Luciano is a fantastic server, the food is always delicious. Make sure you make reservations because Cafe Zinc does not have a large number of tables, and their turnover isnt extremely quick.

I was looking for somewhere to take my mom for her 65th birthday this past Saturday. We had just enjoyed a wonderful day and I wanted to treat her to something nice. We chose cafe zinc over one eighteen because they had a vegan option on the menu. When we arrived we were greeted by the staff kindly and sat at our table. Our server was wonderful and attentive. However, lets go over the food. 1. We ordered their pear salad and Cesar to start. The pear salad had little to no dressing or flavor. The Cesar was one of the worst I had ever had. The greens were browning, the dressing was dull. We politely told our server and she kindly took it off the bill for us. We ordered apps (cranberry goat cheese, fries, and calamri) and all were wonderful. Our entrees on the other hand, a different story. My mother ordered the trout, which came out cold on a hot plate (unsure how that happens) and with little to no flavor. We had to send back to be reheated. My sister tried to order the vegan mushroom dish and we were told they were out without any alternative options. At 5 oclock on a Saturday we were surprised they were out let alone without any other option (1 of the reasons we chose the restaurant). My sister and I ended up splitting the salmon with maple mustard. Our salmon had a spoon full of spicy ground mustard with salmon on top that was so dry I could not cut through the skin. I know it may seem as though we are nit picking or picky eaters (which it takes a lot for me to even speak up and send something back) however, when paying over $200 for a meal and close to $300 after a tip, the expectations were a little higher. Times are tough right now for a lot of people and spending that kind of money to do something special for my mother, it didnt feel worth it. Disappointed to say the least.

The menu is small so I had hoped it was fine-tuned. We ordered an appetizer and two entrees. None of them were anything to rave about. However someone sent a dessert to our table. The fruit tart was delicious.

Rosemary Parmesan fries are real nice. 2 other vegan options we tried tasted very mediocre (and were expensive!) : Vegan Pad Thai, Vegetarian Ravioli.

Took my GF here on a date today. She works hard, so I wanted to take her someplace bougie. Food was really good. Wine was even better. A little fancy for my blue collar butt, but she loved it. The staff was really friendly and chill. The mignon and bolognese was really good. Three stouts and moscoto were REALLY good. Make sure you bring $150 at least.

Great place for breakfast in Midland. We stayed at The H Hotel and ate here for breakfast. Check out the tri-bridge if you are staying there too.

Super slow service. No one refilled our water glasses even though she kept walking by and seeing them empty or nearly empty. We were there for 1 hour 15 mins for a lunch of salad, wrap and fish tacos.

The food was exceptionally flavorful and not too pricey! The atmosphere was delightful and welcoming ..the waiters did their best to keep up with the amount of patrons and they rocked it!

This is the best restaurant! The service is top notch! The appetizers and entrees are very creative and delicious! Alyson served us and Im not sure that a waitress could do a better job!

My recent visit to Zink Cafe was extremely disappointing. Despite being seated promptly at a high top, the service went downhill from there. After ordering soup, eggs benedict, and a French dip sandwich, we watched as five tables seated after us received and finished their meals before we even got our soup. When it finally arrived, our server informed us that someone else had taken it, brushing off the mistake with a casual it happens. Throughout the ordeal, our server failed to check in or offer any explanation for the delay. After waiting an additional 20 minutes with no sign of our food, we decided to approach the manager to pay for the soup and leave. Unfortunately, the manager showed little concern or remorse, simply charging us for the soup and letting us go. This level of service was by far the worst Ive experienced in quite some time. Disappointing doesnt even begin to describe it. Wish i could leave 0 stars. Not to mention, I am six months pregnant and was very hungry.

Saturday morning. No reservations. We were told there would be a wait. Expected. We were unexpectedly offered coffee in pre warmed mugs! Wow! We had great service and delicious eggs Benedict. We will be back!

We are regular customers and just had the worst service I have had in years. We dine in Midland for better service and were treated terribly. We were not greeted in a timely manner, our soup took 30-40 minutes to come out. Our server did not address us or the issue directly he maid a few comments walking behind us about the soup being taken to the wrong table and that it happens. Our waters were empty. We waited another 30 minutes and still no food. We got up and spoke to the manager about the problem she was oblivious to the issues in the dining room. A number of tables were not greeted. And were suffering from poor service all around us. I asked to pay for the soup we did receive be it very late we got it. We paid she wanted to box up our food but we left. My pregnant wife was very hungry and needed to eat so we left. Here two weeks later I am seeing a charge on my credit card for the food we never received. This is not a high class establishment as we were previously under the impression it was. We have dined here numerous times over the years and this has been the worst experience. I am trying to get ahold of Mara the manager about this and am not having any luck. I will try again I am disturbed that two week later I am seeing a charge on my credit card for this food I never received. A hotel like this should be much better.

