The Explorers Cafe is a celebration of exploration in all its forms – geographic, scientific, musical, artistic and culinary. We pay tribute every day to those who went before, and through their inspiration, broaden our collective experience. Driven by the age-old desire to see what is over the next hill or across the water, the explorer is fuelled by the lure of the unknown, the undeniable thrill of discovery, and the enduring enrichment that new knowledge brings. Whether one discovers a new continent or cocktail, song or salad, to discover we must first explore!
The decor of the restaurant is fantastic - it's light and comfortable, with beautiful pictures of locations all over the world on all of the walls. It seems that they change their menu periodically to be from one part of the world at a time - when I visited, the menu was all Mediterranean cuisine. The food was absolutely delicious, and my favourite was actually the appetiser, Spanokopita. It's like a small pie stuffed with cheese and pita, and I could have eaten that as my full meal.
I had dinner with my family for Thanksgiving, and we all ordered the Thanksgiving special. It was amazing, in my opinion. My family and I enjoyed this 3 course meal. We got soup, a main course, and dessert for $28. Definitely will dine here again.
Went there for our anniversary dinner in early September. Excellent service and the food was delicious. I had the sous vide salmon and my wife had the salmon penne and both were great. We splurged for apps drinks and dessert to which brought our bill up but the prices are quite reasonable. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a nice sit down dinner.
Not impressed. Our second time there. Our first time the restaurant just opened and we were all served our food at different times. Some courses came cold when it should have been hot. Some finished their dinner when others just got theirs. We decided to go back again a year later. The service was much better although there were very few people in the restaurant at 7:00 pm. We ordered 2chicken souvlaki dinners where we had to order the Greek salad separately. The dinner for 2 people with a $48.00 bottle of wine was $140.00 plus tip. We looked at the other main dishes and found they were over priced. Not worth the price.
Really great food, everything tasted fresh and delicious. Really amazing drinks, and great atmosphere.
Been eating at different restos for the last five nights, this has been by far, the BEST one. Delicious food, made fresh to order, NOT FROZEN, prices are great for the quality you get. Thank you so much Explorers, for your phenomenal service and flavour ⭐️🤩⭐️
We come to Midland quite often in the summer and were happy to visit this place! Most of the places offer deep fried stuff and here everything is made from scratch. The interior of the restaurant is charming, they have a nice patio as well. Portion size is on the bigger size and everything tasted delicious. Our waitress was wonderful and very attentive, especially to our children. We loved everything and will definitely be back.
Where do I start… The food is simply divine, the service is beyond amazing and the decor is on point. I’ve eaten here a few times, in house and for take out. Unfortunately I had forgotten to take photos while dinning in, but the Mushroom Risotto was perfectly made, the Lamb Shank was absolutely mouth watering, and the Truffle Burger and Truffle fries are a favourite of mine. Autumn was my server both times, throughly enjoyed her service and her dedication to her customers. For the price, you get what you pay for. Will be back more often! Thanks again
New owners do not due this restaurant justice. The appetizers were tasty but the main courses were a rip off. The 12 Oz steak was more like a 7oz. The chicken risotto, well it was hard to find the chicken, when I did it seemed like chopped up bits of chicken that didnt sell yesterday. Also the chicken stock for it seemed like it was made from chicken bouillon cubes... Sorry not going back
The sauteed prawn appetizer was amazing...
Lovely little restaurant, but we ordered 3 dishes: - carbonara pasta - risotto (much too salty!) - vegetable side dish (never served) Too bad to forget 1/3 of the order, especially when youre the only ones in the restaurant. We are not even offered dessert, directly the bill. Damage.
Excellent food! Great service! Its a literal hidden gem in Midland!
Hidden Gem in Midland. We will be back soon.
Our first time there will definitely make us go back. Great food and service!
They think they re worth more than they are , and that their staff is worth less than they are Ridiculously overpriced for no reason, because the only thing fine dining about this place, is the prices the owners are extremely unprofessional and make shady moves (against their own family *AND* staff!!) some of the food has good flavour (like the lamb and the souvlaki (some days ,as long as it s not too fatty ) but *NOTHING* here is special enough to be priced the way it is! I wish them the success they deserve or lack thereof!
