World first Aburi anime art sushi specialty store
On the way to Port Perry, we got hungry and decided to grab a bite at Markham. Based on the reviews, we decided to try this place since Cafe Mozaiko looked like a good choice. We didn’t check the menu, but it was exactly the kind of food we like. My son went for his usual order of the spicy salmon bowl. He said it was unbelievable and one of the best he has had. It came with pickled ginger, pickled seaweed and a spicy mayo. We decided to order chicken karaage bento for a change. The chicken was melt-in-the-mouth and the coating was very flavourful with the right amount of crisp. The sesame sauce it came with was also great. The rice was seasoned and paired very well with the chicken, not dry at all. The lychee iced tea had fresh lychee bits and was very flavourful. The taro milk tea tasted like real taro and the boba was good too. Overall, a fantastic experience and we’ll be back to try the sushi.
It caught my attention as the world’s first anime sushi art store, but I found it a bit gimmicky 😅 My friend ordered the Attack on Titan-inspired sushi platter, and I didn’t see much anime relevance in it. The pressed sushi has more rice than typical sushi, which might not be for everyone. Anyways the food was okay and offered some value. I’d consider ordering again if they still have the Uber Eats BOGO promo.
Nice place, nice taste, very cute and quiet place! And price is also fair! Recommend it!
Unfortunately I can only give 1 star. The takeout delivery takes 2 hours and they don't give any wasabi for the sushi. I also don't like they put ginger on the sushi which destroys the original taste of it. Ginger is one of the kind of food that I wouldn't eat.
Great food for great price at a very cute family run cafe. The service was very warm and friendly, and the theme and decor was very fun! The Shiganshina District Aburi platter was a standout favourite for my wife and I. Highly recommended! We will definitely be back again!
I ate in here with a few friends, ordering the aburi sushi platter wall rose, karaage, and a couple strawberry bubble teas. The sushi and karaage was very high quality and very filling (I particularly enjoyed the eel), though the bubble tea was found lacking (the strawberry flavour specifically was a bit chalky and we didn’t like the jelly used). The staff were friendly and quickly prepared our order, and the aesthetic was fun to hang out in. Overall a very good experience!
We’ve decided to try out Cafe Mozaiko for the first time last night and we were pleasantly surprised at how delicious their food are! Having tried out most of the sushi joints in the Richmond Hill area, we’ve decided to try something different so we simply googled what’s available in the area and landed on Mozaiko. We tried a couple of their items and I have to say my favourite part was the rice they use that resembles ones I am had in Japan. The pressed sushi did not come apart like many other sushi places. We will definitely come back and try their other items again.
SU-you-SHI, this new place is amazing! It's o-FISH-ally my new favorite takeout place to get nigiri from ✨ Seriously, it is such a RICE addition to the neighborhood -[ABURI MOSAIC SUSHI PLATTER // 42 pcs] $60 •Aburi original Salmon 6 pcs •Aburi Tasogare (wasabi Salmon)6 pcs •Aburi salmon danburite 6 pcs •Aburi wasabi Tuna 6 pcs •Grilled Unagi 6 pcs •Aburi Shrimp 6 pcs •Aburi Wasabi Shrimp 6 pcs -[ABURI ORIGINAL SALMON] 🟠 Thick-cut salmon, unagi sauce, sesame -[ABURI TASOGARE (WASABI SALMON)] 🟠 Thick cut salmon, chopped horseradish, togarashi, wasabi sauce -[ABURI SALMON DANBURITE] 🟠 Thick cut salmon, grated ginger, scallions, shiso flakes, spicy sauce -[ABURI WASABI TUNA] 🟢 Yellow fin tuna, wasabi sauce, pickled leek. -[GRILLED UNAGI] 🟤 Grilled eel, unagi sauce, Sansho,Yuzu peel -[ABURI SHRIMP] 🦐 Shrimp, original tangy sauce, seaweed flakes. -[ABURI WASABI SHRIMP] 🦐 Cooked Shrimp, wasabi sauce, shiso flakes, wasabi tobiko, Unagi sauce. Super excited to order from here again to be honest haha
I called ahead to order food. The staff served me very well. Beef rice bowl Gives an excellent taste I ordered 10 pieces of sushi. Everything was carefully prepared. I intend to go again tomorrow. She has
Fully Cooked Mozushi Platter was very good
Great prices, average taste
Love grabbing this for dinner, must try
Very affordable. Good Service. Good options. Love the October special deal. Highly recommend!