Upscale is the best word to describe Zinc Cafe. It s inside the lavish H hotel in the heart of downtown Midland. I stopped for breakfast and had their shaved steak version of eggs Benedict and all I can say is that I enjoyed every bite. One of the best breakfasts I ve ever had although I would ve preferred home fries I m not a big fan of hash browns. In my opinion hash browns are a chef s cop out from preparing breakfast potatoes from scratch. The prices were also upscale but not ridiculous.

Great place to start your evening or end your evening with a drink. Bartenders very attentive and deliver great service.

So...Parker the Barista/busboy at the counter was the Only saving grace. He made us excellent lattes and was super polite. Our actual waitress was unattentive. When our food arrived, (Quiche) Do not purchase, Both were cold in the middle. When I mentioned this to the waitress, (Meagan...on the receipt, which I had to ask for, as she was not wearing a name tag/badge) she laughed. The other waitress just ignored my statement. So her name could be something else. Either way, all waitstaff was unwilling to offer any kind of competent help. Overall, it was a horrible experience for a place that gives off a facade of class without having the waitstaff or culinary skills to match it. Pre-made boxed food items you could get at Aldis. Parker was the Only person who was polite and offered amazing service. Which is why the place gets 1 star. Just an awful experience and I was just trying to take my niece to a quality cafe...this is not it. Oh the pic is of the armpit which they call Art. I still tipped Parker and the waitress even though her service was not what one with decorum would hope for. I hope it will made someone in that restaurant smile...

Tried dinner recently and overall was disappointed. Atmosphere and service were OK, but food quality was hit or miss given the higher end pricing. Appetizers - parm frites and french onion soup were good. Chef and Fattoush salads were fresh but very basic. Entrees took forever to arrive and gnocchi and cauliflower seemed scorched. Desserts were good, especially the mousse cake and macarons, but couldn t make up for the other issues.

Beautiful, classy location in Downtown Midland. Delicious food, with great vegan options. Dessert is a must. The Key lime tart is amazing!

TLDR: Good food, but pricy. ($68 for one cocktail, a steak, and a tip) Allot a good two hours for a meal here or you ll feel rushed. Manager has a bit of an attitude, hopefully just caught her on a bad day. Overall, I ll likely give them another chance but I think we made a poor choice in restaurants for doing dinner and a show. I went with my great aunt and my mom as my great aunt had been here before with a friend and really enjoyed it. I didn t care for the attitude of the manager, she needs some additional training on customer service. We showed up a little early for our reservation and they hadn t cleared the table yet, which was totally fine. A couple walked in without a reservation and was immediately seated. My great aunt got a little anxious that we got forgotten about and inquired why they got seated first. The manager gave us a ton of attitude and told us that we needed to wait 2 whole minutes for them to finish up. As someone who has worked in customer service for 7 years, I know there were much more polite and less rude ways to handle the situation. We did eventually get seated, even before our reservation time which we appreciated. I believe we were seated by 5:50 when our reservation was at 6. The waitress was excellent and attentive. We ordered our food and drinks at the same time (highly recommend!). Our drinks came out quickly and were very good. I got the Paloma and my mother got some white wine. We chatted and enjoyed ourselves and then noticed the time was now 6:30 and we still hadn t gotten our food. Normally I wouldn t care but we had a 7:30 show we had to catch and were planning on leaving at 7. We gently checked in with the waitress and the food was out within 10 minutes. I ordered the Filet Mignon, my mom ordered the Salmon, and my great aunt ordered the broiled branzino. I ordered my steak medium and it came a little over medium well. Otherwise my dish was excellent. Asparagus was some of the best I ve ever had. Potatoes were basically fancy scalloped potatoes, but still very tasty. Sauce on the steak was delicious, but surprisingly spicy. Not overwhelming but not what I anticipated. My mother said she enjoyed her salmon. She regularly cooks it at home and is hesitant to try it at restaurants as it s difficult to get right. She said the salmon exceeded her expectations and was something above what she could cook at home. My great aunt enjoyed her boiled branzino (which was a white fish), but the menu stated it was supposed to come with lump crab and it was either so small it blended in with the quinoa or wasn t included. My biggest disappointment was that we ran out of time for dessert as the dessert case looked absolutely delicious from top to bottom.