Great food and excellent service!
Had a wonderful dinner last night. I would highly recommend giving them a try.
Best lunch we had in Midland. Excellent drinks and chef prepared food. Dog friendly patio that is quiet and clean. Highly recommend.
Greek salad was surprisingly plain and tomatoes were not of good quality. Salmon and pasta were good, but honestly everything was quite overpriced, even considering today s prices. Unfortunately won t be repeat customers due to the very high prices.
Hidden gem, unique wines youll wont get at any other bar. Cocktails are hand made and delicious!
We had an amazing time and great food at explorers bistro Everything was perfectly cooked and had SO MUCH FLAVOUR!! Incredible service and live music. Can t wait to come back up to Midland to try other foods on the menu! Food
A group of friends drove from Barrie to Midland for lunch at Explorers Bistro. We met at Explorers Bistro at 11:55am for lunch, as their website, Google hours, and posted hours at the front door said they open at 12pm. We sat on their front patio waiting for nearly half an hour, and no one came. I called the restaurant and left a message, saying we are going to start shopping up and down the street and to please call me when they open so we can come back for lunch. Its been 26 hours and still no one has called me. We ended up eating at another establishment (I highly recommend Zancas, down the street!). Its a shame we drove all that way to eat there, and it was closed. I can only assume there was some form of an emergency, but then someone should have called me today. Unfortunately, this is a display of poor customer service.
Amazing last minute decision to eat here. Risotto greek souvlaki and gyros best we have had. I hope we get back to Midland again soon
This is just a beware for patrons. My husband had lunch and ordered a glass of Chardonnay. He assumed he would be getting the house wine but no they only have one Chardonnay and without telling him his bill came and it was $33 for a glass. The bottle at LCBO is $26. How do you justify that? He tried to talk to the owner but she in so many words said so what. They really should let patrons know when ordering that they only have one and the price, whether it s on the menu or not.
WOW... DELICIOUS! Service was AAA #1, So glad we found you. Live Music was wonderful.
You can call this place a hidden gem. Cozy and friendly with good food and drinks. Excellent service and fair prices.
A fun night with live music to celebrate tartan day!
Great food and great service
Good food Good service Good price Food : 5/5
We had a retirement party here and it was perfect. Great food, service and atmosphere. Can t wait to go back!
Risotto was rich and delicious.
Classy Atmospher, great first date experience...international flare! Gracious Hostesses & servers. Wonderful flavourful food!
Was so looking forward to this but we didn t find it as amazing as some of the reviews. My wife had the carbonnera and was underwhelmed. The phylo dough feta came out quite overdone. I had the signature dish, which I can t remember, but it was quite good! The drinks were drinks and we didn t stay for dessert. Overall just ok.
Charming place with excellent service and amazing food.
The Explorers Cafe is no more. Its replacement the Explorers Bistro is a pale comparison to the original. Atmosphere is bright but fine overall. Service was at best disappointing. Food and drink order taken by bartender (we were the only customers in the place) and would meet our waitress later as she was not yet in the building. Drinks arrived in reasonable amount of time but our appetizer never arrived. Meal was presented after a considerable amount of time and apologizes given for missing app. Mushroom risotto was average ( pale and missing mushrooms). Smokey burger ($22.00) was made with a 6 oz frozen patty (thin, gray, dense and overcooked). Side fries were over seasoned, lukewarm, and limp. No comp offered for missing app so no need to try a dessert. Won t return.
Had the salmon penne and it was delicious with lots of salmon chunks. Our table also had the carbonara and Smokey burger and enjoyed them as well. (The beer and wine were reasonably priced as well.) The servers couldn t have been more pleasant. We went for the Sunday night dinner and trivia and had a fun night out. Would recommend it!
A lot of really unique wines
First time and very happy. Went for lunch and the quantity of food on our plates was huge. Excellent service and atmosphere.
