this review and it hasn t been as good. They ve gotten my order wrong on multiple occasions too.

I love the biriyani from this hotel. As an indian while comparing rest of the restaurant i prefer Thandur. Quality and quantity of the food is top notch, and the price of the food is reasonable while comparing others

Just had a delicious meal at this restaurant. I ordered the Butter Chicken with Naan. My wife ordered curry chicken with Naan. Service from Haran was exceptional. Will definitely be going back.

Picture this: you call two weeks ahead and make a reservation for 10+ people on Mother s Day. The day of, you get a call half hour beforehand to confirm. You show up with full group (including 3 moms) only to find out that HALF the menu is sold out ! There s only one burnt-out host running around seating, taking orders, and serving. It took an hour for us to find out a party the previous day cleaned out Thandur s inventory, and clearly management didn t get around to restocking. Anything positive I might have to say about this restaurant was completely obliterated by our experience. Hoping no one else experiences Mother s Day like this.

We had a wonderful lunch experience at Thandoor today! The fusion cuisine, blending Sri Lankan, Indian, and Italian flavors, was delicious. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the service was top-notch. Our host, Haran, went above and beyond to ensure we felt welcome and well taken care of. His commitment to customer service truly shines through. We cant wait to come back and try more of their dishes!

Found a piece of hair in my order, absolutely disgusting!! Im tired of this place, last time I ordered they gave me a completely different dish and this time I receive the dish in a smaller portion and hair!!! Theres literally no hope for this place.

Horrible food! Menu is very weak Neither North Indian nor South Indian! 3 options for veg curry one paneer which tasted like rubber. Their spinach daal was watery served with rice not worth $14 But two dishes costed $35 which is a waste of money. Don t recommend this place to anyone. They said they have mango lassi but only half glass, so they served mango milkshake. Bad customer service and owner himself is the one who manages it.

I Came here for lunch for the first time, because I saw the previous reviews and thought I d give it a try. On a personal note, I had been fasting for 36 hours, and was really really looking forward to having some good authentic Indian food. I quickly realized, this is not the place you want to go to if you want to have authentic North Indian food. This is truly a fusion restaurant, catering to the masses. I asked for spicy for my butter chicken, and I got something that was less than medium spice. I asked for some onions on the side, and some pickles (Achar), and the server said they don t have any. I asked for green chilies, and I got a couple of marinated banana peppers. And then I asked for green chillies again, and I got one of those fatter chillies that have no heat. When I explained to the server that I m looking for Thai green chilies, which is what all Indian restaurant serve, and she said they don t have any. They also don t use a tandoor to bake their Naan. I was thinking of giving this place a 2.5 stars, but the place is nicely kept, and the server was nice and pleasant, so I decided to go with three stars.

This restaurant is suitable for family, many choices for food and good taste. We ordered salmon, beef, chicken and Garlic butter flavor Naan all served with their homemade special curry. The rose flavor ice cream milk shake and cheese creamy dessert are recommended

I had a birthday party for my son with 26 guests. They created a menu that fit our budget and the food was amazing! Dietary restrictions: Vegetarian and Halal options. Parking: Plenty of parking in the plaza and behind.

I have been to Thandur few times and food is fantastic. Today I got their lunch special Veg Biryani and also got Quarter chicken with rice. Very affordable and large portions. Food was amazing too with lots of flavors to it. The gentleman who helped me at the location was quite nice, also served me complimentary soup. Great work to all who work here and I wish you the best!

Went here today for the $7 plus taxes lunch special. Really good quality food & service. Very good portions too. Best value in thus area. Will come here often for lunch take out and will try the $20 buffet on Sundays at 10am to 2pm. Staff is very nice & friendly. Best to order on the phone if you dont want to wait 15-30 mins for the food! The food is Indian fusion so it does not have strong spicy taste and smell like typical traditional Indian which is what I like. I am not a fan of regular Indian food so I like how this place is mixed fusion = Indian & western food mixed! :)

I regularly passed by this restaurant so today I decided to order take out. My husband got a wrap which he enjoyed very much; however, I ordered 2 quarter chicken entrees. Was thoroughly disappointed for the price I paid. Got two small boxes with sad looking chicken and bland rice and on the side, very small containers of mango salad and Thandur sauce which was so bland I had to add chilli sauce. Helpings were very minimal compared to the price of $13 each for the chicken quarter dinners.

