The famous Shanghai Shikumen restaurant was established in February 2001. Since their openings, both Shikumen restaurants in Toronto’s Markham and Chinatown have attracted countless locals and won multiple awards for their authentic Shanghai cuisine.
Food tasted sweet, not my cup of tea. However, the meats and ingredients they use are good quality.
Traditional Shanghai dishes and dimsun, fusion with other tasty Chinese foods, yummy and good presentation, reasonable price. Friendly services and spacious seating.
Cute decor, great place for families. Service was quick and friendly, but they forgot our lobster. The xlb were great, chicken was tiny, all the other dishes were decent.
If you miss Shanghai food, this is the place. Packed with strong savouring flavours and quick service. Heard their Sui lo Boa makers went to the Dan Tai Fung. Their Sui lo Boa is even better if you ask me. You can purchase $20 forever discount card for dine in and take out 10% Off. I got one
I wish I loved this restaurant more since my family has been looking for a Shanghainese restaurant in the GTA for a while now. Unfortunately, I think there were more misses than hits here - accentuated by their higher price point. We ordered the Shanghai Style Five-Spice Fried Fish ($16.99), Egg in Braised Meatball ($21.99), House Special Braised Pork ($24.99) and Gluten with Mushroom in Casserole ($17.99). None of this is considered cheap - especially that braised pork, which only ended up being a small portion! That was the biggest disappointment, as the pork was not hot and there was no sauce at all. It ended up being quite dry in the mouth, while the flavour was okay. The casserole was good, as well as the meatballs. It was a bit weird to see the classic Lion's Head Meatballs made this way, with an egg in the middle. The portion was very good though and the taste was decent. The spiced fish wasn't my favorite - while the flavour was right, the texture was odd. I usually like my spiced fish a bit more dried out and with the bones easier to pick out or even crispy enough to just eat. Overall, I may be back to try some of the other dishes. It was quite busy when we went (Saturday night) which is great for the business. I think we could find some dishes we do like, just would not re-order the majority of what we ordered today. It ended up being $98 including tax.
I'll try other Shanghai else cuisine just to do some comparison. Pics showed what we ordered and here's some thoughts: 1. Xiaolongbao was pretty authentic, but needed to be consumed fast or the juice will dry out. 2. The fried fish (熏鱼)were little too salty and it tasted fishy, due to the fact that it was certainly made of frozen carps. Will not recommend. 3. Shengjianbao (生煎包)has the right look but the filling tasted strange, like stale pork. 4. Wontons were pretty good. 5. The tofu w/crabmeat was a total disaster, only tasted fishy and dry crabmeat, even though tofu was cooked well. 6. Fried Spring rolls with pork and napa cabbage filling again too salty and not the right taste. I felt like they were taken from the freezer. Service and atmosphere were great. Not sure if I'd come back. I've lived and worked in Shanghai for more than 20 years since the mid - 80s, I'm sure I qualify to provide inputs objectively to the Shanghai dishes we were served.
We ordered 2 dimsums, 1 noodles, 1 rice cake and a 8 treasure rice as dessert. The stream buns and pan fried bums were hot and fresh. They were yummy. The noodles and rice cake were not bad but not much ingredients. The dessert rice was yummy. The bill was around $80. A bit on the expensive side. I'm not a fan of their member pricing. You pay $20 to become their member. Each dish may have $1-2 discount.
We came here for the dumplings but they ended up being a side note to the dishes we ordered. We just loved the braised eggplant- was so delicious! We also loved the egg meatballs. Scallion noodles were good as well. Looking forward to coming back to try other dishes. No idea about authenticity, but just know we enjoyed the food.
Just because I paid the fee and tip in advance, the waiter kicked me out twice and left without even finishing my water.
Greater Toronto s top choice for local Shanghainese cuisine
I came here specifically to eat the fried eel paste. The Malantou and sweet-scented osmanthus lotus root were unexpected, but I was really disappointed with the scallion noodles and pan-fried noodles.
Other reviews are correct. Food is so so, price is definitely on higher side, portion is small. To be more descriptive: Xiao long Bao: not bad, 7/10 Fried Bun: 5/10 larger than average Shanghainese style Fried noodles: 3/10, extremely oily and noodles all broke in smaller pieces. Drunk Chicken: incredibly small portion and texture is not good. Also very salty. You can tell the chef really don t care.