This place is a hidden gem .hats off to the cheff and staff . Mellow music in the patio and beautiful environment inside 5 stars. Would highly recommend Explores cafe . Food
Very nice place with a pleasant atmosphere and thoughtful decor. All the food was of high quality and we were impressed, the salmon was especially delicious. The service was a bit too slow considering the cafe was almost empty, but overall we had a good time.
So happy to have come back to the Explorers Bistro. New menu is well balanced - vegetarian options as well - and leans towards Greek cuisine. Very good overall.
Great food lovely staff. Loved the mushroom risotto Parking: Free street parking after 5 and some Spots in the back I think. Wheelchair accessibility: I believe the entrance and tables are all accessible. They have accessible washroom also.
Good food and great atmosphere!
Not what it used to be. I was excited to return after a couple of years of no travel. Waited almost 30 minutes before I was served a drink (this is Monday early evening). Food, wine selection and service disappointing compared with previous experiences. Wont be in a hurry to return.
Good start for a new chef/owner. Will go again soon to see if promise holds.
We wish the new owners luck. Several of us went to see how the food was. The lamb shank was good, the steak (very very thin for the price) was ok, the crispy chicken sandwich is a potential tooth breaker, uber crispy, yet the fries were kind of limp. Atmosphere is ok, interesting ceiling treatment with corks, but unless you are from Midland, tough to find the place. We know prices have soared in the area, but the new owners should take a number of occasions to test their competition for pricing as Explorers now is head shakingly high. We will wait for some time to try it again. We wish them luck!
Its good.
Very happy to see a new restaurant in town. Everything from food to atmosphere was great, upgrade from the old Explorers Cafe, in my opinion. Just wish a single cocktail was not $15. But overall, definitely recommended and will be back. ** would loooooove to see spanakopita on the menu, there isnt much better than homemade spanakopita.
Newly decorated with a cozy ambiance and outdoor seating. The food was delicious, and was obvious that it was all made in house from scratch. The cocktails were great, especially the margaritas with the fresh lime juice. Recommend and will return.
I went to Midland for summer vacation, and Im glad I ate so much delicious food. I wasnt expecting much, but the food was better than expected. If I go to Midland again, I definitely want to go there again. Food : 5/5
Fine dining prices with fast food service! Sat for 15 minutes before even being approached by a server. Food was very good though!
What a beautiful, tucked away restaurant. We were in Midland for the day and stopped here for dinner before our ride home. I had the mushroom risotto and it was divine. It was our first time out that way and I cannot wait to come back!
We had a really lovely experience here. Our service was so nice (Felicity was our sever) atmosphere cozy and nice with really interesting decor including artist made cork continents! Food was yummy and we really enjoyed our visit. Only feedback would be to have a kids menu, more wine by the glass and more desert options. That said they accommodated the kids with split adult portions and our wine was delicious despite us picking the top of the line :)
I was looking forward to a good meal. Gyro went back to kitchen as the meat was extremely fatty, greasy and basically not edible. Manager agreed it was unusually fatty and offered to replace. Second version was still very oily. Even though Manager said Gyro meat is a fatty cut, this meat was subpar. French fries were limp. Not even close to being worth $28.
The service and atmosphere was excellent. Most of the options were very pricy or didnt have enough protein. I ordered the spaghetti carbonara for $26 plus tax + tip and I have attached the picture
Excellent Food and Friendly Service. Recommend Highly !!
Excellent food and very good service. We would recommend this restaurant.
The portions are abit on the small side for the pricing but the quality of the food does make up for it. The service wasnt very good. The woman was not very friendly at all. I will still go back for the food just not as often as I would if the portions and service was better.
I had the lamb. Very interesting way to cook it. Not traditional. The texture was odd and there wasn t a lot of flavors. Brussel sprouts didn t have a lot of flavor. Kind of disappointed. The rest of our party seemed to not be impressed with the food like before they closed down a few yrs back. Wine was great.
