Absolutely love this place! Everything we have ever tried has been good and they are so sweet there. You feel so welcome. Had the guacamole tonight and of course it exceeded expectations.

Terrific spot! Food was great and service was super. If you re looking for a quick bite I highly recommend this place.

I haven t been to Mexico, but I I ve had the best tasting enchiladas ever at the mexican hat. The entire menu is fresh and delicious homemade food made shockingly quick. Behind the counter and grill is the kindest family and best service you could ever ask for. They ve even called me back when they missed my call for takeout! This place is a must if you re in town. Do. Not. Skip. It.

Our family is a large group. The lady who served us made us feel very welcomed and showed us how to do things a little cheaper. Food was great and portion sizes were good. We fed 7 people for $107. Kid-friendliness: Kids meals were cheap Wheelchair accessibility: Ground level entrance. Someone has to hold the door. Most of the restaurant is booth seating but we were seated at a table with chairs.

We stopped by on our way through town, and while its off the beaten path from the highway it was worth the detour. We had a couple burritos and the loaded tater tots and everything was good. They didnt skimp on the toppings or sour cream for the tots. They had a few other things Id like to try as well like the enchiladas, tacos, and the burger. The lady working there was helpful and kind to my kids. Even after they spilled the hot sauce. We spent about $50 including a few beverages for two adults and two kids. I felt I got my moneys worth, especially given fast food prices these days. Well be back next time we go through town. Places like this are why I try to eat local when I can.

I loved this little hole in the wall experience. The woman who served us (owner? I m assuming) was so sweet and friendly. The portions were large and filling. Food came out quickly. My husband and I both got carne asada, in different forms. Mine as tacos and his in a burrito. Meat was well seasoned, and with a touch of their spicy homemade salsa, it s a 10/10. We left very full, took two boxes home and polished them off before bed. We will definitely be back!

Stopped at this little restaurant while driving through town and it did not disappoint. The food was amazing - fast, tasty and fresh. The waiter (owner?) was so nice and friendly. Wish we could visit more often but will come back when in the Hat.

We were in the Hat for a day trip and felt like some authentic Mexican food! Boy did we find a winner! The owner was so friendly. She provided excellent service and we had to push to get her to accept a tip! The ingredients were fresh and our meals hot! The tortillas are home made and so light and crispy. I didn t see a chicken quesadilla on the menu and inquired. The owner immediately said no problem I can make one for you! It was stuffed and the ingredients were simple and fresh! My son loved his meat lovers tacos and he loved the refried beans so much he took the half I had left off my plate If you are lucky enough to find this place like we were then go and support it! We will everytime we are back in the hat!

As soon as I walked in I was greeted. I was looking at the menu and the gentlemen offered me a paper copy with descriptions of all the items. He was welcoming and said if I had any questions to ask. When I ordered the women was so kind and had great customer service! The restaurant us clean, welcoming and has a great atmosphere, food is 12/10!

The food is mind-blowingly good and the people are incredibly kind. We literally drive 4 hrs every couple months to come to the Mexican Hat...we also visit family but honestly the Mexican Hat is the peak of our trip! The guac is the best Ive ever had.

One of the best restaurants in Alberta, not in Edmonton nor Calgary but right in Medicine Hat! You can t go wrong with anything on their menu. In fact it s such a great restaurant that I m tempted to ask for something off-menu, that s how consistently good the food is from The Mexican Hat. You ll be greeted warmly as you enter by the lovely hostess and she ll also be your waitress/server. All the hot sauces are great. This place is not your typical faux-Mexican this is authentic Mexican so you ll enjoy the heat!

We are in Medicine Hat this weekend for a hockey tournament. After reading the many positive reviews we decided to try The Mexican Hat. Food, service and price exceeded our expectations. Ingredients were fresh and as authentic as Mexican food gets in Canada. The owners are super friendly, personable and very customer centric. This will be our go to spot next time we are in town. We had enchiladas and quesadillas. Portions were great!

What a hidden gem! So happy we discovered this place today. My daughter and I stopped in for lunch. Being a vegan, my daughter can have difficulty finding a place she enjoys but the staff was so friendly and helpful to her. She had a veggie burrito with refried beans. I had the taco al pastor. Both dishes were delicious, very filling and very affordable! The place itself is small but it didnt feel that way, the decor/atmosphere is very enjoyable. Customer service was top notch! Passing through Medicine Hat and thought the name was fun so we decided to stop. I can t wait to come through again! Food was excellent! We had salsa/guacamole and chips to start and it didn t disappoint. We had left over guacamole and weren t about to leave that behind. For our meals we had the smoked ham and barbacoa burritos. Meat was fantastic! Very tender, juicy and flavourful. Fixings inside were perfect along with the Mexican rice. Finally, I believe the lady working in the front is an owner as her husband was in the kitchen. She was a joy to speak to. Very fun, welcoming and gracious. Will be sharing this hidden gem with my family and friends. Parking: Lots of parking out front. Wheelchair accessibility: There was a person in the restaurant using a wheelchair.