Food was great. One of the best Shanghai meals I have ever had.
Food were ok , little too much oil , service was ok .
The food is exquisite and very delicious, the service is enthusiastic and the service is fast. I highly recommend the fish maw chicken soup
The worst Shanghai food ever tasted.
If it doesnt taste good, dont go out to eat. Eat at home. This is what the boss said.
Small table sooo Tiny and sooo horrible I don t love this place no room and freaking another Chinese people ain t Hong Kong talk to much!!
Unfortunately this place did not impress us. It is just okay.
Had a good time with my parents there, the food looks great with their presentation. The taste is not bad too but we havent been in a while. Perhaps it was a bit salty or too much umami? Will need to try again
Very bad. The braised pork was not fishy enough, and the part of the meat it chose was not in line with the price, and there was even pig hair. Beef cubes with black pepper, the sugar didnt melt at all. Smoked fish is fishy as hell. The noodles mixed with scallion oil have no taste. The noodles are like instant noodles and have no texture. Except for these, which are particularly unpalatable, the others are all edible. Not worth the 180 yuan. We didnt plan to leave a tip because the food was unpalatable. The waiter asked us why we didnt tip. After explaining the problem with each dish, he said, I just dont want to tip. Basically, there is no service. No one served me after raising my hands for a long time, and the chopsticks were not washed. Will never eat here again.
Good cultural decor. Food and presentation is nice.
Dishonest cashier, the food tastes very bad. A 3-pound lobster was brought out as only 2 pounds.
Love this authentic southern Chinese cuisine!
This is a terrible restaurant! Should avoid to go if you are reading this review. We had a group dinner for an important event, but turned out to be ver disappointed. First of all, all tablewares are dirty. The dishes were expensive, looked ugly, and tasted awful. It was our first time there, also the last time.
Shanghainese food tastes good, with red oil and thick sauce. However, the cold dishes still have room for improvement and are edible. Parking spaces are difficult to find on weekends, so you need to reserve your spot in advance.
Delicious Huaiyang cuisine, lots of techniqie showcased in the tofu noodle dish: soft buttery texture in each ingredient happily immersed in flavourful chicken broth. My wife who grew up in the region told me the food served reminded her of going to Sunday brunch with her grandparents.
Great tasting Dim Sum place. Nice ambiance. The price is very reasonable with big servings.
The oily eel is delicious
Decent food - quite small portions. The fried buns were great: juicy with a crisp bottom. The xiao long bao were good but inconsistent - one of our steamers had a lot of juice, the other was dry. The ribbon fish was very salty, oily, and had a strange flavour.
Braised pork (The meat is of good quality, appropriately fat and lean, tender and tough. The sauce is average, and the bibimbap is uninteresting.
They do offer a variety and different style of Chinese food, the service is great and nice, the portion of food is good as well. There are so many tables and rooms which can provide for some big groups Kid-friendliness: High chair
I personally think this is the most reliable Shanghai restaurant in GTA. The quality of the food and service has remained stable (in a good way). Taste is quite authentic as well. Personally, I feel that this is the most stable local dish in Toronto. Other restaurants I have tried have almost had bad experiences. Currently, this is the only one that can maintain its standard.
It s been a long time since I ve been here and the taste is as good as ever. I think this is a very rare thing in the catering industry. Not only does it taste good, but it also has many new dishes. You wont be able to get enough of it once you come here. I forgot to take a photo because I rushed to eat it when it came up, hahaha. The boss and his wife are also very kind. Overall, wow!
Overall decent restaurant, the Shanghai food is about as authentic as you can get in Toronto. I personally love a lot of their menu items. Prices are fair as well in this economy. The service is pretty lackluster though. No rude waiters but they often forget your order/drink/anything else you ask for. Just an okay-ish restaurant thats only worth it if you are looking for authentic Shanghai food. If you dont care for that, you are better off going to a nicer place.
their time is very inaccurate. I had to wait double the time they told me it would take. They keep giving excuses for the delaying.