Ordered the BOGO on UE. Portions were plentiful and food was tasty. Definitely looking forward to trying their buffet. Update: Unfortunately the buffet was a super let down, and I feel like I have to adjust my review. The flyer I got with my UE talked about bacon, sausage, eggs, omlettes, etc. There was none of that. Unfortunately this place is so small, they probably cant seat more than 10 people at a time. A location with such little seating should not be attempting a buffet, and should not be advertising items that are not even available. I am pretty sure whatever food there was ended up going to waste as we were the only 2 people in the restaurant. Ended up paying $35 for some cold french toast, and some stale rice. There was an omlette station but no one was available to make the omelette. I would give the brunch 1 star and my take out 5 stars. I highly advise NOT going here for the buffet, but I would recommend their actual food as that was actually impressive.

Came here today to celebrate Valentines Day with the missus. Ordered the mutton biryani and the butter chicken pasta. The serving sizes for each dish are enormous.. the waitress said each could feed two and she wasn t kidding. The dishes were great. My wife who doesn t like chicken even took my pasta and wouldn t give it back it was that good. Excellent taste and value.. friendly service and comfortable seating. Would definitely come back and absolutely recommend.

Do not eat here if you are vegetarian. Soup was served cold. Appetizer lukewarm. Spinach daal tasted only of tap water. Naan smelled and tasted like kabob. There is a banquet hall connected to this making lots of noise. I considered sending my food back but was certain nothing better would come out. I left no tip which is not my style. 0 stars if I could.

Came here because of the high rating. They serve us cold soup and appetizer. This is probably the worst restaurant I ve been to. Served watery Daal, literally just boiled lentils and they throw some spinach in with no seasoning at all.

Fantastic butter chicken! Garlic naan tastes great too. The mango lassi is okay, I asked them to make it sweeter after initially tasting it because it was sour. They made it sweeter but it still had sour under tones. Still liked it. Staff is friendly as well

So the family and I wanted to try out The Thandur because we saw signage outside that they had a BRUNCH BUFFET - to our delight, it had changed to an ALL YOU CAN EAT on Sunday mornings from 9am to 2pm - their *entire* menu was available for just $19.99! This place has some of the *best* chicken Ive ever had, the staff were super friendly, and you borderline felt like you were at relatives restaurant with the way they were taking care of you! Highly recommend!

Ordered the butter chicken bowl, tasted good but the portions are small as it only came with about 12 small cubes of chicken and a small bowl of rice. For the price of a dinner they give snack size portions.

The food was delicious. We shared some of the chicken and biryani. The Naan was so buttery and soft. We will be back again soon.

With a rare weekday off from work, I found myself in Markham around lunch time so it was a good opportunity to explore restaurants that were unfamiliar to me. This search brought me to The Thandur, an Indian restaurant located at Markham Rd. and Bur Oak Ave. Their dining room was nicely decorated, with intimate lighting. Nice looking place. My friend and I ordered their Mutton Biriyani and their house special Thandur Chicken with naan. It didnt take long for the food to arrive and it looked good! Both servings were quite generous. The mutton biryani was very flavourful. It was served with a couple of sauces and pickled peppers.Not bad at all. The Thandur chicken, similar to tandoori chicken, was served with mango salad, naan, and a dipping sauce. It was nicely cooked and had a nice flavour. Oddly, we were the only customers there during our entire visit - no takeout orders, no phone calls, nothing. They offer weekday lunch specials for only $10.00 (+ tax) but only for takeout. Maybe next time...

Today was my first time eating at The Thandur. The only way I can describe my experience is when a child is so happy their feet begin to swing under the table out of pure joy! LOL! THE FOOD IS DELICIOUS! I had the Butter Chicken Pasta. The portion was so huge! I couldnt finish it so I get to enjoy the rest tomorrow. This was a very fordable lunch and great atmosphere. I plan to go back very soon and bring along some friends. Parking: Its in a plaza so free parking is available.

I ordered the thandur poutine for takeout. It s Costco fries which I loved! Decent amount of sauce and cheese curds with raw onions. Only thing is, the sauce tasted like tomato more than anything. Wished the sauce tasted more like butter chicken sauce or something other than tomato sauce.

My fiance and I ordered takout- our usually paneer butter masala but also tried the chicken biriyani for the first time and we both give it a 10/10. It was so tasty. The paneer was also delicious as usual. This is one of our favourite Indian restaurants which we regularly order from (both takeout and dine-in).