I like the anime drink theme options. It would be a great hit if they added a iced lemon tea as an option.
Delicious unique torched sushi options at very affordable prices!! The owner and staff are all very friendly and it ll be my go-to place forever :)
Very good, cheap and good quality; it s a pity that it s located in a remote location in this area; the taste is no less than the top ones in the city! !
Seemed like a family run shop, generally a nagiri fan but this was good and very affordable, Id easily go back again and again
I was looking forward to trying this cafe but unfortunately it was a very disappointing first time experience! The service is awful! My friends and I called to order 5 lunch sets through the phone and were literally rejected by a rude female staff who said they are currently very busy with OTHER orders and told us to order online instead! We did not proceed with our order because we were absolutely disgusted by the poor attitude and it did not seem like they cared about having business or not.
I really appreciate having this local restaurant that we can walk to during the summer. My recent favourite is the aburi salmon tsukushi copper bento - the monari sushi is a nice change from the aburi sushi.
They need a better photographer. The sushi tastes much better than it looks in the pictures.
Easy parking. Delicious food. Good price. Can t ask for more.
The people were really nice. I had boba and it was real good
Great experience. Warm friendly staff.
Two-dimensional friends will probably like it. The sushi tastes quite special, but it s a little greasy.
I ordered the spicy salmon aburi on Uber and they sent me shrimp instead.
Karaage Bento box was delicious. Great vibe if you like anime too.
Good food and friendly service. The rice to fish ratio is on the higher side.
Wife and I had kaarage chicken curry and two torched sushi rolls delivered. While the presentation is good, the rolls were lacking in flavour. Unfortunately we both experienced violent food poisoning about 5 hours after eating.
Ordered take out for mosaics platter for CNY. The rice were not even fully cooked!! Very bad experience, so disappointed, what a waste of 60$ this is my second time ordering from this time, first time was decent but I think they recently increased the price.. the quality of sushi is not consistent will not come back
Small store with limited seats. Excellent food and service, definitely will come again.
Nice food! You make really good sushi!
Good atmosphere and service, delicious food, and the kindest owner. I really recommend it. A great place to enjoy authentic Japanese cuisine and improve your Japanese, if you want to talk with Kai San.^_^
Very tasty aburi sushi. Ordered the promo combo of 42pcs aburi + karage for $60+tax. After a few pieces, the flavours started blending but it was still very good. I would totally order again! Recommended dishes
So delicious! The best and fastest torched sushi in the area.
The best torched sushi i ve had!
Love the anime vibes, drinks were good and sushi was good
Being the sole restaurant in Cathedraltown currently, this place is a nice little local place that makes really good torched sushi. Everything in here is anime themed if thats your thing too. Prices are pretty reasonable compared to whats out there too. Will definitely come back!
Really enjoyed the curry + karrage dish, but wasnt too big of a fan on the torched sushi; a bit too much mayo for me. The staff there were nice :)
Really hits that torched sushi craving just right at reasonable prices. You can order for pick up ahead of time as well.
Cute shop with tasty torched sushi! Limited seating but I had no problem finding a table on the Family Day afternoon. Staff were very friendly. I got the Aburi Kabayaki and Takoyaki, they were both great and fairly priced. The salmon was my favourite!
My favourite spot for sushi! When you walk in, it may just seem like a cafe (the drinks are amazing btw!) but the real star of the show would be the sushi! Worth every penny! A small suggestion to the business would be to offer an alternative milk for drinks, other than that, the sweetness level of the drinks are perfect.
Love this local find and great pricing for pressed/ aburi sushi. They have lunch specials and take out trays. Dont forget to sign up for their newsletter they offer occasional discounts on there as well!
My go-to is always the Spy Family!! Love their aburi here.
Nice and cozy anime themed japanese restaurant. Authentic tasty food. Shrimp Tempura, takoyaki, miso soup along with Aburi Salmon Tsukushi Gold which consist of raise, salmon, 3 pairs of sushi was awesome. Remind me glimpse of Osaka..
Tried the chirashi lunch and aburi salmon tsukushi silver. They were both tasty and prices are also very reasonable. They also have aburi sushi platters and bubble tea as well. Staff were also very friendly. Highly recommended and will order again!
Food is great for the price!