Service was not good this time. Had reservations and still had to wait quite a while. Then confusion as to where they wanted to seat us. Once seated, no one was assigned to our table. Food is usually excellent, but as not up to their usual high standards. Have been there many times and was very disappointed in our visit. We were celebrating our daughters graduation, and she at one point suggested we go somewhere else because of the fact that no one was waiting on us. The hostess was rude. Disappointing

My wife and I stayed at the H hotel on the same property and decided to visit Cafe Zinc at 8:30am for a quick breakfast before we checked out. The food, ambiance, and waitress were all amazing. However, the host, Thomas, ruined our otherwise great experience. He scolded us on 3 separate occasions for not having breakfast reservations, even though the restaurant was almost completely empty and there were dozens of tables available. First, he scolded us at the host stand, then he took us outside and chastised us again, and then went off yet again when he seated us at a table. The breakfast we had was amazing and by the time we left, the restaurant was still dead. So, I m not sure why Thomas felt the need to act the way he did. He needs training and to be reminded that he is there to serve the guests, not chastise them. Remember this is a restaurant in the small town of Midland, Michigan, not Manhattan. Be more Midwest-friendly next time.

This is nice little cafe on Main Street in my hometown. I wanted something a bit upscale to treat my daughter-in-law. It is nicely decorated. The noise level was high, probably due to metal ceiling and large plate glass windows. The food was excellent. Good presentation, nice without being pretentious. The service, however, left much to be desired. The food was brought to the table, the waitress was gone, not to be seen again until long after we had finished and finally flagged her down. More water would have been very nice and we had wanted dessert. I have little patience for poor service when I can see no reason for it. (Other tables nearby had other servers and excellent service) I may try Cafe Zinc on my upcoming visit because the food was very good and I want to give it another chance. If the service is improved it will likely become my go-to for taking friends and family to lunch.

Great café for a unique breakfast experience! We sat outside on the covered patio and were able to enjoy a delicious breakfast over steaming cups of coffee. I tried the Shrimp Caprese Benedict, and my partner tried the Cubano Benedict. Both were cooked perfectly with a variety of flavors. Im definitely looking forward to dining here in the future!

I am generally very tolerant and patient with staff, but after standing in the entrance for well over 10 minutes, the young man working as host walked past us repeatedly without saying a word, he eventually just turned his back to us and started straightening the menus! There was NOBODY ELSE waiting. I truly felt snubbed. At the very least, train your host to ADDRESS guests who are waiting to be seated. Perhaps a simple I will be with you ladies in just a moment! wouldnt be too much to ask? I then approached him and ASKED- Is this a reservations only establishment? He then informed us that it would take him 10 minutes to clear a table, at which point I said that was unacceptable and we left. GREET your guests. Acknowledge them. Then waiting for a table is fine! Looks like a lovely Cafe. Its a shame the host ruined my brief experience.

We went there for lunch today with two ladies from out of town for a work meeting. We raved about the food & service and it wasn t good. Very slow service, luke warm water to drink, and our salads were small, brown lettuce mixed throughout and barely any dressing. An okay amount of chicken but not how I remember this caesar salad in the past that was a gorgeous display and delicious. Had to ask for drink refills, butter and when we asked for dessert choices we were told to got look at the counter and tell them what you want?

Wonderful deli in the heart of Midland. Quaint, yet modern town, with a ping pong table in the street, scooters for rent, and couches to relax on or have a bite. Highly recommend. Will be back to explore more!

I want to give this 5, but the service is just not at a 5 star rating. Ive been here twice recently. Once for dinner and the other for lunch. I dont remember the service being too bad the first time. Now for lunch, it was terribly slow. The major issue with that is that they werent busy and almost seemed over staffed. We were sitting outside and could see inside a lot of staff just talking behind the bar. Took 10 minutes to get our waters. There were tables around us that were done, and the table did not get cleaned. Which only brought more bees in. Had to track down another staff member just to get our check. The food was good. Id still go back again.

