Ding Tai Fung in Markham

Dim sum tastes authentic flavour. But I do not like one dish which name is misleading beware of that - Yin Si Juan because it is plain steamed bun without anything inside.

I bought takeaway dishes costing over $120 and turned out only few small boxes of less-than-halfly filled food. Requested refund immediately and I will not go back anymore.

Gross, never again. All the dishes we ordered were extremely oily, especially the xiaolongbao. This does not taste anything close to the what I ve had before at another ding tai Fung in Taiwan.

There was no table for 3 people, but there were multiple empty tables and no lineup I was told that if I can eat fast, then I can have a bigger table

We ordered the soup dumplings, spicy chicken with peanuts, stir fried noodles with shrimp, bamboo shoots and fried squid tentacles. The service was quite quick and my favourite dish was the spicy chicken with peanuts. The server was very attentive and always made sure to refill our tea. I do think that the restaurant needs more dim sum options than the limited selection available.

The portions per plate at this restaurant are too small and expensive, not worth it.

First time here and it was pretty busy. Their food was really good. We order mini soup dumplings (which we realized maybe we should have gotten the regular order because the mini doesn t come with much soup at all), a pork dish, a beef dish and bokchoy!

The service was very poor and overpriced. I would not recommend it. The server was extremely rude!

Truly authentic Shanghai / Chinese cuisine prepared by excellent chefs and served by very capable staff. Parking: It is a big Asian shopping mall with plenty of parking. Except the place was really busy. We had to wait about 3 minutes for a spot.

I didnt feel so good this time. The drunken chicken was not very tasty, and the other items were not very tasty either. I dont know why they cant maintain the standard. The famous restaurants are very poor.

I went on a weekday at around 3:30pm for late lunch, it was easy to find a space at the parking lot, and the restaurant was pretty empty, food came piping hot quickly, we loved the quality of the food, servers were friendly and polite, environment was clean (actually very good for a 25 year old business), we paid $80 for a light lunch for 3 people (5 items), it was a little bit pricey but it was worth the money.

Food court quality with high end restaurant price. I don t understand why some people think this place is good.

Very unpalatable Xiaolongbao, weird looking

Is it about xiaolongbao? Is Taiwanese skin thinner? less ginger The noodle taste is different from Taiwan. When I thought of the noodles, I came up with the noodles.

This is not the authentic din tai fung in Taiwan, not the famous one people love. It s a copy but it s good not amazing tho

FAKE and VERY poor Rip-off of the REAL Ding Tai Feng in Taiwan (which I ve been to several times). Walked into this one and immediately noticed something was off. Clearing tables while crashing dishes loudly, not sparkling clean, and sub-par service I could probably tolerate but not the food and certainly not at real-food prices. Lesson learned. Give this one a hard pass.

Arguably the best dumpling restaurant in Toronto. Usually very busy. They have the second restaurant opened in Scarborough with bigger size. Good quality food. In my recent visit in July 2024, the quality of food is not as good as before.

At 6pm on July 26th, 7 of the 12 xiaolongbaos in two drawers had broken skins and leaked juice, and they leaked completely. Can we come to this place again?

Amazing spicy dumplings!!

I feel like Ive been cheated. Its not worth the money. Except for the xiaolongbao, the quality of the food is not even up to the mid-range level in Toronto. The price is 1.5-2 times that of ordinary restaurants. It turns out that this restaurant is a fake Din Tai Fung, using someone else s name.

I think by now, everyone knows that this is not the real Din Tai Fung. So my review will not talk about that very much - except to reiterate that you should not expect DTF level food or service. I was stubbornly not going to try this restaurant, but when I saw how many people were eating here, I knew I had to try it on the off chance that I was missing out on something amazing. Unfortunately, it wasnt all that. DTF Markham promotes itself as a Shanghai restaurant, but I really did not get that from the food or the menu. You cant just slap xiaolongbao on a menu and say its authentically Shanghainese. Most people were eating the likes of sweet and sour pork, beef chow fun - traditionally Cantonese dishes. We did enjoy the Lions Head Pork Meatballs, which are a traditional dish, and it had a good taste. The portion was decent too, for the price ($22). They also had Wuxi fried spare ribs, which were authentic - they were not fried at all! It was more of a stewed texture, which was disappointing. The taste was good however. We paid $90 all in for three dishes and three bowls of white rice. I didnt find this to be good value and likely wont be back. There is another Shanghai restaurant that opened at First Markham Place, so we will try that next.