Cant go wrong with the Tandoori chicken, it is amazing. Yesterday we tried the Steaks, and it was very delicious, sauteed veggies & salad are just great. I came to this place to have biriyani which I havent had in a while. I was sorely disappointed when the biriyani came out at room temperature. The egg was also cold in the centre. Also Im not sure if people like it this way but my biriyani was a little sauce-y and wet which was unpleasant. The service was quick, kind, and helpful however, and the place itself is very comfortable to dine in. I wish I could give more stars but I just didnt like the biriyani...

I ordered 5 dishes from here a few days ago for my family and all of them were either terrible or mediocre. The place is advertised as Indian Fusion Food ... gone to the next level. Its definitely gone to a level beyond palatable. The menu and taste is more like someone heard of Indian food once and decided they could improve it. I would recommend going to a different restaurant all together, I would not be eating here again.

We spent 75 bucks here as a family and the food was fresh! I got the highlighted butter chicken pasta and it was made right. Could definitely taste the grill taste off the meat. Overall a good joint to try out close to the station.

A very cute and beautiful restaurant. The menu is extremely tasty. You gotta try their mango lassi. Affordable prices, well worth the purchase.

First time visiting. I arrived to pick up my order and it wasnt even started yet. They made it quickly but the quality suffered. Veggies were barely cooked and the butter chicken tasted like tomato sauce on a precooked frozen chicken breast.

The service was amazing. We reached 30mins prior to closing, yet they were more than willing to serve at their best, with a big smile and helping hands. We stayed pretty late and enjoyed several delicious dishes. Would I go there, you bet! If a picture is worth a thousand words, you should go try a few dishes and see how many words your taste buds say.

The Thandur is a great hidden local spot for very tasty Indian food as well as fusion Indian food. Their butter chicken pasta is a top choice dish for me. Cant get enough of it! Their service is also top tier. Very helpful, friendly, and courteous. The interior is also small but quaint and cozy. Decent amount of free parking out front. Also, literally across the street from the Mount Joy GO station. Great overall restaurant. Parking: Adjacent to Mount Joy GO Station.

Went for dine-in with my family along with baby. They had a high chair available and service was definitely amazing. We enjoyed their mango salad, chicken biryani, butter chicken, and fried eggplant. Oct 13-placed order online on their website for pickup. Showed up and was told they were having issues with their website and orders werent received. Checked my credit card on mobile and saw a pending transaction and thought it would drop off. Ended up dining in at the restaurant. Couple days later saw that the charge for the website order went through. Visited restaurant seeking a refund and spoke to the manager who told me they would investigate. Took my name, number and email. Followed up multiple times by phone and was told someone would call me back and never did. Nov 7-Ended up getting the money credited back from my bank.

Yesterday I bought biriyani from there , and it was worst food i ever had, too oily and the chicken was too bad felt a bad smell from it . Hope its because it was too old. I won t recommend anyone to this restaurant. Kindly choose other good restaurant if you value your health.

The service is great! The food is amazing! And price is very reasonable. We were surprised how big the portion is. Even my teenage boys felt full so we don t have to order the second plate like what we usually do at other restaurants. We have highly recommended this restaurant to my friends who then recommended to their friends.

We had a very pleasant experience in this restaurant. Food was stunning and the service was great. They were also kind enough to give us dessert and appetisers on the house - so rare these days! Convenient location right next to Mount Joy Go. Can t wait to bring my parents and siblings here when they come to visit. High recommended.

My go to dish is the thandur chicken skillet. Some delicious fusion, indian cuisine and my must eat in markham. The owner is always friendly and has some of the best service. In the photo is the Thandur Chicken Skillet with half rice and half fries which is a special request I asked for. I also get the mango shake everytime even though it is a little expensive because I want to support this restaurant for its amazing dishes and services! The shake is also just delicious as well.

I was searching for Authentic Butter Chicken Restaurants and I came across this restaurant in Markham. I tried the Butter Chicken Bowl with Salad. This is the first time trying Butter Chicken and I can say I love the overally taste and mixture with the Rice. The Butter Chicken is flavorful with abit of a kick and mixing with the Rice makes it much better. I truly love this restaurant and will return to try the Butter Chicken again because it was the best butter chicken I tried. For anybody near this area in Markham it is a must.