I had never eaten here before and thought I d give it a try for take out. Food was very meh . The fries were soaking in grease. The chicken Caesar salad burger was less than desirable. The breaded chicken breast was very dry and bland and had no flavour. The lettuce used was of poor quality with more chunks of the bottom steam than the nice green leafy part. This dish could be good but it was very poorly executed. The portion of fries was skimpy as well. After your reply and lie, I definitely wouldn t give you a second chance I was with my friend who went in and picked it up, and we were told it would be ready in approximately 15 minutes in which we arrived. We were not 20 minutes late. Where did I mention once about the food being cold in my review? It floors me that you would reply and lie to make yourself look better for your poor food quality
What to say about this place. Ive been there with my family. Nice and worm place with excellent service. The food was incredible, especially my child loved Souvlaki. Me and my wife choose Truffle Burger and Roasted Lamb Shank combined with an Explorers Salad.
Incredible food! Fresh taste and great flavours and all cooked to perfection.
Not to be confused with the previous Explorers Restaurant - this is the same location, but a new owner since Summer 2023. The food is excellent, but I found the prices quite steep, especially for Midland. If that doesnt bother you, then definitely give it a try.
Excellent dining and experience... Food is delicious and not what you expect in a small town!
*ATTENTION PATRONS WITH CHILDREN* It s nice to have this spot reopened for something different downtown. We live downtown and love supporting the local restaurants. However there are many small families in Midland and I m not sure if this is being done on purpose but I was charged $18.00 + tax for some plain spaghetti noodles for my toddler. That s excessive. I thought about not ordering her anything because I didn t see any kid options but I thought it would be better for us to each have a meal and support a reopened business. I m always more than happy to pay the prices at any place with quality food and small businesses. But if there is not a more reasonable option for a small child I will not be returning to this establishment. *UPDATE* Clearly management did not read my review that I like to support local businesses in the area. They choose to respond to my rather fair comments on the price of plain noodles with condescending remarks. Will not be recommending or returning.
Lovely Evening Out! Attended a tasting for the Piedmonte region in Italy. Food was excellent and my favourite was the dumpling stuffed with rabbit, pork and herbs and drizzled with a roasted meat jus; and the risotto with black truffles - spectacular! Also loved the narrative that Rob provided explaining the each dish and the paired wine. Jen and the rest of the staff did a great job. Overall a lovely night out and great value. We will definitely return. Thank you!
Excellent food & service with a unique atmosphere. Loved it!
Must go, great menu and staff
What a cool story behind this place
We were in Midland overnight and totally lucked out in making a reservation here. The decor and atmosphere is fun and creative from the ceiling (6 foot wooden shark hanging from the ceiling to wine cork relief maps of the continents) to many found objects from the couple s work and travels abroad. The wine selection is extensive and from around the world housed in a beautiful wine cellar with glass window. And the food! - fresh, inventive and something for everyone. (Unfortunately we were two nights too early for the popular monthly prix fixed Argentinian themed tapas menu.) Lucky Midland to have this couple settle in your town. Toronto could use one (or more) of these unique places! When I travel around Ontario, this is the type of place I love to discover ! Note, the restaurant is not directly on King Street, but down a little lane way across from the commanding romanesque Midland library.
We loved this place! Unique atmosphere, delicious food, excellent wine recommendation and great service overall. No lack in quality or presentation despite offering food from a range of different styles/ethnic backgrounds. If we were in the area for longer we would definitely come back!
Very good food, very nice staff. Recommended for anyone in the Midland area. Try Robs Ribs, they fell right off the bone!
Awesome food, wonderful people and a perfect place to share with family and friends.
Best food in town.
Fantastic meal, as always, at Explorers. One of the best restaurants anywhere and I would recommend it to anybody looking for great food in the Midland area.
2/6 plates were luke warm, one was cold. Contrary to the owners response, I only report what my experience is and am not looking for any personal benifits, but perform reviews for the publics general info. Maybe the owner could take my review and use it to improve the quality of the experience.
Valentines dinner 2019 was awesome! Especially the Tuna Tataki-hemp seed-crusred Ahi tuna loin on a crisp, Asian vegetable salad with wabsabi, and a citrus, ginger and soy sauce. Love love love this place and I am a very discerning.