This place is absolutely horrible. I ordered their fried pork buns, they said it would take about 20 minutes. I had to wait twice the time and at the end when i got home I when I opened the container i saw that they burned the pork buns. It was basically charcoal, no wonder why i had to wait twice the time.
The New Years Eve reservation was canceled by Shikumen at 4:45pm. Really unacceptable. You opened at 11 a.m., so why not cancel earlier if you can t do it? My orders for Lunar new years eve dinner were canceled at 4:45pm. Not acceptable! I think you just dont care...
I really like the fried meat dumpling and appetizers. Will come back again.
Almost all dishes are tremendously salted. They do not taste like authentic Shanghai cuisines a.k.a Ben Bang Cai.
The squirrel mandarin fish is not what I expected... I dont know why the fish is not whole. The fish body is divided into two pieces, so that the overall portion looks small. The fish was over fried, the meat was dry, and the toppings were too thick. The flavor of ginger and white pepper in the braised tofu with small yellow croaker is weak. The pickled pork tastes a bit greasy, and the aftertaste is that of old oil. Overall, its not as delicious as the one downtown, but its a pity that the one in DT is closed
It is recommended to remove the word Shanghai. It is really embarrassing for Shanghainese to cook the food like this and call it a Shanghai restaurant. Before opening a restaurant, it is recommended to go to other restaurants to see how the food is cooked. The attitude of the restaurant service staff is also extremely bad. It is suggested that the restaurant should remove the word Shanghai from the name of the restaurant, and not to call itself a Shanghai restaurant after cooking the dishes like this, it is truly a disgrace to the people of Shanghai. Before opening a restaurant, it is recommended the restaurant staff should go to other restaurants to see how the dishes are cooked. The attitude of the restaurant staff is also extremely bad
The food is expensive, the portions are small, and the taste is not great. The braised bamboo shoots are not as delicious as the braised bamboo shoots side dishes bought in the supermarket. The osmanthus and lotus root for 14.9 is just a small strip.
Never coming back here! Spent $100 on dinner for two people and the waitress asked my boyfriend for more money as a tip, said We have to give her at least 10%
A very old establishment. Interiors and chinaware are showing their age. On the flip side, the food is consistent and OK (not superb). Ill take this over the newer, over-priced Green Tea restaurant next door any day. A good go-to place for southern Chinese food.
Food was ok with typical Shanghainese style. But they only accept debit and cash. For paying with a credit card, they charged us extra. One star off coz the washroom looks gross.
One of the best places for Shanghai food in GTA.
Authentic Shanghainese food, really liked the Chinese okra with edamame in chicken stock, layers of flavours.
I have never tasted such terrible Shanghai food. It s so dark. The chef must be from the Northeast. It s so salty and the price is so expensive. I m so angry. What the hell?
Eat tiger meat! Beheaded! The quality difference is huge! It s totally different from Shanghainese food! There is no comparison with the previous Toronto and Shanghai restaurants! Dont be fooled! n
Food is average 3 stars. Toilets are very dirty
The dishes are not freshly stir-fried, they are all pre-made, and they don t taste the same as freshly stir-fried dishes! Bad review!
Very mid.
Not ideal
Very authentic Shanghainese food!
A little bit salty and blood in the chicken meat, dont order chicken.
The roasted braised braised rice bran, drunken chicken, and black vinegar jellyfish were very surprising. Fried rice cake is a family dish, and it is very good. The chicken fish maw soup is good but not comparable to Cantonese restaurants.
As a native Shanghainese, I cant help but give this restaurant a glowing five-star review. Each dish we ordered was bursting with authenticity! The xunyu, shengjianbao, and zaoliuyupian surpassed all expectations. Every dish struck the perfect balance between sweet and savory a trademark of true Shanghai cuisine. Just a heads up though, they only accept cash or debit cards.
Not delicious
Since I was born in Shanghai, once in a while I like to try some beloved Shanghai cuisine. I invited my other 6 family members go there having some famous dishes. But other then good table service I was not able find any typical Shanghai tasting in all the dishes I ordered. Special the crispy duck was not only too dry but also too salty. I am pretty dispointment.
the best Shanghai food in GTA, still good after COVID
The environment is very good and the service is good. The taste of some fusion dishes still has room for improvement.