Food was good fresh, price. mom and pop shop witha nice anime theme
I personally think they are overrated. The 3 different type of sushi looks different but taste are the same. We tried to find out the different but we couldnt tell honestly. Also, they charge higher prices on site than online.
Ordered the Taro drink and the Aburi Fully Cooked. The rice in the Aburi Fully Cooked was soft, moist and seasoned and the toppings had good flavour and just the right amount of sauce. It was quite filling because there was a good amount of rice. However, the drink did not meet my expectations for being $7 taste wise. Dont know how to explain it but it just didnt taste like what I expected it to and I think the jelly made it taste weird. Maybe mango would taste better. We did get a mochi along with our drinks because of a promotion(matcha one was good). The customer service and atmosphere was also nice. Overall, would come again and order the Aburi Fully Cooked and ramune instead :)
Weird concept. Portion size is small but fair for the price. Tried it because there was a two for one deal on UberEATS. I go back the following day and they say there is no deal. Rubbed me the wrong way. Wont be back.
An amazing gem in a small area. Great pricing and portions too, Im so glad I found it so close to home. Will definitely be back!
We did not have food there, just tea. Many many choices as other bubble tea places but its a good quality. The place is very clean and the service is excellent.
Great food and awesome service!
Great little spot with amazing customer service. Id definitely recommend!
Tasty eel party platter here. Not too expensive.
Salmon is fresh
Food is tasty fresh and good value
Very good food ! Our family love it a lot !
Reward program was great! Free food!
A hidden gem in the Cathedral town area. Food and drinks are quite good. Prices are decent for its quality. Place is uniquely decorated with Anime characters and images. Will definitely be back again!
Interesting take on aburi sushi, drinks are fun, take out is very easy.
The torched sushi here is delicious. I got the aburi sushi platter and it was definitely enough to feed 2-3 people. All the rolls were delicious and unique. Id come back here anytime Im in the area.
Good torched sushi
The kapayaki set had fresh fish and flavorful rice but the sauce was too sharp/vinegary that it overpowered the sweetness of the fish. Service was warm but it could take a bit of time to prepare. Best to phone and order ahead if youre in a rush.
This is a lovely little cafe that serve Japanese food.. and drinks too! We first go there to buy a drink after finished lunch and we got the red bean match milk tea if I remember correctly and tasted not too bad. So we decided to also to give it a try again at dinner time! The person who works there is very friendly and when we order take out over the phone, he is pleasant to talk to and take his time explaining things when I have questions for the menu. We ordered two take out item: 1. Stranger Don - it s thin beef with egg and in my opinion, it tastes better than the Gyu Don u typically get from a Japanese restaurant. Quite tasty and the beef is tendor! Yummy! 2. Curry Karaage bento - the curry sauce taste quite good and the Karaage is not too bad. The Karaage goes quite well together with the curry! But I was hungry , so I ordered extra Karaage just in case :). The bento box also has an onsen egg, quite runny! 3. The hot Royal milk tea - it s a good cup of milk tea with a strong tea aroma! Taste particularly well after eating the Stranger Don and the Karaage bento. Definitely will visit again!! Thank you Kai San! gochisousama deshita! - Edit- went again on the next day and try more dish for take out, the udon and the zaba fish. Fish is cooked very soft and juicy!! Very yummy!
We tried ordering on the phone but never got through so we decided to drive over. It s a small operation with only 2 people at the time that seems to mainly specialize in Aburi We ordered the Aburi quartet and the aburi spicy salmon bowl The aburi quartet was quite yummy, you get 3 pieces of each type for around 20 dollars. The aburi spicy salmon bowl comes in either 140g or 240g. My only complaint was we thought the spicy salmon would be a torched sashimi however it was actually cooked salmon that was torched. It was still tasty but a bit different from what we expected Overall not bad
Good for quick lunch in the neighborhood. Tried their assorted torched sushi and spicy salmon lunch bowl. Both have good complex taste and worth a try
delicious sushi and Japanese food
Some of the best aburi Ive had in GTA at very reasonable prices.
Very tasty! We got the aburi quartet which came with salmon, eel, tuna, and shrimp sushi, and each one tasted great!
We orderred aburi fully cooked sushi and it is very delicious. We love the sushi rice. Ginger Peach Houjicha Latte is very good also.
Sooo tasty and fresh!! I will be back soon!