As a Taiwanese, I really enjoy all the foods I have tried here, as long as I see it as Hong Kongese Shanghai food rather than the famous Taiwanese Shanghai food (i.e., the from Taiwan). I do love our Taiwanese but they are just different!

It doesn t matter that it s expensive, but the food is really not that good and it s disappointing.. It s not Taiwan s Din Tai Fung!

Food quality: not as good as before Food value: dish size has gotten much smaller Ive been to this shanghainese restaurant a few times in the past 20 years. It was decent before but the quality has decreased and the portions have gotten so much smaller. During our last recent visit, some examples of the issues include: - The Scrambled Egg White with Minced Fish ( ) egg was overdone and only included a few pieces of broccoli. The size of the dish is more like an appetizer. - The Stewed Beef Pancake Wrap ( ) was so dry and difficult to eat - The Steamed Silver Roll ( ) was not made properly as the insides of the roll should be stringy. It was a bun like texture. Quoting my girlfriend and I agree with her... This place sucks. Would not recommend this restaurant.

Good and cheap food

The service in the restaurant is good. The food and ingredients are clean and delicious. They all use relatively high-end and fresh ingredients. You can eat with peace of mind. The boss is very, very nice. It is a good restaurant worth going to.

99% I don t leave any good or bad reviews because I m lazy, but I had to this time. First time here, waited about 20minutues to be seated which is not a problem since it was a busy dinner time. Ordered 4dishes. First dish we ordered was bean leaves with garlic. As I was about to pick first portion, first thing that came to my eyes was some larva or other insect. Very disgusting. As an owner of a restaurant myself, I didn t take any photo of it because I don t want to damage anyone s business. which I regret now after the service. I gently called the staff and told her about it and she says I ll make you new one . I could not possibly dine in after seeing that plus the service. As we stood up to leave, other staff says thank you bye . I m not sure if you can possibly dine in here.

Love the food here. My favourite is the pan fried dumplings, savoury sticky rice, and hot sour soup. We come here probably once a month, highly recommend. It gets very busy here too, so make a reso.

The service was so bad. We ordered pot stickers, steamed dumplings, and shredded pork noodles with pickled vegetables. The noodles were cold. Others didnt come, and we had to wait several times before they came. I think maybe we ordered less and made them unhappy. I won t visit again in the future

Dined in on a Saturday evening with a group of 7. The food was delicious, the staff there were friendly and even came to verify a few things with us before putting in the order. The atomosphere is nostalgic if you re looking for a lively Chinese restaurant with round tables and the lazy Susan setup. We don t see that very much in downtown or midtown anymore. Kid friendly. Food was good value. Parking: Shared plaza so parking lot is very busy, but finding parking is possible.

I had a takeout because I cant eat inside(dog owner) so we opened bag they gave us wrong order and I exchange once and they asking me how many chopstick I need and they didnt put in my bag so I have to go get it and wheni return back to my car and now no meat in noodle soup(No. 45 on the menu) I went back and they got shocked. I got a refund. Didnt his 5 times. They should more pay attention for customer orders.

It s not like Shanghainese food! Pan-fried buns are nothing like them, and neither are pork chops. Whats going on? It doesn t seem to be Cantonese food, it s neither fish nor fowl.

No doubt it s the best xiaolongbao in Canada. It s worth to drive 5 hrs from Montréal. Open one in Montreal please.

Came on a Sunday for dinner, it wasn t too bad of a wait - 20 minutes. There were a few seats for us to sit and wait. Taste was mediocre. Portion size was disappointing for the price you pay and in comparison to other similar restaurants. Came to celebrate a friend s birthday. Service was pretty good except for the end when they started cleaning while we were still at the table but getting ready to go. Felt rushed. Photo for first set of food brought to our table. More dim sum items came but forgot to take more pictures. Total for a group of 4 of us came to approx. $150 + tax

Worst service and taste not special.. I dont know whats special..