Superb food. Interesting story behind the establishment. Love the wine bottle cork sculptures on the ceiling of Antarctica (ties in with interesting story) and South America. Presumably more continents coming with more wine sold.
The decor is very original with art and artifacts from all kinds of cultures. Everything was wonderful! The menu is insane the food incredible and the staff and owner are all very friendly and helpful 12/10 amazing
Excellent food and service, we had a wonderful time
Attended the food and wine pairing event last night featuring the country of Georgia. The owners are fantastic hosts and it was an enjoyable and delicious event. Will make a point of visiting this restaurant more often when we are in cottage country.
Everything was delicious! The curry dip was excellent, we had the pork tenderloin and Singapore noodles, both were very good. Maple Pecan pie for dessert, so good! Pastry was a bit tough but flavour was wonderful. Wed absolutely go back.
Wine lovers and flavour connoisseurs, this place will not disappoint! Great selection to please every palette. Their menu is certainly worth exploring. Plan for return visits so you can try new things which will guarantee you many flavourful adventures! Service is always excellent - very attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. Atmosphere is cozy and interesting. It does get very busy (during spring/summer season especially) so, do yourself a favour and book a reservation (sometimes days in advance is best) so you don t miss out on the opportunity to dine here when you re craving great wine, tasty food and an all-round great experience! The double leg duck confit is my absolute fave!!! Please Explorers, NEVER take this off your menu! That would be devastating! Lovers of rich, decadent desserts must try the chocolate peanut butter pie - to die for!! When we re too full to finish our meal with dessert, we order a slice of this to go.
Service was amazing
Update: Had dinner again this past week and had a much better experience! I am willing to chalk up the two former meals to bad luck or an off night? Had the cabbage rolls and they were delicious. Everyone with me had ribs and they were all happy. Added a star back. Will definitely add back to my regular rotation. Glad to see some more vegetarian options! To answer Jennifer s question - two meals come to mind that were disappointing - unfortunately they happened in a row. The first was a valentines dinner, but to be honest I can t remember what we had, but it wasn t part of the regular menu. I remember an overly salty oyster to start and being underwhelmed by the dinner. The second was a mushroom vindaloo. I don t think it s on the menu any longer. The mushrooms sounded like a good idea but just didn t work with the vindaloo. I guess that s the good and sometimes bad to changing the menu - sometimes you love it and sometimes you don t! Prior Review: I used to love Explorers Cafe - it was THE place I chose for any special occasion or dinner night out. However, in the last year or two, the food quality has really not kept up to the old standard. The last few times I have eaten there, the food has frankly been disappointing. Many of my friends have expressed the same view. Its really too bad, as the food use to be, in my opinion, excellent. I think they are going to have to really up their game again if they hope to compete with all the new restaurants that have opened up recently. I would be happy if they did - I miss the old Explorers food!
Great service and food. A hidden gem in Midland.
Best place to work, to eat, most definitely to enjoy fabulous wine!
Great food. Awesome atmosphere. And perfect service. We love this place and cant wait to try the entire menu. See you again soon.
Food was amazing six of us went there and we enjoyed thoroughly from the wine to the food to the deserts was incredible!
Best spot in Midland - never disappoints. Top notch service, creative food selection, great atmosphere! Great for date nights!
Great food
Great food. Great service!
Hot food, beautiful apps-- especially sweet potato dip. Decor and atmosphere delightful. Our server was great--especially considering shed only been here for 2 weeks. First time but definitely not the last!
worth trying it
Looking forward to a great 60th Birthday dinner tonight. Wouldn t have picked anywhere else to celebrate!
Excellent food and atmosphere
Cant wait to go back and try the complete menu. So tasty!
Exceptional and unique food, always great along with super wine list and personalized service
This restaurant and staff were superb. The food was out of this world. An outstanding experience.
Fantastic service, friendly people and the food is amazing
This has been one of the best meals Ive had in a long time. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, impressive wine cellar, an all around great experience. A hidden gem!!