Spicy Salmon bowl is a hit, good portion of fish and nice Japanese sides (seaweed, wasabi, ginger)
Loved this place! Service was good, food was delicious
Amazing! Got the lunch special with 6pc of torched salmon aburi and 6pc shrimp aburi for only $15! The chefs are really nice and even brought it out to the patio for us! My sister got the aburi salmon tsukushi gold as well. Would recommend and come back!
Very tasty, hidden gem just 5 mins away. We had the Aburi Quartet and Karage Chicken. Very well prepared. The bubble tea was very refreshing. Great staff, great food.
They have limited seating and most of their clientele appear to be take out customers living within walkable distance. I was in the area and they at first refused to take my order in-house and asked that I order online on my phone. They had 3 tables, only one of which was taken and I asked if I could eat there. They dont clean or clear the tables. The 2 people working there are busy cooking, taking orders and accepting payment. The food was good but overpriced.
I stopped by tonight based on the reviews I had read below. What a great little place. The food was really good. The two gents at the shop were really nice! I had the torched salmon and chicken Kaarage (appetizer). They gave me the chilled tea. Definitely coming back. My only recommendation is just a dollop of wasabi. Thanks for the great meal!
A small restaurant in quiet cathedraltown, Cafe Mozaiko has sublime, melt in your mouth torched sushi that will blow you away.
Pressed torched sushi is fantastic here and they have an awesome deal for a tray. Little hidden gem. Highly recommend.
Sushi was so tasty! Such a cute place aswell go visit. Got a bbt and then ordered torched sushi to go!
i went here because i saw a tiktok about their 40 piece aburi sushi for $60 and it did not disappoint, it exceeded expectations! it s a cute place with cute anime theme interior. there is even anime theme drinks, mostly demon slayer influenced. i pre-ordered online and they had our order ready earlier than expected and the cashier even gave us plates so we wouldn t be struggling eating it LOL customer service here is amazing along with the aburi sushi would come here again to try their other items on the menu as we were too full from eating 40 pieces
Great food and taste. Highly recommended!
Amazing aburi and bubble tea. Very nice owners. They use real wasabi which is the main reason they have my business.
Nice little place on Cathedral High. Mostly for take out but there a few table to dine in. The Karage chiken is very good, you can also get Japanese curry with it. The cooked sushi is not bad.
My son s new favourite place for aburi sushi and reasonably priced compared to other places.
How the sushi today, very tasteful. Will come back to try the rest of the menu.
Loved the Cafe interior since it looks like they went to an anime con and and hit up every booth in artist alley for their prints. Aburi platters and aburi and karaage bowls were solid and very good value if you factor in their discount and loyalty system. Take 1 star off as their takoyaki wasnt that good.
Cute little restaurant for some tasty aburi sushi and other Japanese food and drinks! I came here for takeout and ordered their Aburi Kabayaki (Salmon Oshi 6 pcs, Aburi Shrimp Oshi 6 pcs). $17 for 12 pieces of aburi sushi is incredible value, and the quality and portions were both great! They also have lunch specials which are even better value! The interior is nice and well-decorated and they even have some patio seating, would definitely come here again for both takeout and dine-in.
The aburi sushi was delicious as it melts in your mouth. Karage was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Ambiance is nice and cozy so perfect for lunch or quick bite
Came here on a very rainy late afternoon & the storefront was very quiet. I also have never been here before and its nice to see all these small business owners surrounded by a suburban neighborhood. When I arrived, the parking spots were pretty full however I was able to find a spot not too far away. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted with sincerity by every staff member. I placed my order (aburi quartet & tan matcha + the karaage bento box). The kind girl at cash helped me pick my drink choice by explaining what to expect between the two drinks I was eyeing. After I paid for the bento box, she told me that it would be ready in approximately 15 minutes. While I waited, I took some pictures of the interior which I liked. Very clean & love the art on the wall. As soon as my drink was ready, she brought it to me & shortly after, the remainder of my order. Now onto to aburi sushi & tan matcha review... the torch on the sushi was perfect. Just lightly flamed-seared on top making the fish medium rare. I was able to easily identify most of the fish with the exception of the tuna however the texture & balance was exceptional. One thing to note is that the wasabi on the tuna was non-existent so they can definitely make that a more prominent flavor. The tan matcha is on the bitter side which is why I chose this drink over the taro which Im told is on the sweeter side. It also has brown sugar jelly & coffee jelly in it which are good matches with matcha. The only comment is that I couldnt get over how grainy it is otherwise it is a pretty good drink. I also got a reusable bag & reusable wooden chopsticks Yelp branded. Many thanks to Cafe Mozaiko and our new GTA community manager for putting on such an amazing experience! Its so nice to see Yelp Elite events happening in York Region. IG handle: _sarah_micallef
I dropped by Cafe Mozaiko as part of the Yelp event and picked up the Aburi Quartet, Aburi Salmon Tsukushi Gold lunch special and the Ino Coffee. The store is a cozy space with about 12 seats and walls decorated with anime posters. You order first at the counter and the lady who greeted me was super nice and helpful. The food was all very good. My order was freshly prepared and packaged really well. The Tsukushi Gold comes with aburi and a grilled spicy salmon over rice but I think they ended up giving me plain salmon without being tossed in the spicy mayo. The Aburi was all really good. Each aburi was constructed well which held together without being too dense, and each one was paired with a good balance of sauce and other toppings. My favourites were the salmon and eel ones. They also have a few anime series based menu items, including the Ino Coffee thats named after Inosuke from Demon Slayer. The drink was creamy and light with a really good brown sugar jelly. A bit too much ice for me so Ill see if they can adjust the ice level next time.