The House Special Braised Pork is amazingly delicious, the meat is tender, sweet, juicy and not too greasy. The dim sum here is reasonably priced, has decent portion size and tastes amazing, will definitely visit again! Dining atmosphere is very good too! The signature braised pork of this shop is very delicious , the meat is very tender, juicy, moderately fat and not greasy. The dim sum in this store is also delicious and the price is moderate. I will come again in the future! The restaurant environment is also very good!
Great spot in GTA for Shanghainese cuisine!
Foods were good but service wasnt. Both Ladys & Gentlemans washroom were out of hand soap and the smell were bad. At 8:30pm we were informed about the kitchens last call and before 9PM we were asked to pay. Later we realized the restaurant closed at 9PM so maybe the waiters werent being rude but didnt expect a famous Chinese restaurant in Markham would close that early.
Superb experience. Came back a second time and it was nowhere near as good as the first time.
We had dinner for two tonight (8:30). We ordered hot and sour soup, hand-shredded cabbage, Shanghainese vegetables, and signature pan-fried buns from the left. The supper was cooked till it was done , I thought the kitchen was about to finish work I might as well have a few tables busy. Wont Try Again -The hot and sour soup is not sour enough. When you eat it, you can only taste the pepper. It is like adding twice the amount of pepper to the soup to make it spicier. /5 -The hand-shredded cabbage is neither sour nor spicy at all, it is just fried with lard residue. I asked the employee in advance how the proposed dish tasted, and he said it was hot and sour. Once you bring it back to the kitchen to try it out, your money will be refunded directly. Proves that even the kitchen knows how to cook well /5 -Shanghai dishes are all ordinary -The signature pan-fried buns are not memorable, not impressive
Love this place
The food has too much MSG and too many unknown seasonings, and I feel very uncomfortable soon after eating it. I have a headache and a heartbeat. Moreover, the basic buns of Shanghainese cuisine are not available, so what should I use to deliver them, and side dishes? Too much.
Parents are from Shanghai. We were looking for a place to eat and saw this place so we definitely had to check it out. My parents were happy to be able to speak Shanghainese with someone and the food made them think of home. Overall experience was really good and will definitely be back.
Takeout is worse than dine-in. Waiters attitude is average
Probably won t go back. Food was so subpar and expensive. Small portions
Good service and good food.
Today I went to Shikumen to buy four kinds of food, including the signature fried buns, Shanghai thick stir-fried buns, scallion oil noodles and lard salted pork vegetable rice. The taste is very authentic. My wife and daughter praised the Shanghai thick stir-fried buns and fried buns. Its absolutely delicious, and I really like the rice with scallion oil, bread, bacon, and vegetables, because its not greasy in the mouth, especially the bacon goes well with the vegetables. Delicious...will definitely eat again...
Good food and service.
Overall, it tastes pretty good, with a taste of hometown. The only problem is that it s a bit sweet, even Shanghainese think it s too sweet
Large menu with authentic Shanghainese food. Delicious food, great service. I came away stuffed, but the food is not too salty and not greasy ata ll. Just delicious.
Me and my family feel sick eating the take out food from uber eat
Food is mediocre and very overpriced. Will not be back.
Authentic Shanghai restaurant
Stylish Shanghai foods, we love it, must try!
Taste great...
It s mid. Ok selection. Washroom is a storage room lol.
Food is pretty tasty, server are friendly and fast.
I heard some good comments about this place so I decided to give it a try. The decor was quite elegant and the food quality was high. All the food were quite tasty. Although it was on the pricey side, but the portion was reasonable and the service was good. I would recommend this place if you want to try some authentic Shanghainese cuisine. We finally came here again to have some Shanghainese food for lunch. The ambiance was nice and calm. This time we ordered two cold dishes (Shanghai Style Chicken in Wine & Aged Vinaigrette Jellyfish) and two hot items (House Special Steamed Pork Buns (Xiao Long Bao) & Fried Rice Cake & Chinese Vegetables). We liked their hot dishes more because it tasted freshly made. The service was good as before.
The food is just ok.
it great
One of my favourite xiao long bao; one of the better Shanghainese restaurant in the area. Service is great and very reasonable price during our COVID time.
