We had a really nice experience celebrating our anniversary. The food was excellent and the staff were very friendly.

Our family had a VERY pleasant time at the School tonight. We definitely chose a perfect venue to celebrate our two daughters-in-laws birthdays. We hesitate to dine out with two small grandchildren around. Our infant grandson was drumming on the table almost the whole evening, and the toddler grandson had to tour around the restaurant. We were quite embarrassed, but the restaurant had accommodated us the whole time. We appreciate the friendly server and the staff who made our evening memorable and enjoyable. Kid-friendliness: No complaints with our noisy infant and wandering toddler. Spacious table as well.

We have 5 kids under 4 and they provided a nice private room for us. The ribeyes steak is wonderful, juicy and cooked to our liking. Calamari is also very well made. Kid-friendliness: Very friendly to us with 5 kids

Attending a meeting at the school s fine dining restaurant was a fantastic experience! The atmosphere was elegant and professional, providing the perfect setting for our discussions. A concensus around the table was the meats were very bland, particularly the prime rib which was large but really lacked any flavour. Service was okay but not for fine dining restaurant. I had advised them that we were celebrating a birthday over the phone and they forgot. Had higher expectations for a fine dining restaurant. While this is not the first time here, I likely will not be returning.

A treat for my birthday. The schnitzel was good, but I did find the mashed potatoes a little heavy for a hot day. Would have preferred a choice for my sides. The vegetables were good. We had the mushroom salad special, and I love mushrooms. However, there were varieties that cook at different times/temps that felt like they were all in the pan for the same time period. So some were pretty limp and other varieties still tough and woody. I love the idea of this salad, I just wanted a little more from it. The pistachio gelato was amazing. So good, I will think about it for days to come. The service was skilled and attentive without being overbearing, and the atmosphere was lovely. All in all, it was a really great experience.

We were here for friends 40th anniversary. Had a private room booked for about 40 people. The school house made the evening. Thank you to all the staff, they are great. Food : 5/5

This place is so overrated and over priced. Food is meh, dining room is likely suana, was there last week with temps pushing 27c indoors. Wont be back.

We celebrated a retirement here and enjoyed the afternoon. The food tasted great and the service was fantastic. The ambiance of the place is amazing though leaning more on the formal side. Definitely celebration worthy and will highly recommend.

Old fashion steakhouse feel.

I had been this restaurant for 15 years. I love the dishes and services. However, I think more customers and only 2 servers. It was busy. And server may not able to look after customers very well. Also, I miss their pickle, it was the best I ever tried. But they discontinued to offer the pickle

Wow, Wow, and more Wow! Darrell and I celebrated our 44th Wedding Anniversary today at The School. The food was absolutely the best, we have ever had anywhere! Lobster and Crab Cakes, Beet Salad, Salmon Fillet, and Fillet Mignon, New York Cheese Cake with Blueberries. Our meal was made extra special under the watchful eye of our wonderful Sir Gabriel, who is the absolute perfect mix of attentive and engaging and charming!!! We want to have him as our server every time we go from now on. If you are celebrating any special event in your lives this IS the place to go. Handicapped parking with a ramp to the front door. The atmosphere is sophisticated and elegant and so relaxing. 100% in every category. The attention to detail shines through in all their dishes and everything is carefully done to enhance your dining experience. The School restaurant should be you only choice.....other than what you are going to order when you get there. Hats off to NIck (the owner) who so graciously and warmly greeted us at the door to Peter who thanked us for dining with them today. Thank you so much, Grace & Darrell Dodds.

Came here for lunch with coworkers. I liked the ambiance however the food was quite underwhelming, especially given the price.

The school was a restaurant I passed by so often but made it a point to visit when the occasion came up. The occasion came up and had a lovely dinner. It is a bit on the expensive side but the service is well worth it. Jimmy and george (our waiters) were excellent. The food was good as well, portion size is good. We had a couple of appetizers and shared a main course.

It used to be very good but the menu hasnt been updated in a while, and the food was lackluster. The service was alright, what really bugged me was that the servers were auctioning off our food ( asking us who ordered what while serving the food). As someone who works in the industry, I expected more from a fine dining establishment.

Came here on Monday night and we are the only table in the restaurant. My boyfriend loves the prime steak. My lamb ribs cook perfectly as well. Highly recommend these two dishes.

Had a wonderful lunch at The School. It is my first time dining here, and I will be back. I was expecting small portions, but the portions were large and delicious! I had the beet and goat cheese salad and the salmon with veggies and rice. The service was excellent and the ambiance is lovely!

What a lovely experience! I have always passed by this restaurant but I ve never had a chance to try it until last month. We went there to celebrate a birthday and wow were we blown away. The two gentleman serving us was kind & polite and the food was great. We ordered the filet Mignon dinners, soup of the day (butternut squash), charcuterie platter, lobster bisque, and salad. They also gave a complimentary cheesecake for my birthday which was delicious. The school fine dining definitely did not disappoint and I m so glad I chose this restaurant for my special day.