My husband and I got seated immediately but if you re in groups, it might take a while. One of our dishes took longer to be served and when we asked them why, the server had a hard time because she couldn t speak English. However, she was knowledgeable with the menu and did her best to make sure we get our orders. The fried chicken was great for me, husband said it was normal. The dumplings made us both happy.

Tried it again today. I feel it is not as good as before. But it is still OK to eat. Not surprising, the price is higher now.

The food is terrible. Its outrageous. Tips are also mandatory. Its a big mistake. Theres no service at all. And the last sentence is We all rely on tips. Do I have to give it to you because you rely on tips? Tipping itself is the customers choice. It seems that it is the customers choice whether to give or not. What kind of unhealthy trend?

Very ordinary food even duplicating with same famous Chinese brand. We had fried noodle, was so plain, no any flavor..parking is extremely crowded during weekend.

The interior looks very grand and appealing, almost movie-like. Despite coming here on an odd hour its very busy as well although its a lively location so wait times should be considered when attending. The food here was alright- the dumplings are good but the rest of the meal was mediocre. The noodles were too oily and tasted bland. It felt like they made up on quality for quantity for their meals as serving size is big even for Chinese restaurant standard. The pancake was good though, I would recommend that and order it again.

It is not a real, frankly authentic Taiwanese restaurant, but we can confirm it is a delicious Shanghai cuisine restaurant. All the dishes are homemade, we felt like a memorable trip to China.

Soup dumpling!

We enjoyed our dining experience at Ding Tai Fung. Located in the First Markham Place, there s plenty of parking available. We ordered the Soup Dumplings, Hot & Sour Soup and Pork and Chives Dumplings. Food was good as the dumplings wrapper were on the thinner side and the filling plentiful. The restaurant inside is clean with a nicer decor compared to other Dumpling restaurants. The cost though is on the pricier side. I m interested in coming and trying out their Dim Sum service. It does warrant a visit and it s a must try.

Went here for lunch, just keep in mind it gets really busy and parking here is a nightmare. The food was a bit cold but still tasty. Ordered the fried rice with shrimp, beef noodles, red bean bun (softly puff balls) and siu long bao. The let down was the siu long bao as that s where the hype is; it came 20 mins after and there wasn t much soup. Better off going to the food court for siu long bao.

Firstly, this is not the real din tai Fung. Food was decent at best and overpriced. The soup dumpling was especially disappointing as the meat was not fresh and was really pink inside (freezer burn). The braised beef soup noodle was pretty good and tender. Service was average. Overall average experience.

Ordered Shanghai fried rice cake, it had very little to NO meat and veg, the dish had just rice cake fried in oil with no taste. At almost $20 definitely not worth the money. Also ordered pork soup dumpling, the skin was dry and didnt taste good at all.

One of the best Asian food in town. Really enjoyed the food., The only thing is unbearable (compare to the long wait) is the waitresses are rude. Different treatments to people with different ethnic background. I can totally heard they gossiping or criticising about customers in different table in Cantonese.

Ding Tai Fung is a go to restaurant for dumplings which we really enjoyed. Overall, the food was good but compared to similar Chinese restaurants in the area a bit pricey. While the quality of the food is good, budget-conscious diners may find more affordable options without compromising taste elsewhere.

This place is usually good. However, today was a little disappointing. The beef roll wasnt done right today. WAY too much sauce which made the roll very salty. The beef noodle soup wasnt hot when it reached our table. Broth was just warm. The dumpling was the only satisfying & delicious dish.