One star for the chef The dishes were good, but the rest of the goodwill was deducted by the waiter. His attitude was so bad that he had the nerve to ask for a tip. I asked for the bill several times and waited for half an hour. Each time he said perfunctorily that he would wait a minute. Yes, I finally came after I had already started to get angry. Not only did I quibble and say, I didnt ask you to wait for half an hour, I told you to wait a while, he was also extremely impatient. In the end, he actually told us that we didnt give him anything. tip? ? Not only did they not provide me with service, but their attitude was so bad. I was being polite by not scolding them. Why do you think we should tip? Thank you. Anyway, I won t miss it anymore
Great experience!
Average. Tasty and the tomato special is better than expected. Could try it yourself
We have been this restaurant a few times. The $38 chicken soup is worth it that we order every time. My two daughters love the small buns. Lots of soup inside it. The service is very good! We love the place
Quick service, authentic Chinese food!
Highly over rated. Have the look, not the taste. Ordered traditional Shanghai dishes, ALL looked the same, tasted the same, with no flavor. And the waitress was unconcerned. Came the second time, because was impressed couple years ago. Not now.
My all time favorite
If nothing else, let s talk about the quality of the food. I have been studying in Suzhou for four years, and I often go to Shanghai. I have eaten in many restaurants that are highly rated by locals. I ordered three dishes, braised pork, sweet and sour short ribs and sauce duck. One by one, they said that the braised pork had almost no juice, and the meat was so dry that it was almost impossible to bite. The sweet and sour short ribs still had no juice and the meat was as dry as pork jerky. The sauced duck was all bones and had no taste other than sweetness. I really have never eaten in any restaurant where the food here is so bad. There won t be another time.
Good
Most of the food is quite authentic to shanghainese food for canadian standard. Portion can be a little bit on the smaller side for some dishes while some are quite generous. great for sharing and eating more variety of food with family and friends. The small shrimp is one of my favourite dish-they clean the shrimp so well and it was delicious! The pork belly is good portion and delicious. The food is slightly on the sweeter side. The pumpkin dessert is fried versus pan fried but it taste good with red dates filling. Definitely will come back. If you plan to go back to the restaurant might be worth getting the VIP card that is for $20. Parking: In first markham place. They also have VIP card that you can buy and most dishes have a discount if you get the card. Usually 2-3visit and you earn back the vip card fee. They only accept debit and cash.
Some dishes are good, some are not fresh. The kunpao chicken dish led us to having a stomach flu
Xiao lung bao and sang jiang bao was lack lustre, but their other dishes were redeemers. Braised pork belly and puffed rice with shrimp were a winner.
Very good restaurant, good in every aspect.
Shrimp fried in oil, each one is full of dry goods. I don t quite understand, but Shanghainese cuisine doesn t require deveining the shrimp.
I reserved a seat two days in advance, but when I arrived at the store that night, I found that the seat had been given to someone else without informing me in advance. It was a waste of time. Bad review! ! !
I heard it s a good Shanghainese restaurant so I d done a takeout for my dad. I d ordered steamed buns, pan fried bun, smoked fish appetizer. The wraps of the buns were thick, the fish was burned and dried. I was disappointed
Line up for pick up, delicious foods.
To be honest, even if its a takeaway product, its not that bad. My home is a 10-minute drive from the store, so it wont break down so quickly. Crispy duck smells like oil after being stored in the refrigerator for two or three days. You can tell from the photo that it is not fresh. After opening the pine nut fish, the whole fish fell apart. I ordered Cordyceps Flower Pigeon Soup, but I didn t see any pigeon skeleton in it. The soup was opened so little that I haven t drunk it yet. Highly not recommended, eat with caution! ! !
Stale food. Overpriced. Avoid this restaurant at any cost.
I ordered sweet and sour yellow croaker, like it
Got it for takeout and it was terrible and overpriced. The three dishes in the picture was about 40 dollars. The spare ribs (bottom) was so overcooked, you couldnt even chew it. The meatballs (left) costs almost 20 dollars and all youre getting are 3 eggs with some meat around it.
Food was amazing and tasted very authentic. Service was really great!!! Highly recommend the appetizers.