Very quiet Monday night. We almost got the place to ourselves. The 5 of us ordered a lot, from appetizers to desserts. We love their onion soup, Caesar salad, rib eye steak and pistachio gelato the most. Dinner is much better than lunch, but price is more expensive. Food

Really nice old building, cozy and warm. Great food and drinks. Very attentive staff.

The food was great however, service terrible. When we arrived host was on the phone , we had to stand and wait for a long time to get in, even though we had reservations. I believe unless your a regular there or someone worth their attention, they will not treat you like a paying guest.

Had a meal with clients. Service and food were good. We shared escargot, crab/lobster cakes and calamari for appetizers. I had the chicken parmesan for main. It was all pretty good, but nothing really stood out.

Warm greeting upon arrival and a welcoming atmosphere all throughout our visit. Our meal choices were cooked to perfection and the person touch of preparing the Caesar salad at the table is an experience all on its own! We love this restaurant and will be back!

Lots of school character, gives u that feeling as if your eating at the house of the Adams family. Very traditional style, staff was nice. Great if your looking for something old school style. Nevertheless still one of Markhams finest dining.

Good food good service, definitely for date night. Side note: server is surprisingly good at taking pictures!!!! Overall I would give a four star as the menu hasn t changed much would want to try something new here.

Good place for a couple and friends to dine in. Place has an Irish pub vibe in it. All the dishes on the menu were great. A must try dish is the Tirimasu cake, which is out of the world. I also liked the grilled salmon with salad which was very good. This is a place where you want to visit again.

My partner was craving for some steak hence we went to the School as this establishement is one of the top rated in Markham. We came on a snowy day therefore the whole establishment was pretty quiet and we were seated right away. Atmosphere was excently mixed between old-school and modern decor. It is superb for a steakhouse. The server was very attentive, polite and pro-active. No complain there. We ordered and 12oz striploin and 10oz filet mignon at a very reasonable price (compare to other fine dining) and they were delicious.

Loved the classic ambience. Perfect place for a romantic date. The food is exceptional, only complemented by the fantastic service. Plenty of place to park.

The exterior is rather unique for a steakhouse and later found out the place used to be an old school that they had just retained. The interior of this place is cozy and has a warm ambience. I started off with a caesar salad for my appetizer which was fresh, crunchy, and nicely seasoned. I chose 2 mains because the lobster linguini really caught my eye and it did not disappoint. My steak was the most perfectly cooked medium rare steak I have had in a while and to top it off, the service was impeccable and the servers here were very friendly and attentive. Highly recommend and definitely loved my dining experience here!

Anniversary dining experience. The service is good. The taste and quality of the food are good and passable, but not particularly outstanding or amazing. At this price, I may have high expectations, but in reality it is just average, so a lot of points will be deducted here. Strictly speaking, the CP value is very low. The selling point here may be that it has a long history. I wont be visiting again because its not worth it.

Wonderfully delicious food. We had the prime rib. It was far better than a famous chain steakhouse offers. Everything from the Yorkshire pudding to the gravy was top notch. A beautifully prepared 12 oz serving with scrumptious veggies. The beet and goat cheese salad was very generous and delicious down to the bottom of the plate. We will definitely go again!

This place is beautiful. I had high expectations for a fine dining place. I haven t sat down less than five minutes. The waitress asked me what would I like to order? I m like I just sat down never even asked me if I d like any cocktails straight to the food like she was trying to rush me out and she wasn t happy being there. Calamari was awful and the salmon was over kill in butter and no flavour the vegetables they served was like from frozen vegetable bag. And the service was horrible from one of the ladies a little rude. I won t be coming back nor do I recommend.

We attended a wedding and reception at The School and were greeted by Peter who was very gracious and accommodating. We had grilled chicken and vegetables which were cooked to perfection. My wife requested for salmon to be cooked without oil which they happily did, they were very accommodating. The blueberry cheesecake and tiramisu were delicious, and coffee was fresh brewed and quite good. On leaving, Peter helped us which where to park car for ease of access to accommodate crutches. 11/10 food and service, highly recommended! Greg & Chen Parking: 50+ spots, large handicapped spots, wheelchair ramp.

The place looked awesome, and theres NO way its not haunted! Not a whole lot to eat if your vegan/vegetarian. The staff were super accommodating and helped me veganize my meal. Food : 3/5

We had our wedding at The School and could not have been more thrilled with our choice. Food and service were absolutely perfect. Peter went above and beyond to make our experience 10/10. Dietary restrictions were all met and all guests were raving abut how delicious the offerings were. The room was beautiful and the perfect setting for our special day.

The School is a true 5 star restaurant in Markham worthy for that special occasion that will make you leave satisfied. The steak I had was superb and the chef was able to customize to my preference. Oddly I have spent more money on steak at Joeys and the Keg so this is by far a better venue to dine in. Supporting local businesses instead of the line chef cook by numbers establishments.

Great steak house in Markham. Had a steak and a daily special entree. Everything was great until I found a a pice of fry in the vegetable side, hope it s not from McDonald s.