PSA: This is not the real Ding Tai Fung, it only has the same name as the famous Taiwanese one to scam people to come here. If you check the DTF webpage, it does not show this branch. In reality, the dumplings taste horrendous, the skin of the dumplings are hard and cold on arrival and the shrimps do not taste good at all. I cannot believe my eyes when I saw these, how in the hell are these Har Jiao and Siu Mai? I do not recommend anyone to spend money on dim sum this disgusting and overpriced Food was so horrid I refused to pay any tips, and they dared to chase after us for tips

My husband is from Jiangsu and likes this store very much. As a northerner, I like fewer types: Steamed Dumplings with Chives, which are a bit dry compared to dumplings in the north, and the taste of leeks is a bit strong. I personally prefer pure meat ones; Drunken Chicken soaked in rice wine is inedible. My husband liked it very much; the large intestine was salty with salt, but too greasy without salt; the blanched kale was not cooked enough, and the sauce was too much and too salty; the fried squid was a little dry. Next time I come here, I ll order my favorite soup noodles, wontons or soup dumplings.

Cool place

A bit overrated in my opinion. We went for dim sum. A lot of the dishes were very floury or just too salty. It seems like an apt place for large groups or family gatherings. Perhaps the a la carte dishes are better, but personally, dim sum was party disappointing. The only plus is that this is one of the few places that serve dim sum for dinner (while it is traditionally usually only lunch).

It was a nice visit after a short trip in the adjacent mall. We ordered the crab soup dumpling and the dried scallop soup dumpling, scallion pancake, Shanghai style stir fried noodle and rice cakes for five and added an osmanthus dessert. Loved the rich osmanthus flavor the most.

A go to for my Shanghai style Chinese food cravings. You can watch the chefs make the dumplings in the kitchen through the large viewing window. The food is consistently good here and the soup dumplings are always a favourite (make sure you order at least two per person I order three per person but that s just me). The spicy wontons are delicious as well. Parking is ample as it s located in First Markham Place.

I went to this restaurant thinking it was going to be a franchise location of the popular Ding Tai Fung in America. It is definitely not associated with that company and serves completely different food. We were disappointed with the service. It was our first time there, and none of the servers offered to help us with the menu. We had to figure it out on our own. They were very unfriendly. Food was mediocre and not worth the money!! Very busy during dinner times (6pm to 8). Expect line ups during weekend dinner service. I went there on Tuesday late night (9pm) on my birthday and it was surprisingly not busy. Was able to get a good table as soon as I came in with family.

I came here with in a group of 9 on Saturday for lunch. There was a 30 minute wait, so we walked around the nearby mall until they called us. We were seated at a table set for 9, but it was very cramped, we bumper elbows and some of us could not get up without asking the neighboring table to move. There is a window where you can watch the chefs make the dumplings. They have a large menu, and you just check off the items you want on a piece of paper. We tried a large variety of dishes, a few types of Xiao Long Bao, pan fried meat buns, hot and sour soup, red Bean pan fried pancake, sticky rice wrapped around pork floss and fried dough, Shanghai noodles, stir fried pea shoots, two types of stir fried rice cakes, and more. Notable item is the red Bean pan fried pancake, I enjoyed that the most. Everything else was just ok. The stir fried rice cakes were rather bland, but maybe Im just not used to that dish. I didnt like the flavour of the xlbs, compared to others Ive had in Toronto. They were beautifully made, but mine didnt have much soup inside. There is a 10% cash discount. The washrooms are very small compared to the size of the restaurant. For 9 people, our total was 250 before tip. Servers are fast and efficient, but they did help us take some family pictures.

We come here whenever we want to have dumplings. There was a line up but we got seated within 20 minutes. Food quality has always been good here although prices have gone up like most other restaurants. We ordered pan fried pork dumplings and pork buns, steamed soup pork dumplings (very juicy), sticky rice roll, savoury hot soy milk and braised beef noodle (both my favourite). Food overall was very good. I just find the pan fried pork bun dough a bit too thick (and not enough meat filling) to my liking.

First time at this place and will be coming back. Every dish tasted great. Even my least favourite (stewed pork/preserved veg) was delicious. Came around 1:00-1:30pm and was able to get a table for 2 quickly despite them being really busy. Service was prompt and accurate. The food came out relatively quickly and almost all at once. Anything you asked for, they came out with it very quickly. Highly recommend the wontons in chili sauce, soup dumplings, braised bamboo shoots, and green beans. The beef tendon was my guest s favourite dish. Everything had good flavour, complemented the dishes well and umami. If you want all around good food, this is the spot! The only challenge is that the plaza is always jam packed and it can take 10+ minutes to find a parking spot. Account for that into your planning.