Best Shanghainese restaurant Ive been to in Ontario. Bold flavours and authentic dishes. Where else can you find shrimp cooked in dragonwell tea in town? Lots of vegetarian options to choose from as well. Make sure to try their braised eggplant.
Let s not discuss whether this restaurant is authentic or not. Shanghainese people said, has the owner of this restaurant ever eaten fried buns? Recommend everyone to go to sang ji fried bao
Ordered through a takeout platform, the beer duck is not duck at all, but chicken, with a lot of konjac shreds, and the meat is very finely chopped. The dry-roasted tiger prawns are only eight pieces for 30 dollars each, and there is a lot of soup. It is not at all Dry roast. . . Their quality has dropped seriously now.
My wife got stomach illness from eating their food. We ordered take out. Food didn t taste great and they were not fresh. I would not have put down such a poor review if at least my wife didn t get sick from eating it.
Absolutely OVERPRICED. Won t come back.
Good food and the price is decent
A nice restaurant specialized in traditional Shanghai cuisine. One of our group members is a Shanghai lady and she loved the stew pork. Indeed, it was very tasty and the meat was of select quality.
Good food, reasonable price and will recommend for trying.
First things first: Malantou incense is good Let s talk about the bad ones: the pan-fried buns are a mess, and the meat filling smells like rags. Not to mention the appearance, which is far different from the authentic Shanghai pan-fried buns, more like northern fried buns; The closing area is too hard. I remember that when I came here 18 years ago, the appearance of the pan-fried food was just okay, but the meat was not fresh and sour. It s not easy to open it until now.
Came here for dinner on Sept. 7, 2021 and we ordered 3 things: cold jellyfish noodles, a tofu dish, and crab XLB. The first 2 dishes were decent, flavourful, and ingredients seemed fresh. This place gets a 1 star review though because of what we experienced with the crab XLB. When the XLB arrived at our table, we took a bite and realized that it was in fact pork inside. We called one of the servers over to confirm our order, and he was adamant that the order was correct. The server claimed it was pork meat mixed with crab meat. However, this made no sense because the menu SPECIFICALLY said crab meat and had no indication of pork being mixed in. I took a bite of another XLB and made an effort to taste for crab and it absolutely did not have any. We asked the server to eat one and confirm for us. He did not and we started to get the feeling that they had messed up our order and were trying to cover up their mistake. Its no big deal if you make a mistake, just tell us so and give us the dish we ordered. But the fact that they tried to cover it up and in essence cause us to pay the price of crab for pork left us with an extremely poor experience, not to mention it made them look like fools when we figured it out. When we asked for the bill they told us We took the pork buns off the bill which confirmed our suspicion.
Not sure about the old reviews but most of the recent ones suggest its not worth it. Taste is subject to personal preference so cannot comment. But service is bad and terribly overpriced. Tea is just lukewarm. Server is rude when you ask about the dishes. I guess if you are from Shanghai you can eat here otherwise they dont welcome you.
The fishiest crystal shrimp I have ever tasted.... The salted egg yolk yam has almost no salted egg yolk flavor. It doesn t taste the same as what I had at DT a few years ago.
Not very fresh
OVERPRICED. Never go again
The skin of the braised pork is covered with pig hair when seen up close, which can irritate your mouth and throat. It was simply inedible. The meat was also a little fishy, probably because it wasnt processed properly. All down! I ordered takeout several times, and each time it was worse than the last. Will not be returning.
Comfortable and nice food.
The squirrel mandarin fish noodles are very thick, the braised lion head is good, the amount of noodles mixed with scallion oil is very small, the crispy rice is not delicious and expensive, the cups, bowls and chopsticks are sticky and we have to wash them with hot water ourselves, especially during the epidemic. Even though I was careful about hygiene, the bathroom was also a mess. I won t go there again.
The braised pork is good Highly recommended. The squirrel mandarin fish is average, with thick skin and fishy taste. The eggplant box is very salty. Hope the kitchen can be improved
Xiao long bao has no soup inside. Maybe todays batch is no good. Disappointed. Everything else was great.
Friends time me to this restaurant yesterday. Service is friendly, place looks clean. Food doesn t taste good. I do not recommend this place.