This place is a wonderful little secret in Medicine Hat. The food is bursting with flavour with generous portions. I recommend ordering a few different kinds of the tacos to share and try them all. What an absolutely fantastic restaurant! Weve dined in a few times but recently we ordered takeout and when we got home and unloaded all the food, we found a extra surprise at the bottom. Another gem I need to highly recomend. An amazingly good Mexican restaurant. On a road trip heading back to the coast & stopped for an early lunch. Seeing the owners were from Mexico, I asked if they could do an off menu item.. Chilaquiles! OMG, the best Ive had since my trip to Arizona last January. Actually they were even better. Huge portion, so tasty, the right amount of heat, fresh & flavourful. And Yazmin, what a warm and pleasant lady. She just brightened my day with herr great service, beautiful smile...& thanks for the travel trips. Highly recomend this place....& maybe just maybe ask them if they can prepare you a plate of Marks Chilaquiles ...even if its not on the menu...you wont be dissapointed.

Just ordered dinner for our family from The Mexican Hat through Skip. The food quality was really good. My kids, who are fussy, loved their quesadilla and the Mexicali fries are Muy Bueno!! My Burrito Carne Asada had so much flavour, and the choice of sauces was appreciated too! I should add the portions were generous too. If you are wondering whether to try this place...trust me...do it. You wont regret it.

A hidden gem! We came to town from Brooks for the afternoon and had 3 incredibly hungry kids with us. The service was friendly and warm, and it was surprisingly super quick to get our food. Everything was hot and fresh, big portions and really authentic (the owner told us she is from Chihuahua). The restaurant itself is clean and welcoming. I highly recommend if you love Mexican food!

The food is amazing, some of the best Mexican food I have ever had. I lived in Mexico for 6 months and this food made my heart melt as I felt like I was back in Morelia. We showed up with four families, about 15 people and they served up great tacos el pastor, tortas, and burritos. The salsas were amazing, and the churros made the kids go wild. Highly recommend.

This place has the best mexican food south of Calgary! The staff is super friendly, the food tastes incredible and is reasonably priced and they have options for everyone! (Vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, etc.) They are a small family run business and everytime Im in the hat I stop here. Highly reccomend!!!

Was driving through Medicine Hat and had a craving for Mexican. The Mexican Hat did not let me down, the food was great and the staff were friendly. Assembling the food was quick so I didnt have to lose much time on my trip. Worth the detour from the highway.

I m confused by all the great reviews. I eat a lot of Mexican, this is below average. I got enchiladas and there was no effort put into them. The chicken was white unseasoned chicken breast (almost seemed canned), the medium sauce tasted like water, and there was zero effort or authenticity in these. The only thing that made it good was all the cheese piled on it, but other than that, pretty flavourless. We won t be coming back.

The most amazing mexican food!

I tend to discount reviews of small local restaurants especially speciality foods. Ill have to revise that bias. This was good Mexican food. We had a variety of tacos and each was what Id expect in a Mexican restaurant in Texas or Mexico. Very good tortillas, meat not lettuce filler and a variety of salsas from mild to hot. Cant wait to pass back through Medicine Hat on the way back from our TC trip.

It was great

First time getting food here yesterday and it s one of the best Mexican dishes I ve had! :) I got the enchiladas with refried beans on the side. Everything was delicious and perfectly seasoned! The chicken in the enchilada was a little dry and didn t have much taste. But the delicious green salsa on top defiantly helped with that, and the corn tortillas were soooo good. I loved pretty much all of it, even my little churro which was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I will defiantly be ordering again. Thank you for the delicious food!

Best place in Medicine Hat for Mexican food. Service was beyond amazing, and it tasted delicious. My mom and I ordered some enchiladas and a couple of tacos which got a little cold since we ate the enchiladas first. So we asked if our tacos could be reheated and unfortunately that was not possible due to possible food contamination and we understood that just fine, so we ate them anyways. After a couple of minutes, the same server/cashier comes with two tacos (which we didn t order) and apologizes once again. What an amazing gesture! Will definitely be back. (Also, I am not quite sure if there s a way of tipping at the front but I would ve loved to tip her because of her amazing service).

A really cute Mexican food eatery with a fun vibe. Kinda pricey but our family of 4 thought it was worth it! Small place ....huge portions! Authentic Mexican food and the friendly-est service imaginable! Thanks for a yummy supper! 100% recommend!

Staff is amazing and the food is always incredible

Had a fantastic lunch. They best Mexican food Ive had outside of Mexico. The whole family enjoyed their meal. Highly recommend the tortilla soup.