My husband and I came for a breakfast after having a procedure done in Midland. I wanted a good eggs Benny. Food was good! Our server was very kind and nice. We got swarmed by bees on the patio and requested our bills and boxes to prevent getting stung, which was expected for this time of year and not at fault of the staff. What I didn t appreciate was that gratuity was added to our check and we were not informed of it, nor was it stated on our check. I don t know if it s customary for this establishment for a party of 2 or that they judged a book by its cover as I previously mentioned I had a procedure in the early morning so we were in comfy clothes. We typically tip extremely well. 25-30% or more. But unfortunately this left a bad taste in our mouth and we will not be back. If this is customary for this establishment, I would love to know and also it should be stated on the receipt.

For the little town of Midland, this was a big surprise. When the name says Cafe one is not expecting the upscale atmosphere and menu, that is if one is an out of towner. We didnt have the apparently needed reservation but they accommodated us anyway, much to or delight. Chef salad was excellent and the mousse cake Devine!

Such a cute, upscale breakfast, brunch, lunch spot. Many choices. Fresh baked goods. Coffee was delicious. Friendly, efficient service. Great spot for Lady Lunching!

Our waiter was so sweet, kind, efficient, and professional.

I had the Pan Roasted Sea Scallops. They are hands down the best in the area! The scallops were cooked perfectly, and the cous cous has a nice subtle sweetness.

Friendly, competent staff provided fast, accurate service. Excellent food and appropriate portions. Hashbrowns were perfect. Omelet was fluffy and bursting with flavor. Eggs Benedict was terrific. Oatmeal and blueberry pancakes were a hit with 4 & 2 year old. Classic wooden high chairs. Crayons and complimentary coloring sheets were appreciated. Clean restrooms with changing station. Cinnamon roll to go was perfect for travel, not too dry to crumble, not too gooey to share, held together by generous frosting, which wasnt too buttery. I wish I could have tried another still hot from the oven. Next time...

Over priced for average.

Cafe Zinc is consistently good. It had been 10 years since going there, and it was exactly like I had remembered it. The restaurant was clean and well kept. The Ceasar Salad with chicken was excellent. They also offer brunch on Sundays. I highly recommend this place.

Restaurant was noisy. The first three items I tried to order they were out of. When you get down to your fourth choice you are bound to be disappointed. But desert was good.

My first experience at Cafe Zinc was lovely. The atmosphere reminded me of a Manhattan restaurant (chic but cozy). The food was delicious and our service was prompt and professional. A great spot for girls brunch or date night.

Nice atmosphere and very friendly staff. The only thing i could say is the beatuful pastry is right when you come in and all I wanted to do was to eat those instead of the meal!

Tried to have a nice breakfast this morning. Not seated right away. Restaurant had 3 tables that were being used in the entire place, but we were told by the hostess, she had to see if she could fit us in, since we didnt have a reservation. We were seated on the porch. We waited. No one came with water or to take our order, so we left. Were very disappointed. The attitude of the hostess, left much to be desired.

Dietary restrictions: Not vegan friendly. Choice if oatmeal or fruit for way too much money.

The memorial meal for my Aunt was lovely and the staff was super at tending everything and keeping it full and fresh.

Breakfast turned to be Brunch. I visited Cafe Zinc around 10:00, the host said only selected seats are available as I didnt had reservation. I accepted the available seat, within 5 mins another girl dropped by and filled glass with water, I ordered a cup of coffee, it was delivered in 2 mins, at 10:08, I had coffee and glass of water and girl said server will be with me shortly. New visitors kept on coming, and they started to get their orders placed and breakfast served, but no one came to take my order. I had finished cup of coffee, around 10:48, a girl saw me siting idle and asked, if I want refill for my coffee, then I said no one came to take my order. This is when they went in Sorry and apology mode, and took my order. By the time I finished breakfast, it was 11:40.

First time there and OMG! The food and atmosphere was phenomenal. If you havent at there yet, you definitely need to try it our first yourself, you wont regret it.

Very good food statler chicken yum and the carrot cake was amazing !!! So fresh and tasty!! One of the best carrot cakes ever. Waitresses were friendly! Ours was good but not great. Cute little place to eat . But they close at 4pm.

Food is sooo good

Met some friends for lunch, first time at this beautiful restaurant. Food was outstanding and I loved the quaint little town of Midland.