I can always expect an experience at The Explorers Cafe. Meals that are more entertainment for the pallet than mere sustenance. Service that is nearly doting, and owners that take the time to introduce themselves to you.
After reading all the reviews, we went to The Explorers Cafe with anticipation. It was full on an Tuesday night and we were offered a table outside which we didnt mind. We didnt have to wait long and the service was good. The wine list was extensive and tops at $300. But for all that, the food was a bit disappointing. We had the duck legs and pork lion plus salads. Its nothing special, nothing that I cant whip up in my own kitchen, and Im no chef. For that price, I expected the food to be better.
Absolutely fantastic cafe , the ambience is unique, you immediately feel safe and welcome. The staff is super friendly and accommodating and the food is amazing! We stopped there when we were little hungry and were extremely excited. If we go on holiday here again we will definitely come back! If I could I would give Explorers Cafe 10 stars :)
Great place, they sat us although they were pretty booked up already. The food was good. The service is leisurely, allowing you to take your time and enjoy a relaxing environment. Edited to clarify.
Good food,service & atmosphere!
What a great restaurant!! My husband and I dined at The Explorer last night and we were not disappointed!! Our server was very pleasant and made some suggestions on some dishes gives us ample of time to make up our mind as we wanted a bit of everything on the menu We settled for the Brie as an app and it was delicious perfectly baked. As main my husband took 2 leg duck which was prepared perfectly. I had the Blue Velvet which was also delicious. By the time we finished our main it was near closing and being almost the last patron in the dinning room we didnt feel comfortable to order dessert but our server assured us that we didnt have to rush... Crème Brulé was worth it!! Beautiful restaurant beautiful story and great food!
Great food. Owner is great story teller. Well with the visit to Midland.
Great menu and service
Thank you for the special dessert for Alasdairs birthday October 29th. Food was excellent. Wonderful evening.
Interesting evening tapas & tastings. Yummy tastings of both food and wine.
good food
The owners are such wonderful people. Terrific food, amazing wine selection and the wait staff are fantastic! Such a local gem!
Worth trying
OK
Explorers stands out in Midland both for the quality of its food but also because it defies classification. As its name implies, the selection of dishes is world inspired with no particularly strong influence. Youll find fantastic steak, Pacific salmon, delicious stuffed tenderloin. But youll also discover Indian curries, Asian noodle bowls, Louisiana gumbo, Canard confit, and some pasta selections. I have never had a bad meal. The wine selection is extensive with knowledgeable staff to pair your meal. My only reasons for reducing a star is the difficulty getting in, you almost have to have a reservation. The space is also quite noisy when its at capacity, I was actually going hoarse speaking over the noise on my last visit. For the variety and quality of food, those are minor annoyances.
Friendly service and great food. Always interesting menu items that cover different tastes. Parking can be a little tight but there is plenty of street parking out front as well for you guys driving a cruise ship on wheels.
Amazing food!
Great menu and food is excellent. Wine list is by far the best in the area. Great service. Always inspires me to cook again after.
Fast and super friendly service. I asked our server to pick my main course and it was sooo delicious. Steak that was perfectly cooked and the flavour was amazing. My husbands noodle dish was incredible as well. I kept stealing his food because it was too good not to. Funny thing was, he kept asking to have some of mine too - which usually never happens (he has a gift for choosing the better dish) but this time I think both of our meals were equally as delicious. Im excited to go back and try more!
We had a blast at this place, food was very tasty and well made, they offered us samples to taste the food before ordering which was very helpful. The staff are extremely friendly & make great conversations with guests. They have vegan main course options, I just wish they would add a vegan dessert option as well, it s something the manager said they are working on.
A hidden gem in Midland! Service was super attendant friendly; they seemed super happy to be working and serving the food. Appetizer arrived shortly after our drinks and the entree were so delicious we contemplated getting a second order to take home for the next day! I can t wait to visit again!
Very nice small restaurant, the food available isnt your conventional dishes but once get over the initial shock and try one out youll find their each amazing creations
You can never order wrong here! Everything is fresh, full of flavour, and local purchased. Love!