This is what I saw when I opened the lid after the takeaway arrived. The total of these three dishes is almost $60 before tax. I was really shocked. I just want to ask about such a small portion of sweet-scented osmanthus and lotus root costing $12.99 before tax. Is it reasonable?
November 2021 3.5 Located in First Markham Place plaza, this restaurant has been here for many years. At least 5+ years now. Walking inside, theres a bit of Asian decor, probably from Shanghai along with photos of the chef and presumably some celebrities hung at the front. During the pandemic, theres a take out desk right at the front for places like uber eats and fantuan - a Chinese version. Theres probably about 12 tables and can seat about 40 or so in total. There are about 3 private / large rooms. The China/tableware was already set up before you sit down and were a bit greasy/sticky. Honestly a turn off. As expected, the washroom was no better and like most other Asian places, theres no hot water. Ordered the house special - Saute Diced Chicken with Chili and Pepper Szechuan Style and while it was flavorful, the meat portions were small. It was also not hot enough. The House Special Pan Fried Buns were decent. The buns are an ok size and it was fairly juicy. The House Special Steam Pork Bun skin was thin, but didnt have enough soup filling. The Shanghai Style Fried Noodles were ok, but was really drenched in dark soy. The Pigs Intestine with Spicy Sauce was probably the best of the dishes I had. Though there werent enough pig intestine and had a lot of mixed fillers like luncheon meat. Personally, each dish was ok. There were two prices based on membership ($20 to join and can be applied immediately) and unless you either eat here again, or spend a lot of money, its really not worth it.
DThe seafood is pretty good. . . . Lobster is lightly meaty. . The portions are huge!
Not a bad choice.
Great food and good price
Several friends from Shanghai said it s authentic. I like the flavour too
Awesome food!
Not the Shanghainese I was thinking but the food overall was very delicious and the service was great. Life time membership is well worth the price as we saved enough to pay for itself on our first visit.
This place is fantastic, the food is great. Definitely would come back.
good
I love boiled fish, steamed buns, and braised pork. Super delicious
I went there twice for takeout. The first time was good so we decided to go back and ordered the food by phone. Went there for pickup, the woman gave me the receipt and everything looked great. While paying, the man handed me the payment terminal and I double checked the amount which looked higher. When I asked the question, he said oh you dont have to pay the tip and removed it.
I recently revisited this restaurant during Asialicious and was pretty impressed with all the food. The servers only speak Mandarin though, not much Cantonese or English. Xiao Long Bao - thin skin, super juicy, and meat is not too fatty. Some of the best Ive had in Toronto! Special Vegetable Noodle Soup - This noodle soup was shockingly good! The noodles were thick, chewy, and absorbed the broth so well! As chewy as udon, but not as tough and a bit smoother. The veggies were stir-fried before being put in the soup, adding some aroma to the noodles. The soup tasted like soya sauce, much like Shaghainese fried noodles. There was a few tiny pieces of pork, wish there was more for that price. Overall, such a satisfying bowl of noodles! Shaoxing Chicken - I liked how they used free-range chicken, wasnt very strong on wine taste though. Wontons - average like other Shanghainese restaurants. Quite a few wontons though.
They didnt speak English. Nor did they speak Cantonese. Looks like they only welcome Mandarin speaking customers.
What I wanted on the menu wasnt available but they did try to accommodate.
The food taste bad. Not clean.
2001 dunpo pork typical Chinese food
Good food , great service, very clean & neat Shanghai restaurant with very reasonable pricing ( especially member price). Great location too.
Authentic Shanghainese Dishes here. I really like this place
Every time I come here to eat, the chicken, cold wontons stewed with sesame sauce, and fried shrimps are must-orders! It s so delicious, I can t stop~ The service is also perfect
Authentic Shanghainese food, warm cozy environment, and at an affordable price. My fav dishes were the dunpo pork and the Chinese vegetable with dried bean curds.
Crystal Shrimp
I ordered takeout and was very disappointed. The food was small and the taste was not outstanding. I really can t afford the price I paid.
Delicious Shanghai style food!
The product is exquisite and the portion is not big. The braised pork is juicy and tender. It s great. The price is a bit expensive.
Not worth the price. Food taste like drenched in sugar, and quality isn t that high.
the food is excellent.people are nice.the restaurant is clean and beautiful