Not impressed, worst service for this type of restaurant. (Sunday Brunch) server was un attentive to the extent that the hostess had to get me a coffee refill. I had to get my own refill even with her standing by another table with coffee in her hand. Another server had to go look for her for my check, then she vanished again. So after that just went and paid my bill myself while she stood there and chatted with her co-workers. This is very unfortunate for the chef because the dish prepared for me was excellent. I m embarrassed for him/her.

I m disappointed to even feel compelled to leave this review, but the experience we had was so egregiously bad it s unavoidably necessary. We were guests of a wedding in the hotel the night before. The party met for breakfast at 10AM. There was not enough seating available for everyone. The hostess was less than helpful. We waited a solid 20 minutes before even being seated. It went downhill from there. Our table of four waited for an hour without so much as being checked on or having a drink order taken before finally having to ask if we were even assigned to a server. We had not been. After an hour, watching quite literally every single table that arrived after us eat and finish their meals, we finally had our orders taken. We waited another half an hour before being informed there had been a system error and our orders had not been submitted but were assured they would be and would be rushed. By the hour and forty minute mark with nothing but coffee, our food orders finally exited the kitchen, only to be dropped and shattered on the floor. At no point did a manager or anyone in charge check in with us, apologize, anything. After watching our meals hit the floor we left without even having been able to eat. 2 hours wasted without so much as an apology from anyone in charge. I can t express in words how utterly unacceptable it is the way this establishment is run. 0/10. Would absolutely not recommend. There s a fantastic little crepe place around the corner (within walking distance) I d suggest for anyone expecting to actually be allowed to, you know, eat.

Our waiter David was pleasant and attentive. The croq sandwich was healthy in size and taste. Thanks for good service

Terrible experience today. We waited an hour and 45 minutes for our food and never got it. The hostess needs training on how to perform basic tasks for her job. Someone lost our ticket so our food order was delayed multiple times. Our server was trying her best, but she managed to spill our entire order onto another diner s back. We walked out.

Great service, good food. Nice atmosphere. Value for money is just okay.

Outstanding food and great staff at a better price than I would expect for this caliber of restaurant

Cafe Zinc Eggs Benedict was delicious . The hash browns were cooked perfectly and no need for ketchup they were seasoned perfectly. Our server Meagan was on point. I was able to ask for a drink that wasn t on the menu and it was probably one of the best tequila espresso martinis I have had. Jeff and I will be making this establishment a regular stop

Classy cafe with good breakfast attached to the H in downtown Midland.

Our waiter was incredible, very knowledgeable and personable. The past few times Ive been here, Ive noticed VERY slow service, good, but slow.

Ever since moving to Midland this past August for some temporary work, I d heard good things about Café Zinc, and have been itching to go. My brother s birthday was the perfect opportunity to check it out. And yes, it was as good as advertised. Near 70 degree weather (in November, no less) made sitting at one of the outdoor tables a treat. Our waiter, Luciano, was attentive and professional with a nice, low-key sense of humor. My lunch partners began with a tasty, albeit different take on our Lebanese family favorite, hommos, followed by a Caesar salad with chicken and a Croque Monsieur with a side of Parmigiano-Regiano pommes frites (thin n crispy fries). Plates were duly cleaned. I ordered the same frites to go with a duck confit salad, the latter of which was tender and juicy, if not quite as hot as I would have liked. All these goodies were accompanied by a couple of glasses of a refreshingly smooth 2019 Arona Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand, a 2016 Drouhin Chardonnay from Burgundy, and a 2019 Camina Tempranillo from Castilla, Spain. It was a very nice lunch experience. And my sister-in-law has a birthday next month. Guess where we re going?

Love this place!

Omg We love this place! We have been to the H Hotel three times and everytime we eat breakfast at Cafe Zinc . I usually order the Avocado Toast but this time I tried the Shrimp Toast Benedict english muffin, red curry shrimp mousseline, poached eggs, sriracha hollandaise, hash browns. We are here right now. I would post a photo but , my plate is empty now. Lol! It was delicious , I had to write a review right away.

I dine there at least once a week on average. The staff is outstanding and I have never had a bad meal there never ever.!! Their breakfasts are the best in the Great Lakes Bay Region. They treat you like family .

Excellent service and the food was excellent!

Beautiful little Cafe inside The H. Decor was beautiful, food delicious. We shared a sandwich and both ordered soup, this was plenty of food. French Onion soup was super tasty. Highly recommend!

I love that they change up the menu

This has always been the best Midland has to offer. The service is attentive and positive. A special place that works hard on all they try.
