The atmosphere is so lovely! Staff are attentive, professional and personal...& the FOOD IS AMAZING. Everything I have tried has exceeded expectations. I am so glad to have this option here in MH
Hometown is a true gem in Medicine Hat! The beautifully renovated space blends modern with cozy vibes, setting the perfect tone for an exceptional dining experience. The curated menu is a masterpiece, featuring bold, one-of-a-kind flavours. The staff are outstanding—warm, attentive, and passionate about making your visit special from the time you are welcomed until the bill is presented. Medicine Hat needed a place like this—where community, creativity, and impeccable service come together. Hometown is not just a meal; it’s an experience where heart, soul, and creativity shine. A must-visit for anyone in the area!
I recently had the pleasure of dining here, and I have to say, I was thoroughly impressed from start to finish. The quality and taste of the food were outstanding. The attention to detail was evident, whether it was the perfectly cooked Oso Buco or the delicate balance of spices in the corn chowder. I’ll come back forsure! One of the things that really stood out to me was the service. Unlike many places, they don’t prompt for a tip on the check, which I found to be such a refreshing approach. Overall, I would highly recommend Hometown to anyone looking for exceptional food and an enjoyable, stress-free dining experience.
Just an absolute change from the norm. This isn't just a restaurant....it's culinary. It isn't a chain, it's Hometown. If you ever want to feel like you are part of something, go to this place. Amazing food that will challenge everything you think you know. A place everyone can all enjoy while supporting some of the best food, service, decor and local love you will find.
This restaurant was great! The tourtière was super tasty and had a unique flavour that set it apart from any other meat pie I’ve ate. The servers were friendly, and the mocktails were delicious. Definitely worth a visit! The atmosphere was also cozy and homey. Getting the personal background stories on drink names and decor gives the place even more charm.
Phenomenal atmosphere, great service and amazing food. A perfect combination!
Review for Hometown Culinary From the moment we walked through the door, Hometown Culinary felt like, well, home. We were warmly greeted by one of the owners, whose genuine smile and welcoming energy made us feel like long-lost friends. This set the tone for an evening that was as much about comfort and connection as it was about exceptional food. The decor is a delightful blend of nostalgia and charm—like stepping into a cozy, elegant version of Grandma’s kitchen. Elements like a Singer sewing machine-turned-sink, eclectic scrolling lights, antique stoves, and reclaimed wooden doors transport you back to cherished childhood memories while still feeling fresh and unique. Our culinary journey began with two appetizers: the Pad Thai fries and the Beet & Chèvre salad. The fries were a creative twist—crispy, tangy, and irresistible—while the salad offered a perfect balance of earthy beets and creamy chèvre. For mains, we enjoyed the Salmon and Osso Buco. The salmon was flawlessly cooked, but the Osso Buco stole the show for me—tender, rich, and my first (and now favorite) taste of veal. Each dish was thoughtfully prepared and bursting with flavors that set Hometown Culinary apart from other local spots. Dessert was a fitting finale. We savored the classic tiramisu, light and decadent, and the fun, nostalgic s’mores in a cup—a delightful nod to childhood campfires. Beyond the fantastic food and ambiance, one standout detail sets Hometown Culinary apart: their commitment to paying staff a living wage, complete with health benefits. There’s no tip option here because they believe in taking care of their team. This thoughtful, ethical approach made our meal feel even more special. Hometown Culinary isn’t just a restaurant; it’s an experience—a warm embrace of incredible flavors, heartfelt hospitality, and a commitment to community. Highly recommended!
Great place. Great food. One of Medicine Hats hidden gems.
My husband and I went to Hometown for the first time today. The atmosphere was incredible-bright and modern. There is a collection of spoons, framed recipes and history pictures hanging on the walls upstairs. The staff is very polite, knowledgeable and prompt. The food was delicious-all local from shops in and around the Hat. No tip is expected-the waitress explained that they make a good wage and have benefits Wow! a boss that cares. I instantly liked this place even more! Highly recommend..We will be back! Note: Reservations are recommended. Kid-friendliness: There was a family playing cards when we walked upstairs. Great atmosphere!
An upscale brunch menu that is difficult to come by in Medicine Hat. Fantastic service by knowledgeable serving staff, and a creative and unique drink menu. We were informed by our server that employees are supplied with a proper living wage and benefits, which is fantastic to see in the restaurant industry. We will be supporting this high quality establishment, and are excited to indulge in their dinner service and special Sunday dinner experience.
Last night after months of waiting for their opening, we got to experience Home Town!! Immediately we were impressed and not disappointed in the slightest with their atmosphere and decor. The historic building with exposed brick, small cozy dining gave such an intimate feel and dining experience. Their menu although small was loaded with dishes filled with unique flavors and combinations. Dishes were unique with some giving praise to other dishes from around the world. We started with the bacon cream cheese dip served with mini pretzel loafs. This dip was unreal. Perfect amount of dip for the perfect about of loaves. Next, we had the salmon with carrots and corn and Brussels sprouts. Amazing spiced crust on the salmon, perfectly cooked and so much flavor with a little heat in the carrot and corn. The steak was the best steak I ve had in memory whether from The Keg, Major Tom or anywhere. Perfectly grilled, spiced to perfection and absolutely unbelievable flavor. To finish, we had to try 2 of their desserts. We devoured the Crème Brule and S more Parfait. The Crème Brule was the perfect finish to the dinner. We ventured upstairs to see their upper dining area complete with a date table and wall showing their families history including an old stove and singer sewing machines converted to bathroom sinks. Home Town was an amazing anniversary date night and we can t wait to go again, possibly for their weekly blind Sunday dinner where $90/person gets you a cocktail or mocktail, appetizer and main. Thank you.