My wife and I went to The School for our 10th wedding anniversary and let me tell you this restaurant did not disappoint! From the initial contact, the host and the staff was so friendly, made recommendations and were very attentive. The food was amazing, full of flavour, great presentation and filling. An absolutely amazing place to hold a wedding! We held a small wedding here and couldn t have asked for more. Event Planner Peter did an incredible job organizing the event and making sure everything went smoothly. Food and service were amazing, and we had a wonderful time holding both the reception ceremony and dinner here. Would definitely recommend!!

Had my wedding at the school and it was the most amazing result that I could dream of. Peter is helpful from the day 1 we met him. He is frank, easy to communicate and attention to all the details. He and the team helped with the setup with the cake, flowers and the table cloths. It was a wonderful experience and I m glad we chose the School!

I used to enjoy coming here for special occasions. Our last visit was very disappointing. I ordered my steak medium rare and it was cooked to a brown colour around the edges. When I pointed it out the waiter was arguing with me. Ive never experienced that before. Also my tomato was supposed to be red but it was so unripe it was white. Potatoes were raw. Ceasars salad leaves were yellow. Im so disappointed...this used to be one of my favorite places

So happy we chose The Schools private function space as the venue for our celebration of life with a 120 guests. Event Coordinator Peter quickly understood our plans and he intuitively organised the menu, room setup and the overall vibe. He and his teams attention to detail mixed with warm hospitality showed they have a genuine interest in their gatherings being a success. The staff on the day were wonderful and all the foods were delicious, and beautifully presented. The room setup was warm and inviting. Everyone who attended enjoyed their experience. Thank you for an amazing experience well remember for a long time.

Had a business lunch here a few days ago. Our server was great, and everyone seemed to enjoy there food! Would definately recommend this place. We had the clamari to start, I had the NY Strip and it was delicious. Tiramisu desert was awesome as well

Old school charm is a good description of The School, which has been in business for so many years and yet able to keep its quality. Came with family for some fine steaks and surely wasn t disappointed. Ordered deep fried calamari, french onion soup, and grilled octopus as starter, roast prime rib, lobster and steak as main. Steak and roast were tender and full of flavor, and lobster tail was fresh. All tasted amazing and service was excellent, no complaint. Its one of the best steak house in Markham, and we ll surely visit again.

I attended a celebration in the private room which had been elegantly decorated and purfect for the event. Food and service was above and beyond fantastic. I highly recommend this establishment for dinner or hosting an event.

We just had our wedding reception for 45 guests at The School last week. I knew we made the right decision since our first consultation with Peter. They are used to hosting all sorts of functions. It doesn t matter how big or small it might be - the attention to detail and care demonstrated by their team is the same and we really appreciate that. They all know exactly what they are doing and we barely had to provide any input throughout the night - things would simply happen when they should happen and we couldn t have asked for a smoother night. Both food and service were stellar - we had multiple guests compliment the food, venue and service. We are extremely grateful to Peter and his team for the beautiful event we had!

I have to say, this was hands down the best restaurant experience Ive ever had in the GTA. I didnt have a single complaint. The food? Absolutely amazing! The service? Exceptional. And let me tell you about that Caesar salad it was so good that I actually wanted to lick the plate! I never thought Id get that excited about a salad. And the steak? Superb. This is the epitome of fine dining. If I could, Id give them six stars. Great job to Nic and the whole staff. Keep up the excellent work, and Im already looking forward to my next visit.

The food and service were excellent! Food was very well prepared, well presented, and with generous portions. I took my son here to celebrate his 10th birthday with a fine dining experience. We both enjoyed the food very much: My son had the French Onion Soup au Gratin (photo) and Filet Mignon, which came with a healthy plate of vegetables including, carrots, asparagus, broccoli, mashed potatoes, etc. I had the Soup of the Day and Pasta Primavera, which were great vegetarian options for me. They even gave my son a big slice of chocolate cake on the house, which was big enough for both of us to share, and much appreciated! Our server, Yianni, was helpful, friendly, and very courteous. Overall, it was an excellent dining experience. Highly recommended! Vegetarian options: Vegetarian options were quite limited as expected, this being primarily a steak and seafood fine dining establishment. However, the Pasta Primavera and Soup of the Day far exceeded my expectations. They also had a variety of salads, which are vegetarian (or can be ordered without meat).

It was my first time dining at this restaurant. As soon as we arrived, we were greeted by the wonderful staff. The place was very nice and cozy. We had our Christmas gathering here the school of fine dining . We were a group of 48 . The food , service and atmosphere was wonderful. We will be back next year thank you from Bur Oak Dental.

Great fine dining experience just north of the city!

The atmosphere / setting is interesting as they kept the school vibe. The grilled calamari was an interesting twist on this staple appetizer. As many people note, the caesar salad was phenomenal. The show of preparing the caesar salad table side was a first for me. The ability to select the ingredients allowed you to customize to your taste. I ordered the new York strip. It was cooked to perfection and was very tender and as the saying goes melts in your mouth. The potatoes and asparagus were also well prepared. The old fashion paired well with the steak and a double capp was a nice finish to the meal.

My wife and I always have a great time here. The food and staff are amazing.