Was here for an event, and all I can say was amazing! The presentation on travel was informative, beautiful and well lets just say I want to book as soon as I can to go to Antarctica. The seafood salad was light, but delicious and the steaks were the best damn steaks I have ever had. I was simply impressed with everything. I cannot wait to come back with friends and family. Pricing was comparable to that of the Keg (and I like the Keg) but the food was a hundred times better. I cant wait to return.
AWESOME SERVICE GREAT STEAK.
Wow, what a fun place Eclectic menu, lovingly made with nearby ingredients. Wish I could give it 6 stars. :) Showed up without a reservation on a Saturday night, and they were nice enough to give us a seat at the bar, despite being full up. Service was fabulous -- server knew the menu well, and was able to make bang-on wine recommendations to pair with what we ordered. Honestly, one of my best dining experiences in recent memory.
Amazing food. Ive never had a bad meal here. Service great. If you want a casual fine dining with great food this is the place to go.
A highly recommended spot...delivering competent food in a small touristy town.
Excellent atmosphere, eclectic menu, High quality food, pristine preparation...need I say more?
First time in Midland, staying in town for a couple of nights. Came across this tasty restaurant just off King St. Staff were very friendly, food was good quality and well made! Will have to come back when patio is open! (was rainy the night we visited)
Service was very attentive. I had the 100 mile meal. My whitefish was a tiny bit dry and the mushroom sauce needed some acid to balance out the heaviness of the cream (it was better with a touch of lemon). Citrus mousse was excellent. Service was almost too fast though. I was hoping for a relaxing meal but everything came very quickly, including the cheque.
Delicious
Great atmosphere. Food is tasty and made in-house, usually something you havent seen before but will love on the menu. Fantastic wine list with very good prices!
Ok place. Food was over cooked and not that flavourful. Service was slightly slow.
Best food in town!
Crestivity isnt limited to the kitchen in this restaurant where art and decor amuse the eyes as much as the delights on the plate. My spouse had squid ink pasta with seafood and I had a chicken curry. Well prepared and tasty but I would have liked a little salt and the chicken was a just over cooked. The Chai tea creme brûlé was delicious. Ill be back.
A real adventure! The decor is very interesting, based on the owners own travels. Run by fantastic, down to earth people who put their heart and soul into the restaurant, and making sure every customer has a great dinner! A great place for all ages, and healthy eating!
Love it
Great food, excellent service and enjoyable atmosphere.
NEVER AGAIN. Like the most recent reviews noted, the food is completely disappointing and for what it is, its very expensive. The seafood chowder was plain tasteless, the pork pot stickers were dry and the curry uninspired and served with green beans, red peppers and zucchini...they just didnt match the dish. The only good thing was that chicken was tender. Big let down, however the servers were very nice and offered us great service. The one star is for the servers.
Great food and atmosphere
my husband and I had just recently got married and after our wedding we had our first date at the Explorers Cafe. We are visiting from Calgary and we thought wed try something different than a regular steak or grillhouse. For appetizers we had the chao tom. I myself am Vietnamese and was very interested to try their take on this variation of Vietnamese cuisine. I was very disappointed as it tasted nothing like how any Vietnamese restaurant would make it. I really suggest either taking it off the menu or having someone else that actually knows how to make it, make it. Aside from that, the rest of our meal was phenomenal! I order the duck confit and my husband got the stuffed lean pork. We throughly our entrees! We would rate dessert one of the five because the creme brulee was way over cooked through its baking stage and the carrot cake tasted more like a ginger cinnamon cake then a carrot cake normally taste. We came to this location and ask for a quiet place just for us two to converse. It was not too busy when we came so we were able to sit really anywhere. They really need to fix the patio entrance doors! That door kept slamming and disturbing our peace.
Great dishes and nice variety of dishes in menu to suit most tastes. Excellent friendly service too. The only minor complaint I would have is that the location is not easy to see from King Street and parking for restaurant is actually from another street.
Friendly and attentive service with excellent food in a relaxed atmosphere.