Worst experience we ve had. Went into the restaurant and we literally waited 45 mins for appetizers and then more then an hour for the main course after the apps. We ordered takeout with our main course and after eating, waited another 30 mins for it. Definitely won t be back.

We ordered the calamari and chicken satay. Our expectation was this would be a Thandoor (oven based) dish flavour, however, to our surprise it s was the regular fried calamari and some pieces of chicken. Below par in taste, quality and quantity. There are several better options in Richmond hill and Scarborough. This maybe an option for folks who are getting introduced to Indian food, but by no means a good option for someone who eats Indian food regularly (and expects a certain level of flavour).

I ordered the double leg thandur chicken with naan. The naan was super fresh, they even provided a curry for the naan to be dipped in. The chicken smelled amazing, but I found it a little dry and under seasoned. Customer service was really good though. I had take out, perhaps it would have been different if I ate in. The mango lassi was also really refreshing with my meal. I wish the chicken came with a side of basmati rice and naan as the chicken seemed to be a bit bare.

This is the most sad so called Indian food outlet ever seen. They literally dint have anything on the menu. And then the chef is really stupid. Took them 20 mins to tell us that what we ordered will take another 30 minutes. Had to walk out. First indian joint in Canada that does not have Mango Lassi. And it is there in bold prints on the menu. You guys are literally shaming us. STOP.

Ordered 2 dishes including the butter chicken, both were tasty however the butter chicken had 5 small pieces of chicken which was very disappointing considering each dish was close to 15$, the other portion was good. Called to notify them when I got home and was promised a call back but no one ever did, quite disappointed as I was looking forward to trying this place.

Was really excited to try this place and though it was decent, it wasn t anything to write home about. The rice dishes seemed like too much was happening; I wish they were simpler in nature since the potential for it to be perfect was there. The actual meat dishes were good - the chilli chicken with the chow mein was a hit and I liked the grill on the chicken leg served with the biriyani. Friendly customer service and the interior seemed pretty cool too! Definitely worth a visit if you re in the Mount Joy/Bur Oak area in Markham.

Delicious delicious food. We ordered the Thandur dark chicken meat with naan bread and we ordered mutton curry. They were sooo delicious and may I add, the food isnt overly expensive either? Its very affordable. I definitely recommend it and I will be returning. After looking at their interesting menu, we decided to visit this place, only to realize it was in part of Markham I never knew existed. Nice restaurant with a small patio. Portion sizes were huge for the price charged. The Tandoori chicken was bit under seasoned, but all the other items were super tasty. They have a very good selection (and prices) for breakfast and lunch too. Worth a try if you are in the area.

Our usual Indian restaurant was closed, so we decide to try a new place that seemed highly rated. Major disappointment with our take out experience last night. We ordered the Butter Chicken Bowl, Chickpea Curry, Chicken Biryani, and Garlic Naan. I was told it would take 25-30 mins to prepare the order, but ended up waiting another 10 mins when I arrived. The restaurant didnt seem very busy and only had 1 other table dining in. The Butter Chicken Bowl was just really bad. When we first opened the container, it looked a bit strange. At first, it seemed like there were 2 large pieces of chicken, but it was actually smaller pieces are clumped together. The chicken texture seemed very strange as well. It had a mushy chew and seemed to have a watery feel to it. Maybe it was previously frozen and defrosted to-order? I ended up throwing all of it out after the 1st couple bites. Chickpea Curry was also not great with no flavour. The chickpeas were basically in a bowl of watery yellow liquid that did not resemble anything like a curry. The Chicken Biryani was also not as expected. It was basically a rice dish with a quarter chicken on top with an over-cooked boiled egg on the side. On the plus side, this was probably the only dish that was mostly edible. Garlic Naan was edible, but didnt seem fresh and tasted like it was maybe previously frozen? Overall, huge disappointment!

The chicken that came with a dipping sauce was delicious and moist. It came with mango salad. Price for a filling meal was reasonable.

Disclaimer: this is not a review about Indian food. There are so many reviews giving 5 stars and praising how good they make Indian food. I Agree! But what everyone fails to make a point is that the food is amazing regardless if it s Indian or not! This is flavourful, delicious, filling, food. Period. Hungry? Come here! Not craving Indian food but want good food for a value? Come here! Want Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, American south food? Doesn t matter come here! I got the half chicken entree and the chicken biryani. And WOW was that chicken amazing! How often have you had a rotisserie style chicken and the breast is bone dry that can only be resuscitated by drowning it in gravy? Not here! That chicken breast was incredibly juicy and if the white meat was moist you know for sure dark meat was gonna be a banger! Entree comes with mango salad, naan, and rice. And oh! Butter chicken gravy, not that you need it! Unless you want to super charge your one way ticket to flavour town that you re already on! So whether you re a season veteran of south Asian cuisine or a complete newcomer like me, you know good food when you taste it. What s so great about this place is it makes food approachable because it s food done right.