Not the famous Din Tai Fung but who cares as long as the food is as good as DTF. We ordered XLB, braised pork belly and stewed beef pancake wraps. They are good and we filled our hunger with satisfaction

Me and my family s go to spot. Best Dim sum we ve had and plenty of options. Must orders include: shanghai wontons (spicyish), mini and normal pork soup dumplings (11,14 and 15), braised beef noodles in soup and soup noodles with spicy peanut sauce (45, and 66), beef tenderloin with black pepper sauce (116), sweet and sour pork (replaced for chicken, 110), stir fried green beans with pork (131). You will consume so much food you will leave with a sense of digust and utter bliss. Good luck finding parking!!

A place for Toronto Chinese in the know to get soup dumplings, hand made noodles. Also the squid tentacles are awesome. If you cant get to one Im sorry for your loss. Parking: Extremely busy Asian mall. Difficult to get parking during peak dining hours.

The soupy dumplings are the best in the GTA. The rest of the menu is pretty good too... Might not be the most popular but food and service are always consistently good. It is my go-to place for good Shanghainese dishes.

Food took way too long. Poor service.

The service was very poor. When we first entered we were not acknowledged. The did apologize for the wait. Food was very mediocre. The noodles were fresh but the broth had no flavor. Beware when it says double boiled beef with noodle soup there is not much flavor and only a couple of tiny pieces of beef fat. The only redeeming factor was the hot sauce. They ran out of pork Xiao long bao, which was the purpose of our visit. We settled for the pork and crab. It was the best part of the meal, and it was just decent. We were still eating and they brought the bill. I was very annoyed as I still had a fork in hand and wasnt finished eating. I felt like they were rushing me out. We paid $91 for 2 people and left mildly full.

Its a mediocre place at most, and the wonton noodle soup lacked flavour. Servers mix up orders, placing the wrong dishes on the wrong table. Poor service really, they dont listen to us or answer our questions (we speak Chinese)

Honest review time! Yes, youve read it all - how theyre the fake knock off / but bears the same Michelin restaurant over in Taiwan? But... at best effort - they really DO try their best. Dont knock it till you try it - its the best Siu Long Bow youll get to eat on this side of the world. Never change! Always a good meal - albeit the food is super greasy. So for those who cant tolerate it - you might get diarrhea or worse. (Yes, theres always worse). This place CAN get pricey - but its worth it. You wont get the same taste anywhere else. You see that BIG LINE UP when you get there? Get a reservation ahead of time and you wont be disappointed. This place has a line up FOR A REASON. Because the food is just that good. Give it a try! You might just like it. (Not a paid advertising I swear). Genuine/Sincere review.

Delicious dim sum restaurant

Good soup dumplings and unique steamed desserts, but everything else wasnt memorable. Ive had better elsewhere and dont feel that it lives up to its name. I dont recommend the soup, there was so much starch to the point where it felt more like liquid jello than actual soup.

Chinese restaurant with Shanghai dishes, nice try.

It was the worst Chinese food I had in this year so far. The food is bad and the service sucks

The xiaolongbao is too salty, the dandan noodles are not spicy and only taste like peanut butter, and have nothing but noodles. The pork chop rice is just average.

Ding Tai Fung has the best soup filled dumplings & Shanghai cuisine. Not affiliated with the world-wide franchise (Din Tai Fung).

Top notch food! Great dim sum and unique Shanghai style dumplings. Great service and exceptional atmosphere.

This aint the real thing like the brand in Taiwan. The food is medicore at best and in my opinion is overpriced. The soup dumplings are the main attraction here. The perfect we empty when we went on a weekday (granted it was the weekday) but service was fast.

Dimsum and fried beans are really good. However very very expensive!! Almost 20 bucks for fried beans Food : 3/5