About a 15 minute wait when ordered through their online website. Interior is super unique: fully decorated with anime posters. Ordered aburi quartet ($20) and takoyaki ($6) - the seafood was super fresh and tasty. Would definitely come back!
The aburi sushi were absolutely amazing!! Can t believe a little shop delivers such great favours. Each piece has its own unique additional touch such as using real wasabi, ginger, yuzu etc. the mosaic platter was a piece of art and we definitely enjoyed all the pieces. Look forward to coming back here again! The teas we got were decent, though I would recommend the sushi more. The store interior design was also very interesting with lots of Japanese anime themed so if you decide to dine in should be a great experience also.
Decent spot for sushi and japanese snacks! Super cute anime themed decor and menu. Really appreciated the ability to scan, order, and pay from the online site. Food was fresh and tasty with good variety. Fairly limited seating, but we went on a Saturday afternoon and it was fairly empty.
The best aburi sushi in Richmond hill! Very buttery and soft and warm and the torched sushi is torched PERFECTLY! We ve tried almost all their aburi sushi s and their torched salmon bowl multiple times - highly recommend :) we haven t eaten in but the cafe is small and cute :) our go to whenever we want aburi sushi (which is always haha) 5/5 recommend!
Delicious food and delicious drinks, great place to hangout with friends.
We ordered the mosaic aburi platter and 2 royal teas. Since they had a really good deal of 30 percent off we also got combo #4 which was 6 pieces of shrimp aburi and 6 pieces of salmon aburi. The staff were really friendly and accomodating. I would definitely go again and recommend this place.
Got the Aburi Kabayaki and it was too much mayo for my taste. The torched smokey flavour did not reach the fish and if you remove the mayo for health and taste, then youre just eating a regular salmon nigiri.
Yummy sushi! Good environment!
I will give 5 stars. Very tasty sushi! I think I will come again. Strongly recommend.
Quaint and beautifully decorated red themed little cafe. Nice variety of Japanese food, drinks and desserts like okonomiyaki, bento boxes, cheesecakes, waffles and different teas. Outdoor and indoor seating available and paperless menu. The paper packaging is really well packaged with care and nice quality. I ordered the genmaicha milk tea with tapioca and the okonomiyaki! Both items were delicious and the genmaicha tea flavour was strong. Looking forward to stopping by at this cafe again!
Cute little shop. You can order online from their online store too. Food, drink, service were all very pleasant. Will come again.
Good service and food was delicious.
Come try the food!
Good little local cafe for a quick lunch or afternoon tea
A small cafe in the neighborhood with great food and friendly service. Love their karage and okonomiyaki. Will come again.
A hidden gem. Great place to grab a bite, some salmon and a bento box. Nice seating and parking is free outside on a street with small commercial shops, artists, and healthcare/dental/optometry providers. People are very nice as well!
Nice interior and good food!! Will be sure to come back and try more items next time!
Great quality food in the neighborhood. Give it a try! Friendly staff and easy to order.
Lovely cafe latte with awesome price!! Highly recommend this little cafe!
A small cafe with yummy authentic Japanese Food.. you would feel that the owners have put thoughts in the cafe and present great food to you sincerely.. very clean, great place to meet up with a friend or a small group.. i would definitely say this is a hidden gem in the Cathedral town!