What a gem this restaurant is! Located somewhat hidden away from King St in Midland, its definitely worth a visit. The innovative food and presentation was wonderful. Many wine choices from very reasonable to very high end. I had the Singapore noodles with shrimp, just fantastic. I will be back and will share this place with everyone I know. The creme Brule was very good, btw.
Best meal we had on our trip through Quebec and Ontario. Great atmosphere and nice hosts. Top! The menu is truly a journey of discovery!
Service was great. Loved the ambiance and food choices. We had the stuffed pork and the duck and enjoyed it. We were pleasantly surprised about the good wine choices. Dessert was nice too. All in all we would recommend it and go back next time we are in Midland.
Wow! Great food!
Amazing service, amazing food! Will be back
Wonderful ambiance, great menu
Amazing food and service every single time I ve been here (which is many!) An incredible hidden gem in Midland.
Love the menu!
Excellent as always
Really good people, from the owners to the wait staff. And the food is sooooo good. Highly recommended.
The beef Carpaccio was excellent and so was the duck confit. Liked the ambiance and decor, and overall a good experience. The Singapore noodle bowl however was not very good at all, too acidic and way too much coriander.
An amazing experience, exceptional food, service a d atmosphere.
Pleasently surprised with the food here. The beef carpaccio and baked brie appetizers were a solid choice. The stuff me t beer prok was the top choice at our table and we were all very happy with the tenderly cooked pork and delicious potatoes. For dessert we had creme brule (rich and creamy, but light and delicate. Great sugar crust) the peanut butter chocolate pie was basically a large reces piece that did not have my partner complaining at all. Great time, great company, great wine. We would come back here for sure
Always great food with friendly service. Our favorite place to dine at in Midland and area.
Best food in town!
Fun and cozy - Place is a little bit tight on space and prices are a little high for the portions. Regardless, options are definitely interesting!
Had an Amazing experience at the Explorers café!!!! What a great place for family lunch/dinner! From the ambiance and authentic decor, great attention to details and interesting style combination that adds so much to the entire experience while there, to an immaculate service of the lovely stuff! And the food is definitely the main reason to be back: -the wine list is a dream and very fairly priced -appetizers - we ordered house salad and were very pleasantly surprised that such a simple salad can be dressed and served in such a unique and tasty way -kids menu- same as everywhere but again - the food is cooked to perfection served as a perfect serving size -main dish - we all ordered fish and Trout was by far the BEST one Ive tried in Canada! Thank you for the experience! We will definitely recommend your restaurant to all our friends and be back !!!

Always good food
This out of the way restaurant in Midland is a gem. I dont get to Midland often and had never heard of it, but we found it when we wandered into an alley off the main street. Unfortunately, the evening we found it was a busy day for them and we couldnt get a reservation. We went back a few days later and had a memorable dining experience. There were 5 of us and we all had different items from the menu and I wont describe them all. However after a lot of sharing, we all agreed that my sisters Canard Confit was the best dish. I thought my pork tenderloin came in second, but there were no disappointments and all plates left the table clean. The bill came in under $200 for the five of us. For a shared large appetizer, 5 mains, drinks and a shared dessert (we were all full at that point), I thought the price was quite reasonable.
You have to do a little exploring to find this place but the adventure is well worth it. Fun decor, excellent service and a great meal will be your reward!
Best restaurant in Midland
Never before have I wanted every single item on a restaurant menu - making choosing one entrée very challenging! The sunflower seed crusted Rainbow Trout was one of the best dishes Ive ever had, the curry/sweet potato hummus dip was a superb starter & the atmosphere was so so cool. I cannot wait to return for my next culinary exploration here!
Wonderful atmosphere and the menu is incredible. You definitely want to put this on your list of places to visit if in the area.
Great food, great wine, great service. Prices reasonable care considering the amazing quality of food. Make a reservation! Often busy, as they never disappoint.
I seriously cannot say enough about this wonderful gem of a restaurant. A true treasure! My family and I have been here on multiple occasions and experience friendly service and delicious food off of a creative and varied menu. The atmosphere is everything youd expect from a charming small town restaurant, we always feel right at home here. Look forward to coming again soon.