Been wanting to come here for so long and got the chance to awhile back. Had ordered an item that was taken off the menu, but they said they could make it for me, which was the stuffed shrimp burger and ordered a fusion style poutine alongside a sizzling plate with a base of fries. Everything was so amazing and the burger was pure definition of fusion! The poutines were nicely loaded and portion sizes may look small, but you definitely will have trouble finishing the items! The food is okay, but its just not worth it. With tax, $18 for a fairly small portion of butter chicken and a small container of rice. It used to come with 2 garlic naan and a large portion of rice, but that changed. So now for $18, you get about 8-10 cubes of chicken, sauce, and baby portion of rice. No thanks.

We kept driving by this restaurant and always said we should stop in and try it. Im so happy we finally did because it was absolutely delicious! Totally enjoyed the curry bowl and the amazing butter chicken pasta and the naan was just perfect. Really a hidden gem! Cant wait to order again!

I don t know why this rate so high but it totally not deserve it. Ridiculous expensive food taste not good. They only serve a little with such a high price. Will not go anymore.

Writing this from my bed because my stomach hurts so much after getting pretty much food poisoning from this place yesterday. While the food was flavorful, I really question the cleanliness because when I was served my mango lassi, the cup was sticky, When I asked for a to go cup, they handed me a dirty cup with sticky stuff inside as well and I had to as for a clean one, and now I m having stomach problems. The service was extremely slow even though there was only one other party in the restaurant. My party was ignored when we waved the servers down multiple times because they just kept checking in on the other table. Like I get it, they are an Indian family enjoying your Indian food, and while we aren t the same ethnicity, we also deserve attentiveness. Three of us ordered the butter chicken bowl which is supposed to come with rice but they gave us naan even though they didn t ask if we wanted to change it, and one of the three dishes had 4 pieces of naan while the others only got 2. Anyway. It was just really cringe how we were treated to be honest. Like we were really unimportant and invisible to the point where they could neglect our requests, give us dirty containers and dishes, have us ask three times for the check, gave and charged us for an extra drink, and literally just didn t bother to make sure things were correct and good for our experience. Plus it was really expensive for what it was. I would really never come here again and definitely would not recommend. The terrible service left a bad taste in my mouth even if the food was decent.

The mango salad was one of the largest portions weve ever had, the butter chicken pasta was unique fresh and El Dante, the beef Biryani on Banana Leaf with boiled egg anf peppers was quite the best, finally the Mutton Kottu was really fresh and made to perfection.. portion size made it a very good value proposition.. the MEAT is never frozen as their sign says.. this makes the dish standout..will order catering this Sunday!

Amazing food made by friendly, hospitable people. My household of three greatly enjoyed their curry bowl, kothu roti, and biryani. The portion sizes are generous and enough for two meals for the three of us. Chicken tastes fresh, and the spice mix was just right. Very glad to have discovered this place, and will definitely get dinner from them again!

We had a wonderful time at the Thandur. The food tasted amazing, so fresh and no msg which is very good. Also, they have very good customer service. I will definitely go back.

Love the brunch buffet... everything was so beautiful...place was beautiful decorated and organized. specially liked....thanduri chicken, butter chicken bowl, Live waffles...and omelettes and so many!!!! Worth to give a try ! The person working on the stations was very kind and smart.

Had the most amazing brunch ever at their buffet. I loved the custom omelettes and the butter chicken, very friendly staff.

We were looking forward to trying The Thanur because of the great reviews, but it was disappointing. The rice was stale (hard) and the naan was small and soggy. The butter chicken and butter paneer had some good flavour but several chicken pieces had small bones in them. The mango lassi was thin and flavourless.

We used to order food from this Restaurant for more than a year. Food was tasty and hot. Recently we ordered food, it s not good at all like before. We ordered basmati rice and they gave us some biriyani rice, which was not at all good and look like it cooked long back. Other dishes also not tasty as before. Will not order again from this restaurant
